Whoopi Goldberg faced major backlash on social media after she appeared to body shame veteran singer Mariah Carey during “The View” Thursday.

Goldberg, 63, and her co-hosts were welcoming actor Jerry O’Connell, who once played Carey’s boyfriend in a music video, to set when a mic’d Goldberg attempted to quietly comment on the singer’s weight.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG REVEALS SHE ONLY GOT MARRIED BECAUSE PEOPLE EXPECTED HER TO: ‘IT WASN’T FOR ME’

“That was 20 years ago. Can you believe that?” Sunny Hostin said as the video of a 29-year-old Carey played out.

Goldberg looking at the screen behind her can be heard saying to co-host Ana Navarro “20 bodies ago,” appearing to comment on Carey’s thinner appearance.

“20 bodies ago? @WhoopiGoldberg you, yourself have changed body types MANY times. What’s this about? You’re always jumping on people to be more positive and polite and you come up in here with this? What’s got you mad today?” on person tweeted at the comedian.

Another user added “Classic video, too bad @WhoopiGoldberg had to body shame a glorious woman who has thrived through it all.”

Other viewers shamed Goldberg as poor feminst.

“@WhoopiGoldberg have more respect. Youre NOT a feminist when you point at another woman’s body,” one person wrote.

Mexican oil company offers employees ‘healthy incentive’ bonus for weight loss, report says

Mexico‘s state-run oil company is reportedly offering more money to employees who meet new body standards.

Under a new collective bargaining contract with its union, Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is giving its workers a “health incentive” of $287 a year if they meet certain body mass index (BMI) thresholds and have a waist size under a specific circumference.

To qualify for the health bonus, Pemex employees are required to have a BMI of 25 or less, while having a maximum waist of 35 inches for men and 31 inches for women, according to Bloomberg. Workers who are overweight and decrease their weight by 10 percent annually will also get the bonus.

Doctors argue Pemex’s policy could actually cause weight gain instead of weight loss because of the shame it might bring employees who can’t meet the required thresholds.

“This is an uninformed policy,” said Dr. Scott Kahan, director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness, told Bloomberg. “It’s inconsistent with the science of what we know about body weight regulation and it’s tone-deaf to progress being made in societal perceptions around obesity. On top of all of that, we have very strong scientific data now that weight shaming causes more weight gain.”

Kahan said a better way to encourage wellness is to incentivize healthy behaviors such as healthy eating, giving rebates for trips to the gym and providing healthier snacks to employees.

“There are a lot of companies big and small that are moving forward on this in much better and much more productive ways,” he said.

Mexico’s oil refineries have fallen 77 percent in the last two decades and Pemex has failed to meet output goals every year for the past decade. The company aims to increase its oil output to 2.7 million barrels a day by 2024 and will invest 58 billion pesos, or three billion dollars in its refineries this year, according to Bloomberg.

Vases stolen by Nazis returned to rightful owners in Berlin with FBI, US embassy help

Two stunning vases stolen by the Nazis 80 years ago were returned to the heirs of their original owners at a ceremony in Berlin Thursday after a joint effort by the American embassy and an FBI art crime team.

The vases, which the FBI said were worth about $120,000 today, belonged to the family of Harry Fuld, a German Jew who founded the first modern telephone system in the country, the Frankfurt-based H. Fuld & Co. Telefon und Telegraphenwerke AG.

“Finding ways to bring small measures of justice to the victims of the Holocaust and their families, even after so many years of injustice, is a priority of the Trump Administration,” Richard Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany, told Fox News on Saturday. “From the very beginning, President Trump instructed his team to be aggressive in this work. Returning these Nazi stolen works of art to their owners’ families was a group effort by the team at the US Embassy in Berlin, the FBI, German private citizens and many others.”

He continued: “We hope this one success story will encourage others to keep researching and pushing auction houses and governments to return the thousands of other Nazi stolen items on the market to their rightful owners.”

According to the FBI, Harry and his wife, Lucie Mayer Fuld, lived in Germany in the 1930s. Harry died while on a trip to Switzerland in 1932.

After the Nazis took power in 1933, the regime seized “Lucie’s bank accounts and placing an exit tax on her if she left the country. She fled Germany in 1939 with only a few of her possessions, leaving behind her home and much of the artwork in it,” the FBI said. Lucie Fuld died in 1966.

