Police say a man has been killed and his wife critically injured when they were attacked by their pet deer on a rural Australian property.

Police Sergeant Paul Pursell says the 46-year-old man entered the stag’s enclosure on Wednesday morning at Moyhu in Victoria state.

Pursell says the wife also entered the enclosure after hearing a commotion and was also attacked.

Police shot the deer before a paramedic treated the couple.

The husband died at the scene and his wife was flown by helicopter to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne where she condition was described as critical.

Pursell says the stag was a cross between a red deer and an elk.

MOM FLAUNTS BIKINI BODY AFTER 137-POUND WEIGHT LOSS

It all started in 2017 when 290-pound Jeremiah Peterson, 40, took a hiking trip with his wife and 9, 7 and 6-year-old and found himself constantly gasping for air.

“Instead of remembering all the good memories we had made on this trip all I can remember is this one thing that kept playing in my head over and over again,” Peterson wrote on Instagram.

“I found myself running out of breath and having to take breaks way before my [kids].”

Tourist mecca Notre Dame also revered as place of worship

Westlake Legal Group ContentBroker_contentid-6ba9b54773464a90a103244c241e7e1f-1 Tourist mecca Notre Dame also revered as place of worship NICOLE WINFIELD and COLLEEN BARRY fox-news/world/world-regions/united-kingdom fox-news/world/world-regions/europe fox-news/world/religion fox-news/world fnc/world fnc Associated Press article 15c8828e-9781-5efb-88b3-210593f5098b

The soaring beauty of Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral as it echoed with Gregorian chants so moved French poet Paul Claudel on Christmas Day 1886 that the avowed atheist converted to Catholicism on the spot.

“In an instant, my heart was touched and I believed,” Claudel, who remained a committed Catholic until his death nearly seven decades later, wrote of the religious transformation that is commemorated with a plaque on the floor.

While the imposing Gothic cathedral has become a tourist mecca, Notre Dame remains at its heart a place of worship, a powerful expression of religious reverence crafted from stone. A regular evening Mass was in progress when a fire broke near the top of the landmark church, and worshippers were evacuated quickly.

The global reaction to images of flames chewing through the roof, up the spire that pointed to heaven before the blaze brought it down, and threatening the entire cathedral made clear Notre Dame was bigger than any one faith still touched the faithless.

Pope Francis and other religious leaders commented on this quality of transcendent universality while offering prayers and technical expertise to help rebuild.

That a cathedral Francis called the “artistic and spiritual patrimony of humanity” went up in flames during Holy Week, the solemn days before Easter when Christians commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, intensified the sense of loss and devastation.

Some commentators, particularly figures from the religious right, saw the fire-ravaged structure that represented the height of French Catholicism as a metaphor for the demise of the Catholic Church in Europe, where secular trends long ago emptied pews and drained the priesthood of fresh vocations.

But the outpouring of grief and determined vows to bring Notre Dame back to life seemed to signal that for all the talk of a Catholic crisis in Europe, the French, at least, still see in Notre Dame the essence of themselves.

In a condolence note to Paris Archbishop Michel Aupetit, Francis called the church the “architectural gem of a collective memory.” He said he prayed it would retake its place as an emblem of the French nation and its diversity.

Notre Dame draws 13 million people across its portals each year, a significant share of them tourists coming to admire the building’s vaulted ceilings, flying buttresses and stained-glass windows. Many visitors also come to worship.

There are four Masses every day except Sunday, when there are five. The Sunday evening service is usually celebrated by the Paris archbishop and broadcast on Catholic television and Radio Notre Dame, reaching the faithful beyond the stone walls.

“Even though it belongs to the French state, it remains a living creature where they celebrate the liturgy, where they have meetings of faith and where even non-believers enter to have an experience of beauty,” the Vatican’s culture minister, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, said.

But Ravasi also stressed that many of Christianity’s holiest sites are in constant evolution. While Notre Dame “has a secret spiritual dimension” that makes it a place “where even a non-believer senses the transcendent,” the spire that collapsed during the fire only dated from the 1800s, he said.

Representatives of religions outside Catholicism made clear the cathedral burning in the center of Paris carried significance for them, too.

An official of the Russian Orthodox Church quoted by state news agency RIA Novosti called the blaze “a tragedy for the entire Christian world, and for all who appreciate the cultural significance of this temple.”

The church’s secretary for inter-Christian relations, Hieromonk Stefan, also had concern for the safety of Notre Dame’s most precious relic, venerated as the Crown of Thorns worn by Jesus Christ. Stefan called it “a sacred object for all Christians.”

The Church of England’s director of cathedrals and church buildings, Becky Clark, stressed that “no matter the destruction, the spirit of what it means to be a cathedral can and does survive such catastrophes.”

