Alleged ringleader of Dutch ‘killing machine’ arrested in Dubai, police say

The alleged ringleader of a Dutch crime organization dubbed by prosecutors as an “oiled killing machine,” was arrested in Dubai Monday and flown back to the Netherlands, authorities said Thursday.

Ridouan Taghi, 41, who was one of the Netherland’s most-wanted criminals, had been on the run for years. He now faces trial for allegedly ordering a string of gangland slayings and attempted hits.

Prosecutors accuse Taghi in the murders of five people, including career criminals and a crime blogger.

“For security reasons, he was flown to the Netherlands by chartered plane with a police escort,” prosecutors said in a statement.

The trial of Taghi and his alleged partner, Said Razzouki, already started with neither man there and is set to continue on Feb. 27. Razzouki remains on the run.

The case rose to international prominence earlier this year when the lawyer for a trial witness — an alleged hitman who agreed to testify in exchange for a lighter sentence — was shot dead in Amsterdam.

After nearly a week of speculation, Rep. Jeff Van Drew, D-N.J., announced Thursday during an Oval Office meeting with President Trump that he will be joining the Republican party.

The congressman, one of just a few Democrats who voted against impeaching Trump on Wednesday, explained his reason for the party switch.

“This is just a better fit for me,” he said. “There were other times in my life when I thought about this.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., added, “He’s going from the majority to the minority.  That doesn’t happen.”

Sofia Vergara met with ‘AGT’ execs to fill Gabrielle Union’s seat: report

America’s Got Talent” execs are eyeing Sofia Vergara to possibly replace Gabrielle Union after the former judge’s sudden departure, according to a new report.

The “Modern Family” star, 47, allegedly met with “AGT” bosses on Wednesday for a total of two hours, TMZ reported.

Sources told the outlet that NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy was present for the meeting, in addition to executives from Fremantle, the production company for the show.

SOFIA VERGARA SHARES THROWBACK BIKINI PHOTO FROM THE ’90S

While a top priority for the meeting was to consider Vergara for “AGT,” TMZ sources claimed the network is also contemplating other opportunities for the Colombian-American actress including “dramas and a possible Spanish language project.”

The alleged meeting comes just three weeks after Union, 47, was controversially canned from the show. The actress reportedly left “AGT” along with fellow judge Julianne Hough as a result of a “toxic” workplace culture, Variety first reported. Hough, 31, has since denied the report as the reason for her exit.

Union’s exit snowballed into a social media firestorm, with her famous friends, including Eva Longoria and Ellen Pompeo, rallying behind her.

GABRIELLE UNION SPEAKS OUT AMID CONTROVERSIAL DEPARTURE FROM ‘AMERICA’S GOT TALENT’

Variety’s report alleged that Union was subject to various racial criticisms, including her many hairstyle changes, which were perceived as “too black” for the core demographic of “AGT” — a critique Union reportedly received over half a dozen times.

Union was also reportedly not a fan of a racially insensitive joke made by Jay Leno on set.

During the filming of an interstitial segment, Leno joked about a painting that featured Simon Cowell surrounded by dogs. Leno joked that the dogs looked like something one could find “on the menu at a Korean restaurant” — much to the chagrin of “the very few Asian staffers” on the show. The comment was later edited out of the Aug. 6 episode.

Union allegedly urged producers to report the incident to NBC’s human resources department — to no avail.

On Dec. 4, Union announced on Twitter that she had a “lengthy 5-hour” meeting with AGT higher-ups, which she found “productive.”

Reps for Union and “America’s Got Talent” did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

‘The View’ hosts browbeat Melania and Ivanka over Trump’s John Dingell attack

“The View” co-hosts were indignant over President Trump’s comments about former congressman John Dingell, D-Mich., but also made sure to criticize the president’s family members over their silence on the issue.

“The Be Best, anti-bullying crap — I don’t want to hear any more from anybody,” co-host Meghan McCain said, referring to First Lady Melania Trump’s anti-cyber bullying campaign.

“But I don’t want to hear it from Ivanka, I don’t want to hear it from Melania. Until you get him in line when it comes to disparaging people … when you are disparaging widows and people who have served the country and war heroes who have passed — again, I know something about it — it is, until you get them in line, you are complicit in this as well,” she added.

