Anti-Trumper Chris Wallace Presses Mike Pence: ‘Why Didn’t the President Tell Nancy Pelosi’ About Raid?’

Fox News’ host Chris Wallace, who no longer bothers to hide his hatred for President Trump, interviewed Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday about the raid that killed ISIS leader Abu Bekr al-Baghdadi.

“The president was asked specifically whether he had informed the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi about this raid last night, and he said no, and then he added ‘I wanted to make sure that no American forces were lost.’ The implication seeming to be that he was worried that Pelosi or members of Congress would leak this. Does the president not trust the Speaker of the House with sensitive national security information?” asked Wallace.

Pence refused to go there. He told Wallace, “I don’t think that was the implication at all. I think from the time that we got actionable intelligence, the President’s total focus here was on a successful mission and the safety of American troops.”

Wallace asked the question again, “Why didn’t he tell Nancy Pelosi?”

Pence answered, “We maintain the tightest possible security here and when we got the confirmation on Saturday that al-Baghdadi was on site and our troops began to move into the region, as the President said, our aircraft were moving over some very potentially hostile areas. We wanted them to be able to get in and get out, it’s a dangerous mission on the ground. They went with the resolve and the determination (inaudible) to bring al-Baghdadi to justice but they also went with our prayers and I just couldn’t be more proud. When they were wheels up out of country, no American casualties and al-Baghdadi is dead.”

Wallace pressed further, “We all applaud that. I do want to ask you, it is my job as a newsman sir, respectfully, why didn’t the President notify the Speaker of the House?”

Again, Pence dodged the question saying, “I just want to emphasize the president’s focus here throughout particularly the last several days was on the mission to bring a man who was the most wanted man in the world, a man who had brought unspeakable violence through the ISIS caliphate, who was exporting violence throughout the world to justice and that combined with ensuring the safety of our forces coming in, executing the mission and moving out was the president’s directive throughout this effort and I know it animated every decision that he made along the way.”

Actually, Mike, the President could not have been more clear. When a reporter asked President Trump if he “had notified the congressional leaders about this? Pelosi, Schiff, Mitch McConnell?,” he replied:

We notified some. Others are being notified now as I speak. We were going to notify them last night but we decided not to do that because Washington leaks like I’ve never seen before. There’s no country in the world that leaks like we do. And Washington is a leaking machine. And I told my people we will not notify them until our great people are out, not just in, but out. I don’t want to have them greeted with firepower like you wouldn’t believe. So, we were able to get in. It was top secret…

A leak could have cost the deaths of all of them.

At another point, Trump answered, “No, I didn’t. I didn’t do that. I wanted to make sure this kept secret. I don’t want to have men lost, and women. I don’t want to have people lost.”

Although the Vice President is far too diplomatic to say it, no Chris, the President does not trust the Speaker of the House with sensitive national security information? Or any information. For three years, Pelosi and other House Democratic leaders have been gunning for Trump. After winning back the House majority during the midterms, removing the President from office has been their number one priority.

Back in December, Pelosi began rewriting the relevant House rules which would ease the way to impeachment for the 116th Congress. Even before returning to Washington in January, committee Chairmen were mapping out their strategies and planning their investigations to find a crime with which to destroy Trump.

The President is not imagining they are out to get them.

Although Democrats had no choice but to try to act as if they were pleased that the most wanted terrorist had been killed, or risk the appearance of being un-American.

But they weren’t pleased at all because it gave Donald Trump another win, a very major one, to add to his growing list of achievements.

Yesterday, I addressed this question in a post. I truly believe that Pelosi would have preferred seeing the special forces troops lose their lives in a spectacular debacle than to see him take a victory lap. Yes, although Pence refused to admit it, Trump’s distrust of the Democrats was precisely the reason they were not told ahead of time.

Regarding Trump’s decision not to notify Democratic leaders in advance, Pelosi said, “The House must be briefed on this raid, which the Russians, but not top congressional leadership were notified of in advance, and on the administration’s overall strategy in the region. Our military and allies deserve strong, smart and strategic leadership from Washington.”

First, Russia had to be notified because the men had to fly over Russian controlled areas and likely have been shot down otherwise. Secondly, it wasn’t too long ago, Pelosi, pointed a finger at the President, asked him why do all roads lead to Putin, then stormed out of the meeting.

