Liberal ‘The View’ host says Pelosi told her at cocktail party a moderate would be better for Democrats in 2020

Westlake Legal Group pelosi_behar Liberal 'The View' host says Pelosi told her at cocktail party a moderate would be better for Democrats in 2020 Sam Dorman fox-news/person/nancy-pelosi fox-news/person/joy-behar fox-news/media fox-news/entertainment/the-view fox news fnc/entertainment fnc c5d3837c-93eb-52b0-ae40-4e3760054b29 article

“The View” host Joy Behar offered some insight on Tuesday into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s thinking ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

While Pelosi, D-Calif., has publicly praised the 2020 field, Behar said the top Democrat appeared to lean towards a moderate candidate when the two talked during a cocktail party.

After “The View” showed a picture of Pelosi with her arm around Behar, Behar said she inferred that the speaker wanted someone like former Vice President Joe Biden to take on President Trump.

“I infer that she believes that a moderate has a better chance of beating him than the more radical candidates… she pointed out that in the midterms, it’s the moderates who beat the Republicans in those Trump states,” Behar said.

BEHAR RIPS DEBATE FOCUS ON BIDEN OVER ‘BENEDICT DONALD’: ‘GO AFTER THE GUY WHO’S RUINING DEMOCRACY’

The two attended the cocktail party during a break the “View” cast had after its 22nd season ended.

Behar’s comments came amid an internal debate within the Democratic Party over how progressive the eventual 2020 nominee’s policies should be.

More from Media

Biden, the party’s leading candidate, faced progressive backlash over his positions on health care. During the second primary debate, held in Detroit in July, other candidates piled onto his plan to expand on the Affordable Care Act, rather than going with a program like “Medicare-for-all.”

Behar has repeatedly defended Democratic leaders like Pelosi and Biden, suggesting that others in the party were too critical at a time when they should be supportive.

At the beginning of August, Behar urged the candidates to focus on “Benedict Donald,” an apparent comparison between the president and Revolutionary War traitor Benedict Arnold.

“Instead of attacking Uncle Joe, go after the guy who’s ruining democracy,” she said after the second primary debate. “Last night, I wanted to see more of that.”

Sports Journalist: Political controversy will go ‘wild’ as 100th NFL season kicks off

The NFL is set to kick off its’ 100th season on Thursday, and at least one prominent sports journalist and NFL veteran agree that football fans should expect even more political controversy on the gridiron.

On Fox Nation’s “Deep Dive”, James Freeman spoke to Fox Sports radio host, Clay Travis and retired NFL player, Marvin Washington about the state of the game.

BEING OLDER IN THE NFL POSSIBLE, MIXING SKILL WITH SACRIFICES

Travis believes that politically-charged statements, like former quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem, will only increase as the electoral season accelerates.

“You know it’s going to be controversial next year in 2020… We got an election going on.  Who knows who will be running against each other.  It’s not as if sports is immune from what the rest of the nation is talking about, so I think next year… it will be wild,” said Travis.

Travis added that the controversy doesn’t come without a cost, and he harkened back to the days of NBA legend Michael Jordan, “There is a reason I think why Michael Jordan is still the most popular athlete in the country…he appealed to everyone with his excellence in sports and allowed that to be the hallmark of his brand.”

Freeman asked retired NFL star Marvin Washington if he believes that NFL fans will see more of the “Jordan model” or the “Kaepernick model.”

“I think you are going to see a combination of them both… I had two heroes in the 1970s.  I had Muhammad Ali and the guy who made it into the mainstream, OJ Simpson,” said Washington, “Now you have a more socially-conscious athlete… I’m fine with either way you want to go because it’s you as an individual — because it is freedom of speech and it’s freedom of choice.”

ANDREW LUCK TAKES OUT FULL-PAGE AD THANKING COLTS FANS AFTER RETIREMENT

Travis concluded that it is the nature of social media to be divisive and that may ultimately hurt athletes financially.

“Social media is about filling, typically, a niche… To me, the Michael Jordan’s of the world… trying to appeal to the entire universe of the audience — I feel like we have kind of lost that opportunity,” said Travis, concluding “I understand the idea of wanting to share your political views… but I feel like doing that while in uniform at work is probably not the best in terms of the business.”

Victoria Beckham criticized for using ‘ill-looking’ model to promote latest clothing line

Victoria Beckham is taking some criticism on social media after promoting her new clothing line with a model that her Instagram followers say looks “ill.”

