Prince William is ‘worried’ about Prince Harry, Meghan Markle after emotional documentary: report

Prince William is reportedly “worried” about his younger brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle after the couple opened up about struggling with tabloid rumors and fierce media scrutiny in a new documentary.

A palace source told the BBC on Monday that the Duke of Cambridge, 37, is said to be hoping the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “are all right” and felt the duo were “in a fragile place.”

Kensington Palace had no comment concerning the couple speaking out to British journalist Tom Bradby for ITV’s documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” which aired on Sunday in the UK and is scheduled to air Wednesday in the US on ABC.

The special aims to give audiences a behind-the-science glimpse into the couple’s recent royal tour of southern Africa.

But it was in that same documentary where Harry, 35, hinted at the ongoing rumored rift between him and his older brother.

“Inevitably stuff happens,” explained the British royal. “But we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment. I’ll always be there for him and as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly.”

“The majority of stuff is created out of nothing,” added Harry. “As brothers, we have good days and we have bad days.”

Numerous sources have long insisted there were deep tensions between the brothers after Harry revealed to his family he wanted to marry the former American actress after less than a year of dating. When William cautioned Harry that the whirlwind romance was moving too quickly, Harry reportedly became angry and hurt.

William dated Kate Middleton, his college sweetheart, for about eight years before tying the knot in 2011.

The royal couples split their offices and charitable endeavors after previously working together in June of this year. Markle, 38, and Harry’s office moved out of Kensington Palace and into Buckingham Palace, where Queen Elizabeth II resides. Middleton and William’s office remains in Kensington Palace, where they live with their three children.

Markle and Harry reside at Windsor Castle’s Frogmore Cottage with their son, Archie.

In the emotional documentary, Harry admitted the negative press attention has greatly impacted him and his wife, especially after Archie‘s birth in May of this year.

“It’s management. It’s constant management,” said Harry about his mental health to the British journalist. “I thought I was out of the woods and then suddenly it all came back and I suddenly realized, ‘Actually this is something that I have to manage.’”

“Look, part of this job and part of any job, like everybody, means putting on a brave face and turning a cheek to a lot of the stuff,” he continued. “But again, for me and for my wife, of course, there’s a lot of stuff that hurts — especially when the majority of it is untrue. But we all need to do is focus on being real, focus on being the people we are and standing up for what we believe in. I will not be bullied into carrying a game that killed my mom.”

Markle also got candid about coping with the intense media scrutiny after becoming a member of the British royal family when she married Harry in May 2018.

“I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a ‘stiff upper lip,’” explained Markle. “I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.”

“I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair,” continued Markle. “And that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile. Markle said before she tied the knot with Harry, 35, some of her friends warned her that becoming a member of the royal family would mean being under the constant glare of the public spotlight and losing your privacy.

“In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand and hear,” said Markle. “But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”

“And I, very naively — I’m American,” continued Markle. “We don’t have that there — [I said], ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in any tabloids.’ I didn’t get it. So it’s been, yeah, it’s been complicated.”

In a clip previously released by ITV on Friday, Markle got candid with Bradby about the negative attention she has received from the media during her pregnancy and first months with Archie.

When Bradby asked if it “would be fair” to say that she’s “not really OK, as in it’s really been a struggle,” Markle responded, “Yes.”

Meghan Markle admits she ‘never thought’ royal life ‘would be easy, but I thought it would be fair’

Meghan Markle says she wasn’t prepared for the intense media scrutiny that awaited her after marrying into the British royal family.

The Duchess of Sussex opened up to host Tom Bradby in ITV’s documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” which aired on Sunday in the UK and is scheduled to air Wednesday in the US on ABC.

The special aims to give audiences a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the couple’s recent royal tour of southern Africa.

When the British journalist asked the 38-year-old how she’s coping with the lack of privacy and ruthless tabloid rumors as a new parent, the former American actress replied she takes “each day as it comes.”

“I think the grass is always greener,” explained the former “Suits” star. “You have no idea. It’s really hard to understand what it’s like. I know what it seems like it should be, but it’s a very different thing.”

Markle said she and her husband Prince Harry have had conversations about being in the spotlight and all the negativity that comes with it.

“I have said for a long time to H, that’s what I call him, ‘It’s not enough to just survive something,’” said Markle. “’That’s not the point of life. You have to thrive. You have got to feel happy.’ I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a ‘stiff upper life.’ I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.”

