Last month, not long after the news broke that failed Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore (AL) said he’d be taking another shot at the seat in 2020, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley weighed in on Twitter with her thoughts on the announcement:

As recent polling in Alabama indicates, Moore is pulling in a mere 13% of Republican voters. So he’s not exactly a top contender:

But inconvenient facts like that don’t matter to MSNBC‘s Chris Hayes, who (belatedly) took a swipe at Haley on Monday on the social media platform, suggesting that Moore was the face of the Republican party:

That didn’t sit well with a number of Twitter users, who pointed out that Hayes needed to work on cleaning his own backyard before he started casting stones over the fence:

Donald Trump, Jr. joined in, too, and hammered the Virginia point home:

It should be noted that Trump, Jr. opposes Moore’s candidacy like most Republicans do:

As of this writing, Hayes has not responded to Trump, Jr.’s tweet.

Delete Your Account: MSNBC’s Chris Hayes Wonders If McConnell Is Better or Worse Than Segregationist Senators

The hot takes we’ve gotten from Democrats in the aftermath of Joe Biden’s praise of his ability to get along with segregationist Senators in the 1970s have been all over the map.

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said in an interview Thursday that Biden’s comments on Democratic Sens. James Eastland (MS) and Herman Talmadge (GA) were not that big a deal in the scheme of things. Why? Because Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) were “pretty stinky, creepy people themselves” and Democratic Senators like Biden critic Cory Booker (NJ) had to work with them, too, she stated.

Sen. Kamala Harris (CA) ripped Biden’s remarks, suggesting he was “coddling the reputations of segregationists.” On the other hand, civil rights icons and Congressmen John Lewis (D-GA) and James Clyburn (D-SC) both defended Biden, saying they had to work with some pretty bad people back in those days, too.

MSNBC‘s “All In” host Chris Hayes had his own special take on it all in the midst of the controversy, and took to the Twitter machine to wonder out loud:

He followed up with a little bit of “WhatAboutBothism”, perhaps in an attempt to make his initial tweet sound more… measured:

Twitter being Twitter, there was actually a debate between liberals in the comments:

In the end, there was no clear winner in the debate. But there was one casualty: Common sense.

Here’s How Long CNN and MSNBC Showed Trump’s Campaign Launch Speech

Westlake Legal Group cnn-banana-620x348 Here’s How Long CNN and MSNBC Showed Trump’s Campaign Launch Speech Trump Speech Trump Campaign Announcement Politics MSNBC media bias Jeffrey Toobin Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump democrats CNN Chris Hayes Brian Stelter bias 2020 election

The bias of CNN and MSNBC isn’t really in question, but here’s another example to throw on the heap.

Last night, President Trump announced his re-election bid in front of an overflow crowd in Florida. Whether you support him or not, a sitting President announcing his next campaign is undoubtedly newsworthy, so much so that nearly every news network out there live streamed the entire thing.

Well, all but a couple.

This is probably what we can expect going forward, especially from CNN. After getting savaged in 2016 for “promoting” Donald Trump, I’d be surprised if they ever shows Trump speaking about anything ever again. They got the message and are bowing to it.

In total, CNN showed six minutes of the speech before cutting away for “analysis.”

The irony of Stelter saying that Trump “reverted to his usual lines” is that CNN’s “analysis” is nothing but the sames lines of criticism over and over with the same people, on the same panels, with the same hosts. If monotony was their concern, they’d have done better showing reruns of Cuomo’s show than putting Jeffrey Toobin on air for the millionth time to rant and rave.

More so, should a network really be basing it’s programing decisions on getting it’s feelings hurt by a crowd saying “CNN sucks?” If you are CNN, the answer is yes.

MSNBC didn’t show the speech at all, but that’s to be expected. They don’t even try to hide who they are and I kind of at least respect that compared to Stelter’s network. It’s hilariously on brand that instead of showing the speech, they decided to have Chris Hayes talk about people flashing the “OK sign” outside the Trump speech to troll them. Like moths to a flame, they can’t resist.

By comparison, both networks gave unfettered airtime to Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and even fringe Amy Klobuchar when they gave their announcement speeches. While CNN and MSNBC may claim it’s about the “same lines” being said or the crowd getting rowdy, the simple truth is that they don’t trust their viewers enough to not feel like they have to tightly control the narrative.

