Authorities seized more than a thousand guns from a large Los Angeles home after getting an anonymous tip regarding illegal firearms sales in a posh area near the Playboy Mansion.

Officials say Los Angeles police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives served a search warrant around 4 a.m. Wednesday at the property on the border of the Bel Air and Holmby Hills neighborhoods.

The ATF says guns were recovered along with weapons manufacturing equipment and tools. Authorities say there is no danger to the public.

Photos from the scene showed stacks of hundreds of rifles and handguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Police officials say the investigation is ongoing in the hillside area where homes typically sell for millions of dollars.

The Latest: High school senior freed, future uncertain

The Latest on a high school senior arrested on immigration charges weeks before graduation. (all times local):

Federal officials have confirmed that a high school senior set to graduate in weeks has been freed from immigration lockup, but say his future in the U.S. remains uncertain.

ICE spokeswoman Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe said Wednesday that 18-year-old Thomas Torres has been freed from custody but an immigration judge will decide whether he has legal basis to remain the country.

It is unclear if Torres will graduate from a Tucson high school on May 22 as scheduled.

He has lived in the US since being brought here as a small boy.

Torres’ detention last week prompted about 120 classmates to protest outside the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies contacted the Border Patrol on Thursday after Torres admitted during a traffic stop that he was in the U.S. illegally.

Thomas Torres has stayed with Lorena Rodriguez’s family during his years at Desert View High School. Rodriguez is announcing the 18-year-old’s release on her Facebook page, saying “OPERATION THOMAS COMPLETE!”

But the circumstances of Torres’ Tuesday release are unclear, including whether he’ll graduate May 22 as scheduled.

The Latest: Heavy rain causes Texas road closings, rescues

Westlake Legal Group the-latest-heavy-rain-causes-texas-road-closings-rescues The Latest: Heavy rain causes Texas road closings, rescues Houston fox-news/us/education fnc/us fnc Associated Press article 0bd3b254-bc53-51f2-bd15-66c00b610530

The Latest on heavy rain reported across much of Texas (all times local):

6 p.m.

Heavy rain reported across much of northern, western and central Texas caused widespread road closings and scattered reports of high-water rescues.

In the West Texas town of Merkel, about 15 miles (25 kilometers) west of Abilene, Police Chief Phillip Conklin told KTXS-TV of Abilene that seven people were rescued Wednesday from floodwaters. Three were rescued from an apartment complex, two from flood-stranded vehicles and a couple from their home.

Flash floodwaters washed out a Texas Pacifico Transportation railroad track near Mertzon, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of San Angelo in West Texas.

Thunderstorms in the Panhandle prompted scattered reports to the National Weather Services of funnel clouds, but no tornadoes were reported.

___

10:01 a.m.

Dozens of students in the Houston area had to spend the night at school after flooded roads prevented buses from leaving and parents from reaching their children.

Most of the approximately 1,500 students at an elementary school in Cleveland, northeast of Houston, were able to leave by the end of the day after being stranded for a time Tuesday as up to 10 inches (254 millimeters) of rain swamped the region. However, the school district says about 60 students stayed overnight.

The downpour brought flooding to schools and homes as emergency personnel worked into the night to evacuate people.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings. It warned that storms could continue to batter the state’s Gulf Coast with rain later into the week.

Voters in Denver, Colorado decided on Tuesday to decriminalize psilocybin, or “magic mushrooms,” by a thin margin.

The initiative, led by Decriminalize Denver, passed by 1,979 votes when the voting tallies for Initiated Ordinate 301 were released on Wednesday.

TWO-THIRDS OF AMERICANS BLAME DRUG COMPANIES FOR OPIOID CRISIS, NEW POLL SAYS

According to online results from the Denver Elections Division, 89,320 people voted in favor of decriminalizing, while 87,341 others voted against it. Election officials said on Twitter that the “results remain unofficial” until they are certified on May 16.

The measure makes the personal use and possession of psilocybin mushrooms by those 21 years of age or older Denver’s “lowest law-enforcement priority,” according to the measure’s language. It does not legalize psilocybin or permit its sale by Denver’s cannabis businesses.

Psilocybin is a “hallucinogenic chemical obtained from certain types of fresh and dried mushrooms.” Federally illegal in the U.S. since 1968, psilocybin is categorized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) under “Schedule I,” along with drugs like heroin, marijuana and LSD.

Medical researchers have found the substance can be used to help treat anxiety and depression in cancer patients. Those studies were small and closely supervised but the preliminary results gave researchers hope that psychedelic drugs could also be used to treat cancer, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Young Marine hopeful helped stop Colorado school shooting that left 1 dead, 8 injured

A student who helped subdue one of the Colorado school shooters is a member of the Marines’ Delayed Entry Program, the U.S. Marine Corps said Wednesday.

