A London-bound Virgin Atlantic flight taking off from New York City was forced to divert to Boston following reports of a fire in the passenger cabin.

Massachusetts State Police say Virgin Atlantic flight 138 made an emergency landing at Logan International Airport on Thursday night, after the crew reported a fire emanating from a passenger’s seat. Crew members extinguished the fire prior to landing, police said.

AIR PASSENGER DECLARES HE’S GOD, STORMS COCKPIT TO ‘END TERRORISM’

The department’s Ordinance Disposal Unit subsequently boarded the plane and inspected the seat.

“Preliminary investigation suggests it is a battery pack consistent in appearance with an external phone charger,” police wrote in a news release.

Cory Tanner, a passenger aboard the flight, claims the fire broke out in first-class, though the smoke could be smelled throughout the plane.

Tanner also said passengers were not evacuated prior to the emergency workers inspecting the plane.

All 271 passengers were eventually deplaned safely, police said. “One passenger refuses EMS for smoke-related complaint,” the Massachusetts State Police wrote.

Virgin Atlantic did not elaborate on the cause of the fire, but confirmed that the carrier is conducting an investigation.

“The VS138 from JFK to London Heathrow (4 July 2019) diverted to Boston due to reports of smoke in the cabin. Our crew responded immediately and the plane has landed safely in Boston,” Virgin Atlantic wrote in a statement.

The airline added that passengers were provided with overnight lodging and will be continuing to their destinations Friday.

“The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority and we are currently investigating to fully understand the circumstances.  All our customers were offered overnight accommodation and onward travel today (5th July 2019). We’d like to thank our customers for their patience during this time.”

King Tut bust that Egypt claims was ‘stolen’ sells for $6 million

A controversial 3,000-year-old stone sculpture of boy pharaoh King Tutankhamun has been sold for nearly $6 million at auction in the U.K., despite protests from the Egyptian government.

The brown quartzite head depicting King Tut sold for more than 4.7 million pounds ($5.94 million) in London Thursday evening.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry had demanded that the auction house Christie’s provide documents proving the statue’s ownership and said Egypt holds rights to the piece based on its current and previous laws.

But Christie’s defended the sale process. The auction house says it carried out “extensive due diligence” to verify the provenance of the statue and had “gone beyond what is required to assure legal title.”

In a statement released Thursday, Christie’s described the sculpture as “a rare, beautiful and important work.”

“We recognize that historic objects can raise complex discussions about the past; yet our role today is to work to continue to provide a transparent, legitimate marketplace upholding the highest standards for the transfer of objects,” the auction house added. “There is an honorable market for ancient art and we believe it is in the public interest that works come out into the open with the opportunity for them to be researched, as well as seen and enjoyed by global audiences.”

The pharaoh’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings, which was full of spectacular artifacts, was discovered by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922.

Mostafa Waziri, chief of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, recently told that Associated Press that he believes that the head belongs to King Tut, but it was not found in the tomb in the Valley of the Kings.

KING TUT MYSTERY SOLVED: NO ‘HIDDEN CHAMBER’ IN FAMOUS TOMB, EXPERTS SAY

“This head is not one of the 5,398 pieces that were found inside the tomb,” he said.

According to a 1983 law regulating the ownership of antiquities, any ancient artifacts found in the country are considered state property, “with the exception of antiquities whose ownership or possession was already established at the time this law came into effect.”

King Tutankhamun continues to fascinate historians. Last year, archaeologists harnessed sophisticated radar scanning technology to disprove the contentious theory that secret rooms are hidden inside King Tutankhamun’s burial chamber.

KING TUTANKHAMUN BOMBSHELL? MYSTERIOUS PHARAOH MAY HAVE BEEN A BOY SOLDIER

The possibility of previously undiscovered chambers in the boy king’s tomb had generated massive interest around the world.

Stunning research has also claimed that Tutankhamun may have been a boy soldier, challenging the theory that the King was a weak and sickly youth before his mysterious death at around 18 years of age.

In 2014, a BBC documentary used state-of-the-art technology to perform a ‘virtual autopsy’ on King Tutankhamun’s 3,000-year-old remains. By using 2,000 Computerized Tomography (CT) scans of the pharaoh’s mummified body, scientists created a full-size computer-generated image of Tutankhamun. The virtual autopsy indicated that the boy king suffered from a genetic bone-wasting disease and a club foot, making him unable to walk unaided.

KING TUT TOMB MYSTERY: EXPERTS EXPLAIN STRANGE SPOTS ON BURIAL CHAMBER’S WALLS

Another theory suggests that Tutankhamun died in a chariot crash.

In 2012, scientists confirmed that a dagger found among the treasures in King Tut’s tomb was made with iron from a meteorite.

