Bindi Irwin shares tribute video to late father Steve: ‘Love lasts forever’

Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin, in honor of Australia’s Father’s Day on September 1.

The 21-year-old conservationist shared a sweet video on Instagram depicting her late dad, who died in 2006 after a long-running career of championing environmental causes and educating viewers on animals.

The video features a montage of footage of Steve and Bindi’s mother Terri playing with her as a child and introducing her to the world of animals. She giggles as her father, also known as The Crocodile Hunter, pretends to wrestle a stuffed snake and croc.

BINDI IRWIN DESCRIBES HEARTBREAK AFTER DAD’S PASSING: ‘IT’S LIKE LOSING A PART OF YOUR HEART’

“It’s Father’s Day here in Australia,” Bindi wrote. “Reflecting on these wonderful moments. Hug the people in your life who bring light to your heart and always remember that love lasts forever.”

This isn’t the first time this year that Bindi has paid tribute to her late father on social media. After announcing her surprise engagement to her boyfriend of six years, Chandler Powell, she posted a note about her brother, Robert, walking her down the aisle in the future.

“Dad, You would be so incredibly proud of Robert,” she wrote on Instagram. “He has been such an amazing support during this beautiful new life chapter. I know you’d be beaming with pride when the time comes that he walks me down the aisle. I wish you could be here for these moments, but I know that your spirit lives on in us.”

BINDI IRWIN: MY PURPOSE IN THIS WORLD IS TO INSPIRE OTHERS

Bindi previously told Entertainment Tonight that, in addition to amending the tradition of having her dad walk her down the aisle, she’s planning to change the traditional father-daughter-dance to a mother-daughter-dance with Terri.

“I think, if I was going to do a dance, it would be with my mom,” she shared. “My mom and I are so close. She’s my pillar of strength in life and I love her beyond description.

“So I think, when the time comes, Robert will walk me down the aisle, [Chandler and I] will have our wonderful moment and I’ll have my dance with mom,” Bindi added. “I think that would be wonderful.”

Scott Gunn: On Labor Day and every day, honoring workers honors God

Westlake Legal Group ContentBroker_contentid-0fc615af670843c0bbcbfcd52e82a7a5 Scott Gunn: On Labor Day and every day, honoring workers honors God Scott Gunn fox-news/us/religion/christianity fox-news/us/economy fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc article 775c69ac-959f-53c7-9cef-76c919a765a1

Since it became a federal holiday in 1894, Labor Day has honored the labor union movement, American workers and the important work they do. As a Christian, I believe that God has given each person a unique vocation – an appointed kind of work. Honoring workers honors the work that God gives us.

Economists and politicians have a special interest in Labor Day. But so too do religious leaders. My interest is not partisan maneuvering or enrichment, but rather celebrating the dignity of work itself.

I believe that God calls each person to particular work. Some are called to be parents, others to be firefighters or factory workers, while still others are meant to be doctors or lawyers.

JOCKO WILLINK: WITHOUT AMERICAN WORKERS, WE WOULDN’T HAVE OUR FREEDOM – BE THANKFUL FOR THEM ON LABOR DAY

When priests like me use words like “vocation” only to talk about the call to ordained ministry, we do a disservice to other workers. The plumber can do God’s work as well as the teacher or the priest.

More from Opinion

When we see things this way, it means that we will naturally want to encourage all people to find the thing that they are called to do. It also means we can see every kind of work as holy and important.

Thinking this way keeps me from believing that I’m better or worse than others. Seeing all work as holy and important ensures that I will be grateful for all those whose work supports others.

While Labor Day is a modern holiday, the idea of honoring work and workers is ancient. There are teachings in the Bible on this topic that are especially relevant today.

There is a flip side to seeing all work as holy and important. We need to treat all workers with dignity. It doesn’t do much good to say that factory workers are important and then to treat them poorly.

Labor Day is thus not just a celebration of workers, but also a call to action. We must each do our part to ensure that all workers are treated with dignity and that their work is honored and valued.

In this way, the connection between this holiday and the labor movement makes a lot of sense. This is a day to give thanks for workers and for all who strive to improve the conditions of workers.

While Labor Day is a modern holiday, the idea of honoring work and workers is ancient. There are teachings in the Bible on this topic that are especially relevant today.

Jesus teaches in Luke 3: “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages.”

This warning came to tax collectors, who often abused their position to take advantage of others, but it surely applies to all workers. Refraining from dishonest business practices is a Christian precept.

