Meghan Markle to write children’s book: report

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6062769626001_6062768507001-vs Meghan Markle to write children's book: report The Sun fox-news/world/personalities/british-royals fox-news/entertainment/celebrity-news/meghan-markle fnc/entertainment fnc article 9ea8d346-0bb6-51f3-931f-97b5a844a1cf

Meghan Markle is writing her first book and plans to become a published author.

The Sun can reveal the likely bestseller will be a work of fiction not based on her life inside the royal family.

She is currently working on possible options, with the favorite being a children’s book focusing on her love of animals, including her dogs, which will no doubt lead to comparisons with popular book series Meg and Mog.

It would seem likely any profits would be donated to charity.

MEGHAN MARKLE ‘HAS STRUGGLED WITH WITH THE INTENSITY OF THE SPOTLIGHT,’ CLAIMS ROYAL INSIDER

She follows in the footsteps of fellow royals Prince Charles, who released a children’s book in 1980 called The Old Man of Lochnagar, and Sarah Ferguson, the author of a series of books about a character called Budgie the Helicopter in the late nineties.

The move will be seen as controversial because of the Duchess of Sussex’s growing profile following her Vogue magazine guest edit and launch of a fashion line for charity with M&S.

A royal insider revealed: “Meghan is going to become a published author and is very excited about it.

“The plans are in the very early stages and won’t be formally announced for some time.

“But she’s very excited about the possibility and is passionate about the idea of a work of fiction for children.

MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY’S NEW FOUNDATION NAME REVEALED

“She loves animals and her rescue dogs so it’s very likely they will be incorporated into the story.

“Any book will absolutely not be some sort of tell-all about her life in the royal family.”

Kids books written by major celebrities have become a sales phenomenon in recent years, even sparking criticism from some in publishing who believe real writers are being cut out of the market.

Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams has become a publishing success in the UK with his books for kids.

In the US megastars as diverse as former president Barack Obama to pop icon Madonna have put our works of children’s fiction.

Meghan has faced a significant backlash this week for including left-wing political figures in her guest edit of the September issue of Vogue magazine.

Air Force veteran, 94, wins $6.5M in Oregon lottery after checking ticket one more time before tossing it

A moment of hesitation turned out to be an extremely profitable one for a former Air Force pilot who took a second glance at an Oregon lottery ticket before tossing it only to find he won $6.5 million.

William Bowker regularly plays the lotto and when his granddaughter came to visit him recently, he had her check his tickets.

WOMAN, SON ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER $20G LOTTERY PRIZE

“She thought it was a Mega Million ticket, and started circling matching numbers on the ticket,” Bowker said according to a press release from the Oregon Lottery.  “But they were for the wrong game. I had an Oregon’s Game Megabucks ticket.”

The 94-year-old veteran was about to throw out the $5 ticket when he decided to take one more look.

“I am glad I did. I immediately thought — BOOM! I won!” he said.

According to the press release, Bower opted to take the lump sum payment, earning him $2.2 million after taxes.

Bower called a family meeting right away to discuss his earnings, adding that he plans to share the prize money with his family.

“I have what I need, and I’m 94,” he said. “This is a wonderful way to help my family.”

Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher says he is still fighting the Navy despite trial outcome

The Navy SEAL special ops chief whose name was cleared in the killing of a teenage Islamic State militant while deployed in Iraq says that he is still fighting his commanders.

Eddie Gallagher and his family told “FOX & Friends Weekend” on Saturday that despite a jury finding him not guilty of murder and attempted murder last month, the Navy still “have their thumb” on him.

“They are looking at any reason to prosecute me right now,” he said. “I’ve been happy to be home, be back with my kids and wife, trying to enjoy life as best as possible. Unfortunately, we are still in this fight, but we’re keeping our heads held high.”

TRUMP DIRECTS NAVY TO RESCIND MEDALS FOR EDDIE GALLAGHER’S PROSECUTORS

Gallagher had been accused of stabbing to death a 15-year-old ISIS fighter in 2017 and then posing with the corpse for photos. A jury in San Diego found the decorated Navy SEAL not guilty on six of seven charges for his connection to the killing.