The royal went on to tell Bradby she would be more understanding about the scrutiny if it were fair.

Michael Waltrip’s ‘Blink of an Eye’ is the untold story of day Dale Earnhardt Sr. died

When NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip woke up on the morning of February 18, 2001 – the morning of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida – he felt different.

“Some mornings I wake up and I can’t remember where I put my keys, but I remember every detail of that day vividly. I told my wife that they were not beating me that day, even though I had never won a NASCAR Cup race. Nobody had ever lost 462 races and then just won,” Waltrip told Fox News. “But Dale Earnhardt Sr. had told me I had the ability, and that day, I knew I would.”

At that point in his tumultuous career, Waltrip had completed some 462 Cup races – and failed to cross the line first in each and every one of them – branding him with the gong of NASCAR’s longest-ever losing streak. But under the Florida sun on the legendary racetrack, Earnhardt blocked the field of 40 cars to allow Waltrip a much-coveted victory.

“With 30 laps to go, I took the lead for the first time. Behind me was his son Dale Earnhardt Jr., and behind him was Dale Sr., the three of us working together,” Waltrip recalled. “And then crossing the line and taking that checkered flag – the emotion I felt was relief.”

It was a unique friendship amid the vicious arena of professional racecar driving. The celebration would be short-lived. Earnhardt Sr. crashed on the last lap.

New documentary to be released this month

“I’m a Christian and I believe in angels and God. I believe those angels took me straight to Victory Lane and I didn’t stop at the crash. I was waiting for Dale to walk through the gate but he didn’t. I knew something was wrong,” Waltrip said. “No one had answers. Half an hour later, my publicist delivered me the ultimate news.”

Waltrip’s story and his bond as the chronic underdog with the feared and famed Earnhardt — known in the sport as “The Intimidator” — is the subject of a new documentary, “Blink of an Eye,” directed by Paul Taublieb.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. in an interview for the new documentary

“I didn’t want this to be just a race car movie, it’s a movie about what happens when somebody really believes in you,” he said. “It’s an untold story, a marvelous story. Dale Earnhardt Sr. was the Michael Jordan or the Brad Pitt of the racecar world. When you deal with a real person and their family, there is a sense of responsibility.”

And while Earnhardt was a deeply private person, Taublieb hopes audiences see the many layers beneath his exterior as a ruthless competitor staring down the finish line.

“Dale had a heart of gold and truly cared about other people,” he surmised. “And Michael taught me as a filmmaker to own your emotions, be raw and share who you are. Some might think he was a loser, but he definitely was not.”

And for Waltrip, telling his story is a catharsis bound by faith and belief in overcoming adversity.

“For a few months after that Daytona, I was just going through the motions,” he added. “Then I came out of it, and I went back to Daytona to win.”

‘Star Trek’ actor Anton Yelchin kept cystic fibrosis diagnosis a secret before shocking death at 27, says doc

Director Garret Price admitted he was nervous when he first met the parents of his upcoming documentary’s subject, the late Anton Yelchin, but his worries quickly vanished.

Yelchin was killed in a freak accident at age 27 in 2016, when his SUV rolled backward down a driveway of his Los Angeles home and pinned him between a mailbox and a security fence. At the time, the “Star Trek” actor was a rising figure in Hollywood.

ANTON YELCHIN’S PARENTS STILL MOURNING HIS DEATH, REMEMBER HIS LIFE IN ‘LOVE, ANTOSHA’

Despite their ongoing grief, Viktor and Irina Yelchin were determined to keep the memory of their son alive by coming forward in a documentary titled “Love, Antosha.” The film chronicles his brief yet extraordinary life and career before the horrific tragedy.

“This was a story I wanted to tell,” Price told Fox News. “I found Anton so inspiring, so layered and interesting. It was very hard for his parents. But they were always there for me. They gave me the freedom and trust to tell this story, which is difficult in itself.

“They were handing off this story of their son who had passed to a stranger,” Price continued. “But they knew how important it was to share Anton’s story to the world. And this could be a tool to keep sharing his story and inspire new generations. They were there any moment I needed them… And ultimately, they loved talking about their son.”

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body, with a survival rate estimated at mid- to late 30s, on average, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The actor, who was an only child, was very close to his parents, who were a well-known pair figure skaters from the Soviet Union. The couple moved to the U.S. when their son was 6 months old.

“The first thing that surprised me was his chronic illness, which he was secretly dealing with throughout his carer,” Price explained. “And that in itself was totally admirable. No one knew about it. Even some of his closest friends didn’t know about it until he passed away… And the relationship he had with his parents was so important for me to get across.”

