Pete Buttigieg says Trump has ‘very different take on faith’ than he does after comments at prayer breakfast

At a CNN town hall Thursday night, Pete Buttigieg condemned President Trump for his comments earlier that day at the National Prayer Breakfast, saying the president has “a very different take on faith than I do.”

CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked Butttigieg how he felt about Trump “mocking” the idea that some people use their faith to guide their politics.

“I mean, especially for a president who tries to cloak himself in religion, and tell believers that they somehow have to vote for him, have to vote Republican,” Buttigieg said. “I guess he just has a very different take on faith than I do, because I’m pretty sure that there’s a whole lot of scripture about the dangers of pride and arrogance and the importance of humility.”

Buttigieg later added that he “can’t imagine” why anyone of faith would be “anywhere near” Trump or “what the Republican party has become.”

At the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday morning, Trump seemingly took a jab at Sen. Mitt Romney, R.-Utah, for his outlier vote in the Senate impeachment trial.

“I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong,” Trump said, and added, in a another apparent hit at Pelosi, “nor do I like people who say, ‘I pray for you’ when they know that that’s not so.”

IOWA DEMS RELEASE ‘100 PERCENT’ OF CAUCUS VOTE TOTALS SHOWING BUTTIGIEG AHEAD, AMID CALLS FOR RECANVASS

Romney voted to convict Trump on one of two articles of impeachment — abuse of power — making him the first lawmaker in history to cross party lines in an impeachment trial debating removing a president of his own political party.

In a speech before the Senate floor Wednesday, Romney said his faith led him to the decision.

“I am profoundly religious. My faith is at the heart of who I am. I take an oath before God as enormously consequential,” he said. “I knew from the outset that being tasked with judging the president, the leader of my own party, would be the most difficult decision I have ever faced. I was not wrong.”

Romney told Fox News he “had to follow” his “conscience” in his vote.

‘YOU’RE EXTREMELY RADICAL’: PETE BUTTIGIEG FACES BACKLAST FROM PRO-LIFE WOMEN AFTER INFANTICIDE ANSWER

At the town hall, Buttigieg continued to denounce the president’s comments, given the faith-based setting.

“To see the way he conducted himself at a function whose purpose is to call us to our highest values is just a radically different way of dealing with faith than most believers that I know,” said the former mayor of South Bend, Ind.

“If you belong to a faith tradition that tells you that so much depends on how we make ourselves useful to those who are marginalized and oppressed, that so much depends on how we work to comfort the afflicted, and that so much depends on seeking leaders who walk in the way of humility and decency, I can’t imagine that requires you to be anywhere near this president or what the Republican party has become,” Buttigieg concluded.

Romney’s vote to impeach caused rifts not only between him and the president but also with much of the Republican party at large. The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) made clear on Friday that Romney would not be welcome at the conference in February.

“Your religion is clouding your thinking here,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R.-S.C., said to Romney on Fox News Thursday, before adding that he “always liked” Romney.

“All I can tell you is that God gave us free will and common sense. I used the common sense that God gave me to understand this is a bunch of BS,” Graham said.

A 21-year-old man arrested and charged with capital murder in a shooting that killed two women in a Texas A&M-Commerce University residence hall on Monday has been charged with another fatal shooting of a man on New Year’s Eve, police said Wednesday.

While executing a search warrant in the Dallas suburb of Rowlett — about 75 miles west of the university campus in Commerce — in connection with the school shooting, police in Denton uncovered evidence linking Jacques Dshawn Smith with the Dec. 31 murder of Steven Daniels.

TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE HALL SHOOTING KILLS 2 WOMEN, WOUNDS BABY, CAMPUS POLICE SAY

Authorities say Daniels’ body was found lying on the ground inside a gated apartment complex parking lot with a gunshot wound to the chest at about 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. The medical examiner’s records say he died about 40 minutes later.

Two other men were also arrested for the New Year’s Eve shooting and all three men were charged with capital murder.

