The Daily Spike: A good luck letter before Canine Companions training

Westlake Legal Group Jennifer-Williams-the-daily-spike-instagram The Daily Spike: A good luck letter before Canine Companions training Jennifer Williams fox-news/shows/the-daily-spike fox-news/lifestyle/pets fox-news/lifestyle fox news fnc/lifestyle fnc article 3f4c7615-0da8-5295-a130-47c7636ff3bc

Dear Spike,

One week from today, we will part ways. You are heading to professional training at Canine Companions for Independence, aka doggy college, and I couldn’t be prouder.  You’re a very special dog – unlike those civilian dogs we pass on the street every day, you are a service dog in training. You are learning to become a life partner of a child, adult, or veteran with a disability, or you may work in a facility that helps many people. How cool is that?

That’s why we’ve been going to puppy training classes and working on all those commands.  That’s why I ask you to ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and ‘heel’ all the time. That’s why I ask you to walk backwards or put your front two paws up on a counter.  That’s why I ask you to lay so quietly and nicely next to my desk at work all day.

You know how I say “dress” and we put on your vest and leash? That’s your uniform you wear when you are working.  Remember how it took you a really long time to figure out how to “speak” on command? That was a tough one, but you figured it out.  I know it’s been hard, but there’s a reason we ignore the other dogs on the street – it is all part of your focused training as a Canine Companions service dog.

THE DAILY SPIKE: THE POWER OF SERVING

We’ve had a lot of fun together, too. Remember learning how to swim with that pretty black lab in the Long Island Sound? You were a little timid but as soon as you saw Gibson having such a good time you jumped right in. Remember flying to Buffalo for the first time to see your grandma who has that mean, chubby dachshund? I know, I know. I didn’t tell you, but that waddling dog bit me a couple years ago, so now we both don’t like him – but don’t tell Grandma!

Traveling to Buffalo also meant you saw your first Buffalo Bills game! And you also saw the Brooklyn Nets, the Yankees, and the Chicago Cubs play, too. We went fishing in Canada, rode a tractor in Maryland and even placed a bet at the Kentucky Derby. We took some of your fellow Canine Companions pups in training to see the New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square.

You were on TV a bunch of times with a really nice lady named Dana Perino. I know how much you love her, the way you get all excited after sitting in the control room and then meeting her after the show. You especially enjoyed when we got to hang out with her dog Jasper, one of your best friends who can be really hard to keep up with!

I know people like to see puppies and dogs on TV, but you always had a special message when you went on TV with that nice lady. You were creating awareness about what it’s like to have a disability. You showed millions of people that a service dog can help someone be more independent, and perhaps even save their life. This is what you were born to do, Spike.

Here we are today, now at the point where I’ve taught and shown you all I can. It’s best for your training if we don’t see each other, and yes, that makes me sad. But it’s for a good reason. You are going to have a new best friend at Canine Companions – a professional trainer who will teach you so much more.

Spike, you need to listen to everything they say – focus and follow all the instructions! Be a good boy and study hard. You will be working all day long and it may be tiring at first, but stick with it. Go to bed early and have all those sweet puppy dreams you have every night where your legs move as if you are chasing squirrels.

While I want nothing more than for you to be a really successful service dog, it’s also possible that you weren’t meant for that job. So you also need to know it’s OK if you go through all this training and just want to be a civilian dog. You will figure it out, and I’ll be proud of you no matter what.

I will be really sad next Friday, but I will also be so proud of all we have accomplished together. So, after you get your cap and gown and matriculate, after the crowds disappear and we have to say goodbye, just remember – I love you so, so much. You are the best boy, Spike. You have been my best friend and partner. You have changed my life. And I can’t wait for you to change someone else’s.

Love,

Jennifer

After the sudden death of “Descendants 3” star Cameron Boyce, the movie paid tribute to the actor.

During the ending credits of the Disney Channel film, a two-minute video was added which featured the 20-year-old throughout his career from this time on “Jessie” to all three “Descendants” movies.

Friend Debby Ryan, Michelle Obama, and director Kenny Ortega were all featured.

Off-duty Florida police officer jumps into action after SUV goes airborne, hits trees before landing

An off-duty Florida police officer jumped into action after witnessing an SUV hitting the bank of a driveway and going airborne Friday morning.

Reserve Ponce Intel patrol Officer Rich Gardner was on State Road 415 in New Smyrna Beach when he saw a white SUV drift across the road before it hit a back on a driveway and go airborne. The vehicle hit some trees before landing in a ditch.

Gardner and another man ran to the smoking SUV and helped the two people – a man and a woman – in the vehicle, according to Fox 35.

