Hillary Clinton admonishes Trump after he urges her to run again: ‘Don’t tempt me’

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton had an apparently contemptuous response to President Trump Tuesday after he mocked her and called for her to run again in 2020.

“Don’t tempt me. Do your job,” Clinton tweeted back. Trump had tweeted that Clinton — “The Crooked one” — could return if she explained her “high crimes and misdemeanors,” referring to her email scandal.

“I think that Crooked Hillary Clinton should enter the race to try and steal it away from Uber Left Elizabeth Warren. Only one condition. The Crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors including how & why she deleted 33,000 Emails AFTER getting ‘C’ Subpoena!”

MICHAEL GOODWIN: HILLARY CLINTON NEEDS TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT AGAIN — OR GET OVER IT ALREADY

Clinton famously lost the 2016 presidential election after a long and contentious battle during which Trump repeatedly accused her of wrongdoing and suggested he would prosecute her after winning the White House. Clinton, for her part, later described the email controversy as a “witch hunt.”

More from Media

Amid Trump’s tweet, polling showed a tight race between Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and former Vice President Joe Biden as they vie for the 2020 Democratic nomination.

Clinton previously said that she has advised multiple candidates during the primary race. Her Tuesday tweet fueled speculation that she might try and run, although she’s said she wouldn’t. In March, a report surfaced that Clinton hadn’t completely shut the door on 2020 and was waiting for the release of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

When Trump tweeted about her possible run, Clinton mocked him with a gif from the movie, “Mean Girls.”

Clinton previously took responsibility for her 2016 loss but has maintained that other factors — like Russia and former FBI Director James Comey — contributed to her loss. Most recently, she’s gained publicity for releasing a book with her daughter, Chelsea.

During an appearance on “The View,” she backed Congress’ impeachment inquiry, arguing that it was unavoidable after the president tried to “extort” Ukraine into investigating Biden.

Sarah Hyland is in wedding planning mode.

The “Modern Family” actress, who got engaged to “Bachelor in Paradise” star Wells Adams over the summer, asked pal Vanessa Hudgens to be a bridesmaid this past weekend.

Hudgens, 30, tagged Hyland, 29, in a photo on her Instagram Story, which featured a personalized wooden box decorated with gold leaves and a white bow, according to People. The former Disney star is also said to have posted a “bridesmaid” sticker.

A 9-year-old Illinois child has been charged with setting an April fire in a mobile home that killed three small children and two adults, according to reports Tuesday.

The unidentified juvenile has been charged with five counts of murder, two counts of arson and one count of aggravated arson, Woodford County State’s Attorney Greg Minger told the Peoria Journal Star.

The April 6 fire near Goodfield, southeast of Peoria, killed Kathryn Murray, 69; Jason Wall, 34; Rose Alwood, 2; Daemeon Wall, 2; and Ariel Wall, 1.

MICHIGAN BOY, 12, BURNED IN ‘FIRE CHALLENGE’ GAME, MOM SAYS

The fire began at around 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, the paper reported. By the time firefighters arrived a few minutes later, the trailer was engulfed in flames.

Autopsies revealed they all died of smoke inhalation, the paper reported.

Katrina Alwood, 27, and her juvenile son survived.

She and Jason Wall were engaged to be married, the paper reported.

They were the parents of Ariel and Daemeon. Rose was a niece. Muray was Katrina Alwood’s grandmother.

Minger said he decided to charge the boy after reading through various authoritative reports about the fire numerous times, the Journal Star reported.

DULUTH SYNAGOGUE FIRE WAS ACT OF ARSON BY 1 PERSON, APPARENTLY NOT HATE CRIME: POLICE

“It was a heavy decision,” he said. “It’s a tragedy, but at the end of the day it’s charging a very young person with one of the most serious crimes we have.

“But, I just think it needs to be done at this point, for finality.”

Minger said the boy will be subject to a bench trial, before a judge and without a jury.

The child would face five years’ probation if convicted and any probationary period would not go beyond the age of 21.

Imprisonment is not an option.

“Probation, given the age, is about the only outcome that could happen here,” the prosecutor told the paper.

