Lara Trump: Dems using white-supremacy accusations to deflect from economy

Trump 2020 senior adviser Lara Trump appeared on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Tuesday and dismissed accusations that the president, her father-in-law, is racist. She said the claim is a way to deflect from his success.

“I don’t know how many times a president has to denounce white supremacy and say that he does not agree with it.  And that it is horrific and that he doesn’t stand for any type of racism,” Trump told MacCallum.

AOC SAYS CALLING PEOPLE ‘COMMUNIST’ HAS A ‘RICH HISTORY’ IN ‘WHITE SUPREMACY’

“Of course this president does not support white supremacy. That is a ridiculous talking point.”

Since former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony last month, conservative pundits have accused Democrats of shifting the narrative to racism and have accused President Trump of inflaming white supremacy.

More from Fox News Media

Trump argued that “the left” is using racism to deflect from a booming economy.

“It continues to be pushed by the left because when that talk … about what this president has been able to do in two and a half years in this country, Martha, it is so hard to fight against it when you have the best economy that we’ve seen in decades, almost ever in this country,” Trump said.

Trump also ripped Democrats for their border policies.

“They know they have someone looking out for them on our southern border, as opposed to all the Democrats who want open borders. That is very hard for them to fight against,” Trump said.

“So what do you do?  You call someone a racist, you call someone a white supremacist or say they support white supremacy,” Trump added.

A suspect is in custody after he threatened to kill a child, set his girlfriend on fire in Mississippi, then sent police on a chase through Tennessee on Tuesday, police said.

In a news release sent to Fox News, Olive Branch, Miss., police said officers were dispatched to help the fire department with an injured person on Tuesday after a woman “had been doused with a flammable liquid and set afire by her boyfriend, who had fled the scene.”

Police said the suspect, now identified as 42-year-old Jeremy Manning of Olive Branch, took a 3-year-old girl with him when he fled.

A short time later, police said Memphis officers “made contact” with Manning, who allegedly told an officer that he was going to kill the child.

He then “sped off with Memphis police in pursuit,” Olive Branch police said.

The police chase happened around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Manning drove back to the Olive Branch area, according to police, who added that he then “put the child out of the vehicle, continuing to flee and ignoring the officer’s efforts” to get him to stop.

Police said he then rammed into a Memphis police vehicle, causing the squad car to hit another.

“Both officers who were in the squad cars were transported in non-critical condition,” according to the Memphis Police Department.

The department said officers captured Manning after a foot chase in Olive Branch.

The child was not harmed and has since been reunited with her mother, Olive Branch police said.

The 3-year-old is the niece of the burn victim, according to Memphis police.

Manning’s girlfriend is in critical condition in an area burn center, according to Olive Branch police.

Memphis police said Manning was transported to a local hospital for evaluation “due to the fact that he reportedly ingested narcotics.”

Manning has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, kidnapping, child endangerment and arson.

Man with loaded shotgun, machete claiming ‘liberty business’ arrested outside Pentagon, police say

A Kentucky man was arrested outside the Pentagon recently after he showed up with a loaded shotgun and a machete in his truck, claiming to be there on “liberty business,” according to a report.

Charles Lawson approached two police officers in the Pentagon parking lot at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 and made incoherent statements, investigators said.

He admitted to having a weapon in his car when questioned and also to having spent the day drinking alcohol, WTOP reported Monday, citing court documents.

Police handcuffed Lawson and searched his vehicle. They discovered a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a box of shotgun shells, an 18-inch machete and a pocketknife in his pickup truck, as well as an open bottle of whiskey and white paper with a “green leafy substance” wrapped inside, according to court documents.

Police took Lawson to the hospital for evaluations, where he commented to a doctor about being diagnosed as a schizophrenic, court documents said.

Lawson had been involuntarily hospitalized in November 2018 for mental illness, a background check found, and he cannot legally have a gun.

CNN host Chris Cuomo was the victim of a setup, though he still decided to get into a verbal altercation instead of walking away, according to Juan Williams.

Cuomo, the younger brother of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was right to be upset at being called “Fredo” — a reference to the “weak” Corleone brother in “The Godfather,” Williams claimed Tuesday on “The Five.”

“I’m taken by the idea that this was recorded. It indicates to me that this was a setup. This guy set up Chris Cuomo and Chris Cuomo fell for the bait.”

CNN’S CHRIS CUOMO SEEN IN UNVERIFIED VIDEO CURSING AT A MAN WHO APPARENTLY CALLED HIM ‘FREDO’

In a video posted to YouTube, Cuomo became enraged at a man at a Shelter Island, N.Y., venue and responded with a string of expletives.

