Little Mix star Jesy Nelson recalls suicide attempt: ‘I couldn’t tolerate the pain any more’

Little Mix star Jesy Nelson says she tried to kill herself after she was subjected to relentless trolling on Twitter about her appearance.

She took an overdose of pills and went to bed — but was saved because her then-boyfriend found her and called an ambulance.

Jesy, 28, speaking for the first time about her suicide attempt, said: “I just remember thinking, ‘I just need this to go away, I’m going to end this.’

A source close to the star said: “She confessed to him what she had done. An ambulance came to the house and was able to sort her out.

“They were able to get there in time and save her life. Jesy told her close family members, one member of her management team and her bandmates, who were devastated.”

Jesy has spoken out about her November 2013 suicide attempt for the first time to help raise awareness of the effect trolling can have on young people.

Jesy, recalling her ordeal in BBC1 documentary “Odd One Out,” said: “I just remember thinking this is never going to go.

“I’m going to constantly wake up and feel sad for the rest of my life. So what is the point in being here? I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain anymore.”

Jesy, who is now dating Love Island star Chris Hughes, has turned her life around and permanently quit Twitter, deleting the app from her phone.

“It’s a big decision to open up about something so personal but she’s determined to help others.”

Jesy had been subjected to horrific online bullying since finding fame as an “X Factor” winner in 2011. She had been put together with Perrie EdwardsJade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock to form Little Mix.

She told how all four members were forced to sign up to social media in the wake of their win. Jesy said: “We were all told we had to have social media and it completely changed my life.

“The whole world had an opinion on me and they weren’t good ones.

“From the minute those comments started, it became one of the worst times of my life.

“I wasn’t known as one of the singers from Little Mix. I was always known as the fat, ugly one. It literally consumed every part of me.” In the documentary, which screens on Thursday night, she reveals the sort of abuse she suffered.

The cruel comments included: “Fat singing whale,” “The fat one is repulsive,” “Kill your f—ing self,” “Go chop your f—ing head off,” “Jesy’s face is deformed,” “That one from Little Mix looks like Miss Piggy from the Muppets.”

Jesy said she did not have body confidence issues before joining social media.

She added: “As a kid I was very very confident. I never had any issues with the way I looked, my weight — until everything changed. Being in Little Mix is just the best thing that’s ever, ever happened to me. But I hit such a low point in my life that I stopped turning up for work.

New England Patriots’ Tom Brady racks up another first to kick off 20th season

Tom Brady has been playing at a high level for so long that generations of opponents have been bested by the future Hall of Famer.

The 42-year-old quarterback, who’s playing in his 20th NFL season with the New England Patriots, experienced yet another career first during Sunday night’s season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers when he peered over his offensive line and saw he was about to go against the son of an opponent Brady had faced during his rookie year.

TOM BRADY WILLING TO HAVE ANTONIO BROWN MOVE IN WITH HIM WHILE HE GETS SETTLED WITH NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

The six-time Super Bowl champion had Devin Bush Jr. staring back at him at the line of scrimmage, giving Brady déjà vu from 2001, when he dealt with Cleveland Browns safety Devin Bush Sr., according to ESPN.

“It really hits you when you think about both of us living our dream of playing in the NFL, and to be playing against the same opponent, how many times does that happen?” Bush Sr. told ESPN.

But like father, like son: Brady got the best of Bush Sr. in 2001 and Bush Jr. in 2019. The Patriots defeated the Browns, 27-16, in 2001 en route to Brady’s first Super Bowl title. On Sunday, Brady led the Patriots to a blowout win, 33-3, on the night New England celebrated its sixth championship.

Dan Bongino, Rahm Emanuel agree: 2020 Dems making big mistake going into general election

Fox News contributor Dan Bongino expressed agreement Monday on “Fox & Friends” with former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who warned 2020 Democratic presidential candidates against going too far left on health care and immigration.

Speaking on ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday, the former Obama White House chief of staff said that it’s “reckless” to support “Medicare-for-all” and also support giving health care to migrants who cross the border.

