Clinton Ally Allegedly Tried to Stop Book About Russia Probe and Dem Involvement

The Clintons have a reputation for not holding back when it comes to people who cross them.

The latest report wouldn’t disabuse you from that belief.

According to a Fox News report, Hillary Clinton adviser Sidney Blumenthal allegedly made legal threats to the publisher of the new book about the Democratic connection to the origins of the Russia probe in an effort to shut the book down.

According to the Fox source, Blumenthal believes that the book, “The Plot Against the President: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in U.S. History,” by Lee Smith, is defamatory.

“Blumenthal tried to stop it from being published,” the source told Fox News, saying the Hillary Clinton confidant sent threatening letters to Smith and publisher Center Street, a division of Hachette Book Group.

Blumenthal didn’t respond to Fox.

If Blumenthal is that worked up about it, that’s probably the greatest ad for the book, as well as a good indication that something in the book is probably over the target.

The book delves into the involvement of Democratic operatives behind the unverified anti-Trump Steele dossier. The Clinton campaign and the DNC engaged Perkins Coie to pay Fusion GPS for the information that became the dossier. The dossier, which was opposition research, was then essentially weaponized when it made its way to the FBI and the media and undermined Donald Trump.

According to the source, “the Clinton machine wanted to intimidate Lee,” but it doesn’t sound like he or the publishers are intimidated. The publishers don’t think Blumenthal’s threats hold any merit and they intend to go ahead with the book release, scheduled for Tuesday. Smith, while not discussing whether or not there were any threats, told Fox, “People in the Clinton world are keen for this book not to come out.”

Blumnenthal’s name has been attached to the dossier in the past by former House Intelligence Committee Chair Trey Gowdy according to the Washington Examiner.

“I have seen each factual assertion listed in that dossier, and then I’ve seen the FBI’s justification. And when you’re citing newspaper articles as corroboration for a factual assertion that you have made, you don’t need an FBI agent to go do a Google search,” said Gowdy, a former South Carolina congressman and member of the House Intelligence Committee, in a Fox News interview.

“And when the name Sidney Blumenthal is included as part of your corroboration, and you’re the world’s leading law enforcement agency, you have a problem,” Gowdy said.

A little Saturday discomfort for you.

James Clapper, who is a paid shill over at CNN now, was brought on to his own network by Anderson Cooper to comment on an investigation he’s the target off. If you think that probably doesn’t match up with journalistic ethics, you are probably right. But this is the same network that brought on Andrew McCabe the same day to talk about this topic without even disclosing he’s suing the DOJ and is also a target. So ethics aren’t much of a thing over there.

Cooper starts to toss softballs at Clapper and he becomes visibly shaken, saying he doesn’t understand why he’s under investigation. For context, Clapper had only found out about the criminal investigation 20 minutes prior to this hit.

The eyes are darting, he’s stumbling over his words. “Uh, uh, uh” can be heard multiple times. This is a guy who’s not comfortable in his own skin right now. I can imagine I wouldn’t feel too chipper commenting on national TV about the DOJ investigating me as well.

Let me point a few things out.

One, the idea that this investigation is politically timed is nonsense. Clapper makes that assertion and Cooper offers zero push back because of course he doesn’t. The reality is that the Durham investigation started long before impeachment fever 2019. And the escalation to a criminal investigation follows the finishing of a years in the making IG report, not the impeachment inquiry. If anything, the timing of the whistle-blower and Schiff’s circus seem far more politically timed than the investigations that predate it.

Two, Clapper knows exactly why he’s under investigation. He has always been suspected of leaking the classified briefing given to Donald Trump on the Steele dossier to CNN. I wrote an entire piece several months ago about Jake Tapper’s denials not adding up on the matter. There are some serious questions and inconsistencies there. There’s also the fact that Clapper probably lied about his knowledge of the investigation. The idea that he didn’t even know it existed prior to Trump taking office doesn’t begin to pass the smell test. We have texts from Peter Stzok and Lisa Page saying that everything was being run from the White House. Clapper was the ODNI in that administration. He knew.

CNN continues to be a joke by employing Clapper as an unbiased analyst, but that’s not surprise to anyone. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying seeing these guys squirm a bit now that the shoe is on the other foot.