In a separate project, experts recently explained the strange spots on the walls of King Tut’s burial chamber.

Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez downplay ‘tension’ rumors with July 4th family photo

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez put on a strong front with a family photo on July 4th.

The couple posed with their respective children in a cute Independence Day snap.

“Today, we all celebrate the amazing freedoms we have as Americans. From our family to yours, have a happy and safe #July4thholiday everyone!” the former baseball player wrote.

JENNIFER LOPEZ, ALEX RODRIGUEZ’S ‘TENSION’ MAY PREVENT THE COUPLE ‘FROM EVER MAKING IT DOWN THE AISLE’: SOURCE

He and Lopez were joined by the singer’s twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony and Rodriguez’s kids with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis.

JLo commented on the photo with multiple heart emojis.

The family photo comes days after a source close to the Lopez told Fox News that trouble may be brewing between the two that may prevent them from ever tying the knot.

“Friends have seen them argue frequently. There’s a lot of passion in their relationship, which helps and hurts the pair – especially when their personalities clash because you just know a blowup is about to ensue,” a source close to the power couple told Fox News on Tuesday.

“As much as their friends love seeing Alex and JLo together as royalty, there is great fear that the tension between them may prevent them from ever making it down the aisle,” added the source.

JENNIFER LOPEZ, ALEX RODRIGUEZ’S RELATIONSHIP TIMELINE, FROM SECRET ROMANCE TO ‘POWER COUPLE’

The tipping point came last week when Rodriguez made headlines after he shared just a little bit too much about his table interaction with billionaire makeup mogul Kylie Jenner at the famed 2019 Met Gala, which he attended with Lopez, 49.

“We had a great table,” Rodriguez, 43, told Sports Illustrated of the chance encounter with the reality TV star.

“The black guy from ‘The Wire’ — Idris Elba, yeah, and his new wife. Some famous singer next to me, I don’t know what her name is,” he jokingly added, seemingly referencing his superstar fiancée.

“Versace — Donatella. We had Kylie and Kendall. And we had an Asian gentleman from ‘Rich Asians,’ the lead. Kylie was talking about Instagram and her lipstick, and how rich she is,” Rodriguez concluded, which didn’t sit well with the Bronx-born songstress.

“J.Lo was incredibly upset at Alex because she expected him to know better,” added the source. “J.Lo basically told him that she doesn’t care what he says during his interviews as long as it doesn’t encroach on their family or her personal and professional relationships – and when Alex said what he said about Kylie, J.Lo felt he crossed the line.”

However, the former MLB baseball star seemed to backtrack after the 21-year-old Jenner, publicly refuted the 14-time All-Star, writing on Twitter, “Umm no i didn’t. We only spoke about Game of Thrones.”

Rodriguez issued a follow-up tweet in response to Jenner: “OMG that’s right @KylieJenner!! It was me talking about you and your makeup line and how much my girls love you. #GOT #respect #alllove.”

Though the showbiz couple dated for two years before the former New York Yankees slugger popped the question to Lopez with a massive rock in March, by the end of May, the “World of Dance” judge revealed to Entertainment Tonight she and Rodriguez have no timetable for when they would tie the knot — adding that they were simply “taking it slow.”

“There’s no rush. We really see this as something that’s gonna be forever, and we’re gonna just take our time and do it right. And do it not rushed,” the actress said at the time.

Reps for Rodriguez and Lopez did not respond to Fox News’ multiple requests for comment.

Shark tooth pulled from man’s foot 25 years after bite

A shark attack is hard to forget, but one Florida man got a reminder recently in the form of a painful blister on his foot that actually contained the tip of a tooth. Jeff Weakley, who was surfing off Flager Beach in 1994 when the shark struck, said he initially thought the blister came from running.

FLORIDA FISHERMAN CATCHES RECORD-BREAKING FLATHEAD: ‘AN AMAZING ANGLING ACCOMPLISHMENT’

But when he popped the blister open with a tweezer, the tooth popped out, he told SWNS. Weakley sent the tooth in to the Florida Program for Shark Research at the Florida Museum of Natural History, where the used DNA to determine that the tooth indeed belonged to a blacktip shark.

“I was very excited to determine the identity of the shark because I’d always been curious,” Weakley, now 46, said, according to the Florida Museum of Natural History. “I was also a little bit hesitant to send the tooth in because for a minute I thought they would come back and tell me I’d been bitten by a mackerel or a houndfish – something really humiliating.”

Remarkably, the team was able to recover enough DNA from the tooth to reveal the shark’s identity.

“I had put our odds of success at slim to none,” Gavin Naylor, the programs director, said in the museum’s blog.

