Donna Brazile to Joaquin Castro and Trump: ‘Stop it,’ volume must be lowered on both sides

Fox News contributor Donna Brazile called for the “volume” to be lowered on both sides of the political aisle, responding to Rep. Joaquin Castro’s decision to tweet out the names of Trump donors in the San Antonio area.

“That’s why I said a long time ago to the president of the United States, stop it. I tell it to members of Congress, stop it. We’re going at each other, we’re not talking to each other. We’re accusing each other of things that we’re not and we’re not lowering the volume, we’re not changing the tone. … It is happening on both sides … and I dislike it,” said the former interim DNC chairwoman on “America’s Newsroom.”

The tweet, which Castro has defended and refused calls to delete, prompted a Twitter response late Wednesday from President Trump after visiting survivors of Saturday’s mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso.

“I don’t know who Joaquin Castro is other than the lesser brother of a failed presidential candidate (1%) who makes a fool of himself every time he opens his mouth. Joaquin is not the man that his brother is, but his brother, according to most, is not much. Keep fighting Joaquin!” Trump wrote.

Castro, D-Texas, argued the names of the donors are publicly available and claimed he does not want the people to be harassed or for their businesses to be boycotted.

JOAQUIN CASTRO FACING BACKLASH FROM ALL SIDES FOR POSTING TRUMP DONOR INFORMATION

“Unless you support the white nationalism and the racism that Donald Trump is paying for and fueling, then I hope you, as a person of good conscience, will think twice about contributing to his campaign,” said Castro in an interview on MSNBC, where he was pressed by host Willie Geist about the likelihood that people will be harassed.

“I don’t want anyone on the left or the right to be a target of any crazy person or any person that means them harm at all,” he responded, claiming the names were already circulating before his account posted them.

Responding to comments from presidential candidates Beto O’Rourke and Joe Biden, Brazile said if the rhetoric does not change, lawmakers cannot find “common ground.”

“The president this week called for healing. Yesterday was not a day of healing,” she said, adding the country cannot heal if we are still “fighting” each other.

She said she believed Biden, in a speech in Iowa Wednesday, made the case that “words matter,” calling on Trump to change his tone.

2019 Atlantic hurricane season now favors ‘above-normal’ activity, with 10-17 named storms, NOAA says

After a timid start to the Atlantic hurricane season, forecasters are advising that conditions have changed to allow for “above-normal” activity as the peak months of the season have arrived.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in its mid-season outlook that an El Nino weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean has ended, leading to neutral conditions that are more favorable for tropical activity.

“El Nino typically suppresses Atlantic hurricane activity but now that it’s gone, we could see a busier season ahead,” said Gerry Bell, lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. “This evolution, combined with the more conducive conditions associated with the ongoing high-activity era for Atlantic hurricanes that began in 1995, increases the likelihood of above-normal activity this year.”

HERE ARE THE DEADLIEST AND COSTLIEST HURRICANES TO HIT THE US MAINLAND

NOAA forecasters are now calling for 10-17 named storms with winds of 39 mph or higher, of which five to nine could strengthen into hurricanes. Of those storms, there will be two to four major hurricanes, which are classified as Category 3, 4, and 5 with winds of 111 mph or higher.

The updated 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season outlook. (NOAA)

Forecasters this year have also increased the likelihood of an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season to 45 percent, up from a 30 percent chance from the pre-season outlook issued in May. The likelihood of near-normal activity is now at 35 percent and the chance of below-normal activity has dropped to 20 percent for this year’s hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.

An average hurricane season produces 12 named storms, of which six become hurricanes, including three major hurricanes, according to NOAA. The peak months of the hurricane season, August through October, are now underway.

Forecasters also stressed the NOAA outlook is for overall seasonal activity and not a landfall forecast. Landfalls are largely determined by short-term weather patterns, which are only predictable within about a week of a storm potentially reaching a coastline, according to the NOAA.

Those living in impact zones along the coast and inland are warned to be prepared for whatever may come this hurricane season.

“Today’s updated outlook is a reminder to be prepared,” Acting FEMA administrator Pete Gaynor said in a statement. “We urge everyone to learn more about hurricane hazards and prepare now, ahead of time, so that if state and local authorities announce evacuations in advance of a storm, you and your family will have planned where to go and what to do to stay safe.”

HOW HURRICANE NAMES ARE ‘RETIRED’ FROM USE FOR FUTURE STORMS

So far, two named storms have formed this year.

Nick Kyrgios blows up at umpire for failing to immediately meet towel request

Nick Kyrgios was riding a wave of momentum heading into the Rogers Cup in Canada after having just won the Citi Open in Washington over the weekend.

Any momentum Kyrgios may have had going into the Rogers Cup was stopped in its tracks Wednesday after the Australian tennis star melted down over a towel.

