Buzz: A New Delay in Release of IG FISA Abuse Report Due to ‘Intra-Agency Debate’ Over Redactions

(AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

The long-awaited DOJ Inspector General’s report on FISA abuse was expected to be released this Friday.

Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo told viewers on Sunday that, “I’m hearing the IG report will be out this upcoming Friday, Oct. 18, and my sources say it’s as thick as a telephone book.” On Monday, she walked back her statement in the following tweet: “UPDATE: -IG report NOT out this Friday 10/18. Classifications being made. Likely end of month.”

On his Monday night show, Sean Hannity said he’s now hearing from sources that there’s been a delay. The latest buzz is that it will come next week.

Hannity spoke to Fox News’ contributor and former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). According to Chaffetz, the reason for the latest delay is that there have been “intra-agency” disagreements over classification issues. He added that up to 10-20% of the report may be redacted.

Chaffetz suggested that Obama’s Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and CIA Director John Brennan may be responsible for the holdup. Both are alleged to have played key roles in the origins of the Trump/Russia collusion investigations and therefore have strong incentives to seek heavy redactions. Former FBI Director James Comey is likely involved in the push for redactions as well.

Aside from the fact that Democrats are trying to minimize damage to themselves and their party, the delay also allows the impeachment inquiry to remain the dominant story in the news for a longer period of time. It’s been over a month since DOJ IG Michael Horowitz submitted this report to Attorney General William Barr.

Why are Republicans afraid to stand up to Democrats?

Below is an excerpt and a video of Hannity and Chaffetz’ discussion about the new delay.

Sean Hannity: Which brings us to the IG report. Congressman Chaffetz, it’s been taking us a long time. And we heard the end of this week. Now we hear the beginning of next week. I can never get a straight answer. You know, at some point are we going to see premeditated fraud on a FISA Court and people held accountable? Spying on a presidential campaign, transition and president?

Jason Chaffetz: It has been going on for an exceptionally long time. Evidently there’s an intra-agency debate and really a food fight, if you will, over the classification issues. Remember in the last report put out by Horowitz there were only seven words or so that were redacted. The Democrats threw a fit that they couldn’t see the whole thing. This could have 10-20% of the report redacted…

Sean Hannity: Is that director Wray who has not shown any willingness to clean up the greatest law enforcement agency in the world? Is that him?

Jason Chaffetz: I have not seen any evidence that Director Wray has been cooperative but I think we’re talking about other agencies, perhaps. Perhaps the CIA the NSA, there are others. Mr. Clapper, Mr. Brennan, are behind the scenes fighting as best they can. in front of the camera fighting as best they can. I think you need to look at what Mr. Comey, the director of the FBI and his interaction with Brennan in particular. What sort of collusion was happening in our government and overseas. That’s the deep concern, Sean.

BREAKING: DOJ IG Report Due Out Friday, Will Cover More Than FISA Abuse

Quick bit of breaking news just dropped.

About a month ago, IG Horowitz announced he had finished his report dealing with the Trump-Russia investigation, which most assumed would only cover possible FISA abuse. Now we are getting word it’s coming out this Friday.

Per the Washington Examiner.

“I’m hearing the IG report will be out this upcoming Friday, Oct. 18, and my sources say it’s as thick as a telephone book,” Bartiromo said, adding that it covers “more than just FISA abuse.”

It has been exactly one month since Horowitz announced the completion of the investigation by his team, who pored over more than 1 million records and conducted 100-plus interviews. The inspector general gave a draft to the Justice Department and FBI for a classification review.

Upon the completion of that process, the report will first be delivered to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, who has pledged to do a “deep dive” of his own into FISA that will run concurrently with U.S. Attorney John Durham’s review of the early stages of the Russia investigation. The South Carolina Republican said his “No. 1 goal” is to have as much of the report declassified as possible.

Yeah, I’m sure Democrats and former Obama officials are shaking at the thought of another Senate committee investigation.

The real news here is that it’s seemingly confirmed that it covers more than FISA abuse, which likely will end up a dead end anyway. No doubt Horowitz will cite some breaches of protocol or label the FISA warrants illegal, but I have strong suspicions the DOJ will claim they can’t prove intent.

We’ll have to wait and see where this goes. The smart money is on it not mattering much, being buried by the media, and nothing actually happening.

James Comey Was Spying On Loretta Lynch

Westlake Legal Group ap-comey-lynch-620x413 James Comey Was Spying On Loretta Lynch The New York Post Spied Sandbagged Politics media bias loretta lynch lied james comey investigation informant Hillary Clinton Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story FBI doj democrats Allow Media Exception

Attorney General Loretta Lynch listens at left as FBI Director James Comey speaks during a news conference at the Justice Department in Washington, Thursday, March 24, 2016. Seven hackers tied to the Iranian government were charged Thursday in a series of punishing cyberattacks on a small dam outside New York City and on dozens of banks _ intrusions that reached into American infrastructure and disrupted the financial system, U.S. law enforcement officials said. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)

James Comey really had a thing for spying on people I guess. But don’t call it spying. Call it “human surveillance” so as not to offend the sensibilities of the media.

