Minnesota man charged with murder after dropping infant son on head for being ‘difficult’: report

A Minnesota man was arrested Friday on a charge of killing his 5-month-old son by allegedly dropping him on his head for being fussy and “difficult,” a report said.

Matthew Hoisser, 35, was charged with second-degree murder in the April death of his son, Gus.

The infant died from injuries relating to a skull fracture, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported, citing a Washington County criminal complaint.

Hoisser told investigators he became frustrated when trying to put the baby to sleep because he was crying and “being difficult,” according to the paper. He reportedly said that at one point he purposefully dropped his son headfirst onto the floor.

An autopsy revealed a prior head injury that likely occurred within weeks of the infant’s hospitalization, according to the Pioneer Press. Hoisser reportedly told police he had not always been “super gentle” with the baby.

Hoisser’s bail was set at $350,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with his wife, who is pregnant.

Jeffrey Epstein wasn’t checked on for hours before apparent suicide: report

Correctional officers at the New York City prison housing Jeffrey Epstein didn’t check in on him for hours leading up to his apparent suicide on Saturday after his cellmate was transferred for reasons that were not immediately clear, according to a report.

Epstein, 66, was found unconscious in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, and later pronounced dead — raising questions about how the wealthy financier, imprisoned on sex trafficking charges, could have been able to kill himself while in a high-security facility just over two weeks after being placed on suicide watch.

FORMER NYC JAIL INMATE: THERE’S ‘NO WAY’ JEFFREY EPSTEIN KILLED HIMSELF

For “several” hours leading up to his death, correctional officers hadn’t checked in with Epstein — despite being required to visit him every 20 minutes, The Washington Post reported.

Additionally, Epstein was supposed to have a cellmate. But the person who was assigned to share a cell with Epstein was transferred on Friday before the 66-year-old’s death, according to the Post. It was not immediately clear why the cellmate was transferred or why no one else was assigned to room with Epstein.

Epstein was placed on suicide watch in July and had been given psychiatric evaluations after he was discovered with bruising on his neck, but was taken off suicide watch at the end of July.

Barbara Sampson, New York City’s chief medical examiner, said Sunday that an autopsy was performed on Epstein, but more information was needed before a cause of death was determined.

JEFFREY EPSTEIN DEAD: TIMELINE OF SEXUAL ABUSE ALLEGATIONS AND RELATED LEGAL CASES

The financier was housed in the facility’s Special Housing Unit, a heavily secured part of the Manhattan facility that separates high-profile inmates from the general population. Correctional officers at the jail had reportedly worked extreme overtime shifts for days on end to compensate staffing shortages.

Attorney General William Barr said he was “appalled” to learn of Epstein’s death, and announced the FBI and the Justice Department’s inspector general’s office will investigate his apparent suicide.

Epstein was being held on child sex trafficking and conspiracy charges after he was denied bail. Prosecutors said he sexually abused dozens of young girls in his New York and Florida residences between 2002 and 2005, to which Epstein pleaded not guilty.

He faced up to 45 years in prison.

Epstein death may not mean end of sex trafficking probe

Good morning and welcome to Fox News First. Here’s what you need to know as you start the new week …

Epstein autopsy performed, cause of death not released; Guards worked extreme overtime
An autopsy has been performed on Jeffrey Epstein, but officials have not released a cause of death because the medical examiner needs more information. Meanwhile, the high-security correctional facility where the politically-connected financier died in an apparent suicide has fallen under scrutiny. Correctional officers who worked in a special unit inside the New York City jail that housed Epstein had worked extreme overtime shifts to compensate for staffing shortages, according to reports Sunday. The Associated Press cited an unnamed source in a Sunday report that said the Metropolitan Correctional Center’s Special Housing Unit was staffed with a single guard working a fifth straight day of overtime and another who was working mandatory overtime.

FBI, Justice Department throw extra manpower at Epstein case
The FBI and and the Justice Department’s inspector general have devoted additional resources toward investigating Epstein’s death. The New York City medical examiner performed an autopsy Sunday but said she needed more information before making a determination. Attorney General William Barr is taking a hands-on role in the investigation, according to the Wall Street Journal, and has asked Deputy FBI Director David Bowdich to brief the deputy attorney general every three hours.

