A little Saturday discomfort for you.

James Clapper, who is a paid shill over at CNN now, was brought on to his own network by Anderson Cooper to comment on an investigation he’s the target off. If you think that probably doesn’t match up with journalistic ethics, you are probably right. But this is the same network that brought on Andrew McCabe the same day to talk about this topic without even disclosing he’s suing the DOJ and is also a target. So ethics aren’t much of a thing over there.

Cooper starts to toss softballs at Clapper and he becomes visibly shaken, saying he doesn’t understand why he’s under investigation. For context, Clapper had only found out about the criminal investigation 20 minutes prior to this hit.

The eyes are darting, he’s stumbling over his words. “Uh, uh, uh” can be heard multiple times. This is a guy who’s not comfortable in his own skin right now. I can imagine I wouldn’t feel too chipper commenting on national TV about the DOJ investigating me as well.

Let me point a few things out.

One, the idea that this investigation is politically timed is nonsense. Clapper makes that assertion and Cooper offers zero push back because of course he doesn’t. The reality is that the Durham investigation started long before impeachment fever 2019. And the escalation to a criminal investigation follows the finishing of a years in the making IG report, not the impeachment inquiry. If anything, the timing of the whistle-blower and Schiff’s circus seem far more politically timed than the investigations that predate it.

Two, Clapper knows exactly why he’s under investigation. He has always been suspected of leaking the classified briefing given to Donald Trump on the Steele dossier to CNN. I wrote an entire piece several months ago about Jake Tapper’s denials not adding up on the matter. There are some serious questions and inconsistencies there. There’s also the fact that Clapper probably lied about his knowledge of the investigation. The idea that he didn’t even know it existed prior to Trump taking office doesn’t begin to pass the smell test. We have texts from Peter Stzok and Lisa Page saying that everything was being run from the White House. Clapper was the ODNI in that administration. He knew.

CNN continues to be a joke by employing Clapper as an unbiased analyst, but that’s not surprise to anyone. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying seeing these guys squirm a bit now that the shoe is on the other foot.

CNN host slams Press Sec, Grisham lands a punch of her own

Westlake Legal Group 0ae6bbe4-8382-4a05-9bc0-a5c6a3b3689e CNN host slams Press Sec, Grisham lands a punch of her own White House press secretary The Blog stephanie grisham ratings President Trump Fox and Friends fnc CNN Anderson Cooper

CNN’s Anderson Cooper tore into White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham Friday. He used “The Ridiculist” segment of his weeknight show to trash Grisham and her appearance on FNC’s Fox and Friends Friday morning.

“The Ridiculist” segment of his show is allegedly one for humor but there wasn’t anything funny about this one. Cooper apparently was triggered with Grisham’s opinion of White House press briefings. Grisham has not held one since she took over that job so Cooper ridiculed her as a groundhog popping up to do an interview on FOX. The segment lasted for 4 minutes, 19 seconds and the snark began immediately. He started off with noting Grisham “apparently got a brief furlough from witness protection” and said she was checking in with “her supervisors over at Fox News.” That was as gentle as his commentary got about her. It went downhill from there and he made his attack very personal. It went beyond “poking fun” at her.

To start at the beginning, Stephanie Grisham did an interview on Fox and Friends that covered various topics in the headlines. A big focus was on her defense of acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney’s appearance before the press corps Thursday. Grisham said the reporters went into a “tizzy” and Mulvaney did “a great job”. Then she said what many observers regularly say about the press – the press conferences and press briefings, in particular, are turned into theatre performances. She went on to say it is a way for journalists to grab some attention and end up on newscasts. She admitted she hasn’t held a press briefing since she took over that job but said if President Trump wanted her to do so, she would ”happily do it.”

Speaking with the Fox & Friends hosts Friday morning, Grisham made it clear that if the president wanted her to go out and “take that podium,” referring the podium in front of the press briefing room, she will “happily do it.”

