Tornadoes hit Missouri, Oklahoma, as severe storms move east

Tornadoes destroyed homes in Arkansas and Missouri and also caused damage in Oklahoma as severe storms threatened much of the South over the weekend, officials said.

The national Storm Prediction Center said more than 18 million people in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma were at an enhanced risk of storms Friday, including from strong tornadoes, flooding rains and wind gusts that could exceed 80 mph (129 kph), the speed of a Category 1 hurricane. The area included several major Texas cities including Dallas, Houston and Austin.

The storms also unleashed downpours that caused widespread flash flooding. Dallas police said one person died when a car flipped into Five Mile Creek west of downtown Dallas about 7 p.m.

‘SIGNIFICANT’ SEVERE WEATHER EVENT, INCLUDING TORNADO THREAT, FOR MILLIONS ACROSS SOUTH

Earlier in the afternoon, a tornado destroyed two homes near Fair Play, Missouri, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of Springfield. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said no injuries were reported.

Shortly before 3 p.m., a tornado stripped the shingles from the roof of a home near Tahlequah, Oklahoma, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) southeast of Tulsa. No injuries were reported there either.

What the NWS described as “a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado” roared through parts of Logan County, Arkansas, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) east of Fort Smith on Friday night.

At least three homes were destroyed by the Arkansas tornado, said Logan County Emergency Management Coordinator Tobi Miller, but no injuries were reported. Downed trees and power lines were widespread, she said.

Miller said the tornado skirted her home in Subiaco, Arkansas. She said she heard but couldn’t see the rain-wrapped twister in the dark.

Ahead of the storms, Dallas’ Office of Emergency Management asked residents to bring in pets, outdoor furniture, grills, “and anything else that could be caught up in high winds to reduce the risk of flying debris.”

“Trampolines are very easy to loft into the air during high winds,” said Matt Hemingway, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Shreveport, Louisiana. “Anything outside that could be blown around could become a projectile.”

“We’re pretty much right in the crosshairs,” Hemingway said of Shreveport. “Damaging winds are our biggest concern because of the widespread nature of that threat, with tornadoes not far behind that.”

Such strong winds are a key concern in an area at greatest risk: A zone that includes parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas, the Storm Prediction Center warned. Weather service meteorologists in northern Louisiana said that such a dire forecast for the area is only issued two to four times each year, on average.

“We could see some very strong tornadoes — possibly those that may stay on the ground for some time — not just the brief spin-up tornadoes,” Hemingway said.

Tornado watches Friday night covered parts of eastern Texas, northwestern Louisiana, southern Missouri and much of Arkansas.

In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott said boats, helicopters, medical and rescue teams had been placed on standby in case they are needed.

“I ask that all Texans keep those in the storm’s path and all of Texas’ first responders in their prayers as they deal with the effects of this storm,” Abbott said in a statement.

Wicked weather also will pose a threat to Alabama and Georgia as the system moves eastward on Saturday, forecasters said.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said Friday the state was making necessary preparations ahead of the potential weather.

“At the state level, we continue to closely monitor this storm system, while making all necessary preparations,” Ivey said in a statement. “I encourage all Alabamians to do the same, stay weather aware and heed all local warnings.”

On Alabama’s Gulf Coast, Baldwin County canceled school activities including sporting events that were scheduled for Saturday. The weather service warned of flooding and the potential for 10-foot-high waves on beaches, where northern visitors escaping the cold are a common sight during the winter.

Heavy rains also could cause flooding across the South and part of the Midwest.

Many streams already are at or near flood levels because of earlier storms, and heavy rains could lead to flash flooding across the region, forecasters said. Parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana were under flash flood watches on Friday in anticipation of the drenching rains.

Actor Lou Ferrigno, who played “The Incredible Hulk” on TV, is about to undergo another remarkable transformation.

The 68-year-old former bodybuilder will be sworn in as a New Mexico sheriff’s deputy next week, according to reports.

Ferrigno became a reserve deputy with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office in California in 2012 and was a member of former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s volunteer sheriff posse in 2016 where he helped patrol the U.S.-Mexico border.

Socorro County Sheriff William Armijo, whose jurisdiction is south of Albuquerque, said Ferrigno will play a crucial role in department recruitment efforts.

Starting in 1973, Ferrigno won several bodybuilding titles, including Mr. America and Mr. Universe; he also worked as a sheet metal worker in a Brooklyn, N.Y., factory at that time, according to his website.

He is best known for his title role on the 1977-83 TV series “The Incredible Hulk,” but has also acted on other shows, including a recurring role on the comedy “The King of Queens.”

‘Remember the Titans’ star Ethan Suplee shocks fans with massive weight loss transformation

Actor Ethan Suplee is sharing his impressive weight-loss transformation with his fans.

The “Remember the Titans” and “My Name Is Earl” star has been posting photos on Instagram and is also speaking about his journey on his new podcast “American Glutton.”

In the premiere episode earlier this week, the 43-year-old explains that he had a very complicated relationship with food at an early age.

