Pete Hegseth: The left and their ‘media handlers’ won’t stop trying to delegitimize Trump

Fox News host Pete Hegseth said Friday that despite the Senate impeachment trial potentially coming to an end in the coming days, the left and the mainstream media will continue to attempt to delegitimize President Trump.

“The formality of this [impeachment] process may come to an end because just enough Republican senators held together to the very end to block witnesses. Barely. And the president [being] acquitted was a formality at the beginning anyway,” Hegseth told “Fox & Friends,” explaining what he believes will come next after the impeachment trial ends.

TED CRUZ: DEMS NEED SENATE IMPEACHMENT WITNESSES BECAUSE THEY FAILED TO PROVE THEIR CASE

“I don’t believe for a second that the left and their handlers in the media will accept the presidency of Donald Trump,” he said, arguing the left and the media used the same “playbook” that they did in trying to block Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, including a last-minute “bombshell” leak of John Bolton’s book manuscript.

“Whether it’s this election or the next one, they’re going to keep coming,” he continued, arguing that the left will not stop claiming that Trump is an “illegitimate” president.

He said Trump deserves a “victory lap” after he’s acquitted, but predicted that the next wave of attacks from Democrats will not be far behind.

After key swing-vote Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn. came out against additional witnesses ahead of the impeachment trial vote, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Friday said that now the possibility of additional witnesses has “plummeted” and Trump will soon be acquitted.

Alexander announced late Thursday night that he would not support additional witnesses in Trump’s “shallow, hurried and wholly partisan” Senate impeachment trial, seemingly ending Democrats’ hopes of hearing testimony from former National Security Adviser John Bolton and paving the way for the president’s acquittal perhaps as soon as Friday night.

Billy Ray Cyrus ‘keeps it real’ in Super Bowl commercial, talks Kobe Bryant’s legacy

On the heels of winning his first two Grammy awards for mega-hit “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus told Fox News he’s just having fun and “keeping it real.”

The country singer spoke to Fox News this week to reflect on his phenomenal 2019 — “Old Town Road” spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — and an exciting start to 2020 by getting the chance to perform the song in a Super Bowl LIV ad.

Cyrus and his guitar join forces with Lil Nas X and legendary actor Sam Elliot for a Doritos commercial airing during the big game — a collaboration he called a “match made in heaven.”

“Teaming up with Sam Elliot, Lil Nas X and Old Town road was just kind of a natural fit, to be honest,” the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer told Fox News. “Early on in the stages of Old Town Road when everything just started hitting, me and Lil Nas X made a pact: only do things that are cool. It sure don’t get no cooler than Sam Elliot and you don’t get no cooler than the Super Bowl.”

In the 60-second ad, Cyrus strums his guitar and sings the award-winning song as Lil Nas X and Elliot put on a showstopping dance battle over a bag of Doritos Cool Ranch. The country crooner said it was just another opportunity for him to continue on this “whole new” chapter of enjoying his days.

“Filming with those two was one of the coolest days of my life. We’re just having fun and keeping it real,” Miley Cyrus‘ father said. “If it ain’t fun, I don’t do it.”

Cyrus’ new life motto comes at a time when he’s joined Hollywood in honoring Kobe Bryant. He told Fox the late NBA legend, his daughter, Gianna, and the seven other passengers who lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Sunday were at the forefront of his mind during the Grammy Awards ceremony that same day at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

“There was no ignoring the enormous pain,” Cyrus explained, adding that he and daughter, Noah, were both in tears. “I couldn’t pretend. I dedicated my two Grammys that I ever held to Kobe, his daughter and to all the victims.”

The famous father added that Bryant has left a profound impact, not just on Hollywood stars honoring the beloved athlete, but worldwide.

“He was such a great light in the world and has left a legacy of love and positivity that will shine forever,” Cyrus said.

Sexual assaults at US military academies rise sharply

Reports of sexual assault at the nation’s military academies rose sharply in the past school year, a new Pentagon survey has found.

The numbers for the 2018-19 school year jumped by one-third over the previous school year, according to the Pentagon’s “Annual Report on Sexual Harassment and Violence at the Military Service Academies.” The Pentagon submitted the report to Congress Thursday.

“Our data last year, and the findings from this years’ report, reflect the progress we have made in some areas, and the significant work that remains,” said Elizabeth Van Winkle, executive director of the Office of Force Resiliency.

Cadets and midshipmen reported 122 sexual assaults in the 2018-19 school year, according to the report.

In 2017-18, the number was 92, a 32 percent jump.

There were 27 additional sexual assaults reported in 2018-19, including some from civilians and active service members, bringing the total to 149 – and up from 117 in 2017-18.

‘SEXUAL ASSAULT CRISIS’: UNWANTED CONTACT REPORTS HIT ALL-TIME HIGH AT COAST GUARD ACADEMY

The Pentagon said it would await a more detailed report in 2021 to decide if the new numbers were signs of a more prevalent problem of sexual assault at the Army, Air Force and Navy academies.