FLASHBACK: NICK KYRGIOS RAGES AT UMPIRE, ACCUSES OFFICIAL OF ‘RIGGING’ MATCH

Kyrgios received a code violation during his loss to Kyle Edmund for cursing at the umpire when he realized a request he made prior to the start of the match went unfulfilled.

According to Reuters, Kyrgios asked the umpire if he could have a white towel instead of the towel that features the tournament’s logo on it. The 24-year-old was five games into the match when he realized that he did not get the towel he had asked for.

“You’re telling me that you can’t radio in just for one white towel?” Kyrgios asked after the umpire told him he wasn’t allowed to leave the chair.

Kyrgios was then handed a white towel, but it didn’t help cool him off.

Edmund won the match 6-3, 6-4.

Kyrgios is infamous for his on-court tirades.

In June, he accused an umpire at Queen’s Club in London of “rigging” his match. In May, he threw a water bottle and a chair during the Italian Open.

He was also given multiple code violations for obscenities and racket-smashing during the 2014 U.S. Open. He’s received multiple fines at Wimbledon and the Australian Open for cursing.

He also received an eight-week ban for allegedly not giving his best effort during a 2016 match at the Shanghai Masters. He has been on the receiving end of harsh criticism from tennis great John McEnroe, who said in 2016 he should retire.

Fox News contributor and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Alveda King pushed back against those who are labeling President Trump as a racist and a white supremacist, arguing there is a danger in misusing the terms.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” Thursday, King responded to many of the 2020 Democratic candidates who have been quick to call the president a “racist” and accuse him of inciting violence with his rhetoric.

“President Trump is not a racist,” King said. “I’ve had the experience of going head to head with genuine racists.”

TRUMP TRASHES BETO O’ROURKE, TELLS HIM TO ‘BE QUIET’ AHEAD OF EL PASO VISIT

King said she would like to challenge the president’s accusers on whether they have “ever met a real racist.”

“President Trump has said ‘we all bleed the same,’ he’s very clear on that and he has done so much for all Americans including African-Americans,” she explained.

Many 2020 Democratic candidates have upped their rhetoric on the president following the horrific mass shootings that took 31 lives this past weekend.

In an interview with MSNBC, Beto O’Rourke called Trump a white supremacist on Wednesday as both men were in El Paso to honor the victims and visit those injured in the attack.

After noting he had previously called Trump a racist, the host asked O’Rourke if he believed the president was a white supremacist.

“He is. He has made that very clear,” O’Rourke answered. “He dehumanized those who do not look and pray like the majority of people here. He said I wish we had more immigrants from Nordic countries because those from Haiti bring AIDS, those from Africa are s—hole nations.”

King called on people on both sides to come together to “look for solutions.”

“What President Trump and First Lady Melania did was to go down and look for solutions. We have to overcome evil with good. When people call each other racist, we are one blood. One human race, different ethnicities –we’re not color blind, we can see, but that is for the purpose of appreciating each other and we have to do that,” said King.

Responding to Oprah Winfrey’s remark that the country must “return to our core moral center,” King said she found the left’s calls for morals hypocritical.

“A lot of those calling Trump a racist and white supremacist, most of them support killing in a very brutal way called abortion. The youngest, the weakest the most beautiful of us killing them in the womb. How immoral is that,” she concluded.

Frontier Airlines giving away free flights to travelers with very specific last names

Bad news for anyone burdened with a surname that isn’t “Green” or Greene.”

As part of its “Green Week” celebrations, Frontier Airlines has announced that anyone with the surname Green, or Greene, is eligible for a free domestic flight with the carrier.

MAN REPORTEDLY DENIED PASSPORT BECAUSE OF ‘VULGAR’ LAST NAME

However, the offer comes with several caveats — the biggest being that eligible participants must depart for their one-way or round-trip flights on Aug. 13, 2019, and, if booking a round-trip flight, they must return by Aug. 20 at 11:59 p.m.

Greens, or Greenes, must also provide official documentation of their surnames, of course, and the offer does not extend to any family members who don’t share the name.

Passengers deemed eligible will later be refunded – up to $400 – by Sept. 15, according to Frontier.

The promotion comes amid Frontier’s “Green Week” campaign, to highlight their efforts to become the most eco-friendly carrier in the U.S.

“Our fleet’s fuel efficiency is unmatched by other U.S. airlines and allows Frontier to deliver not only the lowest fares but the most sustainable approach to flying,” said Barry Biffle, President and CEO of Frontier Airlines, in a press release. “We are proud to serve communities across the U.S. and understand the importance of being good stewards of the environment. We’re focused on lessening Frontier’s impact on the environment and continually search for innovative solutions and technology to achieve that.”

