Family of Florida dad Anthony Todt found decomposed with stab wounds in home as new details emerge

The wife and three kids of Anthony Todt were all wrapped in blankets and decomposing, with three stabbed in the abdomen, when deputies discovered the bodies inside their Florida home earlier this month, according to documents unsealed Friday.

Deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office noticed a “strong foul odor” when they entered the home in Celebration, located near Orlando on the outskirts of Disney World, to execute a federal warrant for Todt’s arrest, an arrest affidavit said.

The 44-year-old Todt could “barely stand and appeared to be shaking” as he tried to walk down the stairs from the second floor, a deputy said in a written report.

ANTHONY TODT, DAD ACCUSED OF KILLING FAMILY IN FLORIDA, WITNESSED OWN FATHER’S PLOT TO KILL MOTHER: REPORT

When asked if anyone else was in the house, Todt said his wife, Meghan, was sleeping upstairs and his kids might be at a sleepover.

Deputies called out Meghan’s name, but no one responded, the report said, adding that the odor grew stronger as they reached the second floor, where they found the four bodies and the body of a dog with “very visible decomposition” in a bedroom.

“While standing outside of the master bedroom, I could see a person laying on the floor who was wrapped in blankets,” one deputy reported. “Sticking out of the blankets was a foot that was black and blue in color.”

Meghan Todt, 42, was found lying on a bed with two stab wounds to her abdomen, according to the arrest affidavit. Their two sons, 13-year-old Alek and 11-year-old Tyler, were on the floor beside the bed. Each had one stab wound to the abdomen.

The cause of death was still pending for each family member.

Call records released by the sheriff’s office showed that worried relatives made several calls to after it appeared the Todts had been missing for days around Christmastime.

“They’ve been really sick, I guess they’ve had the flu,” Todt’s sister told law enforcement during one call on Dec. 29. “They’ve had the flu for probably a couple weeks. They were really down and out during Christmas. The only person we’ve been able to talk to is my brother, and now… we can’t get a hold of any of them.”

Deputies checked on the home several times but were unable to make contact with the family. They said they found nothing suspicious and were unable to enter the home on their own until they ultimately served Todt with the federal arrest warrant on Jan. 13 for directing an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme at his physical-therapy practice in Connecticut.

Todt had confessed to murdering his family and their dog, Breezy, shortly after deputies took him into custody. He faced four counts of homicide and one count of animal cruelty.

Small plane crash in Georgia leaves 2 dead, debris on highway

Two people were killed after a small plane crashed near a highway in Georgia on Saturday, leaving debris across the roadway.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon in Coweta County near the town of Senoia, located about 35 miles south of Atlanta.

Investigators told FOX5 the Mustang 2 aircraft crashed in the woods about a half-mile from the Big T Airport.

Florida Python Bowl nets 80 snakes for cash prizes in Everglades

Burmese python hunt in Florida bagged 80 of the big serpents as contenders vied for cash prizes in the state’s latest effort to eliminate the invasive species that has long devastated the Everglades’ delicate ecosystem.

The competition, which ran from Jan. 9 to Jan. 19, attracted more than 750 hunters from across 20 states, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee said Saturday in a news release.

FLORIDA DOUBLES PYTHON HUNTERS AS OVER 1,000 APPLY FOR HOURLY WAGE JOB WITH BOUNTY INCENTIVES

The top professional and rookie hunters were each awarded in three different categories based on who caught the most, the longest and the heaviest pythons. The agency announced the winners in Miami.

Pro grand prize winner Mike Kimmel won a Tracker 570 off-road ATV for capturing eight pythons. Rookie grand prize winner Kristian Hernandez won an ATV for removing six pythons and $2,000 for catching an 11-foot, 6.5-inch snake.

Pro grand prize winner Tom Rahill won $2,000 for heaviest python, bagging a 62-pound snake, and an additional $2,000 for removing the longest python at 12 feet, 7 inches.

The competition also awarded active service members or veterans who took part in the hunt. Barry Offenburger, of the U.S. Army, won $1,000 for removing three pythons, while Dave Mucci, of the U.S. Air Force, won a total of $3,750 across several categories for capturing a nearly 50-pound, 11-foot-long python.

The hunt was designed to raise awareness about the invasive species and its effect on the Everglades.

MASSIVE 16-FOOT PYTHON WITH NEST OF 50 EGGS REMOVED FROM FLORIDA EVERGLADES

Native to Southeast Asia, the Burmese python is one of the largest snakes in the world, growing to over 20 feet long. The serpent began appearing in the Everglades more than 20 years ago when the reptiles were imported as pets and released, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Instagram survey shows every state’s least favorite state, while NJ ‘hates everyone’

Perhaps surprisingly, Florida’s least favorite state happens to be Florida, and perhaps not surprisingly New Jersey’s least favorite state is every other state.