The 45-year-old fashion designer shared a handful of images to promote her 2019 autumn-winter collection. Two of the photos the star used to showcase the new threads feature a model wearing a dress originally worn by Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. However, most of the users who commented on the post ignored the fashion and, instead, noted that the model used to show off the dress looked incredibly thin.

“#feedthemodel she’s gonna die if she skips another meal. Sad to see an icon such as you promoting these ill-looking models,” one user wrote.

“Scary to look at. Even more scary to think how ill she must be. Really not a good look I’m astonished this picture has got so many likes and loves!” another user commented.

“I can’t believe this women [sic] has a young daughter and she still thinks using only models like this is ok… she needs to use all body types in her campaigns!!” a third user said of Beckham.

“Pictures like this are what contribute to eating disorders, totally irresponsible and another example of profit over conscience,” someone else concluded.

Representatives for Beckham did not respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

This isn’t the first time Beckham has faced criticism for promoting thin models. She previously caught similar backlash for sharing a photo of a very thin-looking model for her 2018 eyewear campaign. In 2015 she vowed that her agents were in touch with the agents of all the models she uses in an effort to make sure that the women are healthy.

Storm threatens Mexico; triple threat seen as hurricane season nears peak

While attention has been focused on Hurricane Dorian as it ravages the Bahamas and menaces the Southeast coast of the U.S., another tropical system may be threatening Mexico this week as hurricane season nears its peak.

The National Hurricane Center said Tuesday morning that a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico has become a tropical depression, and is forecast to strengthen to a tropical storm by Wednesday.

The system currently has sustained winds of 35 mph and is located about 185 east of La Pesca, Mexico and moving west at 7 mph.

HURRICANE DORIAN DOWNGRADED TO CATEGORY 2 STORM, CONTINUES ITS ASSAULT ON THE BAHAMAS

A tropical storm warning has been issued in Mexico from La Pesca to Barra El Mezquital. If the system strengthens into a tropical storm it will have the name “Fernand” and be the sixth named storm of the season.

Satellite photos from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show the area of disturbed weather in the Gulf of Mexico as Dorian spins off Florida.

“Interests elsewhere along the northeastern coast of Mexico and the lower Texas coast should monitor the progress of this system,” the NHC said.

The development of this latest tropical system comes as Hurricane Dorian lurks off Florida, and the entire tropical Atlantic basin has become “quite active” in recent days.

“There are currently 3 disturbances being monitored for potential development, with another tropical wave expected to move off the African coast later this week,” the National Weather Service said on Twitter Monday.

2019 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON NOW FAVORS ‘ABOVE-NORMAL’ ACTIVITY, WITH 10-17 NAMED STORMS, NOAA SAYS

Colorado State University hurricane scientist Phil Klotzbach noted on Twitter the “whopping” four areas of potential development over the Atlantic over the next 5 days.

“The climatological peak of Atlantic hurricane season is around September 10,” Klotzbach said.

On the other side of Mexico, a major hurricane is well off-shore in the Pacific. The NHC said Hurricane Juliette is packing 125 mph winds as it moves northwest at 8mph about 455 southwest off the southern tip of Baja California. Hurricane Juliette, while well off the coast, is expected to send elevated surf with strong rip currents to San Diego County in California on Wednesday and Thursday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

A satellite photo from NOAA shows the scale of tropical activity in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans at the moment.

In the Gulf of Mexico, officials warn that tropical storm conditions will affect the northeast coast of Mexico during the day on Wednesday.

“Squalls with gusts to tropical-storm-force are likely north of the warning area along portions of the northeastern coast of Mexico and the lower Texas coast,” the NHC said.

The system is also expected to bring 6 to 12 inches of rain across northeast Mexico, and two to four inches of rain for south Texas and the lower Texas coast.

NOAA forecasters have called for 10-17 named storms in the Atlantic, of which five to nine could strengthen into hurricanes. Of those storms, there will be two to four major hurricanes, which are classified as Category 3, 4, and 5 with winds of 111 mph or higher.

The 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, and this year includes the names: Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dorian, Erin, Fernand, Gabrielle, Humberto, Imelda, Jerry, Karen, Lorenzo, Melissa, Nestor, Olga, Pablo, Rebekah, Sebastien, Tanya, Van and Wendy.

Singapore police arrest man at Changi Airport for buying boarding pass just to say bye to his wife

A man was arrested at Changi Airport in Singapore last week for buying a boarding pass — with no intention to board the plane.

The 27-year-old had purchased a boarding pass just so he could enter the transit area — a “protected place” — to say goodbye to his wife, the Singapore Police Force said.

