Seattle police captain busted in prostitution sting after offering $40 to undercover cop: reports

A police captain in Seattle was among the five men arrested this week in a prostitution string, reports say.

Capt. Randal Woolery, a member of the Seattle Police Department for 31 years, was placed on administrative leave following his arrest Wednesday in north Seattle, KING-TV reported.

The station reported not being able to reach Woolery for comment. An email Saturday seeking comment from Fox News wasn’t immediately returned.

NY college student’s killer sentenced to 30 years in Nicaragua prison

A New York college student’s convicted killer has been sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison in Nicaragua where he fled after the murder.

Orlando Tercero, 23, was found guilty of last year’s murder of Binghamton University student 22-year-old Haley Anderson in a Nicaragua courtroom Nov. 1. The sentencing was Friday.

Nicaragua prohibits the extradition of its own citizens, leading to the rare legal proceeding in which New York prosecutors participated in the case via a video hookup by lining up witnesses. Tercero is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Nicaragua.

COLLEGE STUDENT’S MURDER IN NEW YORK LEADS TO A GUILTY VERDICT IN NICARAGUA

Investigators believe Anderson was asleep when Tercero strangled her to death, Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell said Friday, according to Fox 40 Binghamton.

“It doesn’t get any more sick and depraved than that,” he said after the sentencing, according to the station. “Not only is he using his physical abilities, but praying on somebody who is helpless.”

Anderson’s parents joined Cornwell to watch the sentencing in his office, the station reported.

Friends of Anderson, who was from Long Island, said Tercero was obsessed with her. He met her at Binghamton where he was also a student.

Her body was found in his off-campus apartment.

A police investigator testified that Tercero left a note at his residence saying he was sorry

Cornwell praised Nicaraguan authorities, saying they stepped up and fought for Anderson as if she was their own victim.

Coast Guard intercepts narco-sub with 5,000 pounds of cocaine worth $69M

A U.S. Coast Guard cutter has seized an apparent narco-submarine carrying more than 5,000 pounds of cocaine worth approximately $69 million during an interdiction operation in the Pacific Ocean.

The semi-submersible vessel was transporting 2 1/2 tons of cocaine at the time of the Oct. 23 seizure by Coast Guard law enforcement personnel aboard the Harriet Lane.

COAST GUARD INTERCEPTS UNDERSEA VESSEL CARRYING $165M OF COCAINE

“Boarding teams from the cutter deployed in interceptor boats and stopped the suspected smuggling vessel just before midnight,” the Coast Guard said in a news release Thursday.

“The boarding teams took control of the vessel before the four suspected smugglers aboard could sink the craft using installed scuttling valves.”

The exact location of the bust wasn’t disclosed.

“I am really proud of our crew and the precision and professionalism with which they conducted this interdiction,” said Cmdr. Dorothy Hernaez, Commanding Officer of the Harriet Lane, in the statement. . “It was an all hands on deck effort to properly position the cutter and to safely make the seizure.”

Kin to Michael Brown, Marine deserter accused of killing mom’s boyfriend: ‘Please, turn yourself in’

The mother and grandmother of Michael Brown, a decorated U.S. Marine now on the run after allegedly killing his mother’s boyfriend in Virginia, pleaded with him Friday to turn himself in.

“Please trust us when we tell you to trust the authorities and turn yourself in,” his grandmother, Diane Hanson, told Roanoke’s WFXR-TV.

Brown, 22, allegedly deserted his post at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina last month after he was accused in the shooting death of Rodney Brown on Nov. 9.

CAR OF MARINE LINKED TO VIRGINIA SLAYING IS FOUND IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AUTHORITIES SAY

On Friday, authorities in North Roanoke cleared a search area after investigating a report of a possible sighting of Brown walking along train tracks. But authorities said they could not confirm Brown was in the area, WSLS-TV of Roanoke reported.