“We’ve taken a position so far, the candidates have … few have not, about basically ‘Medicare-for-all,’ which is we’re gonna eliminate 150 million people’s health care and we’re gonna provide health care for people that [have] just come over the border,” said Emanuel.

“That is an untenable position for the general election. … This is reckless. You don’t have to take the position to win the primary and you’re basically, literally hindering yourself for the general election.”

Bongino joked that he has almost never agreed with Emanuel, but the Democrats’ argument on health care goes against basic economics.

“The very bedrock of economics is the allocation of scarce resources. A doctor’s time and hospital beds are scarce resources. You can either price them or you can ration them,” he said.

Bongino said government-run health care can only lead to “rationing,” similar to other single-payer health care systems like the United Kingdom, and Americans will reject it.

“If you instill a rationing system, Rahm Emanuel is right, it will be economic and political suicide for the Democratic Party.”

Swedish scientist floats eating human flesh as solution to global climate change: reports

A Swedish scientist speaking at Stockholm summit last week offered an unusual possible tactic in combating global climate change: eating human flesh.

Stockholm School of Economics professor and researcher Magnus Soderlund reportedly said he believes eating human meat, derived from dead bodies, might be able to help save the human race if only a world society were to “awaken the idea.”

Soderlund’s argument for human cannibalism was front and center during a panel talk called “Can you Imagine Eating Human Flesh?” at the Gastro Summit, reports The Epoch Times. “Conservative” taboos against cannibalism, he said, can change over time if peoples simply tried eating human flesh.

Some of the talking points at the seminar included whether humans were too selfish to “live sustainably” and if cannibalism is the solution to food sustainability in the future.

MISTRIAL DECLARED IN CASE OF INDIANA MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING EX-GIRLFRIEND, EATING HER BODY PARTS

When asked during an interview after his talk if he personally would try human flesh, Soderlund said he was open to the idea.

“I feel somewhat hesitant but to not appear overly conservative…I’d have to say….I’d be open to at least tasting it,” he told Sweden’s TV4.

He suggested more plausible options such as eating pets and insects.

Before human meat becomes the next cuisine trend, however, history shows there are potential health risks to cannibalism.

A tribe in Papua New Guinea practiced eating their dead as an alternative to allowing them to be consumed by worms, according to the Standard. The cultural practice led to an epidemic of a disease called Kuru, also known as laughing death.

According to the US National Library of Medicine, the disease is caused by an infectious protein found in contaminated human brain tissue. The practice of cannibalism among the people of New Guinea came to an end in 1960.

Jason Chaffetz: For better results on public policy, reward solutions, not anger

“It pains me to say this,” CNN’s Fareed Zakaria told his Sunday audience regarding President Trump’s immigration policies, “but he is right, that the United States faces a crisis with its asylum system.”

The startling admission from one of the left’s more reliable media allies was followed by a detailed explanation of the data and the history backing the conclusion. America’s asylum process truly is broken – and many suffer as a result.

Given the factual and public support for solving this problem, one might think a bipartisan solution would be easy to reach. It hasn’t been.

NEWT GINGRICH: IF DEMS KEEP DOING THESE 5 THINGS, TRUMP WILL HAVE A LANDSLIDE VICTORY IN 2020

Instead, immigration and border security have become key in the Democratic play to stoke anger. Given the strength of the Trump economy, they’ve had to throw out the inequality card and play the race card to stir up dissent.

Unfortunately, too many Americans have unwittingly played into their hands.

More from Opinion

When we stop rewarding candidates who solve problems and instead favor causes and candidates who exacerbate them, we eliminate the incentives for good public policy. High levels of anger and frustration correlate with high levels of donations to campaigns and politically-oriented nonprofit groups.

In the wake of the 2016 Trump election, nonprofits referred to the “Trump bump” to describe the massive increase in donations driven by anger on the left.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) reported receiving $7 million from 120 donors in the five days following Trump’s victory. By contrast, the New York Times reported, the five days following President Obama’s reelection brought in just $28,000 from 354 donors to the ACLU.