“No, punk-ass b—-es from the right call me ‘Fredo.’ My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN,” he said.

“‘Fredo’ was from ‘The Godfather.’ He was a weak brother and they use that as an Italian slur — are any of you Italian?… It’s a f—ing insult to your people. It’s an insult to your f–kin’ people. It’s like the N-word for us. Is that a cool f—ing thing?”

On “The Five,” Williams said the man’s rhetoric was intended to “provoke” the younger Cuomo.

“That’s why you see so many people standing up for Chris Cuomo — including people on this channel.”

He noted that President Trump found Cuomo’s actions ripe for criticism.

The president condemned the CNN host’s comments, saying his coarse language was “horrible.”

“He looked like a total out-of-control animal. He lost it,” the Republican said as he departed Morristown, N.J., earlier Tuesday for an event in western Pennsylvania.

Brooke Goldstein: Anti-Jewish and anti-Israel school curriculum on verge of approval in California

Westlake Legal Group classroom-iStock Brooke Goldstein: Anti-Jewish and anti-Israel school curriculum on verge of approval in California fox-news/world/religion/judaism fox-news/us/us-regions/west/california fox-news/us/religion/judaism fox-news/us/education fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc d87b4d1c-61c7-5b9c-87bb-99c72730f311 Brooke Goldstein article

The California Department of Education is on the verge of implementing radical changes to its school curriculum for grades 9 through 12, including anti-Jewish and anti-Israel content.

Public comments on the proposed curriculum are open until Thursday, so there is little time left for California to change course in favor of a more inclusive and less divisive program.

In 2016 California enacted a law that updated scholastic requirements to include a mandatory Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. The Instructional Quality Commission was directed to develop this curriculum to be submitted to the state Board of Education by Dec. 31 this year.

STATE DEPT. UPDATES ‘ANTI-SEMITISM’ DEFINITION FOLLOWING OMAR’S ANTI-ISRAEL RESOLUTION

More from Opinion

Unfortunately, the curriculum, while making every effort to address bias against the many ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic statuses, and identities that make up the diverse community of California, poignantly fails to include the Jewish experience.

The curriculum glossary includes words like racism, sexism, cisheteropatriarchy, classism, homophobia, Islamophobia, patriarchy, white supremacy, and xenophobia – but not anti-Semitism.

The curriculum goes on to condemn Israel and support anti-Semitic and unlawful boycotts against Jewish people and businesses.

Despite the long history of hate and discrimination that the Jewish people have suffered because of their ethnic and religious background, Jews are omitted as an ethnic group in the proposed curriculum.

Not only does the curriculum neglect to acknowledge discrimination and persecution directed towards Jews in California and around the world, it actively vilifies Jews.

The proposed curriculum contains classic anti-Semitic tropes. In one case – in a section dedicated to addressing “Arab stereotypes” – the curriculum recommends song lyrics that say Israelis “use the press so they can manufacture,” echoing an age-old charge that Jews control the media.

The curriculum goes on to condemn Israel and support anti-Semitic and unlawful boycotts against Jewish people and businesses.

In addition, the curriculum is riddled with historical inaccuracies that skew the truth against Israel. In one section, it defines “Israel-Palestine” as a country. In another, recommended song lyrics refer to the “Israeli colony.”

A letter from the California Legislative Jewish Caucus to the Instructional Quality Commission describes many of the flaws of the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum.

Why is Israel, the world’s only Jewish state, specifically targeted and singled out for condemnation?

The answer may be simpler than you think. Three of the 18 individuals who have developed the curriculum have a documented history of anti-Israel bias.

Gaye Theresa Johnson, Theresa Montano and Samia Shoman are all academics whose writings and actions clearly demonstrate their antipathy towards Israel and the Jewish people. These misguided and prejudiced individuals should not be allowed to play any role in developing content meant to educate high school students.

The bill approved by the California Legislature in 2016 identified a singular objective for a new curriculum: “preparing pupils to be global citizens with an appreciation for the contributions of multiple cultures.”

By any measure, this program fails to meet the mark. By denying the existence of the Jewish people as an ethnic group and by twisting a complex geopolitical issue into an unfounded condemnation of Israel, this curriculum does a disservice to California students.

State officials need to stop anti-Jewish and anti-Israel curriculum from being adopted before they themselves become complicit in the indoctrination of the next generation.

President Trump ripped into The New York Times on Twitter Tuesday while he promoted one of its critics and created his own version of its historic slogan.