Smith is also accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, 20-year-old Abbaney Matts, and her sister 19-year-old Deja Matts — a student at the university — at the Pride Rock residence hall.  Abbaney Matts’ 2-year-old son was also shot and wounded but has been released from the hospital.

Smith had been arrested a week before the university shooting and charge of aggravated assault after he allegedly attacked Abbaney Matts and threatened her with a knife. He was released from jail after that incident.

Zoë Kravitz says ‘Sex in the City’ inspired her ‘High Fidelity’ looks: ‘It was fun to see what Carrie wore next’

Westlake Legal Group 640_zoe_kravitz_466540014 Zoë Kravitz says 'Sex in the City' inspired her 'High Fidelity' looks: 'It was fun to see what Carrie wore next' Julius Young fox-news/entertainment/tv fox-news/entertainment/celebrity-news fox-news/entertainment fox news fnc/entertainment fnc article 70c6491a-da63-50c3-87ce-4380ae7a1a97

If there are two things Zoë Kravitz is well-versed in, it’s music and fashion.

The 31-year-old daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and musician Lenny Kravitz is stepping into the shoes of Bonet in recreating her mother’s 2000 film “High Fidelity,” which also starred John Cusack as Rob Gordon, the owner of an old-school vinyl record store that’s hanging on by a thread.

In the reboot of the cult favorite, “High Fidelity” has been turned into an original series from Hulu and sees Kravitz as Rob Brooks, a female record store owner in the ever-changing gentrified neighborhood of Crown Heights in Brooklyn, who uses the power of music to push her through the various relationships she encounters in her life.

ZOE KRAVITZ JOINS ‘THE BATMAN’ AS CATWOMAN: REPORTS

Kravitz spoke to journalists at the Television Critics Association winter press tour at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, Calif., last month and opened up about getting the chance to play in a similar sandbox her mother did in the original feature film and how the culmination of music and fashion helped Kravitz put her own stamp on the project.

The “Fantastic Beasts” actress told reporters that she didn’t quite have the opportunity to visit her mother when Bonet was filming the original film, seeing as the movie was shot in Chicago and, at the time, Kravitz was still a young woman staying with her grandmother while going to school in Los Angeles.

Kravitz said that in preparing to shoot the reboot, she hadn’t spoken to her mother about the project but that Bonet couldn’t contain her excitement in learning her daughter would be relighting the torch.

JASON MOMOA SHARES NSFW APPROVAL OF STEPDAUGHTER ZOE KRAVITZ’S NEW HUSBAND

“No, I didn’t talk about it so much. She loved making the movie,” Kravitz said. “She loves the movie. I’m a huge fan of the movie as well. And I think we both thought it was just a cool thing that was happening. We didn’t talk about it.”

Kravitz continued: “I didn’t talk to John Cusack. I talked to Stephen Frears a bit and I talked to [novelist] Nick Hornby a lot, he was a producer on the show and me and him would exchange playlists and talk constantly. We just became very close over the process. To me, obviously, he’s… We wouldn’t be here without him. So having his blessing and his input was really important to me.”

For her part, Kravitz was asked about her distinctive appearance in “High Fidelity” in which the singer and model sports a number of graphic T-shirts paying homage to the bands of the 1990s. Kravitz said choosing her look for her character was one of the many highlights she experienced while filming the season.

“No, I wasn’t dressing like myself. But it was important for the look of the show, the look of Rob [Brooks] to be very specific,” she explained. “’Sex in the City’ was a huge influence for me and I think the way that Carrie [Bradshaw] dresses was always… just it was almost like another character in the show and it made it so fun to watch and to see what she was going to wear next.”

“So I wanted to try and create something that had a similar effect. So it’s not like me, but I mean, I like the clothes. I would wear them,” she said.

Kravitz explained to journalists in the room that production struggled to find a costume designer with a vision that could be brought to life in the specific manner they felt was needed for the overall authenticity of the show.

“We had Colleen Atwood do the costumes, who is a legend,” Kravitz raved of the designer. “I had worked with her on “Fantastic Beasts” and we were having a really hard time finding someone to do the costumes and that was a really important element to the story and the show to me.”