A new report has come out, based on a coming book by Pulitzer winning journalist James B. Stewart, in which it is revealed that former FBI Dir. Comey had a high level informant placed inside then Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s office.

This via The New York Post.

Lynch had made major career advances in the 1990s under President Bill Clinton — and her boss, President Barack Obama, plainly supported Hillary’s candidacy. Plus, Obama was also implicated in the scandal, since he’d exchanged multiple emails with Clinton at her non-government address — a fact they were all keeping from the public.

Stewart reports that Comey’s “highly placed informant” indicated that Lynch wouldn’t let the FBI investigation add to Clinton’s woes. An email reportedly from the head of the Democratic National Committee assured a civilian that “Lynch wouldn’t let the Clinton investigation get very far, suggesting that Lynch would protect Clinton,” Stewart writes.

There are two parts to this. One, the fact that Comey was running an informant against his own boss (the DOJ oversees the FBI) is pretty shocking. This guy apparently just had no boundaries at all. It’s like he was trying to be a the modern day J. Edgar Hoover but without the secret sex life.

The other, perhaps more newsworthy aspect of this is that Lynch was sandbagging the investigation to help Clinton. That’s been long suspected and multiple pieces of evidence have come out over the years pointing that direction. This may be the most direct accusation yet and it matches up exactly with what transpired. While Lynch claimed she was sitting on the sidelines, essentially recused without being recused, she knew the decision to not go after Hillary had already been passed down by her own DOJ. The game was rigged even while she was smiling for the cameras and claiming she’d do whatever the FBI wanted.

At this point, all these revelations are more intriguing that actionable. It’s not illegal for Comey to do what he did and Lynch is certainly not a sympathetic character herself. WHat it does show is just how underhanded these people were. Power was simply something to be abused and politics played a central role in many things they did.

Can You Say Coup? Rashida Tlaib Reveals Democrat Discussions to Arrest Trump Officials

President Donald Trump has broken Democrats and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) showed by just how much during an event she was holding with supporters on Tuesday.

Tlaib was caught on video revealing that Democrats have been discussing how and whether to arrest Trump officials for not complying with subpoenas.

From Free Beacon:

Tlaib told Detroit constituents at her “Congress, Coffee, and Conversation” event on Tuesday that lawmakers are focused on how best to take cabinet members into custody. “This is the first time we’ve ever had a situation like this,” she said. “So they’re trying to figure out, no joke, is it the D.C. police that goes and gets them? We don’t know. Where do we hold them?” ….

Tlaib said her colleagues are “trying to tread carefully” in this “uncharted territory.”

“I will tell them they can hold all those people right here in Detroit,” she joked. “We’ll take care of them and make sure they show up to the committee hearings.”

It’s not clear who specifically she is talking about arresting, although Democrats have had contempt votes against people such as Attorney General William Barr and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.

First, it wouldn’t be the D.C. police, it would be the Capitol Police.

But secondly, not responding to a subpoena isn’t “uncharted territory.” The Obama administration made it practically a cottage industry to avoid Congressional requests for information when they were embroiled in the many scandals – Benghazi, the IRS, Hillary Clinton, spying on Congress.

Indeed, former Attorney General Eric Holder, who described himself both as Obama’s “wingman” and his “boy,” was held in contempt for failing to turn over documents that were under subpoena in the Fast and Furious fiasco. The GOP didn’t arrest him. That was a real scandal not the manufactured angst they had against Ross and Barr over the unreacted Mueller report and the citizenship question on the census, respectively.

Holder withheld information about the Obama administration involvement in shipping about 2000 guns to Mexico that were then used to kill hundreds of Mexicans and at least one American law enforcement officer, CBP agent Brian Terry. Small difference.

One of the Obama administration weapons was even found when the U.S. ultimately nailed “El Chapo” in 2016.

From National Review:

Now, Fast and Furious is back in the news. Earlier this month, a raid on the hidey-hole of drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman recovered not only the notorious drug lord, but a (“massive”) .50-caliber rifle, capable of stopping a car or shooting down a helicopter, that originated with the ATF program. Rest easy, though: Only 34 such rifles were sold through the program.

The news comes just days after a federal judge rejected President Obama’s assertion of executive privilege to deny Congress access to Fast and Furious–related records it requested back in 2012 as part of an investigation into the gun-walking operation. Despite the IRS scandal, Benghazi, and a host of other accusations of malfeasance against this White House, it remains this president’s sole assertion of executive privilege.

