Former FBI Response Team member explains how authorities will process El Paso evidence

Westlake Legal Group el-paso Former FBI Response Team member explains how authorities will process El Paso evidence Nick Givas fox-news/us/us-regions/southwest/texas fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc article 9e047fbf-741e-5416-a4ad-8b48eb3e8b51

Former FBI response team member Maureen O’Connell detailed on Saturday to Fox News how federal law enforcement officials will examine evidence following the deadly shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, that left 20 dead and 26 injured.

Anchor Leland Vittert said federal authorities had left the bodies of the victims inside the store for more than 10 hours after the shooting and asked what they will have to do to ascertain vital evidence going forward.

“Part of that has to do with the trajectory of the rounds that were fired and the bodies have to remain in place until they can really get those details down in a way that can be used in a court of law. And the evidence will have to be packaged properly,” she replied.

“They’re going to have to measure the way the victims fell and try to figure out exactly where the coward was standing when he fired all of those rounds. It’s a very laborious task but it’s the most important one because the evidence has got to be done right, and the FBI’s ERT team will always do it right.”

O’Connell also said authorities will be searching the suspect’s home to determine if they can link him to the crime, but claimed the process of building an official case will take more time.

More from Media

“[They] would then go through the room and clear each room, which takes a bit of time and then when the rooms are all cleared and it’s … safe enough for the ERT team to go in, then they go in. They mark each and every room and every piece of evidence is photographed in place, identified, logged and then packaged,” she said.

“Again it’s very laborious and very meticulous. But it is really important, impactful work and the gravity of that is understood by the team and they know it’s going to be a long night. They could be in there all night long depending on what they find. If they are finding ammunition and rounds and — he could have had the whole basement to himself.”

The suspected gunman murdered 20 people and injured 26 on Saturday, after he calmly walked into the store and opened fire, Texas, state and city officials said.

The suspect has not been publicly named, but two law enforcement officials identified him to The Associated Press as 21-year-old Patrick Crusius of Allen, Texas.

Investigators have examined a manifesto that may have been written by the shooter which would indicate a “nexus to a hate crime.” The suspect is expected to face capital murder charges.

Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, and President Trump have been briefed on the shooting and are in direct contact with one another, with Trump pledging the “total support” of the federal government.

Boy, 6, drowns in wave pool at Florida water park, officials say

A 6-year-old boy drowned at a water park in Florida on Saturday after he was pulled out of a wave pool, according to officials.

Daytona Lagoon, located in Daytona Beach, said in a Facebook post the incident happened Saturday shortly before 1 p.m. when the boy was discovered in a wave pool.

The child was taken out and CPR was performed by lifeguards in addition to “other lifesaving maneuvers” before EMTs arrived at the scene to transport the boy to an area hospital.

Fox News reporter gives emotional account of victim saying his mother is dead, following El Paso shooting

Fox News reporter Garrett Tenney shared an emotional account from outside the scene of the deadly shooting in El Paso Saturday evening and said one of the victims told him his mother had perished in the carnage.

“It paints a picture for you of what this entire community is going through, including those witnesses that we spoke to earlier at the scene,” Tenney told Fox News.

“Just within moments, a son had dropped off his mother at the front of that Walmart so that she could walk in while he drove to find a parking spot. By the time he parked his car, he heard the gunshots ring out. And he got out, ran inside. By the time he got there, he said he saw his mother laying there on the floor with a dozen or so other people, dead, blood all over the floor. And all he could say to me was, ‘my mom is dead. My mom.’ And that gives you a sense of the loss and the depths of loss in this community, for so many people.”

Tenney also said there were people still searching for their loved ones amongst the chaos, specifically one family who hadn’t heard from their elderly mother after she left the house to go shopping.

“A lot of folks [are] still filled with hope that they’ll be able to find their loved ones,” he said. “There are those also who are filled with desperation, just in the depths of it, searching for answers about their loved ones. There were three women that just came here and they said they are still looking for their [87-year-old] mother … They said she left for Walmart this morning and they have not heard from her since. They are desperate for answers.”