The report cited the academies’ underlying culture tolerant of sexually harassing behavior and alcohol misuse as risk factors for sexual assault.

“Female cadets and midshipmen expressed the perceived need to adapt to social norms to fit in with the ‘boy’s club,’” the authors of the report wrote. “They noted a number of behaviors embedded in the ‘bro’ culture, including sexual jokes, making sexual comments, gestures, or advances, and unwanted touching that they tolerate to be socially accepted.”

An advocate for victims of sexual assault in the military pointed to last year’s report and said this year’s numbers reflect an increase in incidents, not just a greater willingness to report them, USA Today reported.

Don Christensen, president of Protect our Defenders and a former chief prosecutor for the Air Force, told the paper that he didn’t see the report as good news.

Former FBI translator gets probation for doctored transcript

Westlake Legal Group AP20031305195616 Former FBI translator gets probation for doctored transcript fox-news/world/terrorism fox-news/us/crime fox-news/tech/topics/fbi fox news fnc/us fnc article 6e63fedf-ac29-5ad0-805d-99d767258507

A former FBI translator was sentenced to probation Friday after he admitted doctoring transcripts when his own voice came up on intercepts of phone calls placed by a terrorism suspect.

Abdirizak Wehelie of Burke, Va., also received a $1,000 fine at his sentencing hearing in U.S. District Court in Alexandria.

Wehelie, 68, pleaded guilty in November to making false statements. He admitted he marked himself down as an “unidentified male” when a target of FBI surveillance left a message on Wehelie’s cellphone in 2012, while Wehelie was working as a contract linguist for the FBI.

Sentencing guidelines called for a term of zero to six months.

Wehelie took responsibility for his actions in comments to the judge before he was sentenced.

FORMER FBI LINGUIST CHARGED WITH LYING TO AUTHORITIES ABOUT CONTACT WITH TERRORIST

“Upon hearing my voice on the voicemail, I froze in shock and fear; fear of what it could possibly mean for my family and myself,” Wehelie wrote in a letter to the court.

Wehelie worked as a contractor for the FBI from 2012 to 2015. In December 2012, a man targeted by the FBI in an investigation connected to the Al-Shabab terrorist group in Somalia called and left a voicemail message for Wehelie.

The call was intercepted under court-ordered surveillance, and Wehelie was tasked the next day with translating the call. He marked himself down as “unidentified male” even though the voicemail message on Wehelie’s cellphone identified him as “Abdirizak Wehelie.”

The FBI questioned Wehelie about his actions in 2016. At the time, according to the indictment, Wehelie admitted that he should not have identified himself as an “unidentified male” on that translation. He also told FBI agents he had never actually had a phone conversation with the person who called him and that he didn’t know the person very well. But a subsequent FBI investigation revealed that the two had nearly 180 phone contacts from 2010 to 2017.

“This was a one-time event in which Mr. Wehelie essentially panicked,” said his lawyer, Nina Ginsberg, about the doctored transcript.

The Wehelie family has faced government scrutiny for a decade. Two of Wehelie’s adult children were placed on the no-fly list and denied re-entry to the U.S. for several weeks in 2010, before Abdirizak Wehelie began his work for the FBI.

Yahya and Yusuf Wehelie were the subject of international news coverage that summer when they said they were detained and tortured after traveling to Yemen to learn Arabic. After a delay of several weeks and pressure from Muslim civil rights groups, the brothers were allowed to return to the U.S. later that summer.

In 2017, Yusuf Wehelie was sentenced to 10 years in prison for illegally transporting high-powered weapons in a case where he spoke with an undercover witness about his desire to shoot up a military recruitment center on behalf of the Islamic State group.

AMERICAN AIRLINES SUED OVER CORONAVIRUS BY PILOT UNION SEEKING TO CANCEL US-CHINA FLIGHTS

The airline made announced Friday morning that it would be temporarily suspending all U.S. to China flights beginning Feb. 6 through April 30, due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

“Between now and Feb. 5, Delta will continue to operate flights to ensure customers looking to exit China have options to do so,” a statement on its website read.

“The last China-bound flight departing the U.S. will leave on Monday, Feb. 3, with the last return flight back to the U.S. departing China on Feb. 5. The airline will continue to monitor the situation closely and may make additional adjustments as the situation continues to evolve.”

Previously Delta stated it would only be reducing the number of flights between the U.S. and mainland China from 42 weekly flights to 21, due to a decrease in customer demand.

“Delta is temporarily reducing the number of weekly flights it operates between the U.S. and China due to significantly reduced customer demand prompted by global health concerns related to coronavirus,” the airline said in an earlier statement shared with Fox News.