She then suggested that when someone, like acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney actually uses the briefing room podium it is more “theater” than a press conference.

“As evidenced by yesterday with Mick, it was, again, more theater,” Grisham opined. “It is about people wanting to be on TV and making names for themselves.”

Let’s face it – she said what most of us think every time the press gets a chance to question the president or anyone in his administration on camera. CNN’s Jim Acosta is a prime example of what Grisham is addressing. He’s even written a book about his adventures in journalism. Also to keep in mind, FOX beats CNN in primetime ratings every single week, even on coverage of impeachment hearings. CNN, on the other hand, has a different kind of distinction. It is the most polarizing news brand.

Cooper mocked Grisham’s choice of words and suggested she get out and go to the theatre more often. She responded in the best way possible – she essentially said, you know, she would do that but she’s busy being a single working mom doing three jobs in the White House besides raising her kids. So, no, Stephanie Grisham doesn’t get to the theatre often. That’s a luxury that professional men like Anderson Cooper have, due to less strenuous personal obligations.

“Miss Grisham clearly doesn’t get to Broadway enough if she, you know, thinks those press conferences are theater. Maybe on one of the seven days a week she’s not doing her job, she can catch maybe a matinee of ‘Hamilton,’” Cooper said. “Also, hate to break it to her but TV reporters are already on TV.”

Grisham says he “got that part right.”

“I am a single mom who (proudly) holds three roles in the White House, and I am doing the very best I can. But I definitely don’t get to Broadway enough,” she told Business Insider.

Cooper also noted that Grisham had used the defense of “theater” before, and suggested that she needed to workshop her talking points.

Grisham responded Sunday in just the right way. She chose to take the high road and not go personal on Anderson Cooper, as he did against her. She didn’t attack his intelligence or character. She reminded everyone that people working in the White House are human beings, too.

“I think CNN has lost sight of the fact that we are human beings,” Grisham said in response. “Just as Anderson Cooper has a job to do, working for a company he is proud of, so do I.”

“I also imagine he has a personal life, where he has to juggle quite a bit – and the same goes for me,” Grisham added.

The press secretary is right when she says a return to real journalism would be nice.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden – 10/15/19. Screen grab via CNN.

It’s no secret that CNN is in the tank for Democrats. It’s also not breaking news that they have been quick to say in their reporting that there’s supposedly “no evidence” that President Trump is speaking the truth about the Joe Biden/Hunter Biden/Ukraine quid pro quo issue. It’s also a well-known fact that CNN refused to run the Trump campaign’s Ukraine ads, ostensibly because they criticized some of CNN’s on-air “talent.”

Still, watching the debate on Tuesday night and seeing the lengths the struggling cable news network will go through to protect candidates they like was a sight to behold, and is worthy of commentary.

On Trump’s allegations of wrongdoing against both Joe Biden and his son Hunter, here’s how moderator Anderson Cooper lovingly teed up the question he was about to ask (bolded emphasis added):

COOPER: Thank you, Congressman. The impeachment inquiry is centered on President Trump’s attempts to get political dirt from Ukraine on Vice President Biden and his son, Hunter. Mr. Vice President, President Trump has falsely accused your son of doing something wrong while serving on a company board in Ukraine. I want to point out there’s no evidence of wrongdoing by either one of you.

Having said that, on Sunday, you announced that if you’re president, no one in your family or associated with you will be involved in any foreign businesses. My question is, if it’s not okay for a president’s family to be involved in foreign businesses, why was it okay for your son when you were vice president? Vice President Biden?

Did you get that? Anderson has concluded, without evidence, that both Bidens were “falsely accused” by Trump and in the same sentence used the words “there’s no evidence of wrongdoing”, even though if he was “falsely accused” the latter statement would go without saying, wouldn’t it?