Yet Republicans didn’t arrest Holder. And that scandal, like the many many scandals of the Obama administration, went down the memory hole when the administration refused to comply.

On the other hand, the DOJ has found there was nothing criminal with Ross or Barr refusing to comply with Democrats’ political witch hunt game.

From Politico:

In a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday, Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said the Cabinet officials’ defiance of congressional subpoenas seeking information about the 2020 census “did not constitute a crime.”

“[A]ccordingly the department will not bring the congressional contempt citations before a grand jury or take any other action to prosecute the attorney general or the secretary,” Rosen wrote, citing legal precedents from administration of both parties.

But imagine, this is where Democrats are at right now. They literally want to arrest their opponents. Can we say coup, people? And they say Trump is a “threat to democracy” or norms? They are ripping up norms right and left while ignoring their own hypocrisy in the process.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was on the Trump-Ukraine call, has said he will not testify and countenance the improper impeachment effort, calling it an “attempt to intimidate, bully, and treat improperly the distinguished professionals of the Department of State,” according to Free Beacon. And because the Democrats have not brought the question of an impeachment inquiry to a formal vote of the full floor, GOP are contesting their ability to subpoena and proceed without a proper vote.

The Trump administration is not likely to fold over any time soon for the Democrats who are desperate to tag Trump with something as the election inches ever closer and their prospects, given their candidates, are deeply questionable.

Down Memory Lane – Exposing Li’l Ben Rhodes and Others in the Obama Regime

Democrats and their lick-spittle media allies are madly flailing about now that it is confirmed that DoJ really is looking into potential intelligence community irregularities associated with the origins of the 2016 counter-intel investigation on candidate Trump. And that includes those who have a lot to lose, such as failed fiction writer Ben Rhodes. They all are tweeting on Twitter a lot lately and making public statements that smell of fear now that the Ukrainians, Italians, and Australians are cooperating in the DoJ investigation.

Intrepid independent researcher “NameRedacted” (a/k/a “Harold Finch”) was suspended multiple times on Twitter for exposing much about Rhodes and his associates in the Obama Administration, as well as about key members of the seditious cabal. In a previous incarnation, he posted well-sourced information exposing criminality by Obama regime operatives that was web-archived before being deleted by Twitter. As an historical summary, it is particularly relevant now in order to put the Russian hoax (#Spygate) and also the Democrats’ Ukraine political hit-job in proper context. I have compiled, edited and added to his information from my own perspective along the way. He – like I – are real patriots and are more interested in “getting the word out” than in credit for conveying the truth, and thus he fully supports presenting this here for additional Americans to digest.

Let’s take a moment to discuss Ben Rhodes. Ben Rhodes’ official White House title was Deputy National Security Adviser to the President. As Dep NSA, Ben Rhodes had a very famous boss. Ben’s immediate supervisor was Obama’s Natl Security Adviser Susan Rice. Susan Rice is famous for all the wrong reasons, starting with pushing a known lie to cover up the terror attack on Americans in Benghazi left to die who were memorialized in the movie, “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.” Rice then blamed a Youtube video as internal State Dept emails prove they knew it was Al Qaeda all along. This report from former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson lays that all out beautifully. It also resulted in the Obama FBI hacking her computers and illegally spying on her. Attkisson has forensic proof that is backed up by independent findings that she was hacked and spied on at home and at work at CBS, on multiple devices, at the time Ben Rhodes’ brother headed CBS news. This article elaborates further on Ben Rhodes, his brother at CBS News, and how Atkisson was spied on and hacked as a result of her reporting that the administration viewed as a threat.

Susan Rice, fresh off her Benghazi PR moment, moved up in the world when Obama beat Mittens Romney. He promoted her to National Security Adviser and chose Ben Rhodes as her deputy. Rice’s deputy is very interesting. Not only did Ben’s brother head CBS, but the FBI refused to give him a security clearance. I wonder what the FBI found that gave them pause, even as they literally gave them to known threats?

Also very interesting is who succeeded Susan Rice at the key post of UN Ambassador: Samantha J Power. Do you know what Samantha Power is most famous for? Allow me to refresh your memory here about the illegal unmasking of Americans. Now that’s profound and would have certainly alarmed NSA Dir Adm Rogers and the NSA IG. There’s zero legitimate reasons for Power to be unmasking ANY Americans. Her job had zero need to know for that information. This was such an anomaly that it was immediate flagged at NSA and the Director alerted. I have grave doubts about Power’s honesty, especially under oath, but this is interesting. She claimed ‘others’ were unmasking in her name, but her signature is on the documents themselves. Because Power’ job was directly related to NATSEC matters, she would have also reported to Rhodes and Rice. Interestingly, Rice denied unmasking while Rhodes never commented on the subject.