NEWARK AIRPORT PASSENGERS PANIC, EVACUATE OVER ACTIVE SHOOTER SCARE: ‘CONFUSION AND CHAOS’

“Investigations revealed that the man had entered the transit area to send off his wife,” authorities wrote in a Facebook post. “He had no intention to depart Singapore.”

The man was arrested on Aug. 25 for “misusing his boarding pass.” In total, 33 people have been arrested this year for similar infractions, police said.

The transit area of the Changi Airport falls under the category of “protected places” — areas where “special measures are needed to control the movement and conduct of persons for public safety and security reasons.”

Those who enter Changi’s transit area “with no intention to proceed to their next destinations” can be prosecuted and fined up to $20,000 and imprisoned for up to two years, officials said.

The Changi Airport is one of the busiest — and most famous — airports in the world with a record 65.6 million passengers in 2018. According to Travel + Leisure, it has a butterfly garden, movie theater, swimming pool and even includes the world’s biggest indoor waterfall.

Girl, 4, reels in ‘monster’ 33-pound fish with mini ‘Frozen’ fishing pole

She didn’t “let it go.”

A four-year-old girl from Illinois is a bona fide angler after catching a 33-pound flathead catfish while fishing with a miniature, “Frozen”-themed fishing pole.

Little Josie was fishing with her cousins and parents, Steve and Ashley, in the Delavan area on Aug. 28 when she made the impressive “monster” catch, according to a ViralHog video.

510-POUND MONSTER SHARK REELED IN AFTER 3-HOUR FIGHT: ‘LITERALLY MAN VERSUS BEAST’

With some help from her father and a child-sized Disney “Frozen” Shakespeare pole rigged with a 50 lb. line, the fearless girl – who only weighs 30 lbs. herself – was able to pull in the beast.

“Hang on, hold it up like this,” Steve can be heard coaching his daughter in video footage viewed over 136,000 times on YouTube.

Josie, ready for the big moment in purple floaties and an oversized hair bow, shrieked with joy as they reeled in the fish during a windy day on the lake.

“Go, Josie, go!” someone cheered in the background.

With the scoop of a large net, the family pulled the catfish onto the dock, as Josie celebrated the big moment.

“I want to touch him!” the girl yelled, before getting disgusted, and then delighted, by the big fish she described as “slimy.” Sizing up her find, she even stretched herself out next to the creature for comparison, and appeared to be pleased to report that she was “taller” than it was.

Congratulated by her family, the youngster was totally in awe of her impressive catch.

“I can’t believe it,” Josie exclaimed.

“Now we can go catch sharks,” her dad joked in reply.

Biden claims ‘details are irrelevant’ after getting caught telling inaccurate war story

Westlake Legal Group Joe-Biden-Getty Biden claims ‘details are irrelevant’ after getting caught telling inaccurate war story Ronn Blitzer fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox news fnc/politics fnc article a8aa88f1-bc00-559d-a350-0df144230460

Former Vice President Joe Biden is downplaying the inaccuracies he has repeatedly told in a story about an American military service member during the war in Afghanistan, saying the “details are irrelevant” after being called out by a newspaper last week.

“That has nothing to do with judgment of whether or not you send troops to war, the judgment of whether you bring someone home, the judgment of whether you decide on a health care policy,” Biden said in comments aired Tuesday by the NPR Politics Podcast and Iowa Public Radio. “The details are irrelevant in terms of decision-making.”

JOE BIDEN TOLD MOVING MILITARY STORY AT CAMPAIGN STOP – BUT IT ‘NEVER HAPPENED,’ REPORT SAYS

While speaking to crowds, in the past few weeks Biden has told a story about a Navy captain in Afghanistan. According to Biden, that captain rappelled down a ravine under enemy fire to recover a fallen soldier’s body and later refused a Silver Star from Biden, telling him, “Do not pin it on me, Sir! Please, Sir. Do not do that! He died. He died!”

But according to a Washington Post piece last week, the story as told by Biden never happened. The Democratic presidential candidate, the paper determined, seemed to have combined elements of various stories into one.

JOE BIDEN CONFUSES BURLINGTON, IOWA, WITH BURLINGTON, VT., IN LATEST GAFFE

The Post interviewed U.S. troops, commanders and Biden campaign officials in determining what events may have inspired the story.

Biden did visit the Konar province – the setting of his story – when he was a senator in 2008. A recovery like the one he described did take place, but the man who pulled it off, Kyle J. White, was a young Army specialist, not a Navy Captain, and never received a Silver Star from Biden. He did accept a Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama in 2014.

