There’s a particular tiny herd animal about which, if two of the cute little critters aren’t not getting along upon first meeting, standing them in just a tiny bit of harmless water — the conventional wisdom goes — will cause them unite. When faced with adversity, the foes will bond in order to form a stronger defense.

The same can happen, it may be assumed, with Democrats.

Recently, we’ve seen striking infighting across the aisle — Mama Bird Nancy stuck it to Baby Bird AOC, and a bunch of feathers flew.

During the melee, as RedState’s Bonchie put it, The Donald “[stripped] naked and [ran] onto the battlefield.”

Rather than let them continue to destroy themselves, Trump interrupted with his own pecking, turning their attention — and the audience’s — toward him.

A number of Republicans gave him an A for…well, just pick your A word for “not good.”

But could it have been smarter than perceived?

Some think so — perhaps he was making a genius move to make the Dems define themselves by the most extreme among them:

Interesting idea.

Consider Rush Limbaugh’s Monday statements on the matter:

“I think Trump sees this rift developing between Pelosi and the Democrat leadership and these new communists on the left led by Cortez, and I think he wants them back together again. I think Trump wants the Democrat Party to become known as the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Green New Deal socialism party. I think he wants to hang that label around all of them, and for that to happen they have to be unified.”

So the President galvanizes toward the goofy a party intent upon taking him out in 2020. And at a time, no less, when a poll indicates that swing voters are down on the socialist squad of new left-wing representatives.

It’s an eyebrow-raiser.

Is it accurate?

Let us know what you think in the Comments section. Trump over the last week: fumbler of the football or touchdown-running titan?

“The Squad” Just Handed Trump 2020

Westlake Legal Group tlaib-omar-aoc-pressley-620x317 “The Squad” Just Handed Trump 2020 The Squad republicans rashida tlaib Politics Ilhan Omar Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 2020

In this combination image from left; Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., July 10, 2019, Washington, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., March 12, 2019, in Washington, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY., July 12, 2019, in Washington, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., July 10, 2019, in Washington. In tweets Sunday, President Donald Trump portrays the lawmakers as foreign-born troublemakers who should go back to their home countries. In fact, the lawmakers, except one, were born in the U.S. (AP Photo)

It was already looking bad for Democrats as they inched ever closer to 2020, but if there was any doubt that the Democrats are not the party that America wants to lead it into the next decade, then the mainstream media revered “#TheSquad” just closed the door tight.

It’s important to remember that despite the ranting, wailing, and gnashing of teeth from the hard-left and its mainstream press, America is till pretty pro-America. They don’t, for the most part, like social justice. It’s one of the reasons Trump was elected. Yet, despite his victory, the left is fully convinced that it needed to lean harder left. As they do, Trump only becomes more popular, and oddly, the left leans more on people like the girls from “The Squad.”

This is why it’s a safe bet that Trump will away with the 2020 election with ease.

It’s important to first take into account that this “squad” consists of highly unpopular congresswomen. According to an Axios poll, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar both have high recognition with voters but take away a dismal 22 and 9 percent approval respectively. AOC attempted to write this off as an illusion created by President Donald Trump, but unless Trump manipulated the poll somehow, AOC’s claim holds no water.

It’s more of an AOC delusion than a Trump illusion, but with that out of the way, let’s take a look at some recent behavior from this “squad.”

The recent firebombing of an ICE facility was carried out by a member of Antifa and his “manifesto” was filthy with language used specifically by AOC. Despite the fact that this happened, Ocasio-Cortez would not denounce the attack.

Let’s be clear. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would not denounce a terrorist attack against American officers from a man who has openly and radically violent, and encouraged others to be violent. According to AOC, this means she endorses this terrorism, seeing as how she said that the GOP is racist for not denouncing Trump’s “racist tweet” about her and her “squad.”

It may even be a worse case with Omar, who is warmer toward Al Qaeda than she is America, as one woman pointed out in a thread on Twitter by GOP spokeswoman Elizabeth Harrington.

The same thing can be said of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who seems to get comfortable feelings from the suffering and death of Jewish people.

These women even refuse to denounce dictators.

These women seem to be good with our enemies, and consistently denounce America and its allies. In fact, Omar retweeted an article on Monday that blanket labeled Trump supporters as racist. At a time when radical leftists are looking for reasons to become violent with “they’re racist” being on the list, this kind of communication from an elected official is irresponsible.

