‘Modern Family’ star Ariel Winter shows off abs in Instagram post: ‘You look beautiful’

Modern Family” star Ariel Winter showed some skin in her most recent Instagram post.

The 21-year-old actress Monday posted a photo of herself donning a red crop top and jeans. Her long black hair — which, up until recently, was dyed red — fell over her shoulders in loose curls. Winter appears to be wearing minimal makeup as she stands with her hands on her hips, showing off her abs as she offers a soft smile to the camera.

“A wild smart a– with nap hair spotted on the set of @abcmodernfam,” she captioned the post, in part.

The image — which had more than 470,000 likes as of Wednesday afternoon — garnered thousands of comments from fans, many of whom complimented the TV star.

“Beautiful!” wrote one of Winter’s “Modern Family” co-stars, Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

“Queen of cuteness,” wrote a second.

“Gorgeous,” commented another admirer.

“You look beautiful,” said a fourth.

ARIEL WINTER FLAUNTS CURVES AFTER ADDRESSING PLASTIC SURGERY QUESTION

The post comes after Winter touched on a variety of topics — from dealing with body-shaming trolls to why she left college — in a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter in July.

At the time, Winter said she is looking forward to auditioning for more “adult roles” now that the beloved sitcom that propelled her to fame is coming to an end.

“It’s strange to think that it’s coming to an end,” she said. “It will be hard to say goodbye. It will be hard to leave that, but I am excited to do new things. I’m excited to play new roles and to do things that challenge me a little more.”

“Alex is a great character but Alex doesn’t change a ton… I was a kid as Alex on the show and now I’m an adult as Alex, so it’s a little different than the roles I want to play,” she added of her “Modern Family” character.

“I don’t want to play kid to adult. I want to just play my age now,” she concluded.

LA sheriff’s deputy fired after allegedly making up story about being shot by sniper

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has fired a deputy whom officials say “completely fabricated” a story last week about being shot by a sniper.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva made the announcement regarding Angel Reinosa on Wednesday, days after his assistant told reporters that the department intended on relieving the 21-year-old of his duties. He said Reinosa no longer worked with the sheriff’s department as of Tuesday night.

He then said he can’t comment on the personnel matter and can’t speculate on the motive for Reinosa’s alleged fabrications.

Law enforcement sources also told NBC Los Angeles that prosecutors are exploring potential criminal charges against Reinosa, ranging from making a false report of an emergency to perjury.

Reinosa, a rookie with the department, had cut holes in his shirt to make it look like he had been shot last Wednesday and was treated for a “bruise” on his shoulder at a hospital following the allegedly made-up incident, Homicide Bureau Capt. Kent Wegener said over the weekend.

SHERIFF’S DEPUTY MADE UP STORY ABOUT BEING SHOT, AUTHORITIES SAY

Assistant Sheriff Robin Limon told reporters the department was “incredibly disappointed” by the case and is launching a criminal investigation into the officer’s false report.

“Things didn’t add up,” Wegener said. “There was no sniper, no shots fired and no gunshot injuries sustained to his shoulder. Completely fabricated.”

The deputy claimed he was shot while walking to his car from the sheriff’s station in Lancaster in northern L.A. County. Reinosa reported that he was shot in the chest but his bulletproof vest deflected the bullet into his shoulder, causing a bruise.

Heavily-armed deputies wearing tactical gear then set up a perimeter and launched a massive search for a suspect in triple-digit temperatures Wednesday but weren’t able to find a suspect.

Wegener said the investigation found no ballistic evidence at the scene and no witnesses said they had heard any shots.

He added that Reinosa hasn’t said why he allegedly did it.

Scottish teenage sisters rescue man, toddler in danger of drowning by using inflatable pool float

Two teenage sisters are being hailed as heroes after they quickly jumped into action Monday while at a beach in Scotland and helped rescue a man and toddler who were in danger of drowning, according to officials.

RNLI Fraserburgh Lifeboat said on Facebook the incident happened near Fraserburgh when Isla Noble, 15 and her sister Eilidh, 14, were at the beach when they heard shouting.

The sisters first saw a man they thought was playing with his child on his shoulders, but then realized the pair were in “serious trouble”

The two then took off, swimming out into the sea with an inflatable pool mat to get the two on. Once the pair were partially on the mat, the sisters started swimming back to shore.

Another person, identified as Keith Gray, then got into the water to help the sisters drag the float and eventually push it onto the shore.

“Keith had been enjoying a picnic at the local beauty spot with his family when he saw what was going on and ran down and into the water to help,” rescue officials said.

By the time the group arrived back onshore, the man had fallen unconscious as the girls called for emergency services. A nurse who happened to be on the beach at the time heard cries for help and placed in the man in the “recovery position,” eventually getting him to cough up some seawater.