The Marines said the student, Brendan Bialy, put his own safety at risk and showed “courage and commitment” in helping tackle a gunman in the STEM School in the south Denver suburbs.

At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Bialy said he tackled the gunman and fought back out of pure instinct.

He said he refused to be a victim, and he has been getting online gratitude from as far away as Ireland.

“The United States Marine Corps has confirmed that Brendan Bialy, a current poolee in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program (DEP), assisted in subduing an active shooter at STEM School Highlands Ranch on May 7, 2019,” Capt. Michael Maggitti said in a statement. “Brendan’s courage and commitment to swiftly ending this tragic incident at the risk of his own safety is admirable and inspiring. His decisive actions resulted in the safety and protection of his teachers and fellow classmates. Brendan joined the DEP July 12, 2018 out of Recruiting Sub-station Parker, CO, and is scheduled to ship to recruit training this summer.”

TUCKER CARLSON: REP. BRIAN SIMS IS A FROTHING EXTREMIST — AND A TOTALLY MAINSTREAM FIGURE IN TODAY’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY

The Delayed Entry Program allows prospective Marines to sign up days or months before they start training.

Fox 31 reported that Bialy is to begin training this summer.

Maggitti said Bialy was not injured.

Authorities said 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo was killed after he lunged at one of the shooters. Eight other students were injured.

Authorities said one of the suspects is 18-year-old Devon Erickson, a student at the STEM School Highlands Ranch where Tuesday’s shootings occurred. They said the second suspect is a juvenile who also attended the school. Authorities said the two students used at least two handguns.

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said the suspects had a “number of weapons” in Tuesday’s shooting including two handguns, which he said they weren’t old enough to buy or own.

More than 100,000 migrants were apprehended or turned away at the southern U.S. border with Mexico in April for the second month in a row, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Wednesday.

In the figures released by immigration officials, 109,144 people were encountered trying to enter the U.S. illegally last month. Of those trying to cross, 58,474 were with families, and 8,897 were unaccompanied children.

Another 31,606 were single adults, according to border patrol numbers. Of the nearly 110,000, 10,167 people were turned away at ports of entry, as they were deemed “inadmissible” by immigration authorities.

Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost told senators on Wednesday that apprehension numbers were “off the charts,” and she’s had to divert agents to care for children.

Provost said that shifting resources elsewhere won’t address the crisis. She added she’s worried about drugs and other contraband that’s getting through as resources are shifting to caring for children.

In March, CBP said that 103,719 people were turned away or apprehended at the southern border.

The agency said on Twitter Wednesday that, “As of Sunday, only 7 months into the fiscal year, #BorderPatrol has surpassed the TOTAL Southwest border apprehensions of every fiscal year since 2009.”

President Trump recently announced that Mark Morgan, the former head of Border Patrol under President Barack Obama, will take over as head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement after former acting ICE Director Ronald Vitiello resigned last month.

Georgia child finds $40G of meth in box of Legos: officials

Investigators with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia said a child found something other than a messy pile of colorful plastic bits in a gift from his mom. He discovered 3.2 pounds of methamphetamine — street value, $40,000 — tucked into what appeared to be an ordinary box of Legos.

Investigator Jim Riggs with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News that a Statesboro, Ga., mother and a couple of her friends drove for about two hours to Charleston, S.C., where they bought the Legos from a consignment shop.

He said when the women returned from the trip and the mother gave her child the toy, there were no Legos to be found inside the container.

What there was, however, was a “big bag of meth.”

“The methamphetamine inside of the box was vacuum sealed, and that keeps it from moving around too much and also helps mask the smell,” said Riggs. He said this was the first time his office had made such a find, “especially in this quantity.”

“On top of the box itself, the Lego box was shrink-wrapped, which is the typical wrapping you find on a toy box or something coming from the factory,” Riggs said. “It was professionally done. It looked like you went to a regular retail store and purchased the box.”

He added, “Somebody took the time to cover the tracks, most definitely.”

Riggs told Fox News the child’s father called the sheriff’s office and told deputies he suspected the box contained illicit drugs.

Riggs said that once the sheriff’s office “field tested” the substance, the results came back positive for meth. The office then contacted the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Charleston, and it was determined that the consignment shop was itself not involved.

Riggs said the owner of the consignment shop told authorities the person who sold her the Legos said they’d been bought at a local auction.

Authorities suspect the package “was delivered to an address, probably a false address, or an abandoned house,” Riggs said.

Riggs said he thinks that “when a mailman got there and determined it was a false address he took it back with him and put it in a pile of undelivered mail and a lot of times those items are put up for auction if there’s no way to return those items.”

