Sirhan Sirhan, RFK’s assassin, reportedly stabbed in California prison

Sirhan Sirhan, the man convicted of assassinating Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, has been hospitalized after being stabbed in a San Diego prison Friday afternoon.

California corrections officials did not identify Sirhan, 75, as the victim, but a source confirmed to the Associated Press that it was the man serving a life sentence in connection with the death of Kennedy, a U.S. senator from New York who was slain at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after winning the 1968 Democratic presidential primary in California.

Sirhan was said to be in stable condition after the attack. Circumstances that led to the stabbing were not immediately known.

Queens man was arrested Thursday and accused of plotting a terrorist attack with a knife on behalf of the Islamic Statefederal prosecutors announced Friday.

Awais Chudhary, 19, was arraigned in Brooklyn federal court on one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. U.S. Magistrate Judge James Orenstein ordered Chudhary held without bail.

Prosecutors say Chudhary communicated with undercover FBI agents in text messages, telling them he planned to carry out a stabbing or bombing to kill innocent people in the name of ISIS and wanted to record it to “inspire” others. Chudhary, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan, allegedly identified two potential attack locations in Queens: the World’s Fair Marina and a pedestrian bridge over the Grand Central Parkway to the Flushing Bay Promenade

MARYLAND MAN ACCUSED OF PLOTTING ISIS-INSPIRED TERROR ATTACK NEAR DC IS INDICTED.

Chudhary allegedly ordered a tactical knife, a mask, gloves and a cellphone chest-and-head strap so he could record the attack. He was arrested while trying to pick up those items from an online vendor’s retail location.

“Awais Chudhary had accepted the call from ISIS to kill fellow New Yorkers in the city he called home,” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said in a statement. “He had carefully planned, conducted reconnaissance, picked a target, and was in the process of obtaining the weapon. All he has left to do was to strike.

“The FBI agents and NYPD detectives of the JTTF [Joint Terrorism Task Force] should be commended for the disruption of this plot. Their work almost certainly saved lives.”

TRIAL OF ALLEGED 9/11 MASTERMIND, FOUR OTHERS SET FOR EARLY 2021

Chudhary allegedly told one undercover agent he wanted to use a knife for the attack “because that’s what he knows,” but would be open to learning how to build a bomb if the undercover agent could teach him. That done, he would consider using a bomb at a “mini-bridge over a busy road with many cars,” according to the Justice Department.

Chudhary allegedly sent another undercover agent the screenshot of a document titled “Islamic State” that allegedly instructed users where to stab someone and what knives were “ideal.” The document included diagrams with directions on where to stab someone’s body, the DOJ said.

Chudhary also scoped out his locations, and FBI agents saw him take cellphone photos and videos at several locations.

“There’s no doubt Chudhary allegedly wanted to make headlines by attacking innocent people going about their daily lives,” said FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney. “Thanks to the diligent work of the agents, analysts and detectives on the FBI New York JTTF, the only thing to report today is his arrest, and the only photos Chudhary will be featured in are the ones taken in our prisoner processing room prior to his arrival in federal prison.”

If convicted, Chudhary faces up to 20 years in prison.

California appeals court overturns sole conviction in Kate Steinle death

A California state appeals court Friday overturned the lone conviction against an undocumented immigrant who shot and killed Kate Steinle on the San Francisco waterfront in 2015, a case which drew national attention and became a flashpoint in the debate over illegal immigration.

Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate, who was in the U.S. illegally had been deported to his native Mexico five times, was acquitted in November 2017 of first and second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and assault with a semi-automatic weapon. He was convicted of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On Friday, the 1st District Court of Appeal in San Francisco overturned that conviction because the judge failed to instruct the jury on one of Garcia-Zarate’s defenses. Garcia-Zarate remains in custody and is facing federal gun charges.

Steinle, 32, died on July 1, 2015, after she was struck by a bullet while walking with her father and a family friend. Garcia-Zarate claimed he unwittingly picked up the gun, which was wrapped in a T-shirt, and it fired accidentally.

The gun belonged to a federal Bureau of Land Management ranger and was stolen from his parked car a week earlier.

Earlier this year, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court decision to dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Steinle’s parents against San Francisco. The lawsuit maintained that the city’s so-called sanctuary policy and San Francisco County Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi bore responsibility for Steinle’s death.

Three months before the killing, Garcia-Zarate was released from custody after a drug case against him was dropped. The sheriff’s office, which had ended contact between jail employees and immigration officials, ignored a request by federal authorities to hold Garcia-Zarate until they could assume custody and did not inform them that he was being released.

Trial of alleged 9/11 mastermind, four others set for early 2021

Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, will stand trial with four other men on war crimes charges at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba beginning in early 2021, a military judge said Friday.

