Bobcats caught on camera running amok in Utah neighborhoods

A family of bobcats was spotted roaming through Salt Lake City and Millcreek in Utah in broad daylight this week, a rarity for the animals.

“For them to be seen in a neighborhood — full daylight, in kind of an urban area — is a little bit more unusual,” Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) spokesperson Faith Heaton Jolley told Fox 13.

The stunning video showed a mother bobcat and her cubs scampering through backyards.

UTAH MAN WHO SURVIVED 5 DAYS LOST IN MONTANA WILDERNESS RECALLS ‘PROMISE’ HE GAVE TO WIFE

Jolley told the station that the bobcat population has declined this year due to what biologists believe to be a decrease in the number of rabbits, a frequent source of food.

“The theory is, when they [bobcats] do come into urban areas, they’re typically just looking for other food sources,” she said.

Although the neighborhoods have seen other wildlife activity, including deer, quail, snakes and even hawks, bobcats have been a rarity. The DWR warned the cats are “cute but wild!”

“One of our biologists has speculated, maybe the mother was trying to teach her kittens to hunt,” Jolley said. “We’re kind of speculating that it’s the same family of bobcats traveling through.”

The DWR warned people living in the area to “bring your pets in at night and watch the bobcats from a distance,” to avoid danger.

Ex-Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne says he got ‘fishy’ orders from Peter Strzok; former acting AG unsure of claims

Westlake Legal Group MacCallum-Byrne_FOX Ex-Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne says he got 'fishy' orders from Peter Strzok; former acting AG unsure of claims fox-news/tech/topics/fbi fox-news/shows/the-story fox-news/politics fox-news/person/william-barr fox-news/news-events/russia-investigation fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc f97b1ed5-54c6-5b5f-afa9-8c48ee29a3af Charles Creitz article

Overstock founder and CEO Patrick Byrne, who resigned Thursday amid ties to a government probe related to the 2016 election, claimed he received “fishy” orders from former FBI official Peter Strzok.

Byrne said Thursday on “The Story” he’d helped the federal government with investigations twice in the past, including to “help them take down people on Wall Street.”

Several years after Byrne’s last contact with the government, he said FBI officials reached out to him in 2016.

“I was given some fishy orders and I carried them out in 2015-2016, thinking I was conducting law enforcement,” he said.

OVERSTOCK CEO PATRICK BYRNE RESIGNS AMID RUSSIAN SPY LINK, ‘DEEP STATE’ COMMENTS

He claimed people who he characterized as, “the Men in Black” came to him and asked him, “for this third favor.”

Byrne clarified to host Martha MacCallum that FBI rank-and-file were “barely involved” in what he alleged transpired.

“It’s all the top [people],” he said.

More from media

“I didn’t know who sent the orders, but I did them. Last summer, watching television and some congressional hearings, I figured out where these orders came from. They came from a guy named Peter Strzok.” Byrne also named other individuals, with MacCallum reminding him those officials or former officials worked at the FBI.

Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation over anti- Trump text messages he traded with his mistress, Lisa Page. He was fired from the FBI in August of 2018.

FLASHBACK: FBI FIRES PETER STRZOK, MONTHS AFTER ANTI-TRUMP TEXTS REVEALED

MacCallum asked Byrne what Strzok purportedly asked him to do. Byrne did not describe specific actions he was allegedly told to take, but characterized them as “political espionage.”

The former CEO added that he began a relationship with Maria Butina, a Russian national currently serving prison time in the U.S. for failing to register as a foreign agent.

Byrne said that all of the purported information he gleaned from his experiences ultimately landed in the hands of Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, who has been conducting an investigation into the origins of the Russia probe at the behest of Attorney General William Barr.

Last month, Byrne disclosed he was involved in an FBI probe into the Russia investigation and admitted to having a relationship with Butina. In an Aug.12 statement, he said it was the third time in his life that he “helped the Men in Black: the first was when my friend [former NBA player] Brian Williams was murdered, and the second was when I helped the M.I.B. shake up Wall Street a decade ago.”