“It’s still surreal at this point. It’s hard to take in,” he said Saturday morning. “I have a lot of thoughts on the matter, but unfortunately I am still in the Navy, they still have their thumb on me.”

His wife, Andrea Gallagher, told co-host Pete Hegseth that they are still being “terrorized” by the Navy, which she said are withholding her husband’s retirement from the service.

“The problem with the system is that everyone told us to trust it. Everyone told us to trust the process, trust the system,” she said. “Well we did, we won and we’re still be terrorized.”

She added: “They are trying to take away his rank, they are trying to get his retirement, his ability to get his disability. All of these things are sour grapes because they lost.”

NAVY SEAL EDDIE GALLAGHER SENTENCED TO REDUCED RANK, PARTIAL PAY, AFTER BEING CLEARED OF MURDER CHARGES

Gallagher’s brother Sean said his brother has been vindicated, but that the Navy is “so mad they lost” that they are trying to prevent him from going home and living his life like a normal person.

“The guy has been in [the Navy] 20 years, eight combat tours,” he said. “They are going to say [that] in 10 years when you need to go to the VA, you can’t do that anymore. That is what they are holding over us now. All we want to do is retire peacefully [and] let Eddie and his family do what they have earned – live a normal life.”

This week President Trump directed the Navy to rescind medals that had been awarded to the lawyers who prosecuted the case.

“The Prosecutors who lost the case against SEAL Eddie Gallagher (who I released from solitary confinement so he could fight his case properly), were ridiculously given a Navy Achievement Medal,” he tweeted Wednesday. “Not only did they lose the case, they had difficulty with respect to information that may have been obtained from opposing lawyers and for giving immunity in a totally incompetent fashion.”

Gallagher called it an embarrassment by the Navy to award the prosecutors the medals and thanked the president for stepping in. Meanwhile, his wife praised the president for being proactive throughout the entire case.

“I think that the president has been brilliant in this. He has seen so much similarity in what he’s gone through. I think that’s why he’s been so proactive,” she said. “I think my husband has been villainized, he’s been smeared, lied about. And his own command has been consistently betraying him over this process. I want my husband home.”

Also this week, the Navy dismissed the charges against Gallaher’s platoon leader, Lt. Jacob Portier, and ordered a review of its review system. Portier was charged with covering up war crimes in connection with the Gallagher prosecution and faced trial in September.

Dog the Bounty Hunter urges store burglar to surrender: I’m ‘coming for you’

Reality TV star Duane “Dog” Chapman is calling on the person who broke into a Colorado business he owns and stole merchandise and items belonging to his late wife, Beth Chapman, to turn himself in.

He said in a statement obtained by Fox News on Friday: “The official Dog and Beth merchandise store was robbed on Thursday. Not only did the thieves take thousands of dollars of clothing, these criminals took priceless personal belongings of our beloved Beth, including tributes to her kindly left by our amazing fans. We are working with our friends in law enforcement to find these perpetrators, and are offering a cash reward to anyone who provides information about their identity. To who ever did this, you better watch out. Dog is coming for you.”

Chapman told reporters in the Denver suburb of Edgewater on Friday that he’ll ask police not to press charges if the person surrenders in the next 48 hours.

Chapman spoke outside his damaged storefront as police released surveillance video of a man suspected in Monday night’s burglary.

Chapman said the stolen items included the bounty hunting gear of his late wife, Beth Chapman, who died in June after battling cancer. But the star of the “Dog the Bounty Hunter” franchise said he’s leaving the case to police.

“The guy has 48 hours to call me and ask for forgiveness,” Chapman said.

Chapman’s business is on a busy street that borders Denver.

Police Chief John Mackey said the suspect had a large backpack, was in the store for a short amount of time and left without anything in his hands. Police believe some of the merchandise may already be being sold on online.

A passerby discovered a broken glass door early Tuesday at the business. Police Cpl. Bob Brink said earlier Friday that officers boarded the door after they couldn’t reach anyone affiliated with the business, called “Free as a Bird Bail Bond.”