Frankly, Pelosi and her minions pose a far greater threat to President Trump than Putin.

Additionally, she and Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff, last weekend, “led a high-level congressional delegation to Afghanistan and did not publicly disclose the trip until the group had returned.”

And the whole thing is especially rich given the secrecy with which the Democrats have been conducting their impeachment hearings.

After notifying the American people that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was dead, he was asked by a reporter if he has “notified the congressional leaders about this? Pelosi, Schiff, Mitch McConnell?”

President Trump replied:

We notified some. Others are being notified now as I speak. We were going to notify them last night but we decided not to do that because Washington leaks like I’ve never seen before. There’s no country in the world that leaks like we do. And Washington is a leaking machine. And I told my people we will not notify them until our great people are out, not just in, but out. I don’t want to have them greeted with firepower like you wouldn’t believe. So, we were able to get in. It was top secret…

A leak could have cost the deaths of all of them.

President Trump was right not to notify them ahead of time. They can’t be trusted. This is a group of people who have a vested interest in preventing Donald Trump from getting a win, especially a foreign policy win.

Democrats are notorious leakers. They impose strict secrecy rules around their impeachment inquiry meetings, then they strategically leak just the right sound bites, usually taken out of context.

And, coming on the heels of the sharp rebuke Trump has faced over his decision to withdraw troops from Northern Syria, this moment is all the sweeter. Would you trust Adam Schiff or Nancy Pelosi to put country before politics? I wouldn’t.

Given the choice between the deaths of 50 anonymous U.S. soldiers or watching Trump take a victory lap, I believe they would choose the former. And then Pelosi would appear on cable and ask Americans to pray for our fallen soldiers and their families.

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz delivered his completed FISA Abuse report to Attorney General William Barr over six weeks ago. Democratic leaders know exactly what’s in it. Yet, there hasn’t been a single leak which I find to be extraordinary. If there were some good news in there for Democrats and/or some bad news for Republicans, there would have been a leak.

That’s how the Democrats operate. They just can’t help themselves.

Here’s to our troops!

Just when you think you have Donald Trump figured out and can put him in a box, he zigs zags and makes you stop and wonder what in the hell is going on. This time it is with people that allegedly he hates and wants them all to die.

Except that he also wants to there shorten prison sentences or eliminate them altogether. That has made Kamal Harris very mad being she put a LOT of people away in her time as a prosecutor in California.

From Fox News

President Trump took a rare swipe at 2020 Democratic hopeful Kamala Harris on Saturday, criticizing the California senator for boycotting a South Carolina criminal justice forum in protest of the group giving an award to him.

“Badly failing presidential candidate @KamalaHarris will not go to a very wonderful largely African American event today because yesterday I received a major award, at the same event, for being able to produce & sign into law major Criminal Justice Reform legislation, which will greatly help the African American community (and all other communities), and which was unable to get done in past administrations despite a tremendous desire for it,” Trump tweeted Saturday morning.

The president’s tweets came after he received the Bipartisan Justice Award from the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center for his efforts to pass the First Step Act, which grants early release to thousands of nonviolent offenders who are currently serving time in federal prisons.

Trump has by and large not mentioned Kamala and the other dwarfs running on the Democratic side. He has had a lot of fun picking on Joe and Bernie and the fake Indian and left it at that. However, Kamala who once was considered the shining star of this primary season has never fully recovered from the shot that Tulsi Gabbard landed on her in the Detroit debate about her lock up record.

I will admit that when Trump met with Kim Kardashian about commuting the sentence of a lady that had clearly served way more time than she should have, I thought it was a mere publicity stunt of two reality T.V. stars meeting. That has proven to not be the case.

When Van Jones showed up at CPAC and praised Trump and conservatives for this I knew something positive was happening. Van Jones Praises Conservatives on Criminal Justice Reform: ‘You Are Stealing My Issue’

Kamala probably was thinking that her law & order cred was going to get her major props and so far it has been a dud. Her at first instinct of boycotting this event and trying to look holier than thou does not look like it will work and might not even last a full news cycle. Stunts like this are meant to raise your profile and so far it looks like it has sent her into deeper muck. Now that she has changed her mind she looks even more indecisive.

There are only 99 days left until the Iowa caucuses. Kamala better get in front as many people as possible or her campaign is going to be dead on arrival before next February.