Susan Rice was lying. She later recanted her claim to know nothing about unmasking and admitted to doing so but said ‘it was legit and very limited.’ Riiiight. Rice and Samantha Power unmasked HUNDREDS of US Citizens in raw electronic surveillance records and leaked them all over the intel community and to the press. Think about how LTG Flynn’s calls made it into the legacy media

Someone was leaking the information from the spreadsheets Rice ordered the intelligence community to create that contained unmasked persons and raw SIGINT data. But Ben Rhodes in the interview shared by journalist Lee Smith says he knew nothing and wasn’t involved.

https://twitter.com/LeeSmithDC/status/1122319804013137920

In fact, here’s how prevalent the illegal spying was: a massive excel spreadsheet containing thousands and thousands of line items with raw Signals intercept data and unmasked US persons’ names in them was created and shared illegally as noted here. That’s what Power, Rice, and Rhodes were doing. It began long before the election and lasted up until the last moment the Obama admin was in the White House. These spreadsheets were provided all across the intell community, to media outlets, and Congress. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Evelyn Farkas openly bragged about it on MSNBC as this video shows:

https://twitter.com/AKA_RealDirty/status/1178876507734847493

Right now, you’re asking, “how is this possible?! There are supposed to be safeguards against this!” Yes, there are. All of them were ignored because Barack Obama issued an Executive Order suspending them.

Ben Rhodes claimed Obama White House did everything by the book and nothing illegal or improper happened. Sound familiar? Back to his boss and her email to herself, there was this from the White House email address that was sent literally MINUTES before President Trump’s  inauguration. Note that that letter is from a committee oversight chairman demanding answers. You know why – because that was a CYA letter that Rice sent to try to legally protect herself knowing she was criminally liable. It’s clear the entire National Security team of the Obama White House was deeply involved in Spygate before AND AFTER the 2016 election. There’s documentation of this – time stamped, court-admissible documentary evidence. This is just one example; note the timestamp/date.

Now, if everything was legal, if they were looking at valid NATSEC threats, why didn’t the FBI brief Trump about the FBI’s counter-intelligence investigation? Why did the Obama White House, FBI and DOJ have meetings discussing how to hide it all from Trump? Why did the Obama White House, by Obama’s executive order, change the order of succession at DoJ before leaving office? The incoming Trump admin knew this change was to maintain control of DoJ from outside President Trump’s administration and continue the coup and hide evidence of it from the DoJ OIG, as well as to stand in way of any prosecutions that might ensue. That was Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates’ primary task (until she was forced to resign!). President Trump reversed it immediately.

If this was all legal, why did DoJ Natl Security Division head John Carlin quit one day after certifying report that no FISA abuse occurred while NSA Director ADM Mike Rogers was briefing the FISA Court on abuse by the Obama Admin?

John Carlin reported directly to DAG Sally Yates who illegally prevented the DoJ OIG from overseeing and auditing any and all DoJ NATSEC Division activities, as described here. Sally Yates knowingly shielded the DoJ NATSEC Division from lawful DoJ OIG oversight to hide the crimes being committed – crimes she was directly involved in, such as the Carter Page FISA warrant and spying.

It’s easy to see the deception, fear, and agitation in Ben Rhodes stemming from that Farkas interview on MSNBC. He knows that the DoJ OIG, USA Huber, AG Barr, the NSA IG, and FISA court judges are all looking at everything outlined here. And Joe DiGenova has reported that the FISA court is working directly with DoJ and the DoJ OIG in criminal investigations of FISA abuse.

An important background note: all copies of that video interview, even excerpts, have been removed from Youtube, which is a large Obama and Democrat donor. Here’s the video of Farkas’s MSNBC interview that they’ve suppressed:

https://mobile.twitter.com/AKA_RealDirty/status/1178876507734847493

There are other legal concerns at present that the Obama White House and his high-level staff are currently very concerned about, such as DoJ and DHS re-opening of Project Cassandra and illegal action that were part of the Iran nuclear deal and so many more crimes. Please read this well-researched and documented article about how the Obama administration shielded Hezbollah, a deadly terrorist organization who has murdered hundreds of Americans from US criminal cases. The Obama administration stalled and killed Project Cassandra in an effort to move the Iran nuclear deal forward. Ben Rhodes played a key role in this, including later admitting he deliberately lied to the press and the American people to sell the deal.

It’s easy to see why Ben Rhodes is panicking these days. He’s not the only one. We see you Ben…and Susan and Samantha and Evelyn and Sally and…..