But his team prevailed, and Weakley had his answer. He’s chosen to donate the tooth rather than turn it into a pendant and said his experience did not turn him off to water sports.

“I’ve been lucky to have not been bitten by a dog, but I would regard that interaction I had with that shark as being no different or more destructive than a dog bite,” he told the museum blog. “I certainly don’t have a hatred of sharks or any feeling of vindictiveness toward them. They’re part of our natural world.”

Biden knocks AOC wing of Democratic Party, warns voters are not ‘way left’

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6054881864001_6054883706001-vs Biden knocks AOC wing of Democratic Party, warns voters are not ‘way left’ fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/person/joe-biden fox news fnc/politics fnc b1bab9d0-e138-5ddc-880e-83db25917867 article Adam Shaw

Former Vice President Joe Biden, in an interview aired Friday, took a swing at the far-left wing of the Democratic Party, warning that the majority of Democrats are not “way left” and that moderate Democrats are more electable in general elections.

In an interview with CNN in Iowa, the 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful pointed to the 2018 midterms, where a number of center-left Democrats won close races.

“That’s what this election is about. I’m happy to debate that issue and all those issues with my friends because guess what, look who won the races. Look who won last time out,” Biden said.

He mentioned Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who beat longtime Rep. Joe Crowley in a shock primary win, before cruising to a general election victory in a comfortably blue district. She is now one of the key figures in the party’s progressive wing.

Biden called her “bright” but cast doubts on how well such a left-wing figure would do in a national general election.

“By the way, I think Ocasio-Cortez is a brilliant, bright woman, but she won a primary. In the general election fights, who won?” he asked. “Mainstream Democrats who are very progressive on social issues and very strong on education and health care.”

“My north star is the middle class, when the middle class does well, everyone does well,” he added.

Biden is leading the 2020 field in polling but faces pressure over his more moderate positions from the most left-wing field ever of Democratic candidates. Candidates have embraced decriminalizing border crossings, slavery reparations, higher tax rates, free college and a Green New Deal.

In that shift leftward by the party, Biden has faced criticism for past positions he held in the Senate, and has himself shifted to the left somewhat, including saying that he supports health care for illegal immigrants. Biden, though, said Friday that he does not support decriminalizing illegal border crossings, after giving an unclear stance on the matter at last week’s debate.

The interview comes as Biden is fighting to keep his momentum on the heels of that debate. On the stage in Miami, Biden was challenged by Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., on his opposition to busing in the 1970s — a clash that has since hurt Biden and boosted Harris in the polls.

In the interview with CNN, Biden said he wasn’t prepared for her attacks.

“I was prepared for them to come after me, but I wasn’t prepared for the person coming at me the way she came at me,” Biden said, adding that she knows him and also knew his son Beau Biden — who passed away in 2015.

He also defended his performance in the debate, saying he didn’t want to get involved in the “scrum.”

“Do you think the American public looked at that debate — take me out of it — and thought ‘Boy I really like the way that’s being conducted, they’re really showing themselves to do really well’?” he asked. “Come on, man.”

A North Texas boy is being praised online after he stepped into the Arlington Fourth of July parade and tied the shoe of an Honor Guard member.

The boy – identified by police as “Josh” – ran out at the start of the parade after he noticed one of the Honor Guard members holding the American flag had his shoe untied.

Without any hesitation, Josh ran into the parade, kneeled down and made sure the loose laces wouldn’t trip up the guard during the march.

Jacki Weaver is taking back comments she made where she told fellow actress Anjelica Huston to “go f–k herself.”

Weaver made the biting remarks after Huston said in an interview that she wouldn’t want to be in a movie about something “humiliating like ‘band of cheerleaders gets back together for one last hurrah.'” seemingly in reference to Weaver’s film “Poms.”

Back in May, Weaver responded to Huston saying, “Well, she can go f - - k herself” and then added, “I would say she must be going through menopause, but she must have had that ages ago.”

But now Weaver is backtracking on her comments, telling the morning show “AM to DM” in a resurfaced interview that she admires Huston and doesn’t “think she’s a s—head.”

“Sometimes my filter drops, and my filter dropped that day. I just got a bit cross — ‘cross’ being the operative word. I got incensed. I saw red. I lose my temper once a year, and that was it,” Weaver shared.

She added, “I do admire Anjelica Huston. I don’t think she’s a s - - thead. I think she’s a wonderful actress and a really nice woman.”

Huston also apologized shortly after her alleged “Poms” diss saying, “I hope I didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings. And if I did, I hope they come back at me.”

Sudan military agrees to sharing power, protesters claim victory for their ‘revolution’

Leaders of Sudan’s pro-democracy movement welcomed on Friday the power-sharing agreement with the ruling military council as a victory for their “revolution,” raising hopes for an end to the three-month standoff with the generals and deadly violence.

