New York Sports Club offers no-fee gyms to customers abandoning Equinox, SoulCycle

The New York Sports Club appears to be making the most of a recent controversy involving rival fitness companies like Equinox and SoulCycle by offering no-fee gym memberships to new customers who are leaving the competitors’ facilities.

Some members of Equinox and SoulCycle have chosen to boycott the two elite gyms after billionaire owner Stephen Ross scheduled a fundraiser to benefit the reelection campaign of President Trump. The event fundraiser was set for Friday in the Hamptons.

NYSC said on Twitter — the same day as the political event — “We strive to maintain and foster all-embracing spaces of inclusion and acceptance. We want everyone to have a sense of comfortability and acceptance the second they walk through our doors.”

The gym vowed to offer free admittance all weekend, and promised to waive initiation fees to offset cancellation fees for dropping out of those competitors’ chains.

The popular gym also said it would make a minimum donation of $10,000 to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit focused on suicide prevention for young members of the LBTQ community.

Following backlash against SoulCycle, the popular stationary bike workout brand released a statement to the “soul family” distancing itself from the owner’s political event.

“We believe in diversity, inclusion, and equality,” the company’s CEO Melanie Whelan said in a statement Wednesday. “SoulCycle in no way endorses the political fundraising event being held later this week.”

The company said it has “nothing to do with the event and does not support it,” and assured riders that “no company profits are used to fund politicians.”

SoulCycle also called Ross a “passive investor” who “is not involved in the management of SoulCycle.”

Equinox reiterated that message in an effort to hold onto members and defuse a boycott.

Chicken plants raided by ICE ‘willfully and unlawfully’ hired unauthorized workers: court documents

Almost all of the Mississippi chicken plants raided by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials on Wednesday were “willfully and unlawfully” employing people without proper work documentation authorizing them to hold jobs in the U.S., according to unsealed court documents.

Federal investigators who executed the raid on seven plants in all arrested 680 people, drawing in part on informant information — in what’s been described as the largest immigration raid in a decade. (Roughly 30 of those arrested were released on humanitarian grounds, while another 270 were released after being processed by ICE, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi said Thursday.)

An informant posing as a worker at the latter of two chicken processing plants, PH Food Inc. in Morton and A&B Inc. in Pelahatchie, told Homeland Security investigators that both are owned by a Chinese man from California, Huo You Liang, more commonly referred to as Victor by his employees in Mississippi. The informant contended that Victor, as well as managers at other plants, did not follow state regulations which require employers to utilize E-Verify, a federal electronic verification system, to validate the authenticity of work documents including identification, Social Security numbers and tax information.

“The payroll companies as well as PH Food Inc. and A&B Inc. do not verify the authenticity of their documents,” the informant told investigators, according to court documents, allowing employees to use their real names supported by fake documents to get hired.

Another informant at PH Food said that the majority of the 240 employees at PH’s plant as well as 80 employees at A&B’s plant employed many Guatemalan immigrants lacking in proper work authorizations and documentation.

NEARLY HALF OF ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS NABBED IN MISSISSIPPI ICE RAID RELEASED ON ‘HUMANITARIAN GROUNDS’

In addition, investigators gathered evidence from electronic monitoring bracelets from migrants who had previously been arrested for immigration violations — thus barring them from employment in the U.S. — and noted that all seven raided plants employed these immigrants illegally.

Three members of the House Oversight Committee Friday sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr and Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan asking that, among other things, documents and information be turned over showing whether the companies involved in the Mississippi raids would be facing criminal charges or other fines and penalties for hiring illegal immigrants.

The letter, signed by panel chairs Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., requested documents on “whether any owners, employers or individuals otherwise responsible for hiring at targeted worksites were charged and the nature of those charges.”

“It appears that these DOJ and ICE enforcement actions are targeting only immigrant workers and not their employers,” the letter said.

Bringing criminal charges against companies that illegally hire workers is difficult because prosecutors must prove that the employer did so knowingly, a claim easily rebutted via claims of being duped by fraudulent documentation.

Democrats risk losing credibility with people when they continually call Republicans like President Trump “racist,” Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen argued on Friday.

“It’s like the boy who cried wolf,” Thiessen said while appearing on “Special Report.” “When you say it enough times then … no one believes you.”