Co-host Sunny Hostin similarly remarked that she would “love to see some energy from Melania Trump.”

“You’re not gonna,” co-host Joy Behar responded.

The first lady has long come under fire for the apparent hypocrisy of pushing an anti-cyberbullying campaign while her husband attacks people on Twitter. She also received scrutiny for criticizing attacks on her teenage son Barron, but not her husband’s attack on 16-year-old Greta Thunberg.

Trump lodged his attack during a Wednesday rally in Michigan after the House of Representatives voted to impeach him. He took special aim at Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., the former congressman’s wife, after she voted to impeach him.

“Debbie Dingell, that’s a real beauty,” Trump said to a rapt crowd that booed the mention of Dingell’s name. The president said he gave the late Dingell the “A+ treatment” after he died last February and his wife had called him to say “it’s the nicest thing that’s ever happened, thank you so much. John would be so thrilled. He’s looking down.”

HOUSE DEM BLASTS TRUMP AFTER ATTACK ON JOHN DINGELL: ‘HELL WILL BE TOO GOOD FOR HIM’

“I said, ‘That’s OK. Don’t worry about it.’ Maybe he’s looking up. I don’t know,” he quipped to mixed reactions from the audience. “Maybe, but let’s assume he’s looking down.”

More from Media

On Thursday, Rep. Dingell told Fox News’ Sandra Smith that the comment made her “sad.”

“I was already having a hard time with this holiday, and the comment that he made was just — it made me sad,” she said. “But I’m going to keep doing my job and I’m going to work with Republicans and Democrats, as I always do.”

She added that “compromise isn’t a dirty word,” and “we need to listen to each other” and “respect each other.”

“Treat each other with dignity and respect and you can get things done,” she stated.

California girl seen crashing stolen empty plane into building, fence at airport

A small plane can be seen going in a circle before crashing into a fence and building Wednesday at a central California airport as part of a teenager’s alleged joyride.

Around 7:30 a.m., a 17-year-old girl climbed a fence topped with barbed wire at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport and started up the Air 200 propeller-driven aircraft, according to the airport.

“The aircraft then began to move and pivot and crashed into a building and a fence on airport property,” the airport said in a statement. “The aircraft never became airborne, and there was no fire.”

The incident happened in the general aviation area of the airport and did not cause any risk to commercial airlines or passengers, according to officials.

A grainy surveillance video released by airport officials showed the plane moving in a circle before crashing into the fence and then the building.

What a hoot!

One Georgia family got more than they bargained for when they took home a Christmas tree and found a real-life owl hiding in its branches.

Last week, Billy and Katie McBride Newman’s young daughter India started crying when one of their holiday trees ornaments “scared” her, Fox 4 reports.

Coincidentally, the Newnan family’s fir was filled with about a dozen owl ornaments, as Katie is a fan of the bird. Shockingly, however, the woman’s 10-year-old was not spooked by one of the decorations, but instead a real-life owl.

“No joke, we just found a LIVE owl roosting in our Christmas tree. What?!?!?” the mom wrote on Facebook on Dec. 12, sharing an image of the stern-looking bird.

NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS: FAMILY STAGES ‘TOTAL DISASTER’ HOLIDAY PHOTO SHOOTS FOR LAUGHS

That night, the family left their windows and doors open in hopes that the owl would depart on its own – but it stayed.

On Friday, the Newmans contacted the Chattahoochee Nature Center for further instructions, and an employee told them to leave out raw chicken for the bird, worried that it may have gone hungry for too long.

On Saturday, a nature center staffer drove out to their home and safely plucked the owl from the tree.

Identifying the creature as an Eastern screech owl, the employee gave it a medical check and confirmed the bird looked thin, sparking the theory that the owl had hid in the Christmas tree since the Newman’s bought it after Thanksgiving, Billy said. The employee then gave the Newmans instructions for releasing the owl back into the wild themselves.

Katie later shared every update of the so-called “OwlGate” saga on Facebook, as the family carefully transported the owl in a crate and ultimately released it into the wild on Saturday night.

By 9:30 that night, the Christmas owl was gone, per Fox 4.

