The aftermath of a publicity stunt gone badly by Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar continued into Friday Night on the show hosted by super-duper progressive icon, Bill Maher. His once a week HBO show “Real Time With Bill Maher” usually is a launching pad for attacks on Trump or anyone supporting him.

Occasionally though he throws a curveball and last night was one of those nights.

From The Hill…

Liberal commentator Bill Maher on Friday night went after the international movement to boycott Israel, calling it a “bullshit purity test” for Democrats after the Israeli government said it would deny entry to two U.S. congresswomen because of their support for the boycotts.

Maher drew applause in studio on his HBO show after declaring the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement supported by some congressional Democrats “a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class.”

“It’s predicated on this notion, I think – it’s very shallow thinking – that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied,” he said.

As I covered here yesterday Rashida Tlaib Gives Donald Trump And Benjamin Netanyahu HUGE P.R. Victory this has turned out to be a huge flop as a publicity stunt for BDS. However, Maher touches on a deeper point here that I have not seen many in the mainstream media make.

The very idea that United States CITIZENS who happen to be elected officials are aligned with this movement which is based on pure fantasy is maddening to the logical mind. That Tlaib and Omar are so unskilled at pulling off a publicity stunt likes this pretty much proves Nancy Pelosi’s point from a month back. These Freshman members of the “Progressive Cheer Squad” are not ready for prime time yet.

When you have lost Bill Maher on something you might want to reexamine your whole overall outlook on things if you are a progressive. Luckily for us, these ladies will not do any such thing. They believe their cause is so righteous that they will not spend a moment for introspection on any of us.

Which means more goof-ups for us to watch for at least the next year and a half.

The Israeli governments move announced earlier today that Rep. Ilhan Omar D-Minn and Rep. Rashida Tlaib D-Mich would be banned from making a trip there beginning on Sunday, has created waves in both countries diplomatically.

This has also created another potential problem for the Democrats in Congress.

Some background first.

The current President of these United States happens to be Donald Trump and he is not a fan of these two ladies and the other members of the “Progressive Cheer Squad” and those that share their mindset. In fact, just before the official announcement from the Israeli Interior Ministry confirming the ban saying it was “inconceivable that those who wish to harm the state of Israel while visiting would be granted entry”, Trump tweeted this…

It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!

Generally, Presidents don’t make such statements about their counterparts in the Article I branch of government. However, we are now fully aware that in the “Age of Trump” the rule book on these things has been thrown out the window. Trump operates on a totally different level than any President before so that which was once uncommon is now commonplace.

The President also flat out said that this in a tweet just after the announcement was made…

Representatives Omar and Tlaib are the face of the Democrat Party, and they HATE Israel!

So it is clear that President Trump not only pushed for this ban but thinks that Omar and Tlaib hate Israel. Is that a fair argument?

Well, it is one that the Democrats in the House of Representatives actually confronted earlier this year.

From a March 4th article over at NPR

House Democrats are again considering a vote on a new resolution condemning anti-Semitism in response to recent comments by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., that senior members of the party and Jewish groups say play on anti-Semitic tropes. A House Democratic leadership aide said the vote could come as early as Wednesday.

A spokesman for Omar has not responded to a request for comment on the resolution.

The infighting among Democrats has largely played out on social media, but this time the Minnesota Democrat is pushing back against her colleagues who say she should apologize and change her tone.

The House voted 424-0 last month on a Republican motion to condemn anti-Semitism following a controversy over Omar’s tweets in which she suggested lawmakers support Israel only because of Jewish lobbying influence and money.

The article also goes on to talk about how House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, D-N.Y and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y both pushed back on these comments. Engel went as far as to ask for her to be removed from his committee. Also, Speaker Nancy Pelosi was contacted by the head of the Anti-Defamation League to condemn the statements made.

Just a mere 5 months ago Democrats voted to essentially tell one of the members of the squad to shove it. Of course in the most polite way the House can.