After Biden did not answer outside of saying neither he nor his son did anything wrong and then pivoting to impeachment, Cooper again gave asking him the question a try, this time without the “falsely accused/no evidence” qualifiers:

COOPER: … just to follow up. Mr. Vice President, as you said, your son, Hunter, today gave an interview, admitted that he made a mistake and showed poor judgement by serving on that board in Ukraine. Did you make a mistake by letting him? You were the point person on Ukraine at the time. You can answer.

Biden again dodged the question, instead noting he was proud of his son and stating the focus should be on “Trump’s corruption.” The issue did not come up for Biden again.

Watch the exchange below:

The segment was reminiscent of how former CNN anchor Candy Crowley repeatedly stepped in to help out President Obama during an October 2012 debate he had with GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

It’s almost like CNN has an agenda or something.

I wish I could read the minds of some of these 2020 Democrat candidates as they reach new levels of crazy to pander to their base voters. Do these people really believe what they are saying? I have my doubts at times.

Take Joe Biden, a geriatric old man who appears to heave cognitive issues, doing his best to show he’s down with the struggle at the LGBTQXYZ forum last night on CNN. What transpired was just a mash up of the extremely uncomfortable and bizarre.

At one point, Biden pretends he’s going to make out with Anderson Cooper (a gay man).

Then crap just got really weird.

That’s not an exaggeration. He actually said that while also joking about coming out as gay. Apparently he learned to tolerate homosexuality at the same pool he almost threw down at with Corn Pop.

This dude’s mind is going. I’m pretty certain of it at this point. I can only imagine his advisors, already having to watch his campaign burn down the last few weeks, sitting in the back wanting to tear their hair out.

At this point, is there any path for him to win the nomination? I’m not seeing it. Elizabeth Warren has taken the lead nationally and Biden currently looks to lose all three of the first primaries. No one recovers from that. You’d think this guy might want to keep a little bit of his dignity though. Instead, he’s setting it on fire to please a base that’s never going to vote for him anyway. It’s kind of sad.

Kamala Harris: Trump’s Twitter account should be suspended

Westlake Legal Group Kamala-Harris Kamala Harris: Trump’s Twitter account should be suspended whistleblower twitter The Blog kamala harris impeachment CNN Anderson Cooper

The air is thick with authoritarianism these days and it will only get worse as we go further into the impeachment process. Monday night presidential candidate Kamala Harris said that the Twitter account of President Trump should be suspended.

During an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN, the topic of the whistleblower came up. He asked her about any concern over the protection of the person she may have. From there she launched into her opinion that Trump’s Twitter account should be suspended. “When the President of the United States speaks, her words are very powerful and should be used in a way that is not about belittling or harming anyone. And this president has never really fully appreciated that responsibility.” (Notice that Kamala uses the pronoun “her” when referring to the president.)

In other words, a Democrat running for president doesn’t like the words of the current Republican president. This is a woman who was the Attorney General of California and a District Attorney in San Francisco. She should be familiar with the First Amendment.

“The President’s tweets and his behaviors about this are just further evidence of the fact that he uses his power in a way that is designed to beat people down instead of lift people up,” the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate told CNN.

“Frankly, when you look at what he’s been tweeting today directed at the whistleblower, directed at so many people, you know, I, frankly, think that based on this and all we’ve seen him do before, including attacking members of Congress, that he, frankly, should be — his Twitter account should be suspended.”

Senator Harris seems to be saying that if the president has words of criticism for those working to remove him from office, instead of inspirational words, then he must be shut down. Does anyone turn to Twitter for words of inspiration? This is consistent with the authoritarians among us who demand that anyone expressing thoughts or opinions different than their own must be silenced. In social media, it is called deplatforming.

President Trump is known for using Twitter to get his daily messages out to his millions of followers. He doesn’t mince words or sugar-coats his thoughts. His behavior has not changed since he first began using Twitter, years before he ran for president. This is nothing new. A demand that Trump’s Twitter account be suspended or terminated is not an original thought, either. In 2017 an employee of Twitter “accidentially” briefly deactivated Trump’s account. In September 2017, Twitter refused to pacify those who were calling for the termination of his account by declaring his tweets newsworthy.