There was also an incident, the Post reported, where Biden did bestow an honor upon a reluctant recipient who felt he did not deserve it. That was Army Staff Sgt. Chad Workman. Biden later suggested to a Washington Post opinion writer that it was Workman whom he was talking about when he told the story, asking, “I don’t know what the problem is. What is it that I said wrong?”

GAFFE-PRONE BIDEN SHOULDN’T BE CLOISTERED, OBAMA AIDE SAYS: ‘HE EITHER CAN CUT IT OR HE CAN’T’

This was the latest in a string of eyebrow-raising gaffes from Biden.

In August, he said that “poor kids” were just as talented as “white kids.” Days later, he incorrectly said he was vice president at the time of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting, which took place in February 2018, more than a year after he left office.

Also last month, he said that Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were assassinated in the 1970s instead of the 1960s.

Pennsylvania cops have filed kidnapping charges against a woman they say drove off with a toddler over the weekend, triggering an Amber Alert.

Nalani Johnson, who turns 2 this month, was reported kidnapped in Penn Hills on Saturday, police said.

The Amber Alert said Nalani was abducted by 25-year-old Sharena Nancy.

The child’s father, Paul Johnson, told cops Nancy, described as a jitney driver, took his daughter after she gave them a ride, according to reports. He said Nancy sped away with Nalani and Nalani’s car seat, leaving him and a friend behind.

Nancy was arrested later Saturday, police said.

“When Ms. Nancy was stopped by the Penn Hills Police on Saturday evening following the abduction of Nalani, the car seat was not located within the vehicle,” Allegheny County police said Monday.

Nalani remains missing and the FBI is assisting in the search.

The Pocono Record quoted a criminal complaint as saying that Nancy alleged during an interview with cops that Johnson sold his daughter for $10,000.

The complaint said Nancy told her interviewers that Johnson instructed her to drive Nalani to a woman who would take her.

Johnson on Monday denied the allegations and declined to comment further, the paper reported.

Nancy is being held on charges of kidnapping of a minor, custodial interference and concealment of the whereabouts of a child.

Hurricane Dorian spurs Florida authorities to warn against looting, 2 arrested for allegedly stealing sandbags

As Hurricane Dorian churns “dangerously close” to Florida’s east coast and hundreds of thousands of people in the Sunshine State face evacuation orders, authorities are warning they’re out in “full force” to deter potential criminal activity.

As of Tuesday morning, there already were three looting-related arrests in Florida, including one involving two men who allegedly were caught stealing sandbags from a construction site.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook that the two men–identified as Thaylon A, Lewis, 43, and Joseph Colombo Jr., 45–were charged with theft during a declared state of emergency. Colombo was also charged for an injunction violation for possessing a firearm.

“A Volusia Sheriff’s sergeant was driving southbound on Tomoka Farms Road in Daytona Beach just before 5 p.m. Monday when he noticed a red Chevrolet pickup with one man loading sandbags into it and another acting as a lookout,” the sheriff’s office stated. “The site was at the Tomoka Farms Road/Interstate 4 overpass.”

More than 100,000 free sandbags have been distributed in Volusia County in recent days in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian, not including those distributed by many cities in Volusia County, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Sheriff Mike Chitwood has issued several warnings that enhanced penalties are in effect during the state of emergency declared in advance of the storm, and will be pursued against anyone caught committing crimes during this period,” the sheriff’s office said.

In the seaside town of Daytona Beach Shores, officials said a man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly tried to break into more than a dozen hotel rooms and condos ahead of Dorian’s arrival.

The Daytona Beach Shores police department said on Facebook that 32-year-old Jeremy Crouter was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, burglary and possession of methamphetamine.

Crouter was caught by a security officer at the Hawaiian Inn jiggling the handles of the rooms, trying to get inside, FOX35 reported.

The 32-year-old then resisted arrest during the incident that was captured on body camera video. He is now at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety had a stern warning to anyone else who may partake in any criminal activity during the state of emergency.

“Daytona Beach Shores officers are out in FULL FORCE. We are in a State of Emergency and under mandatory evacuation. ! DO NOT COME HERE TO LOOT,” the department said. “WE ARE NOT PLAYING WITH YOU!”

In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Major Eric Flowers with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said that officers were out patrolling “all night long” on evacuated barrier islands.

“If someone thinks they are going to commit a crime during this state of emergency, they are wrong,” Flowers said. “We will take them to jail and they will spend the entire storm in our jail.”

Flowers added that the judicial system is currently enforcing no bond for those types of crimes during the state of emergency.

“We’re definitely going to continue to enforce the law here,” he added.