Also on Friday, the U.S. Marine Corps confirmed that Brown was considered a deserter, WDBJ-TV of Roanoke reported. A Marine Corps spokesman told the station Brown did not show up for duties Oct. 24, was listed as AWOL the next day, and was declared a deserter Nov. 10, the day after Rodney Brown was killed.

Michael Brown, 22, left, is wanted in the shooting death of Rodney Brown, 54, authorities say.

“I don’t want you hurt, please,” his mother, Vanessa Hanson, said.  “Michael you’re my baby I love you please I can’t lose you. I’m scared for you.”

Brown’s car was found in South Carolina last week, authorities said Wednesday.

Several agencies in North Carolina and Virginia — in addition to the U.S. Marshals, FBI, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) have been conducting a massive manhunt for him.

His mother went on to say they would help him get a lawyer if he turned himself in.

“I can’t lose another person,” she added.

“Michael I know that you’re alone and afraid right now but there are people who want to help you,” his grandmother told WFXR. “We still care about you. Please turn yourself in. Nobody wants to see you die also.”

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia Monday issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest on second-degree murder charges.

Authorities were still working to determine a motive. Neighbors told WSLS the Marine recently learned Rodney Brown was not his biological father. He reportedly believed his mother’s boyfriend was his biological father for his entire life.

Authorities said Brown should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

San Francisco real estate heiress acquitted in murder of children father

A San Francisco real estate heiress was acquitted Friday of murdering the father of her children, ending more than two years of house arrest after her family posted one of the highest bail amounts on record.

After 12 days of deliberation, jurors found Tiffany Li not guilty of killing Keith Green in 2016 over a custody dispute. The case gained widespread attention when Li’s family — which built a fortune in real estate — posted her unprecedented $35 million bail.

Li’s attorney, Geoffrey Carr, told reporters his client plans to travel to China to see her family and strengthen her relationship with her children.

“Any time any defendant is found not guilty in a serious crime, they’re (given) a gift by somebody — I don’t believe in God, but somebody — and they should pay attention,” he said.

Carr said Li’s defense team of three lawyers and four investigators would have worked just as hard had they been appointed by a judge to a poor defendant, adding that her fortune played no role in her acquittal.

San Mateo District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said his office was disappointed with the verdict.

“As we always say, this is how the jury system works, and we respect the jury for what it does,” he said.

Prosecutors said Li lured Green to her San Francisco-area mansion where her boyfriend, Kaveh Bayat, shot him in the mouth. They contend the couple hired two people to dispose of the body.

Green’s body was found along a dirt road just north of San Francisco nearly two weeks later. Blood evidence was found in Li’s Mercedes-Benz and gunshot residue was discovered in her garage, prosecutors said.

Li’s attorneys deny she had anything to do with the slaying. They argued Green was killed in a botched kidnapping attempt. They said she had already settled the custody dispute with Green.

Prosecutors suffered a setback this month when a witness, Oliver Adella, was arrested on suspicion of contacting an ex-girlfriend and witness for the defense. Adella was prepared to testify that Li and Bayat asked him to dispose of Green’s body.

He was never called to the stand. Bayat was acquitted of gun charges, but jurors were deadlocked on the murder charges, prompting a judge to declare a mistrial in his case.

Charges are pending for Adella.

The 16-year-old Southern California high school student who shot five of his classmates Thursday before turning the gun on himself has died, authorities said late Friday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow passed away at 3:32 PT. His mother was present at the time, according to a the sheriff’s office statement.

Authorities say Berhow pulled a gun from his backpack Thursday at Saugus High School in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita, shot five students at random and then shot himself in the head. The shooting, captured on surveillance video, took 16 seconds. Investigators told reporters earlier Friday they have not uncovered a motive for the shooting.

The attack killed 15-year-old Gracie Muehlberger and 14-year-old Dominic Blackwell. Two girls remain hospitalized but are expected to be released this weekend.
