Carol Roth: Barack and Michelle Obama’s $15 million house of hypocrisy

Westlake Legal Group ContentBroker_contentid-798e8caecee64437b684863823edff02 Carol Roth: Barack and Michelle Obama's $15 million house of hypocrisy fox-news/person/barack-obama fox-news/opinion fox-news/house-and-home fox news fnc/opinion fnc Carol Roth article 3662dffe-de40-5fac-a53c-4b9c3007c81f

Former President Obama and the former first lady have reportedly made a bid of approximately $15 million on a home in Martha’s Vineyard. The 7,000 square-foot house comes with 29 acres and would likely be a summer home. The family is known to have spent quite a bit of time on the island over past summers.

Unlike President Trump, who earned his money before taking office, the Obamas have benefited handsomely from their time in the White House. President Obama only earned the standard $400,000 salary when he was in office, but after leaving, he and his wife Michelle acquired a joint book deal worth $65 million, high-priced speaking engagements and a deal with Netflix. Now they are rolling in dough.

As a capitalist, I am all in favor of people making as much money as they want and spending it how they please. However, this lavish new abode is quite a statement in hypocrisy from the former president, who spent his presidency demonizing everyone else’s success.

OBAMAS PLACED AN OFFER ON ‘MEGA-EXPENSIVE’ ESTATE IN MARTHA’S VINEYARD: REPORT

From telling small-business owners they “didn’t build that” to the 2018 speech in which he said, “There’s only so much you can eat. There’s only so big a house you can have. There’s only so many nice trips you can take. I mean, it’s enough,” the former president has spent his life spreading messages that disparage success.

As many of my Twitter followers have pointed out, he must not believe in the climate change his Democratic peers are pushing. If he did, he would believe his $15 million investment on the small island will be underwater — quite literally — in just over a decade.

Politicians need to stop saying one thing while doing another. Living in a fancy house is admirable, but living in a glass house is contemptible.

More from Opinion

The spending is perfectly aligned with the hypocrisy and envy that continues to permeate the Democratic party. Whether it is Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., with his multi-million dollar net worth and three homes or Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who earned well into the six-figures teaching at Ivy League institutions, their definition of “too rich” seems to be one dollar more than whatever they happen to be worth at a given point in time.

Therein lies the rub. Too many in Democratic leadership peddle the politics of envy and victimhood to grab power, wealth and success for themselves. They indulge their followers in the lie that someone getting wealthy comes at someone else’s expense. While this is offensive, it is made worse by the fact that they do it specifically for their own gain, making the political class more powerful and the government more bloated all while damaging the concept of the American Dream.

I don’t begrudge the Obamas for getting a nice house — even though they “didn’t build that.” But politicians need to stop saying one thing while doing another. Living in a fancy house is admirable, but living in a glass house is contemptible.

‘Rude and cranky’ Bernie Sanders loses San Francisco restaurant owner’s vote: report

The owner of a San Francisco restaurant famous for hosting politicians said Sen. Bernie Sanders lost his vote in the 2020 presidential election after the Vermont Democrat was “rude and cranky” to his servers, a report said.

John Konstin, who owns the 111-year-old John’s Grill, told Politico many Democrats dined at his bistro while the Democratic National Convention was in town for a three-day event over the weekend. Konstin told Politico that Sanders arrived for dinner with about 15 members of his campaign team and was not nice to any of the staff and didn’t want to shake hands or have his picture taken.

“It was all very nice, except for cranky Bernie,” Konstin told Politico. “I think he was just hungry and didn’t want to be a politician. He lost my vote.”

Sanders’ campaign did not respond to an after-business-hours email from Fox News for comment. Lee Housekeeper, the media contact for John’s Grill, told San Francisco Gate that it’s uncharacteristic for Konstin to speak ill of his restaurant patrons.

“Bernie had to be in a terrible mood,” Houskeeper said. “Anyone in the public eye needs to understand when it’s time to order room service.”

Konstin told Politico that staff waiting on other Dems, including one large party with the Secretary of State of California Alex Padilla, lieutenant governor of California Eleni Kounalakis, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, had a more pleasant experience. He described Pelosi as “pure class.”

John’s Grill opened its doors in 1908 and was famously featured in Dashiell Hammett’s 1930 noir film “The Maltese Falcon,” the San Francisco Gate reported. The restaurant is popular among politicos and has pictures of politicians who’ve visited the establishment hanging on its wooden walls.

Thirteen presidential candidates attended the recent DNC meeting in San Francisco over the weekend. 2020 hopeful, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., dined out with her staff at San Francisco’s Ayala restaurant in the Union Square Hotel when she visited the city in June, the San Francisco Gate reported.

“She was absolutely wonderful and came into our kitchen,” Ayala General Manager Alexandra Loulias told the newspaper. “So complimentary of our staff. She took individual photos with everyone. Just the nicest lady.

