CNN’s Cuomo hits Trump’s lack of aging in office, suggests he ‘doesn’t care’ like other presidents

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo suggested that President Trump hasn’t aged as much as his predecessors because he doesn’t care as much about the country’s problems.

“It’s been almost three years since Trump won the presidency,” Cuomo said during his show, “Cuomo Prime Time,” on Tuesday. “He looks exactly the same.”

“His hair is—I don’t know what’s going on with that. But he may do things that presidents in the past haven’t done to augment their physical reality, but it could also be he doesn’t care the way others have,” he added.

Cuomo’s monologue came in response to Trump telling reporters that “nothing” kept him up at night. “The president told us a very important truth tonight,” Cuomo commented.

He went on to show a clip of former President Obama saying that “a lot of things” kept him up at night as president. “Now while I wish poor sleep on no man, maybe this president could use a sleepless night or two, less executive time, fewer hours in front of the TV and on the golf course,” he said.

Cuomo flashed side-by-side photos of Obama along with former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton before and after they left office.

“I mean come on, look at Clinton’s hair — went white,” Cuomo said. “George W. Bush looks like he got a beat down. Obama looks like his own grandfather … this is a very hard job because of the stress they carry with them.”

Cuomo ticked off a series of complaints he had with Trump’s performance, arguing he didn’t “deal with the trying business of compromise” and created “discord for no reason.” He added that Trump had “no real deals going with Congress” and seemed indifferent to concerns farmers had over his tariffs.

A key member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” Olympic hockey team was arrested August 15 after allegedly assaulting his Minnesota neighbor with a metal pipe after the two had gone fishing, police said.

Mark Pavelich, 61, was arrested on charges of second- and third-degree assault, possession of an illegal shortened shotgun and possessing a gun with a missing serial number, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. He was held in lieu of $250,000 bail and ordered to undergo a mental health check.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS OFFICIAL WINS $1 MILLION POWERBALL PRIZE

The man who called the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to report the assault told dispatch he was struck by a metal pole-wielding Pavelich at the former hockey player’s home after the two men spent the day fishing together. Pavelich allegedly accused the man of “spiking his beer” the paper reported, citing a criminal complaint.

Cook County deputies said Pavelich’s neighbor was “in shock” with “observable injuries and an obvious disfigurement of his leg,” the Duluth News-Tribune reported, citing the complaint. The man reportedly suffered two cracked ribs, a bruised left kidney and fractured vertebrae.

Upon further investigation, authorities discovered a shotgun with the butt of the gun replaced by a tree branch inside Pavelich’s home, according to the Star Tribune. The serial number had also been removed from the firearm.

A judge ordered Pavelich on Monday to undergo a mental health evaluation to see if he was mentally competent to stand trial. He is set to return to court Oct. 20.

Pavelich played a key role on the “Miracle on Ice” team that defeated the Soviet Union in the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y., with Pavelich assisting on two goals that helped the Americans beat the Soviets, 4-3.

Defiant Trump digs in amid battles on trade, guns, Israel: ‘I am the chosen one’

A defiant President Trump sparred with reporters Wednesday in a testy back-and-forth for more than a half-hour as he dug in over his positions on the trade war with China, gun control, the apparent pursuit of a Greenland real estate deal, the treatment of migrants at the border and his comments on Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar.

“I am the chosen one,” the president said at one point from the South Lawn of the White House, defending his moves on trade, saying “somebody had to do it, so I’m taking on China.”

TRUMP SUGGESTS DEMS’ JEWISH VOTERS LACK KNOWLEDGE OR SHOW ‘GREAT DISLOYALTY,’ AMID OMAR-TLAIB FEUD

In comments made before boarding Marine One, Trump also doubled down on his recent assertion that Jewish-Americans who vote for Democrats show “great disloyalty” because of the party’s embrace of Tlaib and Omar, amid an outcry from Democrats over his comments.

“In my opinion, if you vote for a Democrat you’re being very disloyal to Jewish people and you’re being very disloyal to Israel and only weak people would say anything other than that,” Trump said.

Democrats have called Trump out for his use of the word “disloyalty,” with some likening it to anti-Semitic language that American Jews are more loyal to Israel than America.

The president also insisted he is still considering supporting stronger background checks for gun buyers, denying that he told the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre this week he had taken it off the table.

“I didn’t say anything about that,” Trump said, though adding that the country currently has “strong background checks” on the books but he still wants “to close loopholes.”