Rescuers said emergency services arrived quickly. After several minutes, the man regained consciousness enough to thank his rescuers before being airlifted to hospital. The toddler was fine after the rescue, officials said.

“Isla and Eilidh and Keith did brilliant,” officials said. “The girls, for being so young and springing into action and having the presence of mind to phone the coastguard and calmly give them the details of the incident, enabled the emergency services including ourselves to respond and arrive so quickly.”

The incident demonstrated the “dangers of swimming in our seas,” according to officials, who added that everyone should remember to be very careful when having fun at the coast.

Lori Loughlin college scandal ‘doesn’t make sense,’ John Stamos says

John Stamos doesn’t comprehend the college admissions scandal that implicated his former “Full House” co-star Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli.

“I gotta be careful,” the ageless Uncle Jesse told GQ in an interview released Wednesday. “I want to wait until the trial happens, if it does, or whatever the result is, and then talk about it. … I’ll tell you one thing that has been strange is: Honestly I can’t figure it out. It doesn’t make sense.”

‘FULLER HOUSE’ STAR BOB SAGET SPEAKS OUT ON BRIBERY ALLEGATIONS AGAINST LORI LOUGHLIN

Stamos, 56, said he spoke to Loughlin, 55, the day the news broke of her arrest, but that he still “can’t process” the case or its fallout.

“Whatever happened … I’m pretty sure that the punishment is not equal to the crime, if there was a crime,” he told GQ.

Stamos first broke his silence on the bribery allegations plaguing Loughlin and Giannulli, 56, in June when it was revealed that Loughlin had been written off “Fuller House.”

LORI LOUGHLIN KEEPING ‘METICULOUS RECORDS’ AHEAD OF COLLEGE SCANDAL TRIAL

“I haven’t been on the show yet and it hasn’t come up, so I’m going to talk to some people about it this week and see what’s going on,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “I’m just going to wait a little longer before I talk about it. It’s a difficult situation for everyone involved. I don’t mean just on our side.”

In March, Loughlin and Giannulli were accused of paying $500,000 to admissions scam mastermind William “Rick” Singer to get daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella recruited onto the USC crew team despite neither girl being a coxswain. The girls’ enrollment statuses at USC were put on hold amid an internal investigation into the scandal.

The pair rejected the plea deal that other parents allegedly involved in the case — including Felicity Huffman — accepted. They were then hit with additional charges of money laundering and conspiracy and now face up to 40 years behind bars if convicted of all counts and charges.

COULD OLIVIA JADE BE IMPLICATED IN LORI LOUGHLIN AND MOSSIMO GIANNULLI’S ALLEGED COLLEGE SCAM?

The couple appeared in court on Tuesday in Boston, where a judge ruled they could continue using their chosen law firm, Latham & Watkins, after prosecutors alleged there may be a conflict of interest because the firm previously represented USC in an unrelated case.

In a July filing, the couple’s legal team from Latham & Watkins announced that Giannulli and Loughlin wanted to maintain a united front in court.

“Giannulli and Loughlin are innocent of the charges brought against them and are eager to clear their names,” the filing read. “And they believe their interests will be advanced most effectively by presenting a united front against the Government’s baseless accusations.”

The attorneys added that Loughlin and Giannulli wanted a “common defense” and noted that they understood the risks involved with mutual representation, including the frequent legal argument that “the best defense for one client may depend on compromising the defense of the other client.”

The team explained further, “A common defense often gives strength against a common attack … Whatever happens, Giannulli and Loughlin will have their interests fully protected, and the case will proceed without undue delay.”

Chechen exile slain ‘execution-style’ in Berlin park, Russia denies involvement

Russia was forced to deny Wednesday it had anything to do with the mysterious “execution-style” killing of a Chechen exile in a Berlin park by a Russian man last week.

The fatal shooting happened around noon on Friday at Kleiner Tiergarten park in the Berlin neighborhood of Moabit, when 40-year-old Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was shot and killed by a man on a bicycle.

The cyclist, identified as a 48-year-old Russian man, was arrested shortly afterward. The Berlin State Prosecutor’s office said on Twitter the suspected weapon and bike were recovered in a nearby river.

GERMAN CITY OFFERING $1.1 MILLION IF YOU CAN PROVE IT DOESN’T EXIST

An eyewitness told the Berliner Morgenpost newspaper that the attack looked like an “execution-style” killing, and that the suspect approached the Georgian victim from behind, shooting him twice in the head.

Prosecutors in Berlin said an arrest warrant was issued against the man on the charges of “insidious murder” and that he is in pretrial detention,” Deutsche Welle reported.

The victim was a veteran of the Second Chechen War, which lasted from 1999-2009, and fought against Russia as a separatist, before moving to Germany in 2016, German media reported.

