Florida principal told parent he ‘can’t say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event’

The principal of a Florida high school allegedly refused to say the Holocaust actually happened because “not everyone believes” the historical event — in which more than six million people were murdered — actually happened.

William Latson, principal of Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, told a student’s mother via email in April 2018 he was not allowed to say whether the Holocaust occurred because of his employment with the School District of Palm Beach County.

EVA KOR, HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR, DIES PEACEFULLY AT AGE 85

“I can’t say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in a position to do so as a school district employee,” Latson wrote in an email, later published by The Palm Beach Post.

“Not everyone believes the Holocaust happened and you have your thoughts but we are a public school and not all of our parents have the same beliefs so they will react differently, my thoughts or beliefs have nothing to do with this because I am a public servant,” the principal said. “I have the role to be politically neutral but support all groups in the school.”

Latson added: “I do allow information about the Holocaust to be presented and allow students and parents to make decisions about it accordingly.” He said he does the “same with information about slavery.”

In another email, Latson said the school’s curriculum, which reportedly includes Holocaust education in English and history classes, “is to be introduced but not forced upon individuals as we all have the same rights but not all the same beliefs.”

DUTCH POLITICIAN APOLOGIZES FOR CALLING JEWS ‘MEEK LAMBS’ DURING THE HOLOCAUST

The response to the student’s mother reportedly came after she questioned what Holocaust education would be provided for her child.

Latson apologized for his comments in a statement to the Post, explaining he regrets “the verbiage that I used when responding to an email message from a parent, one year ago, did not accurately reflect my professional and personal commitment to educating all students about the atrocities of the Holocaust.”

“It is critical that, as a society, we hold dear the memory of the victims and hold fast to our commitment to counter anti-Semitism,” the principal continued.

The Jewish population in Palm Beach County is 134,200 adults and children in 69,000 households, according to a study conducted by Brandeis University published in 2018.

A Change.org petition calling for Latson’s resignation received more than 6,300 signatures as of Monday afternoon.

Washington area hit by flash flooding, stranding drivers and soaking White House basement

A morning rainstorm creating a treacherous commute across the nation’s capital on Monday, as numerous roads were washed out amid flash flooding — and even the White House basement ended up getting soaked.

The National Weather Service said “torrential rainfall” across the Washington D.C. metro area spawned a Flash Flood Emergency that warned of life-threatening situations.

“If you are in this FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY area, travel will be EXTRAORDINARILY dangerous, including washouts, #flooding over roads. Stay out of low areas, if in a low area that may flood, seek higher ground,” the agency warned on Twitter. “Stay off the roads if at all possible. This is not the ‘usual’ flooding.”

Fox News Meteorologist Adam Klotz said on “America’s Newsroom” the conditions for major flooding came together directly over the area.

The ground across the capital region was already saturated, having seen up to six inches of rain in the past week, according to Klotz.

“That means this additional rain, where you’ve seen a couple of inches of the past couple of hours, there’s nowhere for it to go,” Klotz said.

NWS meteorologist Cody Ledbetter told the Associated Press the storm dumped about 6.3 inches of rain near Frederick, Maryland, about 4.5 inches near Arlington, Virginia, and about 3.4 inches at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in a two-hour period.

Emergency crews across the area were dispatched to multiple water rescues in areas like Germantown, Frederick, Fairfax County and in Washington D.C., FOX5 reported.

A spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire Department, Pete Piringer, said that emergency workers in the Maryland county used boats for dozens of rescues, plucking people from flooded cars. There were no reports of storm-related injuries, but several accidents were also reported.

Klotz said that the line of storms has since moved south of the metro area, and that clearing skies will give the area a chance to dry off as the day progress. After this morning’s onslaught, dry conditions are expected to continue this week, according to Klotz.

Lightning hits boat in Boston harbor, explosive video shows

This electrifying moment was captured on camera.

