Acting CBP Commissioner: Some critics either misinformed or lying about agency, actions

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are being wrongfully criticized and attacked by misinformed or intentionally misguided people, according to Mark Morgan, the acting CBP commissioner said.

Law enforcement and the intelligence community are likely successfully tracking potential threats against the agency and its infrastructure, Morgan claimed Monday on “The Ingraham Angle.”

“It’s absolutely dangerous,” he said of some of the opposition to the agency’s mission of border enforcement.

“I have full confidence that the law enforcement mechanisms and intelligence agencies are watching these groups.”

WASHINGTON ICE DETENTION CENTER ATTACKER WILLEM VAN SPRONSEN WROTE ‘I AM ANTIFA’ MANIFESTO BEFORE ASSAULT

“A lone wolf or violent extremist are very hard to prevent,” he said, referring to a 69-year-old Antifa activist shot and killed by Washington state police after attacking an ICE facility in the Evergreen State.

The group Seattle Antifascist Action described assailant Willem Van Spronsen a “good friend and comrade” who “took a stand against the fascist detention center in Tacoma” and “became a martyr who gave his life to the struggle against fascism.”

Van Spronsen was armed with a rifle and incendiary devices when he launched his assault on the Northwest Detention Center around 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the Tacoma Police Department. Employees reported he was throwing ‘incendiary devices’ and setting vehicles on fire and the first officers on the scene said he was wearing a sachet and carrying flares.

In light of van Spronsen’s attack, Morgan slammed some of the rhetoric from agency opponents and critics.

“The rhetoric that’s out there from our own elected leaders — they’re attacking the men and women of ICE, they’re attacking the men and women of CBP,” he said.

“It’s unjust, it’s unfair, it’s misinformed, and outright sometimes, they’re just lying to the American people and it’s undoubtedly fueling this.”

Of the comparison between border detention facilities and World War II-era concentration camps, Morgan said the two are completely different.

“In the concentration camps, the Nazis were killing people. Customs and Border Protection are saving lives,” he said.

Kellyanne Conway says critics employ Hatch Act to ‘silence’ her support for Trump

Counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway responded to critics Monday after formally defying a Hatch Act-related subpoena from the House Oversight Committee.

Her opponents are concerned about her effectiveness at her job and hoped to silence her, Conway said Monday on “Hannity.”

“I’m concerned that there’s such a weaponization and politicization of this thing called the Hatch Act,” she said.

The Hatch Act limits political activity by federal workers. Congress approved the Hatch Act in 1939 to limit partisan activity by federal employees to ensure the government functions fairly and effectively.

The Office of Special Counsel — separate from the office formerly run by Special Counsel Robert Mueller — opened two cases focused on allegations Conway violated the Hatch Act by engaging in “both official and political activity” — during her media appearances and on her Twitter account, @KellyannePolls.

The report stated, “Ms. Conway regularly participated in official media interviews in her capacity as a White House spokesperson to answer reporters’ questions about the Administration. Beginning in February 2019, Ms. Conway, during official media appearances, engaged in a pattern of partisan attacks on several Democratic Party candidates shortly after they announced their candidacy for President,” detailing instances involving Sens. Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren, and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke.

The OSC stated that in one Feb. 19 interview on “Fox & Friends,” Conway “insinuated that Senator Booker was ‘sexist’ and a ‘tinny’ ‘motivational speaker,’” and claimed Warren, D-Mass., was “’lying’” about her ethnicity.

Conway said that no matter how heavy the pressure is on her to keep a low profile, she will continue to publicly support the president’s policies.

“They’re not going to silence me,” she said. “They’re not going to take away my First Amendment rights.”

Conway also “attacked” O’Rourke for not “thinking the women running are good enough to be President.”

Video shows bear charging man who came within feet of cubs in Tennessee

A black bear in Tennessee charged at a man who was seen on video Saturday approaching the animal and her cubs.