The president was pressed over his administration announcing Wednesday it would move to scrap a major court agreement known as the Flores agreement in order to allow for migrant families to be detained longer as their cases are being considered, instead of having to release them after 20 days. “”This new rule will do even more to bring them together,” Trump said.

He defended his administration’s treatment of migrants at the border, while saying he gets blamed for things that started under his predecessor. “President Obama had separation, President Obama built the cells, the cages that you people talk about and attribute them to me,” he said.

And he suggested that his administration is considering how to revoke birthright citizenship, which allows anyone born in the U.S. to automatically become an American citizen

“We’re looking at birthright citizenship very seriously,” Trump said. “It’s frankly very ridiculous.”

On other issues, he defended his interest in the United States acquiring Greenland – despite Denmark’s unwillingness to negotiate – calling it a “very good idea.” On Tuesday, Trump said he was canceling a meeting with Denmark’s leader over her critical comments about his interest in Greenland.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had called the idea “absurd.” Trump on Thursday called those comments “nasty.”

He also referenced left-wing protesters who recently clashed with right-wing activists in Portland, saying he considers Antifa “a terrorist organization.”

After speaking for more than 30 minutes, the president boarded Marine One to embark on a trip to Kentucky, where he is set to deliver remarks at the American Veterans 75th National Convention in Louisville.

Loch Ness monster theory ‘plausible,’ scientist claims

A team of international scientists has come up with a theory described as “plausible” that could help explain the Loch Ness Monster.

University of Otago geneticist Neil Gemmell said that there have been more than 1,000 sightings of something unknown in Loch Ness, but there are only four explanations for what it could be.

“Our research essentially discounts most of those theories, however, one theory remains plausible,” Gemmell said in comments obtained by the BBC.

LOCH NESS MONSTER: THIS IS SCOTLAND’S PLAN IF THE FABLED BEAST IS CAUGHT

Gemmell added that the findings from his study, which was announced in May 2018, will be revealed on September 5.

As part of the study, Gemmell and other researchers took 250 water samples from various depths. In the samples, there was DNA left by a number of creatures, including skin, scale, feather, fur and feces.

While the researchers did not spot the so-called sea monster, Gemmell, who is described as an expert in genomics, ecology, population, conservation and evolutionary biology, said in June that the results of the study were “surprising.”

One of Scotland’s oldest myths, that a creature was living in Loch Ness, dates back to the sixth century. The 19th and 20th centuries, in particular, saw an increase in interest, especially after the infamous “surgeon’s photograph” in 1934.

A study published in April suggested that the legend of the Loch Ness monster and other long-necked “sea monsters” may have been influenced by something very real and even more terrifying — dinosaurs.

The legend of the Loch Ness monster has commonly been attributed to a plesiosaur that somehow managed to survive the mass extinction event that killed off the dinosaurs.

A Wisconsin woman who tripped over her dog in June 2015 is still dealing with the ramifications of what seemed like a simple rug burn after she landed in the intensive care unit just days later battling internal bleeding and organ failure.

The fall, which had produced an entryway for a deadly bacteria to enter her bloodstream, initially cost Alecia Kennen parts of her fingers and all of her toes, but just a few months ago it ultimately also claimed her right leg from below-the-knee, Fox 9 reported.

MAN’S BELOVED DOG DIES JUST 15 MINUTES AFTER OWNER’S CANCER DEATH, FAMILY SAYS

Kennen, who is sharing her story with Fox 9 in hopes of warning others about the seriousness of Group A strep and toxic shock syndrome (TSS), told the news outlet that when she went to the hospital her nurse and doctors knew “right away that something was wrong,” but because her illness was so severe they initially couldn’t figure out what was causing it.

“If somebody sees this and is able to say, ‘Hey, I’ve never heard of it and I’ve heard of it now,’ and be aware of it, it makes a difference for me,” Kennen told Fox 9.

BLOOD TEST CAN PREDICT IF YOU’LL DIE IN NEXT 10 YEARS, RESEARCHERS CLAIM

Kennen told Fox 9 that while it was clear her body was dealing with a severe infection, it wasn’t until after her relatives had been told to prepare to say goodbye that one of her sons started complaining of a sore throat, which led to a life-saving clue.

All three of her sons tested positive for Group A strep, leading to her diagnosis of Group A strep toxic shock syndrome, according to Fox 9.

Group A strep can cause many infections, including strep throat, but also severe or even deadly illnesses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Patients with Group A strep can go on to develop TSS, which can cause high fever, chills, headache, fatigue, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, decreased liver function, and other serious health issues.