As powerful thunderstorms rolled through Massachusetts and New England on Saturday, one man was recording as lightning struck a nearby boat in South Boston.

Harry Minucci told Storyful the vessel was moored at the Columbia Yacht Club marina in South Boston.

LIGHTNING STRIKE IN SOUTH CAROLINA KILLS AT LEAST 1; OTHERS INJURED: REPORTS

Minucci said he took out his camera after seeing the lightning strikes in the distance, but couldn’t believe it when he captured the moment the lightning bolt hit the boat.

The vessel’s owner wasn’t on the boat at the time and no injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service’s Boston office issued an area flood warning Saturday afternoon as thunderstorms moved through the area. The storms produced up to 1.4 inches of rainfall and brought the threat of urban and poor drainage flooding.

Video of the lightning strike caught the attention of the NWS’s office, which said on Twitter it was “a great example of why we say ‘When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!'”

2 GIRAFFES AT FLORIDA WILDLIFE PARK SUFFER ‘INSTANTANEOUS’ DEATHS AFTER LIGHTNING STRIKE, OFFICIALS SAY

So far this year, there have been seven lightning strike-related deaths this year, according to the NWS. Those deaths were reported in Florida, Texas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Alabama.

Lighting typically strikes tall objects such as trees and skyscrapers because their tops are closer to the base of the storm cloud, according to The National Severe Storms Laboratory.

“However, this does not always mean tall objects will be struck. It all depends on where the charges accumulate,” according to the agency. “Lightning can strike the ground in an open field even if the tree line is close by.”

Lightning known as a “bolt from the blue” can also strike from as far away as 25 miles away from a thunderstorm cloud, even when there appear to be clear skies, according to the NSSL.

“They can be especially dangerous because they appear to come from clear blue sky,” the agency states.

Virginia dad fires 39 shots at naked ‘devil’ who broke into family’s home on first night living there: report

A Virginia dad on Thursday fired 39 warning shots and brawled with a naked woman who called herself “the devil” after she allegedly broke into the family’s home on their first night living there, according to reports.

The violent confrontation happened in Chesterfield County on the evening of the Fourth of July, police said.

A female suspect who was naked and with blue hair in a ponytail broke into the family’s home and refused to leave, telling them: “I’m the devil,” WRIC reported.

The dad of the family fired 39 “warning shots” at the intruder, but she was undeterred, WTVR reported. A brawl broke out between the woman and the family — including the 12-year-old son, the station reported.

Punches and furniture were reportedly thrown about. The fight ended after the 12-year-old shoved a wrench into the intruder’s neck, WRIC reported.

“She had the strength of four grown men,” the father later told the station.

Both the dad and the intruder were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Neither of their identifies was released.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to repair the damage to the family’s new home. A photo on the page shows the walls ridden with bullet holes and blood strewn about the flood.

Trump blasts media over ‘exaggerated’ border detention center reports; Dem civil war over border bill

Good morning and welcome to Fox News First. Here’s what you need to know as you start the day and the new work week …

Trump faults Democrats for crowded border detention centers, accuses media of ‘phony and exaggerated’ reports
President Trump on Sunday accused the “Fake News Media” of spreading “phony and exaggerated accounts of the Border Detention Centers” while blaming Democrats for the crowded conditions of the holding facilities. “The Fake News Media, in particular the Failing @nytimes, is writing phony and exaggerated accounts of the Border Detention Centers,” Trump tweeted. “First of all, people should not be entering our Country illegally, only for us to then have to care for them.” In his tweet, Trump also added the following: “We said there was a Crisis – the Fake News & the Dems said it was “manufactured.” Now all agree we were right, but they always knew that. They are crowded (which we brought up, not them) because the Dems won’t change the Loopholes and Asylum. Big Media Con Job!”

Ken Cuccinelli, acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, took aim at Congress in an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” accusing them of complaining about a crisis at the border they have done nothing to solve. Meanwhile, in an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., agreed with fellow freshman progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., about the conditions of detention centers along the U.S.-Mexico border and claimed AOC was right to compare them to Nazi concentration camps. Expect the war of words over this issue to continue to rage on this week.