Lawmaking in general has become a forgotten responsibility as Pelosi looks to convert every legislative shield into a political sword.

In public policy, we get more of what we reward and less of what we penalize. Trump’s understanding of this principal is key to our economic success. His economy rewards the hard working, the law-biding, and the risk takers, spurring strong growth and low unemployment.

Unfortunately, when we reward angry politicians by opening our checkbooks to them, politicians learn to keep us angry.

The good news in all of this is that voters have the power to change this dynamic. We get to decide which candidates and organizations garner our votes, our time, and our dollars. Instead of rewarding obstruction, we can choose to reward problem solving.

Since taking control of the House of Representatives in January, Democrats have shown little appetite for solutions to our most pressing problems. As I outline in my new book, “Power Grab,” solving real problems such as the border crisis is now considered bad strategy. Instead, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s anemic legislative efforts have been message bills with no bipartisan appeal.

Pelosi’s top bill in the 116th Congress did not address any of the issues voters list as their top 18, according to surveys conducted by the Pew Research Center.

Instead, the problem Pelosi prioritized was grabbing power. She introduced legislation to federalize local elections, ensuring policies that provide electoral advantages to Democrats would be forced into every precinct in America. To Pelosi, that problem was more important than border security, health care, the broken FBI, or the economy.

Lawmaking in general has become a forgotten responsibility as Pelosi looks to convert every legislative shield into a political sword. Who can forget the eight committees investigating unsupported allegations against Trump?

Instead of rewarding this recalcitrance, voters can stand up for problem solvers in Congress, in the executive branch, and among our politically active nonprofits. Zakaria should be commended for acknowledging a very real problem and Trump’s efforts to solve it.

Anyone can visit congress.gov and enter search terms to find legislative proposals that address serious problems. Many of those proposals never see the light of day. In fact, I began introducing legislation to address asylum reform back in 2014 that would have prevented many of the problems we face today. But that legislation never made it past the committee vote.

If we want problem solvers, we must reward them. We can fund their campaigns, promote their bills, work to forward good solutions, and vote for candidates who demonstrate an ability to focus on problem solving.

Only when we reject the politics of anger, obstruction, and division will we begin to find the bipartisan solutions that can improve our lives and our politics.

Tom Brady is not just quarterbacking the New England Patriots, he’s also driving the Super Bowl champions’ welcome wagon.

Brady has a new teammate he had to get acclimated to the offense and the vaunted “Patriots’ way,” and it looks like he’s more than willing to help out Antonio Brown as the mercurial wide receiver gets settled.

ANTONIO BROWN USED SOCIAL MEDIA CONSULTANTS TO ACCELERATE RELEASE FROM RAIDERS, REPORT SAYS

Prior to the Patriots’ first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers, NBC commentator Al Michaels revealed that Brady was willing to go the extra mile, and then some, to make Brown feel at home with his third team in about six months.

Michaels said: “[Patriots owner Robert Kraft] also told me when he broke the news to Tom Brady yesterday, Brady initially said ‘I’m 100 percent in.’ Two minutes later, Tom came back and said to Kraft ‘I’m 1,000 percent in.’ Then he came back two minutes later and said ‘I’m a million percent in.’

ANTONIO BROWN SIGNS WITH NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS HOURS AFTER RAIDERS CUT HIM

“And finally, I just talked to Drew Rosenhaus who made the deal, who’s Brown’s agent, and Drew said Brady told Brown come move in with me until you get settled in New England.”

The Patriots signed Brown on Saturday hours after the Oakland Raiders released him.

Brown’s offseason has been tumultuous to say the least. He was at odds with Raiders general manager Mike Mayock all offseason between suffering a foot injury from a cryotherapy mishap and trying to find a new helmet.

ANTONIO BROWN RELEASED BY OAKLAND RAIDERS AFTER FRACTURED OFF-SEASON, REPORTED FEUD WITH GM OVER FINES, MONEY

The weekend appeared to be the final straw for the Raiders.

