Who is Joseph Maguire, the acting director of national intelligence?

Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire Thursday publicly spoke for the first time about a whistleblower complaint involving President Trump.

House Democrats are testing the waters for a possible Trump impeachment and are hoping Maguire, in his appearance before the House Intelligence Committee, will be able to shed light on why the complaint was withheld from Congress for several weeks. There have been multiple media reports that Maguire threatened to resign over concerns that the White House might attempt to force him to stonewall Congress, but Maguire denied he had done so. In a statement, he said that “at no time have I considered resigning my position since assuming this role on Aug. 16, 2019. I have never quit anything in my life, and I am not going to start now.”

Following his morning testimony, Maguire will speak to the Senate intelligence panel behind closed doors.

So who is Joseph Maguire?

Maguire is the acting director of national intelligence, the Cabinet-level official who leads the United States Intelligence Community. The position was created in 2005  by a 9/11 panel set up to examine intelligence failures after the attacks. Maguire, who had previously served as the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, moved into the role earlier this year after Director Dan Coats resigned.

Maguire has only been in the position for fewer than two months.

Maguire is a retired naval officer and was previously a vice president at Booz Hamilton. He retired from the U.S. Navy after a 36-year career that included leading the Naval Special Warfare Command. Maguire also served as the president and CEO of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Maguire attended Manhattan College for his bachelor’s degree, and earned his master’s degree in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School in California, according to Maguire’s biography.

There was some controversy leading up to his appointment. President Trump had announced Maguire’s appointment via tweet following the resignation of Sue Gordon from the DNI. Conservatives had largely viewed Gordon as part of the intelligence community that clashed with Trump the most. Trump had initially tapped Rep. John Ratcliffe to lead the intelligence committee but the Texas lawmaker withdrew his name after stories emerged that he may have padded his resume.

Shaquille O’Neal admits he was ‘ring chasing’ when he joined Boston Celtics in 2010

Westlake Legal Group Shaquille-ONea Shaquille O'Neal admits he was 'ring chasing' when he joined Boston Celtics in 2010 Ryan Gaydos fox-news/sports/nba/boston-celtics fox-news/sports/nba fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox news fnc/sports fnc c8b2f2a7-a205-5a07-b97a-2f23829ae9f7 article

Shaquille O’Neal on Wednesday admitted he was ring chasing when he joined the Boston Celtics before the start of the 2010-11 season after a stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Hall of Famer center appeared on FS1’s “Fair Game with Kristine Leahy” and explained he was looking for another championship ring after three with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miami Heat. O’Neal admitted he retired a year too early after signing a two-year contract with Boston.

NETS NOT PLANNING FOR DURANT TO PLAY THIS SEASON

O’Neal said he was looking forward to a farewell tour in the final year of his contract, but when he suffered an injury in his first season with the Celtics, it threw everything off. He said he felt like he would be robbing fans and robbing the Celtics if he couldn’t play up to his expectations.

“In my mind I’m like I’m used to parades and banners and making people complain to the refs and making people say ‘Oh we playin’ against Shaq? I don’t want to play tonight.’ That’s what I want to be remembered as,” he said.

“And growing up in that military family, my father says you always gotta look a man or a woman in the face and be honest. And I felt like I was robbing them. I didn’t feel right. [Coach Doc Rivers] told me when I came in ‘We’re not going to need you to do much. Just rebound.’ And I accepted and said O.K.

“I just wanted to try to …. I was ring chasing. I’m being honest. Yeah, I was ring chasing.”

O’Neal said he thinks if he wouldn’t have gotten hurt or if they would have kept Kendrick Perkins during the season, they would have won the championship.

“I was ring chasing, I really was,” O’Neal said. “But I wanted to help [Paul Pierce] because Paul was one of my favorite players and I love [Kevin Garnett].”

O’Neal played 37 games that season with Boston and started 36 of them. He averaged 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game — the lowest numbers of his illustrious career.