MARK WAHLBERG SHOWS OFF 6-MONTH BODY TRANSFORMATION — AND FANS ARE STUNNED: ‘UNBELIEVABLE’

“I guess the first diet I was ever on, I was 5 years old … I went to visit my grandparents in Vermont and they were kind of shocked at the state of me,” Suplee recalled. “Now, back then — this was like late-’70s, early-’80s — the fat version of me at 5 years old was probably closer to what the average is today, but back then it was startling … So they weighed me and they were just shocked. I have no idea what the numbers were but their response was not good and they started limiting my food.”

He continued: “I learned really quickly that if I wanted a second helping of lasagna when I cleared my plate, I had to eat it in the kitchen without them seeing, that I was not supposed to have that second helping of lasagna.”

“I was also made to walk every day … which was ‘exercise,’ which I hated. I did not like being put on this forced march every morning,” Suplee added.

By the time he was 10, Suplee said he weighed over 200 pounds, and his father put him on a liquid diet, but his mother took him off, and he “had a big upsurge of weight gain.”

During his adulthood, Suplee dieted on-and-off for years, experimenting with different ones.

“I lost a s—load of weight. I went from 530 to, at my lowest, 220,” Suplee said. “… At 220, I was very, very thin.”

However, he said due to his weight loss he “definitely struggled with work.” “… At some point I was like, ‘Well f—, I’m just gonna get fat again because maybe it’ll be better for work,’” he said. “And honestly, it was.”

Suplee estimates that throughout his life, he’s “gained and lost probably close to 1,000 pounds at this point.”

Fast forward to today, Suplee says that he uses “food as an energy source” and his current goal is to get a six-pack.

Pictures taken by US Special Operations forces show aftermath of strike that killed Soleimani

U.S. Special Operations forces on the ground in Iraq were following a convoy carrying Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani when it was struck by an American drone last week, killing Soleimani and nine others, Fox News has learned.

The soldiers following Soleimani’s convoy as it left Baghdad International Airport were about a half-mile behind when it was hit by a missile fired from a Reaper drone. They were on the scene within a minute or two and performed a so-called “bomb damage assessment,” taking pictures of the scene and confirming that the drone had picked out the right car — and that Soleimani was no more.

Fox News has obtained pictures of the aftermath of the Jan. 3 drone strike from a U.S. government source. Some of the images — which Fox News will not show — include graphic, close-up views of Soleimani’s body, which is grossly disfigured and missing limbs. Another photo shows Soleimani’s body burning next to the car in which he was riding.

The source told Fox News that U.S. forces dragged Soleimani’s body away from the scene and extinguished the fire before formally identifying the Iranian general. They took photos of his possessions, which included books of poetry and wads of cash. He was also carrying a pistol and an assault rifle.

Under normal circumstances, Soleimani’s phone and other electronics would be taken away for forensic analysis. However, the missile strike and ensuing fire made such an investigation impossible.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, told Fox News: “If you see a wounded veteran missing a limb or seriously disfigured the odds are pretty good they were wounded by an IED that was designed and deployed under the direction of Soleimani.”

In April 2019, the State Department announced that Iran was responsible for killing 608 U.S. troops during the Iraq War, with Soleimani responsible for 17 percent of all deaths of U.S. personnel in Iraq between 2003 and 2011.

A source who served in Iraq and saw the photos told Fox News that Soleimani died in much the same manner as the Americans he killed.

Mark Steyn on Marianne Williamson: ‘Love can’t buy you north of 0.5 percent in Iowa or New Hampshire’

Mark Steyn reacted Friday to author and inspirational speaker Marianne Williamson‘s departure from the 2020 Democratic presidential race.

Steyn noted on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that Williamson had preached about the power of love in her public appearances, and claimed President Trump had released a “dark, psychic force of collectivized hatred” that has hurt the United States.

During a Democratic primary debate last year, Williamson said that Trump had “harnessed fear for political purposes” and vowed to combat that phenomenon with love.

“I’m going to harness love for political purposes,” she said. “I’ll meet you on that field and, sir, love will win,” she said.

“Money can’t buy you love, and love can’t buy you north of 0.5 percent in Iowa or New Hampshire,” Steyn said in response.

MARIANNE WILLIAMSON WITHDRAWS FROM DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CONTEST

“Sometimes love does not want to battle Trump’s dark psychic forces on the field of fear and just gallops off across the border to live … in Canada.”

In her statement announcing that she would be suspending her campaign, Williamson said she did not want to get in the way of a progressive Democratic candidate that could win.

“With caucuses and primaries now about to begin, however, we will not be able to garner enough votes in the election to elevate our conversation any more than it is now,” Williamson wrote. “The primaries might be tightly contested among the top contenders, and I don’t want to get in the way of a progressive candidate winning any of them.”

Earlier this month, Williamson laid off her entire campaign staff. Her departure comes just weeks before the Iowa caucuses kick off the nominating caucus and primary season.

