The U.S. Border Patrol confirmed with Fox News Friday that a vessel stationed on the Rio Grande was shot at multiple times by gunfire coming from the Mexican riverbank.

Agents assigned to the RGV Marine Unit in the Rio Grande Valley sector said that at around 2:25 a.m, they saw four people on the Fronton Main Landing near Fronton, Texas, who shot more than 50 rounds at them using automatic weapons.

No agents were injured, but Customs and Border Protection sources told Fox News the “vessel was hit several times.”

CBP says the investigation is ongoing and the Mexican nationals thought be responsible have not yet been identified.

The Rio Grande, which flows from the southwest of the United States into parts of northern Mexico, forms part of the U.S.-Mexico border.  Violent gangs have roamed the region across the river from Texas.

The RGV Sector has been a hotbed for illegal-immigrant apprehensions with 36,872 migrants apprehended in July, according to CBP.  U.S. authorities have also forced thousands of asylum seekers to wait in Mexico, citing capacity issues.

John Delaney repeatedly questioned over refusal to label Trump a ‘white supremacist’ at Iowa State Fair

Democratic hopeful Rep. John Delaney, D-Md., faced shouted questions over why he wouldn’t plainly call President Trump a “white supremacist” as some of his fellow 2020 contenders have.

The questions came as Delaney was surrounded by cameras and apparent members of the press after his speech at the Iowa State Fair on Friday. “Why do you stop short of calling him a white supremacist,” Delaney was asked.

The apparent reporter went on to ask what the difference was for Delaney between saying Trump supported white supremacists and using that label to describe him.

“I think it’s a distinction without a difference,” Delaney said, “because enabling white supremacists, as I said earlier, what other conclusion can you come to than he supports it for some reason.”

BETO O’ROURKE CALLS TRUMP ‘WHITE SUPREMACIST,’ SAYS US ‘HAS BEEN RACIST SINCE IT’S BEEN A COUNTRY’

Someone in the crowd ordered Delaney to “say the reason.” “I don’t know what the reason is,” Delaney added before someone shouted that Trump was a white supremacist.

“Well, that’s what I’m basically saying,” Delaney responded. Someone shouted back, “so say it!” When Delaney was told to “stop with the semantics,” before facing more scattered shouts from people questioning why he would not call Trump a white supremacist.

After Delaney continued asking what else someone could conclude from Trump’s actions, the grilling ramped up even further.

Delaney’s comments came as several 2020 contenders blasted Trump as a racist and white supremacist, blaming him in part for the political climate that allegedly motivated the shooter in El Paso, Texas.

TRUMP CONDEMNS ‘WHITE SUPREMACY,’ CALLS FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND GUN REFORMS AFTER DOUBLE MASS SHOOTINGS

That included former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, who plainly told MSNBC that Trump was a “white supremacist.”

“He is,” O’Rourke responded when asked about that label. “He’s also made that very clear. He’s dehumanized or has sought to dehumanize those who don’t look like or pray like the majority here in this country.” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said the same “without hesitation,” according to The New York Times.

Trump, on Monday, explicitly condemned white supremacy and called on the nation as a whole to reject it as well. “Now is the time to set destructive partisanship aside — so destructive — and find the courage to answer hatred with unity, devotion, and love.  Our future is in our control,” he said during a speech on Monday.

Soldier arrested with 2 others in death of stepfather found in Oklahoma cemetery

An active-duty Army man has been arrested with two others in the death of his stepfather in Oklahoma last month.

Investigators opened an investigation after finding the body of Bob Dalpoas, 49, of Haileyville, Okla., on the Fourth of July in a cemetery, according to reports.

On Wednesday, Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris announced the arrest of Dalpoas’ 21-year-old stepson, Tyler Morgan, and two other men, KOTV reported.

“We had a theory from pretty much the beginning that involved these three,” said Randy Hass, a detective in the sheriff’s office, according to the station.

Jimmy Nace, 46, of Haileyville, and Matt Vermillion, 40, of Krebs, were the other men charged. They were jailed in McAlester.

An arrest affidavit says Morgan told Army investigation that Dalpoas went down after a fight on July 3 with Nace in Haileyville, The McAlester News-Capital reported Thursday.