After Byrne’s interview, MacCallum asked former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker to respond to the former business executive’s claims.

“He’s describing it like he was being used as a source and being inserted into a situation by the feds, and there are protocols for handling sources,” Whitaker said. “All of this can be corroborated. That’s the key. This whole situation has to be corroborated and the nice thing about John Durham is that he has the full picture of everything that was feeding into this investigation.”

When asked by MacCallum whether Byrne appeared credible, the former Iowa federal prosecutor said he was unsure.

“It’s hard for me to say,” he remarked.

2 Green Berets killed in combat in Afghanistan identified

The military released the names of the two Green Berets who were killed Wednesday during combat supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.

Master Sgt. Luis F. Deleon-Figueroa, 31, and Master Sgt. Jose J. Gonzalez, 35, died as a result of small arms fire in northern Faryab Province, the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Command told Fox News.

Both were members of 7th Special Forces Group, based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

Master Sgt. Luis F. Deleon-Figueroa, 31, pictured, and Master Sgt. Jose J. Gonzalez, 35, died as a result of small arms fire in northern Faryab Province. Both were members of 7th Special Forces Group, which is based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

Deleon-Figueroa was from Chicopee, Mass., and served in the Army for more than 13 years. He became a Green Beret in 2014 and was deployed twice to Afghanistan and twice to South America.

Gonzalez, a native of La Puente, Calif., joined 7th Group in 2014. He was posthumously promoted to Master Sergeant. His family requested that no photo or additional information be released.

“It was an honor having them serve within the ranks of 7th SFG (A). They were a part of our Family, and will not be forgotten,” said Col. John W. Sannes, 7th SFG (A) commander in a statement to Fox News.

“Our Priority is to now provide the best possible care to the Families of our fallen warriors” added Sannes. “We ask that you keep their Families and teammates in your thoughts and prayers.”

The deaths came as U.S. envoy Zalmay Khalilzad resumed negotiations with the Taliban aimed at ending America’s longest war. There have been eight previous rounds of negotiations over the past year, and key issues include the withdrawal of American troops, a cease-fire, intra-Afghan talks, and Taliban guarantees that Afghanistan will not once again become a launch pad for global terror attacks.

There are still about 14,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and persistent attacks by both the Taliban and the Islamic State group affiliate continue to plague the country. The U.S. and NATO ended combat operations in Afghanistan in 2014, but troops remain to train and advise Afghan forces and to conduct counterterror operations against insurgents.

The two deaths bring the number of American military fatalities in Afghanistan this year to 14, exceeding the 2018 total.

More than 2,400 U.S. service personnel have died in Afghanistan since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001 to topple the Taliban, whose government had harbored Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden.

Missing Cipriani head chef’s body found at New York hostel, police say

The body of a head chef at a popular New York City restaurant was found dead Wednesday at a hostel in Queens after he had been missing for four days, police told Fox News.

Andrea Zamperoni, who had been a chef at Cipriani Dolci in Grand Central Station for nearly a decade, did not show up for work on Monday, causing coworkers to worry and alert law enforcement, the New York Police Department said.

“We have sadly learned that Andrea Zamperoni, a well-respected and beloved member of the Cipriani team for many years, who went missing last Sunday has been found deceased,” the restaurant told Fox News in a statement Thursday.

“His brother is overcome with grief and regrets he will not be available to provide any comments.  We will keep Andrea’s family in our thoughts and prayers and respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Flemish politicians jokingly offer Trump part of Belgium for 1 euro

A group of Flemish nationalist politicians on Thursday joked that President Trump could buy a southern region in Belgium at a steal – for only 1 euro – after Danish leaders spurned his idea to buy Greenland.

The youth wing of the New Flemish Alliance tweeted a proposal for Trump to purchase Wallonia, a Dutch-speaking region of Belgium that has seen a surge of nationalist and separatist Flemish parties in recent years, Euronews reported.

