Hannity, de Blasio spar over the Green New Deal

Democratic presidential candidate Bill de Blasio butted heads with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday night over the Green New Deal, including its potential impact on construction in New York City.

“It’s very dangerous. The U.N. estimates it’s 12 years before we deal with much deeper problems,” de Blasio, the Democratic mayor of New York City, said during an interview on “Hannity.”

“Then what the hell are we arguing for? Let’s throw a big party if it’s only 12 years,” Hannity responded, dismissive of the U.N. report.

“Let’s get to work. The Green New Deal gives us that opportunity,” de Blasio responded. (New York City has proposed its own local Green New Deal initiative, in addition to the nationwide proposal pitched by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass.)

De Blasio and Hannity sparred, going back and forth over the climate-change proposal’s impact on the coal, oil and natural gas industries, with Hannity telling the candidate that it would impact the country negatively.

“I’m recognizing a truth that you fail to recognize, that every economy in this world is run on oil, gas, and coal. And if America gets off it … in ten years you will watch the greatest depression in the quickest period of time,” Hannity told de Blasio, who responded by citing Germany’s move to “renewables.”

The New York City mayor also defended his call for energy-efficient skyscrapers as part of the city’s Green New Deal, citing what he said was the buildings’ impact on climate change.

“We cannot go on this way. We need a Green New Deal and one of the key things is to make sure buildings don’t omit what they used to,” de Blasio said.

In May, de Blasio faced a crowd of angry protesters during a rally to promote the city’s Green New Deal plan. The event was held inside the lobby of Trump Tower, where the Democrat threatened President Trump’s family company with millions of dollars in fines if its buildings don’t comply with new environmental standards.

Fox News’ Andrew O’Reilly contributed to this report.

Democratic presidential candidate Bill de Blasio defended his stance on gun control during an exclusive interview with Sean Hannity.

De Blasio, the mayor of New York City, claimed New York is the safest large American city and that the police are the best outlet to keep people safe, on Wednesday’s “Hannity.”

“You’re in the safest big city in America.. with the finest police force in America,” he said.

“We keep people safe. Crime’s gone down for the last six years on my watch.

NYC MAYOR, 2020 HOPEFUL DE BLASIO TELL ‘HANNITY’ HE SUPPORTS ‘BORDER SECURITY, NOT WALLS’

“I believe right now what’s wrong in this country is not that people have rights around guns, it’s there are no gun safety measures like background checks.”

In response, Hannity said he had to submit to a background check to obtain his gun permit in the state of New York.

De Blasio said the background checks should nonetheless be more “sufficient.”

“Ask the NYPD and they’ll tell you they believe in strong gun laws to keep officers and civilians safe,” he added.

“Everyone deserves to be safe. The answer is not for everyone to have a firearm — any more than the answer is not for every teacher to have a firearm.

CHRIS STIREWALT: TEXAS SAFE FOR REPUBLICANS IN 2020 UNLESS BIDEN THE NOMINEE

“I believe we should have background checks. We need an assault weapons ban.”

Responding to the mayor, Hannity said the presidential hopeful was dodging the question of personal firearm ownership.

“All the guns that are out there, that are threatening our officers and our civilians alike… I believe people have rights, I believe in gun safety laws,” he responded.

“We have a police department… that is making it safer all the time — that’s the best way to protect people.”

When Hannity pressed further, de Blasio quipped, “I ain’t buying what you’re selling.”

Actor Danny Trejo helps rescue child from overturned vehicle

Actor Danny Trejo has made a career of playing villains on the big screen, but he was a real-life hero Wednesday when he helped save a special-needs child trapped in an overturned car in Los Angeles.

Trejo, 75, was in the San Fernando Valley’s Sylmar neighborhood when two vehicles collided, causing one to overturn onto its roof with a young boy strapped to a car seat inside, KABC reported.

The “Machete” actor crawled underneath the wreck but couldn’t unbuckle the child’s seat belt from his angle. Another bystander, a young woman, was able to get to the belt and Trejo was able to pull the child out, the news station said.

The boy’s grandmother was trapped in the driver’s seat and freed by firefighters with the Los Angeles Fire Department, the station reported.

The outlet said Trejo tried distracting the boy while fire personnel worked to free her.

“He was panicked,” Trejo said of the boy. “I said ‘OK, we have to use our superpowers.’ So he screamed ‘Superpowers!’ and we started yelling ‘Superpowers! I said, ‘Do this, with the muscles.’ He said ‘muscles.'”

“We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident,” he added.

Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., appeared on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Wednesday and advocated against any gun bans on the heels of the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, instead focusing on the what drives “young men” to take up arms in such lethal fashion.

“We have to get at the deeper ills here on why these young men are committing these heinous acts. We’ve had guns in our history our entire history. But these shootings are new and it’s this generation,” Waltz told MacCallum, saying the problem was generational.

Waltz called for finding a way to reintegrating these young people into the community.

“I think we have to take a strategic look at how we get these young men off their couch, off their video games and out serving, identify in their communities again,” Waltz said.

The lawmaker said he would propose a bill to incentivize national service which he says society has not been stressing.

Waltz says he would not consider any broad gun bans, saying the Second Amendment needed to be protected.

Hollywood star says he had to ‘go outside and burn one’ to get through dinner with Donald Trump

Actor Woody Harrelson revealed in a recent interview that he had a “brutal” dinner with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump years ago, saying “It got so bad” that he had to “go outside” and smoke.

During an interview with Esquire Magazine, Harrelson recalled a dinner his friend, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, had invited him to where Ventura suspected that Trump was going to ask him to be his vice president in a 2004 campaign run.

“So, Jesse Ventura is a buddy of mine, and he called me up — and this is in, oh, 2002 — and said, ‘Donald Trump is going to try to convince me to be his running mate for the Democratic ticket in 2004. Will you be my date?’” Harrelson said.

“I said, ‘Yeah, man.’ So we all met at Trump Tower, sat down. Melania was there, only she wasn’t his wife yet. And it was, let me tell you, a brutal dinner. Two and a half hours. The fun part was watching Jesse’s moves. It would look like Trump had him pinned, was going to get him to say yes, and then Jesse would slip out at the last second.”

JEFF DANIELS SAYS DEMOCRATS NEED A CANDIDATE WHO CAN ‘PUNCH’ TRUMP ‘IN THE FACE’

The Oscar-nominated actor accused Trump of having a “monologue monopoly” at the dinner table at not letting him, Ventura, or the future first lady speak. And it “got so bad” that Harrelson had to leave the room.

“Now, at a fair table with four people, each person is entitled to 25 percent of the conversation, right? I’d say Melania got about 0.1 percent, maybe. I got about 1 percent. And the governor, Jesse, he got about 3 percent,” Harrelson explained. “Trump took the rest. It got so bad I had to go outside and burn one before returning to the monologue monopoly.”

He continued,  “Listen, I came up through Hollywood, so I’ve seen narcissists. This guy was beyond. It blew my mind. He did say one thing that was interesting, though. He said, ‘You know, I’m worth four billion dollars,’ or maybe he said five billion dollars—one of those numbers, I forget.

“Anyway, he said, ‘I’m worth however- many billion dollars. But when I die, no matter how much it is, I know my kids are going to fight over it.’ That was the one true statement he made that night, and I thought, ‘Okay, yeah, that’s pretty cool.’”

The “Zombieland” star also revealed that he went to college with Vice President Mike Pence.

“As a freshman, I gave a sermon to a youth group, and Mike was the guy running the show,” Harrelson recalled. “He was a junior, I think … He struck me as a nice guy, very sincere. I don’t know how well we’d get along now, but we got along okay then.”

Staffers at a German zoo were shocked when a lioness ate her two cubs a mere three days after giving birth to them, officials said Monday.

Kigali, 5, gave birth to the nameless cubs at the Leipzig Zoo on Friday, only to wind up eating them whole.

“The virgin mother first took care of her boys before she suddenly ate the two babies completely during the fur care,” the zoo posted on Facebook on Monday.

Zoo officials said Kigali had been taking care of the cubs at first, as most mothers would. An autopsy to determine whether the infants were ill or had developmental issues will be impossible now that they’ve been devoured, zoo officials said.

The Facebook post said the lion had eaten regularly. She is being resocialized with Majo, the male lion who fathered the cubs.

Connecticut man, 75, charged with murdering ex-wife found dead in storage container

A Connecticut man accused of killing his ex-wife and attempting to murder his stepson was found dead in a shipping container Tuesday evening in what police believe was a suicide, according to reports.

Investigators say James Taylor, 75, stormed into his stepson’s Fairfield home on Feb. 3, fatally shot his 70-year-old ex-wife Catherine and tried to shoot his 45-year-old stepson, Donald Garamella.

Garamella managed to tackle Taylor as he was reloading his weapon and held him down until police arrived, the Connecticut Post reported.