Georgian lawyer Tamta Mikeladze told the BBC he fled to Germany after surviving an assassination attempt in the Georgian capital Tbilisi in 2015 when eight bullets were fired at him.

“Due to his war experience, the Russian special services’ interest in him was high. Some of his comrades were also killed after the war,” she told the BBC.

Prosecutors in Germany have not commented on reports the victim was an ex-insurgent who fought Russian forces in Chechnya, nor on speculation he may have been targeted.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters that Russia had nothing to do with the crime.

“This case has nothing to do with the Russian state, with authorities,” he said. “I resolutely deny any connection between the killing and Russian officialdom.”

Steven Alter, a spokesman for Germany’s Interior Ministry, said the case was being handled by Berlin regional authorities and the facts were still being determined.

“Everything further that you can read in media reports is, in my evaluation and in the evaluation of our ministry, speculation at the moment,” he said.

Bride allegedly kicks guests out of wedding after accidentally inviting them

If weddings are about alienating your friends, this bride seems to have done hers right.

An anonymous Reddit user has recently claimed that she and her partner were removed from a wedding because the bride accidentally sent them an invitation.

According to the anonymous post on the forum’s Wedding Shaming page, the pair were sent an invitation to the 2 p.m. ceremony on Aug. 24.

SIBLINGS SAVE MONEY BY HAVING WEDDINGS ON SAME DAY, SPLITTING THE COST

“On the invite you can see in the pic, we were invited from 2pm, so we duly arrived in time for that. We were surprised to be invited to the day, but knowing what a flakey friend the bride has been over the years, I could understand why she might be struggling to fill a room these days,” the anonymous guest wrote, also sharing that she RSVPed to the bride after receiving the invite.

The woman went on to claim the two left the part and took the card with the $122 cash gift for the bride and went out to eat and drink with the money and did not return to the wedding party. (iStock)

The guest goes on to claim they “had a lovely chat” with the bride over a drink before the wedding dinner began after the ceremony. However, the sweet occasion quickly turned sour when the poster alleges the “chief bridesmaid came over to shepherd” the two aside.

“This is really awkward and I’m really sorry to say this, but you’re not supposed to be here until the evening and the bride is freaking out because there’s no place setting for you,” the guest writes that the bridesmaid said.

“She was implying that we had just rocked up and crashed the wedding, so I got the day invite, (which I’d luckily brought along,) out of my pocket and showed her,” the guest continued. “Rather than accept the mistake and try to accommodate us, she just kept saying how awkward this is until I said, don’t worry, we’ll go and have some food elsewhere and come back for the party.”

The Redditor shared that the wedding, which took place in the U.K., was split up into three “tiers” which consists of “a day invite for your close family and friends (as many as you can fit/afford) and then a more casual invite for the party after the service, dinner and speeches, which you invite people you want there, but aren’t as close to/obliged to invite to the day.”

The author wrote that they “waited until everyone was called for dinner to not make a scene” before slipping out, though they claim that the bride began telling ushers and the bridesmaids about the situation. According to the account, the ushers came over to “physically separate” the two from the rest of the guests as they were called to dinner.

“You were definitely not wrong. They handled the situation very poorly,” one person wrote.

“Wow, what a bizarre situation you got thrown into by very rude and tactless people. soooo glad to read that you took your gift back, and enjoyed it.. that’s the best part of this post!” another commented.

“Apart from how badly they handled this mistake, I feel if your wedding can only work if only the exact number invited shows up, then it’s poorly planned, there should be leeway for 4 or so extra people showing up or just as capacity for mistakes, you can’t tell me that the caterers have only enough slices of ham for the exact numbers invited it’s nonsense,” another wrote.

Viral deep-fried ‘Pizzadilla’ grosses out the Internet: ‘I’m gonna have a nightmare tonight’

Pizza is great. Quesadillas are delicious. Deep-fried food is wonderful. Combining all three into one monster dish, however, might be taking things a little too far.

Cooking videos have become extremely popular on the internet, especially when they show someone making an unusual recipe. For example, a video recently went viral showing someone making a BBQ chicken quesadilla, deep frying it and then grilling a pepperoni pizza on top of it.

Yes, you read that right.

The video was uploaded in early August to the Youtube account Twisted, a channel that claims to make the “most decadent, weird, and delicious food recipes on the internet.”

Since then, it has slowly caught the Internet’s attention. Based on the comments, one of the most common reactions seems to be that the dish is made up of too many different parts.

Even among the detractors, however, many seemed willing to try it.

One commenter on the original Youtube video broke it down, saying, “Honestly, the tortilla, cheese, breading and deep-frying, and even the dip, aren’t that bad. A bit excessive maybe, but it all seems like a cohesive recipe. The added pizza layer is just really tacked on and it detracts from the whole thing. It wouldn’t be getting anywhere near the reaction it’s gotten had it not been cooked as a pizza. But then I suppose that’s the point.”