Little Noticed Whistleblower Story from August 2018 Involving ONA Director, Col. James Baker, Takes on Greater Significance in the Wake of Flynn Filing

The amended manual, published on July 22, 2016, also drops wording that equated journalism with spying. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak, File)

While reviewing reader comments on my recent post about General Michael Flynn’s stunning October 24th court filing, I learned of a largely overlooked story reported in August 2018 by the Daily Caller’s Kerry Picket. It gained little traction at the time, but it’s become far more significant in light of the Flynn filing.

The Flynn filing alleges that Col. James Baker, Director of the Office of Net Assessment at the Pentagon (ONA), leaked copies of the transcripts from Flynn’s December 2016 telephone calls to then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak to the press. Baker had regularly scheduled lunches with The Washington Post’s David Ignatius whom published an article about the calls in January 2017.

Picket told the story of Pentagon whistleblower Adam Lovinger, then an ONA analyst and a Trump-supporter, whose security clearance had been revoked  after “he questioned why politically connected contractors like FBI-informant Stefan Halper, who spied on the Trump campaign for the bureau, received well-paid contracts to conduct “inherently governmental functions.”

One contractor hired by ONA , the Long-Term Strategy Group (LTSG), is owned by Chelsea Clinton’s “best friend” Jackie Newmyer-Deal. “Over the past decade, LTSG secured more than $11.2 million in contracts from ONA.”

Picket reports:

Lovinger warned his superiors at ONA about the legal issues specifically pertaining to LTSG’s Newmyer-Deal being designated as a “U.S. Representative” in bilateral foreign relation activities with the Japanese.

In an incident with another ONA contractor (not LTSG), Lovinger disclosed to Baker that the contractor copied a World Bank report onto the contractor’s own letterhead and passed it off as original work.

In August of 2016, Bill Gertz of The Washington Free Beacon wrote a series of pieces related to the ONA’s over-reliance on government contractors and the problems surfacing as a result.

The stories covered how much contractors were paid, the questionable value of their product, critical threats that went ignored, and favorable treatment of Clinton’s contractor friend Newmyer-Deal.

Lovinger’s (Statement of Reason) SOR, which had been prepared by his attorney, Sean Bigley, claimed that Baker “inappropriately incentivized investigators to target him.” The document alleged that Baker “targeted him through several tactics, one of which was recommending two military officers for prestigious military medals as motivation to look into Lovinger as the target of a classified leak probe.”

One investigator, ONA Chief of Staff Cmdr. Anthony Russell (USCG), received a “recommendation for Award of the Defense Superior Service Medal…Russell was the architect of two national security inquiries targeting Lovinger.”

On November 23, 2016, The Washington Free Beacon published an article which criticized the ONA. Lovinger’s SOR stated, “The piece ended up revealing sensitive information provided by the Japanese government which had been included in an LTSG report prepared at the behest of ONA.”

According to Picket:

Russell served as the action officer and primary American representative for the United States/Japan Bilateral Task Force, yet he bore no responsibility to the mishandling of the Japanese intelligence.” In the letter Baker wrote to recommend Russell for the “Defense Superior Service Award,” he wrote that Russell had a “positive impact” on the Japanese/American alliance. Two days later Baker recommended Russell for a command position for having the “highest standards of ethics.”

Lovinger’s security clearance was suspended and job detail canceled nearly a month earlier.

In his recommendation of Russell, Baker wrote, “Commander Russell was entrusted with handling several unique, very delicate personnel matters where he provided thoughtful, sound advice and acted with discretion and candor.” He continues, “His exquisite analysis of facts and balancing of considerations resulted in ideal courses of actions that upheld the highest standards of integrity and ethics.”

Prior to filing his complaint, Lovinger had been in the running for a senior directorship at the National Security Counsel. Russell’s attempts to derail this opportunity caught the eye of Washington Headquarters Service General Counsel James Vietti.

Vietti emailed Russell on January 17, 2017, warning him that his investigation  “could look like you’re trying to interfere with or hinder his advancement in some way—and that the e-mail would be sent after he complained to (I think I’m recalling this correctly) that Mr. Baker violated the Hatch Act.” He wrote that he must “establish that this was—at least at the beginning—an inquiry into specific allegations of misconduct (rather than a ‘go forth and find a justification to fire him’ sort of investigation).” He also advised Russell not to “get ahead of NSC’s possible concerns” of Lovinger and proposed that he “pare back” language in an proposed email that Vietti had reviewed. Russell had written that  he “would urge NSC not to bring on an employee under administrative inquiry right now.”