Kayla Gowdy: Dems’ 10 biggest lies in Trump’s Senate impeachment trial

Westlake Legal Group Impeachement-managers-Pelosi Kayla Gowdy: Dems' 10 biggest lies in Trump's Senate impeachment trial Kayla Gowdy fox-news/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry fox-news/politics/elections/democrats fox-news/person/nancy-pelosi fox-news/person/jerrold-nadler fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/person/adam-schiff fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc article 945a01df-259e-5c20-b3fa-41e94783d4bc

Americans know the Democrats’ plan to impeach President Trump did not begin in September 2019. Rather, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., admitted herself, it has been going on for over two and a half years.

Unable to wrap their head around the idea that 60 million Americans disagreed with the socialist agenda propagated by the Democratic Party, Rep Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Rep Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and many others began their plan to impeach President Trump the moment he was elected.

This entire impeachment sham has been a predetermined narrative full of lies and false accusations designed to divide America and harm President Trump.

PELOSI ARGUES TRUMP ‘CANNOT BE ACQUITTED,’ SUGGESTS DEFENSE TEAM SHOULD BE DISBARRED

It’s time to correct the record on Congressional Democrats’ ten most egregious impeachment lies.

Lie: This impeachment process began after an anonymous whistleblower filed a complaint through the proper channels within the Office of the Inspector General.

Fact: An article published on Oct 2, 2019, by the New York Times proved Schiff received an early account of the whistleblower’s complaint despite his persistent denial. This gave Democrats time to come up with an impeachment plan before any information was released to the public.

Lie: Democrats began the impeachment hearings out of concern for the country and the Constitution.

Fact: Time and time again Democrats have gone on the record proving their motivations for impeachment to be political.

Rep. Al Green, D-Texas: “I’m concerned if we don’t impeach this President, he will get reelected.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, D-N.Y.: “[Impeaching Trump] is about preventing a potentially disastrous outcome [in 2020].”

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.: “The president’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box.”

Lie: President Trump during a phone call with Ukranian President Zelensky asked for a personal favor.

Fact: Despite consistent false statements from Democratic Congressmen and members of the media, the released transcript of the call proved President Trump said, “I want you to do us a favor.” The “us” refers to America, not his political campaign.

Lie: President Trump’s unprecedented withholding of aid endangered the United States and Ukraine.

Fact: Not only did Ukraine receive its aid on time and in its entirety, but President Trump actually resumed granting foreign aid after President Obama ended the practice.

Lie: President Zelensky felt pressure from President Trump to investigate the Bidens.

Fact: President Zelensky addressed the issue with the American press, stating the call was “normal” and “nobody pushed” him to do anything for the aid.

More from Opinion

Lie: House impeachment witnesses are first-hand evidence of a quid pro quo.

Fact: Of the impeachment witnesses brought by House Democrats, Gordon Sondland was the only one who spoke directly with President Trump regarding aid to Ukraine. He was clear the president told him, “I want nothing. I want no quid pro quo.”

Lie: The whistleblower is non-partisan and can be completely trusted.

Fact: The Intelligence Inspector General found the whistleblower has “arguable political bias” against Trump and was not a primary source to the conversation, giving him no credible knowledge of the situation.

Lie: Hunter Biden and his work at Burisma are not relevant to the impeachment proceedings as he and former Vice President Biden did nothing wrong.

Fact: Back in 2014, multiple mainstream media outlets, including Time and CNN, reported on Hunter Biden joining the board of Burisma, saying it gave off the appearance of corruption. Every witness House Democrats brought to testify in the open hearings echoed the same sentiment.

Lie: The House of Representatives approved a strong enough impeachment case for the Senate to vote to remove President Trump from office.

Fact: Immediately after the articles of impeachment were handed over to the Senate, Democrats began demanding new evidence and for more witnesses to be brought forward since their case was weak and without evidence.

Lie: There was an urgent need for impeachment.

Fact: After saying for months that impeaching President Trump was an urgent matter, Pelosi refused to send the articles to the Senate, unnecessarily delaying the trial.

It’s clear Democrats have one goal with the impeachment proceedings: denying Americans their Constitutionally elected president by overturning the results of the 2016 election. It’s a disgrace just how low they are willing to go belittle President Trump and his supporters. Their deliberate lies must be exposed.

Japan ski resort hit by avalanche; 1 feared dead, 7 survive

10 Super Bowl trivia questions that’ll make you scratch your head

Super Bowl  LIV is this Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers. Whether you’re a casual fan watching for the commercials or you’re a hardcore fan who knows their X’s and O’s, now is a good time to brush up on trivia on the big game.

One of the most-watched television events in America, it wasn’t always known as the Super Bowl. Prior to the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, it was originally known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. It was later renamed the Super Bowl after 1968 when former Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt coined the phrase “Super Bowl,” taking inspiration from his young daughter’s Super Ball toy and the college football bowl games.

The Chiefs are vying for their third Super Bowl win, having last won in 1969, when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV 23-7. Conversely, the 49ers are looking for the sixth Super Bowl victory, last defeating the San Diego Chargers 49-26 in 1995.