James Carafano: Is Trump serious about Syria? Here’s what you must always remember

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6093148884001_6093150160001-vs James Carafano: Is Trump serious about Syria? Here's what you must always remember James Jay Carafano fox-news/world/conflicts/syria fox-news/politics/executive/white-house fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc c93671c3-3ea0-5629-8da5-d16afae5a6ee article

Can anything President Trump touches not become an occasion for beating our breasts and rending our garments? Voices in Washington on the right and left are hyperventilating over the president allegedly giving a green light to military operations in Syria. Maybe they should catch their breath first.

It is always a bad idea to measure U.S. foreign policy based on Trump’s tweets, on speculative reporting, or on imaginative interpretation of what the president meant. For starters, why not start with the actual policy?

As a Department of Defense statement clarified, “The Department of Defense made clear to Turkey — as did the President — that we do not endorse a Turkish operation in Northern Syria. The U.S. Armed Forces will not support, or be involved in any such operation.” So, for starters, let’s be clear about the fact that the United States didn’t do anything.

JUDITH MILLER: TRUMP’S SYRIA MOVE ALL WRONG – IT JEOPARDIZES COSTLY VICTORY OVER ISIS, BETRAYS THE KURDS

Should the U.S. have done something? That’s a different question.

When it comes to arguing what Washington should do on foreign policy matters, the first thing to do is ask: What are the U.S. interests that need to be furthered or safeguarded? In the case of Syria, there are really three priorities the administration needs to protect.

1. We don’t need another Caliphate. The U.S. has learned painful lessons of what happens when we leave transnational Islamist terrorist sanctuaries unmolested. Administration policies should work to forestall the resurgence of terrorist Disneylands in the Middle East.

2. We don’t need more mass genocides and masses of refugees. It is in U.S. interests to keep the problems in Syria from spilling over and destabilizing the region or see them pour into Western Europe.

3. Keep Iran at bay. Iran would like to use Syria as a superhighway for resupplying Hezbollah and a platform for threatening Israel. Israel is America’s most important ally in the Middle East. U.S. policy should contribute to making Israel more safe — not less.

So the question is, does the Turkish operation, if conducted in the manner in which the Turkish government claims, threaten any of the U.S. interests in Syria?

Arguably not.

The U.S. maintains a footprint in Syria for specific purposes—the three reasons outlined above. If the Turkish military messed with that, there might be a reason for the administration to panic. Right now, this doesn’t look to be the case.

As a Pentagon spokesman pointed out, “In conversations between the Department and the Turkish military, we have consistently stressed that coordination and cooperation were the best path toward security in the area.” In this respect, it is good that the Turks told us what they were doing to minimize the possibility of putting U.S. forces or assets at risk. Beyond that, what the administration has done has make clear to the Turks that they’re responsible for their actions.

More from Opinion

It is not surprising that Turkey would want to undertake a limited incursion to further stabilize an uncontrolled border with Syria. Turkey has a responsibility to ensure that the region is not a platform for terrorist attacks. It also makes sense to open spaces for refugees, which Turkey has hosted, to safely return to their homeland and begin the process of rebuilding.

The Turks know the risks and responsibilities that go with that. For one, there are thousands of ISIS fighters being held in this territory. The Turks will either be taking custody of them, or they could well find them breaking out and running around loss. Either way, the Turks will have to be responsible that they don’t become a threat and provide the seed corn of the next Caliphate.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE OPINION NEWSLETTER

There are also many civilians in this area. They need to be humanely treated and respected as innocents on the battlefield.

The Turkish government has to be held accountable for their actions. But, in turn, it makes no sense for the U.S. to get into criticizing the Turks for something they haven’t done.

There could be a role for the U.S. in helping bring more stability to this part of Syria. That, in turn, could help promote American interests and, at the same time, potentially further reduce requirements for a U.S. footprint on the ground in Syria. The U.S. should try to narrow the differences between Turkey and Syrian Kurds by brokering a durable understanding between them, just as it brokered better relations between Turkey and the Iraqi Kurds.

Further, where and when possible, the U.S. should consider extraditing high-value ISIS members to the United States for trial. If they are a threat to us, and we can try them and take them over the Turks’ hands, that makes sense for both countries.

GOP rep introduces resolution to expel Nancy Pelosi from House

A Louisiana Republican congressman introduced a resolution Tuesday to expel Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., from the House of Representatives, the latest sign that frustration in the GOP is building as Democrats continue their impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

Rep. Ralph Abraham’s resolution stands no realistic chance of passing in the Democratic-controlled House. Likewise, Republicans have argued that Democrats’ potential articles of impeachment are all but certain to stall if they ever reach the Senate.

