Gutfeld: Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s Israel ‘stunt’ used grandma as ‘Trojan horse’

Events surrounding a now-curtailed trip to Israel by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., show the freshman lawmaker wanted to cause trouble, according to Greg Gutfeld.

However, Gutfeld’s co-host Juan Williams claimed Friday on “The Five” that it was President Trump who had acted inappropriately in regard to the itinerary.

“She wrote a letter saying she dearly needed to see her very old grandmother,” Gutfeld said of the Detroit-area Democrat.

“And, Israel approved. And then she said, ‘Ah, you know what, I’m not going to do it.’ So, she used her elderly grandmother as a prop for a stunt.

RASHIDA TLAIB SIGNALS SHE WON’T GO TO WEST BANK, DESPITE GETTING ISRAELI MINISTER’S PERMISSION

“Let’s not forget the trip that she was planning … was put together or planned with an anti-Semitic group.”

Gutfeld added Tlaib’s actions showed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his administration acted responsibly in the matter.

“If someone is going to your house specifically to vandalize it or destroy it, you shouldn’t have them there,” he said.

“Then she used her grandmother as a Trojan horse to get in. It’s disgusting.”

However, Williams had another view, instead calling Trump’s actions “disgusting.”

ISRAEL BLOCKS OMAR, TLAIB FROM ENTERING COUNTRY AMID PRESSURE FROM TRUMP

President Trump going to a foreign country and saying that a member of our Congress can’t travel to your country — and our president is working against the U.S. government? It’s outrageous,” he said.

“He wants to make these four somehow the face of the Democratic Party,” he said of progressive freshman House members, Tlaib among them, who comprise “the Squad.”

In making the initial decision preventing entry in an official capacity, Netanyahu said travel plans by Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., referred to a trip to “Palestine,” not Israel, and the congresswomen were not interested in meeting with Israeli officials.

He went on to note that the Palestinian organization that planned the visit, MIFTAH, supports the boycott-Israel movement, and that people associated with the group have supported terror against Israel in the past.

HOUSE OVERWHELMINGLY OKS RESOLUTION OPPOSING ISRAEL BOYCOTT IN RARE BIPARTISAN VOTE

However, in a letter sent to Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, Tlaib had requested a chance to visit her Palestinian grandmother, who lives in the West Bank, according to The Jerusalem Post.

“This could be my last opportunity to see her,” Tlaib wrote of her grandmother, who is in her 90s. “I will respect any restrictions and I will not promote any boycotts against Israel during my visit.”

Tlaib was later given permission to visit, but the Michigan lawmaker turned down the offer.

“I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in–fighting against racism, oppression & injustice,” she tweeted.

“I can’t allow the State of Israel to take away that light by humiliating me and use my love for my sity to bow down to their oppressive and racist policies.”

On Thursday, Trump said in a tweet it would show “great weakness” for Israel to allow the two congresswomen into the country.

Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend slams Jay-Z for NFL partnership

The girlfriend of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick blasted hip-hop star Jay-Z over his recently announced partnership with the NFL, calling it “disgusting and disappointing.”

“We will never turn our backs on @kaepernick7 because your idols decided to work with the same organization that is actively keeping Colin unemployed all because he peacefully protested against social injustice in black and brown communities, specifically police brutality,” radio personality Nessa wrote on Instagram Thursday night.

“So really, how can Jay-Z and the NFL utter social justice in their partnership while keeping Colin unemployed because of his social justice work?”

Earlier this week, the NFL announced that it is collaborating with Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, which will help select music artists for high-profile performances including the Super Bowl.

KAEPERNICK SHARES VIDEO CELEBRATING 3-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF KNEELING DURING ANTHEM

As part of the partnership, Roc Nation will have a role in the NFL’s “Inspire Change” campaign, which aims to strengthen social justice. However, the Grammy-winning rapper is facing backlash for his business deal after previously showing solidarity with Kaepernick. Kaepernick gained notoriety, and the scorn of figures including President Trump, for faking a knee during the national anthem to call attention to social injustice and police brutality in minority communities.