“ALL THE NEWS THAT’S NOT FIT TO PRINT!” Trump said, playing off of the Times’ “All the News That’s Fit to Print.”

Trump went on to quote New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin’s appearance on “Fox & Friends,” during which Goodwin blasted the Times for its decision to change a headline that reported on Trump’s response to two mass shootings in August.

NEW YORK TIMES HEADLINE OF TRUMP’S REMARKS ON MASS SHOOTINGS IGNITES BACKLASH

Amid criticism over the original headline — “TRUMP URGES UNITY VS. RACISM” — the paper changed it.

During that speech, Trump denounced white supremacy and called on the nation to “set destructive partisanship aside — so destructive — and find the courage to answer hatred with unity, devotion and love.”

More from Media

But according to The Times, the headline was “bad.” “It was written on deadline and when it was passed along for approval we all saw it was a bad headline and changed it pretty quickly,” Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet reportedly said.

Goodwin told “Fox & Friends” that the paper had created a “monster” that fed people Trump hatred.

“The Times has created a monster in that it has to give its readers a daily dose of ‘hate Trump.’ And if you don’t, if you drop the ball on one headline, they will come after you because this is now what they expect of the New York Times,” he said.

Goodwin also had his own take on the Times slogan: “It’s all the news that fits their agenda, is what they print.”

Amazon’s Choice under fire amid widespread fraud in recommendations

Two senators are demanding that Amazon explain how it comes up with its well-known “Amazon Choice” label, a mark of distinction that earns certain products preferred placement with the retail platform.

In a letter to CEO Jeff Bezos, Sens. Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut have asked the tech giant to explain how products get designated as Amazon’s Choice, voicing fears that consumers might be getting hoodwinked into buying products that are not worthwhile due to fake reviews.

“We are concerned the badge is assigned in an arbitrary manner, or worse, based on fraudulent product reviews. While we recognize that Amazon has taken actions in the past to combat fraudulent reviews, the problem persists, and Amazon may be exacerbating the problem by actively promoting products with fraudulent reviews,” the two senators, both Democrats, wrote.

SCARY DEEPFAKE SHOWS BILL HADER MORPHING INTO TOM CRUISE

A number of recent reports have said that Amazon is flooded with thousands of fake reviews and the Federal Trade Commission has been looking into the matter as well.

The letter makes a range of demands, including that Amazon reveal exactly how products get recommended for the program, whether an algorithm is informing the company’s decisions about the program, and whether actual humans review the products to make sure they are worthy of the special label.

The Seattle-based company, which debuted the Amazon Choice label in 2015, has until Sept. 16 to respond to lawmakers’ questions. The description on the site says, “Amazon’s Choice recommends highly rated, well-priced products available to ship immediately.”

As other news outlets have noted for years, it remains a mystery how a product earns the designation.

A spokesperson for Amazon gave Fox News the following statement via email on Tuesday:

“Amazon invests significant resources to protect the integrity of reviews in our store because we know customers value the insights and experiences shared by fellow shoppers. Even one inauthentic review is one too many. We have clear participation guidelines for both reviewers and selling partners and we suspend, ban and take legal action on those who violate our policies.

The company uses a combination of teams of investigators and automated technology to prevent and detect inauthentic reviews, and to take action against the bad actors behind the abuse; the company estimates that 90 percent of inauthentic reviews are computer generated.

The spokesperson continued: “We work hard to enrich the shopping experience for our customers and selling partners with authentic reviews written by real customers. Customers can help by reporting any requests they get to manipulate reviews to customer service.”

Schumer to ask Trump to divert $5 billion in border wall funding to fight gun violence, white-supremacy extremists

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Tuesday said he’ll ask President Trump to withdraw his request for $5 billion in border wall construction funds, and to instead use that money to battle gun violence and white-supremacist extremism following two deadly mass shootings this month.

Schumer’s office said he will formally petition the president to put the funding toward gun violence research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Homeland Security counterviolent extremism programs, FBI domestic-terrorism investigations and other programs.

TRUMP DECLARES EMERGENCY ON BORDER, EYES $8B FOR WALL AS HE SIGNS SPENDING PACKAGE

“The dual scourges of gun violence and violent white supremacist extremism in this country are a national security threat, plain and simple, and it’s time the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress starting treating them as such,” Schumer said in a statement.

“Now Republicans and this administration need to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to addressing gun violence and stopping the rise of domestic terrorism, especially stemming from white supremacy,” the statement continued.

In February, Trump used a national emergency declaration to divert funding from the Pentagon for his long-promised border wall. He took that tack after Congressional Democrats refused to fund the project.