Air Force Col. W. Shane Cohen set a start date of Jan. 11, 2021 in an order setting motion and evidentiary deadlines in a case that has been bogged down in pretrial litigation, noting that the trial “will face a host of administrative and logistics challenges.”

Mohammad and his co-defendants are charged with crimes including terrorism, hijacking and 2,976 counts of murder for their alleged roles planning and providing logistical support to the Sept. 11 plot. They could get the death penalty if convicted at the military commission, which combines elements of civilian and military law.

The quintet have been held at Guantanamo Bay since September 2006 after several years in clandestine CIA detention facilities following their capture.

According to Cohen’s order, prosecutors must provide the defense team with a list of trial materials by Oct. 1. In the interim, the judge will hold a series of hearings with witnesses to determine whether or not confessions the defendants made to FBI agents in 2006 will be admissible in court. The defense team argues that after the men were captured in Pakistan in 2002 and 2003, they were tortured by the CIA, and thus the confessions should be thrown out.

The criminal case alleges that Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, a senior Al Qaeda figure, was the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attacks, in which 19 hijackers took over four commercial airliners, crashing two of them into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, one into the Pentagon and another into a field in Shanksville, Pa.

The other four defendants are Mohammad’s nephew, Ammar al-Baluchi, Walid bin Attash and Ramzi bin al-Shibh and Mustafa al Hawsawi, who allegedly helped to train the hijackers and facilitate the attacks by providing travel and finances to the assailants.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died after accidentally overdosing on a mixture of the painkillers fentanyl and oxycodone as well as alcohol, according to an autopsy report released on Friday.

Skaggs, 27, was found dead in a Southlake, Texas hotel room on July 1, hours before the Angels were to play the Texas Rangers.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said Skaggs’ cause of death was due to “mixed ethanol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents,” meaning Skaggs was intoxicated and is thought to have choked on his own vomit. No trauma was suspected.

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that can treat severe pain. Oxycodone is also used to treat pain and can be fatal when combined with other substances or taken in high doses.

In a statement released in response to the autopsy report, Skaggs’ family indicated an Angels employee might be involved in the circumstances surrounding his death, but did not elaborate further.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS PITCHER TYLER SKAGGS DEAD AT 27

“We are heartbroken to learn that the passing of our beloved Tyler was the result of a combination of dangerous drugs and alcohol. That is completely out of character for someone who worked so hard to become a Major League baseball player and had a very promising future in the game he loved so much,” the family said. “ … We will not rest until we learn the truth about how Tyler came into possession of these narcotics, including who supplied them. To that end, we have hired Texas attorney Rusty Hardin to assist us.”

Hardin, who has formerly represented baseball players Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens, told the Los Angeles Times that the family is devastated and wants to get to the bottom of what happened.

“I think the thing to keep in mind is they’re just still so devastated, both the wife and the family, about this young man’s death, and they just want to know what happened and how it happened,” Hardin said. “We’re going to want to know how it came about that those drugs were ingested and whether or not others are responsible for what happened.”

FORMER NO. 1 MLB DRAFT PICK OF METS ACCUSED OF LEAVING OLD DOG TO DIE IN APARTMENT

Skaggs was found unresponsive by police at the Hilton Hotel in Southlake shortly after 2 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. He died two days after his last start with the Angels, one of 15 he made in 2019.

The Angels selected Skaggs as a first-round pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, right out of high school. He was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 and made his MLB debut there, making 13 appearances over two seasons. He was reacquired by the Angels in December 2013 and had won 25 games over five seasons with the team. Skaggs had signed a $3.7 million contract with the Angels in 2019.

He was born in Woodland Hills, Calif., and had married his wife, Carli, at the end of the 2018 season. He lived in Santa Monica at the time of his death.

Nebraska woman with concealed-carry permit arrested on assault charge after shooting fleeing shoplifting suspect

A Nebraska woman was arrested and charged with first-degree assault Friday after police say she shot a fleeing shoplifting suspect in the arm earlier this month.

Investigators say Shelby Jones, 38, was shopping at a convenience store early on Aug. 1 when Tilian Tilian, 22, allegedly tried to shoplift two bottles of liquor.

Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said the store’s clerk tried to restrain Tilian and the two got into an altercation.

Jeffrey Epstein Florida mansion police video shows massage tables allegedly used for sex with minors

Video of a 2005 police raid of Jeffrey Epstein’s Florida mansion shows the massage tables officials say the convicted sex offender used in his twisted trysts with minors.

The video shows at least two massage tables, one on each floor of the home, as well as what appear to be two more tables in the pool house. The video also showed the house was partially decorated with illicit photos and imagery of young women, Fox News reported Thursday.