“It’s typical for the NFL to buy different PR looks to cover up their dirt- that’s nothing new. But what is disgusting and disappointing is Jay-Z let them use him,” Nessa told her Instagram followers. “Whether Jay-Z knew it or not (I don’t doubt his intelligence-so I would think he knew) he helped the NFL bury who he said is an iconic figure, Colin Kaepernick.”

She continued, “Don’t tell me there’s a “master plan and wait for it” because the ONLY reason anything would ever change is because THE PEOPLE are loud and clear and won’t let the league buy their loyalty with their disingenuous moves. The people are letting the league and anyone who works with them know that they aren’t buying the bs.”

The comments came as Kaepernick recently celebrated the three-year anniversary since he began kneeling during the anthem in order to protest police brutality.

An MSNBC guest questioned the intelligence of Trump voters on Friday, asking if anyone who attended President Trump‘s rally in Manchester, N.H., can “point out Greenland on a map?”

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has asked his advisers whether the U.S. can acquire Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, during “meetings, dinners, and passing conversations” because of Greenland’s “abundant resources and geopolitical importance.”

However, “The Beat” managing editor Tiffany Cross expressed concern when she heard that “the descendants of colonizers” are flimsily considering “taking land from indigenous people.”

“This is something, you know his supporters are like just blind followers of his, and I wonder when this becomes a talking point of his on the campaign trail, can anybody at the MAGA rally point out Greenland on a map?” Cross asked.

CNN’S DON LEMON SHAMES TRUMP VOTERS, INDEPENDENTS FOR ‘ALLOWING’ POTUS TO ‘GET AWAY WITH HORRIBLE LANGUAGE’

“I would be very interested and curious to see or tell us what kind of government Greenland has or who the indigenous people are. I highly doubt it. So I think when you have a lack of understanding of global diplomacy, you can easily throw out these asinine ideas and have, you know, the sheep following the wolf.”

Greenland, which has a population of roughly 56,000, has welcomed U.S. military personnel to its Thule Air Base as part of a treaty between the U.S. and Denmark that has been used by both U.S. Air Force Space Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and includes a ballistic missile radar station.

The Journal reported that advisers have said Trump sees purchasing Greenland as similar to the 1867 U.S. acquisition of Alaska from Russia. It remains unclear how the president would realistically pursue such a deal.

Entrepreneur and Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang told a crowd in New Hampshire on Friday that he would pardon every prison inmate convicted of non-violent marijuana offenses if he was elected.

The longshot candidate – who has never served in political office but has a loyal following of supporters who call themselves the “Yang Gang,” made the comments during an event in Concord hosted by the ACLU of New Hampshire.

“I’m going to mass pardon everyone who is in jail for nonviolent marijuana-related offenses,” Yang said.

“Americans now recognize just how broken our mass incarceration system is and how much progress we need to make,” Yang said during his remarks.

The presidential candidate has called for legalizing marijuana across the country, writing on his website, “We need to resolve the ambiguity and legalize marijuana at the federal level. This would improve safety, social equity, and generate tens of billions of dollars in new revenue based on legal cannabis businesses.”

The New York City entrepreneur – once the longest of long-shots for the White House – has surged in polling and in the number of contributors to his campaign in recent months. Earlier this month, he became the ninth candidate to reach the thresholds needed to qualify for the third and four rounds of Democratic presidential primary debates, which will be held next month and in October.

President Trump suggested Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., may have tried to set up the Israeli government after she backed away from her stated intention to visit her grandmother in the Middle East nation.

“Israel was very respectful & nice to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, allowing her permission to visit her ‘grandmother,'” Trump tweeted.

“As soon as she was granted permission, she grandstanded & loudly proclaimed she would not visit Israel. Could this possibly have been a setup? Israel acted appropriately!”

It’s unclear why Trump put the word “grandmother” in quotes.

CALIFORNIA CONGRESSMAN ON ISRAEL-‘SQUAD’ CONTROVERSY: THIS IS WHAT THE PRESIDENT WANTS US TO FOCUS ON?

Tlaib initially asked about visiting her grandmother in the country after Israel’s government denied entry to her and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pointed to the pair’s itinerary — which stated they were visiting “Palestine” rather than “Israel” — as evidence that they were intent on using their visit to bolster a push for a boycott of his nation.