Another commenter replied, “She could have just stopped once she mixed the chicken with the sauce and veggies. This would’ve been fine as just a shredded BBQ chicken sandwich, but no… you just had to go eight more steps.”

Many echoed her sentiments.

The look of the final product seemed to upset some people, with one user commenting, “The way she sliced it. I’m gonna have a nightmare tonight.”

On Twitter, video of People’s Food Editor Shay Spence shows him struggling to eat a single bite. One user reacted to that video, saying, “You know it’s bad when someone wearing a Pizza Hut shirt can’t stomach it.”

Another user reacted to video, posting, “It looks more appetizing than I expected, but that sawing sound gives the game away.”

As for the creators of the Pizzadilla, they responded to the reactions on Twitter with a simple message: “We made the Pizzadilla and we’re not sorry.”

New gene-editing technology could help treat Huntington’s disease, premature aging, study says

A new genetic editing tool could give hope to people who suffer from Huntington’s disease and progeria, which causes premature aging, a study says.

Published in Cell Research, the study says researchers at Salk Institute have created a new tool, known as SATI, that enables them to edit the mouse genome and target a large swath of genetic mutations and cell types.

“This study has shown that SATI is a powerful tool for genome editing,” said Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, a professor in Salk’s Gene Expression Laboratory and the study’s lead author, in a statement. “It could prove instrumental in developing effective strategies for target-gene replacement of many different types of mutations, and opens the door for using genome-editing tools to possibly cure a broad range of genetic diseases.”

WORLD’S FIRST GENETICALLY EDITED BABIES? INTERNATIONAL OUTRAGE ENSUES AS CHINESE SCIENTIST MAKES BOLD CLAIM

Instead of replacing the trouble genes entirely, the researchers used SATI to put a good copy of one of the genes into a certain part of the mouse’s DNA. The gene is later inserted into the genome and essentially corrects the mutation without replacing the entire gene.

In the testing, scientists used SATI to correct the gene that is responsible for progeria in mice. Researchers said that they observed diminished aging in several organs, including the skin and spleen, as well as a 45 percent increase in the lifespan of the mice with the disease.

“We sought to create a versatile tool to target these non-coding regions of the DNA, which would not affect the function of the gene, and enable the targeting of a broad range of mutations and cell types,” Mako Yamamoto, one of the study’s co-authors, added. “As a proof-of-concept, we focused on a mouse model of premature aging caused by a mutation that is difficult to repair using existing genome-editing tools.”

Like progeria, Huntington’s disease is considered fatal, according to the Huntington Disease Society of America. The genetic disorder “causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain” and deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years. Currently, there is no known cure.

A Salk Institute spokesperson told Fox News: “Huntington’s is mentioned as an example of the type of mutation this approach could potentially be applied to, but mice with Huntington’s were not involved and further study would be needed for the application of the SATI technology to that specific disease.”

FUTURISTIC GENE EDITING TECHNOLOGY MAY CAUSE CANCER

SATI is based off the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technique and works with a wide range of gene-editing tools. George Church, professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School, is one of the inventors of CRISPR-Cas9.

“A similar extension of life span, when translated to humans, would be more than a decade,” the statement reads. “Thus, the SATI system represents the first in vivo gene correction technology that can target non-coding regions of DNA in multiple tissue types.”

Further down the line, the team wants to make SATI more efficient by increasing the number of cells that are incorporated into the DNA, thereby “boosting gains from the gene-editing procedure and potentially showing even more dramatic results.”

“Specifically, we will investigate the details of the cellular systems involved in DNA repair to refine the SATI technology even further for better DNA correction,” said one of the study’s co-authors, Reyna Hernandez-Benitez.

While somewhat controversial in that it’s capable of causing genetic damage according to one study, CRISPR has been credited with several biological and scientific achievements. These include eliminating viruses in pigs that could be harmful to people, which could lay the foundations for pig-to-human organ transplants.

The gene-editing tool has also been used to correct a disease-causing gene mutation in human embryos, preventing the mutation from passing to future generations.

Antonio Brown responded to Ben Roethlisberger on social media Tuesday after the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said the way last season played out fractured their relationship.

Roethlisberger told NBC Sports in an interview Sunday that he regretted calling Brown out publicly after he ran a bad route in a late-season loss to the Denver Broncos. The moment appeared to be the start of the apparent downward trend between Brown and the Steelers’ organization.

“I wish I wouldn’t have done it,” Roethlisberger said. “Obviously, we saw what happened, and obviously, it ruined a friendship. I just got caught up in emotion and the heat of the battle.”

Brown responded in a tweet the two were never friends.

“Never friends just had to get my ends…….shut up already,” the tweet read.

The tweet has since been deleted.

Several fans quickly pointed out that Brown previously described Roethlisberger as his best friend.