If you’ve been on political Twitter today, you’ve probably seen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s crazy comments on border detention facilities being “concentration camps.” She’s since doubled and tripled down on them.

This makes no sense for so many reasons that it’s hard to articulate. No one is forcing people to cross our border illegally and they are free to leave at any time. Illegal immigrants in our detention facilities are not being forced to work or being gassed with their families. Everyone being held at the border are being given due process and will have their claims adjudicated. There’s essentially no comparison at all to any historical definition of a concentration camp. If anyone commits a crime in this country, they are typically confined for some period of time while their case is processed. That’s all that’s happening at the border. How any of this is controversial, I don’t know.

No mind though. The white knights in the media rushed to defend AOC anyway because that’s what they do.

Here’s Dave Weigel from The Washington Post.

She was just talking about the Boer War you guys! Yes, I’m sure AOC, who’s knowledge of history ends with the results of last year’s American Idol, was actually giving a call back to a little known war in South Africa. That’s the ticket.

The level of gaslighting being presented by Weigel in that tweet was hard to top, but MSNBC’s resident historian managed it.

“ACKSHUALLY…”

Telling others to learn “some actual history” while defending a ridiculously a-historical assertion is the most Chris Hayes thing ever.

Even though it’s apparent that AOC meant the Holocaust, we don’t even have to speculate. Why? Because she specifically cited “never again,” which is directly referencing the Holocaust. There is no question she was making a comparison to Nazi concentration camps and it’s ludicrously dishonest to suggest otherwise.

Meanwhile, press outlets like The Washington Post decided the real story here was that Republicans were upset, because that’s always the story right?

Then something amazing happened.

The actual Auschwitz Museum chimed in and made a polite suggestion to Chris Hayes, CNN’s K-File, and others who rushed to defend AOC’s comments. It’s one of the most incredible “I’m not owned” moments in Twitter history.

I suspect “concentration camp” Twitter won’t end here though. The media are already running to post op-eds by “historians” letting us know that border detention facilities are in fact just like Nazi death camps, just at an earlier stage. I guess the CBP are the Waffen SS in this scenario, underhandedly building infrastructure leading toward the extermination of illegal immigrants? It’s all so crazy that I’m not even sure what else to say about it.

We’ve reached a level of absurdity in our political discourse that’s hard to fathom.

Twitter responses to AOC’s ‘concentration camp’ claim have been all over the map

Westlake Legal Group AOC-pointing Twitter responses to AOC’s ‘concentration camp’ claim have been all over the map The Blog Nazis concentration camp Chris Hayes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

There have been two main responses on Twitter today to AOC’s claim that the US is running concentration camps. Many blue-checked progressives followed AOC’s dishonest lead by denying she meant anything to do with the Holocaust and insisting she was using a more general definition of the phrase. The other response was to simply admit she was referring to the Nazis and cheer on the comparison. The fact that these two responses are at odds didn’t seem to bother many of her fans. First, here’s the ‘actually, she’s technically correct’ reaction:

Chris eventually, sort of, backed away from this a bit, admitting that maybe AOC had gone a bit too far in making an implied Nazi comparison:

Lots of people didn’t bother to explain themselves this clearly, they just posted the dictionary definition of “concentration camp” to prove the phrase didn’t have to mean death camp:

Anyway, you get the idea. Lots of people tweeting screencaps of the dictionary. There was also a whole subset of these responses suggesting “concentration camp” could have been a historical reference to the Second Boer War. Case in point:

The bottom line is that she didn’t mean what she clearly meant. Deny, deny, deny…

Of course, AOC used the phrase “never again” and said the president was a “fascist” which seems to clearly evoke a specific type of (NAZI) concentration camp. But AOC’s fans were eager to ignore these details and instead pretend she’d be making a generic remark about the Boer War…or something. I think they did this mostly because they felt the NAZI comparison wasn’t as defensible and they desperately wanted to defend her. It was a pathetic and dishonest spectacle.