Despite the devastating diagnosis, Yeltsin had dozens of film and television credits that included voices for the “Smurfs” and the Netflix TV show “Trollhunters.” He is probably best known as Pavel Chekov in the rebooted “Star Trek” movie franchise.

“I’ve had CF patients come to see the film at screenings and they leave so inspired by his story,” said Price. “That’s where it gets really emotional for me, talking to those people. I can’t help by think, ‘Thank God somebody like him existed.’ He proved that you can have a life, be optimistic and push forward with this disease. It’s not an end-all. That’s how Anton addressed the disease. It wasn’t a crutch. He didn’t even tell anybody. He wasn’t going to let it hold him back. He also didn’t want people to feel sorry for him.”

The film also presents rare home movies, depicting Yelchin’s passion for acting from the time he was a child.

“He studied cinema right from the beginning because he wanted to know everything about the art form and loved it so much,” said Price. “That is not common among child actors. He watched Scorsese films at age 8 because he was so obsessed by the storytelling. And I think having parents who listened and gave him the freedom to explore those interests helped him push forward.”

But despite the documentary, which aims to celebrate Yelchin’s life, his parents are still mourning. The grieving couple recently told the Los Angeles Times they couldn’t bring themselves to sell their son’s home, the place where he died. They also visit the actor’s grave every day.

“It’s never going to be easy for them,” said Price. “But I think they have the tools to keep sharing his story. And all they want to do is talk about Anton… I hate saying the word ‘legacy’ because they speak of him as if he’s still alive. He’s so omnipresent. They’re just so thrilled to introduce their son to a new generation of fans.”

While the film’s ending is unavoidable, Price stressed the documentary aims to highlight Yelchin’s triumphs, not his tragic death.

“This is a movie about life, not death,” he said. “It’s about taking opportunities and living the life you have. It’s about being inspired to pursue your dreams, to learn, be curious, take risks and not being afraid to fall. All those attributes define Anton. I just hope people will go on to live a full life as he did.”

Judy Garland and Sid Luft’s daughter Lorna reflects on couple’s tumultuous marriage: ‘They loved each other’

Judy Garland’s marriage to her third husband Sid Luft left an unforgettable impression on their daughter, Lorna Luft.

“My father was like a tough guy out of ‘Guys and Dolls’ and my mother felt that was a lot of fun,” the actress told Closer Weekly for the magazine’s latest issue.

“They loved each other and had a real bond, but their relationship could be volatile because my dad had a temper and wouldn’t say no,” she continued. “And she had a temper and wouldn’t say no. So that got interesting!”

The couple tied the knot in 1952 and welcomed Lorna, now 66, that same year. Garland later gave birth to their son Joey in 1955. After 13 years of marriage, the pair called it quits in 1965. According to the outlet, while their marriage was turbulent, it was also the longest of Garland’s five unions.

The couple’s relationship is now the subject of a new Showtime documentary titled “Sid & Judy,” which is airing on October 18.

Garland passed away in 1969 at age 47 from a barbiturate overdose. Luft died in 2005 at age 89 from a heart attack.

Director Stephen Kijak told Closer Weekly he wanted to address some misconceptions about the marriage in the documentary.

“Sid has been accused of being an alcoholic, gambling and stealing [Judy’s] money, and all of those things are probably true,” he said. “But what is also true is that they had great respect and love for each other. He really did cherish her talent and helped her achieve a lot of great things in that partnership.”

When the duo met in 1950, Garland’s life was heading in a downward spiral after years of drugs, alcohol and bad relationships, the outlet reported. MGM had suspended the former child star and “Judy’s attempt at suicide was considered a bid for attention” by the studio, Luft wrote in his posthumously published memoir, “Judy and I.”

The New York Times reported it was Luft who helped resurrect Garland’s fading career. Luft produced 1954’s “A Star is Born,” which brought Garland an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

But Garland’s personal woes haunted the star. People magazine reported that in one incident in the early ‘50s, Luft alleged Garland’s depression was so debilitating that she slashed her throat in the bathroom of their Beverly Hills home. Doctors rushed to the scene and saved Garland’s life.

“Judy had cut her throat with a razor blade,” he wrote. “What demons inhabited her soul just when life seemed so rich and productive? It was a gigantic puzzlement that she would poison herself with pills and that the toxic reaction to whatever she swallowed would create an impulse for self-mutilation.”