Schumer’s request came after CQ Roll Call reported that Senate Republicans were looking to divert about $5 billion from a domestic spending bill to fund the wall. The shootings in Texas and Ohio earlier this month have intensified the pressure on lawmakers to address gun violence and white nationalism,

The gunman in El Paso, Texas, who killed 22 people inside a Walmart targeted Hispanic immigrants.

China denies request for US Navy warships to visit a restive Hong Kong

China has rejected requests for two U.S. Navy warships to visit Hong Kong as massive, weekslong pro-democracy protests continue to roil the former British colony, a U.S. defense official told Fox News.

The USS Green Bay and USS Lake Erie were scheduled for port visits in Hong Kong this Saturday and in September, respectively, but the Chinese government has denied the requests, U.S. Pacific Fleet deputy spokesman Cmdr. Nate Christensen said Tuesday.

“The U.S. Navy has a long track record of successful port visits to Hong Kong, and we expect them to continue,” Christensen said. “We refer you to the Chinese government for further information about why they denied the request.”

The Chinese government has not publicly stated why it denied the Navy’s request, but this would not be the first time it rejected a port visit to Hong Kong.

China denied an American request for the USS Wasp to visit Hong Kong in September 2018 over escalating U.S.-China trade tensions.

The last U.S. warship to visit Hong Kong was the USS Blue Ridge this past April.

HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CANCELS ALL FLIGHTS, CHINA COMPARES PROTEST TO ‘TERRORISM’

Protests have taken place in the Hong Kong region for more than two months now, as tens of thousands demand that Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam step down and that the government pull legislation that would allow it to extradite criminal suspects to mainland China. The fear is that on the mainland, those suspects would face unfair trials and torture.

Protesters are also calling for an independent probe into the alleged abuse of power by the police.

Protesters shut down Hong Kong International Airport for the second day in a row on Tuesday. All flights were canceled Monday as protesters occupied the main terminal, and flights were again canceled Tuesday.

The airport is one of the world’s busiest, and the closure is said to have a major impact on the tourism industry there.

TRUMP SAYS CHINA ‘MOVING TROOPS’ TO HONG KONG BORDER AS POLICE CLASH WITH PROTESTERS

On Tuesday, President Trump tweeted about the protests in Hong Kong.

“Many are blaming me, and the United States, for the problems going on in Hong Kong. I can’t imagine why?” he wrote.

The president later tweeted, “Our Intelligence has informed us that the Chinese Government is moving troops to the Border with Hong Kong. Everyone should be calm and safe,” referring to the clashes of police and pro-democracy protesters.

The NFL and Jay-Z’s entertainment and sports representation company are teaming up for events and social activism.

The league not only will use Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to consult on its entertainment presentations, including the Super Bowl halftime show, but will work with the rapper and entrepreneur’s company to “strengthen community through music and the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative.”

Inspire Change was created by the league after an agreement with a coalition of players who demonstrated during the national anthem to protest social and racial injustice in this country. Those demonstrations were sparked by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.

JAY-Z OFFICIALLY REACHES BILLIONAIRE STATUS

NFL owners agreed to contribute up to $89 million over six years toward causes players were supporting. Commissioner Roger Goodell sees the partnership with Roc Nation as a significant step in several directions.

“Roc Nation is one of the most globally influential and impactful organizations in entertainment,” Goodell said. “The NFL and Roc Nation share a vision of inspiring meaningful social change across our country. We are thrilled to partner with Roc Nation and look forward to making a difference in our communities together.”

While the entertainment portion of the deal is important — Roc Nation’s stable includes Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Shakira and, of course, Jay-Z — much emphasis from both the league and the representation group is being placed on the social relations aspect of the agreement. For Inspire Change to succeed, it must have strong roots within the communities that are most affected by the issues the players want addressed: criminal justice reform; relationships with police; economic growth opportunities; and educational progress.

“With its global reach, the National Football League has the platform and opportunity to inspire change across the country,” said Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter. “Roc Nation has shown that entertainment and enacting change are not mutually exclusive ideas — instead, we unify them. This partnership is an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of communities across America.”

Jay-Z has been a strong supporter of Kaepernick, who has not played in the NFL the past two seasons and is not with a team now. He has turned down invitations to perform at the Super Bowl, as has Rihanna.

But now there is a working agreement between the league and Roc Nation, which also represents such NFL stars as Todd Gurley, Saquon Barkley and Ndamukong Suh. How that plays out on both the entertainment and social initiatives fronts figures to be newsworthy.