Jeremiah 22 warns: “Woe to him who builds his house on wrongdoing, his roof-chambers on injustice; Who works his neighbors without pay, and gives them no wages.” This teaches us that we cannot claim to be righteous people of faith and also rob others of their wages or mistreat workers.

In the Ten Commandments (Deuteronomy 5), God orders us to work six days and keep one day as a day of rest. God’s desire is that all people set aside time for rest and re-creation. In our culture, we’re all busy all the time. This goes against what God asks us to do.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR OPINION NEWSLETTER

Obeying the commandment to rest requires that some basic conditions be met first. Too many people are not paid a living wage, and so they must work ceaselessly. Calling for a living wage supports the divinely appointed time of rest that God asks of us.

So today, let us give thanks for our own work and for the work of others. I hope each one of us will pray for guidance. Are we doing the work God has in mind for us? And are we doing what we can to dignify the work of others?

There is a beautiful prayer for workers in The Book of Common Prayer used by the Episcopal Church. We often say this prayer at bedtime. I love how it acknowledges that each one of us depends on the work of others.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Here is the prayer: “O God, your unfailing providence sustains the world we live in and the life we live: Watch over those, both night and day, who work while others sleep, and grant that we may never forget that our common life depends upon each other’s toil; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Work is holy. Workers are holy people. This day, let us see the connections between our lives and the work of others. Let us honor workers and honor God.

Boy, 11, survives near-fatal fall off bike, being run over by semi-truck: ‘I’m thankful to God’

A week after being run over by a semi, an 11-year-old boy is thanking God he can go home.

Emilio Corrales, who also goes by “Mio,” is recovering at the Wesley Medical Center after being hit by a semi after falling off his bike, Aug. 23 northbound on U.S. 83 Business, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Emilio, an avid wrestler in Colorado, got a visit from the Carroll Wrestling Club that brought him gifts and words of encouragement Sunday.

The 11-year-old’s father, Oscar Corrales, started a GoFundMe to help cover the medical expenses called “Little Man Emilio aka Mio” with the goal of raising $20,000.

“I’m a single father trying to raise a little money for helping some of this medical stuff and bills and for Emilio transportation,” Corrales, whose heart was shattered week earlier after his son’s incident, wrote on the page.

He thanked God multiple times in a lengthy Facebook post, also thanking as many people as he could from EMTs to hospital staff to prayer warriors, noting the miracle that his son went from being hit by a semi with a fractured skull, fractured scapula, torn ACL and shoulder muscles, yet sent home a week later and expected to make a full recovery.

Count on hurricanes to spark storms of online misinformation

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6082610079001_6082606197001-vs Count on hurricanes to spark storms of online misinformation fox-news/science/planet-earth/natural-disasters/hurricane-dorian fnc/science fnc Associated Press article 227eac02-c627-5c66-ab5c-3267a81b7c0e

The names of hurricanes may change, but one thing seems to stay the same: Misinformation spreads quickly during these dangerous storms.

Hurricane Dorian, an extremely powerful Category 4 storm that has brought misery to the Bahamas since making landfall Sunday, is expected to be no different.

Here’s a sampling of false information, fabricated photos and hoaxes that have accompanied other big name hurricanes. While some of the misleading information — much of which is spread on social media — may be lighthearted, it can also create confusion or lead to dangerous situations.

CLAIM: All shelters and hotels are required to take in pets.

THE FACTS: It depends on the shelter. Before heading to a shelter or hotel, check to make sure that they allow pets. However, the Americans with Disabilities Act does require that hotels and shelters take in service animals, according to FEMA.

CLAIM: Keeping a window slightly open will prevent wind pressure from breaking them.

THE FACTS: This is false. All doors and windows should be kept closed so debris doesn’t come in, according to NOAA. Windows should be boarded up with plywood, not taped.

CLAIM: Generators can be used indoors.

THE FACTS: A portable generator should never be turned on indoors, even if doors and windows are open. Generators release carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says to keep a generator at least 20 feet away from the house. Don’t refill the generator with gasoline while it’s still turned on.

CLAIM: Immigrations and Customs Enforcement along with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials check for citizenship status at shelters.

THE FACTS: FEMA rebutted this claim during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. During Harvey, ICE and CBP released a statement stating that routine noncriminal immigration enforcement operations would not be conducted at evacuation sites or at shelters or food banks.

An ICE spokesman told The Associated Press in an email that the statement holds true for Dorian.

“Despite false rumors to the contrary, ICE does not conduct immigration enforcement operations at hurricane evacuation sites or shelters, such as during and immediately after hurricanes,” he said.