There’s noway this is a coincidence. The day after news breaks that Bill Barr and John Durham have elevated their probe into the Russia investigation into a criminal investigation, Andrew McCabe has now filed a motion to dismiss his lawsuit.

This smells like him not wanting to keep kicking the hornets nest. He’s unlikely to get any leniency in his coming prosecution (which has reported as coming last month) if he’s suing the DOJ.

I can’t imagine the suckers who handed this guy over $500,000 through a GoFundMe feel too good about their investment. It’ll now be used to defend him in criminal court, not to teach Bill Barr a lesson in civil court.

Democrats Soil Themselves At News of the Barr-Durham Criminal Investigation

As I reported yesterday, the Barr-Durham probe into the origins of the Russia investigation has now transitioned into a full blown criminal investigation. What this means is the ability to compel testimony, empanel a grand jury, and subpoena documents. Before this change, cooperation was essentially voluntary.

There are some dots to connect here, which while still speculative, are becoming clearer as the days pass. This change to a criminal investigation came at exactly the same time the Inspector General announced his report was nearly ready for release. It’s fair to assume that it likely contains some criminal referrals. There’s also the news that broke earlier today that Lisa Page helped edit and retroactively date Flynn’s interview 302s. Was something illegal done with that? To the layman, it certainly seems improper and it’s a trail that will likely be followed.

Aside from the details, much of which have been reported by RedState over the past few days, one of the more humorous aspects of all this is seeing Democrats begin to soil themselves at the thought of possible corruption dealing with the Trump-Russia investigation.

Let’s start with the committee chairs at the forefront right now.

Yes, that’s Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff, who are currently leading highly partisan investigations of the President complaining that Bill Barr is somehow a partisan. Keep in mind as well that John Durham is Barr’s top guy here and that he was appointed by Eric Holder to prosecute torture cases. He’s also got a history of mob busting. In other words, Durham is as far from a partisan as you’ll find at the DOJ. Democrats are purposely not attacking him directly, instead going after Barr, but the fact is that Durham is the one running this investigation on the ground.

Mark Warner, also known as Republican Sen. Burr’s boss, chimed in.

Notice the indication here that corruption should be brushed aside because it may somehow jeopardize “key international intelligence partnership.” He doesn’t expound of course, but his complaint seems rather hollow. If those partnerships include foul behavior, then they need to be jeopardized and if they are so weak that they can’t simply answer questions, then they weren’t worth much to begin with.

Barr has been before Congress many times. I’m sure he’d be happy to go again and embarrass those questioning him.

Here’s Dick Blumenthal, famous for lying about his service in Vietnam, ranting a bit.

Are you starting to see the trend? These people are nervous and their responses actually may be changing my mind a bit about whether something is going to come from this. People are starting to lawyer up and the political ramifications are obviously not good for Democrats. I do not think Durham would have moved to a criminal investigation if he didn’t have evidence in hand.

I’m old enough to remember when Democrats loved investigations until they suddenly didn’t. Many are on record asserting that if someone has nothing to hide, they should welcome being investigated. That was a very common theme throughout the Mueller ordeal. Now that the Obama administration is the target, including figures like Brennan, Clapper, and Comey, the flailing and consternation has begun.

The media are obviously losing it as well, doing their level best to the lay the groundwork for an “improper bias” narrative involving Barr’s work. You could see that in the Times report on this change last night. It’s all nonsense and should be ignored. While the left are going to do everything they can to muddy the waters, a lot of people are sleeping a little worse tonight.

Yesterday, we got a hilariously bad piece from Fusion GPS’ number one reporter. I say that with the admission that Ken Dilanian might still be fighting for the title but I think Bertrand has him beat lately. It’s like the Cuomo brothers. Andrew is bad, but come on, we all know Fredo is the dumber one.

This is the second clearly telegraphed Fusion GPS propaganda piece Bertrand has pushed out in as many weeks.

RedState’s Sarah Lee first covered it yesterday, focusing on the ridiculous notion that Brennan is just an innocent bystander, being targeted by an obsessed President. I mean, it’s not like Brennan was at the genesis of the Russia probe, lied about his knowledge on national TV, and spent the last three years ranting hysterically about Trump being a traitor. I can’t imagine why John Durham might be looking into this guy.