The panel was discussing Trump’s reaction to accusations that he was racist and a “white supremacist,” something Democrats alleged after an anti-immigrant, mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday.

Trump, on Friday, told reporters that he was bothered by those accusations since he wasn’t a racist person. After the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, Trump gave a speech in which he denounced white supremacy and called on the country to oppose hate.

OCASIO-CORTEZ CLAIMS TRUMP IS ‘RADICALIZING STADIUMS OF PEOPLE’

Speaking outside of the White House, Trump claimed that Democrats were using racism accusations because they ran out of arguments.

More from Media

Fox News contributor Stephen Hayes indicated that Democrats could make gains with calling out the president but often took racism accusations too far.

“There’s polling that 51 percent of Americans think that Donald Trump is a racist but Democrats are always taking it one step further,” he said before noting how they called Trump a “white supremacist.”

Fox News contributor Charles Lane said that while Democrats risked alienating voters with their racism accusations, 2020 candidates could gain a lot from those arguments during the primary season.

Although Trump has called for gun reforms, Thiessen doubted that Congress would pass background check legislation. As he noted, the Senate previously rejected a bipartisan bill on background checks when Democrats were in power.

Ex-CIA Director John Brennan slams Trump amid DNI resignations: He wants ‘blind loyalty’

Former CIA Director John Brennan criticized President Trump on Friday as the top two intel chiefs resigned from their positions next week, expressing concern that the president is solely seeking “blind loyalty” in his administration.

Trump announced on Thursday that he had chosen National Counterterrorism Center Director Joseph Maguire to take over as Acting DNI after Dan Coats leaves the post on August 15. He also revealed that Sue Gordon was stepping down, calling her a “great professional with a long and distinguished career.”

Appearing on MSNBC, Brennan was sounding the alarms about the intel shakeup and suggested that Gordon was being forced out based on her resignation letter.

EX-CIA DIRECTOR JOHN BRENNAN ADMITS HE MAY HAVE HAD ‘BAD INFORMATION’ REGARDING PRESIDENT TRUMP AND RUSSIA

“When you have the number one and the number two departing the head of the intelligence community, it really does damage to the community as a whole,” Brennan explained. “And so I think Sue Gordon was trying to signal that she wanted to stay, but clearly, Mr. Trump didn’t want her.”

“Why do you think he didn’t want her?” MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell asked.

“I don’t know,” Brennan responded. “I think he wants individuals who are going to show blind loyalty to him, and Sue Gordon is somebody who will speak truth to power. I worked closely with Sue for many years. If she disagreed with something that I said or did, she’d let me know about it.”

Brennan later went on to praise Maguire’s years of service, calling him a “great American,” but questioned his “understanding of the intel community.”

Iranian woman pleads guilty in Minnesota in tech smuggling case

An Iranian woman in Minnesota on Friday pleaded guilty to charges that she stole technology from U.S.-based companies — tech that was then exported to Iran through a fake company in violation of U.S. law and international sanctions.

Negar Ghodskani, 40, and others established a front company in Malaysia to illegally obtain restricted technology from companies in Minnesota and Massachusetts, federal prosecutors said.

Ghodskani was indicted in 2015 in Minnesota and arrested two years later in Australia, becoming the subject of a long extradition fight. She entered her plea before U.S. District Judge Joan Ericksen in Minneapolis.

Her attorney, Robert Richman, said she accepted the plea agreement “because she wanted to accept responsibility and be sentenced.” He said the toll of the long legal tussle was why Ghodskani decided to stop resisting extradition, having arrived in the U.S. last month.

Under an agreement filed Friday, Ghodskani agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S., which carries a maximum potential sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss the other charges.

According to the indictment and the plea agreement, Ghodskani worked for Fana Moj, a Tehran-based company that specializes in broadcast and microwave communications equipment, and supplies microwave radio systems and wireless broadband service in Iran.

Prosecutors said Ghodskani and others established Green Wave Telecommunication in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as a front for buying restricted equipment and unlawfully reshipping it to Tehran. The Treasury Department put Fana Moj on a list of banned companies in 2017, accusing it of providing support to the powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

In July, a source told Fox News that the pair had “recently started hanging out.” At the time, El Moussa and the former Playboy Playmate were caught smooching by the paparazzi but the insider told us it wasn’t anything “serious” — yet.

