BREAKING: Hurricane Barry Makes Landfall, Immediately Weakens To Tropical Storm
Hurricane Barry has officially made landfall in Louisiana, though it’s already lost strength and become a tropical storm again.
The storm had reached sustained winds of 75 mph while in the Gulf, and was named a hurricane just hours prior to making landfall. However, shortly after reaching land, the storm began losing power and is currently showing sustained winds of 70 mph.
The National Hurricane Center has said that the slow movement of Barry will result in a lot of rain over Louisiana’s coast and further inland. Some parts of the state are looking at 20 or more inches of rain.
It will reach Lafayette, Louisiana, this evening and continue north, essentially heading up I-49, becoming a tropical depression along the way.