Pelosi is going to have to walk a fine line here. The one HUGE advantage she has is that Donald Trump has already mixed it up with these two. The media will run with picking on people of color nonsense and that he got Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to play along.

The huge downside is that Pelosi is once again dealing with a minority in her caucus that thinks they represent the country thus that anything they say is speaking for the people. So far, that has not proven to be true.

Even though the “Go Back To Your Own Country” line from Trump created a bit of a cease-fire in the battle between Pelosi and the cheer crew, it won’t last. Like her or despise her, Nancy Pelosi knows how to lead. The ones who criticize Donald Trump for tweeting and do the exact same thing don’t have that skill yet. If they take this as a signal to start firing off some crazy stuff, Trump will win that battle every day.

Which in that case could lead to the beginning of the break of that ceasefire because of the pressure behind the scenes of people agreeing with the ban in Dem circles.

We now have under 15 months until the next Presidential election. The Dem POTUS hopefuls are turning up the rhetoric on Trump and soon to be each other. Nancy Pelosi wants to keep herself as a Speaker and keep the newbies from going off the rails with language that is or may seem anti sematic.

Even with Trump as the foil will the democrats be able to keep their radical members in line?

We have just over 400 days until we find out and it will be well worth watching.

Songwriter for Award-Winning, Chart-Topping Christian Group Renounces His Faith

Are you familiar with the Christian music group Hillsong United?

The band won the Dove Award for best recorded worship song in 2018, 2017’s best long form video, and best worship album the year prior. In 2014, it took home five Doves.

Now Hillsong is making news for a very different reason: Marty Sampson — a songwriter for the hitmaker — has announced he’s “genuinely losing” his Christian faith.

As reported by Christian Headlines, Marty put up a now-deleted post to Instagram noting his religious foundation was “on incredibly shaky ground.”

And not only is he losing his religion, he also seems to be losing his concern:

“Time for some real talk. I’m genuinely losing my faith … and it doesn’t bother me … like, what bothers me now is nothing … I am so happy now, so at peace with the world… It’s crazy.”

He laid out reasons:

“This is a soapbox moment so here I go … how many preachers fall? Many. No one talks about it. How many miracles happen. Not many. No one talks about it. Why is the Bible full of contradictions? No one talks about it. How can God be love yet send four billion people to a place, all coz they don’t believe? No one talks about it. Christians can be the most judgmental people on the planet — they can also be some of the most beautiful and loving people … but it’s not for me. I am not in anymore. I want genuine truth. Not the ‘I just believe it’ kind of truth. Science keeps piercing the truth of every religion. Lots of things help people change their lives, not just one version of God. Got so much more to say, but for me, I’m keeping it real. Unfollow if you want, I’ve never been about living my life for others.”

Furthermore:

“All I know is what’s true to me right now, and Christianity just seems to me like another religion at this point,”

He later explained to The Christian Post that he’s searching:

“I have and continue to analyze the arguments of prominent Christian apologists and biblical scholars, and am open-minded enough to consider the arguments of atheist debaters and debaters from other religions. If the truth is true, it will remain so regardless of my understanding of it. If I search it out, surely it will become even more clearly seen as the truth that it is. Examining a diamond more closer reveals the quality of the diamond. As I am still breathing, I am still learning.”

Of course, these kinds of things are going to happen. People fall out of their faith. I recently covered the case of Christian author Joshua Harris, who wrote a million-plus-selling church dating guide in the 90’s and is now renouncing his religion and getting a divorce (here).

As noted by RedState’s Brandon Morse, John Cooper — lead singer of the Christian rock band Skillet — had something to say about highly publicized religious turnover as of late:

“I have a few specific thoughts and rebuttals to statements made by recently disavowed church influencers…first of all, I am stunned that the seemingly most important thing for these leaders who have lost their faith is to make such a bold new stance. … I’m perplexed why they aren’t embarrassed? Humbled? Ashamed, fearful, confused? Why be so eager to continue leading people when you clearly don’t know where you are headed?