Between the pipe dream level legislation like the Green New Deal, to infantile attacks on a daily basis, to the fact that these women celebrate whenever they prevent people from getting jobs, they are not exactly a voter’s best friend. Failing to condemn terrorist attacks or terrorist organizations, including those that caused the death of 3,000 people on 9/11, isn’t going to win you too many American fans.

As Erick Erickson put it, while Trump isn’t perfect, he’s far and away more of a trustworthy and proven individual than “The Squad”:

Many, many of the concerns I had about President Trump in 2016 have been addressed by him and his administration through sound public policy. No candidate and no administration is perfect and I will continue to speak up when I disagree. But President Trump offers a vision for the United States with a strong economic record to back it up. The Democrats offer attempted mass assassinations of Republicans, fire bombings of immigration facilities, Mexican flags replacing American flags, the harvesting and selling of chidren’s body parts, the continued destruction of our healthcare system, the championing of lawlessness, and open persecution of people of faith by government bureaucrats.

While Trump is presenting an America that is positive and strong, we have a Democrat party that is willing to literally stay silent while terrorism and economic stupidity is carried out using battle cries developed from Democratic official’s rhetoric.

Because of these congresswomen, the Democrat party now absolutely reeks of irresponsibility and radicalism. The mainstream media might be trying to play it off by talking about how horrible Trump is all the time, but they are being vastly overshadowed by the insanity of a Democrat party trying too hard to be like it’s darling “squad.” Between the 2020 candidates proclaiming America is a white supremacist nation and promises of dictatorial action on America’s rights, the 2020 Democratic candidates have adopted the same aforementioned asininity.

Trump isn’t going anywhere.

Even New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd gets it. Although she would rather stick needles in her eyes than come to President Trump’s defense, Dowd’s defense of Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her spat with AOC, would apply equally to the President in his feud with AOC.

In a weekend op-ed, Dowd wrote that AOC should consider the possibility that people who disagree with her do not disagree with her color.

Trump is disagreeing with AOC and her “Squad” because he sees the Green New Deal as a power grab, he wants to protect the U.S. from becoming a socialist state, and he knows that open borders would mean the end of America as we know it. He is also sure that American taxpayers, many of whom have difficulty paying for their own health insurance, don’t want to pay for the healthcare of illegal immigrants, nor for their food and shelter.

Additionally, he disagrees with their anti-American and anti-Semitic rhetoric. And he has a hard time understanding why none of them can quite bring themselves to denounce Antifa’s violent attacks.

And yes, Trump probably did notice the striking similarity between the words written by Antifa’s Willem van Spronsen (before he “martyred” himself last Saturday) in his final manifesto, in which he describes ICE detention centers as concentration camps, and AOC’s own rhetoric. Van Spronsen was the armed thug who was shot and killed by police on Saturday as he threw incendiary devices at an ICE Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington. He is now “resting in power.”

There are major differences between ICE detention centers and concentration camps. First, migrants are not forced to cross the border illegally. President Trump has told them not to even try. But still they come – in droves. Once they set foot on American soil, the U.S. government is forced to take care of them.

I only wish AOC had accepted Holocaust survivor Edward Mosberg’s invitation for a tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau. It is one thing to read about it in a book, but quite another to visit. Upon arrival, you immediately “feel” the evil and the suffering which took place there. It is stark. It is quiet. The grounds are nearly devoid of wildlife. As you pass through it’s buildings, you are surrounded by images of people who are literally starving to death. First you pass by the black Wall of Death, where political prisoners were shot by the Gestapo. Then to “Block 26,” where inmates’ possessions were taken upon their arrival so that any valuables could be sorted out for the Gestapo. Next are the massive gas chambers and “crematoria complete with brick ovens and metal carts used to slide the corpses into the flames. Fifteen to twenty minutes from train to chamber.”

Democrats claim that the conditions at ICE detention centers are further evidence that Trump is a racist. The laws and policies were the same under the Obama administration as they are under Trump. Nothing has changed except for the number of migrants seeking asylum. Was Obama a racist too?

Grabien editor Tom Elliott presents a video from 2014 in which Obama explains that crime and poverty do not justify an asylum claim.

The young Congresswoman knows not of what she speaks.

President Trump is not alone in his criticism of AOC and her cronies. Turns out the majority of Americans disapprove of their extreme agenda. In a recently leaked internal Democratic poll, she received a 22% favorability rating. Ilhan Omar received 9%. Does that mean the majority of Americans are racist too?

The color of the Squad’s skin is not a factor. Americans reject their actions and their agendas, not their race. And they likely know that. However, if they can make enough people believe the President is a racist, they are able to play the victim.