ALYSSA MILANO, 49 CELEBRITIES THREATEN GEORGIA WITH ‘LOSS OF BILLIONS’ OVER NEW ABORTION BILL

Riggs said the women who bought the toy box were fortunate they did not encounter law enforcement on their two-hour drive back to Georgia.

“If the ladies would have been stopped on their way from Charleston to Statesboro by law enforcement, and the methamphetamine would have been found, there would have been a lot of explaining to do. It would have been a bad scene,” Riggs said.

As it stands, the mom, her friends and the consignment shop owner have all cooperated with the investigation.

And an actual culprit? “It would be near impossible to find who did this,” Riggs said, adding that “no charges have been filed at this time.”

Adult Colorado school shooting suspect appears in court

One of the suspects in the fatal Tuesday Colorado school shooting that left one person dead and eight others injured made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Suspect Devon Erickson, 18, often shook his head when replying to the judge, according to The Associated Press. He responded “no” when asked if he had any questions.

Erickson and a second suspect – a juvenile – are accused of the attack at the STEM School Highlands Ranch.

Charges in the case against Erickson are set to be filed on Friday afternoon local time, Rob McCallum, the public information officer for the Colorado Supreme Court, tweeted.

The Douglas County coroner identified the slain student as Kendrick Ray Castillo, the sheriff’s office announced. Castillo, 18, was killed when the suspects opened fire in a classroom at the K-12 charter school located south of Denver. The teen is reportedly credited with saving the lives of his classmates.

A high school football player who was detained for possible deportation just weeks before he was to graduate from a Tucson high school was released from immigration lockup, a family friend said Wednesday.

Lorena Rodriguez says in a Facebook post that Thomas Torres was released Tuesday night. Torres was taken to the United States from Mexico as a toddler and after his family returned to Mexico, Torres went to live with the Rodriguez family. The Arizona Daily Star also reported the young man’s release.

“OPERATION THOMAS COMPLETE!” Rodriguez declared on her Facebook page late Tuesday.

“I want to give a huge thanks to every single Desert View student, teacher and faculty member who stood by our side throughout this traumatic experience,” said Rodriguez, who launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for Torres’s legal costs.

“Thomas Torres has been released and is finally back home.”

The circumstances of the 18-year-old high school senior’s release are unclear, and it’s unknown whether he’ll graduate May 22 as scheduled. Rodriguez did not immediately return several telephone calls and email messages seeking additional information. Torres could not be located for comment.

“People like Thomas are needed in this country,” Rodriguez wrote on the fundraising site. “He’s a hardworking young man willing to better his future.”

Friends said Torres played on the Desert View High School football team and regularly worked several jobs, including busing tables at a restaurant and yardwork.

Although deportation proceedings involving high school students who have reached adulthood are not uncommon, the outpouring of support from Torres’ classmates seemed unusual. A large portion of the population in Tucson’s southern district, where the school is located, is Mexican-American.

Torres’ detention last Thursday prompted about 120 classmates to protest outside the Pima County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

Sheriff’s deputies contacted the Border Patrol after Torres admitted during a traffic stop that he was in the U.S. illegally. The sheriff’s office said Wednesday it had no additional information about his case.

The Border Patrol has confirmed that it initially held Torres, but said on Wednesday it has since transferred him to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE spokeswoman Yasmeen Pitts O’Keefe said she was investigating the status of Torres’ case.

Another student, Brendan Bialy, also tried to subdue one of the shooters, according to officials. A member of the Marines’ Delayed Entry Program, he put his own safety at risk and showed “courage and commitment” in helping tackle a gunman.

Marine Capt. Michael Maggiti said Bialy’s “decisive actions resulted in the safety and protection of his teachers and fellow classmates.”

Authorities identified one of the shooting suspects as Devon Erickson, 18. The other suspect was said to be a juvenile and has not yet been identified.

Nine students in total were shot before the suspects were taken into custody, officials said. The two had a “number of weapons,” which included two handguns, according to Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock. He noted neither suspect was old enough to buy or own the guns.

Colorado allows people 18 and older to buy “long guns,” such as shotguns, rifles and semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15, from dealers with federal firearms licenses. Anyone trying to buy a firearm in the state must undergo background checks conducted by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Douglas County District Attorney George Brauchler noted on Wednesday that the shooting was the fifth within a 20-mile radius of the school in the past two decades. He cited Columbine, the 2012 theater shooting in the Denver suburb of Aurora, a 2013 shooting at Arapahoe High School and last year’s fatal shooting of a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy.

Castillo’s actions came one week after another student, 21-year-old Riley Howell, also heroically jumped at a gunman who opened fire on a classroom at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Howell was also killed in that shooting.