“And I had called Colleen asking her if she knew someone that would do it because I knew she wouldn’t do it because she did f—— ‘Silence of the Lambs,’” Kravitz continued. “Like, you know, it’s not happening. And I called her and said, ‘Do you know someone?’ and that we need someone and it was starting really soon.  And she said, ‘I love ‘High Fidelity.’ I love you. I’ll do it.’”

Kravit added: “And we were all in shock. I remember calling you [Da’Vine Joy Randolph] and I called Scott [Rosenberg] and I said, ‘I think I found someone that you’ll be happy with’ – because he wasn’t happy with anybody – and he said, ‘Who?’  And I said, ‘Colleen Atwood, she wants to do it.’ And it got really quiet. And then he went, ‘Why?’”

Amid the laughter from the reporters in the room, Kravitz maintained that she was “blessed” that Atwood, 71, jumped at the opportunity to dress the cast, adding that working alongside the four-time Oscar-winning designer was a “dream come true.”

“Me and Colleen would go to all these vintage stores together and they would tailor their clothes to me,” Kravitz said of the 12-time Oscar-nominee.

“I stole a lot of s—,” she quipped. “I have a lot of the clothes from ‘High Fidelity.’ And then I brought a lot of my own stuff. Like, that robe in that photo was my personal robe. A lot of the band T-shirts were mine too. So we had a lot of fun with it.”

When pressed on her favorite look from the show, Kravitz surprised many in revealing she especially loved all of the various Hawaiian shirts.

“Oh, I’m really into the Hawaiian shirts. We did a lot of like, really cool Hawaiian shirts and Colleen designed this really great leather jacket that was kind of an homage to the jacket that Cusack wears in the film,” Kravitz said. “We did a Hawaiian shirt with a leather jacket with a kind of pleated school skirt, and that was really cool.”

“Yeah, I like the school uniform,” chimed Randolph.

In October 2019, it was widely reported that Kravitz would join “Twilight” franchise star Robert Pattinson in “The Batman.” Kravitz said she was excited to infuse strong female power into the flick through her role as Catwoman.

“I think femininity means power and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power,” she said. “And that’s something I think is really interesting about Batman and Catwoman. I think Batman represents a very masculine power and Catwoman represents a very feminine power — slightly more complicated and softer too. I like the idea that it can be soft and be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”

Additionally, if there was ever a question about Kravitz’s signature hairstyles — the actress said her iconic dreadlocks absolutely “made an appearance” in “High Fidelity.”

“Who let this man in the room talk about am I wearing a wig?” Kravitz joked. “You’re not supposed to ask that question.”

“High Fidelity” is set to be released on February 14 on Hulu.

Fox News medical correspondent Dr. Marc Siegel joined “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Thursday to give an update on the coronavirus outbreak following the death of a Chinese doctor who first brought public attention to the virus.

Wuhan Central Hospital ophthalmologist Li Wenliang, 34, reportedly shared his concerns about the illness via private chat with medical school graduates in December after several patients exhibited symptoms similar to SARS before he was visited and warned by authorities. He was then summoned to the local Public Security Bureau where he was forced to sign a letter stating that he made false comments about the virus, the BBC reported. Authorities later apologized.

DOCTOR WHO SOUNDED ALARM ON CORONAVIRUS DIES, HOSPITAL SAYS

“Dr. LI was telling medical school colleagues and posting online, ‘There is a new strange virus here, we have got to do something,'” Siegel said. “Guess what happened? The Chinese government sent the police to him in the middle of the night and made him sign a document reportedly [stating] that this was untrue. They suppressed it for weeks and weeks until it had spread to thousands and thousands of people. Then they had to play catch-up and of course, you know the rest.”

FOUR AMERICAN CORONAVIRUS EVACUEES HOSPITALIZED AFTER SHOWING SIGNS OF ILLNESS

The novel coronavirus has sickened more than 31,000 people worldwide and resulted in at least 638 deaths.  About 99 percent of cases have occurred in mainland China, although one death has been reported in the Philippines and a second has been reported in Hong Kong.