Luft also described another suicide attempt in a D.C. hotel several years later, reported the outlet.

According to the magazine, it was Luft who quickly made tourniquets for her arms and took her to a doctor.

Luft also wrote in his memoir that Garland’s biggest struggle was her dependency on pills, which she relied on to look “camera-ready.”

“Whenever she began to drop considerable weight, it was dangerous, signaling an unhealthy use of pills,” he wrote.

Luft also wrote Garland attempted to quit cold-turkey. He claimed that one day, he was compelled to search her bedroom where she spent evenings alone to search for evidence of drug use.

The New York Times reported the couple endured several separations. And at their divorce hearing in 1965, Garland alleged Luft was abusive.

“He struck me many times,” Garland told Judge Edward R. Brand. “He did a lot of drinking.”

Luft has been accused of marrying Garland for his own benefit. The New York Times noted that in 1993, he attempted to auction the 1939 Oscar that Garland won as Best Juvenile Actress for her role as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.” The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences sued, claiming it had the right to buy the Oscar for $10. They won.

Still, Luft insisted that he had great love for Garland and only wanted to protect her.

“Whatever bad things happened, you don’t fall out of love with somebody like her,” Luft reflected in 2001. “All I know is that if anyone tried to save a woman who was breaking apart, I did. I know that I did the best I could do, and it still wasn’t enough.”

Kijak said that “their connection was real.”

“Whatever their traumas were behind the scenes, this intense collaboration produced some of her great second-act victories,” he said.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s ‘detrimental’ behavior ‘might bother’ Prince William, claims royal expert

One royal expert suggests Prince William is worried that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have “snubbed protocol” in a way that has negatively impacted the British royal family.

“I would think it might bother William a little bit, because he might see the way that Harry and Meghan do things as being detrimental to the business of the monarchy as a whole,” Ingrid Seward revealed in the British documentary titled “William & Harry: Princes At War?” as reported by UK’s Daily Mail on Monday.

The editor in chief of Majesty magazine has been covering the royal family since the ‘80s and has written over 20 books on the subject.

According to the outlet, Markle, 37, and Harry, 34, have faced backlash over the summer due to their privacy demands, including holding a top-secret christening for their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, as well as refusing to tell the public who his godparents are.

The former American actress, who gave birth to her firstborn in May of this year, has been heavily scrutinized for attending the Wimbledon tennis tournament, where her security apparently banned fans from snapping photos. In addition, critics have pointed out the Duchess of Sussex seems to “consider herself more of an A-lister than a member of the royal family” after she selected a handful of celebrity friends for the cover of Vogue U.K.’s September issue, which she guest-edited.

Speaking out on the couple reportedly “snubbing protocol,” the 71-year-old noted, “It wasn’t done in a very royal way, or the way we’d come to expect. But then Harry’s excuse was, ‘Well, I’m a private person.’ But you cannot be royal and be sixth in line to the throne and be a private person.”

In the same documentary, Seward claimed that an alleged feud between William, 37, and Harry was spawned when the Duke of Cambridge and his wife Kate Middleton were shocked at the speed with which Harry moved in his relationship with the former “Suits” star.

Markle and Harry reportedly met on a blind date in July 2016 and announced their engagement in November 2017. They tied the knot on May 2018 and welcomed a son in May 2019.

“It was all so quick that William and Kate didn’t have a moment to get to know Meghan because Harry hardly knew Meghan,” Seward alleged in the documentary, via The Sun.

“And of course William and Kate would have quite naturally thought, ‘Oh, she’s been married before, she’s older than Harry, I hope she’s going to make him happy.’ Anyone would think that.”

Markle was previously married to television and film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013. They were together as a couple for a total of eight years.

Emily Andrews, a royal reporter for The Sun, alleged that Harry lashed out at William over him allegedly not being supportive of Markle early in the relationship.

“I was told by a number of sources that he went ballistic,” Andrews said. “He said, ‘You’re trying to wreck this relationship before it’s even started.'”

Royal expert Katie Nicholl concurred, “That was the moment I was told by sources close to the brothers that the dynamics changed. There was a shift and it was largely down to Harry resenting his brother. Harry supported William from the outset of his relationship with Kate, and he felt let down that he wasn’t getting his brother’s full 100 percent support with his relationship with Meghan.”

MEGHAN MARKLE SECRETLY FLEW TO IBIZA WITH PRINCE HARRY, ARCHIE FOR BIRTHDAY FESTIVITIES: REPORT

William and Middleton dated for nearly seven years before getting engaged and tying the knot.