The man is seen coming within feet of the bear and her cubs at Cades Cove, a popular tourist spot in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The man was not hurt, according to Paige Marple of Knoxville, who was in the area with her boyfriend and brother when they noticed the bear and her cubs. Marple told Fox News that they stayed in their truck and watched from a distance as the man approached the bear.

She recorded the risky encounter.

TENNESSEE POLICE WARN NOT TO FLUSH DRUGS DOWN TOILET FOR FEAR OF CREATING ‘METH-GATORS’

Marple called what she had witnessed “intense,” calling it unbelievable that the man had gotten away unscathed.

“I don’t know how he’s still alive, honestly,” Marple wrote on her Facebook page on Saturday, adding that in Cades Cove “there are signs everywhere stating to stay 50 yards away from the animals.”

“This man did not listen and could have died because of it,” she wrote.

In the video, the bear appeared to charge before backing off to follow her cubs.

Marple told Fox News, “I was confused at first, as I couldn’t understand what enticed this man to even consider going towards the bear and her cubs.”

She said fear set in shortly thereafter.

“You can hear myself, my brother and my boyfriend all gasp, as we thought it was going to get bad,” Marple said. “Shock and relief was followed by a feeling of anger because the man did something that could have very well ended bad for himself and the family of bears.”

Dana Soehn, a park spokesperson, told Fox News that visitors need to be aware that bears are wild animals, and can be dangerous or unpredictable, adding that it is illegal to come within 50 yards of them in the park.

Violations can result in fines and arrest, Soehn said.

In a statement sent to Fox News Soehn wrote, “To help us best protect bears in the park, it is critical that people act responsibly during their visit.”

Soehn added that bears should never be fed or approached.

“We work hard to keep bears wild in a space shared with 11.4 million people,” the statement said. “We need each visitor to do their part by always staying at least 50 yards back from bears and properly disposing of food waste – for their safety and that of the bears.”

Soehn said mother bears are extremely protective of their cubs and will aggressively defend them from harm.

Extra protection sought for certain lawmakers after Trump’s comments about ‘squad’

EXCLUSIVE – House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson, D-Miss., was seeking extra protection for members of Congress on Monday after President Trump’s tweets and remarks about the progressive “squad.”

Trump’s remarks apparently were directed at four congresswomen: Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All are American citizens and three of the four were born in the U.S.

Far from backing down, Trump on Monday dug in on comments he had initially made a day earlier on Twitter that if lawmakers “hate our country,” they can go back to their “broken and crime-infested” countries.

“If you’re not happy in the U.S., if you’re complaining all the time, you can leave, you can leave right now,” he said.

In the letter for House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving and Senate Sergeant at Arms Michael Stenger, Thompson argued that the Capitol Police Board should meet to “analyze the current threat environment and set thresholds for enhanced safety of Members.”

Thompson asked for a meeting within 48 hours and a classified readout of the meeting.

The letter was addressed to Stenger because he has headed the Capitol Police Board this year.

Thompson said security officials should set “thresholds for enhanced security for certain targeted Members, and evaluate threat streams with law enforcement partners in Member districts. Being proactive in this instance is vital to the safety of not only these targeted Members, but all Members of Congress.”

Fox News has been told that despite Thompson’s pleas, other lawmakers have faced more serious threats than members of the squad ahead of Trump’s tweets.

Republican strategist Karl Rove ripped Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke‘s for his position on reparations and his revelation that he and his wife are descended from slave owners.

“I think it trivializes the issue. I mean … you feel only urgent about this because in the 1850s, 160 years ago, his forbears had two slaves. You know, you either feel that we ought to make reparations … for slavery because … you feel it’s necessary and a moral obligation, or not,” Rove said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Monday.

O’Rourke revealed on Twitter on Sunday that he and his wife, Amy, are both descended from slave owners.