Siegel told Carlson that he believed the death toll to be much higher than the number Chinese authorities have reported, offering a number close to “100,000” cases.

“They roped off entire regions of up to 60 million people, causing panic, cutting off supply lines, helping to spread the virus. And we now have up to 600 deaths and I believe we have way more deaths than that and way more cases than that, probably close to 100,000 cases,” he said.

“After all, if you have a respiratory infection, they have to come to you to figure out and test you figure out what exactly it is,” Dr. Siegel added. “They don’t have the test kits there. We have them here in the United States, but they don’t have them there.”

Iowa Dems release ‘100 percent’ of caucus vote totals showing Buttigieg ahead, amid calls for recanvass

Westlake Legal Group AP20037709268239-1 Iowa Dems release '100 percent' of caucus vote totals showing Buttigieg ahead, amid calls for recanvass Gregg Re fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox news fnc/politics fnc dbb42a4b-b3cd-54e7-a656-772a549a322a article

The Iowa Democratic Party announced that 100 percent of precincts were finally reporting results late Thursday night — 72 hours after the state’s first-in-the-nation caucuses concluded on Monday, and after numerous irregularities led the head of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to call for a complete recanvass.

The state party’s numbers showed that Pete Buttigieg would be awarded 564.012 SDEs, or state delegate equivalents, while Bernie Sanders would receive 562.497 SDEs. Sanders held a sizeable popular vote lead, though, and finished ahead of Buttigieg by a 43,671 to 37,557 vote margin. He fell behind in delegates due to Iowa’s unusual voting system that gave different delegate weights to different precincts.

After the “second alignment” — meaning the popular vote after the elimination of candidates who received fewer than 15 percent of the vote in the first round of caucusing — Sanders was still ahead of Buttigieg, 45,826 votes to 43,195.

Nevertheless, as the results posted, Buttigieg was speaking on-stage at a CNN town hall, and anchor Chris Cuomo suggested the former South Bend, Ind. mayor had won the caucuses by delegate count.

“That is fantastic news,” Buttigieg said. “We are looking to New Hampshire and beyond.”

But Sanders, minutes earlier and throughout the day, had said he won the race.

VIEW THE STATE DELEGATE TOTALS

The disastrous caucuses drew mockery from President Trump earlier in the day, as he openly suggested in the East Room of the White House that Democrats cannot be trusted to run the nation’s health care system if they cannot even count votes in a timely and reliable manner.

Elizabeth Warren finished with 387 SDEs, Joe Biden with 341, Amy Klobuchar with 264, and Andrew Yang with 22. By popular vote, Warren had 32,533 votes after the first round of caucusing and 34,771 after the second; Biden had 26,384 after round one and 23,691 after round two; and Klobuchar had 22,469 after round one and 21,181 after round two. Yang plummeted from 8,821 in the first round to 1,780 in the second.

Those numbers were catastrophic for Biden, who has run his campaign on the notion that he is the most electable candidate.

At the same time, it remained unclear whether the results would stand, or whether there could be more changes. DNC head Tom Perez earlier Thursday called for a “recanvass” of the results of the Iowa caucuses, saying it was needed to “assure public confidence” after three days of apparent technical issues, irregularities in vote counting, and delays.

”Enough is enough,” Perez wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, The Associated Press said Thursday that it is unable to declare a winner of Iowa’s Democratic caucuses.

“The Associated Press calls a race when there is a clear indication of a winner. Because of a tight margin between former Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Bernie Sanders and the irregularities in this year’s caucus process, it is not possible to determine a winner at this point,” said Sally Buzbee, AP’s senior vice president and executive editor.

The caucus crisis was an embarrassing twist after months of promoting Iowa as a chance for Democrats to find some clarity in a jumbled 2020 field. Instead, after a buildup that featured seven rounds of debates, nearly $1 billion spent nationwide and a year of political jockeying, caucus day ended with no winner and no official results.