The affidavit says that at the cemetery, Morgan told the investigators that he and Nace grabbed a concrete bench and dropped it on Dalpoas’ head twice, the paper reported. Nace then dropped the bench on Dalpoas head a third time.

Morgon said Nace then set the man’s body on fire with lighter fluid to “destroy evidence,” according to the affidavit, the paper reported.

Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking victim named Bill Richardson, George Mitchell in newly released documents

Westlake Legal Group Jeffrey-Epstein-2017 Jeffrey Epstein's alleged sex trafficking victim named Bill Richardson, George Mitchell in newly released documents fox-news/person/jeffrey-epstein fox news fnc/politics fnc f7dfc3af-96a9-57f9-add0-ee23e385ac65 Brooke Singman article

A woman who has long claimed disgraced money man Jeffrey Epstein forced her to have sex with powerful men named two prominent Democratic politicians – former Sen. George Mitchell and ex-New Mexico governor and Clinton cabinet official Bill Richardson – in documents unsealed Friday by federal prosecutors in New York.

Friday’s revelations came from more than 2,000 documents that were unsealed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The papers included affidavits and depositions of key witnesses in a lawsuit the now-33-year-old woman, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, filed against Epstein and his associate, Ghislane Maxwell in 2015. Giuffre accused the duo of keeping her as a “sex slave” in the early 2000s when she was underage.

JEFFREY EPSTEIN PLEADS NOT GUILTY AFTER SEX TRAFFICKING ARREST

Giuffre claimed in a May 2016 deposition to have been trafficked to have sex with and provide erotic massages to powerful politicians, foreign leaders and well-heeled businessmen. In ordering the documents released, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit also warned that the allegations contained within them are not necessarily proven.

Giuffre alleged in her own deposition that she was allegedly forced to have sex with Richardson, 71, Britain’s Prince Andrew, Hedge Fund manager Glenn Dubin, American scientist Marvin Minsky, “another prince,” “a large hotel chain owner,” Stephen Kauffman, and model scout Jean Luc Brunell.

In another deposition, Giuffre also reveals that she was “trafficked” to Mitchell, a former Senate Majority leader who represented Maine from 1980-95 and was later named special envoy to the Middle East by President Obama. A sworn affidavit by a former Epstein employee, Juan Alessi, also alleges Mitchell, 85, of having associated with Epstein.

“The allegation contained in the released documents is false,” Mitchell said in a statement to Fox News. “I have never met, spoken with or had any contact with Ms. Giuffre.”

He added: “In my contacts with Mr. Epstein I never observed or suspected any inappropriate conduct with underage girls. I only learned of his actions when they were reported in the media related to his prosecution in Florida. We have had no further contact.”

A spokesperson for Richardson denied the allegations, telling Fox News in a statement Friday that they are “completely false.”

“Governor Richardson has never even been contacted by any party regarding this lawsuit,” the spokesperson said. “To be clear, in Governor Richardson’s limited interactions with Mr. Epstein, he never saw him in the presence of young or underage girls. Governor Richardson has never been to Mr. Epstein’s residence in the Virgin Islands. Governor Richardson has never met Ms. Giuffre.”

Giuffre also has long-claimed that Epstein forced her to have sex with Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz. In the newly-revealed documents, Giuffre, who was at the time labeled as “Jane Doe #3,” claimed that Epstein required her to have sexual relations with Dershowitz on numerous occasions while she was a minor. Giuffre claimed to have had the encounters in Florida, on private planes, in New York, New Mexico, and in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Dershowitz has vehemently denied the allegations.

The documents also reveal that Giuffre allegedly had sexual relations with Prince Andrew in three separate locations—Maxwell’s London apartment, New York, and Epstein’s private island, Little St. James, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Giuffre also claimed to have had sex with Brunel in numerous locations, including West Palm Beach, Little St. James Island, New York City, New Mexico, Paris, the South of France, and California.

Meanwhile, included in the hundreds of pages of documents were pages of flight logs from Epstein’s private jet. Prominent individuals who had traveled on the jet, according to those records, included Bill Gates, who flew once, former President Bill Clinton and aide Doug Band, who flew four times, President Trump, who flew once in 1997 from Palm Beach to New York, Colombian President Andres Pastrana, Dershowitz, Hyatt Hotels Chairman Tom Pritzker, Brunel, and model and talent agent Naomi Campbell, among others.

