Geraldo: Tlaib’s canceled trip should cause outrage, Palestinian territory being ‘occupied’

Westlake Legal Group Rashida-Tlaib Geraldo: Tlaib's canceled trip should cause outrage, Palestinian territory being 'occupied' fox-news/world/world-regions/israel fox-news/shows/the-story fox-news/politics/house-of-representatives fox-news/person/rashida-tlaib fox-news/person/ilhan-omar fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/person/benjamin-netanyahu fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc ee265a34-a3cc-5f07-a222-a6ccd753efdb Charles Creitz article

President Trump rightfully supports the state of Israel, but the Netanyahu government should not have barred Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., from visiting, according to Geraldo Rivera.

People living in Palestinian territory are being denied rights and Tlaib was similarly denied the ability to visit her grandmother, Rivera claimed Monday on “The Story.”

“As a Jewish-American, and as a fervent Zionist who believes deeply in the right of Israel to exist, I am comforted by President Trump’s support of Israel,” he said.

“I also think it is absolutely outrageous that two sitting members of the Congress of the United States of America… were denied entry into the country. I’m shocked that the ambassador did not mention 52 years of Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.”

TLAIB GETS EMOTIONAL AS OMAR CALLS FOR CONGRESS TO ACT OVER ISRAEL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

Prior to Rivera’s remarks, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon discussed the situation with host Martha MacCallum.

In his interview, Rivera explained why he found it wrong for Israel to deny Tlaib entry at first. Officials later said they would allow Tlaib to visit, but the Michigan Democrat declined.

“These are people being denied their human rights. They can’t freely travel,” he said.

“The fact that the congresswoman from Detroit could not go and visit her grandmother… if it was any other country that took this action, we would all be outraged.”

MacCallum then allowed Danon to respond to Rivera’s claims.

“[T]alk about the facts,” he said.

“She was allowed to come to visit her grandmother, then she decided not to accept that invitation because she wanted to come and create a provocation,” Danon said. “Let’s speak to the facts… Maybe you should leave your provocational politics here in the U.S. and not bring it to our territory.”

Danon added Israel would like to solve the historic territory issue but said Palestinian officials are not an example of a “viable partner” for negotiations.

In closing, Rivera criticized former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Andrew McCarthy – who was also on set – for doubting the veracity of characterizing the Palestinian territory as an “occupied” territory.

“I’ve been to Ramallah and Bethlehem. I have friends in the West Bank. I see that they cannot travel freely… This is an occupied country,” he said, also reiterating he is proud to support Israel’s right to exist as well.

Sen. Tim Scott: Democratic presidential candidates trying to dupe African-American voters

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., defended President Trump and his policies as Democrats take to his home state to court the black vote.

On “The Story,” he said that Trump’s record on employment and criminal justice reform has made liberals unsure how to beat him.

“It’s an opportunity to dupe… You talk about empty promises because there is nothing left.”

South Carolina is the first primary state with a sizable black population.

TRUMP THROWS ‘SQUAD’ FEUD BACK AT PELOSI AFTER ‘RACIST’ ACCUSATION: ‘DEMOCRATS ALWAYS PLAY THE RACE CARD’

Black voters have driven the outcome of the past two competitive Democratic nominating fights. But Barack Obama in 2008 and Hillary Clinton in 2016 built their early delegate leads largely on the strength of older black voters in Southern states with significant African-American populations.

The party’s passionate left wing now is pressing for an all-in battle, arguing that candidates’ plans to combat racism are just as important as their proposals to provide health insurance to every American. But others question whether race should be the centerpiece of the campaign to replace Trump. Several presidential candidates, meanwhile, argue it is possible to criticize Trump for his racist tactics and also advance proposals on health care, education, the minimum wage and more.

Scott said it’s unfair to separate Americans by race as to what gets out the vote, noting that all Americans want the same thing.

“They want to see the next generation do better than the last generation.”

Trump tweets promise not to build ‘Trump’ properties in Greenland

Westlake Legal Group 69d69871-AP19228341444951 Trump tweets promise not to build 'Trump' properties in Greenland Louis Casiano fox-news/world/world-regions/europe fox-news/politics/executive/white-house fox-news/person/donald-trump fox news fnc/politics fnc f6553315-0c2c-51c7-b590-c55c1535ac82 article

In a surprising tweet Monday, President Trump promised not to build his signature large-scale developments in Greenland, one day after he confirmed he was looking into the possibility of purchasing the sparsely populated Arctic island.

The tweet featured an edited photo showing a tall gold-colored building emblazoned with “Trump.” The president captioned it, “I promise not to do this to Greenland!”