THE LATEST REPORTING FROM FOX NEWS IN THE TRUMP IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY AND UKRAINE CONTROVERSY

“Nancy Pelosi’s vicious crusade against our lawfully-elected President is nothing more than a politically-motivated witch hunt and it must be stopped,” Abraham said in a statement. “She has disgraced the people’s House and weaponized the Speaker’s gavel for her party’s political gain.”

Abraham added: “House Democrats spent nearly three years obsessed with election meddling only to dwarf any such efforts with their own deceitful plan to nullify the 2016 election and prevent President Trump from winning in 2020. I have introduced a resolution calling for her to be expelled from the House and for the Speaker’s Office to be vacated.”

Fox News is told that the resolution has been closely held, and hasn’t secured many Republican cosponsors — but that Abraham’s office expects it to gain traction.

The text of the resolution reads simply: “Resolved, That pursuant to Article 1, Section 5, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution, Representative Nancy Pelosi be, and she hereby is, expelled from the House of Representatives and the Office of the Speaker is declared to be vacant.”

IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY GAINS SUPPORT IN NEW POLL

That constitutional clause holds that “Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”

Rep. Ralph Abraham, R-La., is calling for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s ouster. (U.S. House of Representatives)

The Trump administration has mirrored congressional Republicans’ aggressive approach in response to Democrats’ impeachment inquiry. The State Department on Tuesday barred Gordon Sondland, the U.S. European Union ambassador, from appearing before a House panel conducting the probe.

“I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify, but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away, and true facts are not allowed out for the public to see,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

The strategy risks further provoking Democrats in the impeachment probe, setting up court challenges and the potential for lawmakers to draw up an article of impeachment accusing Trump of obstructing their investigations. California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House intelligence committee, said that Sondland’s no-show would be grounds for obstruction of justice and could give a preview of what some of the articles of impeachment against Trump would entail.

But as lawmakers seek to amass ammunition to be used in an impeachment trial, the White House increasingly believes all-out warfare is its best course of action.

“What they did to this country is unthinkable. It’s lucky that I’m the president. A lot of people said very few people could handle it. I sort of thrive on it,” Trump said Monday at the White House. “You can’t impeach a president for doing a great job. This is a scam.”

Fox News’ Adam Shaw and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Hailey Baldwin shares Bible verse after Justin Bieber gets backlash from Taylor Swift fans

Hailey Baldwin posted a Bible verse on Instagram shortly after she and husband, Justin Bieber, faced backlash from Taylor Swift fans.

The 22-year-old model shared a translated verse about togetherness and getting along Monday night after a video she recorded with Bieber caught severe heat on social media.

“How wonderful, how beautiful, when brothers and sisters get along!” the quote read. “It’s like costly anointing oil flowing down head and beard, Flowing down Aaron’s beard, flowing down the collar of his priestly robes. It’s like the dew on Mount Hermon flowing down the slopes of Zion. Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing, ordains eternal life. Psalm 133:1-3.”

According to Us Weekly, the line is from Eugene H. Peterson’s 2002 book “The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language.”

Many believe the quote is an attempt from Baldwin to smooth things over after she and Bieber made a parody video of a clip Swift’s mother sent to “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” The clip depicts the Grammy-winner crying over a banana while high on medication after undergoing LASIK eye surgery.

Baldwin filmed as Bieber recreated the viral moment for his Instagram Live. The move clearly rubbed Swift fans the wrong way as their jabs eventually prompted a response from Baldwin.

In a series of since-deleted tweets, Baldwin addressed the backlash directly.

“I never knew I could make somebody so upset. Truly I’m so sorry you’re THIS upset?!” she said (via People). “Lord have mercy I hope I’m never this upset about someone I don’t know!!”

“Listen. I think it’s awesome how passionate you are and how hard you ride for someone you’re a fan of, it’s beautiful how dedicated you are,” Baldwin continued. “If there’s something I did to personally hurt you or offend you I’m sorry, it’s not my intention to upset you by any means but being angry at someone you don’t know does nothing for you. I know cause I been there.. all it’s gonna do is make you miserable. Don’t let ME of all people get you feeling that way. Trust me, I’m not worth the energy, nobody should be worth that energy.”