Politico even suggested that the focus on Brennan was somehow an offshoot of the Trump administration’s “blurring” of the lines between politics and law enforcement.

There’s so much projection in this article, i.e. accusing the DOJ and Trump of doing things the Democrats already did in the later stages of the Obama administration and throughout the Mueller probe. Bertrand either has no self-awareness or she just doesn’t care. Probably the latter.

But I want to focus on two key details she completely whiffed on because they kind of matter. At one point, Bertrand makes this claim.

Brennan allies and skeptics of the Durham investigation note that the CIA played no role in the probe involving Americans, and was narrowly focused on determining Russian President Vladimir Putin’s motivations and how the Kremlin was carrying out its election attack in 2016.

You know who that’s news to? John Brennan.

Brennan admitted in open testimony that he was looking into “US persons.” Further, we know Brennan was at the genesis of the entire Russia probe, including helping kickstart it within the Obama administration. He was doing all this while CIA Director, an agency that is expressly forbidden from targeting Americans. Further, there’s plenty of reason to suspect that the CIA had a hand in the now proven action of running assets against several Trump campaign associates.

You can read a deeper dive into Joseph Misfud’s probable CIA ties in this article. There’s a reason the media who’ve been towing the line for Brennan are now in panic mode.

Bertrand didn’t stop there though. She then made another unbelievably false claim in an attempt to try to paint Republicans as pushing conspiracy theories.

Asked for comment, White House deputy press Secretary Hogan Gidley said: “John Brennan lied before Congress when he got caught spying on American citizens and lied about having Russian collusion evidence that never existed. The only way I’ve ever heard anyone in the White House mention him is as a punchline.”

It’s not clear what Gidley was referring to—Brennan has not been accused of lying to Congress.

A quick google search would have shown Bertrand how laughable wrong that claim is, but apparently she doesn’t even bother to fact-check whatever Glenn Simpson is shoveling her on any given day. Brennan was not only accused of lying to Congress about spying on Senate members, he ended up admitting it.

This kind of nonsense is treated as “journalism” within the mainstream. At first I figured she just wanted “scoops” to elevate her career. Now, I wonder if Fusion GPS isn’t paying her directly. Anytime there’s any possible damaging information on the horizon for Brennan, the Russia Probe, etc. Bertrand is always there to spout the talking points of the other side. She does so uncritically, and as I’ve shown here, often falsely.

John Brennan is nervous. It’s obvious and no amount of Politico articles from friendly reporters is going to change the facts on the ground. We were told for years that if someone has nothing to hide, they should welcome an investigation. Well, here’s Brennan’s chance to be consistent.

Flop Sweat Builds As It Sure Looks Like the Barr-Durham Probe Is Now a Criminal Investigation

Brennan said that the Islamic State remains “formidable” and “resilient,” is training and attempting to deploy operatives for further attacks on the West and will rely more on guerrilla-style tactics to compensate for its territorial losses in the Middle East. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

Yesterday, RedState via Elizabeth Vaughn shared the news that Durham had further expanded his investigation to include James Clapper and John Brennan. This of course left Brennan flailing about wildly, wondering why the DOJ would even be interested in him.

John Brennan told NBC that Durham’s investigation is “bizarre” and said, “I don’t know what the legal basis for this is.” He doesn’t? Let me refresh his memory.

Brennan’s obsessive fear that Donald Trump might win the presidency may have instigated the whole collusion narrative. He didn’t have to twist many arms to bring others on board, but his exhaustive search for “dirt” on Trump and his insistence that the FBI open a counterintelligence investigation was key.

That news came on the heels of another report I wrote on a week earlier in which it was confirmed that Barr had expanded his reach past just FISA abuse.

However, based on what he has been finding, Durham has expanded his investigation adding agents and resources, the senior administration officials said. The timeline has grown from the beginning of the probe through the election and now has included a post-election timeline through the spring of 2017, up to when Robert Mueller was named special counsel.

With the latest report, there are a few things happening that make me think this isn’t just window dressing. In fact, I think it has morphed into a full blown criminal investigation.