‘Sorry, not sorry’: Border bill battle underscores Dem civil war
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., on Sunday joined Democrats who took issue with a recent interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who criticized the influence of the four freshmen lawmakers who voted against the $4.6 billion border bill signed into law last week by President Trump. In a New York Times interview, Pelosi downplayed the influence of Omar, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass. to “their public whatever” and Twitter following. Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to explain to Pelosi, 79, that “public ‘whatever’ is called public sentiment.” “And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country,” she continued. Omar wrote in response to Ocasio-Cortez, “Patetico! You know they’re just salty about WHO is wielding the power to shift “public sentiment” these days, sis. Sorry not sorry.”

Trump: ‘Iran better be careful’
President Trump lobbed a strong warning to Iran on Sunday after the rogue nation announced it had ratcheted up its uranium enrichment beyond the limit allowed by the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. “Iran better be careful. … Iran is doing a lot of bad things,” Trump said. “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.” Iran has said it was inching its program closer toward weapons-grade levels, while calling for a diplomatic solution to a crisis that has raised tensions with the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted on Sunday that Iran’s actions would “lead to further isolation and sanctions.”

Biden says he waited until right ‘opportunity’ to apologize for remarks on working with segregationist senators
Former Vice President Joe Biden may have stepped all over his apology for working with segregationist senators. The current 2020 Democratic front-runner says he waited until right “opportunity” to apologize for remarks on working with segregationist senators. He said his apology Saturday, delivered to a mostly black audience of several hundred in Sumter, S.C., was “the first opportunity we had to do it in a fulsome way.” South Carolina is the first Southern state to vote in next year’s primary and a crucial proving ground for candidates seeking the support of black Democrats. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., said Sunday she was happy Biden apologized but there was “plenty of disagreement” between the two 2020 presidential hopefuls.

Epstein due in court
Politically-connected hedge fund manager Jeffrey Epstein is expected to appear in court Monday following his arrest this weekend on new sex-trafficking charges involving allegations that date to the early 2000s, according to law enforcement officials. Epstein, who has been tied to former President Bill Clinton, President Trump, and Great Britain’s Prince Andrew, has been accused of paying underage girls for massages and sexually abusing them at his mansion in Palm Beach, Fla., and in New York City. His 72-acre private estate on the Virgin Islands, a home said to be nicknamed “Orgy Island,” also has been under scrutiny. Christine Pelosi, a Democratic National Committee official and daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, tweeted that it is “quite likely that some of our faves are implicated” in the Epstein case.

US women’s soccer team are World Cup champs once again – but will they accept an invitation to the White House?
Now that the U.S. women’s soccer team has won its fourth the Women’s World Cup, the big question is whether the team will accept an invitation to celebrate at the White House. President Trump unequivocally congratulated the team after its repeat World Cup win on Sunday — putting aside, at least for the moment, the firestorm surrounding star forward Megan Rapinoe’s vow never to visit the White House.

Rapinoe, the pink-haired team captain who emerged with the Golden Ball as top player and the Golden Boot as top scorer, has been an outspoken opponent of what she’s described as systemic gender inequality in the United States and Trump, vowing to never visit the White House. On Saturday, Rapinoe said that she believed that “not many, if any” of her teammates would visit the White House if they won the final against the Netherlands.

Massachusetts man accidentally sold wife’s bike – given to her by Holocaust-surviving father – during yard sale: reports

A Massachusetts man mistakenly sold a vintage bike that was gifted to his wife by her Holocaust-surviving father more than 45 years ago and is now desperate to get it back, according to reports.

Newtown resident Allan Steinmetz sold his wife’s 1970s yellow Motobecane French Touring bike during neighborhood yard sale last month.

The bike, which sat unused in the couple’s garage for more than 40 years, was given to Steinmetz’s by her father when she was 16, Boston’s WFXT reported.