Campaigning in New Hampshire, Sanders called the Iowa Democratic Party’s management of the caucuses a “screw-up” that has been “extremely unfair” to the candidates and their supporters.

“We’ve got enough of Iowa,” he said later Thursday at a CNN town hall, just before Buttigieg spoke. “I think we should move onto New Hampshire.”

Fox News’ Mitti Hicks and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Talking cat asks owner ‘Are you coming?’ in viral TikTok video

The only thing better than a sassy cat is a talking sassy cat.

TikTok video purporting to show a cat asking its owner, “Are you coming?” has gone viral, and admittedly it’s hard to believe.

‘WORLD’S WORST CAT’ GETS ADOPTED AFTER VIRAL AD

TikTok user and cat owner Ike Tommy got quite the surprise as he was recording his pet kitty in the bathroom. In the video, the cat appears to meow as she waits for her owner to return to the other room.

In what sounds exactly like a human person, the cat apparently asks Tommy if he’s coming. The occurrence is so shocking, Tommy walks over to the feline to get a better view on the camera.

“What did you just say?” Tommy asked the cat.

Unsurprisingly the video went viral and has been viewed 1.8 million times on TikTok.

TikTokers couldn’t get enough of the talking cat video, which has also garnered nearly 19,000 comments.

“And this is a proof that animals can talk,” a TikTok user commented.

“She tried playing it off with a meow,” another person wrote.

One TikTok user said, “THAT’S SO SCARY BUT CUTE,” while another wrote, “Lmao. She even looked like she was busted. Broke cat code.”

Some users said they thought it was a baby talking before they realized the words were actually coming from the kitten. Others who own cats said they could attest to the fact that cats can indeed talk like humans.

“Dude, I swear cats CAN talk if they WANT to! My cat would say/howl “Noo, Noo, Noo!” during bathtime and other phrases too at different times,” one person commented.

Another TikTok user offered maybe a more rational explanation for what transpired. “Cats actually do mimic our voices to communicate with us,” a TikTok user wrote.

Christine Pelosi says mother’s shredding of State of the Union speech was ‘an Italian grandma move’

Democratic strategist Christine Pelosi — daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., weighed in on her mother’s ongoing feud with President Trump after Nancy Pelosi demonstratively ripped up her copy of the president’s speech at the conclusion of his State of the Union address Tuesday.

“I had no idea she was going to do that,” the junior Pelosi told “The Story” Thursday.

“In watching… her reaction to that speech, I thought to myself, that’s an ‘Italian grandma move.'”

“In watching that, her reaction to that speech, I thought to myself, that’s an ‘Italian grandma move,'” Pelosi continued. “I saw my grandmother do that years ago in her kitchen when there was a guest at my grandfather’s house … who was rude. She picked up the person’s plate without comment, we heard a crashing sound. She threw the plate away, sat down and didn’t say another word.”

PELOSI THROWS SHADE AT TRUMP DURING STATE OF THE UNION, RIPS SPEECH

Pelosi’s comments came just hours after her mother continued to rail against Trump’s State of the Union address Thursday morning, suggesting that he appeared to be “sedated” in the latest tit-for-tat between the two political titans.

Earlier Thursday, Trump held up a copy of USA Today that bore a blaring “Acquitted” headline at the National Prayer Breakfast mere feet from Pelosi.

Pelosi, the author of “The Nancy Pelosi Way: Advice on Success, Leadership, and Politics From America’s Most Powerful Woman,” said her mother was reacting to a speech filled with things she “knew to be untrue,” but MacCallum questioned whether policy differences warranted the dramatic reaction.

“There’s always presidents that stand up there and talk about their policies, always people in the audience, including Speakers of the House of the opposite party, that don’t agree … they have different views on the way to fix healthcare in this country. Doesn’t mean that you rip up the speech.,” MacCallum said.

