A suspected gunman is at large after a shooting that followed a dispute between parents at a pee-wee football game in Fort Worth, Texas, police said Saturday.

Fox 4 News reported that a woman was hit in the leg and a girl was grazed in the back. Both were hospitalized and police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators believe the son of one of the parents involved in the argument came to the game armed with a handgun and opened fire.

A woman working at the concessions stand described the scene to Fox 4 News.

“It’s just unbelievable, because it’s like, you hear people say that all the time, but you don’t see nothing happen, and this time, it actually happened,” the concession worker said. “I ran outside, and was on the side of that truck, and just said, ‘Come in. Get in.’ Then one lady said she tried to get out of her chair, she said, ‘I’ve been hit,’ and fell to the ground.”

Border Patrol agent was shot and injured Friday night while conducting a traffic stop near the Texas-Mexico border and another agent shot and killed the gunman, authorities said Saturday.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), two agents from the Brackettville station and a Kinney County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle on Ranch Road 674.

‘TENT COURTS’ SET UP AT BORDER TOWNS TO EASE STRAIN ON IMMIGRATION CASES

A passenger in the vehicle fired at the agents, injuring one of them. The second agent returned fire and hit the gunman, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle’s driver was taken into custody.

CBP later identified the deceased passenger as a 25-year-old man and a U.S. citizen. The driver was identified as a 32-year-old woman, also a U.S. citizen.

The agent who was shot was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later airlifted to a San Antonio hospital, according to CBP. Neither the second agent nor the sheriff’s deputy were injured.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted about the incident Saturday night, saying, “Border Patrol Agents go out and do their duty each and every day despite the dangers. My prayers are with the agents involved and their families.”

The FBI and Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, along with CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility.

Brackettville is located about 115 miles west of San Antonio near the southern border with Mexico. The CBP statement about the incident noted that the area “is frequently used by smugglers to move narcotics and people from the border to San Antonio and other destinations.”

California Marine filmed violently tackling two brawling students to the ground

A Marine was caught on camera this week blindside tackling two California high school students who were fighting.

The video shows two students at Edison High School in Stockton throwing punches on Wednesday before the Marine, identified as 18-year-old Pfc. Josue Valdez Sarmiento, sprints in and abruptly knocks the grappling duo to the ground.

The video was first posted by 209 Times and has more than 1.2 million views on Facebook.

The Marine then held the students briefly down on the ground before getting up. One of the students is picked up by an adult and the other is seen lying on the ground after being tackled.

In a statement to KCRA-TV, the school district said it was aware of the incident and is investigating the situation.

“Stockton Unified is aware of the student matter that took place on 9/11/19 [Wednesday] at Edison High School and the recording circulating on social media. We are actively investigating the situation,” the district said.

Valdez Sarmiento is a recent graduate of the school and was there to help with recruiting but is not a recruiter, the U.S. Marine Corps said.

“He saw a dangerous fight break out. Upon observing that situation, he moved over and broke up the fight,” Maj. Thomas Driscoll told KCRA. “Although, the manner in which he did [could] have been improved, we are proud of Pfc. Valdez Sarmiento for his decision to intervene.”

Valdez Sarmiento has received counseling and been reassigned to office duties, according to the Corps.

The 209 Times said the students had been fighting for “over a minute uninterrupted in the open.”

“[… What] we are posting that parents may find concerning is a Marine recruiter blindside tackling a student so hard to break up the fight that if appears he hurts the student and does more damage than the actual fight itself. He ran full-speed from over 30 yards out,” they said. “Also of concern is the lack of response from actual school staff, as the fight lasted for over a minute uninterrupted in the open.”

People had mixed reactions to how Valdez Sarmiento broke up the fight.

“It was just too excessive … how he came toward the kids,” student Johnny Hempill told KCRA. “I feel like going at a kid, especially when he’s not looking, makes more of an impact.”

But a parent told Fox40 Sacramento the action was justified.