After word got out about Brown’s argument with Mayock at Raiders practice, Brown apologized to his teammates Friday and appeared that he was ready to go for the team’s first game Monday night.

Brown later received word he was going to be fined for conduct detrimental to the team, which cost him about $30 million in guaranteed money. Friday night, Brown released a video of a phone call between him and coach Jon Gruden.

By Saturday morning, Brown was demanding to be released in an Instagram post.

Brown got his wish and was later signed by the Patriots.

Hurricane Dorian death toll at 44, but officials, residents know it will rise dramatically

The grim toll of Hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas reached 44 on Sunday, according to the Caribbean nation’s government, which expects the number of dead to rise.

Minister of Health Duane Sands told the Miami Herald the official death toll represents confirmed deaths and is tabulated as the bodies arrive at the morgue. The majority of the deaths reportedly came in the Abaco Islands. In the other hard-hit area, Grand Bahama, officials attribute eight deaths to Hurricane Dorian.

Residents say the official death toll is substantially lower than the reality.

Fox News arrived in Grand Bahama early Saturday morning and learned of at least 18 deaths in the eastern part of the island. In one small settlement known as High Rock, residents say 17 are dead.

DORIAN TOPPLES CRANE IN CANADA, CAUSES BLACKOUTS AS STORM ROLLS NORTH

With tears welling in his eyes and his voice cracking, Cecil Willard Kemp listed every name.

“Seventeen persons out of my town are dead,” Kemp said. “That’s unprecedented.”

Kemp, a local pastor, told Fox News the youngest was a five-year-old boy named Maury.

In Nassau, evacuees are being flown into a private airport and tended to in large white tents. Inside there is food and water. Volunteers are helping to process those coming in and either place them in a shelter or transport them to family nearby.

Near one tent, there is a sign identifying it as a family waiting area.

Atish Kemp was looking for her family and criticizing the Bahamian government for what she considers an inadequate response and an egregious lack of transparency.

Kemp, who is not related to Cecil Kemp, accused the Bahamian government of not telling the truth about the death toll and said dead bodies, still lying in the hot sun, could threaten the health of Bahamians.

“Who’s going to be responsible for the lost souls?” she asked. “Who is going to explain to us why we have no plan before [Dorian made landfall], and why we still don’t have any plans?”

WEATHER AGENCY BACKS TRUMP, SAYS DORIAN COULD’VE HIT ALABAMA

Atish Kemp told Fox News dozens of her relatives are unaccounted for.

She believes many, including a niece who was in Freeport, Grand Bahama, could be among the dead.

Kemp says her niece “went to have a baby” the Saturday before the hurricane came and she hasn’t heard from her since.

Officials with the Bahamian government have repeatedly denied allegations of a cover-up and pushed back on what they call “rumors on the Internet,” related to both the death toll and allegations of rejected humanitarian aid.

On Sunday, the minister of health said the death toll is not the government’s priority.

“The priority,” Duane Sands said, “is to find those people for their loved ones who are missing them […] to put food in people’s bellies, water in their throat.”

The prime minister’s office did not respond to Fox News’ request for an on-camera interview with either the prime minister or Sands.

In his “Confessions,” Saint Augustine admitted he had prayed, “Lord, make me chaste, but not yet.” Sen. Elizabeth Warren would understand.

She wants to be the Democrats’ 2020 nominee, but doesn’t necessarily want to be the front-runner, at least not yet. She’d rather watch Joe Biden have the honor — and the target on his back.

Biden will once again be the piñata at Thursday’s debate because the best way for any of his nine rivals to gain ground is to beat up on him, as Sen. Kamala Harris proved in the first debate.

But Warren is the one to watch this time. Most national polls have her second, with two recent ones showing her trailing the former vice president by just four points.

She is drawing by far the largest crowds and is focused, energized and organized. Biden, on the other hand, had a terrible week, with a growing realization in the party that his flubs and memory lapses are not passing problems.