Note that they’ve moved past looking at process arguments involving FISA and are now targeting specific people. Brennan and Clapper are both going to be interviewed, along with the other analysts involved in Brennan’s much ballyhooed report on Russian interference. It always appeared that the Obama administration threw that report together, lacking much of any evidence, to throw Trump’s presidency into chaos.

Further, officials within these agencies are now scrambling to lawyer up and that’s never a sign things are going well for those involved.

Durham has also requested to talk to CIA analysts involved in the intelligence assessment of Russia’s activities, prompting some of them to hire lawyers, according to three former CIA officials familiar with the matter. And there is tension between the CIA and the Justice Department over what classified documents Durham can examine, two people familiar with the matter said.

It certainly appears that Barr has progressed this into a full blown criminal investigation and that has the media scrambling.

Oh, now they are concerned with whether there’s a factual basis for an investigation? I’m sure Donald Trump would be interested in the genesis of this new rule. It’s amazing to behold the lack of self-awareness some of these outlets lack. They spent over two years rattling about Russian collusion, something we found out held no basis in fact, but now they question with a straight face whether an investigation of that process is legitimate?

And here’s Brennan’s MSNBC buddy (Brennan is a paid contributor at the network) feeling a sudden tightening on his backside.

That’s called projection boys and girls.

The idea that Bill Barr, who has shown himself to be an incredibly smart and tough figure while Attorney General, is going to be be thrown in jail once he leaves office is laughable. You can bet he’s not letting one single detail slip here and the DOJ has an absolute right to investigate corruption within their ranks. It’s not Barr who needs to lawyer up and that’s shown by the fact that it’s those he’s investigating that are running to K Street right now.

Ed Morrisey notes this over at HotAir.

The point about hiring lawyers is especially interesting. The DoJ made sure to note at the beginning that Durham was conducting an internal review, not a criminal investigation, although there was nothing to prevent it from developing into one. The DoJ does not comment on the existence of criminal investigations until they either close one or get an indictment — with a couple of notable James Comey-related exceptions — and they’re not talking now, either. These developments, however, make it look like Durham has turned the corner from review to full-blown criminal investigation.

We’ve always know the IG report from Horowitz was going to be toothless. He can’t even interview people who’ve already left government, so how exactly was he going to get to the bottom of what Brennan, Clapper, Comey, etc. did? But Barr has the power of the judicial system behind him. He can force these people to all sit for interviews, and while Comey may be sly enough to avoid trouble, Brennan is basically a stump with legs.

We’ll see where all this goes. The fact that Barr and Durham are not wrapping this up but are continuing to expand and target specific people is a bad sign for those who helped perpetrate the Russian collusion hoax.

State Dept Concludes Investigation Into Clinton Server, Finds Almost 600 Security Violations

Screengrab from https://youtu.be/Lp41DKd5w5g

You may not have known, but there was still an investigation going on into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

The State Department was conducting their own review of what was done with Clinton’s private email server and their Bureau of Diplomatic Security has now concluded that there were 588 security violations of the Department’s policy.

Clinton sent or received more than 60,000 emails on her private server. While the FBI and James Comey found that she had in fact sent and/or received classified information, including top secret information, among those emails, he declined to prosecute her, instead simply calling her “extremely careless.”

Indeed. That’s one way of putting it.

According to the Daily Caller, after reviewing all the emails, getting hundreds of statements and doing dozens of interviews, the State Department investigation concluded that the use of the server to do State Department business “represented an increased risk of unauthorized disclosure” and that it “added an increased degree of risk of compromise as a private system lacks the network monitoring and intrusion detection capabilities of State Department networks.”

The report found that 38 individuals were responsible for 91 of the security violations. But for 497 of the violations they did not assign culpability because of the duration of the investigation and many of the subjects having left the State Department.

So what does that leave us with?

Thousands of hours of investigation, another finding that shows wrongdoing, but does that mean anyone at all will be punished?

Obviously for 497 violations, waiting too long means those folks don’t get punished.

But even for the 91 they did pin on someone, they haven’t named those people in the report, or even identified what if any punishment those folks will be receiving for their security violations. Or whether there should be criminal actions recommended for any of those instances.