Someone with the firm reported the burglary on Thursday, Brink said. The business is not open to the public.

Employees were still putting together an inventory of what was taken. Inside the store, some racks for hoodies and T-shirts were empty. A computer and cash register were dumped in a pile behind a front counter, and a “Dog the Bounty Hunter” mug was smashed in a nearby case holding mugs and books.

As Chapman spoke on a narrow sidewalk outside the store, some passing motorists yelled out their support. Chapman said he cried after touring the store and that the one thing he wants back the most is a Taser used by Beth Chapman.

Funeral services were held July 13 in Beth Chapman’s home state of Colorado.

The Chapmans starred in the A&E show for eight seasons until it was canceled in 2012. The show followed the couple as they apprehended people who avoided arrest warrants.

They later starred in Country Music Television’s “Dog & Beth: On the Hunt.” WGN America is in production on a new series featuring the couple called “Dog’s Most Wanted,” set to premiere Sept. 4.

North Korea says Kim Jong Un supervised third weapons test this week in a bid to keep pressure on US, South Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a third weapons test this week in an effort to beef up the country’s ability to strike targets in South Korea, including U.S. military bases there.

Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency reported on the test a day after South Korea’s military said it detected North Korea firing projectiles twice into the sea off its eastern coast in its third round of weapons tests in just over a week.

North Korea said Thursday, Aug. 1, leader Kim supervised the first test firing of a new multiple rocket launcher system that could potentially enhance its ability to strike targets in South Korea and U.S. military bases there.

The tests are thought to be part of the effort to continue the pressure on Washington and Seoul over the recently stalled nuclear diplomacy. The North also objects to the planned joint U.S.-South Korea military exercises that the regime called the preparation for an invasion.

The regime’s media said Kim expressed “great satisfaction” over Friday’s tests and claimed it confirmed the system’s “altitude control level flight performance, track changing capability, accuracy of hitting a target and warhead explosion power of the guided ordnance rocket.”

South Korea’s presidential office claimed the U.S. and South Korean militaries’ assessment said Friday’s launches were likely short-range ballistic missiles.

The South also concluded that the weapons tested on Wednesday are ballistic missiles even though the North described them as a “large-caliber multiple launch guided rocket system.”

NORTH KOREA FIRED ‘MULTIPLE’ PROJECTILES OFF EAST COAST, SOUTH KOREA REPORTS

During the test on Friday, the projectile flew 220 kilometers (137 miles), according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, meaning it could reach the Seoul metropolitan area, where about half of South Koreans live, and a major U.S. military base just outside the capital city.

The North Korean regime previously said the weapons tests were a “solemn warning” to “South Korean military warmongers” in the wake of the South’s purchase of high-tech, U.S.-made fighter jets and the planned joint military drill.

The United Kingdom, France and Germany on Friday condemned the North’s recent activity as violations of U.N. sanctions and urged the regime to engage in “meaningful negotiations” with the U.S. on reducing its nuclear arsenal.

The three countries reiterated that sanctions on the country should remain in place until its nuclear and ballistic missile programs are dismantled.

In a separate report by KCNA, an unidentified spokesperson of North Korea’s Foreign Ministry slammed the three countries, saying that the regime never has and never will recognize the UN resolutions it sees as a “grave provocation” against its government.

Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter are over.

“The Hills: New Beginnings” couple split up — but they won’t have to work out a divorce settlement because they were never really married.

The couple had an elaborate wedding in Nihi on Sumba in June 2018, but a source close to the duo confirmed to Page Six on Friday that the union wasn’t legal.

The source added that they have been separated for a while and Kaitlynn is already seeing someone else.

Jenner, 35, and Carter, 30, have been together since 2014, with Jenner proposing in 2016. But their relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing, with their issues being aired on the MTV show.

“The show didn’t help,” the insider added.

“Brody Jenner & Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate,” Jenner’s rep told us Friday night. “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.”