In 1940, an auction house in Berlin listed items for sale from the Fulds’ estate, the FBI said.

The agency noted that the Nazi regime “determined proceeds from the auction satisfied the exit tax they put on Lucie. The work was listed as Lot 198 at the auction, described as ‘two bronze vases, fire gilded, two-tone, French, Louis XVI, 1780-1890.’”

The vases subsequently found their way to an auction in London in 1997, and again in 2000.

“The works were eventually consigned to Christie’s Auction House in New York City. The auction house confirmed both pieces as unrestituted property through its restitution due diligence process, and worked with the FBI to secure the vases,” said the FBI.

Special Agent Christopher McKeogh of the FBI’s Art and Antiquities Crimes office in the New York Field Office played a key role in the recovery of the vases. McKeogh has more than 15 years’ experience in investigating art crime.

After he became ambassador in May 2018, Grenell doggedly pursued the successful deportation of Jakiw Palij, the last known Nazi war criminal living in America, to Germany. Sally Pipes: Socialized medicine for all is favored by Dem presidential hopefuls – Despite their denials

Health care took center stage when 20 Democratic presidential hopefuls debated in Detroit this week.

Only a few candidates pledged to implement “Medicare-for-all.” The rest proposed a variety of plans aimed at achieving universal coverage, which they claimed are more “moderate” alternatives.

Don’t believe it. Every Democratic candidate’s plan will result in socialized medicine – a government takeover of the American health care system. And if the United States opts for this system of single-payer health care, there’s no going back.

BERNIE SANDERS CLAIMS ‘MEDICARE-FOR-ALL’ WILL SLASH HEALTH CARE COSTS WITH TAX HIKE

The strongest defense of “Medicare-for-all” came from Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., the pied piper of single-payer. Sanders proudly proclaimed he “wrote the damn bill” that would force everyone into a new government-run insurance plan in just four years.

Sanders’ plan is sweeping. It promises comprehensive health care for every American, free of charge. It would outlaw private insurance. And it would cost $32 trillion to $40 trillion over its first decade.

During the debate he participated in this week, Sanders pointed to our neighbor to the north to defend his plan.  “When you end up in a hospital in Canada, you come out with no bill at all,” he said.

He’s right that “Medicare-for-all” would make our health care system more like Canada’s. But that’s a bad thing.

For one, Canadian patients have trouble gaining access to care. Canada simply doesn’t have the resources or capacity to meet the demand for treatment. As a result, Canadian patients have to get in line.

MORE FROM OPINION

Last year Canadians waited a median of just under 20 weeks for specialist care following referral by a general practitioner. All told, nearly 3 percent of the Canadian population was waiting for care in 2018.

Apply that rate to the United States and more than 9.8 million Americans would be waiting for care.

“Medicare-for-all” supporters are also wrong about what it would cost. They typically acknowledge that it would raise taxes, but downplay the severity.

Canada’s single-payer health care system is so bad that some patients and doctors are suing to get out of it.

Dr. Brian Day – an orthopedic surgeon from British Columbia – has spent the past decade leading a lawsuit that aims to overturn his province’s effective ban on private care. The provincial government has attempted to outspend and outlast Day, in hopes he’ll give up his fight.

Day’s legal battle should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks we can easily extricate ourselves from single-payer once we greenlight a government takeover of the health care system.

“Medicare-for-all” supporters are also wrong about what it would cost. They typically acknowledge that it would raise taxes, but downplay the severity. On the second night of the most recent debates, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio claimed that the premiums and deductibles American patients currently face are  “worse than any tax” that “Medicare-for-all” could bring.

As former Vice President Joe Biden put it, that’s “a bunch of malarkey.” How right Biden is.

Covering the cost of “Medicare-for-all” would necessitate a slew of new taxes. Sanders has floated a 4 percent tax on every American household and a 7.5 percent payroll tax for all employers, to name just two examples, as potential funding mechanisms.

This isn’t surprising. In Canada, the average family of four pays around $13,000 a year in taxes to fund the health care system. In the United Kingdom, that tax burden is over $6,000.

Biden deserves some credit for dispelling the myth of free health care. But his plan isn’t much better.  He is one of many candidates to claim he’ll preserve private insurance by creating a “public option” to compete against private plans.

Private plans can’t really “compete” with a public option. Since the government doesn’t need to worry about costs, it can set artificially low premiums. Additionally, most public option proposals would reimburse doctors and hospitals at Medicare’s rates, which are about 40 percent less than what private insurers pay.