FLORIDA BOY, 9, DROWNS IN CREEK WHILE UNCLE AND MOM SWIM NEARBY

“There was a female inside that was at the closest point to the door, and she was in some pain, she said she had back pain. I just asked her to grab my arm, so I could pull her out. We got her out first and then the driver ended up jumping out on his own,” Gardner said.

The police officer stayed with the pair until a nurse took over for them. He told Fox 35 that he believes they’re both going to survive.

“It’s almost surreal to see something like that,” Garner added, “You don’t expect to see something like that in your normal course of the day.”

It’s still not clear why they drifted across the oncoming lane.

Butch Robidoux, an office specialist at the Ponce Inlet Police Department told Fox News they are aware of the incident but had no comment because the Gardner was off-duty at the time.

Georgia cop holds on to suspect’s vehicle as he’s dragged onto freeway after traffic stop, video shows

Dramatic dash camera video shows the moment when a Georgia police officer jumped into the driver’s side window of a fleeing vehicle following a routine traffic stop on Thursday.

Dunwoody Polie Officer Nathan Daley had pulled over a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu after the driver, identified as 35-year-old Derric Simpson, allegedly violated the state’s hands-free law. According to authorities, Simpson put the vehicle in gear, attempting to flee and Daley quickly jumped into the driver’s side window.

The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu is seen in the video swerving and eventually smashing into vehicles to shake the officer as he traveled along the entrance ramp to the I-285 freeway. As he was left hanging out of the vehicle, Daley reportedly told Simpson to stop the car multiple times, but he wouldn’t stop, according to the Dunwoody Police Department.

WOMAN SHOT BY TEXAS COP WAS FIRE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTER

Immediately after entering the freeway, Simpson made a sharp left turn, merging into traffic and clipping a white Ford van, which caused Daley to tumble into the middle of the busy road.

Georgia officers eventually caught up with Simpson further down the freeway after the Malibu was involved in another crash just before Roswell Road. He ditched the wrecked vehicle and fled to a forested area near the freeway, and was later taken into custody.

Simpson was arrested on multiple charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated battery, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and trafficking ecstasy, the Dunwoody Police Department said.

THREE ARRESTED IN MURDER OF OFF-DUTY LAPD OFFICER

Daley was taken to the hospital where he was treated, released and is expected to make a full recovery. He posted a video message while draped in a hospital gown, calling the injuries just a “little nick nack”

“It does look as bad as it feels, but you know me, I will bounce back 10 times stronger,” Daley told the local community. “I love you guys, thank you so much for your support.”

Meghan Markle to write children’s book: report

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6062769626001_6062768507001-vs Meghan Markle to write children's book: report The Sun fox-news/world/personalities/british-royals fox-news/entertainment/celebrity-news/meghan-markle fnc/entertainment fnc article 9ea8d346-0bb6-51f3-931f-97b5a844a1cf

Meghan Markle is writing her first book and plans to become a published author.

The Sun can reveal the likely bestseller will be a work of fiction not based on her life inside the royal family.

She is currently working on possible options, with the favorite being a children’s book focusing on her love of animals, including her dogs, which will no doubt lead to comparisons with popular book series Meg and Mog.

It would seem likely any profits would be donated to charity.

MEGHAN MARKLE ‘HAS STRUGGLED WITH WITH THE INTENSITY OF THE SPOTLIGHT,’ CLAIMS ROYAL INSIDER

She follows in the footsteps of fellow royals Prince Charles, who released a children’s book in 1980 called The Old Man of Lochnagar, and Sarah Ferguson, the author of a series of books about a character called Budgie the Helicopter in the late nineties.

The move will be seen as controversial because of the Duchess of Sussex’s growing profile following her Vogue magazine guest edit and launch of a fashion line for charity with M&S.

A royal insider revealed: “Meghan is going to become a published author and is very excited about it.

“The plans are in the very early stages and won’t be formally announced for some time.

“But she’s very excited about the possibility and is passionate about the idea of a work of fiction for children.

MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY’S NEW FOUNDATION NAME REVEALED

“She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it’s very likely they will be incorporated into the story.

“Any book will absolutely not be some sort of tell-all about her life in the royal family.”

Kids books written by major celebrities have become a sales phenomenon in recent years, even sparking criticism from some in publishing who believe real writers are being cut out of the market.

Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams has become a publishing success in the UK with his books for kids.

In the US megastars as diverse as former president Barack Obama to pop icon Madonna have put our works of children’s fiction.

Meghan has faced a significant backlash this week for including left-wing political figures in her guest edit of the September issue of Vogue magazine.

Air Force veteran, 94, wins $6.5M in Oregon lottery after checking ticket one more time before tossing it

A moment of hesitation turned out to be an extremely profitable one for a former Air Force pilot who took a second glance at an Oregon lottery ticket before tossing it only to find he won $6.5 million.