She cited historic precedence in England: The spire of Lincoln Cathedral that collapsed in the 1500s. St. Paul’s Cathedral was destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666. Coventry Cathedral was destroyed by German bombs in 1940.

“All have been rebuilt, sometimes taking on new forms, to stand as reminders of eternity and resurrection which are the foundation of the Christian faith,” she said.

The protesters in Sudan wave national flags, chant “freedom” and bang plastic drums in the sweltering summer heat, while others man makeshift clinics or prepare meals for fellow demonstrators.

For nearly four months, thousands of people protested across Sudan, calling for autocratic president Omar al-Bashir to step down. Their wish came true on April 11, when the military ended his 30-year rule and placed him under house arrest.

But it wasn’t enough for the demonstrators, who fear an army dominated by al-Bashir appointees will cling to power or select one of its own to succeed him. So thousands of people continue to gather at a sit-in outside the military headquarters in Khartoum set up April 6.

“They will make us suffer, so that is why we insist that the sit-in continues,” said Abubakr al-Awad, 23. “They said they want to stay for two years, we will stay three years.”

Demonstrators have called for an “immediate and unconditional” transfer of power to a four-year civilian government, while the military has said its own transitional council will rule for up to two years until elections can be organized.

The Sudanese Professionals Association, which is behind the protests, has urged people to join the sit-in and defend it from any attempts by the military to disperse the demonstrators.

That means spending long days under a relentless sun, with temperatures hovering above 40 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit).

A network of volunteers helps keep the demonstration going, with doctors and nurses staffing clinics set up in the streets surrounding the sit-in.

Al-Awad, a recent medical school graduate, has been volunteering since last week, spending most of his time helping patients from the sit-in. On Tuesday, dozens of protesters suffered from heat exhaustion, and in one clinic a man could be seen receiving an IV drip.

“There is a system in place where those who have, give, and those who don’t have, take,” said al-Awad.

Dafallah Awad, 34, said the country has been ruined by al-Bashir’s government. He has never been able to get a full-time job. “The regime has stolen all our rights,” he said.

A few tents over from the clinic, a group of women prepare lunch for the crowds. The volunteers pool their money to buy supplies to make food on site for anyone who wants it.

“We don’t want people to go back home,” said Razan Hassan al-Tayeb, 29, who was helping prepare a meal of lentils. “People come just as they are and they don’t come with anything, so we are trying to make people not go back home hungry or thirsty or something like that.”

Al Tayeb comes from a five-person household but says even though four of them are working, they can never make ends meet.

“Outside the sit-in, it’s a different place but inside the sit-in, this is the place that we dream of — freedom, where you can speak and have a voice. You can say whatever you want. Whatever you desire to say and reach the people,” she said.

Hannity: Michelle Obama’s divorced dad comment ‘insulting’

Did former first lady Michelle Obama mean to demean divorced fathers?

Obama, in an interview with late-night host Stephen Colbert, compared America to a teenager and life under President Trump to living with a divorced father.

“Sometimes you spend the weekend with a divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick,” Obama told Colbert. “That is what America is going through. We’re kind of living with divorced dad.”

Fox News’ Sean Hannity said Tuesday that Obama’s comments were “demeaning and insulting.”

Hannity was upset with the characterization and discussed it with Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera and Tammy Bruce.

Rivera agreed with Hannity that the comments were “demeaning and insulting” but called the comments a “rare misstep.”

“She’s equating, she’s reduced to us to us sexist stereotype with a bad parent who gives candy and lets the kids watch too much TV because we have a guilty conscience about the breakup of the marriage. I think it’s a rare misstep though Sean, in fairness,” Rivera said.

“No passes here on that,” Hannity said.

Bruce called out Obama for using gender stereotypes and not only insulting to divorced fathers but women as well.

“The problem here is it’s not just insulting to men and for every woman and man out in that audience who didn’t quite know why she was insulting them but it relies also on the other side of the coin which is the gender stereotype of women that all women are supposed to be either great mothers or only women can raise children or only women can be good parents,” Bruce said.

A passenger on board a Houston-bound Lufthansa flight from Germany died Tuesday, according to media reports.

Officials at George Bush Intercontinental Airport received a call around 1:30 p.m. about a death on the airliner during its 11-hour journey, a Houston Airports spokeswoman told KTRK-TV.

The passenger’s name and cause of death were not immediately disclosed. Flight LH440, an Airbus 380-800 aircraft, departed Frankfurt around 10 a.m. and landed in Houston just before 2 p.m., an airline representative told the station.

