Dave Rubin: Trudeau should be held accountable, consistent with left’s rules

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6087865021001_6087858002001-vs Dave Rubin: Trudeau should be held accountable, consistent with left's rules Frank Miles fox-news/world fox-news/person/justin-trudeau fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc eba66792-6da0-596b-a8be-c7ba05ee293c article

Talk show host Dave Rubin said Thursday night on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” that the left set up fake rules that are now haunting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau amid his blackface scandal.

Trudeau came under fire Thursday after images emerged of him in blackface at a costume party. Trudeau apologized Thursday, but stopped short of saying whether there were more pictures or videos of him dressed up in skin-darkening makeup.

On “Tucker Carlson Tonight”, Rubin defended the Canadian leader from claims he is racist — but said he is being judged by harsh standards established by those on his side of the political aisle.

“No one really thinks at this very moment that Justin Trudeau is a racist,” Rubin said.

CNN’S DON LEMON KNOCKS TRUMP WHILE PRAISING JUSTIN TRUDEAU’S APOLOGY OVER BROWNFACE PHOTO

But, he added, “he must now be taken down. … His own people have to take him down. … These are the rules that they have set.”

Trudeau gave no sign that he might resign, and there were no immediate calls from any leading figures in his Liberal Party to step down. Instead, many Liberals, some of them people of color, rallied around him, even as two more instances of him wearing brown- or blackface decades ago came to light.

Asked how many times he has worn blackface, Trudeau said, “I am wary of being definitive about this because the recent pictures that came out I had not remembered.”

He said that he has dedicated himself as a politician to “counter intolerance and racism everywhere I can,” and he confessed to letting people down.

“I stand here today to reflect on that and ask for forgiveness.”

Time magazine published the first photo on Wednesday, saying it was taken from the yearbook from a private school in British Columbia where Trudeau worked as a teacher before going into politics.

The image is of Trudeau, then 29, at an “Arabian Nights” party in a turban and robe with dark makeup on his hands, face and neck. Trudeau said he was dressed as a character from “Aladdin.”

Rubin said if something similar emerged concerning someone on the right, the knives would be out.

Earlier this year, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam faced intense pressure to resign after a racist picture surfaced from his 1984 medical school yearbook page. At first, he denied being in the picture but then admitted to wearing blackface to portray Michael Jackson at a dance party in the 1980s. Since then, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring has acknowledged wearing blackface in college, and Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has publicly apologized for wearing blackface during a college skit more than a half-century ago.

Trudeau has long championed multiculturalism and immigration, with Canada, population 37 million, accepting more refugees than the U.S. under the Trump administration. Half of Trudeau’s Cabinet is made up of women, four are Sikhs, and his immigration minister is a Somali-born refugee.

“Do we let him slide?” Rubin asked, questioning the moral authority of modern liberalism.

World War II ‘Hero of Cologne,’ 95, receives Bronze Star for destroying Nazi tank in firefight

It took nearly 75 years, but World War II veteran Clarence Smoyer, 95, finally received the Bronze Star Medal on Wednesday for his heroic actions that helped destroy a German tank and take the crucial city of Cologne.

Smoyer was a tank gunner with the famous “Eagle 7” M26 Pershing tank crew, which blew up a Nazi Panther tank that had killed several American soldiers on March 6, 1945.

His lieutenant told them, “‘Gentlemen, I give you Cologne. Let’s knock the hell out of it,’ and we obliged,” Smoyer told the Defense Department following the event at the National World War II Memorial in Washington.

An American military cameraman captured footage of Smoyer and his crew in action, and the video was seen around the world. Smoyer became known as the “Hero of Cologne.” But a few days later he ran afoul of a minor disciplinary issue that cost him his medal.

“The day after we knocked the tank out, my friend and I were walking down the street,” Smoyer told the Defense Department. ” Everything was fine, no fighting anymore. But as we walked down the street, these two little kiddies come running out and they’re saying ‘Kaugummi! Kaugummi!’ They wanted bubble gum.”