The other officer whom Baker had allegedly designated to investigate Lovinger was Marine Lt. Col. Brian Bruggeman. Baker issued the request on January 12, 2017 and issued a February 10th deadline, which Bruggeman did not meet.

According to the SOR:

Five days before the report was due, Baker recommended Bruggeman for the “Defense Superior Service Award.”

An e-mail exchange between Feb. 27 and 28 between Bruggeman and Lovinger related to setting up a meeting with one another included Bruggeman telling Lovinger that the meeting was his “last opportunity to cooperate.”

The meeting occurred on March 6, 2017. On March 7, Lovinger’s attorney Thomas Spencer, sent a letter to Bruggeman memorializing the meeting had happened and that Bruggeman had promised to have a written recollection of his questions and answers, since Bruggeman previously forbade any audio recording of the meeting.

Although Lovinger met with Bruggeman and responded to his questions March 6, he was nevertheless accused of “refusing to cooperate” with Bruggeman, “which was tantamount to insubordination,” for failing to appear at previously scheduled interviews on February 21 and 23.

According to Lovinger’s SOR response to Bruggeman’s allegation, however, the delay occurred because Bruggeman “was ignorant of basic due process norms. While the DoD Inspector General requires DoD investigators to ‘possess professional proficiency for the tasks required,’ Bruggeman expressed shock, panic, embarrassment, and then anger when he learned that Lovinger had the right to legal counsel. This caused delay.”

Several days before Picket published this article, on August 20, 2018, watchdog group Judicial Watch filed a FOIA lawsuit against the Department of Defense for documents relating to this case.

A  Judicial Watch document states that Lovinger was already a senior director at the White House National Security Counsel by that time, so at least Baker and Russell’s interference was unsuccessful.

The Washington Times reported on August 14, 2019 that Lovinger had been cleared of the bogus charges against him.

This story illustrates the role a whistleblower’s political persuasion plays in how their complaint will be received. It also provides a glimpse into the character of the man who is alleged to have leaked classified information to his pal, Washington Post report David Ignatius. It tells us that Baker is not above trying to destroy a man’s career for political gain.

Unfortunately, there are many James Bakers.

A scene from the North Carolina state fair. Screen grab via CNN.

CNN sent correspondent Martin Savidge to my beloved state of North Carolina this week to ask voters their thoughts on the impeachment inquiry drama currently playing out in Washington, D.C.

As House Intel Chair Adam Schiff’s show trial inquiry has been described by Republicans like Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY) as nothing more than a “clown show” process, it would seem fitting that the choice of venue for the interviews was … the state fair.

Before we get started on what the voters said, let’s take a quick look at the beauty of it all – from the ferris wheel at sunset to the bacon stand where, of course, the bacon options are plentiful:

Most of the voters Savidge talked to were either against impeaching Trump or ambivalent about it. One of the voters talked about how he did not like the secrecy of it all. Here’s a partial transcript:

SAVIDGE: Here, you can satisfy your wildest deep-fried dreams. We’ve come to measure voter appetite for impeachment.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think it’s a waste of the taxpayer’s money.

SAVIDGE: Do you think the president did anything wrong?

JENNIFER WALL, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: Absolutely, absolutely.
[…]
JIM UZZLE, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: I don’t think he’s broken the law and I wish they would do right for America versus wasting their money, our money on a lost cause.

SAVIDGE: Most of the Trump supporters we talked to were unmoved by days of explosive testimony and revelations against the president.

Do you think it changes the minds of Trump supporters?

JEFF MASON, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: I do not. The ones of us who support him will continue to support him. If you look at the economy, there’s no way to design that weir doing pretty amazing.
[…]
RICH BLEWITT, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: If it was out in the open and everything was discussed and he did something wrong, impeach the guy. I just don’t like the secrecy. It just sounds wrong the way they’re going about it, that’s all.

It was the last voter, a Trump supporter, who stole the segment. When Savidge asked him if he followed the impeachment news closely, here’s how the voter answered:

SAVIDGE: Joe Miller did vote for Trump. Do you follow this?

JOE MILLER, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: Not much. I try not to, actually.

SAVIDGE: How do you avoid it? It seems to be everywhere.