William Bowker regularly plays the lotto and when his granddaughter came to visit him recently, he had her check his tickets.

WOMAN, SON ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER $20G LOTTERY PRIZE

“She thought it was a Mega Million ticket, and started circling matching numbers on the ticket,” Bowker said according to a press release from the Oregon Lottery.  “But they were for the wrong game. I had an Oregon’s Game Megabucks ticket.”

The 94-year-old veteran was about to throw out the $5 ticket when he decided to take one more look.

“I am glad I did. I immediately thought — BOOM! I won!” he said.

According to the press release, Bower opted to take the lump sum payment, earning him $2.2 million after taxes.

Bower called a family meeting right away to discuss his earnings, adding that he plans to share the prize money with his family.

“I have what I need, and I’m 94,” he said. “This is a wonderful way to help my family.”

Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher says he is still fighting the Navy despite trial outcome

The Navy SEAL special ops chief whose name was cleared in the killing of a teenage Islamic State militant while deployed in Iraq says that he is still fighting his commanders.

Eddie Gallagher and his family told “FOX & Friends Weekend” on Saturday that despite a jury finding him not guilty of murder and attempted murder last month, the Navy still “have their thumb” on him.

“They are looking at any reason to prosecute me right now,” he said. “I’ve been happy to be home, be back with my kids and wife, trying to enjoy life as best as possible. Unfortunately, we are still in this fight, but we’re keeping our heads held high.”

TRUMP DIRECTS NAVY TO RESCIND MEDALS FOR EDDIE GALLAGHER’S PROSECUTORS

Gallagher had been accused of stabbing to death a 15-year-old ISIS fighter in 2017 and then posing with the corpse for photos. A jury in San Diego found the decorated Navy SEAL not guilty on six of seven charges for his connection to the killing.

“It’s still surreal at this point. It’s hard to take in,” he said Saturday morning. “I have a lot of thoughts on the matter, but unfortunately I am still in the Navy, they still have their thumb on me.”

His wife, Andrea Gallagher, told co-host Pete Hegseth that they are still being “terrorized” by the Navy, which she said are withholding her husband’s retirement from the service.

“The problem with the system is that everyone told us to trust it. Everyone told us to trust the process, trust the system,” she said. “Well we did, we won and we’re still be terrorized.”

She added: “They are trying to take away his rank, they are trying to get his retirement, his ability to get his disability. All of these things are sour grapes because they lost.”

NAVY SEAL EDDIE GALLAGHER SENTENCED TO REDUCED RANK, PARTIAL PAY, AFTER BEING CLEARED OF MURDER CHARGES

Gallagher’s brother Sean said his brother has been vindicated, but that the Navy is “so mad they lost” that they are trying to prevent him from going home and living his life like a normal person.

“The guy has been in [the Navy] 20 years, eight combat tours,” he said. “They are going to say [that] in 10 years when you need to go to the VA, you can’t do that anymore. That is what they are holding over us now. All we want to do is retire peacefully [and] let Eddie and his family do what they have earned – live a normal life.”

This week President Trump directed the Navy to rescind medals that had been awarded to the lawyers who prosecuted the case.

“The Prosecutors who lost the case against SEAL Eddie Gallagher (who I released from solitary confinement so he could fight his case properly), were ridiculously given a Navy Achievement Medal,” he tweeted Wednesday. “Not only did they lose the case, they had difficulty with respect to information that may have been obtained from opposing lawyers and for giving immunity in a totally incompetent fashion.”

Gallagher called it an embarrassment by the Navy to award the prosecutors the medals and thanked the president for stepping in. Meanwhile, his wife praised the president for being proactive throughout the entire case.

“I think that the president has been brilliant in this. He has seen so much similarity in what he’s gone through. I think that’s why he’s been so proactive,” she said. “I think my husband has been villainized, he’s been smeared, lied about. And his own command has been consistently betraying him over this process. I want my husband home.”

Also this week, the Navy dismissed the charges against Gallaher’s platoon leader, Lt. Jacob Portier, and ordered a review of its review system. Portier was charged with covering up war crimes in connection with the Gallagher prosecution and faced trial in September.

Dog the Bounty Hunter urges store burglar to surrender: I’m ‘coming for you’

Reality TV star Duane “Dog” Chapman is calling on the person who broke into a Colorado business he owns and stole merchandise and items belonging to his late wife, Beth Chapman, to turn himself in.

He said in a statement obtained by Fox News on Friday: “The official Dog and Beth merchandise store was robbed on Thursday. Not only did the thieves take thousands of dollars of clothing, these criminals took priceless personal belongings of our beloved Beth, including tributes to her kindly left by our amazing fans. We are working with our friends in law enforcement to find these perpetrators, and are offering a cash reward to anyone who provides information about their identity. To who ever did this, you better watch out. Dog is coming for you.”