“Today, our revolution has won and our victory shines,” read a statement posted early Friday on the Facebook page of the Sudanese Professionals’ Association, which has spearheaded the protests.

The emerging deal could break the political impasse that has gripped the country since the military ousted the longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir in April, amid an uprising against his rule.

MORE THAN 100 CIVILIANS KILLED BY VIOLENCE OUTBREAK IN SOUTH SUDAN

In the following months, protesters stayed in the streets demanding the generals handover power to a civilian leadership. Talks collapsed when security forces razed a protest camp outside the military headquarters in Khartoum on June 3 leaving more than a hundred killed, according to protesters.

The African Union and Ethiopia made intensive efforts to bring the generals and the protesters back to the negotiating table.

Negotiations resumed earlier this week, after tens of thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Sudan’s main cities over the weekend, in the biggest show of numbers since the razing of the protesters’ sit-in camp. At least 11 people were killed in clashes with security forces, according to protest organizers.

When news of the deal broke around dawn on Friday, hundreds of protesters returned to the streets dancing, singing and waving Sudanese flags, while passing drivers honked.

The military-controlled Al-Sudan television channel played national songs. It also reran excerpts of the press conference announcing the agreement, held jointly by protest and military leaders, which it subtitled “Congratulations to the Sudanese people.”

“We hope that the formation of transitional institutions marks the beginning of a new era,” said Omer El-Digair, a leader of the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change, a political coalition representing the protesters, at the joint press conference with the military and African mediators following the conclusion of the deal. “We hope it is an era where we can shut off the sound of pistols and destroy for good prisons of arbitrary detention.”

The two parties agreed to form a joint sovereign council to lead the country during a transitional period of three years and three months, said the SPA statement.

The council will include five civilians representing the protest movement and five military members. An eleventh seat will go to a civilian chosen by both parties.

A military member will preside over the council during the first 21 months, followed by a civilian member after, according to the statement.

This suggests a significant concession on the part of pro-democracy forces, which had insisted that the sovereign council have only a civilian president. However, the deal did secure another key demand, that protest leaders select the members of a technocratic Cabinet to be formed independently from the generals.

According to the SPA statement, the two parties also agreed to launch “a national independent investigation” into the killings of protesters since al-Bashir was ousted on April 11, according to the statement.

“I am not fully satisfied but it is a step forward to bring peace to our people,” Tarek Abdel Meguid, an FDFC leader, told The Associated Press.

He said that concessions were necessary to avoid further bloodshed.

“It is a civilian revolution and the people had already rejected the idea of sharing power” with the military council, he said. “But this is what the balance of power imposed.”

Abdel Meguid said that the FDFC was expected to meet this afternoon and discuss whether to call off plans for rallies to mark 40 days since the protester deaths, followed by launching a national strike on July 14.

Five best smartphone buys for summer 2019

Looking for a hot summer smartphone buy? Here are five of the best.

Google Pixel 3a: This is easily one of the best smartphone buys this summer. You get the great camera that Google is known for, an OLED display (typically not found on cheaper phones), and a headphone jack, which seems oddly like a premium feature in 2019. The 5.6-inch Pixel 3a starts at $399.

Motorola Moto G7: One of the great things about the Moto G7’s is that it doesn’t look like a budget phone. And has a small, less-conspicuous dewdrop-style notch in the display. It also comes with an adequate camera, pure Android software, and decent – but not outstanding – battery life. The best part is that the 6.2-inch Moto G7 typically starts at around only $270.

2018 YEAR IN REVIEW: SMARTPHONE NOTCHES WERE ALL THE RAGE

iPhone XR: This is Apple’s cheaper version of the of the iPhone XS but, don’t be fooled, this a quality phone. You get Face ID, fast performance, wireless charging, fantastic battery life, and a good LCD display. You’ll take a small hit on the rear camera, which is a single camera instead of the dual camera with optical zoom on the more expensive iPhone XS.  The 6.1-inch iPhone XR starts at $749.

iPhone XS: The more expensive iPhone XS is one of the best pricier phones. This is a more compact, lighter phone than the XR and boasts a better camera, a higher-quality OLED display, extra water resistance, and stainless-steel sides. The 5.8-inch iPhone XS starts at $999.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus: This is probably the best big-screen phone you can buy as of mid-summer 2019. In addition to a gorgeous design with a functional curved (sloping) edge on the display, it has pretty much everything you would want in a high-end phone, including very fast performance, long battery life, an exceptional OLED display, both fingerprint and face ID, and, yes, the coveted headphone jack. The 6.4-inch Galaxy S10 Plus typically starts at $999.