“It is time for the church to rediscover the preeminence of the Word. And to value the teaching of the Word. We need to value truth over feeling. Truth over emotion. And what we are seeing now is the result of the church raising up influencers who did not supremely value truth who have led a generation who also do not believe in the supremacy of truth. And now those disavowed leaders are proudly still leading and influencing boldly AWAY from the truth.”

Are you a Hillsong fan? What are your thoughts on this particular story, and on the notion of lost faith in general? I anxiously await them.

A rash of Christian youth leaders has publicly announced that they’re losing their faith via social media outlets. For those who follow them closely, and/or came to God through them, this is potentially a hard blow to their faith as well.

I was seeing reports about these faltering leaders and even I felt downhearted. While my personal faith wasn’t shaken, we live in a time where God is quickly becoming something of a secondary thought in our society, and it shows. People are miserable and directionless. They lack purpose and their lives feel shallow.

With these Christian youth leaders walking away from the faith, this problem can only deepen.

Enter John Cooper of the Christian rock band “Skillet.”

Cooper saw, as much of the Christian did, the announcement from Hillsong songwriter Marty Sampson on the renunciation of his faith. Taking to Facebook, Cooper noted that we’ve made it the influencer’s job to be the leaders of our faith, not Christ and that we’ve made our faith emotion-based, not truth-based.

“Ok I’m saying it. Because it’s too important not to. What is happening in Christianity?” began Cooper’s blistering post. “More and more of our outspoken leaders or influencers who were once “faces” of the faith are falling away. And at the same time they are being very vocal and bold about it. Shockingly they still want to influence others (for what purpose?)as they announce that they are leaving the faith.”

Cooper noted that making internet influencers and celebrities the most relevant people in Christianity has to stop and that relying on modern songs to teach the Gospel instead of the Gospel itself is a mistake that can potentially lead people astray. He even includes himself for good measure:

My conclusion for the church(all of us Christians): We must STOP making worship leaders and thought leaders or influencers or cool people or “relevant” people the most influential people in Christendom. (And yes that includes people like me!) I’ve been saying for 20 years(and seemed probably quite judgmental to some of my peers) that we are in a dangerous place when the church is looking to 20 year old worship singers as our source of truth. We now have a church culture that learns who God is from singing modern praise songs rather than from the teachings of the Word. I’m not being rude to my worship leader friends (many who would agree with me) in saying that singers and musicians are good at communicating emotion and feeling. We create a moment and a vehicle for God to speak. However, singers are not always the best people to write solid bible truth and doctrine. Sometimes we are too young, too ignorant of scripture, too unaware, or too unconcerned about the purity of scripture and the holiness of the God we are singing to. Have you ever considered the disrespect of singing songs to God that are untrue of His character?

Cooper also wrote on the flaring foolishness of these influencers wanting to stay influencers despite the fact that they seem to be directionless themselves:

I have a few specific thoughts and rebuttals to statements made by recently disavowed church influencers…first of all, I am stunned that the seemingly most important thing for these leaders who have lost their faith is to make such a bold new stance. Basically saying, “I’ve been living and preaching boldly something for 20 years and led generations of people with my teachings and now I no longer believe it..therefore I’m going to boldly and loudly tell people it was all wrong while I boldly and loudly lead people in to my next truth.” I’m perplexed why they aren’t embarrassed? Humbled? Ashamed, fearful, confused? Why be so eager to continue leading people when you clearly don’t know where you are headed?