Andy Puzder: Trump tariffs on China are needed – he knows surrender isn’t a winning negotiating strategy

President Trump was right to announce Thursday that he plans to impose 10 percent tariffs on $300 billion worth of imports from China Sept. 1, on top of the 25 percent tariffs he imposed earlier on $250 billion in products from China.

It should come as no surprise that the president took this action to give the U.S. more leverage against our most powerful adversary. Trump has been warning China he would impose more tariffs as he tried to bend the iron will of the world’s worst trade cheater.

Trump’s warnings would be meaningless if he failed to follow through when China refused to make reasonable compromises to reach a trade deal. The new tariffs were predictable and are both measured and necessary.

TRUMP ANNOUNCES CHINA TARIFFS ON ANOTHER $300B WORTH OF GOODS

Trump could have imposed the new round of tariffs earlier, but he held off as a show of goodwill after a personal meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the recent G-20 summit.

Unfortunately, China is once again failing to live up to the promises it made at the G-20 summit to purchase additional American agricultural products. So Trump is living up to his promise by going through with the tariff increase.

While he genuinely wants to reach a deal with Xi, Trump isn’t in any hurry. He knows that China responds to pressure – and only to pressure.

After all, Trump’s strategic counter-tariffs have already brought China to the negotiating table, despite the country’s obvious reluctance to change its trade policies.

MORE FROM OPINION

While Trump is willing to sign a fair trade agreement with China, Beijing has been reluctant to end its corrupt and abusive trade practices, which have been hurting U.S. workers and businesses for decades.

Now China appears to be doing all it can to stall the bilateral negotiations in hopes that Trump will be defeated in his reelection bid next year and replaced by a Democrat who will employ less aggressive – and less effective – negotiating tactics.

The Chinese have certainly watched the recent Democratic presidential candidate debates and realize they would have an easier time preserving their unfair trading practices if a Democrat were in the White House.

South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg argued in a debate that China’s “fundamental economic model isn’t going to change because of some tariffs.”

The Chinese have certainly watched the recent Democratic presidential candidate debates and realize they would have an easier time preserving their unfair trading practices if a Democrat were in the White House.

Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado acknowledged that Trump has been right to “push back on China, but he’s done it in completely the wrong way.”

Businessman Andrew Yang argued that “tariffs and the trade war are just punishing businesses and producers and workers on both sides.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden, of course, harkens back to the Obama-Biden administration when President Barack Obama – unable to get China to cease its mercantilist trade policies – asked what “magic wand” presidential candidate Trump had to negotiate better trade deals.

There’s nothing magic about tariffs. The magic lies in having a president with the political courage to use them.

It’s hard to blame President Xi for holding out hope, no matter how forlorn, that one of the 20 Democrats on the debate stage this week will be sitting across the negotiating table from him in 2021.

But even assuming the increasingly unlikely scenario where China would face a new and less skilled or determined negotiator after the 2020 election, the question is whether it’s in China’s best interests to risk the wait.

Trump has made it clear that his stance will only harden after the election. At this point, it’s certainly obvious to the Chinese that he keeps his promises – even in the face of political risks.

While a bilateral trade deal with China remains the ultimate goal, America doesn’t need to rush into an unbalanced agreement just for the sake of ending trade tensions. We’re in a far stronger position to wait out this negotiation than China.

China’s economy is already slumping under the weight of the existing tariffs – a situation that the latest hike will surely exacerbate.

Here in the U.S. – despite claims that tariffs would end the current economic recovery and increase consumer costs – our economy remains the envy of the world. Inflation is in check, unemployment is near a half-century low, wages are surging and economic growth is continuing to beat expectations.

A skilled negotiator like President Trump knows that you should never rush into a deal, even if the political benefits are compelling. As a nation, we would eventually pay the price for a deal driven by politics rather than substance.

The president has made it clear that he wants a trade deal with China – but it has to be a fair deal. He tweeted: “We look forward to continuing our positive dialogue with China on a comprehensive Trade Deal, and feel that the future between our two countries will be a very bright one!”

Trump understands that surrender is not a winning negotiating strategy. So he’s not going to give in to unreasonable and unfair Chinese demands just to say he got a trade deal. As he has pointed out, a bad deal is worse than no deal at all.