CNN’s Jim Acosta blasts Trump for ignoring his question about climate change

CNN’s reporter Jim Acosta had another clash with President Trump, this time for not answering his question about climate change.

Trump made plenty of headlines from the G7 summit in France, but critics went after the president for skipping a meeting focused on climate change with other world leaders

Acosta attempted to ask the president, who referred to himself as an “environmentalist,” on whether or not he believes in climate change but failed to get a response.

“At the end of the news conference, I asked Trump whether he believed in climate change. He walked away from the stage and didn’t answer the question,” Acosta said.

“Trump walks away from perfectly capable of hearing the questions on whether he believes in climate change. He clearly heard and he didn’t want to answer it,” Acosta later added. “Saying you want ‘clean air’ and ‘clean water’ isn’t the same as recognizing the climate change threat.

The correspondent has had a long history of spats with the president, most memorably in November when Acosta refused to hand over the microphone to a staffer during a press conference. The Trump administration attempted to temporarily suspend the CNN reporter’s press credentials, which was foiled by a judge’s court order.

Lawrence Jones: Millennials don’t value patriotism as much as prior generations because of college ‘indoctrination’

Westlake Legal Group Jones-Hannity-FOX Lawrence Jones: Millennials don't value patriotism as much as prior generations because of college 'indoctrination' fox-news/us/education/patriotism fox-news/us/education/college fox-news/us/education fox-news/shows/hannity fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc Charles Creitz article 606851bb-c4d3-54af-b0d1-397e1ca674fc

A new survey showing millennials valuing patriotism, family and religion less prominently than past generations is a result of liberal indoctrination on college campuses, according to Lawrence Jones.

America’s younger generations are in danger because of this ideological shift, Jones claimed Monday on “Hannity.”

“We’re teaching them on the college campuses… anti-American rhetoric, anti-capitalism, that Christianity is the only religion that’s bad,” he said.

“We’re not educating them about the other dangers of socialism. Right now the college campuses have been a cesspool for liberal indoctrination, and we’re getting ready to destroy an entire generation just because conservatives, quite frankly, haven’t paid attention to what’s been happening on our college campuses.”

MILLENNIALS CARE LESS ABOUT PATRIOTISM, RELIGION AND FAMILY THAN PREVIOUS GENERATIONS, STUDY SAYS

The survey, conducted by Wall Street Journal/NBC News, began 21 years ago when Americans were asked which values were most important to them and the majority responded that “principles of hard work, patriotism, commitment to religion and the goal of having children” were critical.

“Today, hard work remains atop the list, but the shares of Americans listing the other three values have fallen substantially,” Wall Street Journal reporter Chad Day wrote.

More from media

Patriotism being “very important” fell 9 percent, religion dropped 12 percent and having children fell a whopping 16 percent. Older participants still feel that patriotism is a priority, but younger people aren’t as enthusiastic.

“Among people 55 and older, for example, nearly 80 percent said patriotism was very important, compared with 42 percent of those ages 18-38 — the millennial generation and older members of Gen-Z,” Day noted before adding that the survey did find a few points of unity.

The study indicated that “a majority” of Americans are satisfied with the economy, while two-thirds aren’t confident the next generation will be “better off” than the current generation. The survey indicated the Democrats have changed more than Republicans.

On “Hannity,” Jones said American taxpayers are footing part of the bill for what he called indoctrination on campus.

“Our young people are in danger and we wonder why people like AOC and [Rep. Rashida] Tlaib, and “the Squad” are getting so much support. Their parents are paying for it and the taxpayers are paying for it,” he said.

NFL’s Matt Overton offers to buy tickets from Colts fans upset over Luck retirement

NFL player Matt Overton on Monday offered to buy the tickets of disgruntled Indianapolis Colts fans demanding refunds after the abrupt retirement of quarterback star Andrew Luck.

Overton, who played five seasons with the Colts, said on Twitter that he would be “more than happy” to buy season tickets from “angry fans” and donate them to charity.

“To any angry Colts season ticket holders who are seeking a refund, I’d be more than happy to buy your season tix off of you & donate them to @RileyChildrens patients & their families,” the Jacksonville Jaguars long snapper tweeted. “I’m serious.”

“Riley Hospital is near and dear to me,” Overton told local Indianapolis station WTHR. “It’s near and dear to the entire community of Indianapolis and if we can help these kids and families go to a game and cheer on their favorite team, the Colts, let’s make it happen.”

ANDREW LUCK POTENTIALLY WALKING AWAY FROM $500M WITH RETIREMENT

While it’s not clear how many people actually took up Overton’s offer, a Colts spokesman said the team received only a handful of calls seeking refunds, ESPN reports. The team franchise said sales for single-game and season tickets were selling as normal since Luck’s announcement.