As part of its Green Week celebrations, Frontier also touted the use of Airbus A320neo aircraft, which they described as having optimal fuel efficiency. (Frontier)

To that end, Frontier also launched its “greenest flight” on Wednesday, from Denver to Greenville, S.C., on the Airbus A230neo, which the airline describes as “one of the most fuel-efficient” in the world. Passengers on the flight were served refreshments in eco-friendly packaging alongside compostable cups and napkins, and Frontier said it planted “enough trees” to offset the flight’s carbon footprint.

Ooops! SoftBank president accidentally leaks iPhone 11 release date

If Apple is true to form, the iPhone 11 will be released in September. And if the president of SoftBank is to be believed, you’ll be able to buy one on Sept. 20.

As 9To5Mac reports, during an investor event this week in Japan, SoftBank president Ken Miyauchi was asked when he expected the iPhone 11 to launch. To everyone’s surprise, he managed to give away the release date in a roundabout way.

On Oct. 1, a new Telecommunications Business Law goes into effect in Japan. It sees the end of carrier bundling when selling smartphones to consumers and means data and device plans must be sold separately. The reason the new law is important is because Miyauchi was asked how SoftBank would handle an expected September release for the iPhone 11 considering the new law being active the following month.

In response, Miyauchi said, “Honestly, I am wondering what should I do for 10 days,” which suggests the iPhone 11 will arrive 10 days before the new law and therefore launches on Friday, Sept. 20. That fits with what Apple did last year when the iPhone XS launched on Friday, Sept. 21.

More From PCmag

If Sept. 20 is the release date, then we should expect an iPhone event on Sept. 10 and then pre-orders to open on Sept. 13. Apple will obviously be hoping for swift sales of its new phones, but the new square camera bump on the back won’t be to everyone’s taste and we could see more consumers than usual taking a wait-and-see approach to the iPhone 11.

Adorable orphaned baby koala gets arm cast after falling from tree

Aww.

Let’s try that again — Awwwwww.

Pictures have surfaced of a baby koala wearing a wee little arm cast after the mini marsupial fell out of a tree in Melbourne, Australia.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MONKEY GOES VIRAL

The baby koala was also orphaned after her mother was euthanized. She was later placed in the care of handlers at Werribee Open Range Zoo, according to Metro.

According to National Geographic, female koalas carry their offspring inside their pouches for up to six months, but because of the unfortunate circumstances, this female joey, at 150 days old and weighing less than 500 grams, does not have that privilege.

Veterinarian nurse Jess Rice said that when an animal carer brought the baby koala to them, “It was really touch and go” at first, adding that the marsupial was at the stage where she would have just started to bring her head out of her mother’s pouch. “Joeys that size don’t have a good survival rate in care,” Rice said in a press release obtained by Fox News.

After they X-rayed her and realized the arm was broken, the koala was fitted with a cast, “not much thicker than a finger,” and given round-the-clock care.

The baby koala was also fed with a marsupial milk replacer and Rice introduced her a temporary surrogate mother, a stuffed toy.

“Bonding and company is really important to a joey of that age,” Rice added in the release. “Koala joeys are often given toys to provide comfort and teach them how to hang off the fur like they would with their mother.”

The joey has now started to put on weight and was released to a specialist wildlife carer after gaining the requisite strength. However, it will be some time, more than a year, before the koala is released into the wild, Rice said.

“It will be more than a year before she’s old enough to be released into the wild, so she needs to be with a carer with the resources to take care of her for that long. Koalas are just one of the native animals we have to be so careful to take care of in Victoria and that we have the privilege of helping at Werribee Open Range Zoo.”

Population in decline

According to experts, koala bears are “functionally extinct,” as there are not enough breeding adults left to support another generation. Estimates differ, but a recent study from the Australian Koala Foundation said that there are only 80,000 koalas left in the wild.

The species has been ravaged by climate change, deforestation and chlamydia. Koalas are on the IUCN’s “Red List,” indicating a “vulnerable” state.

Not all hope is lost, however. According to a recent study published in the journal Nature Scientific Reports, scientists believe they have found the last chlamydia-free koalas, which could help the species’ population figures.

Monica Lewinsky, infamous for an affair with former President Bill Clinton, mocked Vice President Mike Pence for comments he made about kneeling in prayer.

The Washington Times shared the headline “Mike Pence: ‘Spend more time on your knees than on the internet,’ referencing an answer he gave during a Q&A with the Alliance Defending Freedom on Tuesday.

PACQUIAO DEBATES PHILIPPINE SENATOR ON JESUS EXECUTION DURING DEATH PENALTY DEBATE

And on Thursday Lewinsky, who produced the third season of “American Crime Story” centered on the 90s scandals that put her in the national spotlight, responded to a tweet saying, “OK, who’s gonna tell him?”