The Obama Administration cabal are watching the Ukraine events fold with great trepidation, I’m sure, as they surely must know that it’s their last attempt to sidetrack the DoJ investigation into the origins of the illegal counter-intel investigation into the Trump campaign. That investigation, when combined with the release of the DoJ IG report on FISA abuse, will be the old one-two punch that will knock ‘em all out. And I can’t wait! I wonder which of weakest of them will try to either turn on the rest of them or fly the coup. That day is coming fast! Lil Ben Rhodes and Evelyn Farkas are good candidates to be the first.

The end.

CNN simply has no shame left. That’s all I can figure at this point.

Andrew McCabe is currently under criminal investigation and it’s all but been confirmed that he will face prosecution in the near future. Despite all that, CNN continues to use him as an unbiased “analyst” commenting on the FBI. That’d be the same FBI he lied to multiple times, leading to his firing. You can’t make this stuff up.

But just when you thought it couldn’t get dumber, Brooke Baldwin brought McCabe on to trash “conspiracy theories” that include his actions, even though we know he did what he did and that it’s not a conspiracy theory. There just might be a conflict of interest there. I don’t know, just thinking out loud.

This is CNN (via The Federalist).

Baldwin asked McCabe why Attorney General William Barr is meeting with foreign counterparts to find out more about the hoax that duped the U.S. government into spending two years and millions of dollars unsuccessfully searching for Russian collusion with the Trump campaign to steal the 2016 election.

Well, if the guy who lied to the FBI multiple times testified to something, it must be true, right? And if you right a book, then that’s like double-super truth telling.
In regards to his assertion, it’s actually very much still a mystery because we do not know if there was even probable cause to do half the things they did in opening and conducting the investigation. What evidence were they using to take the unprecedented step of investigating the campaign of a current candidate for President? The most obvious answer is the garbage Steele dossier, but even if you buy the spin about Papadopoulos, questions remain there as well. Why was he invited to Italy? Why was he approached by several different assets working with the FBI? Was it a setup? There’s plenty there for Barr left to mine and McCabe clearly wants him to stop.

While being paid to talk on-air as a contracted CNN contributor, McCabe questioned the validity of an investigation into his and James Comey’ misconduct. McCabe is being investigated for repeatedly lying to the FBI’s inspector general about his decisions while at the FBI. Comey has been criticized by the Justice Department watchdog for violating FBI rules. Both are implicated in applications to a secret court to spy on the Trump campaign.

Think about this. CNN is paying a proven liar, who was fired from the FBI, to comment not just on the FBI, but the case against him. This is done not as an interviewee, but as a paid analyst.

Worse, Baldwin offers zero pushback on anything he says. She just sits there and nods along, as if there are no questions surrounding McCabe’s personal conduct. Then she points him to commenting on Barr looking into “Trump conspiracies,” even though McCabe has been shown to be at the center of many of the questionable actions at the FBI during his tenure and that much fo what they call “conspiracies” have been shown to have some basis in truth. At one point, it was a “conspiracy” to suggest the FBI had run assets against the Trump campaign. Now, they’ve admitted it. Same for the usage of the Steele dossier in the FISA warrants against Carter Page.

I think we’ve reached the point where literally anyone can be rehabilitated and handed a CNN gig as long as they parrot orange man bad enough. It’s both hilarious and sad.

GOP Congressional Leaders Demanding Answers on Hillary/Dems Soliciting Info From Ukraine During 2016 Election

Westlake Legal Group HillaryClinton-Severe GOP Congressional Leaders Demanding Answers on Hillary/Dems Soliciting Info From Ukraine During 2016 Election Uncategorized republicans Hillary Clinton Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post donald trump doj democrats Congress collusion biden

There has been some attention now paid to the Biden connections to Ukraine, and rightfully so.

But that’s not the only story out there involving the Democrats and Ukraine.

There’s the huge story hanging out there – what the Democrats and Hillary Clinton’s team allegedly did in soliciting Ukraine to undermine Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

Now, according to the Wall Street Journal, Republican Congressional leaders are demanding answers as to the status of the investigation.

In a letter released on Monday morning, Republican senators Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin ask U.S. Attorney General William Barr if he’s trying to answer the lingering questions:

We write to follow up on Senator Grassley’s July 20, 2017 letter, which highlighted brazen efforts by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign to use the government of Ukraine for the express purpose of finding negative information on then candidate Trump in order to undermine his campaign. That letter also highlighted news reports that, during the 2016 presidential election, “Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump” and did so by “disseminat[ing] documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggest[ing] they were investigating the matter[.]” Ukrainian officials also reportedly “helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers.”

It’s the height of hypocrisy for the past few years that Democrats have pushed the Russia collusion hoax without evidence of any conspiracy with Russia while there was this huge question of them getting information from Ukraine hanging out there.

The senators referenced reporting from Politico (not exactly a bastion of conservative thought), detailing what the Democrats allegedly did. Here’s more from the article:

They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found.