Trump is not a racist. He’s a patriot.

And AOC is a fool.

Black Law Professor Sees Red When White Student Walks Into Classroom Wearing MAGA Hat

Westlake Legal Group A76A17E1-21DE-40FD-98CF-1A14688344AD Black Law Professor Sees Red When White Student Walks Into Classroom Wearing MAGA Hat Social Justice racism Paul Caron Jonathan Turley Jeffrey Omari Howard Wasserman Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Campaigns Allow Media Exception Academia 2020

President Trump in MAGA Hat

Visiting Assistant Professor Jeffrey Omari, an African-American, saw red – in his peripheral vision. A student walked into his classroom wearing a MAGA hat.

Given the large number of college students who lean to the left politically, I’m always pleased to see a young person wearing a MAGA hat. But for many, the mere sight of a MAGA hat triggers a visceral reaction, as it does for Professor Omari.

For Omari,

MAGA is an undeniable symbol of white supremacy and hatred toward certain nonwhite groups.

For its supporters, MAGA indexes an effort to return to a time in American history when this country was “great” for some—particularly, propertied white men—but brutally exclusionary for others, most notably women and people of color.

Thus, in that moment, I was unsure whether the student was directing a hateful message toward me or if he merely lacked decorum and was oblivious to how his hat might be interpreted by his black law professor. I presumed it was the former. As the student sat there directly in front of me, his shiny red MAGA hat was like a siren spewing derogatory racial obscenities at me for the duration of the one hour and fifteen-minute class.

“His shiny red MAGA hat was like a siren spewing derogatory racial obscenities at me.” Hmmm.

I find that to be extreme, but I suppose one’s feelings are one’s feelings.

He noted that he had taken an informal survey of his colleagues and none had ever had a student wear “such propaganda” in their classrooms. He wrote, “This furthered my contention that this student was indeed trying to intimidate and/or racially antagonize me.”

Omari carries on for quite a while detailing his inner turmoil over the student in the red hat. Is this just a really severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome?

Omari considers what course to take. IANAL, but the way I see it, his only option is to accept that, once in a while, he will be forced to sit in a room with an individual wearing a MAGA hat. What the hell else can he do?

In the end, he wrote an op-ed in the ABA (American Bar Association Journal) and took no further action.

The full op-ed can be viewed here.

At any rate, Paul Caron, the Dean of Pepperdine University School of Law, decided to ask several law professors to weigh in on the situation. Here’s what they had to say.

Howard Wasserman (Florida International)

He called Omari’s reaction “absurd.” As long as school’s rules allow “students to wear a baseball hat with any political message in the classroom, in what way did this student fail to meet his “professional expectations”? Other than by wearing a hat with a message the prof does not like.”

Jonathan Turley (George Washington)

“[Professor Omari’s op-ed] demonstrates the increasingly shrill environment faced by conservative students. Omari took to the pages of the Journal to recount his almost breathless encounter with a student wearing a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) hat. Most of us are used to students wearing political hats and teeshirts. I am always happy to see students with such clothing because it shows that they are engaged and passionate regardless of their views. For Omari, the incident was chilling since he declares the MAGA hats worn by many conservatives to be per se racist symbols. Omari insisted that anyone wearing the hats are advancing “racial antagonism” since they are an “undeniable symbol of white supremacy.” …

The mere fact that some kid wears a MAGA hat does not mean that he is a racist or that he is trying to racially intimidate an African-American professor. Omari simply concludes that the hat was by definition improper and inciting but that he would receive no support given his position and race. … Omari assumed that the interpretation of the hat (which is not shared by many) was manifestly true. This is part of the trend that we have discussed on campuses where speech is being curtailed as racist or microaggressive based on how it is perceived by others as opposed to how it is intended. In this case, the hat has different meaning to different people. Yet, Omari believes that it should have been barred from the classroom.”

Scott Greenfield (Simple Justice)

“The problem isn’t that Omari is wrong in his “undeniable” belief, but that his belief doesn’t dictate what is allowable by others or what others mean by the monumentally banal act of wearing a hat reflecting the political views of millions upon millions of perfectly nice Americans.

As the professor, one could fairly respond to Omari to grow up, suffer the indignities of his feelings and do his job without his self-serving snark and deep hurt at a hat. Or, if one is of the view that the person feeling most victimized gets to set the rules for his oppressors, shift the burden to student to meet Omari’s claim of legal professionalism by removing the trappings of his political sensitivities.