Those were the findings of Matt Shirley of Los Angeles, who polled his Instagram followers as part of a survey to find out which states hate which states the most.

Shirley has more than 323,000 followers on the social media platform, where he posts homemade humorous charts and graphs, according to the Asbury Park Press. He estimates he received more than 2,500 responses for his unscientific study.

“These were write-in votes so there weren’t any options to choose from,” Shirley told the paper in an email. “Someone else asked me if I put that New Jersey hated everyone just because of the variety of answers I got and this wasn’t the case. The most common answer I got from New Jersey folks was ‘we hate everyone’ or something similar.”

The paper reported the results shouldn’t come as a total shock, given the openly combative official Twitter account maintained by the government of New Jersey.

Shirley’s map has been liked nearly 24,000 times as of Sunday morning.

He said four-fifths of Florida respondents picked Florida as the state Florida hates the most. Florida was the only state to achieve that dubious distinction.

“I live in Florida, have my whole life, and would not hesitate to unironically put that as my answer,” was how one Floridian reacted to the survey, according to the paper.

The survey drew the attention of Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, who cited it in a series of good-natured tweets about New Jersey attempting to claim they have the best cheesesteaks, Pennlive.com reported.

New Jersey was Pennsylvania’s least favorite state, according to the survey.

Arizona border agents find fentanyl taped to man’s thighs during immigration check

A would-be drug smuggler was thwarted in Arizona last week after border agents discovered bags of fentanyl taped to his thighs, authorities said

Agents questioned a 19-year-old U.S. citizen during a routine immigration inspection of a passenger shuttle at the Interstate 19 Immigration Checkpoint near Amado, about 30 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, Customs and Border Protection said Friday in a news release.

Agents conducted a search and found bags of pills strapped to the man’s thighs with what appeared to be electrical tape, the CBP said. The pills, which tested positive for fentanyl, totaled 243 grams. A dose of just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal, according to experts.

The man, whose identity was not released, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute.

Homeless woman in Portland sleeping in front of garage run over by driver, dies at hospital, police say

A homeless woman who was sleeping in front of a garage at an apartment complex in Oregon‘s largest city died on Friday after she was accidentally run over by a driver, according to police.

The Portland Police Bureau said in a news release the incident happened around 6:25 a.m. at an apartment building in the 2700 block of Southeast 92nd Avenue when officers were called to a report of a vehicle running over a person in a driveway.

Officers arriving at the scene found an injured woman, identified as 47-year-old Trecell R. Stinson, conscious and talking.

HOMELESS CRISIS IN PORTLAND SPURS DEPLOYMENT OF MOBILE HYGIENE STATIONS TO ENCAMPMENTS

Police said that Stinson was homeless and had laid down to sleep in front of the garage door of the apartment building.

The driver of the car told officers that his car had been backed into the garage and that when he came out of his car to go to work he pulled forward out of the garage and “felt a bump.”

“He stopped but did not see what he had struck. He continued (to) pull out and felt another bump,” police said. “That’s when he realized that he had run over someone. He immediately called 911 for help.”

Stinson was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, but later that morning police said officers learned Stinson’s condition had “taken a turn for the worse.” The 47-year-old died “a short time later” at the hospital from her injuries.

PORTLAND RESIDENTS, BUSINESS OWNERS WANT CITY OFFICIALS TO ‘FIX’ HOMELESS PROBLEM

Portland police said that at this time, no charges or citations have been issued. The PPB’s Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is now investigating the incident.

Portland, with a metropolitan area of about 2.4 million people, has joined West Coast cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco in struggling with a growing homeless crisis that ranks among the worst in the country.

Safety resource website Security.org released a study in October that showed Oregon has the fourth-highest number of homeless people in the nation when adjusted for population. The study found Oregon has about 350 homeless people per 100,000 people, nearly double the national average of 168 per 100,000.  The study also found that Oregon’s homeless rate has increased by nearly 14.10 percent since 2014.

On any given night, thousands of people can be found sleeping on the streets of Portland. The latest count, released in August, shows that, in 2019, more people were sleeping outside in Multnomah County than at any time in the last decade. Of the 2,037 unsheltered people, nearly 80 percent reported having one or more disabilities.

Arizona woman must donate embryos frozen before cancer, needs ex-husband’s consent to become pregnant

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a woman – who has since become infertile after surviving an aggressive form of cancer – may not use the embryos she had frozen before treatment to have a baby without her ex-husband’s consent and must donate them instead.