MacCallum also pressed Pelosi on her mother’s earlier statement that impeaching Trump would risk furthering the divide in the country, pointing to the latest Gallup poll which reported the highest approval ratings for the president since he was elected in 2016.

“It’s more heavily weighted for Republicans now,” Pelosi responded, and [for] the people that decided to go through with impeachment, it’s not about the polls, it’s about the truth, this is about finding the truth and this is about making sure that we say Article II [of the Constitution] constrains the president. Doesn’t mean he can do whatever he wants.”

Asked whether she believes her mother made a mistake by pursuing impeachment, Pelosi maintained her support and said the public will render the ultimate verdict in November.

“It’s not a mistake to stand up for America.”It’s not a mistake to stand up for the truth …,” she said. “Point is, whether it is or isn’t, the most important poll will be on Election Day in November.”

Hundreds of illegal aliens re-arrested after California jail failed to notify ICE of their release

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported on Wednesday that hundreds of Orange County Jail inmates on whom the agency had active detainers were re-arrested over the past two years on charges including rape, assault with a deadly weapon and child sex offenses — after local authorities released them without notifying ICE.

According to county data, officials at the Southern California jail didn’t notify ICE when it released 2,121 inmates with detainers on them over 2018 and 2019. Over that same period, another 1,315 were released “to ICE upon completion of their local sentences in accordance with” California’s sanctuary regulations laid out in Senate Bill 54, an ICE press release said.

According to ICE, 411 of the released inmates have been rearrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on additional charges, which also include domestic violence, identity theft, and driving under the influence.

The agency’s statement noted that number does “not account for individuals who may have been released and committed crimes in other jurisdictions.”

ICE CALLS OUT ILLINOIS COUNTY FOR RELEASING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS

Senate Bill [SB] 54, which became law in 2017, prohibits state and local law enforcement agencies from detaining illegal immigrants for violating immigration laws except in cases where they have been convicted of serious or violent felonies.

Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Don Barnes has called the policy a “social science experiment” undertaken by lawmakers in Sacramento.

“SB 54 has made our community less safe,” he said in a statement. “The law has resulted in new crimes because my deputies were unable to communicate with their federal partners about individuals who committed serious offenses and present a threat to our community if released.

“The two-year social science experiment with sanctuary laws must end. Rather than protect our immigrant community, the law has enabled offenders to be released, often times [sic] back into the immigrant communities they prey upon, and create new victims.”

Democratic politicians have argued that sanctuary laws help deter crime by building trust between law enforcement and immigrant communities. But according to Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence, those policies “do nothing but ensure that criminals are released back into the community, where many re-offend, instead of being turned over to ICE.”

“These are preventable crimes, and more importantly, preventable victims. As the data released by Sheriff Barnes clearly demonstrates, all communities are safer when local law enforcement works with ICE,” he added.

Last month, ICE similarly called out Cook County, Ill., accusing local authorities of denying more than 1,000 detainer requests. Those cases included the release of a South African national who was accused of indecent exposure and a Nicaraguan national who was arrested on charges of domestic violence.

Sanctuary policies have long been controversial but the issue resurfaced in January when 21-year-old Guyanan Reeaz Khan allegedly raped and killed 92-year-old Maria Fuertes after his release from a New York jail.

ICE claims it issued a detainer request for Khan after authorities arrested him for assaulting his own father. According to the New York Daily News, the NYPD denied receiving a detainer after that first assault.

People magazine previously reported that Beatrice and Mozzi will tie the knot on May 29 at a location that is yet to be announced.

The wedding will happen following Queen Elizabeth II’s palace garden parties, which traditionally are held in mid-May, and Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, are expected to attend at least one of the queen’s events.

The outlet reported on Wednesday that the royal reception is likely to take place at Buckingham Palace. Furthermore, Beatrice and Mozzi’s wedding is said to be a “low-key” affair, an insider told People, adding that the pair have longed for a tame event from the get-go. It was also previously reported that British broadcasters BBC and ITV would not be broadcasting Beatrice’s big day like they did for her sister, Princess Eugenie, in 2018.