Who is responsible for Omari’s feelings? When did a hat become so powerful that it made grown men cry and write polemics, even if in the dulcet tones of the Academy? Which tribe feels their claim of victimhood entitles them to dictate to the other half a nation what they’re allowed to wear lest they’re insensitive, racist or both?”

Marty Lederman (Georgetown)

“[W]as it reasonable for Omari to see the MAGA hat as such a symbol, given its common usage in the past few years? And, more to the point, was his student being at least insensitive, or “oblivious,” to the fact that his African-American teacher would likely view it as such?

Even if one were to answer both of these questions “yes,” it would not mean, of course, that the teacher or school should prohibit the cap–and Omari doesn’t suggest otherwise. But wouldn’t it mean that the student acted inappropriately here, in a manner that warrants at least some criticism, even if the student himself did not intend to convey such a message?”

Scott Fruehwald (Legal Skills Prof Blog)

“[T]he ABA article was not appropriate. Students and probably professors at Gonzaga can certainly identify the student. A professor has publicly shamed a student when his actions were probably innocent. A professional teacher does not do this.”

But wasn’t that most likely the professor’s goal? I mean, if we’re going to apply his metric of accepting the most cynical view possible, doesn’t it make sense to assume that the professor’s goal was effectively to dox the student? What possible ramification is the professor going to face other than a little light chiding on an internet board?”

This Week’s Democrat Polling in Archer GIFs

New NBC/Wall Street Journal polling is out on the current field of Democratic Candidates and, seeing as it’s a Monday, we will need GIFs to deal with this.

So, here’s how things are going with the entire field:

Just like last week (which I explained in Taylor Swift lyrics), Joe Biden comes out on top. In this poll, he’s got 26% of the vote. I guess they don’t care that he’s a creeper who just can’t keep his hands to himself.

Next, we have Elizabeth Warren with 19%. Remember how she pretended to be native American to get ahead in life and then pretended it was no biggie? She kind of reminds me of Mallory.

Kamala Harris is coming in at 13% and will promise pretty much anything to raise those numbers. She’s kind of like Cheryl Tunt.

In fourth place is Bernie Sanders, also polling at 13%. He is still as economically literate as ever, leading the electorate to beg of him, as Archer begs Lana:

(preferably one on economics)

7% of poll respondents chose “not sure”as their candidate of choice. These votes are up for grabs, so the candidates are ready to sweeten the pot.

Next, also at 7%, is Pete Buttigieg“Mayor Pete,” as he’s known spends most of his time talking about the fact that he’s gay and has a husband, which nobody really cares about, but he really really wants us to.

He wants to be able to complain like Dr. Krieger.

AOC vs. Trump – Who Ya Got?! The Socialist Tries to Sock It to the Pres After His ‘Go Back to Your Country’ Harangue

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., makes an objection to a Republican argument as the House Oversight and Reform Committee considers whether to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt for failing to turn over subpoenaed documents related to the Trump administration’s decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, June 12, 2019. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

Hasn’t the world of politics been entertaining lately? Have you kept your popcorn handy? I also recommend wrapping some Doritos in lunch meat — it’s a nice DIY combo.

As you’re enjoying your snacks, I’ve got a bit more entertainment to toss your way.

That’s right — there’s more fighting to be viewed from your cozy seat.

The contenders? In one corner: She wants to control all products and means of production, which makes her the ruler and you the ruled…I give you 29-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And facing her today is the Big Man himself, billionaire rap icon (here and here) Donald J. Trump.

On Sunday, the D man tweeted the following:

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

Yep — Trump was feelin’ reeeal tweety.

And, as Yahoo News was quick to point out:

The nativist rhetoric, “go back to your country,” is often used in racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic attacks, including a recent hate crime in New York City last week in which a Hispanic woman was attacked and told, “You’re here taking jobs from Americans.”

Alexandria — who seems downright psyched about the notion of words endlessly firing from her mouth — snapped back.

Here she goes. Give ‘er room, folks:

“Mr. President, the country I ‘come from,’ & the country we all swear to, is the United States. But given how you’ve destroyed our border with inhumane camps, all at a benefit to you & the corps who profit off them, you are absolutely right about the corruption laid at your feet. You are angry because you don’t believe in an America where I represent New York 14, where the good people of Minnesota elected @IlhanMN, where @RashidaTlaib fights for Michigan families, where @AyannaPressley champions little girls in Boston.”