The Celtics finished with a 56-26 record and won the Atlantic Division title. The team, however, lost to the Miami Heat in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Antonio Brown drawing interest from ‘a few teams’ despite multiple sexual assault allegations, agent says

Westlake Legal Group Antonio-Brown1 Antonio Brown drawing interest from 'a few teams' despite multiple sexual assault allegations, agent says Ryan Gaydos fox-news/sports/nfl fox-news/person/antonio-brown fox news fnc/sports fnc article 7ca9a3fb-e594-50ea-b29d-4ac55010d078

Despite a rash retirement from the NFL, Antonio Brown is still drawing interest from several teams, agent Drew Rosenhaus said Wednesday.

Rosenhaus explained on Warren Sapp’s “99 Problems” podcast that Brown’s abrupt “retirement” from the league was premature and that he believes Brown still wants to play in the league.

ANTONIO BROWN ATTENDS DEPOSITION IN CONDO-TRASHING CASE; FOOTAGE SHOWS FURNITURE RAINING DOWN ON COMPLEX POOL

“I believe that Antonio wants to continue his career in the NFL and I’ve mentioned that. I have had discussions with a few teams that are very interested in him and want to know about his future and what’s going on with the NFL,” Rosenhaus said. “Hopefully, when that is all resolved, Antonio will be able to continue his Hall of Fame career. That’s really where our focus is.”

Brown was released by the New England Patriots after one game and just 11 days with the team. He was accused of sexual assault and rape in a civil lawsuit filed in Florida, and a separate sexual assault and allegation surfaced in a report in Sports Illustrated last week. Brown was released after that report.

ANTONIO BROWN BACK TO SCHOOL AT CENTRAL MICHIGAN AFTER PATRIOTS RELEASE

Meanwhile, Brown announced he was taking classes at Central Michigan University and appeared at a deposition hearing over a furniture-throwing case. Rosenhaus said he encourages all his clients to finish their degrees or receive a post-graduate degree and that Brown taking the classes doesn’t mean the wide receiver is finished with football completely.

“I know there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether or not that means he’s not going to proceed with the NFL but taking online college courses to get your degree or your post-graduate degree is something that I would recommend to every client. I wouldn’t read too much into that,” he said.

He added: “Obviously, it’s a very difficult time for him not playing. We expected him to be playing against the Jets on Sunday. So it’s tough. It’s tough for someone who loves the game not to be playing right now and the hope is that we will cooperate with the NFL and their investigation and get him back with a team to continue this tremendous career that he’s had.”

Rosenhaus didn’t specify how many teams have shown interest in Brown since his release. A source told Pro Football Talk that at least three teams had shown interest.

Demi Moore says Ashton Kutcher hosted a party with Jenna and Barbara Bush, did ‘bong hits’

Demi Moore claims in her new book that Jenna and Barbara Bush smoked out of a bong at her ex-husband Ashton Kutcher’s Beverly Hills mansion while their father was still the president.

In her book “Inside Out,” Moore, 56, recalls a time early in their relationship when she and her three daughters went to live with Kutcher, 41, while her own home was being renovated.

She notes that “it had been a straight-up L.A. party house” prior to their arrival.

She recounted a story in which the daughters of former President George W. Bush had come back to the home before she lived there and, “ended up doing bong hits at that house at one of Ashton’s parties.”

She continued: “He was sure that the Secret Service was listening in on his calls from then on.”

Reps for the Bush twins did not immediately respond to Fox News’ requests for comment.

Kutcher himself previously recounted the story in a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone. However, in his version, the girls allegedly used a hookah instead of a bong.

As Kutcher tells it, he was at a Nike party with some friends when he met the girls and invited them back to his place after.

“So we’re hanging out,” Kutcher says. “The Bushes were underage-drinking at my house. When I checked outside, one of the Secret Service guys asked me if they’d be spending the night. I said no. And then I go upstairs to see another friend, and I can smell the green waiting out under his door. I open the door, and there he is smoking out the Bush twins on his hookah.”

The next morning, the “That ’70s Show” star said he picked up his phone and there was no dial tone, prompting him to think the Secret Service had tapped his phone.

Moore and Kutcher began dating in 2003 after meeting at a dinner with mutual friends, People reported. They were married from 2005 and separated in 2011, following reports that Kutcher had cheated on Moore. The pair eventually divorced in 2013.