Harris thinks Trump’s tweets about the whistleblower are harmful and so he must be silenced. Who died and made her the boss of everyone? Just think if she were ever to be elected as president (she won’t be) and put her authoritiarianism tendencies into place. Twitter is a public company, not a governmental agency.

There is an online petition up at Change.org which demands the suspension or cancellation of Trump’s Twitter account.

The impeachment train is going full steam ahead down the track. The House is moving with a swiftness not often seen because of some members thinking, wistfully, this time we’ve got him. The whistleblower’s complaint about the phone call to the Ukrainian president is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Or so they think.

Speaker Pelosi is in authoritarian mode, too. She launched impeachment inquiries involving six committees before ever even calling for a vote in the House. She has completely shut out the voices of the minority in the House. Does no one have a concern about that? It isn’t technically unconstitutional but it is unprecedented. Yet, she is heralded across the country and on television 24/7 as a bold leader. Instead, I would argue that she caved to the far left in her party in hopes of retaining the majority in the House in 2020. Pelosi claims the impeachment inquiries will be limited to focusing on the Ukraine corruption allegations. Good luck with that, Madame Speaker.

Kamala Harris is calling for censorship of an opposing view. She’s calling for the right of free speech of the President of the United States to be shut down. Imagine what she would do if she was in the highest office in the land. Believe them when they tell you who they are.

Team Biden defends fundraiser hosted by fossil fuel executive

Westlake Legal Group JoeBiden Team Biden defends fundraiser hosted by fossil fuel executive Western LNG The Blog liquified natural gas Joe Biden fundraiser CNN Climate Change Andrew Goldman Anderson Cooper 2020 Democrat candidates

You would think that while preparing for a town hall-style event focused solely on climate change, a presidential candidate’s staff might mention that a fundraiser the very next day is being hosted by a fossil fuel industry executive. That is, assuming the candidate prepared for the event.

CNN devoted seven hours to some of the Democrats running for their party’s presidential nomination. It turned out to be one long in-kind donation to the re-election of President Trump. I was able to dip in and out of a couple of the candidate’s interviews and oh, boy. What an experience that turned out to be. The candidates are hell-bent to out-crazy one another when it comes to grandiose ideas about saving the planet. There is no idea too outlandish for them and no limit to taxpayer money they are willing to commit to it.

Joe Biden was first up during the prime time hours – 7:00 P.M. Central Time. His host was Anderson Cooper. The lesser candidates went first in the late afternoon time slots with host Wolf Blitzer. The three candidates with an actual shot at the Democrat nomination – Biden, Sanders, and Warren – were among those in prime time. Biden went first because I assume he had an early bedtime to get to.

Things took an awkward turn when Cooper questioned Biden about a fundraiser scheduled for Thursday co-hosted by Andrew Goldman, a co-founder of Western LNG. LNG is liquified natural gas. Natural gas is brought to us by the fossil fuel industry. Liquefied natural gas is natural gas that has been cooled down to liquid form to make it easy and safe for non-pressurized storage or transport. Western LNG, according to the company’s website is a Houston-based energy company that delivers affordable Canadian natural gas to overseas markets.

Uncle Joe feigned ignorance, or maybe it isn’t an act, and when Anderson Cooper explained Goldman’s tie to the fossil fuel industry, Biden said he’d look into that. He said he’d been assured that Goldman wasn’t an energy sector executive.

The former vice president told the CNN host Anderson Cooper that Mr. Goldman was not listed as an executive in fossil fuel company filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. “That’s what we look at,’’ Mr. Biden said.

Mr. Cooper, who seemed apprised in advance of the issue raised by the audience member, pressed Mr. Biden, saying Mr. Goldman “has a company called Western LNG” that announced it was building an offshore terminal in western Canada to export natural gas.