While TSS is typically associated with the use of super-absorbent tampons, it can also be caused by bacteria typically found on skin and can occur in both women and men of all ages. It is often life-threatening and requires medical attention and prompt treatment.

‘Vanderpump Rules’ restaurant responds to accusations of food causing woman to vomit, defecate in dining room

The restaurant at the center of a hit reality TV series is being sued over an alleged case of severe food poisoning — but the eatery is suggesting the accuser is full of crap.

SUR Restaurant and Lounge, which is featured prominently on the Bravo TV series “Vanderpump Rules,” has reportedly been hit with a lawsuit by a diner who claims she became so ill from a meal she ate during an Aug. 2017 visit that she vomited and defecated on herself inside the restaurant.

The restaurant, however, has claimed that no such event occurred on the date mentioned in the lawsuit, according to a statement SUR gave to People.

“If someone had vomited and defecated on the floor, it would have immediately been reported to the health department and would have been on our cameras or others,” co-owner Nathalie Zapata told the outlet, adding that the restaurant’s attorneys have yet to see any of the court documents accompanying the lawsuit, and which were reportedly shared with The Blast.

“Nothing is more important to us than the care and enjoyment of our patrons. We have maintained our ‘A’ rating from the department of health and regular checks from the health department. We have no record of this ever happening from two years ago in 2017,” Zapata added.

In those documents shared with The Blast, the woman claims she visited SUR on Aug. 19, 2017, and ordered a “white fish with orange cream sauce.” Within an hour, she claims, she was unable to keep herself from suddenly vomiting at the table, then falling to the floor where “she continued to vomit and also defecate through her clothing.”

A representative for Lisa Vanderpump, who opened SUR with husband Ken Todd, and appears on the reality series, had not responded to People for further comment. SUR was also not immediately available to confirm if management had been served the lawsuit as of Wednesday.

Rocky ‘Star Wars’ exoplanet with three suns discovered

A distant rocky exoplanet has gone one better than Tatooine, Luke Skywalker’s home planet on “Star Wars,” which is famously depicted as having two suns in its sky.

Scientists from the Harvard Center for Astrophysics used NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Satellite Survey (TESS) telescope to spot planet LTT 1445 A b and its three stars.

“While the planet itself remains in what is probably a stable orbit around its star, that star also orbits, at greater distance, two sibling stars that are locked in close orbit around each other,” explained NASA, in a statement.

SCIENTISTS FIND RARE ‘TATOOINE’ DOUBLE-STAR PLANET

LTT 1445 A b is about 22 light-years from Earth. A light-year measures distance in space and equals 6 trillion miles.

The planet is described as “overheated” by NASA, which notes that LTT 1445 A b is about 1.4 times the size of Earth. LTT 1445 A b’s parent star is LTT 1445 A.

“LTT 1445 A b takes only five days to go once around its star – a ‘year’ on this world,” said NASA. “Its scorchingly close orbit helps explain why its surface basks in temperatures on the order of 320 degrees Fahrenheit (160 Celsius) – comparable to a preheated oven.”

NASA GLIMPSES SURFACE OF DISTANT ROCKY EXOPLANET

This is not the first time that a planet with more than one star has been discovered. NASA notes that our nearest exoplanet neighbor, Proxima b, also has three stars in its sky. Proxima b orbits Proxima Centauri located 4.25 light-years from Earth, which in turn orbits Alpha Centauri A and B.

Ohio man charged with kidnapping after woman escapes from freezer with frostbite, police say

An Ohio man faces kidnapping charges after a woman told police she escaped from a freezer at a Cleveland-area home where she may have been held for days, according to police.

The East Cleveland Police Department said Eric Glaze, 41, was arrested Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder after the victim escaped from the home earlier in the day. Authorities were first alerted to an issue in the area at 10 a.m. after the woman crashed her car in Cleveland, allegedly as she was making her escape.

East Cleveland Police Capt. Scott Gardner told FOX8 the woman identified Glaze as an acquaintance and said she attended a party at the home on Sunday.

“She came over here on her own volition and essentially, she was administered some sort of narcotic, according to her,” he told FOX8. “She’s not exactly certain of the events that happened in-between, but she woke up and she was in a freezer that was running.”

The incident remains under investigation. Glaze is expected to be arraigned Thursday in East Cleveland Municipal Court, Gardner told Cleveland.com.

