Amanda Knox married in December despite soliciting wedding donations, state documents reveal: report

Newly released court documents revealed Amanda Knox and fiance Christoper Robinson were actually married in December despite recently setting up a public registry to solicit “donations” to help pay for a February wedding.

Documents filed in King County, Wa., obtained by The Telegraph, showed the pair applied for a marriage license on Nov. 21 and were officially married Dec. 7.

But on July 20, Knox posted a video to Instagram asking her followers to “check out” their non-traditional registry for their extraterrestrial-themed wedding. Once on the website, people were prompted to a page set up for donations.

AMANDA KNOX INSISTS SHE’S NOT CROWDFUNDING HER WEDDING DESPITE SHARING PUBLIC REGISTRY ‘ACCEPTING DONATIONS’

“Let’s face it, we don’t need any more stuff. So please, no gifts, and no pressure. But if you feel so inclined, we welcome help putting on the best party ever for our family and friends!” a message from the couple read.

Among the list of possible gifts was a $2,000 donation for “temporal patron.” Guests were also asked to donate to defray the open bar and dinner costs.

But Knox, 32, fired back with a statement to the British outlet saying the winter paperwork was more of a formality than an actual wedding celebration.

“We filed paperwork to be legally married in December of last year to simplify our taxes and insurance,” the statement read. Meanwhile, the wedding set for Leap Day next year was meant to be a celebration “with our loved ones.”

It’s not clear if Knox or Robinson ever revealed they were legally married prior to Thursday’s reports.

Knox came under fire last month after she was accused of crowdfunding her wedding, but in her statement Thursday she said her recent trip to Italy to attend an event by the Italy Innocence Project set her back financially.

“The trip was a financial setback for us and we were forced to use funds we’d been saving for our wedding,” which she said included $10,000 on security measures and travel expenses.

She did admit, however, to also receiving a significant amount of money from the organization to attend the speaking event.

Knox’s trip to Italy in June was her first trip to the European country since she was acquitted of the murder and sexual assault of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher.

Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were initially convicted in 2009 of Kercher’s slaying in the hilltop university town. She was acquitted in 2011 on appeal after spending four years in custody, and she immediately returned to Seattle.

The murder conviction was reinstated in 2014, but she was finally, definitively acquitted in 2015 by Italy’s highest court.

CHILD PORN INVESTIGATION ENSNARES MIAMI-DADE COUNTY DAY CARE

Guido Germano, 59, was arrested on June 19 after allegedly distributing child porn through “peer-to-peer” software and downloading the videos to his personal computer at his home in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

He works as the Division of Artificial Intelligence Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles. He also was on the editorial board of three medical journals, KTLA reported, citing a recently removed biography from Cedars-Sinai’s website.

Germano faces one felony count of distribution of obscene matter and possession of child pornography, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office. He was released on bond and is due back for arraignment Thursday at Foltz Criminal Justice Center, the Santa Monica Sun reported.

Biden under attack from all sides at Wednesday’s debate; Mystery surrounds death of bin Laden’s son

Good morning and welcome to Fox News First. Here’s what you need to know as you start your day …

Biden under fire from all sides on Night 2 in Detroit
Joe Biden seemed better prepared Wednesday in Detroit than he was last month in Miami as nine other would-be 2020 Democratic nominees took aim at his long record during the second round of the presidential primary debates. But he also found out that, not quite three years after he and President Obama left the White House, the Democratic Party of 2019 may no longer be the party of Obama. The former vice president tried keep his focus on President Trump and preview the general election battle he hopes to wage in 2020. But every other candidate quickly looked to score points by taking him out, and Biden spent the better part of the night fighting off their withering attacks.

The Democratic presidential primary front-runner sought to avoid a repeat of last month’s damaging clash with Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., but he faced the additional challenge in Detroit from Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J. The two senators tore into Biden’s record on everything from health care to immigration to criminal justice reform — as other candidates including New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also took aim at the former veep. But Booker, who has struggled for months in the polls, was arguably toughest this time around, calling out Biden at one point for ducking a question on what advice he gave Obama on deportations.