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia. But they were far less concerted or centrally directed than Russia’s alleged hacking and dissemination of Democratic emails.

Now there have been reports that U.S. Attorney John Durham was looking into this matter.

Part of a DOJ statement released in the last couple of days also tries to answer that question.

From Wall Street Journal:

“A Department of Justice team led by U.S. Attorney John Durham is separately exploring the extent to which a number of countries, including Ukraine, played a role in the counterintelligence investigation directed at the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. While the Attorney General has yet to contact Ukraine in connection with this investigation, certain Ukrainians who are not members of the government have volunteered information to Mr. Durham, which he is evaluating.”

Michael Mukasey, himself a former U.S. Attorney General, who wrote that last WSJ piece, says he has confidence in Durham and he teases, “Stay tuned.”

Sounds like the show coming might be worth the wait…

‘Resistance by Whistleblower’ was Always Part of the Plan

I came across a fascinating post today written by Legal Insurrection’s “New Neo,” who explains that the unprecedented resistance to the Trump presidency from the left is part of a plan that was hatched long before his Inauguration Day.

Whistle-blowing included.

He cites a Vanity Fair article that was published on February 1, 2017 entitled “An Anti-Trump Resistance Movement is Growing Within the U.S. Government.” It’s lede says, “The bureaucracy is fighting back.”

A U.S. diplomat in Africa told The New York Times that a “draft of a State Department letter of dissent had made its way through dozens of U.S. embassies abroad, accumulating hundreds of signatures from foreign service officers opposed to Donald Trump’s controversial executive order on immigration.” Within days, the draft contained over one thousand signatures.

Similar initiatives were taking place in other government agencies. Workers were simply refusing to carry out policies which they disagreed with. Recall the firing of acting Attorney General Sally Yates for her refusal to enforce the travel ban order. This was the start of the anti-Trump resistance movement.

The diplomat describes some of the tactics the resistance planned to use. He specifically mentions whistle-blowing and leaking to the press.

Others, however, view resistance as a part of the job. “Policy dissent is in our culture,” one diplomat in Africa, who signed the letter circulating among foreign diplomats, told The New York Times. “We even have awards for it,” this person added, in reference to the State Department’s “Constructive Dissent” award. One Justice Department employee told The Washington Post, “You’re going to see the bureaucrats using time to their advantage,” and added that “people here will resist and push back against orders they find unconscionable,” by whistle-blowing, leaking to the press, and lodging internal complaints. Others are staying in contact with officials appointed by President Obama to learn more about how they can undermine Trump’s agenda and attending workshops on how to effectively engage in civil disobedience, the Post reports.

In the next excerpt, an Obama State Department official tells a reporter he is entitled to defy Trump’s orders because he believes the President is a threat to national security.

When asked how the opposition emerging at this stage compares to past administrations, Tom Malinowski, who served as Obama’s assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor, sarcastically told the Post, “Is it unusual? There’s nothing unusual about the entire national security bureaucracy of the United States feeling like their commander in chief is a threat to U.S. national security. That happens all the time. It’s totally usual. Nothing to worry about.”

The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway understood from the beginning what was happening. On January 17th, 2017, she wrote:

Dwight Eisenhower warned that if we didn’t stay vigilant, the military-industrial complex would start creeping into politics with pernicious motives all its own. The intelligence community’s war of leaks against Trump before he’s even taken office is just the latest questionably politicized action in the decades since Eisenhower’s farewell address. And it’s safe to say that the intelligence community pushing unproven and absurd allegations about a president-elect’s sexual perversions is probably way worse than anything Ike imagined.

In order to understand how we got to this perilous place and get a handle on what’s going on, it’s worth taking a closer look at the motives and allegations of political operatives in intelligence agencies, as well as the basic timeline of allegations of Russian electoral interference in the last few months. Far from discrediting Trump, it paints a worrisome portrait of the deep state gone rogue, desperate to stop a man who, whatever his considerable flaws, is an outsider to Washington.

Early on, Democratic politicians and pundits were issuing warnings to Trump on how to behave in his dealings with the intelligence community. He was the duly elected President of the United States.

Hemingway cites Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s unforgettable advice to Trump. In an appearance on MSNBC, he told host Rachel Maddow:

…President-elect Donald Trump is “being really dumb” by taking on the intelligence community and its assessments on Russia’s cyber activities.

“Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Schumer told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

Members of the “elite” media felt the need to educate the incoming President as well:

Presidential historian Timothy Naftali said on a CNN panel that Trump should stay “silent” lest harmful information be released against him.

Never-Trumper David Frum tweeted, “CIA message to Trump: you mess with us, get ready for a leakstorm of Biblical proportions.”