Epstein had been placed on suicide watch after he was found last month with bruising on his neck, but he was taken off the watch at the end of July. The Justice Department was told Epstein would be monitored by a guard every half-hour and would be housed with a cellmate, an official with knowledge into the investigation told the AP. However, the cellmate recently had been transferred, allowing him to be housed alone, a violation of jail protocol, officials told the New York Times. At the time of his death, Epstein was facing 45 years in prison on sex trafficking charges, accused of sexually abusing dozens of young girls between 2002 and 2005.

Epstein death may nobe end of sex trafficking investigation
Jeffrey Epstein’s death reportedly has raised the pressure on prosecutors to pursue charges against associates who enabled his alleged sexual abuse and sex trafficking. Investigators have a new focus on people who allegedly helped Epstein recruit young women for sex trafficking, the Wall Street Journal reports. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have vowed to continue their investigation, and growing new evidence could lead to other targets.

Bannon: Someone in Democratic Party must stand up to radical wing
Steve Bannon, former chief White House strategist, says Texas Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro’s move to post the names and employers of dozens of Trump campaign donors in the San Antonio area both “unacceptable” and “dangerous” and said someone must hold its radical members accountable. Speaking on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Bannon argued that moves like Castro’s show the “anarchy of the radical” and that leaders in the Democratic Party need to put a halt to such moves. “The Democratic Party has become so radicalized and what you see in Castro in unacceptable to weaponize people’s donations, private citizens’ donations,” Bannon said. “This is going to get very dangerous.”

His teammates, Gerek Meinhardt and Nick Itkin, both stood for the anthem. “We must call for change,” Imboden said afterward on Twitter. “This week I am honored to represent Team USA at the Pan Am Games, taking home Gold and Bronze. My pride however has been cut short by the multiple shortcomings of the country I hold so dear to my heart,” he said. “Racism, Gun Control, mistreatment of immigrants.” The political protest could lead to disciplinary action by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

A wayward snake photobombed a back-to-school picture of a seventh-grader in Alabama who was lining up for the perfect photo next to a tree in Auburn.

Dozens of people have been injured and two have been killed in Chicago, Ill., in 33 separate incidents over the weekend where shots were fired, according to police.

At least 40 people have been wounded in the gunfire since early Saturday morning, according to police reports obtained by Fox News.

On Saturday around 3:15 a.m. a 19-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in Humboldt Park, which is on the west side of Chicago, with a group of men when shots were fired, according to police. They said the teen was shot in the armpit and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Also in Humboldt Park, about 15 hours later, police said a 47-year-old man was in a vehicle when “an unknown offender” approached the victim and fired shots.

CHICAGO WEEKEND SHOOTINGS LEAVE 8 DEAD, 40 WOUNDED

The man was hit twice and transported to an area hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Police said no one is in custody in either case.

Authorities said a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s West Side early Sunday wounded six people, including one who is reported in critical condition.

Chicago police said the five women and one man were in a large crowd gathered on a street in the Garfield Park neighborhood when someone in a light-colored sedan opened fire.

A 25-year-old man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the back. Three women were hospitalized in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in the case and the shooting remains under investigation by detectives.

Another drive-by shooting was reported later on Sunday where an 8-year-old girl was hit, according to Chicago police.

They said the girl was at a barbecue in Humboldt Park on the West Side around 3:55 p.m. when someone inside a blue Dodge Charger drove by and opened fire hitting her in the leg.

CHICAGO HAS MOST VIOLENT WEEKEND THIS YEAR: 52 SHOT, 10 DEAD

A witness told Fox 32 that the girl was outside, playing next to her mom when the shooters drove by in the blue car.

“They drove through the block three times, but the first time we thought it was ok because we know them,” she told the television station. “Then they pulled around a second and third time, laughed at us and then I heard six to 10 shots.”

She added that police just missed the shooters, passing their car as they drove off.

Chardonnay Burks, who identified herself as the girl’s 18-year-old sister, told Fox 32 that she was at work when someone called her and said her sister had been shot.

“How are you going to come through shooting when you see kids?” Burks told the station. “They were aiming for somebody else obviously, but my little brother is four and was outside. He could have shot him too.”

The girl is in “good condition,” according to police.

They said no one is in custody in that case.

Chicago police told Fox News the final number of those shot over the weekend will be released on Monday afternoon.