Moore talks about her ex’s cheating in her book and also claims that he pressured her into threesomes and encouraged her to break her sobriety. She also discusses more personal, intimate details about her life, such as having a miscarriage when she was six months pregnant with her and Kutcher’s child and being raped at 15-years-old by a man who paid her mother $500.

Former college football player returns to US after serving 3 years in China prison over bar fight

Former college football player Wendell Brown returned to the U.S. on Wednesday, three years after he was sent to a Chinese prison for allegedly assaulting a man during a bar fight.

Brown, a Detroit native who played linebacker for Ball State University, was teaching English and coaching American football in China when he was arrested in September 2016 and charged with international assault. Brown denied hitting the man and witnesses said he was the one being harassed.

The court ruled that Brown “didn’t do enough to de-escalate the situation,” according to the San Francisco-based rights monitoring group, the Dui Hua Foundation.

Upon his return home, Brown reflected on his freedom.

“We don’t really understand that word to its fullest extent until [we’re] without it,” Brown said. “Hallelujah! I’m free!”

Brown didn’t divulge too much about the Chongqing incident or his treatment in prison.

“I had water. I was able to live. I was safe,” he said, adding he lost about 30 pounds. “I’m just very fortunate that it’s over. I’m blessed to finally be back in my family’s presence.”

Brown, 32, said he plans to head to Florida in a few days to spend time with his 12-year-old son. He said he plans to travel abroad again and has no intention of telling other would-be travelers to avoid China.

Trump takes on the ‘Queen of Mean’: resurfaced video in new documentary

In the annals of New York’s real estate history, the Empire State Building and the real estate mogul and future president, Donald Trump hold a special place.

In Fox Nation’s new docu-series, “American Built,” Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy delved into the story of the one-time, world’s tallest skyscraper and he found the current occupant of the White House in the middle of it all.

HOW AN ICONIC AMERICAN LANDMARK NEARLY LOOKED VERY DIFFERENT THAN IT DOES TODAY

In 1991, after a downturn in the New York real estate, the owners of the Empire State Building sold the building and the land beneath it to a Japanese billionaire investor.

The new owners reportedly decided that in order to maximize their investment they would need to break an existing lease controlling the building, and they brought in an established New York real estate icon to help — that was Donald Trump.

The challenge for Trump was that the lease was held by a couple, with which he already had a difficult history, Harry and Leona Helmsley.

“In a deal packaged by Donald Trump but not involving his personal money, Trump and others have acquired for $42 million dollars the Empire State Building itself.  That’s where Leona and Harry Helmsley come in.  They control the building through a lease that runs to the year 2075, and according to them they plan no changes — especially now Leona’s arch-enemy, Donald owns the building,” reported a local New York City journalist at the time.

Leona Helmsley became known as a symbol of 1980s greed and earned the nickname “the Queen of Mean” after her 1988 indictment and subsequent conviction for tax evasion. One employee had quoted her as saying, “Only the little people pay taxes.”

In the newly-resurfaced video in “American Built: Empire State Building,” Trump went after the woman that he saw as standing in the way of his plans.

“I’m not a huge fan of Leona.  I haven’t been a huge fan of Leona, never will be a huge fan of Leona.  But right now at this moment, they have a lease and we’ll see about that lease,” said Trump in 1994, “I have a lease on the building and the land and we’re all going to make a determination as to what is happening.”

“Trump went to court to try to break the existing land-lease, but a judge ruled against him, and he wound up selling his share for $57.5 million” narrated Doocy.

The Fox Nation show re-examined the planning of the Empire State Building in the roaring 1920s and the building of what would become the tallest building in the world at the time in the 1930s, in the midst of the Great Depression.

After the September 11th terror attacks, the Empire State Building would briefly become the tallest building in New York City again, and it’s significance resonated with many at the time.

“The World Trade Center surpassed it as the tallest building in the world. And when that was gone you know the Empire State Building had lost that partner in the city skyline and in the history of New York City,” said Kate Lemos McHale of the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission.

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic may not be able to fight until 2020 after suffering a significant eye injury during his bout against Daniel Cormier in August.

Miocic’s agent, Jim Walter, told ESPN on Wednesday his client “sustained a major retina injury.”