“Dear President @realDonaldTrump, one euro and Wallonia is yours. Call us. #GreenlandIsNotForSale,” Jong N-VA, the youth wing of the New Flemish Alliance, the tweet read.

The tweet was accompanied with a photo of a “Trump” building resembling one tweeted by the president earlier this week that showed Trump Tower over a Greenland village with the caption: “I promise not to do this to Greenland!”

“It was just a joke aimed at a young Flemish audience, going along with something trending on Twitter, nothing more,” Jong N-VA President Lawrence Vancraeyenest told Euronews. “I sincerely hope there is still room for some humor in politics. Especially young people need that.”

The N-VA won 43 seats in Belgium’s 150-seat parliament in the latest elections.

Trump’s idea to buy Greenland was met with ridicule and disdain from Danish and Greenland leaders. The Arctic island is a semi-autonomous Danish territory with a population of around 56,000.

Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, called the idea “absurd” and said Greenland is not for sale. Frederiksen’s response seemingly bothered Trump, who canceled a scheduled September visit to the country.

“Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time,” Trump tweeted Tuesday.

Gutfeld on Cuomo’s Trump aging conspiracy

Once the face of hard news, CNN is now the butt of America’s jokes.

The latest oddity?

Chris Cuomo conspires over President Trump’s appearance.

CNN’S CHRIS CUOMO SUGGESTS TRUMP’S APPARENT LACK OF AGING SHOWS HE ‘DOESN’T CARE’ ABOUT COUNTRY ENOUGH

Yep. He looks exactly the same as when he became president, and that can’t be good.

“Look at presidents when they come in and when they leave,” Cuomo said. “I mean, come on, look at Clinton’s hair, it went white. George W. Bush looks like he got a beat down. Obama looks like his own grandfather. I mean, look at it. I mean, this is a very hard job, because of the stress that they carry with them. Now let’s look at this president. It’s been almost three years since Trump won the presidency. It looks exactly the same. His hair is like, I don’t know what’s going on with that. But he may do things that presidents in the past haven’t done to augment their physical reality. But it could also be that he doesn’t care the way others have.”

More from Opinion

Only on the Clown News Network can an anchor wonder if the president is “augmenting his physical reality.”

In other words, what the hell does this mean?

But I guess they’ve run out of ways to say Trump is crazy. They moved on to, “He somehow has magically stopped the aging process.”

I don’t know about you, but I would maybe leave the paranormal analysis to experts in crop circles.

Meanwhile, you have to wonder how much CNN pays for this political analysis.

CNN’s chief political analyst, Gloria Borger said in another discussion: “I think maybe his mommy should have told him she loved him a little bit more. I don’t know. It is hard, it’s just hard to know.”

Someone has a future in online psychology.

So, Gloria, you did Trump, so now tell us why Chris is so angry.

Talk about never aging. She looks great. The only thing that gets old is her schtick.

Only CNN could frame “not aging” as a bad thing. Imagine if Trump was showing his age. “Cuomotose” would say the job is wearing him down so much it’s now a serious threat to the survival of our republic.

But no such luck.

Breathing polluted air is deadlier than previously believed, new study claims

Rising levels of pollution worldwide are increasing the likelihood that people will die early, according to a sweeping new study.

The New England Journal of Medicine examined levels of particulate matter and daily death rates in 652 cities in 24 countries over the course of three decades. It is believed to be the biggest international study on the short-term impacts of air pollution on mortality.

ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS SUE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION FOR WEAKENING ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT

Although scientists already knew that breathing in polluted air is bad for your health — it can damage a person’s lungs and heart and increase the risk of certain diseases — the NEJM study is focused on how even small amounts of particulate matter can have a negative impact.

According to the study, the two countries that saw the largest increase in mortality rates as air pollution levels went up are Australia and Brazil. The latter country has recently seen its Amazon rainforest burn at a much faster rate than normal.