Williamson’s offbeat style, which included leading a meditation session on the campaign trial,  was the subject of much media curiosity. She told Fox News in September that “politics should be where we express our collective wisdom and that is all that finding your heart is about.”

Later in his monologue, Steyn reacted to the current state of Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s, D-Mass., campaign, saying that she was trailing in the polls, but winning “the selfie primary.”

Warren recently claimed she has taken more than 100,000 selfies with her supporters as she travels the country to campaign.

“The best part of this whole year has been doing what I do, which is getting out and doing town halls, reaching out to people. And closing in on 200 town halls,” the Massachusetts lawmaker said.

Fox News’ Alex Pappas and Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

President Trump fired back Friday at 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, who claimed the Trump administration’s “tit for tat” with Iran caused the downing of a Ukrainian jetliner amid Tehran’s missile strikes on Iraqi bases housing U.S. forces.

In an exclusive interview on “The Ingraham Angle,” Trump dismissed the former South Bend, Ind., mayor as “going nowhere,” after the 37-year-old wrote on Twitter that, “innocent civilians are now dead because they were caught in the middle of an unnecessary and unwanted military tit for tat.”

The president pointed out that Buttigieg was summarily slammed by critics for the remark, though added that the statement was “low-life.”

TRUMP TELLS LAURA INGRAHAM ‘FOUR EMBASSIES’ WERE TARGETED IN IMMINENT THREAT FROM IRAN

“He’s not going anywhere,” Trump said. “He was a lousy mayor of a place that is not doing well — [but] Indiana is doing unbelievably well.”

He called South Bend, a city of more than 100,000 people a few miles south of the Michigan line, “badly run” under Buttigieg, while the Hoosier State on the whole had “the best year they’ve ever had” in 2019. Buttigieg’s mayorship ended earlier this month, as fellow Democrat James Mueller took over.

“He’s going nowhere,” the president added of Buttigieg.

Following up, host Laura Ingraham noted that Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., made similarly pointed remarks about the president, claiming the plane crash was “collateral damage from the actions that have been taken in a provocative way by [Trump].”

The Bay Area lawmaker said Iran and Soleimani are “bad actors” but that we must “find a way to live together.”

During his interview Trump responded sarcastically to Speier, remarking “she’s another beauty.”

“Take a look at her past,” he continued. “Check out her past, please.”

A Florida man intentionally ran over a 75-year-old Vietnam veteran because he was wanted to “see what it’s like to kill,” authorities said Friday.

Justyn Pennell, 21, of the Tampa suburb of Hudson, called 911 Thursday afternoon to say he just hit a man with his PT Cruiser. He told Pasco County Sheriff’s investigators he intentionally hit the man and didn’t stop until his vehicle stopped working less than a mile away, WTVT-TV reported.

Pennell said he saw the unnamed victim, a grandfather and veteran of the Vietnam War, walking along a roadway with a walking stick and made a U-turn before accelerating and running into him. He confessed to deputies at the scene, authorities said.

“While he’s driving at his victim, he could see the look of fright on the victim’s face,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said during a Friday news conference. “This man is absolutely evil.”

“There are some cases … that make us realize there are pure evil in this world,” Nocco added. “Because of the pure evil that happened yesterday, there’s a 75-year-old man, who’s a father, a grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran, who was killed.”

He said the act wasn’t random but the victim was. Pennell faces a first-degree murder charge.

He admitted to having thoughts of killing someone for several months and left home with the intention of looking for someone walking or biking on the road to kill, according to the news outlet.

Investigators don’t believe Pennell was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident. He has no prior arrests, authorities said.

He is being held without bond in the Pasco County jail.

Sean Hannity criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Friday and implored Senate Republicans to “do your job” next week, when the impeachment trial of President Trump is likely to take place.

“Before this current month-long pause of urgency, the very dazed and confused Nancy Pelosi, speaker-in-name-only, argued that impeachment was urgent,” Hannity said on his television program. “But now, after weeks and weeks of stalling over some fantasy that she’s going to actually dictate the Constitution to the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell … Pelosi has given in.”

PRESSURE MOUNTS ON PELOSI TO TRANSMIT ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT, AS DEMOCRATS LOSE PATIENCE

“What have [Democrats] done for three years?” Hannity added. “Nothing.”

Pelosi announced Friday that she will take steps next week to send impeachment articles to the Senate after delaying the process in a bid to extract favorable terms for a trial.

Hannity advised Republicans to stay on track.

“Do your job. Your job is not to undo the mess that they’re handing you. Your job is to dismiss it because there’s nothing there,” Hannity said.  “Do not carry out Nancy Pelosi’s bidding, ‘the squad’s’ bidding. That is not your constitutional role, to hold little Adam Schiff’s hand and correct all his lies.”

The host asked the Senate Republicans to get the procedure over with and focus on issues that affect the American people.

“End the B.S. once and for all,” he said. “Get back to working on issues that will impact the lives, the safety, the security, the prosperity, the American people.”