“One of the daughters came up, just sobbing, yelling — saying ‘I just want to know where she is. I want to know if she is alive or if she is dead. Where is her body?’ A lot of folks here are in that situation. 3,000 people inside that Walmart, a lot of folks are still searching for answers to know whether their loved ones are still with them or not,” Tenney added.

Harvard Law prof accuses Trump of ‘terrorism,’ calls for impeachment after shootings

Westlake Legal Group Laurence20Tribe Harvard Law prof accuses Trump of 'terrorism,' calls for impeachment after shootings Ronn Blitzer fox-news/person/donald-trump fox news fnc/politics fnc f61bea0b-8080-57be-aa65-7853ee88384a article

Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe has a history of passionate opposition to President Trump and calling for his impeachment, and he continued the trend Sunday by blaming Trump for a pair of shootings that took place over the weekend in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

Tribe first said that Trump should be impeached for inciting violent acts, then took it a step further and outright accused the president of the United States of terrorism.

DERSHOWITZ, TRIBE SPAR OVER IMPEACHMENT: YOU’D HAVE ‘GONE APOPLECTIC’ IF CLINTONS RECEIVED SAME TREATMENT

“How many more people have to DIE violent deaths at racist hands before impeaching the president for inciting white nationalist terrorism and violence is taken as seriously as impeaching him for obstructing justice? The real national emergency is Donald J. Trump’s terrorism,” Tribe tweeted Sunday morning.

Democrats such as presidential candidates Pete Buttigieg and Beto O’Rourke accused Trump of encouraging racism, but Tribe went so far as to imply that the president may have committed high crimes or misdemeanors and should be removed from office for taking an active role in supporting racist violence.

When asked for an explanation by Fox News, Tribe did not go into any legal analysis, but said, “There is an alarming pattern of incitements that together warrant being taken seriously in conjunction with other, more specific, offenses.”

The professor included a link to a video of a Trump rally, which was meant to be an example. In it, the president was discussing migrant caravans. Trump asked what to do, and someone in the crowd yelled, “Shoot them!” Trump shook his head, then joked, “Only in the panhandle you can get away with that statement.” Immediately prior to the person’s outburst, Trump noted that “we can’t let [border patrol agents] use weapons. Other countries do, I would never do that.”

BETO O’ROURKE SAYS TRUMP’S RHETORIC IN PART TO BLAME FOR EL PASO MASS SHOOTING

The video had been posted as a reply to Tribe’s tweet, but has since been removed.

Tribe subsequently clarified by saying that he is not saying that Trump “should be impeached” for “racist incitements alone,” rather that “impeaching the president for inciting white nationalist terrorism and violence [should be] taken as seriously as impeaching him for obstructing justice.”

“It’s the pattern of abuses of his office as president that is accumulating, in my view, to a strong basis for formal impeachment proceedings beyond what various House committees are already conducting by way of investigating possible Articles of Impeachment,” he said.

In May, the constitutional law professor drew attention for comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler, saying, “the physical and behavioral resemblances aren’t altogether irrelevant.” In 2018, he focused a Constitutional Law course he was teaching on Trump and his hypothetical impeachment.

AOC aide faces Fed investigation amid resignation: report

Westlake Legal Group aa1c0969-Alexandria-Ocasio-Cortez AOC aide faces Fed investigation amid resignation: report Ronn Blitzer fox-news/person/alexandria-ocasio-cortez fox news fnc/politics fnc c5a7d964-7fb1-55f4-bad3-1d7ecfa0d267 article

The controversial chief of staff for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who resigned on Friday is currently being investigated by federal officials, a new report says.

Saikat Chakrabarti faced a complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission in March for alleged violations having to do with illegal fundraising. An investigation is currently underway, sources told the New York Post. According to the FEC, complaints only lead to investigations if there is enough evidence for them to believe there may have been a violation.