“The bike is absolutely priceless to not only my wife but to her family, my children, and she wanted to give this bike to out granddaughter one day, which I didn’t know,” Steinmetz said.

Steinmetz said he put the bike up for sale on a whim, having been distracted by counting money and managing transactions during the yard sale.

“It was important to my wife, I didn’t realize how…and that was the biggest mistake I’ve this year so far,” Steinmetz told “Bicycling.”

His wife’s father, a Holocaust survivor, had customized the bike – which was then considered the top of the line – because “he wanted my wife to feel as special as she was,” Steinmetz said.

Steinmetz has been pulling all the stops since accidentally selling the bike on June 27, having scoured bike shops and posting online. His efforts even got the attention of former Massachusetts Senator John Kerry.

“Massachusetts: Hope we can help this nice man from Newton!” Kerry tweeted. “As a husband, and as a son who never forgot those sentimental objects from my pa, this strikes a chord – and knowing her father was a Holocaust survivor makes it all the more poignant.”

But despite Steinmetz’ efforts, the bike remains missing.

“I was reckless and inconsiderate, and I took for granted how important the bike was to her,” Steinmetz said. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to get it back.

Second son dies a week after mom’s drowning attempt: report

A 7-year-old boy was taken off life support Sunday at California’s Valley Children’s Hospital while surrounded by family a week after authorities believe his mother took him and his 12-year-old brother to a rural irrigation ditch and tried to drown them.

Deputies found Jackson Telnas, 12, and his 7-year-old brother, Jacob Ray Telnas, unresponsive in an irrigation ditch full of water last Saturday in Porterville, Calif., according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and local media. Jackson had suffered a traumatic brain injury, likely the result of drowning, the Visalia Times Delta reported.

“They had an hour with Jacob Ray to love up on him, Jacob got a chance to spend time with him and tell him how much he loves him,” Diana Keeland, their grandmother told ABC 7.

Sherri Telnas, 45, who was arraigned last week, had already faced one count of murder with the special circumstance of lying in wait, the report said. She could be eligible for the death penalty.

She allegedly told deputies that she drowned the kids because they were possessed.

Jackson was 10 months old when Telnas tried to drown him in the Clark Fork River in Montana in 2008, the Mineral Independent reported at the time. During questioning, Telnas said “bad thoughts or voices” had told her to drown the baby, according to the paper.

In 2009 she pleaded guilty to lesser counts of criminal endangerment and was placed on probation for 20 years, according to the Independent.

18-year-old pageant queen and pilot dies in fiery plane crash

An 18-year-old pilot, who was set to compete in a Mississippi pageant later this month, died when she crashed on a golf course, officials said Sunday.

Lake Little, the daughter of Starkville, Miss., Alderman David Little and his wife Pattie, succumbed late Saturday to her injuries from the 3:15 p.m. crash on the Ole Miss Golf Course, University of Mississippi spokesman Rod Guajardo said Sunday.

The teenager, who dreamed of becoming a professional pilot, was practicing takeoffs and landings in a single-engine plane at the nearby University-Oxford Airport when she crashed near the course’s 17th tee box, The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported.

“Such sad news about Lake Little. A beautiful light has passed from this world far too soon,” tweeted Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant.

Little was set to compete this month in Mississippi’s Miss Hospitality pageant. The winner of the competitions spends a year promoting tourism to the state.

“Lake had a vibrant personality. She was full of life and lived it to the fullest,” Starkville Miss Hospitality director Angella Baker told the paper. “She was very passionate about flying and had just recently received her private pilots license.”

According to her Miss Hospitality profile, Little aspired to eventually fly for FedEx.

A star student, she graduated in May from Starkville Academy, where she received numerous academic honors and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.

She planned to study speech pathology and audiology at the University of Southern Mississippi and wanted to open her own clinic to help children and the elderly while maintaining an aviation career.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