E-cigarettes damage blood vessels even if devices don’t contain nicotine, study finds

Often touted as a safer alternative to cigarettes, e-cigarettes can have negative effects on a user’s blood vessels, damaging them after just one use, a new study says.

For the study, which was published Tuesday in the medical journal Radiology, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania performed MRI exams on 31 healthy, non-smoking adults before and after they used an e-cigarette that did not contain nicotine.

Participants — between the ages of 18 and 35 — were asked to take 16, 3-second hits from the vaping device.

POSSIBLE VAPING, SEVERE LUNG ILLNESS LINK SPARKS CDC PROBE

“To evaluate vascular reactivity, researchers constricted the vessels of the study participants’ thigh with a cuff and then measured how quickly the blood flowed after its release. Using a multi-parametric MRI procedure, researchers scanned the femoral artery and vein in the leg before and after each vaping episode to see how vascular function changed,” researchers explained in a news release regarding the findings.

The results? Researchers noticed a difference in the femoral artery — which supplies blood to the thigh and leg — after a “single episode of vaping,” according to the news release.

“The endothelium, which lines the inside surface of blood vessels, is essential to proper blood circulation. Once the endothelium is damaged, arteries thicken, and blood flow to the heart and the brain can be cut off, resulting in heart attack or stroke,” the researchers said.

More specifically, researchers, on average, noticed a “34 percent reduction in the femoral artery’s dilation,” as well as “17.5 percent reduction in peak blood flow, a 20 percent reduction in venous oxygen, and 25.8 percent reduction in blood acceleration after the cuff release,” or the speed at which blood returns to normal flow after it’s constricted, they said.

According to the study’s lead author, Alessandra Caporale, the results indicate that there are “significant changes” to the inner lining of blood vessels after vaping.

“E-cigarettes are advertised as not harmful, and many e-cigarette users are convinced that they are just inhaling water vapor,” Caporale said in a statement. “But the solvents, flavorings and additives in the liquid base, after vaporization, expose users to multiple insults to the respiratory tract and blood vessels.”

DOZENS OF MIDWEST TEENS WHO REPORTED VAPING HOSPITALIZED WITH ‘SEVERE LUNG INJURY,’ BREATHING PROBLEMS

And though researchers noted more study is needed to evaluate the long-term health effects of vaping, their findings indicate e-cigarettes are “potentially much more hazardous than previously assumed.”

A specific chemical responsible for the changes was not identified.

The findings were released days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced it is investigating whether a series of lung illnesses reported across multiple states is linked to vaping.

In a statement over the weekend, the federal health agency said it’s “providing consultation” to state health departments in Wisconsin, Illinois, California, Indiana, and Minnesota “about a cluster of pulmonary illnesses linked to e-cigarette product use, or ‘vaping’ primarily among adolescents and young adults.”

Last week, dozens of teens in the Midwest were hospitalized with lung issues that were possibly tied to vaping. Cases were primarily reported in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Patients reported similar symptoms – shortness of breath, chest pain, cough, and vomiting in some cases – and some were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Teens across the states reported using vaping devices for both nicotine and THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that produces the “high” sensation, prior to their hospitalization.

“Clearly if there is an effect after a single use of an e-cigarette, then you can imagine what kind of permanent damage could be caused after vaping regularly over [the] years.”

The negative health effects associated with cigarette and cigar use have long been documented, leading to a decline in both among teens in the U.S. in recent years.

In 2018, for example, the CDC reported roughly 1 in 50 – about 1.8 percent – of middle school students said they smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days, down from 4.3 percent in 2011 and a drastic decrease from 36.4 percent in 1997 when rates “peaked after increasing throughout the first half of the 1990s,” according to the American Lung Association.

But the same is not true for e-cigarette use. In 2018, nearly 1 of every 20 middle school students (4.9 percent) reported using electronic cigarettes in the past 30 days. That’s an increase from less than 1 percent in 2011.

Last year, the surgeon general of the United States, Jerome Adams, declared vaping among American teens an “epidemic.”

SEIZURES AFTER VAPING? FDA INVESTIGATING 127 REPORTS OF THE NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION FOLLOWING E-CIG USE

“This is an unprecedented challenge,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in response at the time.

“I would warn young people to not even get started using e-cigarettes. The common belief is that the nicotine is what is toxic, but we have found that dangers exist, independent of nicotine,”  Felix Wehrli, the Penn study’s principal investigator, said of the findings.

“Clearly if there is an effect after a single use of an e-cigarette, then you can imagine what kind of permanent damage could be caused after vaping regularly over [the] years.”