Taylor was charged with murder, attempted murder, home invasion, first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and illegal discharge of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty and was freed on a $2 million bond. As a condition of release, he was required to wear a GPS tracking device and be confined to his son’s home.

Officers descended on home shortly after 5 p.m. after the GPS device was turned off, Fox 61 reported. When police called Taylor’s phone, they could hear it ringing inside a 10-by-40 foot storage container on the property that was locked from the inside, Capt. Robert Kalamaras said.

A team of multiple law enforcement agencies, including a bomb squad from nearby Stamford, spent five hours working their way into the container, police said.

Rep. Gaetz: Nadler request for Justice Kavanaugh’s Bush-era records an effort to ‘delegitimize’ him

Rep. Jerry Nadler’s motion to seek Bush-era records of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is a delegitimization effort, according to Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

The New York Democrat’s move is similar to how the House Judiciary Committee chairman tried to “relitigate” the Russia investigation, Gaetz claimed Wednesday on “The Story.”

“This is an effort to delegitimize Brett Kavanaugh despite the fact that he was nominated and confirmed,” he said.

“Someone should remind Chairman Nadler that he is not a member of the United States Senate and Brett Kavanaugh is a member of the United States Supreme Court.

NADLER SLAMMED FOR ‘HARASSMENT’ AFTER FRESH KAVANAUGH DOC REQUESTS

“They tried to relitigate the Russia investigation — that didn’t work out — now they’re trying to relitigate the Kavanaugh confirmation.”

In addition, Gaetz claimed the New York City lawmaker could use his position as chairman of a powerful House committee to work on more pressing issues.

“We really do have serious issues to address in the Judiciary Committee, like reforming our asylum laws,” he said, adding Nadler could also work with Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to draft bipartisan “red flag” gun control laws.

“Those are substantive issues that the American people want to see us addressing,” he said.

NADLER: SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE PRESIDENT TRUMP ‘GUILTY OF HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS’ CONTAINED IN MUELLER REPORT

Agreeing with Gaetz’ assertions on Kavanaugh, Fox News correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera claimed Nadler is trying to find a victory during his tenure as chairman.

“Their ‘Russiagate’ hoax did not play out,” he said.

On Tuesday, Nadler’s committee’s top Republican, Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., slammed the Democratic lawmaker for what he called “harassment” of Kavanaugh.

“Senate Democrats spent months launching false accusations in an attempt to smear Justice Kavanaugh’s reputation and block his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, and now House Democrats want to follow suit with yet another fishing expedition to tarnish his good name,” Collins said.

That day, Nadler — along with Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga. — wrote to the National Archives to seek “certain presidential records related to Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s service in the White House from 2001 to 2006.”

They cited the Presidential Records Act, which allows congressional committees to obtain “contain information that is needed for the conduct of [their] business and that is not otherwise available,” subject to executive privilege and other limitations.

Spiritual guru Marianne Williamson distanced herself from several of her 2020 competitors who’ve been attacking President Trump following the deadly mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that left 31 dead, saying it’s “unfair” to”directly link the president to last weekend’s tragedies.

Appearing on “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” Williamson expressed that it was the “right thing” to visit the victims and first responders in El Paso and Dayton, telling Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum that it’s “part of the job” as president and that “it would have been wrong” for him not to despite calls from protestors to stay away.

Williamson was asked if it was “fair” to directly link Trump to the massacres that have taken place as prominent 2020 candidates like El Paso native Beto O’Rourke and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J. and accuse the president of “fanning the flames” of white supremacy.

“I think they’re two different things, fanning the flames is different than a direct link,” Williamson told MacCallum. “Do I think he has fanned the flames? Absolutely. Do I think there’s a direct link? No.”

The best-selling author explained how she believes Trump has fanned the flames “from the beginning of his candidacy” and how he has talked “very disparagingly” of people since.

“Now let’s be very clear here. To me, this should not be a right or left issue, it should not be a Democrat or Republican issue, he has spoken in a way George Bush wouldn’t have, neither George Bush would have,” Williamson said. “This criticism is not based on his politics. This criticism is based on the way he speaks about fellow Americans.”

“So absolutely that I believe he has fanned the flames of the worst aspects of the American character. That is not, however, to say that there is a direct link. That would be unfair.”

Williamson went on to call Trump’s White House speech “quite beautiful” and agreed with the president’s remarks to reporters Wednesday morning calling illegal immigration a “terrible thing” for the country and that migrants should come in “legally” and “ideally… through merit.” She did, however, criticize the Trump administration for its enforcement of child separation.