On Sunday, Trump addressed rumors that his administration was looking to buy Greenland, which is a semi-autonomous territory under Danish control.

TRUMP: U.S. CONSIDERING POSSIBLY BUYING GREENLAND, ‘ESSENTIALLY IT’S A LARGE REAL ESTATE DEAL’

“Essentially it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done. It’s hurting Denmark very badly because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it,” he told reporters in New Jersey. “So, they carry it at great loss, and strategically for the United States, it would be nice. And, we’re a big ally of Denmark and we help Denmark, and we protect Denmark.”

Denmark’s prime minister called American interest in Greenland “absurd” and said the island is not for sale.

“Greenland is not Danish. Greenland is Greenlandic,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said. “I persistently hope that this is not something that is seriously meant,” Frederiksen told reporters Sunday during a trip to meet Kim Kielsen, the premier of Greenland.”

Trump is scheduled to visit Demark on Sept. 2 as part of a larger European trip.

The U.S. proposed buying Greenland in 1946 for $100 million after toying with the idea of swapping land in Alaska for strategic parts of the island.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., blasted “The Godfather” for repeating “negative stereotypes” about Italians following a viral confrontation involving his brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, taking offense at being called “Fredo” by a heckler.

During a Monday interview on WAMC, the New York governor was briefly asked about a video where Chris Cuomo had a fiery exchange with a heckler who taunted the cable news anchor by referring to him as the “weak brother” from the Oscar-winning film, which he called a “slur” against Italians.

Although Gov. Cuomo didn’t directly address the “Fredo” video, he expressed a similar sentiment to his brother, telling WAMC’s Alan Chartock that the film repeats “discrimination.”

CNN’S CHRIS CUOMO SAYS HE’S ‘OK’ WITH MEDIA MOVING ON FROM VIRGINIA GOV. RALPH NORTHAM

“My father wouldn’t watch the movie because it was anti-Italian. The stereotype is anti-Italian,” Cuomo said.

“I can’t tell you how many times people have come up to me and said, ‘In ‘The Godfather,’ who are you, which one are you, which character are you?’ I had a battle with ‘The Sopranos,’ which was the same stereotype over and over and over, the Italian thug, the Italian Mafia… When you repeat the negative stereotypes, you are repeating the discrimination.”

The top New York Democrat also mentioned that he had only seen “parts” of “The Godfather.”

Last week, the “Cuomo Prime Time” host was seen in an unverified video responding to a personal attack, equating the term “Fredo” to the N-word.

I like this study because I am this study.

Many times I would tweet something rude after that third glass of wine. And the next day, regret the tweet, not the wine. I learned over time that I had to cut back on one or the other.

So out went the wine, in came the vodka.

But we’re missing the good news.

The study isn’t about the destruction caused behind the wheel of a car — it’s now about the embarrassment caused in front of your smartphone screen.

So we find ourselves no longer steering into lamp posts; instead we steer humiliating posts about our stupid thoughts, activities and selves into a ravenous public, who happily seek another opportunity to dance on our shame.

Writer P.J. O’Rourke once called booze “liquid idiot,” but our tweets are “digital dumb.” Which is better? Nobody ever drove a tweet into oncoming traffic and wiped out a family of five.

So consider it progress that more people are dying from embarrassment than internal injuries.

Jesse Watters: Elizabeth Warren’s Native American apology rings hollow because she ‘stole their identity’

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren’s latest apology for previously claiming Native American heritage should fall on deaf ears, according to Jesse Watters.

Watters criticized Warren Monday on “The Five,” going as far as to suggest she would be an easy opponent for President Trump in 2020.

“She’s got terrible political instincts and she’s a phony,” he said, adding the Massachusetts Democrat appeared to have “scrubbed” from her campaign website the video in which she reveals her DNA results.

“What she did to Native Americans was, some people say, a lot worse than what Trump’s done to minorities. Think about what she did — she stole their identity.”

WARREN APOLOGIZES TO NATIVE AMERICANS FOR ANCESTRY CLAIMS: ‘I HAVE MADE MISTAKES’

On Monday, Warren told a Native American forum in Sioux City, Iowa, she was sorry for any harm she caused the community.

More from media

“Like anyone who has been honest with themselves, I know I have made mistakes,” she said.

Elaborating on his claim, Watters said he believed Warren adopted Native American ethnicity to help herself to the detriment of others.

“She used that fake identity to suppress minorities’ access to higher education jobs and then she profited from the fake identity,” he said, nodding to the fact Warren was employed at Harvard.

“When she got busted on it when President Trump mocked her, she said, ‘Oh, that’s an ethnic slur: Pocahontas’ — that’s about as an ethnic slur as ‘Fredo,’ it doesn’t make any sense,” Watters said.