MILLER: I watch a lot of ESPN.

Heh. I set the video to start at his comments. Click below to watch:

Now my critics will complain that I’m saying voters should stay in the dark on what’s going on in the world by avoiding watching the news. Not so. I just know that as someone who covers this stuff every day, sometimes it’s nice to be able to avoid all the drama and spin, even if just for a few hours. Especially when we’re talking about watching the type of “news” programming that comes from national media outlets like CNN.

And it’s not even so much by watching ESPN as an alternative, either, because even they get political sometimes. Maybe watch some ID channel. Or HGTV, or some YouTube organizing videos, or …

Republican nominee John James gave Michigan’s senior Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow a run for her money in 2018 in a closely-watched Senate race, but fell short.

Screen grab via the NYT.

But James, a West Point grad and U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq, is not someone who gives up easily. This time around he wants to take on Michigan’s junior Sen. Gary Peters, and two new polls show James’ hard work is paying off:

That “oh, oh” you hear from the Democratic camp of U.S. Senator Gary Peters is that, in one week, two polls are out showing his race against Republican challenger John James is a statistical dead heat and for an incumbent to be in that spot one year before the election is hardly good news.

In the Vanguard, Dennis, Pubic Sector Consultant poll last May it was Mr. Peters 42% and a generic Republican 36%. It is now 39.5% for Mr. Peters and 39.3% for Mr. James.

The race today is a toss-up.

And then there was this poll from earlier this month:

The poll, conducted by the Michigan-based Marketing Resource Group, a firm with ties to Republicans, shows Peters leading businessman and Iraq War veteran John James (R) by a slim 43 percent to 40 percent margin.
[…]
James may have a better chance against Peters, who is seeking his second term in office. Peters is less well-known among Michiganders than his senior colleague; while 75 percent of state voters polled said they were aware of Peters, only 35 percent knew enough about him to say whether they felt positively, 20 percent, or negatively, 15 percent
[…]
The poll shows a tighter race than a Target Insyght survey last month, which showed Peters leading by a 53 percent to 37 percent margin.

His third quarter fundraising haul was pretty impressive, too:

We still have a little over a year between now and election time so obviously a lot of things can change, but the fact that James has a strong showing and is doing well in the fundraising department at this stage in the game is a good sign that the inroads he made with voters during the last campaign cycle are paying off.

His only primary opponent as of right now is a man named Bob Carr, and he dropped out of the 2018 Senate race before the primary. He’s also a former Democrat. The Michigan primary is August 4, 2020.

Even with all that encouraging news, James or whoever the Republican nominee ends up being will still end up having a major uphill battle to clear the final hurdle:

Beyond that, beating the professorial Peters will require doing something no one has done in Michigan in 67 years: defeating a sitting Democratic U.S. senator. The last was Blair Moody in 1952, who had been appointed to serve out a term the previous year and lost an election bid to Charles Potter.

Also, though President Trump won Michigan in 2016, his approval numbers there right now are not good according to the Michigan state chart from Morning Consult (make sure to scroll down and click the Michigan tab). This could carry over in down ballot races if that sentiment doesn’t change between now and November 2020.

In any event, put this one on your list of races to watch next year. The Michigan Senate race in 2018 was closer than people thought it would be and that’s just one of many reasons why Republicans feel like James has a real shot at an upset the second time around.

Stay tuned.

“[A]bout the substance of this, Congressman — because I haven’t heard you say anything since Bill Taylor testified — yes or no, is it okay for any politician to trade military aid for political favors?”

But Matt wasn’t there for the hearing, so he was all clammed up:

“Look, I’m not going to get into the specifics of the Taylor deposition because I wasn’t present for it. The lead-in to your question was, ‘I want to talk about Bill Taylor’s deposition.’”

Hallie pressed, “Do you think it’s appropriate?”

Matt made it clear — he doesn’t believe President Trump tried to strong-arm Ukraine into investigating Joe Biden by withholding military aid:

“I do not believe it would be appropriate for any politician to link military aid to assistance in a future election. No. And I also don’t think that’s what the President did.”

The congressman wanted to point out — the one thing we do know is Ukraine meddled in 2016 (and if so, it wasn’t  in Trump’s favor):

“It was a Ukrainian court that ruled that the Ukraine impermissibly interfered in the (2016) U.S. election, and that is a sufficient basis for the President to ask for cooperation with the Attorney General on that matter.”