The other reaction on the left was to simply take note of the obvious Nazi comparison she had made and cheer it on. That’s what Rep. Jerry Nadler did, completely undercutting the claim she didn’t mean those concentration camps:

But he wasn’t alone. Lots of people agreed we’re now on the path to another Holocaust:

There are hundreds of more tweets like this embracing AOC’s Nazi comparison as a warning of things to come.

So there you have it. AOC was using the dictionary definition of “concentration camp” which is not about Nazis because she definitely wasn’t making that comparison. Also, she’s was clearly warning us it’s 1933 and we’re about to see a repeat of the Holocaust. Take your pick. For AOC fans, the important part is that, whatever she said or whatever it meant, she’s 100% correct.

MSNBC Host Provides the Most Hilarious Explanation of the Economy in History

Westlake Legal Group chrishayes-620x348 MSNBC Host Provides the Most Hilarious Explanation of the Economy in History trump economy Politics MSNBC Media Front Page Stories Featured Story Economy donald trump democrats Chris Hayes Allow Media Exception

One of the major problems confronting the Democrats in 2020 is the state of the economy. Barring some deus ex machina, President Trump is going to campaign for reelection within the context of a significant economic boom. The stock market is booming. Inflation remains low. Real wages are up. Labor force participation is up. Unemployment is at near historic lows. Ordinarily, people would be happy for a great economy, but, with the Democrats, good news for America is bad news for their party.

Their most immediate problem is how to rationalize the economy under Trump to the economy overseen by Obama. At that point, the conventional wisdom among Democrats and professional economists was that high unemployment, low labor force participation, and stagnant wages were the new normal.

Now MSNBC “personality” Chris Hayes has his own theory to explain the difference:

Everyone who called for austerity got it wrong and caused harm

Everyone who scaremongered about the deficit got it wrong and caused harm

Everyone who wrote about the “skills gap” got it wrong and caused harm

Everyone who kept warning about inflation got it wrong and caused harm

Lots of regular people – critics, bloggers, gadflies, etc were able to see this but the commanding heights of the econ/policy/political worlds either could not or would not.

Or, an even less charitable interpretation: they didn’t get it wrong at all. They didn’t want full employment, they didn’t want wage growth and empowered workers and they certainly didn’t want that happening under a Democratic president.

I mean, years of the titans of industry whining about the skills mismatch, how they can’t find good workers, and chin-stroking conferences about labor force participation, and columns about how it was workers’ own fault, on and on and on, all just garbage.

Yep. That’s exactly what happened. Tens of thousands of American businesses decided they’d go out of business rather than let Obama’s economic plan be a success. Millions of Americans decided they’d just sit at home and not work to screw the black guy.

This is ridiculous.

Not to say that Obama didn’t inherit an economic mess, he did. But, like FDR’s New Deal, Obama tried to use a financial crisis to fundamentally change the US economy and to increase government influence. He reduced the workforce by nearly 9 million by liberalizing rules for disability insurance and did this as much to try to create a new class of benefit recipients who would reliably vote Democrat as for any other reason. But the reason that the economy has taken off under Trump is because both consumers and employers feel more secure in their finances and have more confidence to make major investments and purchases. Putting the brakes on federal rule-making and rolling back rules that inhibit growth have also been a factor. Getting out of the way as oil/gas exploration and extraction has boomed has been a major stimulus to the national economy.

More to the detail of Hayes nonsense. Obama was not burdened with any “austerity” measures

Neither has Trump benefited from an increase in inflation:

Westlake Legal Group inflation-620x383 MSNBC Host Provides the Most Hilarious Explanation of the Economy in History trump economy Politics MSNBC Media Front Page Stories Featured Story Economy donald trump democrats Chris Hayes Allow Media Exception

A lot of the “skills gap” was utter bullsh** pushed by the Chamber of Commerce in its eagerness to bring in more cheap H1B visa recipients to replace American workers. Under Obama, most American STEM graduates didn’t work in that field but no one in the White House ever challenged the narrative because Obama, too, wanted cheap foreign workers and Americans on the dole.

I have no doubt that this will not become a full-fledged scandal, probably rating its own special counsel, by the time the election season is in full swing. There is probably a Michael Moore movies in the making about this conspiracy. But most people are going to see this for what it is, a dimwitted cable talking head trying to rationalize away a very good economy.