Surrounded by candidates demanding that illegal border crossings be decriminalized, Biden struggled to push back. After all, some critics often called President Obama the “deporter-in-chief.” Booker dinged him for saying he wanted to “cherry-pick” the best and brightest immigrants, arguing it was pitting one set of immigrants against another. Uncensored, Booker elaborated to suggest it demeans some as being from “s—hole countries,” in a reference to a comment Trump reportedly once made.

The big winners and losers of Wednesday’s Democratic debate were …
Doug Schoen, a Fox News contributor and Democratic consultant, believes that despite the onslaught of attacks, Joe Biden emerged as the clear winner of Wednesday’s debate. However, Biden, Schoen says, faces a lingering question on whether he can win the support of progressives who believe the former VP is too moderate. Two of his greatest roadblocks to the Democratic nomination — U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. — did not share the stage with him Wednesday. “Despite Biden’s strong performance and solid frontrunner status, it is clear that the party has seismically shifted away from the centrist Democratic Party of the 1990s, making his path to the nomination far from certain,” Schoen writes. Mystery surrounds the reported death of Usama bin Laden’s son
Hamza bin Laden, a son of Usama bin Laden, has died, according to multiple reports Wednesday. But the circumstances of his reported death remained a mystery. The date, location and other circumstances surrounding the death weren’t released. President Trump and top administration officials have chosen not to comment. The State Department in February had offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Usama bin Laden’s son. Hamza bin Laden was named a “specially designated global terrorist” in January 2017. He was not the head of Al Qaeda but had risen in prominence within the terror network his father founded, and the group may be grooming him to stand as a leader for a young generation of militants.

Ghosts of Elijah Cummings’ Baltimore past come back to haunt him
House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., previously referred to his community of Baltimore as a “drug-infested” area, using a term that President Trump included in a tweet widely panned as a racist attack on the city. The video, tweeted by the president Wednesday, showed Cummings lamenting the city’s scourge of drugs while speaking during what appeared to be a congressional hearing. “This morning, I left my community of Baltimore — a drug-infested area where a lot of the drugs we are talking about today have already taken the lives of so many children,” he said.

Astros land an ace in surprising deal; two dozen trades on MLB’s deadline day
Out of nowhere, the AL West-leading Houston Astros got a huge boost heading toward MLB’s postseason. On a dizzying day before baseball’s trade deadline, the Astros pulled off the biggest and most startling deal, adding ace Zack Greinke to an imposing rotation already loaded with All-Stars Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole. Plenty of familiar names were on the move Wednesday — Shane Greene and Mark Melancon boosted the Braves’ bullpen, with Scooter Gennett, Jesús Aguilar, Mike Leake and Tanner Roark among those also changing teams. But it was the Astros’ acquisition of Greinke from Arizona for four minor leaguers that quickly became the talk of baseball. – Associated Press

A Nevada school district has eliminated separate male and female restrooms in its floor design for newly constructed schools, instead opting for gender-neutral facilities.

MISSOURI SCHOOL DISTRICT EMBRACES GENDER-NEUTRAL BATHROOMS

The Washoe County School District said Wednesday that newly built elementary and middle schools in the district will have gender-neutral restrooms complete with wall-to-ceiling stalls. All students will share a handwashing station in an open space of the restroom, Reno’s KTVN-TV reported.

“The architects and the school board really wanted us to come up with a new design for the student restrooms,” Adam Searcy, chief facilities officer at the Washoe County School District, said. “When you go into traditional restrooms, it’s an area where some students don’t really feel safe.”

In theory, the stalls that stretch from wall to ceiling will provide students with more privacy and help combat problems that the district has experienced in the past of students using cell phones to take photos of others underneath or over traditional restroom stalls, Searcy said.