“I tried to explain to them I didn’t have anything. I pulled my pockets out to show them they were empty,” Smoyer went on. “I took them by their hands and took them back to their mother. And then I turned around and started to walk away, and the MPs [Military Police] pull up alongside of me and ask for my name and rank. ‘You’re not supposed to be talking to the Germans,’ they told me. I think that caused me to lose the Bronze Star.”

Smoyer’s tank commander and the cameraman who filmed the battle did receive Bronze Stars of their own.

Best-selling author Adam Makos wrote about Smoyer and his crew in the recent book “Spearhead.” When he learned Smoyer had not been awarded the Bronze Star for his actions, he went on a mission to right what he saw as an injustice.

After the Army agreed to award Smoyer the Bronze Star, Makos brought him to Washington for what he said would be a book-signing event at the Pentagon.

Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., also attended the event in honor of Smoyer, who hails from Allentown.

Toomey posted a video of the event online Thursday.

“Yesterday, I was humbled to attend a ceremony for PA native & WWII veteran Clarence Smoyer & the members of Eagle 7,” Toomey tweeted. “Now one of the most decorated tank crews in American history, I’m thrilled my office and I were able to assist in properly honoring these American heroes.”

Bow gunner Homer Davis, driver William McVey, and loader John DeRiggi were posthumously recognized, the Pentagon said, and their families accepted Bronze Stars on their behalf.

“It’s an honor. It is an honor, and I will always honor that. I’ll do that in remembrance of all the young boys that were killed over there,” Smoyer said.

Kansas man moves into animal shelter to help get dog adopted

A Kansas man went above and beyond to help man’s best friend — even moving into an animal shelter to comfort a dog in need of adoption.

The dog, named Queen, is a 3-year-old terrier mix available for adoption at Great Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Merriam, Kan., Fox 4 reported.

Scott Poore, who has dedicated his life to animals through his organization “Mission Driven,” said he moved into the shelter earlier this week to stay with Queen when he heard the dog was having trouble getting adopted and seemed depressed. The animal has been living in the shelter for over 400 days.

After seeing a change in the dog’s behavior, he decided to decorate the kennel with pictures and stuffed animals with the goal of attracting the attention of a potential adopter.

On Thursday, Poore posted an update on Mission Driven’s Facebook page, saying Queen didn’t have a single visitor, even with all the media exposure.

“Not one potential adopter has come today,” Poore said in the video update.

He reiterated that Queen is extremely affectionate and said children under eight years old would make her a little nervous.

Democratic activist Badrun Khan, who is challenging Ocasio-Cortez for the Democratic nomination to represent New York’s 14th district, said the media darling is not doing enough to represent her constituents.

“She is Hollywood and Washington,” Khan, who is the daughter of Bengali immigrants, said.

She also said the worldview of Ocasio-Cortez is not indicative of their Queens home, claiming: “They aren’t looking for socialism.”

Gary Shapiro: New trade pact with Canada and Mexico deserves quick congressional approval

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6086157723001_6086155079001-vs Gary Shapiro: New trade pact with Canada and Mexico deserves quick congressional approval Gary Shapiro fox-news/world/world-regions/canada fox-news/world/trade fox-news/world/global-economy fox-news/world fox-news/us/immigration/mexico fox-news/opinion fox-news/newsedge/international fox news fnc/opinion fnc article 881ba201-2e23-5e57-b1ea-8572e895acef /FOX NEWS/WORLD/GLOBAL ECONOMY/Trade

Congress is back, and while our leaders have a busy session ahead, they should prioritize passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) – the new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Updates to NAFTA are overdue. The original agreement went into effect in 1994 – well before digital tools that shape how we shop, how we play and how we do business existed. Consumers expect to connect with content from anywhere in the globe in a matter of seconds, and companies expect to be able to reach across borders and manage supply chains with the touch of a button.

Our leaders couldn’t have foreseen these developments at the time, but failing to take them into account now would fail consumers and entrepreneurs.

BRAD BLAKEMAN: WHY IS CONGRESS HOLDING UP TRUMP’S MEXICO-CANADA TRADE AGREEMENT?

The USMCA includes key provisions for the new digital economy. These include prohibiting tariffs and duties on digital products; paring down restrictions on data flow, the transmission of data across borders; and prohibiting forced data localization – the technical name for when a country demands that foreign companies seeking to do business abide by their own laws on data flow.

