Strange ‘unicorn’ sheep saved from death by two cases of beer

When a South Australian man laid eyes on Joey the “unicorn” sheep he knew he couldn’t let such a rare animal end up on someone’s dinner plate.

Michael Foster is a stock agent but in all his years being around sheep he had never seen anything like Joey, he told Seven.

The unusual sheep has a horn growing from the middle of his head, making him look like a unicorn.

Joey’s mythical appearance comes from one of his horns not fully developing, making one a lot more prominent than the other.

“I thought it might have been a joke to start with, but I thought, ‘yeah it looks like a unicorn’,” he told the news station.

“To the best of our knowledge, it is the only one in Australia.”

When Mr. Foster found Joey he was destined for the barbecue but he knew this sheep was special and had to be saved.

So, in true Aussie form, Mr. Foster offered up two cartons of beer and got to take Joey home.

The unicorn sheep now lives as a beloved pet on Mr. Foster’s property in Burra.

Since being saved, Joey has become quite popular around town, with people often making comments about his unique look.

For the moment Joey is enjoying a quiet life running around with the rest of the sheep, but Mr. Foster told Seven he expects Joey will be a big star soon enough.

“We’ll break him in, take him to shows and pageants, and who knows where we can go, maybe Hollywood,” he said.

“I’m sure the kids will get a big kick out of patting a real-life unicorn, we might even do unicorn rides.”

Danish police have banned a second demonstration by an anti-Muslim provocateur in a neighborhood in Copenhagen with a large population of immigrants to avoid unrest.

Police said Tuesday they are investigating an object resembling a hand grenade found in the square where Rasmus Paludan was to stage his demonstration.

Police on Monday canceled a similar demonstration in suburban Copenhagen by Paludan, but counter-demonstrators then set garbage containers on fire and police had to use tear gas to disperse them.

Unrest started Sunday after Paludan, a lawyer who has held dozens of anti-Muslim demonstrations across Denmark under heavy police protection in recent months, threw the Quran in the air several times on a square in the Copenhagen neighborhood of Noerrebro before a raging crowd.

‘Targeted’ shootings that left 4 dead in Canada may have stemmed from reported neighbor dispute

Four people were shot dead in 3 separate locations across a city in western Canada in a series of “targeted” attacks on Monday that may have all been sparked by a neighborhood dispute, according to a wife of one of the victims.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Supt. Ted De Jager said at a news conference the killing spree began around 10:30 a.m. outside a home in downtown Penticton, British Columbia.

As authorities were responding to the initial shooting, a second call of another incident came in from the south end of the city. When authorities went to the home involved in the second shooting, they discovered the bodies of 3 people in two locations.

By 11:30 a.m., a 60-year-old man turned himself in at the front desk of an RCMP station in the city, CBC News reported.

“We’re still trying to find the motive for this whole incident, so that’s part of the ongoing investigation,” De Jager said. “Indications right now are that all four were targeted.”

The four victims — two men and two women — were all killed within a 3-mile radius.

Renate Winter, the wife of the first victim – 71-year-old Rudi Winter – told the Vancouver Sun she believed the shootings were likely linked to a neighborhood dispute.

Winter said that she and her husband lived next to the estranged wife of the alleged gunman and had a contentious relationship.

“We cut a tree down in our yard and she had a fit, so anytime we did anything she had a fit, so we don’t talk to her,” she told the Vancouver Sun. “She called the cops because my husband was putting rocks in between our properties, and maybe his big toe went on her property.”

De Jager, who called the shootings a “deeply troubling incident,” offered no additional details on how the victims knew each other or a possible motive. Charges are still pending against the man who turned himself in.

Spanish police says that a 57-story office tower in Madrid’s business district has been evacuated due to an unspecified security threat.

Staff at the Torrespacio skyscraper received a phone call with the threat, a spokeswoman with the National Police said, prompting the tower’s own security personnel to evacuate the building.

The spokeswoman, who wasn’t authorized to be identified by name in media reports, said she couldn’t provide specifics about the nature of the threat.

She said the tower had been evacuated by the time police arrived at the scene.

At 235 meters (770 feet), Torrespacio is one of four skyscrapers dotting the northern part of the Spanish capital’s skyline.

STXfilms has set its strip-club drama “Hustlers,” starring Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu and Cardi B, for a Sept. 13 release in North America.

Lopez announced the date on her Instagram account on Monday.

Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Julia Stiles and Mercedes Ruehl are also in the cast. The film is being directed by Lorene Scafaria.

The movie, originally set up at Annapurna as “The Hustlers at Scores,” is inspired by a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler. It’s set in New York City in the wake of the financial crisis and follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

STXfilms is producing alongside Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina — who previously collaborated with the studio on the 2018 romantic-comedy “Second Act” — as well as Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Kate Vorhoff and Catherine Hagedorn are overseeing the film’s production for the studio. STXinternational is handling international distribution, and distributing directly in the U.K. and Ireland.

The release date is a week after Warner Bros. launches “It: Chapter Two.” “Hustlers” is the third title dated for Sept. 13, joining Warner’s drama “The Goldfinch” and Fox’s animated “Spies in Disguise.”

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip extended their condolences to French President Emmanuel Macron following the tragic fire that ripped through the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

On Monday, a fire broke out at the world-renowned French landmark that saw one of its iconic spires collapse in flames and damaged roughly two-thirds of the structure’s roof. No deaths have been reported. As French citizens gathered to watch and pray for the cathedral’s safety, the Queen released a statement extending her condolences to Macron.

A judge will allow as evidence a video of a former college student struggling against his restraints at a Florida hospital on the night he’s accused of killing two people.

Austin Harrouff’s attorneys say the video shows the “mental status” of the 22-year-old hours after he’s accused of killing 59-year-old John Stevens III and 53-year-old Michelle Mishcon. Police say the Florida State University student was found biting and chewing on Stevens’ face in the couple’s driveway.

Harrouff is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

TC Palm reports Monday’s hearing centered on 1:14 seconds of video described in a defense motion as Harrouff in his hospital bed “fighting against his restraints.”

Forensic psychologist Dr. Phillip Resnick has said Harrouff believed he was “half-dog, half man” when he attacked the couple.

Nations expressed solidarity with France after the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral and offered their support for the recovery.

Monday’s fire collapsed the spire and burned through the roof of the 12th-century building, sparking an outpouring of grief and reminiscing of visits to the Parisian landmark. President Donald Trump called the cathedral “one of the great treasures of the world.”

Pope Francis, Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen all expressed their sadness.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri expressed sadness over the fire he described as a “heritage and humanitarian disaster.” Hariri added in a tweet late Monday that Lebanon expresses strong solidarity with the “friendly French people.”

The Obamas were among people sharing memories of past visits to the cathedral. Former President Barack Obama posted an old photo of himself, his wife Michelle and their two daughters lighting candles there and expressed his grief. Michelle Obama was in Paris on Monday on a book tour. “The majesty of Notre Dame – the history, artistry, and spirituality – took our breath away, lifting us to a higher understanding of who we are and who we can be,” she tweeted.

The French president has said he would seek help from the “greatest talents” in the world to rebuild Notre Dame, and many governments said they were considering contributions to what would be a significant architectural undertaking.

Austrian President Van der Bellen raised the French flag over his office in Vienna in a sign of solidarity with France. Van der Bellen wrote on Twitter that Notre Dame is “an important symbol of our common European culture” and posted a picture of the French flag and the European Union flag flying in Vienna.

Japan’s government said it would consider sending support. “Its damage is a loss to the world and our hearts ache,” said Yoshihide Suga, the chief Cabinet secretary.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in called for the world to come together to rebuild the Paris landmark. “Our love for humanity will be illustrated in a more mature way in the process of reconstruction,” he said.

Russian President Putin said in a message published on the Kremlin’s website that the tragedy “struck a chord in the hearts of Russians.” He called Notre Dame a “priceless treasure of Christian and world culture” and said Russia is ready to send the “best specialists” to help rebuild it.

The Polish prime minister recalled how his nation’s capital, Warsaw, was rebuilt after being destroyed by the Germans in World War II. Mateusz Morawiecki said on Twitter that “Poland knows what it means to have a cultural heritage lost in fire. We rebuilt Warsaw from the ruins ourselves. We will rebuild the Cathedral of Notre-Dame together as Europeans.”

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the New York archbishop, said New Yorkers were united in sorrow with Parisians, who can “count on our love, prayers, support and solidarity. This Holy Week teaches us that, like Jesus, death brings life. Today’s dying, we trust, will bring rising,” Dolan said outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan.