UTAH BECOMES 19TH STATE TO BAN LGBTQ CONVERSION THERAPY ON CHILDREN UNDER 18

Ruby Torres, 39, decided to have her eggs fertilized in 2014 after she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer and was told by an oncologist that chemotherapy would likely make her infertile. John Terrell, her boyfriend at the time, initially declined to serve as a sperm donor but eventually agreed, AZ Central reported, citing court documents.

The couple signed an agreement at a fertility clinic that stated, should they split up, the embryos would not “be used to create a pregnancy without the express, written consent of both parties.” The couple married days after signing the contract, but divorced three years later in 2017.

During their divorce proceedings, Terrell asked the Maricopa County Superior Court to prevent Torres from having the embryos implanted. He said he no longer desired to become a father to children he’d be financially responsible for. The court sided with him and ordered the embryos to be donated.

The Arizona Court of Appeals overturned that decision in March, ruling that Torres’ rights to have children prevailed over her ex-husband’s objections to becoming a parent.

The back-and-forth court battle inspired a bill in the Arizona State Legislature allowing a former spouse to use the embryos against their former partner’s wishes, but relieves the ex-spouse of parental responsibilities like child support. It became law in 2018, but was not retroactive to include past cases. The Center for Arizona Policy, a social conservative group that lobbies for religious freedom and anti-abortion policies, had lobbied the state legislature on Torres’ behalf.

“I’m heartbroken for Ruby Torres today,” Cathi Herrod, the group’s president, said in a statement after Thursday’s ruling. “It’s a sad day that she will not be able to bring her children to birth and raise them as she so desired.”

On Thursday, the Arizona Supreme Court upheld the couple’s initial contract, which determined that both parties must consent in order for Torres to use the embryo to become pregnant. The high court, serving with only five of seven justices, unanimously agreed that the embryos should be donated to a third-party.

“We are cognizant of the unavoidable emotional fall-out attendant to the disposition of the embryos here,” Justice Ann Scott Timmer wrote in the ruling. “But the family court was required to enforce the parties’ chosen disposition of the embryos as set forth in the Agreement.”

“This was a case that, once you took all the emotion out of it, hinged simply on contract law,” Terrell’s attorney, Claudia Work, told the Phoenix Times. “It’s a cautionary tale to clinics to be careful on their phrasing. It was clear that the only options available to the trial court were to enforce the contract and donate in this situation.”

An overweight bear that may have been living inside a small enclosure with poor conditions for “possibly decades” got a fresh start this week after being released to a Colorado animal sanctuary.

Dillon, an Asiatic Bear, was removed from the Union County Sportsmen’s Club in Milton, Penn., on Monday where he was enclosed in small cement cage with inadequate water, declawed and subject to continuous gunfire as his cage was just 200 feet from a shooting range, FOX31 reported, citing officials.

“He’s been there for possibly decades,” Kent Drotar with the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg told the station. “He’s incredibly large. We estimate he’s hundreds of pounds overweight. Just obese.”

Dillan was taken to the sanctuary with significant medical issues. According to a statement released on the group’s Facebook page, his teeth, gum lines and jaw bone have been eaten away at by a long-standing infection, he has patches of raw skin and his paws are severely disfigured after he was declawed at some point in captivity.

“Once Dillon’s dental issues have been repaired and his multiple infections are cleared, he will be able to move into a natural habitat where he can begin losing weight through exercise and receiving a correct diet,” the statement continued.

Dillon was released after several organizations, including actor Alec Baldwin, wrote to the governor and pressured the club to release the bear.

The Union County Sportsmen’s Club is a 200-acre property that features a shooting range, golf course, restaurant and bar, and other wildlife. Members pay $25 a year to gain access to the club.

A request for comment was not immediately answered but an employee told Fox News over the phone that there are other animals on the property, including deers and bears, but nothing as large as the obese bear.

Kentucky sheriff finds missing girl, 17, after psychics tell him he would

Psychics told a Kentucky sheriff they had a premonition he would find a missing teen safe — and they were proven right.

Franklin County Sheriff Chris Quire asked mediums to help him find 17-year-old Haylee Martin who was reported missing from Frankfort on Jan. 13, a day after disappearing.

She was found Friday in another jurisdiction, Scott County, after police there responded to a burglary call and found her and a friend trying to break in to a house belonging to the friend’s boyfriend, the Frankfort State-Journal reported.

Quire told the paper that he met a group of local psychics on Thursday evening at Haylee’s house where she was last seen.

The paper reported that the sheriff was at first skeptical but said he “did not want to leave any stone unturned.”

“It’s hard to believe, but most (of the psychics) agreed that we would find Haylee in a neighboring county by morning,” he said. “And we did.”

The girl disappeared after breaking up with a boyfriend, according to deputies.

Quire said two of three adults may face charges for helping Haylee avoid being found, the paper reported.