Middleton reportedly accompanied Markle to Wimbledon in 2018 as a “peace offering” and even brought flowers to the Sussexes home the following day. The duchesses have reportedly since bonded over motherhood.

While reports have suggested that the brothers have gotten along better since the birth of Harry and Markle’s son Archie, rumors flew that tensions may still exist when it was reported that the Cambridges and Sussexes would stay in separate houses during the royal family’s annual outing to Queen Elizabeth II’s Balmoral Estate.

However, some insiders say it was simply a measure taken to save space and keep everyone comfortable in what can often be a crowded vacation home.

Nick Bullen previously told Fox News that the alleged feud between the brothers has been blown out of proportion by the press. “In families, people fall out with each other all the time,” said Bullen. “The royal family is no different. I think everybody hopes [Archie] will be a chance for reconciliation for both sides of the family.”

“I believe that will resort itself,” he continued. “The move from Kensington Palace to Windsor puts a little distance between the two households. And that will begin to repair the story. And from what I’m being told, [the duchesses] actually get on OK. It isn’t about a battle between duchesses. It is much more about the boys. I think hopefully these two mothers will be able to bond more over their children. And I think babies are often a great way to bring families close together.”

Oscar winner D.A. Pennebaker, director of documentaries on Dylan and Clinton, dies at 94

D.A. Pennebaker, the Oscar-winning documentary maker whose historic contributions to American culture and politics included immortalizing a young Bob Dylan in “Don’t Look Back” and capturing the spin behind Bill Clinton‘s 1992 presidential campaign in “The War Room,” has died. He was 94.

Pennebaker, who received an honorary Academy Award in 2013, died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Long Island, his son, Frazer Pennebaker said in an email.

Pennebaker was a leader among a generation of filmmakers in the 1960s who took advantage of such innovations as handheld cameras and adopted an intimate, spontaneous style known as cinéma vérité. As an assistant to pioneer Robert Drew, Pennebaker helped invent the modern political documentary, “Primary,” a revelatory account of John F. Kennedy’s 1960 victory in Wisconsin over fellow Democratic presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey. He on went to make or assist on dozens of films, from an early look at Jane Fonda to an Emmy-nominated portrait of Elaine Stritch to a documentary about a contentious debate between Norman Mailer and a panel of feminists (“Town Bloody Hall”).

BOB DYLAN SLAMS FAN FOR BREAKING HIS NO-PHOTO RULE AT VIENNA CONCERT: ‘WE CAN EITHER PLAY OR WE CAN POSE’

Widely admired and emulated, Pennebaker was blessed with patience, sympathy, curiosity, the journalist’s art of setting his subjects at ease, the novelist’s knack for finding the revealing detail and the photographer’s eye for compelling faces and images. When reducing vast amounts of raw footage into a finished film, Pennebaker said, “The one barometer I believe in is boredom. The minute people start to lose interest, that’s it.”

— D.A. Pennebaker

Pennebaker parted from Drew in the mid-’60s and became a top filmmaker in his own right with the 1967 release “Don’t Look Back,” among the first rock documentaries to receive serious critical attention. It follows Dylan on a 1965 tour of England, featuring Joan Baez, Donovan, Allen Ginsberg and others.

Dylan was then transforming from folk singer to rock ‘n roller and “Don’t Look Back” finds the artist clashing with journalists and breaking from his own history, including Baez, with whom he had comprised folk music’s signature couple. She was his girlfriend at the start of the movie and ex-girlfriend by the time the documentary was done, his growing disregard for her unfolding on camera. Decades later, he would apologize, saying he feared she would be “swept up in the madness” of his changing career.

Scenes from “Don’t Look Back” have become part of the musical and movie canon, among them Dylan playing “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” in his hotel room while an impressed (and perhaps intimidated) Donovan looked on. In a much imitated sequence that anticipated rock videos, Dylan’s fast-talking “Subterranean Homesick Blues” plays on the soundtrack as the singer holds a stack of cue cards with fragments of the lyrics, peeling the cards off and discarding them one by one.

Patti Smith would recall seeing the film so many times she memorized the dialogue.

In a 2000 Associated Press interview, Pennebaker said he didn’t know much about Dylan at the time, but watching through his lens, saw “an amazing prodigy. Very smart in an untutored way. He created his own persona right before your eyes. … He was a compendium of things it takes professors years to figure out — startlingly naive, but smart.” He recalled Dylan “went into shock” the first time he saw the film, but then returned a night later, watched it again, then gave his OK.