Warriors squander 31-point lead, Clippers tie series at 1-1

Westlake Legal Group warriors-squander-31-point-lead-clippers-tie-series-at-1-1 Warriors squander 31-point lead, Clippers tie series at 1-1 fox-news/sports/nba/los-angeles-clippers fox-news/sports/nba/golden-state-warriors fox-news/sports/nba-playoffs fox-news/sports/nba fnc/sports fnc Associated Press article 27356a80-63e4-5ba3-84ec-ac9dc2f3e8e1

Lou Williams led the Los Angeles Clippers to the largest postseason comeback in NBA history.

Landry Shamet hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 16.5 seconds left, Stephen Curry couldn’t answer on the other end, and the Clippers somehow rallied from 31 points down on the road to stun the Golden State Warriors 135-131 on Monday night and even their first-round playoff series at one game apiece.

The comeback topped a 29-point rally by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1989 Western Conference semifinals over Seattle. The Clippers confirmed it’s the best comeback ever.

“That’s a record we didn’t necessarily want to have. We’ll take it,” Williams said. “You’re competitive and you get lost in the game. Once you cut the lead to 12, you cut the lead to 10, then you realize you’ve got a game going. I’m one of those guys who can get hot.”

Curry scored 29 points and put the Warriors up 131-128 with 58 seconds left before Shamet’s dagger on a night the two-time defending NBA champions lost DeMarcus Cousins to a leg injury in the first quarter.

“We changed a couple things offensively and defensively in the third on the fly. It worked out for us. But I thought it was our spirit more than anything,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. “Just every single guy. I loved the end of the game.”

Williams tied the game on a jumper with 1:10 to play then Curry immediately answered. Williams scored again at 46 seconds and finished with 36 points and made 8 of 10 free throws in as the teams combined for 64 fouls and 76 free throws attempted.

“When I say we stopped playing, we stopped playing, like defense, offense, execution-wise we were not as engaged as we needed to be,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “We got exactly what we deserved. The Clippers were great. They executed, they were hungry, they stayed connected. They were together.”

Cousins injured his left quadriceps muscle in the first quarter and was done for the game, but Golden State’s depth shined and the Warriors built a 23-point halftime lead they pushed to a 31-point advantage before failing to hold off Los Angeles late.

Williams’ jumper and three-point play with 5:34 left pulled the Clippers within 120-117 then he rebounded his own miss and scored the putback at the 5:05 mark and cut it to 121-119.

“The wheels fell off,” Curry said.

Cousins was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam after the injury in just his second career playoff game following a nine-year wait. The big man returned in January from a nearly year-long absence following surgery for a torn left Achilles tendon.

He won’t play in Game 3 on Thursday at Staples Center and Cousins’ entire postseason is in serious doubt.

Kerr said Cousins will be out “a while.”

“There’s a pretty significant quad injury,” Kerr said.

Cousins hobbled to the locker room at the 8:09 mark of the first quarter. At the 8 1/2-minute mark Cousins stole the ball from Patrick Beverley in the back court and tried to retrieve the loose ball when went down in front of the Golden State bench and grabbed at his left quad.

LeBron James tweeted prayers for Cousins, who fouled out of Saturday’s 121-104 Game 1 win with nine points, nine rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes.

Kevon Looney picked up the bulk of the extra minutes in Cousins’ absence and scored a career-high 19 points making all six of his shots but the Warriors had their seven-game postseason winning streak snapped that dated to last year’s run to a repeat championship. Durant had 21 points, five rebounds and five assists, Klay Thompson scored 17 points and Draymond Green 14 with nine assists.

Curry followed up a 38-point performance in Game 1 that gave him the most 3s in postseason history with another nice showing but Golden State hurt itself with too many miscues.

The Warriors committed 21 turnovers in Game 1, then 22 more Monday — nine by Durant.

“We let our guard down. We weren’t the aggressors anymore. We didn’t deserve to win that game,” Thompson said.

Los Angeles wanted to do a better job stopping the late bursts each quarter the Warriors had in Game 1, and the Clippers were somehow able to claw their way back.

Both coaches challenged their teams to be more poised in Game 2 following the ejections of Beverley and Durant in the opener. Beverley again pushed the limits but the sides avoided a testy encore, and he fouled out with 4:33 to go to roaring cheers from the sellout crowd. Kevin Durant fouled out at 1:21 with a third straight offensive foul.

DURANT’S APOLOGY

At morning shootaround, Durant apologized for being tossed from Game 1.