Overton still lives in Indianapolis during the offseason and his fiancée is also from the city. The NFL star said he had not spoken to Luck since announcing his retirement but came to his former teammate’s defense against some of the harsh criticism online.

“You can obviously tell he’s going through a real big struggle and has been for quite some time now,” Overton told  WTHR. “People are questioning his character and his toughness and all that kind of stuff, and I just think it’s B.S.“

“The dude is incredibly strong. He’s obviously going through some very difficult decisions right now and made a very difficult decision to retire,” he added.

“It’s hard on the fan base. It’s hard on the team. It’s hard on the organization. And it’s hard for guys like me who played with him and friends to see him going through that. Just hopeful that he finds that peace and joy and his health going forward.”

Police said officers responded to a call about a stabbing at a home in Riverside, Ohio, Monday evening. The suspect fled the scene and crashed into a tree miles down the road, police said. At some point, the suspect allegedly jumped behind the wheel of a responding officer’s empty police cruiser and took off. He crashed into another police cruiser before slamming into two occupied cars outside the Dayton Metro Library, officials told Cleveland’s Fox 8 reported.

Twelve people, including the suspect, were rushed to the hospital. Several sustained life-threatening injuries. It was unclear how many children were involved and their ages.

Mark Levin blasts CNN’s Brian Stelter for allowing guests to speculate Trump’s mental health

Conservative radio show host Mark Levin blasted CNN host Brian Stelter over a segment that speculated on President Trump‘s mental health, calling him a “sick little bastard.”

“Can you think of a single profundity that has ever come out of this man’s mouth?” Levin asked. “Anything particularly informative or educational or newsworthy?”

Levin played a clip from Sunday’s “Reliable Sources” broadcast, where Stelter told viewers about the president, “The story that’s playing out every day on our TV screens and our Twitter feeds He’s getting worse, we can all see it. But it’s still a very hard, a very sensitive story to cover. I’m talking, of course, about President Trump, about his behavior, about his instability. the contradictions, the lies, the complete rejection of reality.”

“So we all see it?” Levin reacted. “Now he knows that we all don’t see it, not because we’re stupid but because we’re smart… We don’t work in his newsroom. We don’t live in a cloistered, radical leftwing environment. We’re not progressives. We don’t hate the president. We voted for the president. We want him to succeed.”

JOE CONCHA: CNN’S STELTER PUSHING ‘SHAMEFUL, RECKLESS’ NARRATIVE BY BOOKING ANTI-TRUMP PSYCHIATRIST

He continued. “This is why, ladies and gentlemen, the New York Times vs Sullivan rule from the Supreme Court must go. It has to go. It is destroying the media is this country. It’s allowing demagogues, political demagogues who couldn’t get elected dogcatcher to weasel into positions in the media, which is largely leftwing… to drag our country down. This has no relationship to journalism whatsoever.”

“We’re being preached to by the most radical elements in our culture, we’re being denounced, we’re being smeared, the president is being burned and undermined every step of the way… This is an unfree press, a propaganda machine. That’s what it is, a one-way propaganda machine.”

The “Life, Liberty, & Levin” host later slammed the CNN media reporter to calling Trump “mentally unstable and psychologically unfit” without actually examining the president.

CNN GUEST WHO COMPARED TRUMP TO HITLER, STALIN, MAO SLAMMED BY ‘THE FIVE’

“This is reporter. He’s not trained, he’s never analyzed the president. This is really a firing offense,” Levin said. “This is really unconscionable. It is beneath contempt… Who the hell’s Brian Stelter? He’s a nobody. He’s a nobody. He’s a punk.”

He later called the “Reliable Sources” host a “serial liar” who is “as dishonest as they get.”

“I’m old enough to remember that there’s no way a guy like this would be on television. There’s no way any newsroom at its own survival and self-respect… that they would ever, ever a clown like this to perform on their news platform. There’s no way,” Levin said.

Levin went on to challenge Stelter to a “debate” on his radio show “like a man” to discuss media coverage but predicted that he won’t. He ripped Stelter’s panelists for attempting to diagnose Trump and for claiming Trump may be responsible for “many more millions of deaths” than infamous dictators Adolf Hilter, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong. Levin also called Stelter a “sick little bastard” for suggesting he didn’t push back against the guest due to technical difficulties.

David Andrews, the 27-year-old center on the New England Patriots, was reportedly hospitalized on Monday due to a blood clot in his lungs, reports said.

The Boston Globe reported that Andrews hinted at some off-season health issues earlier this month, and said he was “a little bit behind” in his conditioning from years past.

The report said that his season may be in jeopardy.

Ian Rapoport, the NFL insider for the NFL Network, said the health issue just sprung up over the past few days.  The 6’3, 300-pound lineman is a major “lynchpin” for the team’s offense, he said, and provides protection to quarterback Tom Brady.