As more people shift onto government plans, providers would charge private insurers more to make up the difference. Insurers would respond by raising premiums, pushing even more people onto public option plans. One study found that 119 million people would lose their private insurance after just one year of a public option.

Eventually, everyone would be enrolled in a government plan – just like with “Medicare-for-all.”

This week the Democrats unwittingly revealed yet again that they’re united behind socialized medicine. They just disagree about how fast to foist it on the American people.

The Daily Spike: A good luck letter before Canine Companions training

Dear Spike,

One week from today, we will part ways. You are heading to professional training at Canine Companions for Independence, aka doggy college, and I couldn’t be prouder.  You’re a very special dog – unlike those civilian dogs we pass on the street every day, you are a service dog in training. You are learning to become a life partner of a child, adult, or veteran with a disability, or you may work in a facility that helps many people. How cool is that?

That’s why we’ve been going to puppy training classes and working on all those commands.  That’s why I ask you to ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and ‘heel’ all the time. That’s why I ask you to walk backwards or put your front two paws up on a counter.  That’s why I ask you to lay so quietly and nicely next to my desk at work all day.

You know how I say “dress” and we put on your vest and leash? That’s your uniform you wear when you are working.  Remember how it took you a really long time to figure out how to “speak” on command? That was a tough one, but you figured it out.  I know it’s been hard, but there’s a reason we ignore the other dogs on the street – it is all part of your focused training as a Canine Companions service dog.

THE DAILY SPIKE: THE POWER OF SERVING

We’ve had a lot of fun together, too. Remember learning how to swim with that pretty black lab in the Long Island Sound? You were a little timid but as soon as you saw Gibson having such a good time you jumped right in. Remember flying to Buffalo for the first time to see your grandma who has that mean, chubby dachshund? I know, I know. I didn’t tell you, but that waddling dog bit me a couple years ago, so now we both don’t like him – but don’t tell Grandma!

Traveling to Buffalo also meant you saw your first Buffalo Bills game! And you also saw the Brooklyn Nets, the Yankees, and the Chicago Cubs play, too. We went fishing in Canada, rode a tractor in Maryland and even placed a bet at the Kentucky Derby. We took some of your fellow Canine Companions pups in training to see the New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square.

You were on TV a bunch of times with a really nice lady named Dana Perino. I know how much you love her, the way you get all excited after sitting in the control room and then meeting her after the show. You especially enjoyed when we got to hang out with her dog Jasper, one of your best friends who can be really hard to keep up with!

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER

I know people like to see puppies and dogs on TV, but you always had a special message when you went on TV with that nice lady. You were creating awareness about what it’s like to have a disability. You showed millions of people that a service dog can help someone be more independent, and perhaps even save their life. This is what you were born to do, Spike.

Here we are today, now at the point where I’ve taught and shown you all I can. It’s best for your training if we don’t see each other, and yes, that makes me sad. But it’s for a good reason. You are going to have a new best friend at Canine Companions – a professional trainer who will teach you so much more.

Spike, you need to listen to everything they say – focus and follow all the instructions! Be a good boy and study hard. You will be working all day long and it may be tiring at first, but stick with it. Go to bed early and have all those sweet puppy dreams you have every night where your legs move as if you are chasing squirrels.

While I want nothing more than for you to be a really successful service dog, it’s also possible that you weren’t meant for that job. So you also need to know it’s OK if you go through all this training and just want to be a civilian dog. You will figure it out, and I’ll be proud of you no matter what.

I will be really sad next Friday, but I will also be so proud of all we have accomplished together. So, after you get your cap and gown and matriculate, after the crowds disappear and we have to say goodbye, just remember – I love you so, so much. You are the best boy, Spike. You have been my best friend and partner. You have changed my life. And I can’t wait for you to change someone else’s.

Love,

Jennifer

An off-duty Florida police officer jumped into action after witnessing an SUV hitting the bank of a driveway and going airborne Friday morning.

Reserve Ponce Intel patrol Officer Rich Gardner was on State Road 415 in New Smyrna Beach when he saw a white SUV drift across the road before it hit a back on a driveway and go airborne. The vehicle hit some trees before landing in a ditch.

Gardner and another man ran to the smoking SUV and helped the two people – a man and a woman – in the vehicle, according to Fox 35.