But Katie didn’t wanna talk about that, ’cause it isn’t proven. Trump aggressing Biden, however…

“[W]hat you are saying is significant — not about the piece about Ukraine in 2016, because that is not a proven theory –“

Matt interrupted:

“Well, wait — it was a court order in Ukraine. But you just keep blowing through these things like they’re facts, but they’re not.”

Then he made a T-shirt:

“[S]top mischaracterizing stuff.”

He told Hallie he was having to work extra hard to have the conversation:

“I have to fact-check you in real time.”

The MSNBC host is a fast talker, and the whole exchange was riddled with words, words, words, cranked out as from a gatlin gun with hair.

But Matt told her it’s all foolishness:

“You’re playing the game here, Hallie. You’re playing the game where they selectively leak stuff that is not subject to cross examination, rigorous review, check against documents and timelines. And by the way, when they had to do this in open, in the Russian investigation, with Mueller, with Lewindowski, Democrats looked terrible. And now they’re trying to do things in secret so we can have interviews like this, so that you can cherry-pick elements of leaked testimony, and then ask me about them when I wasn’t in there, you didn’t see the testimony, and more importantly, we’re unable to see how those statements hold up against cross examination.”

The representative laid out what he believes to be the Dems’ MO. Basically, they’re playing Prison Rules, and it’s all a lunge for redemption after the humiliating defeat of goofy Russia Mania:

“[W]hen the Speaker of the House won’t adopt rules, then it creates an environment where the Democrats just sort of make it up as they go along — kick some committees out, let some committees in, and it’s all because they wanna reshuffle the legislative deck, because they’re humiliated that they lost the Russia investigation unequivocally with the American people. Adam Schiff lied to the American people when he said he had more than circumstantial evidence that President Trump was engaged in a criminal conspiracy with Russia…”

Matt said something similar to Tucker Carlson Thursday — there are no rules (here).

But I like Matt’s, and I propose its incorporation into Washington and the media. And the mirror — so what if I ate an entire dozen of Krispy Kreme?

Stop mischaracterizing stuff.

On Thursday evening, the New York Times reported that U.S. Attorney John Durham’s administrative review of the origins of the Trump/Russia investigation has shifted into a criminal inquiry. This major development grants Durham the power to subpoena witnesses and documents and to impanel a grand jury. Speculation has increased in the wake of reports that Attorney General William Barr and Durham had twice traveled to Rome and London to meet with intelligence officials recently and the news that Durham was interested in questioning both former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan.

My colleague, Bonchie, posted on this story last night (here), writing that the mainstream media is portraying this as a political move. The following excerpt from the Times will give you an idea of how they plan to spin it. (Emphasis mine.)

The opening of a criminal investigation is likely to raise alarms that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies.

…] The move also creates an unusual situation in which the Justice Department is conducting a criminal investigation into itself.

Mr. Barr’s reliance on Mr. Durham, a widely respected and veteran prosecutor who has investigated C.I.A. torture and broken up Mafia rings, could help insulate the attorney general from accusations that he is doing the president’s bidding and putting politics above justice.

[…] Federal investigators need only a “reasonable indication” that a crime has been committed to open an investigation, a much lower standard than the probable cause required to obtain search warrants. However, “there must be an objective, factual basis for initiating the investigation; a mere hunch is insufficient,” according to Justice Department guidelines.

Rather than acknowledging that Durham is zeroing in on the truth about the plot to destroy Donald Trump’s candidacy and following his unexpected victory, his presidency, they are characterizing it as Trump’s revenge. Still, there’s no doubt the major players involved in this travesty are starting to feel the squeeze.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, who has been peddling lies to her viewers for three years, characterized this latest move as a “frame job” and a “false flag operation” of the Trump campaign. She said, “This is the news that honestly, we’ve been sort of expecting for some time or thinking that if things got really bad, it might come to this…That is the conspiracy theory that the attorney general of the United States appears to have been going around the world trying to prove.”

It’s just crazy, isn’t it Rachel? Yes, now that Trump is on the verge of being impeached, his good buddy, Bill Barr, is going to bat for him. She will continue spewing this nonsense until Durham presents solid evidence of misconduct. At that point, her ratings, which fell by 25% following the release of the Mueller report, will crater.