The shared handwashing station located in an open space will allow school teachers and staff to more easily monitor students, Searcy also told KTVN.

Bell–also known as Tone or Ghost– was nabbed at the motel on Wednesday with about $12,000 in cash and cocaine, the Detroit Free Press reported. A woman was also arrested.

Bell, a U.S. citizen, escaped arrest on Jan. 12, 2017 when more than 200 law enforcement personnel descended on the Victoria Inn to break up the operation. Women who lived at the motel were allegedly drugged and forced through coercion, threats and isolation to perform commercial sex acts for the financial benefit of Bell and his associates, ICE said.

Attorneys for Fotis Dulos say reports that investigators found a blood-stained T-shirt and bra that may be what his client’s estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, was wearing on the day she disappeared sound “like desperate speculation.”

“I am unaware of any evidence about what she was wearing when she disappeared,” Dulos’ attorney Norm Pattis said in a statement responding to reports by The Hartford Courant.

JENNIFER DULOS’ MOTHER GRANTED CUSTODY OF HER CHILDREN AS HER WHEREABOUTS STILL REMAIN UNKNOWN

The paper reported Wednesday that the items of clothing, including a Vineyard Vines T-shirt that family members say the Hartford mom wore,  were uncovered after police sifted through tons of trash.

Fox News also confirmed that Dulos’ defense team received 26 CDs in discovery that prosecutors say show a man that appears to be Fotis Dulos dumping bags of trash “which appeared to be stained with a substance consistent with the appearance of blood,” along Albany Avenue starting on the day his wife disappeared, according to court documents.

Pattis said that he was unable to view some of the footage on the CDs, and has asked Stamford/Norwalk State’s Attorney Richard Colangelo for new copies of several of the discs.

The 50-year-old mother of five was last seen dropping off her kids at their school in New Canaan, Conn. Her 2017 black Chevy Suburban was found near Waveny Park with no sign of her.

Fotis and Jennifer Dulos were in the midst of a bitter divorce and custody battle over their children– three boys and two girls ranging in ages from 8 to 13.

In the wake of her disappearance, a judge has granted Jennifer’s mother, Gloria Farber, custody of the children as they continue with the ongoing investigation.

Fotis Dulos, 51, and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, 44, are out on $500,000 bail after being charged with evidence tampering and hindering prosecution in relation to the missing-person investigation.

Dulos is due to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 9 and is expected to face further charges.

An aspiring pastor from Iowa who had been married for three days drowned Tuesday while honeymooning in Florida, officials say.

Dalton Cottrell and his wife Cheyenne Hedrick, both 22, were in the water at Crescent Beach in Saint Augustine, Fla., when a strong current swept both of them out into the ocean, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department incident report obtained by Fox News.

FLORIDA BEACHGOERS, WILDLIFE OFFICIALS RESCUE 5 STRANDED PILOT WHALES

Hedrick told police that it was Cottrell’s first time in the ocean and he began to “freak out,” pulling her underwater with him as she tried to save him. She added that her husband bobbed above the surface after about a minute of being under and she saw his eyes roll back in his head.

William Loy, another beachgoer, heard the couple yelling in the ocean and alerted a St. Johns County lifeguard.

The lifeguard dragged Cottrell, who was foaming at the mouth, to shore on his paddleboard and attempted to perform CPR.

Cottrell was rushed to Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine where he was pronounced dead.

Cottrell and Hedrick were both seniors at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary in Ankeny, Iowa. The school said in a statement that the couple had married on Saturday in Kansas City.

“I would like to encourage Eagle Nation to pray for, love, and support both Cheyenne and Dalton’s family,” school president Dr. Jim Tillotson said in a statement. ” … May we do all we can to support all of them through this difficult time.”

A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday night at the couple’s church in Des Moines.