“Well, I didn’t realize he does that,’’ Mr. Biden replied. “I’m going to look at what you just told me and find out if that’s accurate.’

A senior adviser to Biden’s campaign, Symone D. Sanders, quickly tweeted out that Cooper had it wrong and Goldman isn’t an executive in the company.

That’s an interesting take from the campaign. Looking at the website, under the “About” tab, Andrew Goldman is described as a founder of the company. His background is described as one in finance and investment. Are we to believe that he simply founded a company using his background in investments in the energy sector and then just faded into the background? Maybe but that doesn’t sound logical.

There is this little nugget on that website page, too. He’s no stranger to Biden.

Prior to founding De Cordova Goldman Holdings, Mr. Goldman served as an advisor to Senator Joseph R. Biden III until his inauguration as Vice President of the United States in early 2009.

It all just sounds fishy. It sounds like Team Biden got caught trying to dance around the perimeters of the agreement all the Democrat candidates signed onto, a No Fossil Fuel Money pledge.

David Turnbull, a spokesman for the group Oil Change U.S., which is involved in the “No Fossil Fuel Money” pledge that Mr. Biden and other candidates have signed, said that while the fund-raiser with Mr. Goldman “may not technically violate the ‘No Fossil Fuel Money’ pledge as we have defined it, it pretty clearly goes against the spirit of the pledge.”

“We defined the rules of the pledge with the intent of making it easier for candidates to live up to it, not to provide loopholes for candidates to exploit in order to keep raising funding from fossil fuel related sources,” Mr. Turnbull said.

At the end of Biden’s segment of the televised event, Anderson Cooper tried one last time to get a straight answer out of Biden about his relationship with Goldman as a fundraiser. He threw his staff under the bus.

At the end of Mr. Biden’s segment during the climate forum, which included 10 top Democratic presidential candidates, Mr. Cooper returned to the topic to clarify that Mr. Goldman “currently doesn’t have day to day responsibilities” in the gas exporter.

Mr. Biden said his campaign vets every contribution.

“What I was told by my staff is that he did not have any responsibility related to the company,” he said, referring to Mr. Goldman. “He was not on the board, he was not involved at all in the operation of the company at all. But if that turns out to be true, then I will not in any way accept his help.”

Symone Sanders played clean-up on Twitter. Here’s the clip of the final attempt by Cooper to get an answer from Biden.

Joe’s going to have to get better on his feet than that when he gets blindsided by a question. He is still a bad candidate, even after decades of serving in elected office. He truly is the Hillary Clinton of 2020.

Anderson Cooper: Decline of White American Demographic is “Exciting”

Westlake Legal Group 0ae6bbe4-8382-4a05-9bc0-a5c6a3b3689e-620x317 Anderson Cooper: Decline of White American Demographic is “Exciting” Univision United States racism Race Politics Minorities Media jorge ramos future Front Page Stories Featured Story demographics CNN Anderson Cooper Allow Media Exception

The weird thing about the “rise of white supremacy” obsession the media has going right now is that they’re doing and saying things to put themselves so far on the opposite side of white supremacy that they end up becoming racist against white people, even if they themselves are white.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper is one such anchor who recently called the demographic decline of white people in America “exciting,” and then immediately mentioned how it would make white supremacists angry.

He said this during his show on Wednesday night while speaking with Univision anchor Jorge Ramos.

“The idea that, you know, whites will not be the majority, I mean, that’s — it’s an exciting transformation of the country, it’s an exciting evolution and you know, progress of our country in many different ways,” said Cooper.

Ramos agreed with Cooper and added that this is a positive development.

I’m not going to give any heed to the argument of what is and isn’t considered racism. Racism is racism, whether you’re racist to a black person or a white person.

And what we just watched was racism.