Also last night, DOJ’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced that his long-anticipated report on alleged FISA abuse will be released in the next week to ten days with limited redactions. In a letter to lawmakers yesterday, which can be viewed here, he wrote that the classification process is “nearing an end” and explained that there will be one version of the final document. “Given the constructive progress that has been made during the classification review process, I do not anticipate a need to prepare and issue separate classified and public versions of the report.”

We know that Durham has questioned a number of CIA officials recently leading to speculation that the CIA outsourced some of their operations to their foreign counterparts to circumvent U.S. laws governing spying on U.S. citizens. Central to their investigation is the Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud. It was said that, on their most recent trip to Rome (at the end of September), Barr and Durham listened to a recording of a deposition provided by Mifsud in the summer of 2018 in which he explained his role in the saga. Additionally, Durham obtained two cell phones which Mifsud had used in 2016. Mifsud’s Swiss attorney, Stephan Roh, has been cooperating with Durham’s team for several months now.

In fact, the legal team of Trump’s former National Security Advisor, General Michael Flynn, believes there may be exculpatory evidence on those phones and they’re working to obtain them from Durham.

Former junior advisor for the Trump campaign George Papadopoulos, who was targeted by several “informants” in 2016, appeared on Fox News’ Martha MacCallum’s show recently and said:

Basically how I would summarize this, the grand statesman under Rome, Cicero, you know what he said?  What I think happened in 2016 and all of the events surrounding the 2016 campaign and the spying that took place on me and Michael Flynn and others was tantamount to treason. What happened was there was an intelligence agency with an ax to grind with candidate Trump and obviously President Trump, where we see the Russia hoax now evolving into Ukraine-gate. This is not going to stop. I predicted that Joseph Mifsud, that individual who now both of his Blackberries are now in the hands of the DOJ was a Western Intelligence agent. I wrote about it in my book exactly how I came in contact with this person who introduced me to him and what he wanted. Something I did not know and actually something that surprised me very much is that Joseph Mifsud was also spying on Michael Flynn just two months before he started his encounters with me… I joined the Donald Trump campaign in March of 2016. Before even the Washington Post or the American media knew that I was joining this campaign I had Joseph Mifsud and other intelligence agencies knowing all about me, what I was doing and what Donald Trump’s campaign was all about. So the notion that this investigation, Crossfire Hurricane, started spontaneously on July 31st 2016 is absurd. It’s completely absurd.

This is an extremely complex story which involves an enormous number of people. Durham’s team has been working on it formally since May. However, there were indications that he was actually on it several weeks or even months prior. If I recall correctly, Durham appeared at one or two Congressional hearings to listen to the testimony of former FBI officials.

In addition to the involvement of the British and Italian intelligence communities, there is reason to believe that Australian intelligence officials participated in the conspiracy. We need only look to Australian diplomat Alexander Downer’s May 2016 meeting with George Papadopoulos at a London bar where the Trump campaign’s newest advisor told him the Russians had dirt on Hillary Clinton. The FBI claims it was this event which triggered their counterintelligence investigation of Donald Trump.

Following Clapper’s lengthy trip to New Zealand and Australia in the late spring, Papadopoulos hinted he may have traveled there to cover his tracks. He posted the following tweet.

It looks like Trump is about to fight back. Fasten your seatbelts everybody!

Home State Blues: Kamala Harris Gets More Devastating News About Her Campaign in California

No matter where 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris goes, she faces an uphill battle.

Nationally, she’s polling in a distant 5th place. In Iowa, where she vowed to “f**king move” in order to win over Democrats in the crucial caucus state, her campaign is cratering.

She’s not doing any better in South Carolina, which has a large percentage of black Democratic voters, nor in New Hampshire.

But it’s her home state of California that perhaps more than any other state is showing her the writing on the wall.

Over a month ago an Emerson University survey showed her in 5th place in California behind Andrew Yang.

Unfortunately for Harris, her numbers in there among Democratic primary voters have not gotten any better over time:

Less than five months before Californians vote in the 2020 presidential primary, a new Change Research poll for KQED shows U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris losing ground to the front-runners, Sens. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts and Vermont’s Bernie Sanders.

The poll, taken after last week’s Democratic candidate debate, finds Warren is the top choice of 28% of primary voters, followed by Sanders at 24% and former Vice President Joe Biden at 19%.