The Democratic presidential hopeful also posted an article on Medium where he promised to continue to support reparations, “beginning with an important national conversation on slavery and racial injustice.”

Rove said: “There are just so many ways that this issue will simply cause greater racial division in this country and divide us more deeply. And I don’t think … Robert Francis O’Rourke’s approach to this helps at all.”

Billionaire Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel says there is one Democratic presidential candidate who makes him most concerned ahead of the 2020 elections.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is the only Democratic candidate campaigning on the economy, while others are mired in discussions about identity politics, Thiel said Monday on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“I’m most scared by Elizabeth Warren,” he said.

“I think she’s the one who’s actually talking about the economy, which is the only thing that I think matters by far the most.”

Thiel, who addressed the 2016 Republican National Convention as its first openly gay speaker, also said he found the other nearly two dozen Democratic primary contenders uninspiring.

PETER THIEL SAYS FBI, CIA SHOULD INVESTIGATE IF CHINESE INTELLIGENCE INFILTRATED GOOGLE: REPORT

“I think almost all the others are equally unimpressive in the sense that it’s all identity politics of one flavor or another,” he said.

“I wouldn’t want to rank how unimpressive they are, since that would be forcing me to rank the different identities and which one’s more privileged and more special, and that would be a dangerous thing to get into.”

Earlier in the interview, Thiel discussed how he called Sunday for the FBI and CIA to investigate whether Chinese intelligence had infiltrated Google.

Thiel made the comments during a speech at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington. He said the FBI and CIA needed to ask Google three questions to determine if the tech giant had been compromised by Chinese intelligence.

Speaking to Carlson, Thiel said artificial intelligence is something, “people talk about nonstop in Silicon Valley.”

“But they almost never talk about its dual use,” he said.

“If it’s real, if this is a real thing, it obviously can also be used by the military, it’ll be weaponized in all sorts of ways, and it’s an important national security question as to who has it.

Curtis, 42, also reportedly shared several photos on her Instagram Story of the pair getting ready for a night out, according to People magazine.

The DIY and HGTV star’s new romance comes after a years-long custody battle with her ex-boyfriend, Shane Maguire over the former couple’s 3-year-old son, Harper.

In October, Curtis — who is also mom to son Ethan from a previous relationship — and Maguire reached a settlement, agreeing they will share joint physical and legal custody.

Police suspect man killed New York girl he met on Instagram and shared photos of her body online

A man, 21, found seriously injured near the body of a 17-year-old girl is suspected of killing the teen and posting photos of her body on Instagram, where they’d first met digitally, police said Monday.

Investigators found the girl’s body Sunday outside a vehicle in Utica, along with the man; he was hospitalized but is expected to survive, police said.

The teen was identified as Bianca Devins, Utica Police Sgt. Michael Curley said. He identified Brandon Clark, 21, as the injured man and suspect in the slaying.

Clark was not immediately charged, and could not speak with officers while he was sedated in the hospital, reports said.

The girl’s family said in a statement to Fox News: “Bianca, age 17, was a talented artist, a loving sister, daughter, and cousin, and a wonderful young girl, taken from us all too soon. She is now looking down on us, as she joins her cat, Belle, in heaven.”

Police are investigating the case as a murder and attempted suicide, Lt. Bryan Coromato said, according to WNBC.

Utica Police said in a statement to Fox News: “With respect to their relationship, it was learned that the two had met on the social media platform Instagram approximately two months ago. They utilized this as a means of communication primarily, and their relationship progressed into a personally intimate one. They had spent time together, and were acquainted with each other’s families.”

Investigators believe the man posted pictures of the girl’s corpse on Instagram, where at least one was widely circulated, Coromato said.

Devins’ death sparked a wave of attention and disgust online over the pictures. Some Internet users urged others to stop circulating the images.

“Our thoughts go out to those affected by this tragic event. We are taking every measure to remove this content from our platforms,” Instagram spokeswoman Stephanie Otway told Fox News via email.