Security officer shoots, kills suspected burglar at Dallas Apple store, police say

A security guard fatally shot an armed burglar inside a Dallas Apple store Tuesday morning, according to police.

The shooting took place around 2:30 a.m., police said in a press release. At that time, the store was open because of overnight construction, Fox 4 reported.

A police spokesman said the store’s back door was open so construction workers could go in and out. The suspect, clad in body armor and armed with an assault rifle, entered the rear of the building “in an attempt to commit a robbery,” Sgt. Warren Mitchell said.

The burglar then allegedly tried to disarm a security guard who was sitting by the door. The security guard pulled out his weapon and fired “multiple shots at the suspect,” Mitchell said.

The burglar fled the store but collapsed in an alley. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

“Where is Hillary?”

That was the question then-U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice’s mother asked when she told her she would be appearing on all five Sunday morning political shows on Sept. 16, 2012 — just five days after the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The plan was to appear in place of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, at the White House’s request.

“I smell a rat,” her mother said. “This is not a good idea. Can’t you get out of it?”

The exchange was detailed in Rice’s new book, “Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For,” as she recalled what led to and what fueled the biggest political controversy of her government career — those appearances on “Fox News Sunday,” ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” NBC’s “Meet the Press,” and CNN’s “State of the Union.” Her flawed characterization of the attacks as resulting from a spontaneous protest later made her the target of GOP criticism that ultimately led to her withdrawing from consideration to succeed Clinton as secretary of state.

Looking back, Rice insisted in her book that she does not believe Clinton set her up – Rice’s mother feels differently – but recognizes that Clinton and National Security Adviser Tom Donilon likely knew what was coming.

“I do believe that Hillary Clinton and Tom Donilon appreciated what I did not,” Rice said. “The first person to tell the public about a highly political tragedy was likely to pay a price.”

In the memoir, Rice recalled delivering talking points provided to her by the CIA, which were corrected after the fact — the result, she said, of updated intelligence. She soon became the face of the Obama administration’s response to the attack, which was strongly criticized by GOP lawmakers.

During her appearances, Rice said that the terrorist attack in Benghazi spun out of “demonstrations” that had been taking place.

“This information turned out to be wrong,” Rice wrote, “and days after my appearance, the [Intelligence Community] revised its judgment to reflect their subsequent determination that there were no protests.”

Rice was also called out for supposedly claiming that the attack was in response to an anti-Muslim video that was posted online. In her book, she insisted this is not what she said — making the distinction that the video was her stated reason for unrest in Cairo, Egypt, and that the Benghazi attack was in turn inspired by what was happening in Cairo.

The political climate was tense at this time, less than two months before a presidential election, but Rice described the period after the election as even worse, “because there was no end in sight to the incoming hits.” At this point, Rice was being considered for the secretary of state job. She lamented that with the exception of President Barack Obama himself, she did not feel that the White House had her back at this time.

“I was distressed initially to see little pushback coming from the White House, with the very notable exception of the president himself,” she recalled. “I needed colleagues in the White House to assist from the podium in the press room and to provide support to my small press and legislative affairs teams.” At one point, she cried to her husband that she felt like she was “floating out here alone, without the necessary support.”

Rice faced attacks concerning her capabilities from Republican senators, including Lindsey Graham, the late John McCain and Kelly Ayotte. She eventually took herself out of the running. Rice’s 9-year-old daughter was undergoing tests for “frightening hallucinations” and Rice’s mother was “traumatized,” she wrote.

But Rice explained that she “would have felt guilty and selfish” if she had refused to go on the shows that fateful Sunday. “I am a team player, and I don’t like shunting off on others what I am capable of doing.”

In hindsight, however, she said: “By deferring to that instinct, by putting the cause and the team first, I did myself a disservice.”

California wildfire risk may cause power outages in 30 counties for more than 600,000 customers

The largest utility in California has warned it may cut off power for large parts of the northern part of the Golden State starting Wednesday and Thursday to prevent its equipment from sparking wildfires during expected warm, windy weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from 5 a.m. Wednesday until 5 p.m. Thursday for the North Bay Mountains and Valleys and East Bay hills and valleys in the San Francisco Bay Area due to “extreme fire danger.”