All must work quickly and hard to move new NAFTA forward. The U.S. trade representative should work with Congress on outstanding questions including clarifying the auto content and value requirements.

Perhaps the most important provision, however, is Article 19.17. Modeled on Section 230 of the U.S. Communications Decency Act, it extends the commonsense provisions of that law to our trade partners. The article states that speakers – not the platforms they use – are liable for any illegal or inflammatory content. It sounds obvious enough – but without it, we wouldn’t have seen the huge growth of the U.S. technology industry over the decades since NAFTA.

According to the Consumer Technology Association, the U.S. has done well in promoting a culture of innovation, producing 133 unicorns – companies with a market value greater than $1 billion – between 2009 and 2018 alone. If platforms were liable for every inflammatory email, tweet or post sent via its channels, many of the services that enhance our daily lives wouldn’t exist.

America is home to the world’s most dynamic Internet economy, and our online platforms are the frontrunners in business, communications and entertainment. Our political leaders need to ensure our Internet technology remains the technology of choice around the world. Thanks to the USMCA, we have a key opportunity to keep North America the best place in the world to develop talent and build companies.

Economic freedom in the U.S., Canada and Mexico has increased since the 1994 NAFTA, including higher per capita incomes, and regional trade among our three countries reached more than $1.1 trillion in 2016. But ratifying the new NAFTA is also a matter of principle. As a nation committed to being a beacon for the best and brightest, to creating a haven for innovation and ingenuity, it’s our duty to lead the way on free trade.

Beyond the economic rationale, the new NAFTA will help our nation’s physical security by aligning us even more closely with our neighbors. We’re blessed by geography and proximity.

The United States has two oceans to our east and west, and two friendly countries immediately to our north and south. But we need to maintain that strong relationship with Canada and Mexico. This agreement and the partnerships it enables will deepen our friendship and our national security, and make our country safer.

Our congressional leaders should lean into that identity, harnessing it to ratify a framework that will secure prosperity and liberty for decades to come.

Andrew Yang floats hiking beef prices to ‘modify’ American diets in bid to address climate change

Westlake Legal Group Yang-Cows Andrew Yang floats hiking beef prices to 'modify' American diets in bid to address climate change Sam Dorman fox-news/us/environment/climate-change fox-news/politics/elections fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/person/andrew-yang fox news fnc/media fnc article 10b8cb49-7800-5a23-a80f-02f6249da8e3

The U.S. should try addressing climate change by raising the cost of beef, 2020 Democratic hopeful Andrew Yang suggested on Thursday.

He made those comments while appearing at a climate change forum at Georgetown where a student claimed reducing demand on the cattle industry was the only realistic way to mitigate the industry’s impact on the environment.

“Cattle is very energy-consuming and energy-expensive,” Yang said, “and if you project forward on what we would need to do to reduce emissions, you would want to modify Americans’ diets over time.”

ANDREW YANG WANTS TO OVERHAUL PRESIDENTIAL MOTORCADE WITH ELECTRIC CARS

Yang acknowledged that it would be difficult to “regulate diets” and suggested charging cattle producers more money.

More from Media

“So what you would want to do again is you’d want those cattle producers to have to internalize the cost of emissions… So then, what that would naturally do, and some people are going to hate this, but it would probably make those products more expensive,” he said.

The issue of cattle farming has become somewhat of a sacred cow in the climate debate. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-Calif., famously caught flak for focusing on cow farts as a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

An FAQ on her “Green New Deal” read: “We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast, but we think we can ramp up renewable manufacturing and power production, retrofit every building in America, build the smart grid, overhaul transportation and agriculture, plant lots of trees and restore our ecosystem to get to net-zero.”

During an interview in February, Ocasio-Cortez defended the focus on cattle as a part of factory farming.

“In the deal, what we talk about, and it’s true, is that we need to take a look at factory farming, you know? Period. It’s wild,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And so it’s not to say you get rid of agriculture, it’s not to say we’re gonna force everybody to go vegan or anything crazy like that. But it’s to say, ‘Listen, we gotta address factory farming. Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Like, let’s keep it real.”