VIDEO FROM RAID ON JEFFREY EPSTEIN’S PALM BEACH MANSION SHOWED NUDE IMAGES OF YOUNG WOMEN

A green massage table was found on the second floor, leaning against a wall under framed photos of Epstein, who was accused of molesting dozens of girls at the mansion.

According to the affidavit and application for a search warrant, in March 2005 a 14-year-old girl told a detective that a woman who worked for Epstein brought her to his Palm Beach home in February and told her to come upstairs.

“The victim recalled there being a mural of a naked woman in the room, as well as several photographs of naked women on a shelf,” the affidavit said.

“According to the victim, the woman led her to a room that had a massage table in it,” court documents said, adding the woman took lotions out, then left.

“Soon after, Epstein walked in wearing only a towel and told the victim to take off her clothes,” according to court documents, which added “he was stern when he told her to take off her clothes.”

The affidavit said, “Epstein then instructed her to give him a massage” while he was naked and allegedly touched himself.

Epstein paid the victim $300 cash, according to court documents.

Investigators interviewed the woman who allegedly brought the teen to his home, according to the affidavit, which said that woman told them she met Epstein when she was 17 through a friend who asked her if she wanted to make money.

The woman told police she was brought to the home and was led upstairs by another woman who set up the massage table and took out oils, the affidavit said.

When the woman left, Epstein walked in wearing only a towel, according to court documents, which said the woman who eventually worked for him massaged Epstein while naked.

“He explained, I know you’re not comfortable, but I’ll pay you if you bring some girls. He told her the younger the better,” the affidavit said, adding that the woman told investigators she brought at least six girls, who were all between 14 and 16, to his Palm Beach home.

ACTRESS ANOUSKA DE GEORGIOU SAYS JEFFREY EPSTEIN SEXUALLY ABUSED HER AS A TEEN

The woman “stated she once tried to bring a 23-year-old female and Epstein stated that the female was too old,” according to court documents.

By 2006, Palm Beach investigators had interviewed more than 30 young women – some of whom were minors at the time of the alleged molestations.

In the end, prosecutors and Epstein’s lawyers negotiated a then-secret plea deal that led Epstein to serve just 13 months in jail under work-release privileges, allowing him to work in his office six days a week.

He pleaded guilty to a child prostitution charge and registered as a sex offender.

The FBI has raided Epstein’s other properties, including his New York City mansion and his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Prosecutors confirmed this week that inquiries into Epstein’s co-conspirators were ongoing and would continue despite the fact that the criminal case against Epstein has been dismissed due to Epstein’s suicide in his jail cell earlier this month.

A U.S. service member was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday, officials said, bringing the total number of combat deaths there this year to 15 – and making this the deadliest year since the Pentagon announced the end of combat operations in 2014.

The 2019 death toll in Afghanistan has already surpassed the 13 troops killed there last year.

The service member killed Thursday was not immediately identified, in keeping with U.S. Department of Defense policy withholding the names until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.

New Mexico officials are in the process of canceling state land leases for the Zorro Ranch owned by accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, the state’s land commissioner told Fox News on Friday.

The ranch, which is nearly 10,000 acres, is a mix of private and state-owned lands. New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas found Epstein, who killed himself while in federal custody awaiting trial on sex crimes charges, improperly leased the land from the state. A cancellation on that sale is in the works, Fox News has learned.

Taking back parcels of state-owned land could make it easier to search the estate – which is one of the only Epstein properties that have not yet been raided by authorities. Some of Epstein’s accusers have said they were assaulted at the ranch.

“Our desire to cancel these leases is because we don’t want to conduct business with Epstein or his companies,” a statement from the New Mexico State Land Office said. “The existence of these leases wouldn’t prevent law enforcement agency from raiding the house.”

With Hurricane Dorian looming, have you checked your survival kit to make sure it has enough CBD oils, IV water and honey to sustain you and your dog?

As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was urging residents Friday to gear up for a potential Category 4 life-threatening storm, businesses across the Sunshine State are using the #HurricaneDorian hashtag on Instagram as a way to hawk everything from liquid IV’s to children’s dolls.

“Worried about pet anxiety with the #HurricaneDorian on the way? #CBD is a great option to help your #furbabies keep calm,” reads one post.

“Here’s a way to avoid the madness over bottled water during Hurricane prep, get a Hydration IV,” says another.

The posts are appearing amongst warnings about the coming storm, memes and, of course, pictures of dogs with forlorn looks on their faces.

Two of the posts are from businesses based in Florida that sell honey.

“Due to the healing abilities and nutritional value of raw honey it’s a must have in our hurricane kit!” one says.

Another post by a business that sells children’s toys shows a doll with a glum look on its face in front of a screen indicating Dorian’s current location – and sustained wind speeds of 110 mph.

DeSantis says Florida residents looking for specific information regarding ongoing preparations for the storm in their communities should visit floridadisaster.org/info.