“It could have been a little less of a tackle, but I believe in discipline. These kids were not behaving. Someone’s got to stop it,” the parent said.

Many social media users backed up the Marine’s actions.

“That was a soft tackle to stop a fight using non-lethal force. Crybaby parents need to learn to teach his or her child better,” Twitter user Rudolph Hernandez wrote, while another user said the tackle “looked pretty effective.”

However, user Scott Baerst said, “That was dumb and dangerous. Hope that kid’s back/neck is OK.”

The condition of the students has not been released, according to reports.

The school and Stockton Police Department are investigating the incident.

California Highway Patrol officers capture fugitive emu on freeway

California Highway Patrol officers embarked on a wild emu chase Friday afternoon, finally capturing the giant bird as it strolled down a freeway shoulder.

“Yeah, it really was an emu,” California Highway Patrol spokesman Gregorio Rodriguez told Fresno Bee, adding, “he kept it on the shoulder the whole way until we got to the bottom of the off-ramp.”

A pair of officers used dog snares to detain the wild animal along State Route 99 in Madera County until local animal services were able to take the bird into custody. Officers still aren’t sure where the bird native to Australia escaped from, the Bee reported. The emu is the second-largest bird in the world, behind only the ostrich, and can weigh up to 120 pounds. The birds can also run as fast as 30 mph.

Florida man who dragged shark in viral video sentenced to 10 days in jail

A Florida man who recorded a shark being dragged to its death behind a high-speed boat accepted a plea deal on Thursday and was sentenced to 10 days in jail.

Robert Lee “Bo” Benac III was the third man to face charges stemming from the June 2017 incident where a shark was seen on video being dragged by a rope from a 22-foot boat near Egmont Key. The men could be heard laughing at the shark on the recording, which was posted to social media and generated widespread outrage.

The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission led the prosecution against Benac and Michael Wenzel, 23, who took a similar plea deal in February, according to the Bradenton Herald.

In addition to the 10-day jail sentence, Benac was given 11 months of probation, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and perform 250 hours of community service, 125 of which must be spent at an animal shelter, the outlet reported. He also lost his fishing license for three years.

Benac pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and violation of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rules.

Benac, Wenzel and Spencer Heintz, 35, were arrested in December 2017, but the charges against Heintz were eventually dropped, according to the Bradenton Herald.

Benac and Wenzel weren’t as lucky.

Following the incident, other videos began to surface involving the men. One showed Wenzel shooting a shark with a .38-caliber revolver and another showed the men pouring alcohol down the throats of fish that were alive, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

“We were confident in what we could do and what we could show, but at the end of the day you can never be 100 percent confident in the jury system …,” Benac’s lawyer, Justin Petredis said. “That was a worry, that the anger and emotions of the jury would outweigh where we were hoping common sense would take over.”

Petredis said Benac took the plea deal because of how widely the videos had been shared online, the outlet reported. Benac also received credit for a day spent in the county jail.

Ex-NFL player accused of trashing his 2 businesses to make it look like a hate crime

A former NFL player has been accused of trashing a restaurant and an ice cream shop he owned near Atlanta to make it look like a hate crime.

Gwinett County police say they found the n-word, “monkey,” “MAGA” and swastikas scrawled on the walls and booths of the two businesses, Create & Bake Pizza and Coughman’s Creamery in Lawrenceville.

Edawn Coughman, 31, of Buford, was arrested Thursday on charges of false reporting a burglary, insurance fraud and concealing a license plate before being bonded out of jail, police said.

EX-NFL DEFENSIVE BACK TERRELL ROBERTS KILLED IN CALIFORNIA SHOOTING: REPORTS

Coughman was signed out of Shaw University to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in 2012 and then spent parts of the next season with the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported Friday. He was claimed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014 and then signed by the Washington Redskins later that season.