When Tlaib initially requested the visit to her grandmother, she pledged not to “promote any boycotts against Israel.” But she subsequently tweeted that visiting her grandmother under those conditions would go against her beliefs.

That prompted criticism from Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, who tweeted that Tlaib apparently hated Israel more than she loved her grandmother.

Trump has long been critical of Tlaib and several of her fellow progressive congresswomen. On Tuesday, he appeared to prompt Israel’s decision to ban Tlaib and Omar, calling them out for anti-Israel sentiments.

Also on Friday, Trump tweeted that their colleague, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was angry because Omar and Tlaib were stealing the spotlight.

DOJ files brief with Supreme Court opposing workplace discrimination claims by transgender workers

The Justice Department is signaling its opposition to providing federal protections for transgender employees who claim workplace discrimination.

In a brief filed Friday at the Supreme Court, the Trump administration is opposing the position taken by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which had been supporting a transgender employee in her lawsuit against a Michigan funeral home.

LINDSEY GRAHAM SLAMS DEM COLLEAGUES FOR BRAZEN WARNING TO SUPREME COURT

The justices will hear a pair of arguments Oct. 8 on whether the federal Civil Rights Act’s Title VII laws permit LGBTQ workers to sue for job discrimination. Federal courts have been divided on whether such protections apply, even though Congress did not specially mention that class of individuals when the law was passed more than five decades ago.

The cases involve challenges by gay men in Georgia and New York, and a separate case involving a Detroit-area funeral home that terminated a longtime employee after she began transitioning. Aimee Stephens first took her complaint to the EEOC, which ruled in her favor, as did a federal appeals court in Cincinnati.

The funeral home has argued in part that Congress was not thinking about transgender people when it included sex discrimination in Title VII.

In its filing with the high court on Friday, the Justice Department said the dispute is over the limits of the definition of “sex.”

“A transgender plaintiff therefore cannot prevail in a Title VII suit simply by showing that an employer relied on sex stereotypes,” said the administration.

The plaintiff must show that the employer treated similarly situated members of the opposite sex more favorably.

“Like any other plaintiff, a transgender person may use evidence of sex stereotyping in making that showing,” the DOJ wrote. “But the individual’s transgender status does not alter the legal standard.   Here, Harris Homes did not discriminate against Stephens based on sex stereotypes in violation of Title VII.  It terminated Stephens for refusing to comply with Harris Homes’ sex-specific dress code.”

Sources told Fox News that the Justice Department had been trying for weeks to get the EEOC to change its official position and support the new brief, but that a majority of commission members had refused.

It sets up an unusual dynamic of potentially having two federal entities opposing one another in court. It was unclear whether the EEOC would clarify its own legal position with the Supreme Court.

The Trump administration’s position is a setback for LGBTQ rights. Officials are also asking for courts to allow enforcement of its ban on transgender people joining the U.S. military to proceed.

The public is often too quick to criticize classic masculine traits while ignoring their “chivalrous” actions in tense situations, according to Miranda Devine.

In her recent New York Post column, Devine laid out cases in which the “noble side” of masculinity is often glossed over, as the writer told Dana Perino Friday on “The Daily Briefing.”

“I think we so quick to damn masculinity, and unfortunately, this sort of offshoot fo the feminism movement, this sort of mutation of the #MeToo movement, has conspired to tell boys and young men that their masculinity, their very essence, is somehow toxic — is malign and diseased,” she said.

“Every time we have these stories of mayhem and bloodshed … you see men rushing in to save the weak, to save women, save children.”

SYDNEY STABBING VICTIM IDENTIFIED AS SEX WORKER WHO REPORTEDLY SAW SUSPECT BEFORE RAMPAGE

In her column, the Australian columnist pointed to brave actions by men during a recent stabbing attack in Sydney and the actions of a bouncer during the Dayton, Ohio, shooting.

She said the bouncer, Jeremy Ganger, stood “at a door and ushered everyone in, and he was injured in the process but he protected others.” Ganger suffered a leg wound in the attack.

More from media

In Australia on Tuesday, a 21-year-old man allegedly stabbed a 24-year-old woman to death, then went on a public rampage before being confronted by a group of civilians.