“Really extreme fire weather is what we’re looking at right now, what the weather models are showing,” Cal Fire Chief Mike Mohler told FOX40 on Monday, adding: “This is the largest, most concerning event that we’ve had in 2019.”

Cal Fire said the agency is preparing for a widespread period of conditions that could allow blazes to spread and is starting additional aircraft, ground crews, and personnel to respond if needed.

CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES: SEEKING SOLUTIONS TO A WICKED PROBLEM

A similar warning has been issued for the Santa Cruz Mountains from 5 p.m. Wednesday through noon on Thursday due to a combination of “gusty and potentially strong, damaging north or northeast winds” combined with low humidity.

“Strongest winds are expected in the hills, but gusty winds will develop locally in the valleys and near the coast as well,” the NWS San Francisco Bay Area office said in a forecast discussion. “These conditions will result in critical fire weather conditions from Wednesday into Thursday, especially across the  North Bay, East Bay, and Santa Cruz Mountains.”

Forecasters said the windy stretch of weather may be the strongest offshore wind event in the area since the October 2017 North Bay Fires.

In Northern California, Pacific Gas & Electric announced possible blackouts in 30 northern and central counties starting Wednesday that could affect more than 600,000 customers. The utility said that, based on the latest forecast models, the peak winds will occur from early Wednesday morning to Thursday midday and customers may be affected by a power shutoff even if they are not experiencing extreme weather conditions in their specific location.

“This is shaping up to be one of the most severe dry wind events we’ve seen in our territory in recent years and we want our customers to be prepared for an extended outage that may last several days,” Michael Lewis, senior vice president, PG&E Electric Operations, said in a statement. “We want our customers to be aware that, based on this number, it could take several days to fully restore power after the weather passes and safety inspections are completed.”

While PG&E has not confirmed any power shutoffs, the local police departments have announced that outages are likely.

The Lafayette Police Department said that 21,421 PG&E customers in the towns of Moraga, Orinda, and Lafayette in Contra Costa County could expect a shutoff beginning shortly after midnight on Wednesday and lasting through at least Thursday afternoon.

Officials said area residents should plan for family and pet medical needs, in addition to having enough fuel and water for each person and pet.

“Remember, gas stations, stores and ATMs in the immediate area will be closed,” police said, adding, “Know how to use the manual release on your garage door”

DRONES THE LATEST CRITICAL TOOL TO FIGHT WILDFIRES

On Monday evening around 4:30 p.m. Napa County officials said the utility was shutting off power to customers starting Wednesday morning and may extend five days or longer, KTVU reported.

Cal Fire said the state’s top five most destructive fires in terms of structure loss have taken place between September and November, with three blazes erupting in October in weather conditions that were a mix of gusty winds and low humidity. In addition to being careful to prevent blazes during high fire danger periods, officials told FOX40 on Monday that everyone should also have an evacuation plan ready.

“Wildland fires know no boundaries,” Mohler told FOX40 on Monday. “So, that traditional, ‘Oh, I don’t live next to a hillside with brush,’ no longer exits. If you look at the Tubbs Fire, it jumped the 101 Freeway, six lanes and went into what we would consider an urban neighborhood.”

Next month marks the one-year anniversary of the Camp Fire, the state’s most destructive wildfire ever, that killed 85 people and destroyed in excess of 18,000 structures. Power lines owned by PG&E were blamed in sparking that blaze, and the company filed for bankruptcy in January as it struggled with billions in potential liabilities.

Last month, PG&E shut off power to more than 48,000 customers in seven counties in wine country and the Sierra Nevada foothills as the humidity plunged, temperatures rose and winds kicked up. The outages lasted less than a day, and no major problems were reported.

In Sonoma County, PG&E cut power to 700 people in the Santa Rosa area, where the Tubbs Fire in October 2017 killed 22 people and destroyed more than 5,000 homes. In January, state investigators said that blaze was sparked by a private electrical system.

The risk of power outages this week isn’t just limited to Northern California. In the southern part of the state, Southern California Edison’s website showed Tuesday that more than 106,000 customers in parts of eight counties could face power cuts.

The largest numbers of potentially affected SoCal Edison customers are in Los Angeles County and to the east in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Also under consideration are areas to the west in Ventura County and to the north in Kern, Tulare, Inyo, and Mono counties.

Fox News’ Louis Casiano, Samuel Chamberlain, and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