“He had no idea that one camera sitting on one guy’s shoulder could make him feel so naked. … I’ve always admired Dylan for letting (the film) go the way it was,” he said.

BOB DYLAN’S NASHVILLE WHISKEY DISTILLERY TO OPEN IN 2020 ALONG WITH ON-SITE PERFORMANCE VENUE

Pennebaker continued to work with Dylan after “Don’t Look Back” and was on hand for his raucous European tour in 1966. An all-out rocker by this time, backed by expert and unknown musicians who later became the Band, Dylan performed snarling, defiant versions of “Like a Rolling Stone” and “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” as fans of his folk style booed and heckled.

Dylan was also seen working on music with Johnny Cash, and, looking and sounding strung out, bantering nonsensically with John Lennon in the back of a car in London. But Dylan was reportedly unsatisfied with Pennebaker’s cut and reworked the film himself. Some of the footage was released as “Eat the Document” while other parts were used by Martin Scorsese for “No Direction Home,” a Dylan PBS documentary released in 2006.

After Dylan, Pennebaker again recorded a musical landmark with “Monterey Pop,” a documentary of the 1967 California gathering that was rock’s first major festival and featured such current and future stars as Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Pennebaker not only captured some of the rock era’s most dynamic performances but the crowds who took them in, including a close-up of an awed Mama Cass during Joplin’s explosive “Ball and Chain.”

Pennebaker also made a documentary about a 1969 concert in Toronto with John Lennon and a pickup band featuring Eric Clapton. He made films about performers he admired and some he came to enjoy, like Depeche Mode, whose dedicated fans warmed him to their music.

FILM ACADEMY DEFENDS DECISION TO EXPEL ROMAN POLANSKI

In the 1990s, Pennebaker returned to politics with “The War Room,” co-directed by Pennebaker and his wife, Chris Hegedus. This time, the stars weren’t the candidates, but those behind the scenes. The filmmakers were granted limited access to Clinton, so the documentary focused on the campaign headquarters in Little Rock, Arkansas, as political strategists and future media stars James Carville and George Stephanopoulos guide the young Arkansas governor’s march to the White House.

The film blended raw, ruthless moments such as Stephanopoulos’ threatening a phone caller who claimed to have evidence of Clinton’s adultery and high emotion.

“Carville, the general, gives a tearful farewell to his troops at the conclusion that is as powerful as any fictional scene that could have been scripted,” Associated Press writer Linda Deutsch wrote in her 1993 review of the Oscar-nominated movie. In 2008, some of the key members of Clinton’s team were interviewed for “Return of the Room,” a look at how campaigns had changed since the first Clinton presidential run.

Pennebaker’s later films were made in partnership with Hegedus, whom he married in 1982.

Pennebaker was a longtime resident of Sag Harbor, an oceanside community on the eastern end of Long Island.

Donn Alan Pennebaker, whose father was a commercial photographer, was born in 1925 in Evanston, Illinois. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering at Yale University before going into filmmaking and used his college skills to help develop portable camera equipment used in documentaries and to design a computerized airport reservation system. He completed his first short, “Daybreak Express,” in 1953, combining a pulsing Duke Ellington score with a jazzy, shadowy montage of an elevated New York City subway station and its passengers. He also wrote and painted and worked briefly in advertising.

By the late ’50s, he had formed Drew Associates with Drew and Richard Leacock and begun work on a series of landmark movies, from “Primary” to “Crisis,” about the 1963 standoff between the Kennedy administration and Alabama Governor George Wallace, who was resisting integration at the University of Alabama. Pennebaker would criticize Drew’s editing of “Crisis,” saying he made it too worshipful of President Kennedy, and cited that as a reason for making films on his own.

“I wanted always to have that control,” he told Film Comment in 2017, when he recalled meeting Dylan’s manager, Albert Grossman, and being asked to make a documentary.

“He didn’t know me very well. We never met before he came to the office. But he could sense that about me, how I wanted to control my work. I wanted to tell my own story. So when Albert came and asked me would I want to go England with Dylan and make a film, film him, I was ready.”

Real ‘Mindhunter’ John Douglas says he believes serial killer Todd Kohlhepp murdered more victims in doc

Former FBI special agent John Douglas, the inspiration behind Netflix’s true-crime drama “Mindhunter,” believes serial killer Todd Kohlhepp when he says there are more bodies to be discovered.