This was typical for so many scandals of the Obama administration. Clear evidence of wrongdoing. Yet never any punishment, which allows them to try to spin to this day “we had no scandals.” No, what you had were lots of scandals, just never any punishment for any of them.

Media and those on the left are already giving the kindest spin to it.

Yes, the report does say it wasn’t “systemic mishandling of classified information” but obviously that’s an incredibly generous gift in a situation where they also find hundreds of security violations. But that’s the hook media needs to dismiss it as the responses to Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Epstein’s tweet show.

Apparently doing State Department business completely on a private server exposing it to compromise with hundreds of violations, sending and receiving classified information isn’t a “systemic” mishandling. Please.

James Comey Was Spying On Loretta Lynch

(AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)

James Comey really had a thing for spying on people I guess. But don’t call it spying. Call it “human surveillance” so as not to offend the sensibilities of the media.

A new report has come out, based on a coming book by Pulitzer winning journalist James B. Stewart, in which it is revealed that former FBI Dir. Comey had a high level informant placed inside then Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s office.

This via The New York Post.

Lynch had made major career advances in the 1990s under President Bill Clinton — and her boss, President Barack Obama, plainly supported Hillary’s candidacy. Plus, Obama was also implicated in the scandal, since he’d exchanged multiple emails with Clinton at her non-government address — a fact they were all keeping from the public.

Stewart reports that Comey’s “highly placed informant” indicated that Lynch wouldn’t let the FBI investigation add to Clinton’s woes. An email reportedly from the head of the Democratic National Committee assured a civilian that “Lynch wouldn’t let the Clinton investigation get very far, suggesting that Lynch would protect Clinton,” Stewart writes.

There are two parts to this. One, the fact that Comey was running an informant against his own boss (the DOJ oversees the FBI) is pretty shocking. This guy apparently just had no boundaries at all. It’s like he was trying to be a the modern day J. Edgar Hoover but without the secret sex life.

The other, perhaps more newsworthy aspect of this is that Lynch was sandbagging the investigation to help Clinton. That’s been long suspected and multiple pieces of evidence have come out over the years pointing that direction. This may be the most direct accusation yet and it matches up exactly with what transpired. While Lynch claimed she was sitting on the sidelines, essentially recused without being recused, she knew the decision to not go after Hillary had already been passed down by her own DOJ. The game was rigged even while she was smiling for the cameras and claiming she’d do whatever the FBI wanted.

At this point, all these revelations are more intriguing that actionable. It’s not illegal for Comey to do what he did and Lynch is certainly not a sympathetic character herself. WHat it does show is just how underhanded these people were. Power was simply something to be abused and politics played a central role in many things they did.

Mueller Was Pursuing FBI Director Job When He Met With Trump, Contrary to What He Testified to Congress, Admin Officials Say

This latest report could spell big trouble for former Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Fox is reporting that multiple administration officials are saying that when Mueller met with President Donald Trump in May 2017, he was in fact pursuing the job as FBI Director.

Problem with this?

Mueller denied this under oath when he testified before Congress this year about his investigation. When he testified on July 24, Mueller claimed he thought that he was just being asked by Trump about what was needed in a candidate for the job. “My understanding was I was not applying for the job,” Mueller testified on July 24. “I was asked to give my input on what it would take to do the job.” Mueller had served as FBI Director under Barack Obama and under George W. Bush.

According to the officials talking to Fox, there are government documents, however, showing he was seeking the job.

There’s more.

According to emails obtained by Judicial Watch, it appears that he may have known he was also being considered for the Special Counsel position if he didn’t get the job as the FBI Director.

“The boss and his staff do not know about our discussions,” then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said in an email to Mueller on May 12, 2017. Rosenstein’s boss was then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had recused himself from the Russia probe, meaning the president would not have known either.

A source close to Rosenstein confirmed to Fox News that he had confidential conversations with Mueller about whether he would be willing to serve in the event he needed to appoint a special counsel. These conversations began on May 12, 2017, prior to Mueller’s meeting with the president on May 16, 2017, the source acknowledged.

Trump has said repeatedly that Mueller interviewed for the job, didn’t get it and therefore it was a conflict for him to be Special Counsel.

According to Fox, Trump has also indicated that there were other witnesses to the meeting including the Vice President, Mike Pence.