And that isn’t all he’s angry about, apparently. He’s also mad that America believes everyone has a right to healthcare:

“You are angry because you can’t conceive of an America that includes us. You rely on a frightened America for your plunder. You won’t accept a nation that sees healthcare as a right or education as a #1 priority, especially where we’re the ones fighting for it. Yet here we are.”

AOC can never be accused of acting as if anyone knows more than she. Experience, schmexperience. Age is arbitrary (here), and cow farts are the devil (here).

As for Trump’s “plunder,” what is his violent and dishonest acquisition of property as president?

Not sure, but she ain’t skeered:

“But you know what’s the rub of it all, Mr. President? On top of not accepting an America that elected us, you cannot accept that we don’t fear you, either. You can’t accept that we will call your bluff & offer a positive vision for this country. And that’s what makes you seethe.”

Her “positive vision” is for her as Congresswoman — a position not encumbered by term limits — to take away all choice of options and price comparison, via a little thing the Nazis liked to called “socialism.”

Will she succeed? Only time will tell. As for now, the Twitterfights continue. And the cacophony of derision coming from Washington is sure to increase as we all march toward 2020 insanity. Stay tuned, keep Orville Redenbacher close, and prepare for a whole lot more of the Greatest Show on Earth.

Or the goofiest.

-ALEX

Oh no! On Sunday night, 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke announced that both he and his wife, Amy, are descendants of slave owners.

“Something that we’ve been talking about in town hall meetings – the legacy of slavery in the United States – now has a much more personal connection. I was recently given documents showing that both Amy and I are descended from people who owned slaves.”

Upon receiving this news, he penned an email to his supporters entitled “Rose and Eliza,” the names of the slaves his great, great, great paternal grandfather owned in 1850. He wrote:

I benefit from a system that my ancestors built to favor themselves at the expense of others. That only increases the urgency I feel to help change this country.

That those enslaved Americans owned by my ancestors were denied their freedom, denied the ability to amass wealth, denied full civil rights in America after slavery also had long term repercussions for them and their descendants.

I benefit from a system that my ancestors built to favor themselves at the expense of others,” he added in the post, a defense of reparations.

Here we go. Suddenly Beto has discovered he has a personal connection to a profound and timely issue which he can use to inject new life into his floundering campaign.

No one can be held responsible for choices their ancestors made two centuries ago. And Beto knows that. But with his current support stuck at 2.5%, you better believe he will take this latest news and run with it. He’ll do his best to revive that old “Beto-mania.” We may even see a tear or two.

One reader clearly agrees. He wrote, “He’s going to tear a pandering ligament here soon.”

On Sunday night, NRSC Communication Director Jesse Hunt tweeted, “How bad was Amy McGrath’s rollout this week? She announced her run on MSNBC this past Monday and she now appears to have pulled out of her Sunday night MSNBC hit.”

Last week was a rollercoaster for Kentucky Democrat and former combat pilot Amy McGrath. On Tuesday, she launched her bid to unseat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and managed to raise $2.5 million in the first 24 hours. She announced her candidacy with a hard-hitting video in which she portrayed McConnell as an old, callous, out of touch politician.

She tells voters, “Everything that’s wrong in Washington had to start someplace. It started with this man who was elected a lifetime ago, and who has, bit by bit, year by year, turned Washington into something we all despise.”

But things quickly went downhill for the former Marine Lt. Colonel after she flip-flopped on whether or not she would have voted to confirm now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

First, she said she would have voted to confirm Kavanaugh.

Hours later, she changed her mind. She tweeted, “I was asked earlier today about Judge Brett Kavanaugh and I answered based upon his qualifications to be on the Supreme Court. But upon further reflection and further understanding of his record, I would have voted no.”

We knew things were bad when a CNN panel called the flip-flop a disaster.  Here is an exchange between The New York Times’ Carl Hulse and John King:

CARL HULSE: Yes. If you’re running against Mitch McConnell, judges is the thing you’re going to want to be talking about. What a disaster. This is just a disaster. I’m not sure what was worse, being for Kavanaugh or then having to flip so quickly and say you weren’t.

KING: You’re not going to raise any national Democratic money if you’re for Kavanaugh and that’s her only hope.

HULSE: And she had raised a bunch of money already. I mean, Mitch McConnell and his people are ruthless and she was going to have a really hard time anyway with Trump on the ballot in Kentucky and this kind of mistake, they were just rubbing their hands together over there at Team McConnell.

Here’s what “Team Mitch” had to say last night followed by a response which Twitchy described as “savage.”