CLAIM: Don’t remove wet carpeting and flooring until FEMA assesses it.

THE FACTS: Cleaning up after the storm won’t stop you from receiving FEMA assistance. Take photos and video of damaged property for FEMA, and clean up as soon as possible to prevent mold.

Probably the most popular image to circulate on social media when there is a storm or flooding is a manipulated image of a shark swimming in a flooded roadway by a car. And by Thursday, such an image was being floated on Facebook.

Hong Kong students skip first day of school to hold anti-government protests

In the latest installment of the unrest convulsing Hong Kong, thousands of students bypassed the first day of the new school term on Monday to join the quest for democratic reforms.

An estimated 30,000 students from both high schools and universities united at the Chinese University – donning helmets, masks, goggles, and signs including “Reclaim Hong Kong,” “Boycott for Freedom,” and “Chief Executive: Are you willing to listen to the voices of the little sisters from your school?”

Moreover, hundreds of school students took to the streets in the central business district, encircled by riot police. Authorities also apprehended protests attempting to impede train doors amid the Monday morning peak hour rush.

The student-driven demonstrations come on the heels of yet another tense weekend in Hong Kong, in which tens of thousands continued their protest against the administration, led by the embattled Carrie Lam.

Lam admitted during a closed meeting with business leaders – according to audio obtained by Reuters – that she would step down if given the option.

“If I have a choice, the first thing is to quit,” she reportedly said. “Having made a deep apology.”

However, Beijing has maintained its firm support for Lam in what many analysts deem to be China’s most significant political impasse since the Tiananmen Square upheaval of 1989.

Protracted demonstrations have gripped Hong Kong – a special administrative region under China’s umbrella –  since June. The chaos erupted after Lam’s administration put forward legislation that would give mainland China the power to extradite suspected criminals to face trial in their courts.

While the proposed law was suspended, the anti-government protests have only burgeoned – marred with distrust toward Lam and demands that the entire proposal is withdrawn. Lam, under pressure from her Beijing backers, has so far refused.

The view from Beijing is that the “masked radicals” have brought “chaos and vandalism” to Hong Kong, according to South China Morning Post, embarking on illicit and violent tirades to force leaders to “cower” to their demands.

A Labor Day parade in New Jersey was canceled early Monday after small explosive devices were found on a property along the route that Gov. Phil Murphy was expected to march, a report said.

The Borough of South Plainfield canceled the parade mere hours before it was set to kick off over “a security concern,” the borough tweeted. The fireworks show and 5k run were also canceled. Officials didn’t immediately offer further details.

The multiple explosive devices were found in a wooded area on an unidentified man’s property, a senior law enforcement official told WNBC-TV. There was no sign that any of the dozen devices investigators located had been planted, another law enforcement source told the station.

The sources described the individual as an older man who may have been living in his parent’s basement. He was taken into police custody, the station reported.

Actress Salma Hayek showed off her physique with a fun beach snap to celebrate her 53 birthday.

On Monday the actress seemingly wanted to commemorate the occasion by showing off her body and how well it looks after all these years. The “Frida” star took to Instagram where she posed on the beach in a blue bikini that showed off her curves. In the snap, she stands with her hands on her hips and a confused look on her face as she appears to be talking to her photographer.

THE LOVELY AND TALENTED SALMA HAYEK

“Yes, tomorrow I’m 53,” she wrote in both English and Spanish in the photo’s caption.

This is hardly the first time the star has been candid about showing off her body to highlight the complete lack of work she’s had done to maintain her looks after all these years.

SALMA HAYEK THROUGH THE YEARS, ALWAYS A BEAUTY

She previously told Town & Country in March that her good looks have absolutely nothing to do with any kind of plastic surgery.

“I haven’t done an-y-thing,” she admitted at the time. “I don’t know how to explain it.”

The Oscar-nominee also credits her success in life and her career with being a late bloomer. Hayek didn’t marry until she was 39 and didn’t become a mother to daughter Valentina until 41.

“I think I’m a better mother because I had her later. But I do get tired, I’m not going to lie,” she admitted. As for her marriage to billionaire fashion mogul François-Henri Pinault, she called him “the best husband in the world.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, took actress and liberal activist Alyssa Milano to task over her faith-based question about the Bible and the Second Amendment.

On Sunday, Milano responded to Republican Texas state Rep. Matt Schaefer’s tweet that he was “NOT going to use the evil acts of a handful of people to diminish the God-given rights of my fellow Texans. Period. None of these so-called gun-control solutions will work to stop a person with evil intent” following a shooting rampage in Odessa that killed seven and injured at least 22.