“As is normal procedure, upon arrival, all passengers must remain onboard while the local authorities and police complete their job. A delay to de-board LH 440 was expected and so therefore the LH 441 (Houston – Frankfurt) departure was pushed back to one hour later,” a statement from North America Lufthansa Group said.

Social media likened McHugh’s quick reflexes to Keanu Reeves’ character Neo from the 1999 film, “The Matrix.” In the movie, Neo dodges a hail of bullets by leaning back, without falling, in a slow-motion sequence.

But McHugh wasn’t rattled by the close call, allowing only two hits over six scoreless innings, striking out five and walking two batters.

Woman ‘infatuated’ with Columbine shooting puts Colorado schools on edge

Colorado schools are on edge Wednesday after a Miami woman “infatuated” with the 1999 Columbine massacre made threats and traveled to Colorado where she bought firearms earlier this week, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

Sol Pais, 18, who has a history of making “concerning” comments, arrived in Colorado from Miami early Monday and bought a pump action shotgun and ammunition, the FBI told reporters Tuesday evening. The FBI’s Miami office had reportedly alerted its Denver counterpart after learning of the potential threat.

Authorities said Pais was last seen in the foothills of Denver and remains at large. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading multiple agencies in a massive manhunt. While no warrant has been issued for her arrest, the FBI said that district attorneys and the U.S. attorney’s office are discussing appropriate charges.

The FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force issued a notice Tuesday describing Pais as “infatuated with (the) Columbine school shooting.” The alert said police who come into contact with her should detain her and evaluate her mental health.

More than 20 schools — including Columbine — were put on lockouts Tuesday, meaning classes were conducted as usual, but entry and exits were heavily restricted for nearly three hours. Officials have not made a decision about whether to keep schools open on Wednesday, the Denver Channel reported.

“We are holding off on that decision and not announcing now because it is changing by the minute,” Stan Hilke of the Department of Public Safety said.

Authorities said Pais hasn’t singled out a particular school but has an “infatuation” with Columbine and the Columbine shooters. The threat comes just days ahead of the massacre’s 20th anniversary.

Timeline of police response to New Zealand mosque attacks

Westlake Legal Group ContentBroker_contentid-425ee674764e491fbe06555cd4c520cf Timeline of police response to New Zealand mosque attacks WELLINGTON, New Zealand fox-news/world/world-regions/pacific fox-news/world fnc/world fnc bf3c99e1-2106-557c-ba67-d7271d214951 Associated Press article

New Zealand police on Wednesday released a detailed timeline of their response to the March 15 shootings that left 50 dead at two Christchurch mosques, confirming they arrested the suspected shooter 18 minutes after receiving the first emergency call.

Commissioner Mike Bush released the following second-by-second timeline, saying the New Zealand public should have as much information as possible about the police response:

___

1:40 p.m. — A manifesto written by the gunman and detailing his plan for the shootings is received at New Zealand’s Parliament.

1:41 p.m. — Only 44 seconds after receiving the email, an official of Parliamentary Services phones the Southern Communications Center to alert police. The call lasts 12 minutes. “We now know that while police was talking to Parliamentary Services, the attack at Al Noor Mosque was already underway, having begun 44 seconds prior to Parliamentary Services calling,” Bush said.

1:43 p.m. — After receiving the first emergency call, police dispatch all available units to Al Noor Mosque.

1:46 p.m. — Officers from the police Armed Offenders Squad arrive near the mosque, leave their vehicles and approach the scene. One stops to assist a critically wounded victim. “At this point the alleged offender is leaving the area and his vehicle is obscured from the view of these AOS members by a bus,” Bush said. “At this time there is no vehicle description, no information an offender has left the mosque or how many shooters there are.”

1:51 p.m. — First responders arrive at the mosque.

1:52 p.m. — The gunman takes six minutes to drive to Linwood Mosque, where seven people are killed.

1:55 p.m. — The gunman leaves Linwood Mosque.

1:56 p.m. — A member of the public flags down a police car to advise shots had been fired in Linwood.

1:57 p.m. — The gunman’s vehicle is seen by police and pursued.

1:59 p.m. — The vehicle is stopped and the suspect arrested.

___

“I reaffirm my previous comments that police staff acted as quickly as humanly possible given the rapidly unfolding nature of the event and the information available to us in that very brief period of time,” Bush said.

He said while an investigation of the police response is continuing, the information released Wednesday was the best police had at present.

A 28-year-old Australian man, Brenton Tarrant, has been charged with 50 counts of murder and 39 counts of attempted murder.

“The investigation team continues to be focused on confirming certain details, particularly timings sourced from a number of electronic systems and devices with differing internal clocks,” Bush said.

He said New Zealand’s terrorist threat level has been reduced from high to medium.