After calling out how cavalier these influencers are being with other people’s lives by “being real,” Cooper calls out these leader’s ideas that no one is addressing hard Biblical issues but them:

Thirdly, there is a common thread running through these leaders/influencers that basically says that “no one else is talking about the REAL stuff.” This is just flatly false. I just read today in a renown worship leader’s statement, “How could a God of love send people to hell? No one talks about it.” As if he is the first person to ask this? Brother, you are not that unique. The church has wrestled with this for 1500 years. Literally. Everybody talks about it. Children talk about it in Sunday school. There’s like a billion books written on the topic. Just because you don’t get the answer you want doesn’t mean that we are unwilling to wrestle with it. We wrestle with scripture until we are transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Cooper concludes by essentially saying we need to turn back to the Word of God and leave behind the word of influencers who are driven more by emotion than faith. He warns not to follow these leaders as they try to get people to follow them when they don’t even know where they’re going:

It is time for the church to rediscover the preeminence of the Word. And to value the teaching of the Word. We need to value truth over feeling. Truth over emotion. And what we are seeing now is the result of the church raising up influencers who did not supremely value truth who have led a generation who also do not believe in the supremacy of truth. And now those disavowed leaders are proudly still leading and influencing boldly AWAY from the truth.

Is it any wonder that some of our disavowed Christian leaders are letting go of the absolute truth of the Bible and subsequently their lives are falling apart? Further and further they are sinking in the sea all the while shouting “now I’ve found the truth! Follow me!!” Brothers and sisters in the faith all around the world, pastors, teachers, worship leaders, influencers…I implore you, please please in your search for relevancy for the gospel, let us NOT find creative ways to shape Gods word into the image of our culture by stifling inconvenient truths. But rather let us hold on even tighter to the anchor of the living Word of God. For He changes NOT. “The grass withers and the flowers fade away, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8)

I wanted to highlight this because Cooper has a point. It can be damaging to see someone who leads flocks go astray themselves, but we shouldn’t be considering them our leaders in the first place. God is the leader. People falter and lose faith all the time. Every Christian goes through having their faith tested to the breaking point.

It bugs me that these so-called faith leaders would be so shallow as to suddenly make it a public show of renouncing the faith they promoted and became a beacon for so many for. As Cooper said, it’s awfully cavalier, and not at all brave or “real.”

If you would like to read Cooper’s Facebook post in full, you can read it below.

Chick-fil-A really is a marvel.

Unlike so many other companies (would that be, all other companies?), they haven’t caved to any pressure from the far and belligerent Left.

Why not?

Could it be because it’s dumb to say what others tell you to say, rather than what you believe you should?

Perhaps.

But according to Business Insider, the company’s commitment to certain ideals has to do with keeping a promise.

In founder Truett Cathy’s memoir, Eat Mor Chickin: Inspire More People, he recalled a covenant he and his family made:

“We will be faithful to Christ’s lordship in our lives. As committed Christians we will live a life of selfless devotion to His calling in our lives. We will prayerfully seek His leadership in all major decisions that impact our family and others. Our family roles as spouses to our lifelong mates, parents to our children, and loving aunts and uncles will be our priority.”

The family vowed to uphold its Christian values as it found success and a place of cultural influence — achieved in part by philanthropic work, always being closed on Sunday, and never taking the company public.

In 2013, Truett’s son, Dan, took the helm as CEO. Since then, he’s seen the chicken chain become a veritable empire: It’s now the third largest chain in the U.S., with the first-most important single pickle in the history of sandwiches.

What a difference a dill makes. MmmmMMMM!

Chick-fil-A caught flack for its matrimonial disposition — here’s what Dan said on The Ken Coleman Show amid debate over gay marriage:

“I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’ I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”

Last year, as noted by The Daily Wire, both The New Yorker and HuffPostd railed against the Chick.

Welcome to “Sunday Sunshine,” a new weekly column I’ve started to highlight some of the good news out there. It can be all too easy to get dragged down by negativity, especially in the divisive atmosphere of our 24-7 news cycle, so it’s a good idea to remember that most people aren’t like the trolls you find on Twitter. In fact, most people are generally good people, and they’re doing some very good things. Sunday Sunshine will seek to highlight that, plus of course some cute animal videos and random silly things I find, because isn’t that why we have the internet?

If you have ideas for upcoming Sunday Sunshine articles, please reach out to me on Facebook or Twitter. Enjoy!