Those who intervened pinned him to the ground with a milk crate until authorities were able to arrest him. New South Wales Police Superintendent Gavin Wood said it appeared that the attack was unprovoked.

In her Post column, Devine described the phenomenon of men rushing toward danger as, “the chivalry instinct.”

“We always are quick to point to the dark side of masculinity when violence is committed, but too often we overlook the feats of bravery by men who combat it,” she wrote.

Pennsylvania white supremacist sentenced to two years in prison after urging ‘lone wolves’ to kill Jews

A Pennsylvania man was sentenced to two years in federal prison Thursday for violating his probation by attempting to incite social media users to kill Jews.

Hardy Lloyd, 41, posted a social media message in April protesting the Pittsburgh City Council’s ban on assault weapons after the October mass shooting incident in which a gunman killed 11 worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue.

“Anyone who supports such laws must be targeted, and their families murdered. Lone Wolves GET BUSY,” Lloyd wrote April 2, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

JOHN DELANEY REPEATEDLY QUESTIONED OVER REFUSAL TO LABEL TRUMP A ‘WHITE SUPREMACIST’ AT IOWA STATE FAIR

The next day, Lloyd furthered expressed his disdain for the three pieces of gun control legislation that would ban certain assault-style weapons and ammunition, urging others opposed to it to kill Jewish people in Squirrel Hill, where the previous attack had occurred, if the bill was not defeated.

“If not, well, disobey and kill, my Lone Wolves. Target: Jew Hill,” he wrote in an apparent reference to Squirrel Hill.

At the time of his posts, Lloyd was out on supervised release after he disrupted a vigil in suburban Mt. Lebanon, and U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab sentenced him to prison despite calls for leniency from his family and friends, according to the Post-Gazette.

Lloyd himself testified in court, claiming that he is mentally ill but was attempting to change by seeing a therapist.

“I’m not going to make excuses. I apologize for the anger, pain and confusion I’ve caused the community,” Lloyd said.

Defense attorney Patrick Livingston noted that his client has mild autism and had made “significant progress” through therapy sessions and had stopped making hateful remarks since April.

The 41-year-old’s father, Jon Lloyd, said: “There must be a balance between therapy and punishment. My son’s illness is as real as a broken bone or colon cancer.”

Prosecutor Stephen Kaufman called on the judge to reject Lloyd’s bid for supervised release, noting the April posts marked the third time Lloyd had violated probation.

“Once again, we are here,” Kaufman said, according to CBS Pittsburgh. “This time with a disgusting threat of killing people in Squirrel Hill. Unimaginable. Less than 6 months after the Tree of Life assault when 11 people were slaughtered.”

Schwab acknowledged Lloyd’s autism but agreed with Kaufman that previous sentences of supervised release were unsuccessful since Lloyd continued to write online posts that showed “intent and advocacy for killing.”

Father of Utah kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart comes out as gay

The father of kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart has come out as gay, describing the decision as a “huge relief.”

In a letter shared on his Facebook page Friday, Ed Smart, 64, said he no longer feels comfortable being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which opposes gay marriage and same-sex relationships but preaches love and compassion for LGBTQ people.

Smart told Salt Lake City’s KUTV that he “struggled with this for most of his life.”

“I have mostly watched in silence for years as many LGBTQ individuals both in and out of The Church [of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints] have been victims of ridicule, shunning, rejection and outright humiliation,” Smart wrote.

He added: “I didn’t want to face the feelings I fought so hard to suppress, and didn’t want to reach out and tell those being ostracized that I too am numbered among them. But I cannot do that any longer.”

My parents taught me as a young child that they would love me unconditionally no matter what happened. Their decisions are very personal. As such, I will not pass judgment and rather am focusing on loving and supporting them and the other members of my family.”

— Elizabeth Smart

The Smart family gained national prominence in June 2002 when Ed went before TV cameras to plead for help finding his 14-year-old daughter Elizabeth, who had been kidnapped from the family’s Salt Lake City home. Elizabeth Smart was found alive nine months later. Smart and his daughter have since become advocates for other kidnapped children.

Smart said he’s sorry for the pain caused to his longtime wife, with whom he has five children. He filed for divorce on July 5, Utah court records show.