Epstein pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and sex trafficking conspiracy last month in New York. Epstein, 66, is accused of having preyed on dozens of victims as young as 14.

Epstein allegedly created and maintained a “vast network” and operation from 2002 “up to and including” at least 2005 that enabled him to “sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls” in addition to paying victims to recruit other underage girls. Prosecutors said that victims would be escorted to a room with a massage table where they would perform massages on Epstein.

“The victims, who were as young as 14 years of age, were told by Epstein or other individuals to partially or fully undress before beginning the ‘massage’,” prosecutors wrote. “During the encounter, Epstein would escalate the nature and scope of physical contact with his victims to include, among other things, sex acts such as groping and direct and indirect contact with the victim’s genitals.”

Victims would be paid hundreds of dollars in cash by either Epstein or one of his associates or employees.

EPSTEIN HAD HELP OPERATING SEX TRAFFICKING RING FROM WOMEN HE ALLEGEDLY COERCED

Prosecutors also allege that Epstein “worked and conspired with others, including employees and associates” who helped facilitate his conduct by contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters with Epstein at his mansion in New York City and in Palm Beach, Fla.

Giuffre claims that Maxwell was one of those associates. Giuffre has accused Maxwell as being Epstein’s madam who allegedly approached her in 1999 when she was just 15. Maxwell, 57, is the daughter of Robert Maxwell, a disgraced publishing mogul who was accused of theft from his company’s pension funds to prevent bankruptcy. Maxwell was born and raised in England and immigrated to America in 1991, and became a fixture in the New York social scene. Maxwell has been photographed over the years at events with Prince Andrew, the Clintons and Trump. Maxwell dated Epstein for a short period of time before becoming close friends.

Epstein’s arrest came amid renewed scrutiny of a once-secret plea deal that ended a federal investigation against him.

That deal, which has been challenged in Florida federal court, allowed Epstein, 66, to plead guilty to lesser state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under age 18 for prostitution.

The plea deal was brokered with the help of then-U.S. attorney in Florida Alexander Acosta. The deal was criticized as lenient because Epstein could have faced a life sentence.

Last month, Acosta, who served as secretary of Labor for Trump, resigned from his post amid renewed scrutiny over the deal.

Richard Gere boards humanitarian ship carrying 121 migrants amid standoff with European countries

Richard Gere on Friday boarded a Spanish humanitarian ship that has been stuck in the Mediterranean Sea for more than a week because no European government will welcome the 121 migrants who are aboard.

In a bid to draw attention to the standoff, Gere boarded the Open Arms some 27 nautical miles off Lampedusa, Italy’s southernmost island. The vessel, which faces a fine of up to 1 million euros if it enters Italian waters, has been idle for eight days.

The “Pretty Woman” actor helped bring food and supplies to the boat and asked for support for the ship, whose passengers include 9-month-old Ethiopian twins.

“The most important thing for these people here is to be able to get to a free port, to get off the boat, to get on land and start a new life,” Gere said, urging the world to “please support us here on Open Arms and help these people, our brothers and sisters.”

Some online praised Gere for his humanitarian efforts, while others scorned him as a “multi-millionaire” who ought to “put some of them up in (his) own home.”

Italy’s firebrand Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who is popular for his hardline stance against migrant arrivals and who this week plunged Italy into a political crisis, mocked Gere on Twitter.

“Richard Gere on Open Arms? I hope he gets tanned and he feels alright…Since this ship is a Spanish NGO, they can unload the passengers at Ibiza or Formentera, right?” Salvini wrote.

The EU Commission said Friday it has not received any requests from a national government to intervene, which is typically required. But spokeswoman Annika Breidhardt said the commission was reaching out to member states “to show solidarity.” She noted a solution depended on “the willingness” of member states to step up.

ITALIAN NATIONALIST LEADER SALVINI, SURGING IN THE POLLS, DEMANDS SNAP ELECTION

Such standoffs have persisted over the last 14 months since Italy’s populist government took office and Salvini became interior minister. He blames the EU and other member states for leaving Italy alone to manage migrant arrivals for too long.