Instagram blocked the hashtag #yesjuliet for attempting to spread the image of the girl’s corpse.

Clark’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram were removed Monday, and Otway told Fox News that Instagram was in contact with law enforcement.

Democrats‘ so-called progressive “squad” continues to critique America, which has rightfully led to friction with President Trump, according to 2020 campaign senior adviser Lara Trump.

Some of the policies advocated by the group — including calls to change border policies and abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — are counterintuitive to what a representative of the American people should support, Trump claimed Monday on “The Story.”

“It’s very frustrating to see people who are supposed to represent our country, these congresswomen, dump on our country every single day — call for the abolishment of ice, call for open borders, go against everything that he’s doing,” she said.

“At a certain point, we’re all frustrated as Americans.

“We need to step back for a second and remember Donald Trump is a man who gave up his entire life because he loves this country so much and he wanted to fix it.”

Lara Trump also questioned the intentions of Reps. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

“Why are you representing people of this country if you dislike it so much?” she asked.

“His frustration is clear here,” she added of her father-in-law, the president.

STIREWALT: TRUMP’S OMAR, AOC COMMENTS LEADING PELOSI TO TRY TO ‘TRAP REPUBLICANS’

Members of the “squad” have feuded bitterly with top House Democrats in recent days, leading some observers to allege that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s attacks on the freshmen progressives have emboldened Trump.

But, leading up to Monday evening’s news conference, the weight of the party establishment was firmly behind the four members of Congress — united, with all hands on deck, in attacking Trump’s comments. Pelosi announced Monday the House would take up a resolution to condemn the president’s “xenophobic tweets.”

Just minutes before the representatives were set to take the stage, Trump invoked Omar’s infamous casual reference to the 9/11 terrorist attacks as an instance in which “some people did something” — and renewed his calls for anti-American individuals to leave the country.

“We will never be a Socialist or Communist Country,” Trump wrote. “If you are NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE!”

Geraldo Rivera on Trump’s tweets: ‘I just hope it isn’t a glimpse at his soul’

Fox News correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera criticized President Trump Monday for his controversial tweets this Sunday saying he was “saddened” by the remarks and wished he would apologize.

“I was really saddened by what he said invoking the language of racism and xenophobia in describing these four women I thought it was very unnecessary,” Rivera said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”

“The Democrats were doing a great job in destroying themselves and being divided and he united them gratuitously, I don’t know why he did it. I don’t know what he was thinking, it is unfortunate.”

Monday, Trump doubled down on his explosive tweets this weekend for progressive congresswomen to “go back” to where they came from and “come back and show us how it’s done,” rather than criticize the Trump administration. He also demanded they “apologize” for what he called their anti-American “hate.”

AOC ‘SQUAD’ REFERS TO TRUMP AS ‘OCCUPANT’ OF WHITE HOUSE, CONDEMNS ‘RACIST’ REMARKS, AS TRUMP FIRES BACK

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., held a press conference Monday blasting the president for his comments and calling for his impeachment.

Rivera lamented how the president’s comments can justify criticism levied against him.

“You know when I defend him I do so against all these gratuitous attacks in the media. He has the worst press of any president in modern history and yet he does things like this that leaves himself open to the criticism that he is exactly what the people who hate him say he is and I feel it’s very unfortunate,” Rivera said.

Rivera, who appeared emotional and said he considered the president a friend, said he hopes the president actually doesn’t believe his own comments.

“I just hope it isn’t a glimpse at his soul. I just hope that he doesn’t really believe that every person of color comes from someplace else,” Rivera said.

As for the congresswomen, Trump directed his comments toward, and whether or not their past controversial comments justify the president’s criticism, Rivera argued they had a different standard than the president.

“They are radicals. They have a different role than the president of the United States. The leader of the free world…. he’s the person that activates the slogan of the United States of America. He’s the glue. He can’t be the divider,” Geraldo said.