The president’s strategy of effectively employing tariffs – despite criticism – has worked in the past and will work again. Earlier this summer, he successfully convinced Mexico to help the U.S. stop the flow of illegal immigration from Central America by threatening to implement a tariff on imports.

Trump has shown resolve tempered by restraint. He warned China that these tariffs were coming, he resisted the urge to raise them even further despite China’s pattern of deception, and he waited to implement them until it was absolutely necessary. But it was China who forced the imposition of additional tariffs by trying to renegotiate concessions it had made earlier.

The question is when China’s leaders will realize that it’s in their best interests, not to mention the best interests of the Chinese people, to make a deal now.

No one was injured after the two-story hotel was quickly evacuated, Sky News reported.

“There’s been some significant firefighting operations as you can see from the devastation,” said Neil Griffiths, incident commander for West Midlands Fire Service, according to the broadcaster.

The official cause of the fire remains unclear pending investigation, but local media reports say the emergency services were first called to a sauna fire.

“What we are trying to do is restore everything back to normality,” Griffiths said. “We want to find out what the cause of the fire is and any future investigations we can do over the next few hours.”

He added: “We are going to be here for a considerable amount of time due to the size of the building.”

Blackout in Southern California grounds flights at John Wayne Airport, leaves thousands without power

A blackout in Southern California on Friday reportedly left around 28,000 customers without power and grounded all flights at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport through 7 a.m. Saturday.

Flights arriving at the airport after 7:30 p.m. Friday were diverted to other airports and all departing flights were canceled, an airport spokesperson told The Los Angeles Times.

“People are not happy, but they’re rolling with it. They realize we’re doing the best we can,” the spokesperson said.

American rapper A$AP Rocky landed in Los Angeles late Friday night after having been detained in Sweden since July on assault charges linked to a Stockholm street fight.

The 30-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, departed Stockholm Arlanda Airport earlier Friday. Los Angeles television stations reported the artist was among a group of people shown emerging from a private airplane at Los Angeles International Airport later that night.

A$AP ROCKY TO BE FREED FROM JAIL AS JUDGE MULLS CASE, TRUMP TWEETS RAPPER IS ‘ON HIS WAY HOME’

The Stockholm District Court released A$AP Rocky, David Rispers Jr. and Bladimir Corniel until Aug. 14, when a verdict is expected. In an Instagram post that had nearly 3 million likes early Saturday, the rapper thanked his supporters and the Swedish court for him and his friends “Bladi” and “Thoto”’s release.

“THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO SUPPORTED ME DURING THESE LAST FEW WEEKS I CANT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR ALL OF YOU THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT AND HUMBLING EXPERIENCE,” A$AP wrote before departing Sweden.

“I WANT TO THANK THE COURT FOR ALLOWING ME BLADI AND THOTO TO RETURN TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT.”

President Trump also championed the news of A$AP’s release in a pun-riddled tweet Friday.

“A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!” Trump wrote.

After urging from first lady Melania Trump and celebrities, including Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West, President Trump tried unsuccessfully to negotiate A$AP Rocky’s release before trial, including a phone call with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven in July.

WITNESS IN A$AP ROCKY’S ASSAULT TRIAL IN STOCKHOLM CHANGES HER TESTIMONY

Along with David Rispers Jr. and Bladimir Corniel, the rapper is accused of beating 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari on June 30, outside a fast-food restaurant in central Stockholm. Rocky, who had been jailed since his July 3 arrest, pleaded not guilty at the start of the three-day trial Tuesday, affirming that he acted in self-defense when Jafari and another man would not leave them alone.

One of the witnesses to the assault revised her story from initial police reports, testifying Friday that she didn’t actually see Mayers hit Jafari with a bottle — a key focus of the trial. She and a friend, testifying anonymously at Stockholm District Court, both maintained that they did see Mayers and his partners assaulting Jafari, though. Robert O’Brien, a U.S. special presidential envoy sent to monitor the court proceedings, stressed that Washington was “grateful that I got to attend and observe the judicial process” in Sweden.