Police said in a news release that an officer responded Wednesday night to a 911 call reporting a man damaging the restaurant and the ice cream shop and getting away in a truck without a license plate. The restaurant’s rear door showed signs of a break-in.

When officers pulled over the truck they found Coughman behind the wheel and learned he was the owner of the damaged businesses, according to the news release. In the truck were several TVs that appeared to have been ripped from a wall.

“It’s possible he was trying to stage this as a hate crime,” Cpl. Michele Pihera told the Daily Post. “We don’t know if he was trying to get attention for this. MIT professor defended Jeffrey Epstein associate in leaked emails, claimed victims were ‘entirely willing’

Famed Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) computer scientist Richard Stallman is under fire after a leaked email thread showed him defending an associate of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claiming that his alleged victims were “entirely willing.”

In the email thread, leaked by MIT alum Salam Jie Gano to VICE on Friday, Stallman argued that the late Marvin Minsky – an AI pioneer who died in 2016 and is accused of assaulting one of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Giuffre, – had not actually assaulted anyone.

“The word ‘assaulting’ presumes that he applied force or violence, in some unspecified way, but the article itself says no such thing. Only that they had sex,” he wrote, referring to an article about Giuffre’s testimony against Minsky. “The most plausible scenario is that she presented herself to him an entirely willing.”

RONAN FARROW CLAIMS MIT CONCEALED JEFFREY EPSTEIN DONATIONS FOLLOWING SEX OFFENDER CONVICTION

According to the timestamp on the emails, the exchange occurred on Thursday.

Gano, who first wrote about the email thread on Medium before leaking it to VICE on Friday, said Stallman was responding to a female student’s email about an MIT protest regarding Epstein’s donations to the university.

In the thread, Stallman then argues the definition of “sexual assault,” “rape” and whether they apply to Minsky and Giuffre’s deposition statement.

MIT MEDIA LAB DIRECTOR RESIGNS AFTER REPORT ON FINANCIAL TIES TO JEFFREY EPSTEIN

When a student pointed out that Giuffre was 17 when she was allegedly forced to have sex with Minsky in Epstein’s home in the Virgin Islands, Stallman said “it is morally absurd to define ‘rape’ in a way that depends on minor details such as which country it was in or whether the victim was 18 years old or 17.”

The leak comes as MIT is reeling from mounting criticisms after revelations that its highly acclaimed Media Lab accepted donations from Epstein for many years despite knowing his sex offender conviction – and consciously made efforts to conceal his name from the records.

Ronan Farrow alleged in an expose published in the New Yorker earlier this month that the MIT Media Lab accepted donations from Epstein – and other wealthy donors which whom he served as an intermediary – despite being considered a “disqualified donor.”

The Media Lab’s director, Joichi Ito, resigned after the expose was published.

“After giving the matter a great deal of thought over the past several days and weeks, I think that it is best that I resign as Director of the Media Lab and as a Professor and employee of the Institute, effective immediately,” Ito said in an email to the provost and president of the university that he shared with The New York Times.

Former New Mexico priest, 81, sentenced to 30 years for sex abuse of altar boy

A former Roman Catholic priest who fled the country decades ago was sentenced Friday in New Mexico to 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing an altar boy at a veterans‘ cemetery and military base.

In ordering the sentence, U.S. District Judge Martha Vazquez said it was the worst case of child sex abuse she has handled over the course of 26 years.

At one point, the judge demanded that 81-year-old defendant Arthur Perrault look a woman in the eyes as she testified about being abused by him.

The judge also condemned Perrault for only being concerned about his sexual needs.

“You chose as a profession the life of being a priest. It was supposed to be your job to help, not destroy,” she said.

Prosecutors had asked the judge for special consideration of a life sentence for Perrault, once a pastor at an Albuquerque parish and a chaplain at Kirtland Air Force Base.

He was convicted in April of six counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of abusive sexual contact with a minor under 12.

“It is a long sentence but certainly a fitting one given the length of his conduct and devastating impact,” U.S. Attorney John Anderson said.