The two-time reigning finals MVP has two technicals, and if he reaches seven during the postseason it brings an automatic one-game suspension.

“I don’t want to disappoint my coaches and my fan base and owners who expect me to be out on the floor, so I apologize for being thrown out the game,” Durant said. “Just keep my mouth shut, just play the game. Simple.”

DOC APPRECIATES GOOD DEED

Doc Rivers dropped $2,000 cash on the street in San Francisco earlier in the day — and offered a pregame “shoutout” to the man with the integrity to return the money.

“Kept walking, didn’t know it. The guy tapped me on the back and said, ‘that’s your money,'” Rivers shared. “I don’t know a lot of places that that would happen, but it happened today, so whoever that was he could have had free tickets if you hadn’t ran away.”

TIP-INS

Clippers: Williams scored 17 points in the third to match Chris Paul’s postseason franchise record done May 5, 2014, against Oklahoma City. … The L.A. backups scored another 83 points after getting 65 in the opener. In fact, in Game 1, Harrell (26) and Williams (25) were the first teammates to come off the bench and score 25 or more points in a postseason game since bench stats began in 1970-71, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Warriors: With his 129th career playoff game, Durant passed Kerr for 73rd place on the NBA’s all-time list. … C Andrew Bogut (419) moved by Clifford Ray (411) for sixth place on the Warriors’ career postseason rebounds list.

Aretha Franklin received an honorary Pulitzer Prize on Monday, as judges praised the Queen of Soul “for her indelible contribution to American music and culture.” Competitive Pulitzers were awarded to books about two other giants of American history: Frederick Douglass and Alain Locke.

David W. Blight’s 900-page “Frederick Douglass” was named the best work of history, while the biography prize went to Jeffrey C. Stewart’s “The New Negro: The Life of Alain Locke.” Richard Powers’ innovative novel “The Overstory,” which shows us the world through the perspective of nature, won for fiction. The drama prize went to “Fairview,” by Jackie Sibblies Drury, and Eliza Griswold’s “Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America” won for general nonfiction. Ellen Reid’s opera “p r i s m,” which tackles sexual and emotional abuse, was given the music award, and Forrest Gander’s elegiac “Be With” the poetry prize.

Franklin, who died last summer, was the first woman singled out for an honorary Pulitzer, which has been given to Bob Dylan and John Coltrane among others. The lives of Franklin, Douglass and Locke spanned and helped define more than a century of political and social change: Douglass was the country’s leading abolitionist of the 19th century, Locke the so-called “Dean” of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s and Franklin a transcendent and inspiring voice of the civil rights and feminist movements of the 1960s and 1970s.

“I think one of the through-lines of those three lives is music,” says Stewart, whose Locke biography also won a National Book Award.

ARETHA FRANKLIN REMEMBERED ACROSS SPORTS WORLD

“Frederick Douglass was one of the first people to provide an intellectual portrait of the spirituals, to show they were not just religious music, but statements of humanity and longing for freedom among the slaves. For Locke, spirituals were his favorite musical forms because they had that religious-philosophical dimension of the black experience, culled into a unique aesthetic form. And then you think of Aretha Franklin, who came out of gospel and brought into it popular music. So you can see a real continuum.”

Drury’s “Fairview” brings the story of African-Americans into the present, skewering white people’s obsession with black stereotypes. It begins as a contemporary domestic comedy involving a well-off black family and ends with the invisible fourth wall destroyed and the audience pulled down a rabbit hole of race and identity. The Pulitzer board called it a “hard-hitting drama that examines race in a highly conceptual, layered structure, ultimately bringing audiences into the actors’ community to face deep-seated prejudices.”

Powers, 61, has long been praised by critics and fellow writers for his blend of science, literature and technology; Margaret Atwood has likened his gifts and ambitions to Herman Melville’s. The Pulitzer for fiction could well bring commercial success to the author, whose previous works include “The Echo Maker,” winner of the National Book Award.

“The Overstory,” shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, is a case of an author’s life changing a book and a book changing his life. The author was teaching at Stanford University when he began the novel, six years ago, with the idea of telling a story through non-human protagonists. For research, he visited the Smoky Mountains and was so overwhelmed he ended up moving to a home on the Tennessee side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

“I’ve been itinerant for much of my life, and this was the first time I really felt I belonged to one place,” he said. “From here on out, I can’t imagine writing anything that isn’t under the spell of this book.”