OCASIO-CORTEZ’S EMBATTLED CHIEF OF STAFF LEAVING POST AFTER CONTROVERSIES

“Upon finding reason to believe that a violation has occurred or is about to occur, the Commission may authorize an investigation,” an FEC enforcement guidebook says.

The investigation is reportedly related to Brand New Congress and Justice Democrats, two PACs Chakrabarti started to back progressive candidates. The March complaint alleged that the groups funneled more than $885,000 to the similarly named Brand New Campaign LLC and the Brand New Congress LLC — companies controlled by Chakrabarti that, unlike PACs, are exempt from reporting all of their significant expenditures. The PACs claimed the payments were for “strategic consulting.”

Chakrabarti and Ocasio-Cortez were hit with another complaint in April over accusations that they used Brand New Congress LLC to illegally provide in-kind political contributions by offering consulting services for cheap rates, operating at a loss by only charging candidates a portion of the costs.

Ocasio-Cortez has denied any wrongdoing, telling reporters in April: “It’s conservative interest groups just filing bogus proposals.”

Federal officials are also looking into Chakrabarti’s salary from Ocasio-Cortez, the Post reported. The independently wealthy aide earned $80,000, as opposed to the average of $146,830. This not only allowed junior staff members to get a pay bump, it let Chakrabarti avoid requirements to reveal outside income, which only kick in for those earning at least $126,000.

The FEC did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment, and Chakrabarti could not be reached. A statement from Ocasio-Cortez’s office announcing Chakrabarti’s departure said he was leaving in order to take a new role at the non-profit group New Consensus to help with work on a Green New Deal.

Earlier this summer, Chakrabarti put himself at the center of a rift in the Democratic Party, with Ocasio-Cortez and Reps. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib on one side, and the party’s establishment led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the other.

HOUSE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUSE RIPS AOC’S CHIEF OF STAFF FOR CRITICIZING LAWMAKER: ‘KEEP HER NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH’

In June, he criticized Rep. Sharice Davids, D-Kansas, for her votes on issues to do with the migrant crisis at the border.

“I don’t think people have to be personally racist to enable a racist system. And the same could even be said of the Southern Democrats. I don’t believe Sharice is a racist person, but her votes are showing her to enable a racist system,” he tweeted.

The caucus Twitter account reacted by saying, “Who is this guy and why is he explicitly singling out a Native American woman of color?” an apparent reference to how Ocasio-Cortez accused Pelosi of singling out women of color by making comments about her and the other progressive freshman congresswomen.

Fox News’ Louis Casiano, Adam Shaw, Gregg Re and Andrew Keiper contributed to this report.

Democratic presidential primary candidate Beto O’Rourke said on Sunday that President Trump’s harsh rhetoric toward immigrants and Latinos was in part to blame for Saturday’s mass shooting inside an El Paso, Texas, Walmart that left 20 people dead and scores more injured.

O’Rourke, a former Texas congressman whose district includes El Paso, said that he believes Trump is a white nationalist and likened the president’s language to that of Nazi Germanys’ “Third Reich.”

“Let’s be very clear about what is causing this and who the president is,” O’Rourke said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “He is an open avowed racist and encouraging more racism in this country.”

“This cannot be open for debate and you, as well as I, have a responsibility to call that out to make sure the American people know what is being done in their name,” O’Rourke added. “He doesn’t even pretend to respect our differences or understand we are all created equal. He is saying some people are inherently defected.”

A gunman on Saturday opened fire in an El Paso shopping area packed with as many as 3,000 people during the busy back-to-school season, leaving 20 dead and more than two dozen injured.

Authorities are investigating the possibility the Saturday shooting in El Paso was a hate crime, working to confirm whether an anti-immigrant screed posted online shortly beforehand was written by the man arrested in the attack on the 680,000-resident border city.

El Paso County records Sunday showed that the purported shooter, 21-year-old Patrick Wood Crusius, was booked on capital murder charges at the downtown jail in the Texas border city. There was no immediate indication that he had an attorney.

Police were investigating whether a document posted online shortly before the shooting was written by Crusius.