Mortality rates increased by .68 percent for fine particulate matter in the study, and researchers said that even that increase is significant when examining large cities.

“If we’re looking at a population of one million people in a city, well, 1 percent is significant and it can affect a lot of people,” Eric Lavigne, a co-author of the study, told The Verge. Lavigne is a professor at the University of Ottawa and a senior epidemiologist for Canada’s Public Health Agency.

North Dakota court overturns life term for man whose girlfriend cut baby from neighbor’s womb

A man who was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping a baby who was cut from his neighbor’s womb by his girlfriend and lying to police about it will receive a new hearing after the North Dakota Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the original sentence did not fit the elements of the crime.

William Hoehn, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping, received a life sentence because the judge in the case granted prosecutors’ request to designate him a dangerous special offender, which carries a life sentence.

Savanna Greywind was eight months pregnant when she disappeared from her apartment in north Fargo in August 2017. Her body later turned in Red River. Her baby had been cut from her womb but survived the attack.

Rather than impose the maximum sentence of 21 years in prison on the kidnapping charge, Judge Tom Olson designated Hoehn a dangerous special offender, which carries the maximum sentence of life with the possibility of parole, for which he’d be eligible in 25 to 30 years.

The prosecutor’s request was based on Hoehn’s prior conviction of child abuse in 2012 when his son suffered multiple fractures to his skull after being in Hoehn’s care.

Hoehn, 34, appealed his sentence arguing that the district court incorrectly labeled him a dangerous offender because the crimes to which he pleaded guilty did not seriously endanger the life of another and he didn’t have any similar prior convictions. Hoehn also claimed that the district court didn’t adequately advise him of the possible sentencing ramifications of entering a guilty plea, KFYR reported citing court documents.

The state Supreme Court upheld the conviction but said a comparison of the elements of the kidnapping crime with the child abuse charge from 2012 did not support the finding that the two offenses were comparable, thus a dangerous special offender label was unsubstantiated.

Hoehn’s defense attorney, Kiara Kraus-Parr, said it was a “pretty clear-cut case” and she had been “cautiously optimistic” her client would prevail.

“I think the state overreached in what they charged, as far the special dangerous offender,” she told The Associated Press.

Hoehn’s resentencing may occur as soon as in two weeks, notwithstanding the prosecution filing for a rehearing.

Hoehn’s girlfriend, Brooke Crews, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Crews, 40, told the jury in Hoehn’s trial that she feigned pregnancy because she was afraid of Hoehn ending their relationship, but once he discovered she was lying, he told her she needed “to produce a baby,” which Crews interpreted as an “ultimatum.”

Crews said she never explicitly told Hoehn what she planned to do, but when he arrived home, he saw Greywind bleeding and dying, along with her newborn baby, and he twisted a rope around Greywind’s neck to make sure she was dead. A coroner was unable to determine whether the cause of death was strangulation or blood loss.

Hoehn denied knowing anything about Crews’ plan to kill Greywind and take her baby, but he admitted he hid the newborn and gave false information to law enforcement to cover up the crime.

Greywind, 22, was a member of the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe and her family had ties to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.

Her death sparked outrage from Native American activists who urged Congress to pass a bill, Savanna’s Act, spearheaded by then-Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat. The bill, which remained under consideration, would improve tribal access to federal crime information databases and create standardized protocols for responding to cases of missing and murdered Native American women.

Greywind’s now-2-year-old daughter, Haisley Jo, lives with her grandparents near Red River, not far from the same spot that Greywind’s body was found.

Norberta Greywind, Haisley Jo’s grandmother, begged the court to impose the maximum sentence on Hoehn and never let him walk free again.

“My life has been forever changed. As for Savanna’s daughter, this man tried to take her and raise her as his own. He said the days he spent with my granddaughter were the happiest days of his life. How sick is that?” she said during sentencing.