It would appear that the left had a plan from the beginning. Perhaps not a formal, organized plan. But most of them decided that, since they and all of their friends felt Trump was not a legitimate President and did not belong in the White House, that they didn’t have to implement his policies or treat him with respect. Nothing was off-limits. No matter how egregious or outrageous their statements or actions, liberals could always find an audience to nod approvingly. Yes, we understand.

They all thought they had the power to drive him out of Washington. They have thrown everything they could possibly conceive of at this man and he’s not only standing, he’s thriving.

They may think they’ve finally cornered him this time. That’s laughable.

Hail to the Chief!

Graham: NY Times Is ‘Trying to Stop Barr’ From Investigating Russia Probe

Westlake Legal Group Screen-Shot-2019-10-01-at-3.24.25-PM-1 Graham: NY Times Is ‘Trying to Stop Barr’ From Investigating Russia Probe Russia collusion hoax Russia Lindsay Graham Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post donald trump doj democrats Congress bill barr

Screengrab from this Fox video.

Why does there suddenly seem to be a full-court press by Democrats and the media to denigrate Attorney General William Barr? The latest example being the NY Times story suggesting there was something wrong with Barr talking with Australian officials about the origins of the Russian probe.

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) appeared on “Hannity” last night and called it out, plain and simple. Relevant part starts at 1:42.

Graham said the NY Times story was the beginning of the effort to try to shut down Barr’s investigation. “I want to say on national television. Barr should be talking to Australia. He should be talking to Italy. He should be talking to the U.K. to find out if their intelligence services worked with our intelligence services improperly to open up a counter-intelligence investigation of Trump’s campaign,” Graham declared. “If he’s not doing that, he’s not doing his job.”

Then Graham 2.0 dropped the Trump card on Democratic hypocrisy.

He pulled out a letter from Democrats written in May, 2018 to Ukraine, which said that if they didn’t comply in the Mueller investigation, Democrats would withhold their aid. Graham questioned why Democrats thought that was “okay” to do in the investigation of President Donald Trump, but think it was not okay simply to ask for their help in the investigation of how the Russia probe started under the Obama administration.

“This is an attempt to stop Barr from finding out what happened in the 2016 campaign,” Graham said. “What are they afraid of? This really bothers me a lot if the NY Times is going to say there’s something wrong with talking to Australia, Italy and the United Kingdom.” Graham observed that if Democrats were truly concerned about foreign interference in the election they should be concerned about “Christopher Steele being hired by the Democratic party.” Steele, an anti-Trump British national, was the person who sought alleged Russian info to undermine Trump for the Democrats through Fusion GPS and Perkins Coie.

Earlier in the show, Sean Hannity observed how it was the Democrats who not only solicited Russian information through Christopher Steele, but they also solicited Ukraine to undermine the Trump campaign. They in fact succeeded in that, by tarring Paul Manafort and forcing his resignation, Hannity said.

Hannity pressed Graham as to when we’re going to get the results of the FISA investigation, noting Democrats didn’t care about interference through all their actions in 2016 between Russian and Ukraine info, even “screwing poor Bernie” in the primary.

Graham indicated during the interview that the FISA results were coming within two weeks.

The last nugget that Graham dropped was a great question. Who was the whistleblower, Graham asked, and would we find that he or she was somehow connected to this “old intelligence community” propagated by former CIA head John Brennan and former DNI James Clapper.

If that turns out to be the case, prepare for all kinds of explosion on the part of the GOP and Trump.

Good on Graham for blasting this for what it is. There is nothing wrong with what Barr is doing in investigating the origins of the Russia probe. Unless maybe you’re scared of being found out for doing illegal or improper things.

It’s shameful that the New York Times once again seems to be carrying water for the Democratic narrative.

NYT: Trump asked Australian PM to help DOJ investigation into Russiagate probe

Westlake Legal Group t-21 NYT: Trump asked Australian PM to help DOJ investigation into Russiagate probe Trump The Blog Scott Morrison probe origins mueller leader downer doj call barr Australia

It’s hard not to notice that these natsec news scoops are coming regularly now with John Bolton out of the White House, having been unceremoniously removed as NSA. Obviously he’s not responsible for every revelation; the whistleblower complaint was filed before he lost his job.

But some mighty high-level leaks are happening and Bolton is known for exacting revenge on his political enemies. The WSJ reported this afternoon that Mike Pompeo was on Trump’s call to Ukraine’s president on July 25, making him a figure of great interest to House Democrats. Now here comes the Times with a new scoop about another “recent” high-level conversation, this time between Trump and Australian prime minister Scott Morrison. And the source or sources in this case somehow knew that the transcript of the call with Morrison was tightly held, with only a few aides able to access it.

There’s no proof that Bolton’s involved. It’s just an … interesting coincidence, is all.