Young is a luxury real estate agent featured on the Netflix series, “Selling Sunset,” so she and El Moussa each have reality TV and real estate experience in common.

El Moussa previously admitted that he was surprised by his divorce from ex-wife Christina Anstead, whom he shares two children with.

“It was kind of not something I anticipated in my life, but you know, I’ve learned a lot from it,” he explained. “I can say I’m a much better person from going through what I went through. So I wouldn’t change anything.”

Rush Limbaugh: Trump eliminated White House press briefings to stop ‘egomaniacs’ from showing off

Has the Trump administration eliminated the White House press briefings in order to block certain members of the press from getting “face time” on television?

That is the hypothesis put forth by conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh Friday.

“This is what it looks like now. Trump leaves the White House on the way to the jet,” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “But none of them are on TV anymore. He has taken that away from them.”

The White House hasn’t held a press briefing since March 11 and press secretary Stephanie Grisham has not held a briefing since she took over from Sarah Sanders.

Limbaugh believes this is a concerted effort by the president and it prevents certain media members from garnering headlines and attention as they have at past briefings.

“It’s not accidental. This has been done purposely, you know, they had these people like Jim Acosta and April Ryan and the rest of these egomaniacs showing off in the pressroom simply trying to make names for themselves,” Limbaugh said.

The radio host accused certain members of the White House press of being more concerned with television time and credited Trump for stopping any spectacle.

“Who could ask the rudest question? Who could express the greatest amount of disgust for Sarah Sanders and Trump? So they simply took it away from ’em, and this is what the press gets now. And they are not on TV,” Limbaugh said.

The Five” weighed in Friday on President Trump’s jab at former Vice President Joe Biden after the Democratic presidential candidate made yet another campaign gaffe.

Thursday Biden told a crowd in Iowa that “poor kids are just as bright and talented as white kids.” After a very brief pause, Biden quickly continued speaking, adding: “Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids.”

In response, Trump told reporters Friday that Biden “is not playing with a full deck” adding, “He made that comment and I said ‘whoa.'”

Co-host Lawrence Jones claimed many of Biden’s gaffes tend to happen around African-Americans.

“He always slips with black people,” Jones said Friday.

“The Democrats already have a problem, not with the black vote, but black voters actually showing up to the polls, even though they may not vote for Republicans.”

Jones argued that Democrats are not offering African-American voters any motivation to vote for them.

“They may stay at home because the Democratic Party is not doing a good job to get those voters,” Jones said.

North Korea again fires projectiles into Sea of Japan, officials say

North Korea fired more projectile missiles into the sea early Saturday in a likely rebuke of joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea that the North has long regarded as a dress rehearsal for invasion.

Pentagon officials told Fox News the missiles were fired from North Korea’s east coast into the Sea of Japan. The sources would not confirm how many missiles were launched.

Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the projectiles were launched from an area near the North’s east coast, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. It didn’t immediately Identify the projectiles or suggest how far they flew.

The launches came hours after President Trump told reporters he’d received a “beautiful” three-page letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The North Korean missile tests, which Trump has repeatedly played down, come amid stalled diplomatic talks with the United States on the North’s nuclear program.

So far, North Korea has stuck by its unilateral suspension of nuclear and long-range missile tests, which came during a diplomatic outreach to Washington last year.

Former White House senior advisor Karl Rove appeared on “Your World with Neil Cavuto” Friday where he said gun control legislation, particularly a background check bill depends heavily on President Trump.

“If the president backs a background check bill and he takes with him Senator McConnell, who would endeavor to make certain that that bill has enough support that it’s written in such a way that it can get 60 votes in the Senate, then it can happen,” Rove said.

Congress finds itself under public pressure to respond to this past weekend’s mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

Less than a week before those shootings another incident took place in Gilroy, Calif., where two adults and one child were killed during a garlic festival. This week the FBI announced they launched a domestic terrorism investigation into the shooting,

EL PASO, DAYTON COULD DEFINE AUGUST — A HISTORICALLY TURBULENT MONTH

Rove told Cavuto the president’s “cover” on the issue would allow Republicans to push past criticism from the National Rifle Association and pass legislation.

“If Senator McConnell thinks that he can shape it in such a way as to get 60 votes then that’s going to give… if you got a choice between the president of the United States Donald J.