CNN Host Grills Pete Buttigieg Over His Abject Failure Among the Black Community

On Friday, a CNN talker noted the failings of a 2020 Democratic hopeful.

Strange day.

“Noted the failings,” that is, where it concerns his popularity among black voters.

Currently, Pete Buttigieg stinks.

The Axe Files’s David Axelrod made the observations during a discussion with news anchor John Berman.

John remarked that the small-town Indiana mayor “absolutely” has no chance to win the presidency without the support of black Americans.”

And he most certainly does not have it.

From Axelrod:

“Absolutely cannot. Absolutely cannot. African-Americans are about a quarter of the Democratic primary electorate. Once you clear those early states of Iowa and New Hampshire, they come into play. And in South Carolina, 60 percent of the voters will be African-American. So, as a practical matter, he has to solve this problem or he’s going to go back to South Bend. And that’s a problem.”

Right. It’s a problem, in part, because he isn’t taking care of business at home: Pete’s vacated his mayoral office to run for president, and some people haven’t appreciated it.

While he was out trying to change jobs in June, a white police officer shot a black man and chaos ensued.

Pete rushed back for damage control, but his town hall turned into YellFest 2019.

Even the gals at The View were unimpressed.

At the time, Joy Behar offered something which, to me, seemed perfectly sensible:

“[I] have this feeling that these guys who are running who are mayors and governors should keep doing their jobs — until they can fix — it’s almost like…when you’re the mayor or a governor, it’s almost like being the father or the mother of the family. And to leave South Bend now and run for president seems like an unfinished job.”

Former Obama Senior Advisor David appears to agree:

“South Bend itself is a bit of a problem for him because even though he has this very far-reaching Douglass Plan to try and fight systemic racism in this country, there are troubling issues back home about police staffing, which African-Americans dropped by half under his watch, and on city contracting, where African-American — where minority businesses have done rather poorly in sharing in the business of the city, even though 40 percent of the city is black and Hispanic. These are questions that I asked him.”

How’s he gonna lead the country if he can’t satisfactorily run South Bend?

Pete’s smaller problems are his bigger problems:

“And, you know, he had a series of issues. He fired a popular black police chief. It was because of an investigation. But, nonetheless, it was a controversial decision. He tore down 1,000 abandoned homes, many of them in poor minority communities, and that was meant to remove blight. But there was quite a bit of resistance because now there are these vacant lots in the community. So, you know, there are a lot of issues that he has to confront there.”

It’s not so often you see CNN downgrade a Democrat.

I wrote a while back that the lead-up to 2020 is gonna be interesting on the other side of the aisle. And so far, it hasn’t disappointed. CNN’s saying a Democratic can’t take care of business with the black citizenry, and AOC and Pelosi are in the ring among other infighting (here and here).

Keep out your popcorn; I think it’s gonna get weirder.

Not a Great Moment For Kamala Harris As She Explains Her Position on Illegal Border Crossings (VIDEO)

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) just wasn’t her usual calm, cool and collected self during Friday’s appearance on “The View.”

“I’m going to try to make this as quick and dirty as possible. You’re for decriminalizing border crossings, you’re one of the people that raised your hand at the debate. Do you agree with AOC that we should get rid of DHS altogether?,” co-host Megan McCain asked.

Harris responded:

That is not correct. I am not in favor of decriminalizing um, or not having um consequences for, we have to keep, let me just be very clear. We have to have a secure border but I am in favor of saying we are not going to treat people who are undocumented and cross the border as criminals, that is correct.

What we cannot do is have any more policy like we have under this current president that is about inhumane conduct, that is about putting babies in cages, that is about separating children from their parents and we have got to have policy that is about passing comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway toward citizenship.

I would not make it a crime punishable by jail. It should be a civil enforcement issue but not a criminal enforcement issue.

Even though she managed to contradict herself before clarifying her answer, the words themselves were not the problem.  The trouble was in Harris’ delivery of the answer. Gone was the typical self-assured demeanor that we expect from her, similar to the manner in which she questioned then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh at the senate confirmation hearings last fall.

The exchange with McCain can be seen at 0:50 in the video below.

Harris was one of eight senators who raised their hands at the last Democratic debate indicating her support for decriminalizing illegal border crossers.

Obama’s former Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson. opposes this position. He told the Washington Post, “That is tantamount to declaring publicly that we have open  borders. That is unworkable, unwise and does not have the support of a majority of American people or the Congress, and if we had such a policy, instead of 100,000 apprehensions a month, it will be multiples of that.”

Let’s hope Kamala has a few moments like this in the next debate.