Reading the Times story, I wonder if the Senate GOP’s strategy on impeachment will be to simply play for time. Investigation-worthy stuff keeps dribbling out and meanwhile Trump himself keeps saying things that risk making his problems worse, like admitting to the media this afternoon that he’s trying to find out who the whistleblower is. Republican senators don’t want to have to vote on, or even comment on, any of this. If Pelosi drags her feet a bit on impeachment, expect McConnell and others to make the argument that we’re now so close to the election that it’d be unfair to deprive voters of the opportunity to issue a verdict on all this in November. Which, of course, is exactly why Pelosi wants to have impeachment done quickly. The sooner the ball is in the Senate’s court, the harder it is for McConnell to claim it’s too late to vote.

The White House restricted access to the call’s transcript to a small group of the president’s aides, one of the officials said, an unusual decision that is similar to the handling of a July call with the Ukrainian president that is at the heart of House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into Mr. Trump. Like that call, the discussion with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia shows the extent to which Mr. Trump sees the attorney general as a critical partner in his goal to show that the Mueller investigation had corrupt and partisan origins, and the extent that Mr. Trump sees the Justice Department inquiry as a potential way to gain leverage over America’s closest allies…

President Trump initiated the discussion in recent weeks with Mr. Morrison explicitly for the purpose of requesting Australia’s help in the Justice Department review of the Russia investigation, according to the two people with knowledge of the discussion. Mr. Barr requested that Mr. Trump speak to Mr. Morrison, one of the people said. It came only weeks after Mr. Trump seemed to make military aid to Ukraine contingent on Mr. Zelensky doing him the “favor” of helping Mr. Barr with his work…

In making the request, Mr. Trump was in effect asking the Australian government to investigate itself. The F.B.I.’s counterintelligence investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election began after Australian officials told the bureau that the Russian government had made overtures to the Trump campaign about releasing political damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

NBC confirmed that Trump spoke recently to Morrison about the Durham probe of Russiagate but “an administration official described the call as a routine call between two heads of state ahead of state seeking the assistance of another country’s law enforcement agency.” WaPo, meanwhile, is out with its own story confirming that Barr has taken an oddly hands-on approach to the Durham investigation, in some cases flying to countries like Italy to personally solicit assistance with it. Why he would do that knowing how Democrats will exploit his involvement to try to discredit the findings is unclear. The whole point of appointing a respected prosecutor like John Durham to find out how the Russiagate probe began was to try to keep political fingerprints off of it. And now here’s Barr, a figure whom Democrats loathe and have lambasted for seeming way too sympathetic to Trump’s narrative of Russiagate, inserting himself into the process.

But anyway. What’s tricky about the Times’s report of the Morrison call is that it’s easy to imagine Trump having an improper purpose but hard to see how he did anything improper. It’s natural to believe that the president was concerned first and foremost with himself and his reelection campaign in placing the call. The essence of his approach to life is to look out for number one, always and everywhere; that’s also what makes it so easy to believe that his pressure on Ukraine to open a Biden investigation was motivated by wanting to damage a political opponent, not some abstract concern with corruption by former U.S. officials. But the Ukraine call had shady business surrounding it — the sustained involvement of Trump’s private lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who was unaccountable to any federal agency, and of course the context of the hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. aid that Trump mysteriously blocked and only eventually released after pressure from Congress. There’s none of that here. The Durham probe is a legitimate DOJ inquiry and it’s DOJ officials who are involved in it. There’s no hint of Australia being threatened with anything if they refused to assist Trump either. There’s nothing objectively shady about the president asking a foreign head of state to help out the Justice Department.

The only clue that the White House itself viewed the call as sketchy is the bit about “restricted access” to the transcript. Although Trump would doubtless say that this Times story proves the virtue of restricting that access in the first place: Since the media’s bound to fly off the handle about even appropriate requests, it’s better to just try to keep them secret.

In other impeachment news this afternoon, Adam Schiff has formally subpoenaed Ukraine documents from Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani told ABC yesterday that he won’t cooperate with Schiff but Rudy says a lot of things that he ends up contradicting later. I’m already gaming out the inevitable sequence of events to come: Rudy refuses to comply with the subpoena, claiming attorney/client privilege; Democrats remind him that he’s already said he wasn’t serving Trump as an attorney in conducting his Ukraine business; Rudy continues to refuse; Democrats hold him in contempt; Trump pardons Giuliani; and then we have a fun Supreme Court fight over whether the constitutional limitation on the president’s pardon power (“in cases of impeachment”) means he can’t pardon *anyone* connected to an impeachment investigation, like Rudy, or whether it merely means that he can’t pardon *himself.*

Here’s Trump digging himself deeper in a hole today.