Last week, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, the brother of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, became incensed by a man who referred to him as “Fredo,” a character from “The Godfather.” The newsman claimed in an expletive-laden response he saw the remark as an ethnic slur against Italian-Americans.

On “The Five,” Watters also explained why Warren would have trouble facing off with Trump.

He said the president’s “Pocahontas” nickname stuck and is complemented by what he called her “irritating demeanor.”

“It’s another landslide victory for the president if she gets the nomination.”

Marianne Williamson announces plan to create ‘Department of Peace’

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson on Monday unveiled details of her plan to create a peace-building agency to focus on ending violence following decades of U.S. military conflict and an uptick in mass shootings.

In her announcement, the spiritual author called for a “Department of Peace” to spur peace initiatives domestically and abroad.

“I believe our country’s way of dealing with security issues is increasingly obsolete,” Williamson said in a statement. “We have the finest military force in the world, however, we can no longer rely on force to rid ourselves of international enemies.”

WILLIAMSON VOWS TO RESCIND MILITARY MEDALS, REMOVE ANDREW JACKSON’S OVAL OFFICE PORTRAIT IN ‘ATONEMENT’ FOR NATIVE AMERICAN TREATMENT

“The planet has become too small for that, and in so doing, we overburden our military by asking them to compensate for the other work that we choose not to do, and we are less effective, and less secure, because of our choices,” she added.

The main duties of the proposed agency would be promoting justice and democratic principles, she said, expanding human rights, working to avert armed conflict, ending gun violence, addressing white supremacy and promoting conflict mediation and resolution.

MARIANNE WILLIAMSON SAYS ‘POWERFUL FORCES’ ON THE LEFT OUT TO END PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Specifically, the department would work with local, state governments to decrease gun violence, rehabilitate prisoners, examine how food supply affects behavior and trying to end the school-to-prison pipeline. Abroad, Williamson wants to help governments end conflicts without providing U.S. military assistance and providing and coordinating humanitarian relief.

The plan calls for the cabinet’s secretary to serve on the National Security Council and would have power to coordinate with other agencies — including the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Education, Justice, and State, and the new U.S. Department of Children and Youth.

The department also would create a peace academy that would offer a four-year concentration in peace education. The academy would be modeled after the military service academies and graduates would be required to serve five years in public service programs focused on domestic and international conflict resolution.

Funding for the agency would come from various peace-building and violence-reduction efforts within the federal government.

“As the Department [of Peace] becomes effective in its work, a true ‘peace dividend,’ reflecting a declining domestic and international need for the instruments of violence, will more than fund the costs of the Department’s activities,” Williamson said.

Last month, Williamson criticized the U.S. budget for peace-building agencies, which she said gets $1 billion of the $40 billion given to the State Department. Throughout her campaign, she has vowed to defeat President Trump with a politics of “love.”

Facebook, Twitter accuse China of disinformation campaign against Hong Kong protesters

Twitter and Facebook suspended almost 1,000 accounts that were tied to a Chinese disinformation campaign that targeted pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

On Monday, Twitter announced that it had suspended 936 accounts that were related to the disinformation efforts. In a blog post, the company said the “coordinated state-backed campaign” was intended to “sow political discord in Hong Kong, including undermining the legitimacy and political positions of the protest movement on the ground.”

The Jack Dorsey-led company said it had conducted “intensive investigations” into the suspicious accounts, which were taken down due to violations of Twitter’s policy against platform manipulation.

Facebook conducted its own investigation, based on a tip from Twitter, and removed seven pages, three groups and five accounts involved in “coordinated inauthentic behavior” that originated in China and also targeted Hong Kong.

“They frequently posted about local political news and issues including topics like the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. Although the people behind this activity attempted to conceal their identities, our investigation found links to individuals associated with the Chinese government,” Facebook said in a blog post.

According to the social network, about 15,500 accounts followed one or more of the pages and about 2,200 accounts had joined at least one of the groups.

“We are making progress rooting out this abuse, but as we’ve said before, it’s an ongoing challenge. We’re committed to continually improving to stay ahead,” Facebook said. “That means building better technology, hiring more people and working more closely with law enforcement, security experts and other companies.”

Hundreds of thousands of pro-democracy protesters have taken to the streets in Hong Kong to protest against police brutality and a now-suspended extradition bill. The demonstrators, who have been mostly peaceful, have also clashed with local police and brought Hong Kong’s main airport to a standstill recently.

Both Twitter and Facebook have faced increasing scrutiny over their response to disinformation campaigns in the wake of Russia’s manipulation of social media during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.