Cooper didn’t call the development “interesting,” or treated it with any kind of neutral or fact-based language. He called it “exciting.” That’s a word you use when talking about about a future event you’re looking forward to, like a concert featuring your favorite band or a vacation to a tropical location.

Despite its popularity right now, racism against white people is awful. The erasure of its cultures should be considered bad just as it would be considered if any other culture was steadily being wiped off the map. If it was any other kind of race, you’d see days of appreciation or awareness pop up.

Cultures change, and that’s a natural thing that happens. Why it’s “exciting” to see white culture disappear, however, is sinister at its heart. You’re essentially applauding the disappearance of a people. If for some reason it was the Hispanic population that was disappearing from America and Cooper had called it exciting, he’d be tarred and feathered for his racism.

However, racism against whites is not only okay, but it’s also encouraged in today’s society. I find that awfully disturbing.

Real Life: Michael Avenatti Says He’s 50/50 On Jumping Into the Presidential Race

Just in case you didn’t think the 2020 race was crazy enough, Michael Avenatti told CNBC that he is considering running for President and that there is a 50/50 shot he’ll do so. This would be the same Michael Avenatti that’s currently under multiple federal indictments, including stealing money for a paraplegic.

The report comes per The Daily Caller.

Embattled celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti is revisiting a potential 2020 presidential bid and told CNBC he is “one of the few effective fighters” in the Democratic Party.

“Never say never,” he told CNBC Friday when asked if he might still run in 2020. “The Dems need a non-traditional fighter. They have a lot of talent but not a lot of fighters.”

Avenatti said he puts the odds of running at 50-50, and he will make a final decision in the next few months, CNBC reported Saturday.

“I don’t think I need to make a final decision for a number of months. I have the name ID and everyone knows I’m one of the few effective fighters that the Dems have,” said Avenatti, who adopted the catch phrase “basta,” or “enough,” during his frequent attacks on President Donald Trump.

I’m trying to recall exactly what Avenatti has been so effective at. Yes, he got the better of Michael Cohen, but that case was closed without touching anyone else. Even on the civil side, Trump won the defamation lawsuit and forced Stormy Daniels to pay his legal fees.

On the topic of Brett Kavanaugh, no man was more responsible for seeing to his confirmation than Michael Avenatti. He trotted out an accuser named Jule Swetnick, who not only had no credibility, but whose tales were so unbelievable than even the media had to eventually back off them.

Of course, we’d be remiss to talk about Avenatti without giving credit to those in the media who propelled him to fame. The worst actor in this regard was CNN, who put him on the air over 100 times in just the span of a few months. There was a period where he had a nearly nightly hit on Anderson Cooper’s show. Brian Stelter praised him on his weekend show as a serious Presidential candidate.

Do I think Avenatti will run? I wouldn’t put it past him at this point. He’s obviously a egomaniac with a weighty addiction to the spotlight. There’s also a possibility that he may believe the feds will back off if he’s a candidate for President. I highly doubt that given the indictments have already dropped, but when you are facing decades in prison, rationality doesn’t have to be part of a play.

It’d certainly add a bit more spice to the Democratic field at least.

During Wednesday’s Democrat debate, there was a moment where 2020 candidate, Hawaii’s Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, tore into California Senator Kamala Harris like a cat into tissue paper. It was brutal, to say the least, as Gabbard made Harris look like a massive phony when it came to criminal justice and self-aggrandizement.

Gabbard cited the fact that Harris laughed about smoking marijuana after putting away people for doing it for years. Gabbard also attacked Harris over withholding evidence that would have cleared a man on death row of guilt until she was forced to release that evidence.

Gabbard ended by saying that Harris owes the people she terrorized with her office an apology.

Harris was later given the chance to come back and explain herself in a post-interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN. I’d like to tell you that Harris was able to explain herself and shed light on the events that Gabbard highlighted.