A three-part series from Investigation Discovery titled “Serial Killer: Devil Unchained” explores whether the South Carolina man is responsible for more crimes than local police ever knew possible.

Serial killer Todd Kohlhepp is the subject of limited series titled “Devil Unchained” on Investigation Discovery (ID).

In 2017, the now-48-year-old pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder for killings that took place over more than a decade, all as he ran a real estate business. He was sentenced to life in prison but, if he is to be believed, there are more victims who have yet to be discovered.

“Why does any killer open up? They get lonely. No one is communicating with them. And Maria, to her advantage, is a woman.”

— John Douglas, former FBI special agent

“I believe him,” Douglas told Fox News. “He’s very specific and detailed. He also likes to boast about his skills, his violence. He’s also incredibly intelligent… Unfortunately, the correction officers will not let him out so we can tell right away whether he is truthful or not.

“But why won’t they make a deal with him? Why don’t you get the prosecutor to make a deal with him? He’s got life in prison. Show him or tell him that if you find these bodies, you won’t charge him with the death penalty. They didn’t. Police are saying they don’t have any missing persons, but it’s frustrating.”

“What if these people aren’t necessarily from your town?” continued the 74-year-old. “What if they were from another town, another area? I think this is an opportunity to clear cases, so it is frustrating. And I believe him. Unfortunately, the police didn’t follow up, didn’t really dig deeper into this.”

In 2017, the Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported that, in an eight-page letter, Kohlhepp wrote that he tried to tell investigators and informed the FBI about his other alleged victims but, he said, “it was blown off.”

He also wrote, “At this point, I really don’t see a reason to give numbers or locations.”

At the time, Don Wood, chief division counsel with the FBI’s Columbia office, said the agency had a pending investigation, but wouldn’t comment specifically on what the FBI was doing.

Douglas has spent his career interviewing some of the most horrific serial killers of all time, including Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, Edmund Kemper, and “BTK” Dennis Rader, among others. He participated in “Serial Killer: Devil Unchained” to weigh in on Kohlhepp’s case.

“I was involved with the investigation when four people were killed in a motorcycle shop in South Carolina [in 2003],” Douglas explained. “After I did a local presentation, these police officers approached me and asked if I could help them with a case… They sent me the material, I went through it and explained my analysis to them… I always felt the person responsible would have told someone over the years.”

DEADLY LOVE TRIANGLE EXPLORED IN SHOCKING DOC

Kohlhepp’s string of crimes was uncovered in 2016 after police rescued a woman chained at the neck in a storage container and an investigator found a body buried in a shallow grave. The woman, Kala Brown, told investigators she saw Kohlhepp shoot and kill her boyfriend, who went with her for a cleaning job on the suspect’s property.

According to the docuseries, Brown spent a grueling 65 days in captivity after being reported missing for over two months. She was discovered after investigators were following up on a tip regarding a potential sex crime.

While in custody, Kohlhepp came clean to authorities about the quadruple murder of Beverly Buy, Scott Ponder, Brian Lucas and Chris Sherbert — all shot to death in 2003 in a Superbike Motorsports location. Additionally, Kohlhepp would be charged in connection with the deaths of Johnny and Meagan Coxie; the bodies were recovered in 2016 from Kohlhepp’s property while authorities were rescuing Brown.

These discoveries would count as Kohlhepp’s sixth and seventh murder charges. However, the limited series took a dramatic turn when producer Maria Awes received a phone call from Kohlhepp, who claimed he murdered more than his seven victims. That prompted Awes, as well as Douglas and Kohlhepp’s biographer Gary Garrett to further probe the convicted killer’s background in pursuit of the truth.

“Why does any killer open up?” said Douglas. “They get lonely. No one is communicating with them. And Maria, to her advantage, is a woman. She showed empathy for him to better understand him. And he got to meet her face-to-face… So he really opened up to her.

“With me, he initially wasn’t very complimentary…. But with Maria, he opened up and provided a wealth of information about himself and the crimes. And Maria also believes he is truthful and that there are other crimes out there that he could bring some closure to.”

Douglas also pointed out that one should take a closer look at Kohlhepp’s early life. According to Good Housekeeping, Kohlhepp was just a toddler when his parents divorced and he spent his early childhood living with his mother and stepfather.