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is fourth with 9% followed by Harris at 8%. The October survey puts Harris 20 percentage points behind Sen. Warren, compared with a 14 percentage point gap in our September poll.

The poll also shows Harris trailing badly among female voters and Hispanic voters:

By gender, Warren is the top choice of female voters with 31% support, followed by Sanders with 23% and Biden at 21%. Buttigieg and Harris are the choice of 8% and 7% of women respectively.
[…]
Sen. Sanders is the favorite of Latino voters with 28% support, followed by Warren and Biden (22% each), Harris (7%) and Buttigieg (6%). The only Latino candidate, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro, is the choice of just 1% of Latino voters in California.

Harris is in decent shape with black Democrats according to the poll (16%), but she still lags behind Biden (30%) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (20%).

As I’ve said before, I believe she’s sticking around at this point as an audition of sorts for vice presidential consideration, but considering she’s in bad shape across all key demographics, I’m not sure how much good she’d do in terms of the female/black vote for Biden or Sanders should they become the nominee. And the possibility of Warren picking another woman as her running mate is very low.

Of course, general elections are much different than primaries so there’s still a chance she could end up as the eventual nominee’s running mate. But as far as her chances go for the nomination itself, it’s all over but the crying at this point, especially when you consider the fact that no recent candidate for president has gone on to be their party’s nominee without winning their home state.

Joe Biden’s Latest Ad Is Hilarious and the Responses Are Even Better

Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden has demonstrated his propensity for gaffes and being behind the times.

As my colleague Streiff noted on Wednesday, this “behind the times” problem left them open to a great troll from the Trump team when the Biden folks neglected to register the web address for their Latino coalition outreach.

Now, Biden’s latest ad just adds to that “behind the times” perception.

When you look at it, your immediate thought may be: who told him this was a good idea?

We open to what looks like one of those old commercials where an actor who hasn’t worked in years in a dated outfit is selling insurance to the elderly. Cue Uncle Joe.

Gack. What is that?

Now we have no idea what he’s talking about, Vladimir Putin coming after him. But then, neither does he, it’s just a money pitch and word is he’s desperate. This surely shows it.

And let’s stop with this “Russia interfered in our elections” terminology. Russia was behind Facebook pages for and against Trump. And the FBI alleges they were behind the DNC server hack and John Podesta’s email phishing. But because people in media and people like Biden use that terminology, a majority of Democrats reportedly believe that votes were changed or machines were hacked by Russians. If you want to say they tried to influence people’s opinions, that would be more accurate. Should we still be condemning that and trying to prevent it? Yes. But no one except the voters “decided who the president was going to be.” And to suggest that Putin did is a dishonest fiction, pushing this “illegitimate president” theme again.

Let’s also look back to the Obama administration where Biden was the Vice-President, that administration that he has embraced as a big part of his record. The administration that was known for its “flexibility” when it came to Russia. That administration that, knowing everything that Russia was, presented them with a “reset” button (with the wrong word). That administration that allowed Russia to walk into Eastern Europe and steal Crimea from Ukraine, doing nothing in response. That administration who drew red line after red line with Russia-backed Syria and then did nothing as they continued to drop chemical weapons on their people. Indeed there may be no administration in recent history who has bent over more or been so accommodating for Putin than the Obama administration.

Can we ever forget these golden video moments?

Let’s look at the Trump administration, by contrast, since that’s the comparison Joe raised. Let’s disabuse people of this fiction that the present administration has been favorable to Russia.

The Trump administration came in and put more sanctions on Russia on top of the ones already in place, going further than Obama ever had. Here’s a great list of the dozens of Russians people and businesses subject to sanctions and actions. Trump also booted Russian diplomats out. When Syria continued to use chemical weapons, he bombed them. He gave Ukraine lethal weapons to be able to defend themselves, something the Obama administration refused to do. The administration also said they were giving Ukraine $10 million to help build their naval defense against Russia. After the Russians attacked a US base in Syria in Feb. 2018, the Trump administration didn’t set a red line, they dropped bombs on the heads of the Russians, killing hundreds. And let’s not even get into the many ways that Trump, by building up the American economy and the energy industry, stomps all over the Russian agenda. Where Obama stalled the Keystone XL pipeline (there he is being flexible again!), Trump signed executive orders fast-tracking it, for example.

We’d tell Joe to get better ad advice. But then, we’d miss out on laughing at silly things like this.