Jackson Proskow, the Washington Bureau Chief for the Canadian Global News, witnessed a moving scene on a recent flight from Dallas to Washington, D.C. The plane was carrying the remains of an American pilot, Col. Roy Knight Jr., whose plane had been shot down during the Vietnam War in 1967. Knight’s remains had recently been recovered and were being returned home to his family, with a very special pilot for that flight: Knight’s own son, who had watched his father depart for the war and had grown up to be a pilot himself.

Read Proskow’s full story here.

The promised cute animal content: Check out this video of a baby duck being reunited with his siblings after successfully being rescued and rehabbed. According to the original post on Reddit, he noticed the little duck was having increasing trouble walking, eventually becoming immobile. He took the duck to a wildlife rehabber who diagnosed him with botulism poisoning and nursed him back to health.

After the duck recovered, the rescuer brought him back to his family, and “As you can see, all the feels ensued.”

Here’s a story I covered last week, in case you missed it. After Shoshana Ovitz was freed from the Auschwitz concentration camp at the end of World War II, she married and had four children. She just celebrated her 104th birthday in Israel, surrounded by about four hundred of her descendants. The photos from her family gathering at the Western Wall are a powerful testament to the power of faith and family to triumph over evil.

Alabama Baptist Pastor Confessed to Relationships with Underage Boys – During Sunday Service

41-year-old John Martin had a confession to make.

So he did, from the pulpit of his church.

During Sunday service, the Alabama pastor admitted to the congregation of Lighthouse Baptist Church that he’d had an “affair” — with, purportedly, two underage boys.

He’d confessed the activity to his wife prior to telling the church.

John brought his sins to light on June 23rd. He was arrested July 1st on four charges of felony sexual abuse.

The booking came after members of the church contacted authorities.

Before being taken into custody, he’d turned over two guns and checked himself into a psychiatric center.

According to court records, he’d had sexual encounters with one boy at his home and on an out-of-state road trip. He’d also sent explicit texts.

Lauderdale County Assistant District Attorney Angie Hamilton told AL.com there could be much more to the story:

“We have identified several potential victims. We believe other charges are forthcoming.”

Before taking the lead role at the Florence house of worship in 2010, John had worked in other states.

Lighthouse Baptist isn’t exactly a bastion of liberalism: At the time of John’s arrest, the church website (which seems to have been taken down) requested that men “dress in shirts and ties, while [thier] ladies wear modest skirts and dresses.”

As for its position on gay relationships:

“We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex.”

As reported by the New York Daily News, a photo on the site in early July depicted “the pastor with what [appeared] to be his family: his wife, two young daughters and three sons.”

It read, “We are proud to have Pastor Martin and his family with us. Since Pastor Martin came to Lighthouse, we have seen a growth that can only come from God. Pastor and his family would love for you to visit Lighthouse Baptist Church very soon!”

John was also a bus driver for Florence City Schools.

From Alabama’s ABC 31:

The accuser claims he was on Martin’s school bus when Martin showed him nude photos of himself with a towel over his body. The victim also stated Martin would text him on various occasions and asked him if he had touched himself that day. The victim said he was always scared to come forward and would freeze up when Martin would touch him.

Court documents revealed that one boy said the sexual contact began when he was 12.

There aren’t many guarantees in life; you never know where your children are safe. But of those mysterious locations, church should be one of the most likely.

At Lighthouse House Baptist Church in Florence Alabama, sadly, that wasn’t the case.

Vice President Pence Calls on the Nation to Turn to God in the Aftermath of Evil Mass Shootings

On Tuesday, as Americans continued to process the terrible mass shootings which occurred over the weekend, Mike Pence called on the nation to turn its heart toward God.

Speaking to the Alliance Defending Freedom in Arlington, the Vice President referenced a remark by the Commander-in-Chief:

“As the president said, ‘Now is the time to set destructive partisanship aside…and find the courage to answer hatred with unity, devotion, and love.’ Now is the time to overcome evil with good.”