Mississippi farmers suffering after widespread flooding prevents crops from being planted

ROLLING FORK, Miss. — The time to get crops like soy beans, cotton and corn in the ground have come and gone for many farmers in the Mississippi Delta. Months of flooding from record rainfall and backed up waterways, which were shut off from draining into the Mississippi River, has flooded more than a million acres of land and squandered away the growing season.

The thought of starting over has crossed the mind of farmer Parker Adcock, 25, consistently. He stood and exhaled slowly as he looked around his home that he, his pregnant wife and their young daughter were displaced from after 10 inches of floodwater moved in this spring. The water is out of the home; however, it now sits infested with mold and insects of all sorts.

“The first time we came back and saw this, I was in tears looking at all of this,” he said. “If you’re not tied to the land, I’d be getting out.”

Leaving isn’t an option for the young farmer. He’s committed to 4,000 acres of farmland (about 6 square miles), most of which is left useless this year as it sits in slow-receding floodwater. He’s been able to plant some corn crops on about 175 acres — about 4 percent of his land — but it won’t yield him nearly enough to get him through the year.

The 25-year-old estimates his damages will total somewhere in the 7-figure range after his property damage is assessed; and even though his financial means have vanished for the year, his operational costs have not.

“Land owners still want their rent money, regardless of whether I made a crop or not. John Deere still wants to get paid for the tractor sitting in the shed that I never got to pull out for the year,” he said. “I have to figure out a way to come with all that and still be able to farm again next year.”

In May, Billy Whitten had been hopeful that the floodwater that had inundated more than a million acres of land in the Mississippi Delta would be gone by now. He and others hoped they would be able to get some crops planted this season. That hope has dissipated as most of his 1,400-acre farm in Valley Park, Miss. is drowning in water.

“There’s no way we can plant anything this year,” Whitten said. “It’s past the planting time.”

Aside from his duties on his own farm, Whitten sits on the board of the Valley Park Grain Elevator. The elevator buys grain harvested buy local farmers, stockpiles it and then later sells it. However, business has been down by as much as 75 percent this year.

The 10-member board has done what it can to make sure its employees have had a source of income, but it’s getting to a point where tough business decisions are going to have to be made.

“We’ve got several employees that work there. We’re hoping that we won’t have to lay any of them off, but it’s a good chance some of them will lose their job because of this.”

Rain and flooding have been a struggle for farmers across the country this year. From March 2018 to April 2019, an average of 36.20 inches of rain fell across the Lower 48 states — the nation’s wettest 12-month period on record, according to the USDA.

Corn and soybean crops have taken a hit as a result of the record precipitation. U.S. corn planting failed to reach the halfway mark by mid-May this year. For the first time on record, less than 50 percent of intended corn crops had been planted. Comparably, the USDA reported 19 percent of U.S. crops had been planted during the same time period — the lowest amount for soybeans since 1996.

Mike McCormick, president of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, said the difference between other farm communities that border the Mississippi River are pumps. There is no system in place to pump water out of the Mississippi Delta during record rain and flood events like this year.

“It’s a chronic event for us. 41 percent of the United States is drained right by our border here in Mississippi. Because of the record amount of rainfall, we’re having, we’ve basically turned Mississippi into a flood control structure for the rest of the United States,” McCormick said. “We definitely need the pumps to help the south Delta, but we also need a new plan on the Mississippi River and how we’re going to drain it.”

The Environmental Protection Agency had planned on installing pumps in the region, but the project was vetoed in 2008. When asked about the current status of the project, the EPA said it was working on getting a response.

Adcock is trying to look ahead to the future. But his anxiety, due to this year’s flood event, is so high he’s having nightmares where he’s surrounded by water.

“It’s been mentally exhausting,” he said. “If this happens again, I’m done. Nobody can survive two years of this.”

Responding officers found a homemade shotgun near where the suspect was sitting, KSEE reported. A bomb team that examined the weapon determined it was fabricated and contained a spent shotgun shell.

Bais was later located and arrested, the Bee reported. He allegedly had in his possession two methamphetamine pipes and more ammunition, the report said.