He likens rescue ships to migrant taxi services and raised the stakes this week by winning parliamentary approval for a new security decree that increased fines on ships entering Italian waters without permission to 1 million euros from 50,000 euros.

Migrant arrivals in Italy are down dramatically to some 4,042 so far this year, down 78% from last year’s 18,897 and 96% from 96,847 in 2017. Many migrants continue to arrive on their own in Lampedusa, often from Tunisia, despite Salvini’s campaign against humanitarian rescue ship.

Russian pharmacies report rise in sales of iodine near site of mysterious military explosion

Civilians of two northern Russian cities flocked to pharmacies Friday to purchase large quantities of iodine after a mysterious explosion at a nearby military testing site Thursday.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that two people were killed and six injured after a liquid-propelled rocket engine exploded at the site, adding that the incident did not release any harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.

However, authorities in the nearby port city of Severodvinsk (map pictured) reported a spike in radiation levels in the area, and are unsure why the accident would cause such changes. Data cited by Greenpeace from Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations showed radiation levels rose 20 times above the normal level in the city, about 18 miles from the testing site.

They also reassured that radiation levels in the region remained stable, but refused to give further details, Reuters reports.

“Everyone has been calling asking about iodine all day,” a pharmacy said.

The large demand for iodine also spread to pharmacies in Russia’s northern port city of Arkhangelsk, which strained their iodine supplies until the point of exhaustion.

“We still have iodine left,” an Arkhangelsk pharmacy stated, “but a really large number of people have come in for it today.”

Authorities have since shut down an area of the Dvina Bay in the White Sea, near the testing site, without elaborating on specifics of the closure; an unidentified naval officer only stated that the explosion could have caused a toxic fuel spill.

Nyonoksa, a village near the site of the accident, is reportedly another location where weapons, such as ballistic and cruise missiles, are tested and used by the Russian navy.

The incident came days after massive explosions at a military ammunition depot in Siberia, resulting in eight injuries. That same facility, near the city of Achinsk, had another explosion Friday, when it was reportedly hit by lightning.

China is removing religious references from children’s books, according to a watchdog group.

The Ministry of Education is censoring words like “Bible,” “God,” and “Christ” from classic children’s stories designed to help middle schoolers “understand other cultures,” Asia News reported.

The Communist Party government swapped out “Bible” in “Robinson Crusoe” written by Daniel Defoe for “book.”

Asia News also notes censorship is happening at the university level, where professors have banned classics with religious references such as “The Count of Monte Cristo” by A. Dumas, “Resurrection” by Leo Tolstoy, and “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” by Victor Hugo.

Bob Fu, Chinese-American pastor and founder of ChinaAid, a nonprofit pushing for religious freedom and rule of law in China, wrote about such practices in a Fox News op-ed last year about China’s crackdown on organized religion.

“The government’s repression against the churches is being done in the name of President Xi Jinping’s “sinicization” campaign, ostensibly to strengthen Chinese culture,” Fu said. “However, it increasingly appears aimed at removing the Bible and its teachings from Chinese Christianity.”

Hawaii man sentences himself to 5 years in prison for burglary

A man facing six months behind bars in a burglary case in Hawaii asked for — and received — a sentence that will keep him locked up for five years.

“I just want the five,” Kyle Neuberger, 34, told the astonished judge Thursday, according to the Garden Island newspaper.

Neuberger had pleaded guilty to breaking into a Wailua home March 2 in exchange for a six-month jail sentence.

His request for a longer sentence came after the owner of the house said the break-in had traumatized her and her granddaughter, according to the paper.

“We want to make sure he gets help,” the woman said according to the paper. “I don’t want to see him on the streets anymore. And that’s the end of the story.”

Neuberger apologized as he asked for “an open five.”

“I’m sorry for what I did,” he was quoted as saying by the newspaper. “I didn’t intend to stay in the residence. I was kind of out of my mind. I believe I deserve the five-year term.”

After delivering the sentence, Judge Randal Valenciano told Neuberger, “Good luck,” according to the Garden Island.