Chattahoochee Nature Center spokesperson Jon Copsey later praised the Newman family for their thoughtful thinking, explaining that they followed all proper procedures, from trying to help the bird leave on its own to later calling the professionals.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ AJ Bouye fined $10G for skipping mandatory yoga session, calls discipline pointless

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye said Wednesday he was among the players who received excessive fines from former team executive Tom Coughlin.

Bouye told the Florida Times-Union he was fined $10,000 for missing a mandatory yoga session. Other players like Leonard Fournette and Dante Fowler were also fined excessively under the Coughlin regime, an arbitrator ruled after a grievance was filed with the NFL Players’ Association.

“I know what work bests for me as a player, and they didn’t want to hear that,” Bouye told the newspaper. “I remember one time I had an injury, and I got a little work done here, but I wanted to do all my work in my [hometown], and they were kind of getting on me.”

He added: “You never really know what you’re going to get fined for until it happens. You’ve got to find a way to appeal it and hope it won’t happen again. I’m just finding out about who got fined all that money. I hate that it happened. People laugh because it doesn’t happen anywhere else. They just laugh at us when it happens.”

Bouye called Coughlin’s fines pointless and lamented some rookies who may have had their entire game check stripped because of the thousands of dollars they owed the organization.

Fournette and Fowler were among the players who had their money returned to them as part of the winning ruling. Fournette admitted he received a $99,000 fine for sitting on the bench during the final game of the 2018 as an inactive player. Fowler was fined more than $700,000 for missing health checkups at the team facility.

Jacksonville fired Coughlin on Wednesday.

Team owner Shad Khan’s statement thanked Coughlin for his years of service to the organization but also hinted that his spat with the players’ association had something to do with the timing of his termination.

“I determined earlier this fall that making this move at the conclusion of the 2019 season would be in everyone’s best interests but, in recent days, I reconsidered and decided to make this change immediately,” the statement read.

Indiana woman sentenced after killing 3 kids trying to board school bus; mom charged for lunging at her in court

An Indiana woman was sentenced to prison on Wednesday after she killed three siblings who were trying to board a school bus last year — and the kids’ grief-stricken mother lunged at the woman in court.

Alyssa Shepherd, 25, was sentenced to four years in prison, three years of house arrest and three years of probation after she killed the children — Xzavier and Mason Ingle, 6-year-old twin brothers, and Alivia Stahl, their 9-year-old sister — on Oct. 31, 2018.

Alyssa Shepherd, 25, was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday for killing twins Xzavier and Mason Ingle, 6, and their sister, Alivia Stahl, 9, in 2018.

She said in court earlier this year she remembered seeing blinking lights and a large vehicle, but didn’t realize the vehicle was a bus and didn’t see the red stop sign on the side of the bus. Shepherd made the same claims during her arrest. She said she was hysterical and in disbelief afterward, and that she didn’t see the children until they were right in front of her.

Fulton County Prosecutor Michael Marrs said the bus stop had been in place for 50 years and no child had been killed there before. Marrs also mentioned the testimony of the driver behind Shepherd, who said she could tell up ahead there was a school bus with its warning lights on and stop arm extended.

In the Fulton County courtroom Wednesday, Shepherd was sentenced and her driver’s license suspended for 10 years. The children’s’ mother, Brittany Ingle, lunged toward Shepherd during the sentencing and was escorted out in handcuffs then charged with misdemeanor battery.

The victim’s family said they were disappointed in the sentencing, adding that Shepherd should’ve received the maximum sentence, which was 21.5 years in prison. Shepherd, who has two children of her own, apologized in court and said her “heart breaks for the families who feel the loss.”

“If people are going to drive like that, they are going to jail or prison, to some extent, that’s been done in this case,” Marrs said Wednesday, according to WSBT. “But, you know, people need to understand you can’t just drive any way you want. Rhode Island senior housing complex shooting leaves at least 3 injured, reports say

At least three people were injured in a reported shooting Thursday morning at a senior housing complex in Rhode Island, according to officials.

State police told the Providence Journal and WPRI-TV that the incident happened at a housing complex for the elderly in Westerly, a town along the Connecticut state line.

The newspaper said the shooter appears to still be at large and a state police tactical team is responding. It’s not clear the extent of the victims’ injuries.

“It’s a little scary knowing the guy may be running around behind us,” she told the Providence Journal. “I don’t like being this close to something like this. We heard all the schools are in lockdown. It is not my time to die.”