“I love my family and always will,” Smart wrote. “Lois has been a loyal wife, and extraordinary mother, who has had to endure an impossible part of this journey. I deeply regret the excruciating pain this has caused her.”

Elizabeth Smart, now a 31-year-old mother of three, said she’s deeply saddened by her parents’ separation but that nothing could change her love for them.

“My parents taught me as a young child that they would love me unconditionally no matter what happened,” she said, without referencing her father’s orientation. “Their decisions are very personal. As such, I will not pass judgment and rather am focusing on loving and supporting them and the other members of my family.”

“It was, as I’ve said, incredibly hard getting to this point and I feel for so many that are struggling in my situation trying to make the decision of whether to come out or remain closeted the rest of their life,” he wrote. “That decision is deeply personal but liberating.”

Steve McQueen’s ‘Bullitt’ Ford Mustang to be auctioned, likely for millions

It was one of the biggest mysteries in both Hollywood and automotive history: What happened to the iconic green Ford Mustang from the Steve McQueen film “Bullitt”?

There were actually two cars used during the making of the 1968 detective thriller, one for stunts and the other for McQueen’s close-ups. The stunt car, which was wrecked during the film’s legendary chase scene, was believed to have been sent to the scrap heap, while the hero car was simply sold and disappeared from the public eye.

Flash forward to 2017, when a car restorer bought the shell of a Mustang he found in a junkyard in Mexico and brought it back to his garage. There, he and a colleague discovered some odd modifications, and research confirmed it was the stunt car from “Bullitt.” How it ended up in Mexico remains unknown.

Then, at an event the night before the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, where Ford was unveiling a new “Bullitt” tribute edition of the latest Mustang to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film, the hero car rolled out on stage next to it, shocking those in attendance.

Turns out it had been owned by the same family since 1974, when a man named Robert Kiernan bought it from a Road and Track classified ad for just $6,000. His wife used it as a daily driver until the clutch broke in 1980 and they parked it in the garage with plans to repair it that never came to fruition. As the car sat around deteriorating, its legend started to grow. In time, the Kiernans realized they had something special, but weren’t ready for the attention they knew it would get if they went public, so they kept it secret from all but a few people.

Robert died from Parkinson’s in 2014, and for a long time afterward, his son Sean couldn’t even go into the garage to look at the car. But with the encouragement of those who knew about it and the anniversary looming, he finally decided to get it running again and share it with the world. The otherwise unrestored car has been on tour ever since, with stops at car shows, museums and even a display on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. At the beginning of the journey, Sean never dreamed he’d ever sell it, but now he’s had a change of heart and is putting it up for auction.

“Everything I’ve done with it takes so much,” he told Fox News Autos. “I’ve got a baby on the way, third child, and it’s time for the next chapter in our lives.”

Sean said he has thought long and prayed hard over the decision, and even lent it to LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Wash., for a few months in part to see if he could live without it. But ultimately, he asked himself “what would dad do?”

“He’d say let it go. It’s worth a life-changing amount of money that would secure the future for your family.”

Exactly how much money?

Hagerty vice president of public relations Jonathan Klinger says his experts are sure it’ll garner the highest price ever paid for a Mustang, and $5 million wouldn’t surprise them. But it could go for much more than that.

“How do you place a value on a car that is associated with Steve McQueen — who is one of the few Hollywood celebrities that impacts values of cars — but also is associated with one of the great car chase scenes, was in hiding for nearly four decades and is in unrestored condition?”

$22 MILLION DUESENBERG IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE AMERICAN CAR EVER SOLD AT AUCTION

The answer will come at the Mecum Auctions event in Kissimmee, Fla., in January, where the Mustang will cross the block with no reserve. Kiernan said he’d received a lot of offers to buy or broker it over the past year and a half, but decided to go with Mecum for one particular reason.

“When I met [owner] Dana Mecum, he struck me as the kind of guy my dad would’ve wanted to talk cars with over a beer.”

When it’s all over, Sean will still have a green Mustang in his garage. As part of the thanks for helping it out in Detroit, Ford gave him the second 2019 Mustang GT Bullitt off the line.