And how do we do that? Perhaps it’s through communication with a higher power:

“It has always been true throughout the long history of this country, in times of trial, the American people turn to faith and prayer.”

Pray for everyone hurt — the victims and the nation, broadly:

“In this dark hour for the people of El Paso and Dayton, we do well to pray, pray for healing, pray for the families of those that were lost and injured, pray for those communities, and for our nation as a whole.”

Fireside Chat with Vice President Mike Pence and ADF CEO Michael Farris

Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence and ADF CEO Michael Farris discuss religious liberty and sanctity of life issues in America and around the world.

Belief in God is a strength, he explained. It binds us:

“We also do well in this time to recognize that the greatest source of community in the modern world is faith. Our nation was built upon strong voluntary associations and depends upon them today more than ever before.”

Horrifically, the tragedies in Texas and Ohio left over 50 wounded and registered a death toll of — as of August 6th — 31.

It’s certainly a grave wound to the American soul.

And no answers to “why” could possibly suffice.

But Mike pointed out that, historically, the country’s houses of worship have served as places of comfort — though times are certainly changing:

“From the American founding, voluntary associations — churches, synagogues, places of worship, and religious education — have been at the center of American communities and they are the wellspring of American strength. But as you all know well, we live in a time where we’ve seen people driving religion from the public square and it’s even become fashionable for many in the media and popular culture to mock religious belief.”

For those of you who prone to agree, consider the Vice President’s call to help heal the national hurt:

“Let’s pray for the people of El Paso and Dayton. As we pray, let us resolve to act to make our communities safer. Let us resolve that we will do our part to ensure that our heritage of family and faith and freedom is renewed and preserved for this generation and the next.

“God bless the people of El Paso and Dayton and God bless all of you here to defend faith and freedom for the American people. And may God bless America.”

In the wake of the horrific shootings over the weekend in El Paso and Dayton, tempers are beginning to flare on all sides of the debate of what we need to do next. This is a natural path after the shock of this horrible events sinks in.

Someone who was a victim of a politically motivated shooting back in 2017 is Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) who survived an attempt on his life at a Congressional baseball practice session in June two years ago. Scalise’s office released a statement that carries a tad bit more weight than the usual run of the run mill politician talking point because of his unique position of having survived one of these attacks America now suffers through more frequently.

From his office…

“There is a growing sickness in our nation. Our religious and community institutions — the very glue that holds us together — are declining as a central force in American society, while the politicization of every aspect of our lives is on the rise. These shooters turned to hatred and violence, and as a result, dozens of Americans are dead.

“These events should be classified as domestic terrorism, and I’m glad that in the case of El Paso, the FBI is treating it as such. We must better equip our law enforcement agencies to prevent these massacres before they happen. There is clearly a culture of death in America today. Violence is glorified and normalized on our screens every day. Instead of seeking professional help for mental health problems, men are being radicalized in online forums. This must stop.

“In a media culture that encourages viewing people solely through hyper-partisan lenses, and not as neighbors and fellow citizens, dangerous division and hatred of those you disagree with is the outcome. This can often lead to violent consequences, as I have personally experienced.

“These events are tragedies. Reducing them to talking points and name-calling in support of narrow political agendas only further divides our country.

“Jennifer and I pray for the people of El Paso and Dayton. May God help us and heal this great nation.”

The Representative is spot on here about there is a growing sickness in this country. You can ban every assault weapon that man has ever conceived and if the core reason why this is happening is not addressed, you won’t solve this problem.

As this nation buries the bodies of those who lives were taken by heinous evil acts, let us resolve to actually have a discussion about what is going on here. If your view is just passing more laws banning some things than you are putting a band-aid on the gaping wound of the nation’s heart.

As Paul of Tarsus says in the New Testament…

“where sin increased, grace abounds all the more” (Romans 5:20)

Lets actually start trying to solve this from a position that both Rep. Scalise and St. Paul suggest. We might even begin to actually solve this problem that is truly eating away at the soul of our nation.