The state of California also previously passed a law allowing the state’s Air Resources Board to regulate cow farts.

FedEx pilot detained in China before commercial flight

A FedEx pilot was detained in China last week after items were found in his checked bag before he boarded a commercial flight, the company confirmed to Fox News on Thursday.

FedEx said former U.S. Air Force pilot Todd A. Hohn was later released, and it is working with Chinese authorities to understand what happened at the airport in Guangzhou.

Hohn was detained on Sept. 12 after pellets used in replica air guns were found in his checked bag, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the incident.

Chinese authorities are alleging that Hohn was illegally carrying ammunition, and they have opened a criminal investigation, according to The Journal.

FedEx said the pilot was later released, but his whereabouts are unknown. The Journal reported that Hohn was moved to a hotel and told that he can’t leave mainland China until the investigation is over.

“We are working with the appropriate authorities to gain a better understanding of the facts,” a company spokeswoman said in a statement to Fox News.

FEDEX CEO SAYS SHIPPING REGULATIONS CREATING ‘IMPOSSIBLE BURDEN’ FOR COMPANY: ‘WE ARE EXPECTED TO BE THE POLICEMAN’

The episode comes with FedEx already caught up in trade tensions between the United States and China.

This week, FedEx CEO Fred Smith blamed slower worldwide economic growth on trade uncertainty. Shares of FedEx fell 12.9 percent Wednesday — their worst day since 2008 — after the Memphis, Tenn., company reported disappointing quarterly profit and cut its estimate of full-year earnings.

Earlier this year, Chinese technology giant Huawei complained about deliveries that FedEx misrouted. Shortly after that, in June, FedEx sued the Commerce Department to stop enforcement of export rules that restrict shipments to Huawei and other entities. Huawei is on a list of companies barred from receiving U.S. technology without a special license from the Commerce Department.

NBA player Charles Barkley indicated that he was tired of Democrats’ inaction, saying Dems only talked with black people when they wanted their votes.

“They’ve been taking black people’s votes – and they only talk to black people every four years. All of these politicians only talk to black people every four years because they want their vote,” Barkley said in an interview aired Wednesday.

He added that he thought Republicans didn’t talk to black voters and that Democrats did “nothing in the four years in between.”

His Wednesday interview echoed his previous comments about black voters. “Every black person I know has always voted Democratic and, with the exception of a few guys who can play sports, all those people are still poor,” he said during another interview in the summer.

The 56-year-old legend also knocked Trump but was wary of calling him racist. “I’m leery of calling people ‘racist.’ He says some things that can be construed as racist,” Barkley said of Trump’s recent controversies. “Some things he’s said are very wrong and flagrant.”

Ocasio-Cortez promotes DC statehood, claims ‘right to vote is denied’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., called on Thursday for Washington, D.C. to receive statehood, indicating that residents didn’t have the “right to vote.”

“DC was the 1st territory in the United States to free the enslaved. It’s where Black Americans fled the tyranny of slavery & towards greater freedom, to DC. Yet today it’s where 2nd class citizenship reigns, and the right to vote is denied,” she said.

It’s unclear what she was referring to since citizens in Washington, D.C. have the right to vote like every other citizen. She appeared to be complaining about the fact that D.C. congressmen and congresswomen can’t vote in the House of Representatives. DC residents also do not have any representation in the Senate.

During a D.C. statehood hearing on Thursday, she also seemed to conflate former slaves with people currently living in the district.

“The people who fled here to the District of Columbia to flee slavery because of the enlightenment of this community are now disenfranchised because of that very act,” she said, according to The Washington Post.

Ocasio-Cortez’s fellow “squad” member, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., also supported the move to make D.C. a state. Talib said she wanted to show her support with a 51-star flag for her office.

House Democrats, in their first hearing on D.C. statehood in more than 25 years, on Thursday advocated for the District of Columbia to become the country’s 51st state as Republicans raised concerns about recent corruption scandals involving local D.C. officials.

Critics of D.C. statehood have long cited local corruption as one reason to oppose statehood. Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the top Republican on the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said he wanted Thursday’s hearing to delve into the ongoing scandal involving D.C. Councilman Jack Evans.