KANSAS UNIVERSITY FACULTY WANTS CHICK-FIL-A BANNED FROM CAMPUS FOR FEARS OF ‘SAFETY,’ ‘MENTAL WELL BEING’

“Can someone cite which passage of the Bible God states it is a god-given right to own a gun?” Milano asked in a tweet, accusing the Texas politician of being “unbelievable and clearly owned by the gun lobby.”

Cruz responded, telling the anti-gun activist, it was an “excellent” question, “worth considering [without] the snark of Twitter,” before citing a few examples from the Bible.

“It is of course not the right to a modern-day firearm that is God-give [sic] but rather the right to Life & the right to Liberty. Essential to that right to life is the right to DEFEND your life & your family,” the Texas conservative began.

CELEBRITIES CALL FOR GUN CONTROL AFTER TEXAS SHOOTING: ‘WE HAVE A CRISIS HERE’

“The right to self-defense is recognized repeatedly in the Bible,” Cruz wrote, for example, “Exodus 22:2: ‘If a thief is caught breaking in at night & is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.’ (Note, though, verse 3 says it IS murder if during daylight (ie, not self-defense).”

Pointing to the “unalienable rights” of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” within the Declaration of Independence, Cruz says it is “for that reason, the Second Amendment provides ‘the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, SHALL NOT be infringed.'”

He says it wasn’t put in place to protect hunting or target practice but “to defend their lives, their homes & their families,” citing Stephen Willeford who helped stop the shooter in the 2017 Sutherland Springs church massacre.

Cruz, in his 10-tweet reply, added that “disarming Black Americans was a critical objective of the KKK, and was memorialized in countless Jim Crow laws—to strip African-Americans of their God-given right to self-defense from violence.”

He says he’s leading the fight in the Senate “to do MUCH more to stop violent criminals & those w/ dangerous mental illness BEFORE they murder.”

“Playing politics w/ these deranged crimes—and trying to use them as an excuse to violate the constl [sic] rights of law-abiding citizens—won’t make anybody safer,” Cruz concluded. “Forcible gun confiscation (as some 2020 Dems urge) won’t prevent mass-murders. But it would weaken our self-defense.”

Milano responded early Monday morning, saying she’d “love to come in and meet” Cruz when she is in Washington, D.C. next week.

“We can live-stream the meeting so the American people can hear your bullsh*t 1st hand,” she said, adding she’d like to talk about 1 Peter 4:8, which says: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

Beto O’Rourke repeated his pledge to initiate a mandatory buyback of assault weapons if he is elected president.

O’Rourke was asked Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, how he would address the fears of some Americans that the government would take away their assault weapons.

“I want to be really clear that that’s exactly what we are going to do,” the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate said. “Americans who own AR-15s, AK-47s, will have to sell them to the government. We’re not going to allow them to stay on our streets, to show up in our communities, to be used against us in our synagogues, our churches, our mosques, our Walmarts, our public places.”

“All countries have video games. All countries struggle with mental health. All countries deal with hatred. But only America has more guns than human beings — 390 million firearms in a country of 329 million people — which kill nearly 40,000 people every year,” he wrote. “That’s why, as president, I would institute a mandatory buyback of every assault weapon in America.”

The former Texas congressman has made gun control a focal point of his campaign since the mass shooting.

Instagrammers have ruined California’s super-bloom

Leave it to Instagrammers to ruin something else.

The owners of tourist attraction Daffodil Hill have taken to Facebook to announce that they are closing the California super bloom hot spot indefinitely, noting a lack of infrastructure to handle the hordes of people who flocked to see the flowers.

“This decision is the most difficult that we, as a family, have ever made,” the Ryan family, who owns the space, wrote in the lengthy post. They added that the “crush of visitors that descended upon our Hill this year” forced them to realize that the lack of parking areas and local road infrastructure was too much to overcome and became a “liability” and caused “safety concerns for everyone involved.”

“We have carefully examined numerous potential remedies to reduce traffic and visitors to try and keep the Hill open, including shuttles and reservations for attendance,” they continued. “However, in the end, we reached the same conclusion that the narrows roads and the Hill property infrastructure cannot be changed.”

The Ryan family added that cars were parked illegally and obstructed pedestrians, as well as emergency vehicles. They said they will not make any further statements regarding the closure.

News of the closing was first reported by the New York Post.
