A New Jersey man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for stabbing to death a retired Catholic school teacher during a dispute over feeding pigeons at a local park.

Charles Lowy, 69, stabbed 77-year-old Anthony Bello in April 2018, NJ.com reported. Lowy was convicted of reckless manslaughter this past July.

CALIFORNIA, NEW JERSEY WELL REPRESENTED ON LIST OF ‘MISERABLE’ US CITIES

Lowy’s defense attorney reportedly said it was the 69-year-old’s routine of feeding the birds by scattering food in a circle around him that set off the argument between the two men in Pershing Field Park in Jersey City.

Lowy had left the scene by the time police found Bello, who had been walking through the park on his way to church, bleeding and unresponsive, the paper reported. The retired school teacher had a stab wound in his chest. He later died at a hospital.

The defense argued that Bello was the aggressor and Lowy had stabbed him in self-defense, the paper reported.

Under the state’s No Early Release Act, Lowy won’t be eligible for parole until he’s served 85 percent of his sentence, according to the paper. He would have faced life in prison if convicted of murder.

Limestone County sheriff’s deputies said Case left home with the 13-month-old boy Friday evening to go “dumpster diving.” They said she left the child in the car when she returned home around 5:40 a.m. Saturday.

She awoke around 1:30 p.m. Saturday when her mother arrived, and they found the boy still in the car. Deputies said Case put the child in the shower and her mother called 911.

Colorado woman charged by 2 moose during hike, escapes unharmed

A Colorado woman’s quick thinking helped her avoid serious injury after a pair of moose charged her while she was on a recent hike.

Audrey Dickinson of Fort Collins was hiking the Uneva Pass near Copper Mountain, located between Vail and Silverthorne, when she spotted a moose appear from the woods.

“I know you should be 75 feet from them and I was 200 feet from them,” she told FOX31.

As she was watching the first moose, a second animal then showed up as she began to back away. Video taken by Dickinson showed the moose walking in the distance and staring at her before eventually charging towards her as she ran away.

Dickinson said she had to hide behind a tree several times to avoid being hit by the moose.

“I thought about going to a switchback behind me, but when I started moving, they started running again,” she told FOX31. “So I got back to the tree.”

SIX ELEPHANTS FALL TO THEIR DEATH TRYING TO SAVE EACH OTHER AT THAI WATERFALL

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said peak mating season for moose and elk — known as “the rut” –lasts through early October. The agency has warned motorists to be aware of animals that are more active, easily distracted and potentially more aggressive.

“Both bulls and cows are aggressive during the breeding season, with bulls often fighting head to head until the dominant bull drives off, injures, or even kills the challenger,” the agency states.

That also applies to people enjoying the outdoors. The agency told FOX31 that people should remember to give plenty of space for wildlife, including putting an object between oneself and an animal.

Dickinson said she was eventually able to get away after standing by a tree for another few minutes.

“It could have been much worse,” she told FOX31. “It’s never worth it. I was really looking forward to this nice, long hike. The hike will be there another day.”

Massachusetts nursing home resident, 76, dies after assault by roommate, 83, officials say

A 76-year-old man living at a Massachusetts nursing home died Saturday night after he was allegedly attacked by his 83-year-old roommate, officials said

Investigators responded to a report of an assaultive patient at the Oxford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Haverhill, a city roughly 40 miles north of Boston, the Essex District Attorney’s Office said.

Robert Boucher, 76, was found suffering from injuries from a physical assault, Essex District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Carrie Kimball told Fox News on Monday. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

NURSING HOME STAFFERS ACCUSED OF TAUNTING DEMENTIA PATIENT, 91; OUTRAGED FAMILY SUES

Boucher’s roommate — Jose Veguilla, 83 — was arrested and taken to the hospital for an evaluation. He’s scheduled to be arraigned at Haverhill District Court on Monday.

Kimball said officials don’t know what sparked the alleged assault, but said there “may be a question of competency” regarding Veguilla.

“[The patients] all got to see the body rolled out,” Erika Wallace said. “I don’t know why they wouldn’t keep them in their rooms but my dad got to see it, so he’s going through having to see the crushed skull. It was just really traumatic.”

New Jersey man allegedly beaten over MAGA hat claims NYC art pop-up got his attackers drunk

A New Jersey man sued an art pop-up event organizer, the gallery and the building owner Friday in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleging they’re responsible for getting his attackers drunk — even though he said one was underage — before they brutally injured him in July for wearing a pro-Trump “Make America Great Again” hat, according to a report.

Jahangir Turan, 42, of Hoboken, said the “dangerous, unruly and belligerent group” got drunk at an “ABC Angels Club pop-up” event on Canal Street in downtown New York City before later attacking him, the New York Post reported Sunday.

The gallery, Wallplay, building owners United American Land and one of the event organizers, photographer Anna Bloda, were named in the lawsuit. The attackers have not been identified.

MAN IN ‘MAGA’ HAT ASSAULTED IN CALIFORNIA RESTAURANT BATHROOM; SUSPECT ARRESTED, POLICE SAY

Turan said in the lawsuit the three parties were “directly responsible” for “gross negligence” because alcohol was served at the event “without an appropriate license.” At least one of his attackers was under 21, Turan alleged.