Chapman told reporters in the Denver suburb of Edgewater on Friday that he’ll ask police not to press charges if the person surrenders in the next 48 hours.

Chapman spoke outside his damaged storefront as police released surveillance video of a man suspected in Monday night’s burglary.

Chapman said the stolen items included the bounty hunting gear of his late wife, Beth Chapman, who died in June after battling cancer. But the star of the “Dog the Bounty Hunter” franchise said he’s leaving the case to police.

“The guy has 48 hours to call me and ask for forgiveness,” Chapman said.

Chapman’s business is on a busy street that borders Denver.

Police Chief John Mackey said the suspect had a large backpack, was in the store for a short amount of time and left without anything in his hands. Police believe some of the merchandise may already be being sold on online.

A passerby discovered a broken glass door early Tuesday at the business. Police Cpl. Bob Brink said earlier Friday that officers boarded the door after they couldn’t reach anyone affiliated with the business, called “Free as a Bird Bail Bond.”

Someone with the firm reported the burglary on Thursday, Brink said. The business is not open to the public.

Employees were still putting together an inventory of what was taken. Inside the store, some racks for hoodies and T-shirts were empty. A computer and cash register were dumped in a pile behind a front counter, and a “Dog the Bounty Hunter” mug was smashed in a nearby case holding mugs and books.

As Chapman spoke on a narrow sidewalk outside the store, some passing motorists yelled out their support. Chapman said he cried after touring the store and that the one thing he wants back the most is a Taser used by Beth Chapman.

Funeral services were held July 13 in Beth Chapman’s home state of Colorado.

The Chapmans starred in the A&E show for eight seasons until it was canceled in 2012. The show followed the couple as they apprehended people who avoided arrest warrants.

North Korea says Kim Jong Un supervised third weapons test this week in a bid to keep pressure on US, South Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a third weapons test this week in an effort to beef up the country’s ability to strike targets in South Korea, including U.S. military bases there.

Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency reported on the test a day after South Korea’s military said it detected North Korea firing projectiles twice into the sea off its eastern coast in its third round of weapons tests in just over a week.

North Korea said Thursday, Aug. 1, leader Kim supervised the first test firing of a new multiple rocket launcher system that could potentially enhance its ability to strike targets in South Korea and U.S. military bases there.

The tests are thought to be part of the effort to continue the pressure on Washington and Seoul over the recently stalled nuclear diplomacy. The North also objects to the planned joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises that the regime called the preparation for an invasion.

The regime’s media said Kim expressed “great satisfaction” over Friday’s tests and claimed it confirmed the system’s “altitude control level flight performance, track changing capability, accuracy of hitting a target and warhead explosion power of the guided ordnance rocket.”

South Korea’s presidential office claimed the U.S. and South Korean militaries’ assessment said Friday’s launches were likely short-range ballistic missiles.

The South also concluded that the weapons tested on Wednesday are ballistic missiles even though the North described them as a “large-caliber multiple launch guided rocket system.”

During the test on Friday, the projectile flew 220 kilometers (137 miles), according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, meaning it could reach the Seoul metropolitan area, where about half of South Koreans live, and a major U.S. military base just outside the capital city.

The North Korean regime previously said the weapons tests were a “solemn warning” to “South Korean military warmongers” in the wake of the South’s purchase of high-tech, U.S.-made fighter jets and the planned joint military drill.

The United Kingdom, France and Germany on Friday condemned the North’s recent activity as violations of U.N. sanctions and urged the regime to engage in “meaningful negotiations” with the U.S. on reducing its nuclear arsenal.

The three countries reiterated that sanctions on the country should remain in place until its nuclear and ballistic missile programs are dismantled.

In a separate report by KCNA, an unidentified spokesperson of North Korea’s Foreign Ministry slammed the three countries, saying that the regime never has and never will recognize the UN resolutions it sees as a “grave provocation” against its government.

Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter are over.

“The Hills: New Beginnings” couple split up — but they won’t have to work out a divorce settlement because they were never really married.

The couple had an elaborate wedding in Nihi on Sumba in June 2018, but a source close to the duo confirmed to Page Six on Friday that the union wasn’t legal.

The source added that they have been separated for a while and Kaitlynn is already seeing someone else.

Jenner, 35, and Carter, 30, have been together since 2014, with Jenner proposing in 2016. But their relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing, with their issues being aired on the MTV show.

“The show didn’t help,” the insider added.

“Brody Jenner & Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate,” Jenner’s rep told us Friday night. “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.”