She didn’t. Instead, she pulled a move straight out of high school and took the position that she was more popular than Gabbard and suggested that Gabbard polling at “zero or 1 percent or whatever” is the reason she went straight for Harris’s throat during the bebate.

“This is going to sound immodest, but I’m obviously a top-tier candidate, and so I did expect that I would be on the stage and take hits tonight because there are a lot of people that are trying to make the stage for the next debate,” Harris said during interview with CNN Wednesday night after the last Democratic presidential debate in Detroit. “Especially when people are at zero or 1 percent or whatever she might be at, and so I did expect that I might take hits tonight.”

“Listen, this coming from someone who has been an apologist for an individual, Assad, who has murdered the people of his country like cockroaches,” Harris told CNN. “I can only take what she says and her opinion so seriously, and so I’m prepared to move on.”

In summary, Harris has no comeback and instead resorting to being catty. This is the equivalent of resorting to mentioning someone having few Twitter followers in response to a legitimate argument. It’s not really a counterpoint, it’s just thinking you’re above someone for being more famous.

This is the height of elitism. Harris comes off more like Hillary Clinton here, thinking that her popularity and backing will just carry her through any roadblock she might come across.

It didn’t work for Clinton, and it definitely won’t work for Harris. This didn’t at all make Harris look better, only worse, but it did make Gabbard look pretty stellar.

Via the Free Beacon, did I tell you the Harris/Gabbard war was coming or did I tell you? “Gabbard might be an attack dog for Biden onstage tonight,” I wrote last night, “and if she is, the theories of why she’s allied herself with him will be flying tomorrow.” Anyone want to chip in with a theory for why Tulsi is on a seek-and-destroy mission against Harris?

It can’t be that she’s aiming to be Grandpa Joe’s VP. She’s too young and too far out of sync with Biden on foreign policy. He’s not going to spend his campaign hearing every day that he’s put an Assad stooge on the ticket. Is she eyeing some other administration job?

Ed quoted a small bit from this Harris post-debate interview in his post earlier but you need to watch it to appreciate the disdain. Contempt practically drips from the screen.

That’s the sound of a candidate who’d just gotten her bell rung on national television and was still smarting from it. The next round of polls will measure the damage Gabbard inflicted on her. But the tragedy of Tulsi’s candidacy is that Harris is right: She’s an Assad apologist and proved it again more than once last night. Anderson Cooper pressed her afterward about whether she considers Assad a torturer and a murderer and she dodged several times before croaking out the obviously correct answer. Earlier, in her closing argument onstage, she dropped this depth charge on Trump, straight out of the Assad regime’s talking points playbook:

Trump is “supporting Al Qaeda”? Because he twice ordered token strikes against Assad for … gassing civilians?

She said this a few hours after Bin Laden’s son, who was allegedly being groomed to lead Al Qaeda, was reported dead, mind you. It should tell you how far out on the limb she is in accusing Trump of supporting AQ that even the other hardcore Trump-hating Democratic candidates won’t go there. The claim is too absurd even for the opposition party; the only place you’re apt to hear it is from, well, Shiite propagandists.

What a shame. It’s easy to imagine a world in which Tulsi Gabbard is a rising star in her party and already a formidable national candidate at the tender age of 38. She’s smart and excellent in delivering a message; she laid Harris out last night on criminal justice without missing a beat. She’s also beautiful, a veteran, and an eloquent spokesman for an anti-interventionist foreign policy that has lots of interest in both parties in 2019. Over on Earth 2, Gabbard decided a few years ago that maybe she’d be better off *not* traveling to Syria and becoming a mouthpiece for the subhuman who’s in charge there and consequently she’s attracting all sorts of mainstream media interest right now as next-gen threat to the 2020 top tier. Back on Earth 1, though, Harris is well within rights to dismiss her as a crank on foreign policy. Who’s going to lay Harris out at the next debate if Gabbard has marginalized herself to the point where she can’t make the cut?