One attacker knocked Turan’s MAGA hat off his head before two other people smashed his “head and face into the metal scaffolding,” the lawsuit claimed.

Turan suffered a fractured eye socket and sought damages for “substantial injuries, pain, suffering and emotional distress.”

Bloda told the Post she felt badly, “but it’s nothing to do with me.”

“I’m broke. I’m an artist hardly surviving in New York,” she told the newspaper. “I don’t know what happened — I don’t know these people. They were a bunch of skater kids who had nothing to do with me, and they all refused to say who was responsible because they were loyal to each other.”

She also said everybody who attended the event was at least 21.

“I respect everybody’s political opinions and rights to believe what they want. It’s a very bad thing that happened but it’s got nothing to do with me,” she added.

None of the parties being sued returned Fox News’ requests for comment. An email to United American Land was returned as undeliverable.

Homeless man confessed to deadly attacks in New York City, prosecutor says

A homeless man confessed to fatally bludgeoning four sleeping vagrants and critically injuring a fifth during a bloody rampage through Chinatown, a prosecutor said in court on Sunday.

Randy Santos, 24, came clean when cops confronted him with evidence of the grisly attacks, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Alfred Peterson said.

“While he was in the 5th Precinct, he was shown video of the attacks and he admitted that he was the person in the video,” Peterson said.

Peterson also revealed that the weapon Santos allegedly used – described by law enforcement sources as a 3-foot, 15-pound piece of construction metal – was “covered in blood and hair” when cops caught him carrying it over his shoulder.

Nabbing Santos likely prevented further carnage, because “the way he was walking, it looked like he was looking for more victims,” a source has said.

Car plunges into Delaware canal; at least 3 dead, 1 missing, police say

An 18-year-old driver and two boys — ages 12 and 16 — died after their car plunged into a Delaware canal Sunday morning, investigators said.

The driver helped a 16-year-old girl to safety before he died in an attempt to rescue three boys, two of whom were found dead after the car was pulled from the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, Delaware State Police said.

Emergency responders found the driver’s body in the waters a short time later and the two boys’ bodies were still in the vehicle when it was pulled from the canal shortly after 5 p.m., state police said.

They said a 6-year-old boy also riding in the car wasn’t found inside when it was removed and the child remained missing.

None of the victims was immediately identified, pending notification of relatives. State police said the search for the missing 6-year-old was continuing.

A state police collision reconstruction unit was continuing to investigate how the car went into the canal about a mile west of a State Route 1 bridge, officials said.

A state police spokesman, Master Cpl. Michael Austin, praised the driver, who was found dead in the canal, for trying to rescue the others.

“He was a hero,” Austin said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. “He tried to do everything he could to help the remaining passengers in that vehicle.”

The man worked to free the girl, whom first responders later found sitting on the banks of the canal after a bystander called 911, the Delaware News Journal reported.

Austin said the driver and the boys were related and that the girl was an acquaintance. All lived in Delaware.

Crews from multiple law enforcement agencies worked for hours to remove the car from the water Sunday in what was being described as a recovery operation.

The canal is about 35 feet deep, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Oregon Taco Bell customer who slashed man’s throat sentenced to 7 years in prison, report says

A knife-wielding Maryland woman who slashed a man’s throat at a Taco Bell in Oregon this past July — after he told her to “zip it” for berating the staff — was sentenced Thursday to 7 years in prison, according to a report.

Caley Mason, 22, pleaded guilty in Clackamas County in September to second-degree assault in the knife attack that gave 48-year-old Jason Luczkow an 8-inch gash across his face and throat and required 100 stitches.

On July 9, Luczkow said he walked into a Taco Bell in Sandy – about 30 miles east of Portland – and saw Mason, clad in a blonde wig, yelling at the employees for taking too long.

“Apparently the management had already told her to leave,” Luczkow said. “As she continued to rant and rave, I told her to be quiet. Told her to zip it.”

Mason left the restaurant but returned moments later with a knife and attacked Luczkow, Det. Sam Craven told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Mason then sped off in a silver Kia Soul, nearly running over his wife in the process, Luczkow said. Police said they pulled her over with her boyfriend and two young children – ages 2 and 4 – in the car, according to Clackamas County prosecutor Matt Semritc.

Craven said police found Mason’s blonde wig “in the boyfriend’s pants.”

Mason was arrested and indicted on multiple criminal counts, including attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, according to records cited by The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Mason’s boyfriend, Phillip Thomas, was arrested for tampering with physical evidence but his case later was dismissed, the records showed.

Prosecutors said Mason was on state supervision for an armed robbery of a pizza deliveryman in Maryland. Her children, meanwhile, have been sent back to Maryland with a relative, investigators added.

A man and three children remained missing Sunday off the coast of Maine after a Coast Guard search failed to find them or their capsized boat.

The search covered 1,523 nautical miles and was called off by the Coast Guard around 8 a.m. Sunday.

“We take all calls for help seriously,” Coast Guard search-and-rescue mission coordinator Cmdr. Jame McLay said, according to Fox 25 Boston.