Perrault pleaded not guilty after he was returned to the U.S. from Morocco in 2017 and maintained his innocence at the sentencing. His defense team plans to file an appeal.

In this Nov. 29, 2018, file photo, the sun sets on a sign in front of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe offices in Albuquerque, N.M. A former Roman Catholic priest found guilty of sexual abuse in New Mexico is scheduled to be sentenced Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, in Santa Fe, N.M.  (AP)

The abuse counts stemmed from the treatment of one boy at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque and at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The two sites are within federal jurisdiction, which allowed U.S. authorities to file charges with no statute of limitations.

Several people who were not involved in the specific charges were allowed Friday to recount abuse by Perrault and describe their emotional and mental anguish.

Elaine Montoya said her first kiss came from Perrault at the start of a two-year sexual relationship.

“He had convinced me that it was normal … a gift from God,” she told the court.

ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY EXPRESSES ‘PROFOUND SHAME’ FOR BRITISH MASSACRE IN INDIA

Charles Starzynski said his first sexual experience was with Perrault instead of any of the girls he liked. He called the former priest a con man concerned only with his image of sophistication.

“You’re just a jerk,” he said.

In his only comments, Perrault said he had not made initial eye contact with the people who testified because he is hard of hearing and was watching a computer to read transcriptions of what was being said.

He declined several opportunities to make other remarks.

Authorities say their decades-long pursuit of Perrault led them to Morocco — a country that does not have an extradition treaty with the United States — and showed how far they were willing to go to seek justice.

Perrault was in jail at the time and Moroccan officials decided to honor an arrest warrant presented by U.S. authorities.

Perrault is among more than 70 clergy members identified by the Santa Fe Archdiocese as credibly accused of abusing children in New Mexico.

The archdiocese is in bankruptcy proceedings as a result of the abuse scandal.

Perrault first arrived in New Mexico in the 1960s after church officials in Connecticut sent him to a center that treated priests accused of abuse. Located in the Jemez Mountains north of Albuquerque, the facility was operated by the Servants of the Paraclete religious order.

Prosecutors wrote in a recent court filing that they had tried Perrault on a “small fraction” of his crimes, saying he had many more victims. At trial, several men testified that he abused them as children in his car, a church rectory and other locations.

The victim at the center of the prosecutors’ case said Perrault took him on excursions to amusement parks and to the military base in Albuquerque and had touched him inappropriately as many as 100 times starting when he was 10.

The abuse ended in 1992, the year Perrault left the state. An attorney had been preparing two lawsuits at the time against the Archdiocese of Santa Fe alleging Perrault had sexually assaulted seven children.

Three to five members of a New Hampshire high school football team were disciplined after video surfaced showing a wild duck being attacked with a broomstick and then choked to death, according to reports this week.

The incident happened in August at a football camp sponsored by Kennett High School, but the school’s response was still roiling the community a month later.

The video of the duck attack was posted online, local media reported.

“The heinous activity of a duck being hit over the head with a broomstick is what ended up happening,” Conway School District Superintendent Kevin Richard told WMUR-TV Sept. 6.

School district members said three to five boys, believed to be 10th graders and 11th graders, had been punished with game suspensions, the Conway Daily Sun reported Thursday.

They were also ordered to perform community service and undergo mental-health assessment counseling.

The paper quoted an eye doctor as saying she was planning to protest the school district’s handling of the incident at Kennett’s football game Thursday night. It’s unclear if the protest was held.

“There will be a PEACEFUL protest at the Kennett Football home opener, in response to many community members feeling the duck incident has not been sufficiently handled,” Sawyer wrote on Facebook, according to the paper.

On Monday the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department issued a statement saying the agency felt the school acted swiftly and appropriately.

“Regarding the situation w/ the children who killed the duck, the media were not originally aware of the entire situation,” the statement said. “The kids involved did receive substantial consequences.”