FLORIDA BOY, 9, DROWNS IN CREEK WHILE UNCLE AND MOM SWIM NEARBY

“There was a female inside that was at the closest point to the door, and she was in some pain, she said she had back pain. I just asked her to grab my arm, so I could pull her out. We got her out first and then the driver ended up jumping out on his own,” Gardner said.

The police officer stayed with the pair until a nurse took over for them. He told Fox 35 that he believes they’re both going to survive.

“It’s almost surreal to see something like that,” Garner added, “You don’t expect to see something like that in your normal course of the day.”

It’s still not clear why they drifted across the oncoming lane.

Butch Robidoux, an office specialist at the Ponce Inlet Police Department told Fox News they are aware of the incident but had no comment because the Gardner was off-duty at the time.

Dramatic dash camera video shows the moment when a Georgia police officer jumped into the driver’s side window of a fleeing vehicle following a routine traffic stop on Thursday.

Dunwoody Polie Officer Nathan Daley had pulled over a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu after the driver, identified as 35-year-old Derric Simpson, allegedly violated the state’s hands-free law. According to authorities, Simpson put the vehicle in gear, attempting to flee and Daley quickly jumped into the driver’s side window.

The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu is seen in the video swerving and eventually smashing into vehicles to shake the officer as he traveled along the entrance ramp to the I-285 freeway. As he was left hanging out of the vehicle, Daley reportedly told Simpson to stop the car multiple times, but he wouldn’t stop, according to the Dunwoody Police Department.

Immediately after entering the freeway, Simpson made a sharp left turn, merging into traffic and clipping a white Ford van, which caused Daley to tumble into the middle of the busy road.

Georgia officers eventually caught up with Simpson further down the freeway after the Malibu was involved in another crash just before Roswell Road. He ditched the wrecked vehicle and fled to a forested area near the freeway, and was later taken into custody.

Simpson was arrested on multiple charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated battery, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and trafficking ecstasy, the Dunwoody Police Department said.

Daley was taken to the hospital where he was treated, released and is expected to make a full recovery. He posted a video message while draped in a hospital gown, calling the injuries just a “little nick nack”

“It does look as bad as it feels, but you know me, I will bounce back 10 times stronger,” Daley told the local community. “I love you guys, thank you so much for your support.”

Meghan Markle to write children’s book: report

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6062769626001_6062768507001-vs Meghan Markle to write children's book: report The Sun fox-news/world/personalities/british-royals fox-news/entertainment/celebrity-news/meghan-markle fnc/entertainment fnc article 9ea8d346-0bb6-51f3-931f-97b5a844a1cf

Meghan Markle is writing her first book and plans to become a published author.

The Sun can reveal the likely bestseller will be a work of fiction not based on her life inside the royal family.

She is currently working on possible options, with the favorite being a children’s book focusing on her love of animals, including her dogs, which will no doubt lead to comparisons with popular book series Meg and Mog.

It would seem likely any profits would be donated to charity.

MEGHAN MARKLE ‘HAS STRUGGLED WITH WITH THE INTENSITY OF THE SPOTLIGHT,’ CLAIMS ROYAL INSIDER

She follows in the footsteps of fellow royals Prince Charles, who released a children’s book in 1980 called The Old Man of Lochnagar, and Sarah Ferguson, the author of a series of books about a character called Budgie the Helicopter in the late nineties.

The move will be seen as controversial because of the Duchess of Sussex’s growing profile following her Vogue magazine guest edit and launch of a fashion line for charity with M&S.

A royal insider revealed: “Meghan is going to become a published author and is very excited about it.

“The plans are in the very early stages and won’t be formally announced for some time.

“But she’s very excited about the possibility and is passionate about the idea of a work of fiction for children.

MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY’S NEW FOUNDATION NAME REVEALED

“She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it’s very likely they will be incorporated into the story.

“Any book will absolutely not be some sort of tell-all about her life in the royal family.”

Kids books written by major celebrities have become a sales phenomenon in recent years, even sparking criticism from some in publishing who believe real writers are being cut out of the market.

Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams has become a publishing success in the UK with his books for kids.

In the US megastars as diverse as former president Barack Obama to pop icon Madonna have put our works of children’s fiction.

Meghan has faced a significant backlash this week for including left-wing political figures in her guest edit of the September issue of Vogue magazine.