“Mr. Miocic sustained a major retina injury from multiple eye pokes during his bout at UFC 241,” Walter said. “Our client’s health and safety is our top priority. We are excited for him to return to action when he is healthy to compete in his seventh consecutive world title fight.”

Miocic is expected to see a doctor again to determine if another procedure is needed on his eye, according to MMA Fighting. It’s now likely that Miocic’s next bout, possibly against Cormier, won’t happen until next year.

“I’m gonna fight this guy again,” Cormier said on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” on Monday. “My intention is to fight him in the right way. … It has to be against Stipe, no one else matters.”

A Florida man was arrested Monday in a months-old attack during which he allegedly using a samurai sword to threaten and assault a jogger as they fought over a wheelbarrow the victim said he found in a pile of trash.

Curtis Miller, 54, was taken into custody on attempted murder charges stemming from an altercation on July 15, according to online records from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Curtis Miller, 54, was charged second-degree attempted murder after he was caught on surveillance video allegedly using a samurai sword to fight over a wheelbarrow in Oakland Park, Fla., in July. (Broward County Sheriff’s Office)

“When he pulled out the sword, I thought, ‘What am I doing?’ I thought, ‘Is he really going to do this?’” Beavers told WSVN. “I couldn’t believe that he was really gonna try to kill me for a cart.”

Beavers was jogging when he spotted what he thought was a pile of trash up for grabs — at the same time Miller spotted it.

Keyla Concepcion, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, told the news outlet “[Miller] apparently felt that he was there first, so he should have first dibs at anything that was in the pile…Evidently, the jogger felt differently.”

After the alleged altercation, Beavers jogged home — but he said he didn’t realize until he’d almost reached his house that Miller followed him.

“I turned behind me, and he had a sword out, chasing me, so I just kept running,” Beavers said. Outside of his home, surveillance cameras captured a man identified by officials as Miller trying to slash Beavers with a sword.

In the end, Beavers didn’t even get the cart. A woman was caught on surveillance video removing the cart from Beavers’ property. She claimed the wheelbarrow was stolen from her property, where she was having a garage sale — but she said the cart wasn’t for sale.

“I really regret it,” the man who almost got attacked by a samurai sword said. “By the time I got here with the cart and he was still chasing me, I felt like, ‘What did I get myself into for a stupid cart?’ I don’t even need it. I just felt really stupid about it.”

Sen. Portman: ‘I don’t see the quid pro quo’ that Dems are claiming in Trump’s Ukraine call

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said Wednesday on “Fox News @ Night” that he does not agree with Democrats who allege a “quid pro quo” was offered by President Trump to the president of Ukraine.

“I don’t see the quid pro quo that the Democrats are claiming. In fact, I actually believe that if Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi and the Democrats had taken another 24 hours to make their decision and actually looked at the facts — which is the transcript itself — they might not have moved forward because there is no quid pro quo,” he told anchor Shannon Bream.

Democrats allege there was an implied quid pro quo from Trump when he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate potential 2020 rival Joe Biden and Biden’s son Hunter for possible corruption in exchange for military aid.

Portman said after reading the transcript of the July phone call, released Wednesday by the White House, he does not believe it helps the Democrats’ case for impeachment.

“I don’t see it. I just don’t understand how they can say it’s because there’s a quid pro quo. And then we find out there’s not a quid pro quo that they’re still proceeding,” he said, claiming Trump was hesitant to provide the nearly $400 million in aid without the Europeans also committing to spending more.

Portman, the co-chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus, said he had been urging Vice President Mike Pence and top U.S. officials to release the funds ahead of Trump’s call with Zelensky, which became the focus of a whistleblower complaint.

“And on that date, I called the president because we were getting the point where the funds had to be released. And the president was very clear with me. He only raised one issue … and that was about the Europeans not doing enough,” he said.

Select members of the congressional intelligence committees on Wednesday afternoon received the whistleblower complaint and related documents that have sparked the impeachment inquiry, reviewing the materials in closed session.

The House also voted on a resolution Wednesday to have the complaint by an unnamed member of the intelligence community released to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees before scheduled hearings Thursday with Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire.

Utah Republican Rep. Chris Stewart announced on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” and on social media late Wednesday that the explosive whistleblower complaint had been declassified — and Stewart said that it doesn’t contain any damning information.