“It has been reported that Robert Mueller is saying that he did not apply and interview for the job of FBI Director (and get turned down) the day before he was wrongfully appointed Special Counsel” Trump tweeted the day of Mueller’s Capitol Hill testimony. “Hope he doesn’t say that under oath in that we have numerous witnesses to the interview, including the Vice President of the United States!”

According to Fox, John Dowd, the president’s attorney, blasted Mueller, calling his conduct “most dishonorable” he had “ever witnessed” because he knew as he was being interviewed that if he didn’t get the job he was going to investigate Trump.

Mueller has gone back into private practice, rejoining his old firm, WilmerHale.

But it will be interesting to see what if anything Congress does in response to this report.

Back in early 2018, as the text messages between adulterous FBI lovebirds, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, became the stuff of late night television gags (or would have been had late night comedy been suffering from Stage 5 TDS and was only capable of chanting “OrangeManBad”) several senior FBI personnel bailed out or were defenstrated:

Two more senior government officials who were prominently discussed in text messages exchanged by FBI personnel formerly assigned to the Trump-Russia investigation are leaving their positions.

Mike Kortan, FBI assistant director for public affairs, is set to retire next week, an FBI spokeswoman confirmed. In addition, the chief of the Justice Department’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, David Laufman, resigned this week, a department spokesman said.

The list of officials frequently discussed in the texts who are no longer in their jobs seems to grow by the day. It includes former FBI Director James Comey, who was fired by Trump; former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe; Comey’s chief of staff, James Rybicki; FBI General Counsel James Baker; as well as Strzok, who was booted off the special counsel investigation and sent to a job in the FBI’s personnel division.

At the time this was all hinted at being the move of men with “muh principles” of the highest order refusing to serve the lawless Trump.

Now some more light has been shined upon at least one of the cases.

The FBI’s top press officer during the Hillary Clinton and Trump-Russia investigations accepted tickets to a Washington Nationals game from a CNN correspondent and lied about it repeatedly during interviews with the Justice Department’s inspector general, according to a report obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Kortan accepted Nationals tickets from the reporter at least twice, for a May 9, 2016 game and another on Sept. 30, 2016. He also accepted tickets from a New York Times reporter in either 2014 or 2016.

The OIG report cites text messages which indicate that the FBI official attended the May 9, 2016 game with the reporter. The reporter contacted Kortan on Sept. 27, 2016, offering up four tickets.

“Nats v Marlins Friday night. I have to be away,” the reporter wrote on Sept. 27, 2016. “Can you use four tix?”

“I’m good for 2 tix if that’s OK,” replied Kortan.

Kortan initially told investigators with the OIG in a March 29, 2017 interview, that he reimbursed the reporter for the tickets, and denied accepting any gifts from members of the press.

“Kortan described the CNN correspondent as one of his ‘top five’ contacts with the press as part of his job,” the report says. Kortan denied having a personal relationship with any of the reporters, saying that he didn’t “consider anybody a friend.” (RELATED: Strzok Text Messages Shed Light On FBI Interactions With The Media)

He also said that he had “probably daily contact” with the CNN reporter to discuss “the news of the day.”

When asked whether he paid for the tickets, Kortan was initially adamant that he did.

“I have never accepted them without reimbursement,” he said in the March 29, 2017 interview, referring to the tickets. “I always reimburse the amount of the ticket as a routine, just because I do.”

But he was actually a lying sack of ordure which the IG discovered by observing that his lips were moving actually visiting the ball park and finding the tickets were in a reserved section.

Like with McCabe, this simply underscores the two-tiered justice system in this country. The elites can break laws with impunity in regards to the handling of classified information or taking bribes and nothing happens. But if you, Joe Citizen, does the same you will be hammered and DOJ will issue a press release spelling out your crimes against the Republic. In this case, despite (or because) of the fact that he was a senior executive who knew better, and who lied on multiple occasions, Kortan was allowed to retire with full benefits. The case was referred to Department of Justice Criminal Division and they declined to prosecute.

At some point, someone needs to remind these people that they are servants, not masters, of the people and the weight of the judicial system should fall much more heavily upon an FBI agent how tells multiple lies to investigators to cover up illegal acts than it should on some run of the mill street criminal.