Lewinsky, who has taken up an anti-cyberbullying campaign, tweeted: “def not me.”

Lewinsky’s mockery isn’t the first time Pence has been targeted for how he talks about prayer. The ladies on “The View” said the former governor of Indiana has a “mental illness” for talking to Jesus.

He has also been lambasted as a “sexist dinosaur” for not dining alone with other women besides his wife, similar to the “Billy Graham rule” that is now known as the “Mike Pence rule,” and has been criticized by South Bend, Ind. Mayor and Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg for “hurting people” by advancing “homophobic policies.”

On Tuesday, Michael Farris, ADF president, CEO, and general counsel, was asking the vice president advice on how he deals with attacks on his faith.

The outspoken evangelical then went on to share how he and his wife, Second Lady Karen Pence, who was harassed for teaching art at a private Christian school outside D.C., work to forgive anyone who speaks against them.

Lawyers for Harvey Weinstein asked the court let the disgraced producer travel to Italy and Spain to work on a stage production of “Cinema Paradiso” — a request a judge swiftly slapped down.

In a letter to Justice James Burke, defense attorney Arthur Aidala said the fallen movie mogul wants to fly to Europe from Aug. 12 to Aug. 22 for the project.

Burke, in a terse one-line decision issued Wednesday, wrote, “The request for a change in bail conditions is denied.”

Prosecutor Joan Illuzzi-Orbon also opposed the last-minute business trip scheduled less than a month before his predatory sex assault and rape trial is slated to begin Sept. 9 in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Aidala wrote in the letter that, “His [Weinstein’s] work in Italy would involve in-person meetings with composer Ennio Morriconi, who is over 90 years old and unable to travel, and the film-maker and business partner, Giuseppe Tornatore.”

Tornatore directed the 1988 Oscar-winning movie, which was distributed by Miramax, a company Weinstein co-founded.

The letter says that Weinstein also planned to meet with designers, directors and investors in Spain. The producer had to turn over his passport as part of his $1 million bail package, which includes an ankle monitor.

“This trip is critical to Mr. Weinstein’s ability to earn money to pay, inter alia, his considerable legal expenses, as he has been unable to work here in the United States for two years,” Aidala wrote. A copy of the deal memo says that Tornotore paid S2BN Entertainment $50,000 for the initial option of the film’s live-stage rights. The court papers do not state what Weinstein would earn from the project.

In the papers, Aidala proposes that detective-turned-private investigator Herman Weisberg travel with Weinstein as his 24-hour-a-day chaperone.

“That monitoring will involve a two-person security team that will accompany Mr. Weinstein at all times during his travel, as well as a GPS monitoring device,” the lawyer says.

The letter includes a proposal of services that Weisberg’s firm Sage Intelligence would provide as part of his babysitting duties.

In addition, attorneys Bruno della Ragione and Filomena Cusano provided a letter stating that it is “crucial” that Weinstein travel to Europe for the project and cite his numerous contributions to Italian cinema, including the Oscar-Winning films “Life is Beautiful” and “Il Postino.”

Defense lawyer Donna Rotunno said that Weinstein should be presumed innocent and has adhered to every single condition of his bail agreement.

“He has been blocked from working in his industry, and when he tries to earn an honest living, is denied by the court,” the attorney said. “This exemplifies the problem with this current environment of conviction and punishment before trial, yielding to mob justice. That this is even a story is demonstrative of how low we have sank.”

Herd of 2020 presidential hopefuls to stampede the annual Iowa State Fair

More than 20 candidates running for president are heading to the Hawkeye State this week for the Iowa State Fair – the annual event that features a famous “Butter Cow” and has long attracted White House aspirants dating back to Dwight Eisenhower’s visit in the 1950s.

Ever since then, candidates have eyed the fair for a chance to butter up caucus-goers and give them their best pitch on the so-called “political soapbox.”

Candidates are given 20 minutes each on the soapbox. But the Iowa State Fair is not all about politics: it’s about the people and it’s about the food.

The fair has 69 entrees on a stick this year and a roster of new fried foods for candidates to sink their teeth into. And new this year: a beer perfect for pairing with an Iowa Corn dog. Corn Dog Ale – is brewed with 150 pounds of hot dog buns and cornbread.

This year, nearly every Democratic candidate running for president will make an appearance and many are first-timers.

But it will be a return to the fair for former Vice President Joe Biden, who campaigned for president at the event in 2007 and said, “if you ever wanted to be president of the United States, now is the time to run for president.”

Biden hopes this time is his time to be on the top of the ticket. A new Quinnipiac poll shows Biden still leading the pack of candidates with 32 percent support among Democrats and Independents. Biden is scheduled to speak on the soapbox on Thursday afternoon.

Not every candidate wanting to be in Iowa will be able to attend: Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke canceled his appearance following the mass shooting in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.