By the time he was 12, it was decided he should live with his father. At age 15, he kidnapped a 14-year-old girl and brought her back to his father’s home, where he bound and raped her at gunpoint. He was quickly arrested and charged with kidnapping and sexual assault. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

From a very young age, Kohlhepp exhibited violent behavior, including attacking other children and poisoning his pet fish with bleach, the outlet shared. A neighbor would later describe him as a “devil on a chain.” A memo detailing a psychiatric evaluation noted that Kohlhepp received counseling from around age 9 and as a juvenile threatened suicide.

A neighbor told a probation officer that Todd locked her son in a dog kennel cage and rolled it over and over and “despite the fact that her son was crying and screaming, Todd was laughing.” Another time, she said Kohlhepp banged her son’s head against clay pipes.

Court documents also show Kohlhepp’s father, mother and stepfather all had difficulty raising him.

“We can see the creation and the making of a criminal,” said Douglas. “If there’s no intervention early on, then it should be no surprise to the community, to law enforcement that someone like Todd Kohlhepp would perpetuate some violent acts.

“I don’t mean every child who is brought up in some dysfunctional family will grow up to be a violent anything. But what I can say and what I do know is that from all the people I’ve interviewed over the years is they did not come from a loving, nurturing environment or family. There was abandonment. There was a type of abuse. There was a type of neglect going on… But it was very predictable after you see these early indicators.”

Douglas said he hopes the docuseries will compel investigators to reexamine Kohlhepp’s claims and possibly bring closure to other cold cases.

Martha Moxley’s mother, brother still believe Kennedy cousin is guilty in doc on unsolved teen’s death

Dorthy Moxley admitted she may never see justice for the death of her daughter, but that hasn’t stopped her from keeping the teen’s memory alive.

The now-86-year-old, along with her son John Moxley, participated in a three-part documentary titled “Murder and Justice: The Case of Martha Moxley,” which is hosted by former federal prosecutor and on-air legal analyst Laura Coates.

The series explores the case of the 15-year-old by studying the original evidence and testing new theories that examine potentially overlooked clues, with the help of crime experts and interviews with people closely connected to the case.

On Halloween 1975, Martha was found brutally murdered – bludgeoned and stabbed to death with a golf club – beneath a tree on her own front lawn in the exclusive community of Greenwich, Conn.

Yet nobody was held accountable for nearly 25 years.

In 2002, Michael Skakel, a nephew of Robert F. Kennedy’s widow Ethel Kennedy and Martha’s neighbor at the time of her death, was arrested, brought to trial and found guilty. He was sentenced to 20 years to life but in 2013, after 11 years of appeals, a judge ruled that Skakel’s original trial lawyer did not provide a competent defense and reversed his conviction. Today Skakel walks free and maintains his innocence.

Martha’s father, John David Moxley, never learned who took the life of his daughter. He passed away in 1988 at age 57 from a heart attack.

“I don’t think I made sense of it yet,” Moxley, the victim’s brother, told Fox News about Skakel’s current status. “It’s quite shocking… Martha will be with him forever.”

“Just because he’s out on the street doesn’t mean what we know isn’t right,” added John, who alleged the family has long heard stories concerning Skakel’s credibility. “Where we are now is that it’s all about judges and technicalities. It’s not about who killed Martha. At this point, him being out doesn’t change anything for me. And he’ll be in prison for the rest of his life regardless of where he’s walking the streets. He will be in his own prison for the rest of his days.”

While Robert F. Kennedy Jr. came forward in the docuseries and claimed there is evidence that actually clears his cousin, Skakel did not participate. In response to Fox News’ request for comment, Skakel’s attorney wrote: “I appreciate your invitation to comment but I don’t feel the need to add to the discussion.”

Moxley said she participated in the documentary to raise awareness on Martha’s life and horrific death. She, along with John, firmly believe Skakel, who was 15 at the time of Martha’s murder, is responsible.

Skakel previously said he was watching an episode of the “Monty Python” television show at his cousin’s house at the time Martha was killed. Martha was beaten with a golf club that belonged to Skakel’s mother.

According to the documentary, Martha and her friends spent “Mischief Night” spraying shaving cream on mailboxes before hanging out with neighbors Skakel and his brother Thomas “Tommy” Skakel, 17. Tommy said Martha headed back to her house shortly before 10 p.m. At the start of the investigation, Tommy, along with the Skakel’s live-in tutor Kenneth Littleton, were questioned by police. Oxygen.com shared Michael did not become a suspect until 1991, when Greenwich police reopened the case after decades of dead-end leads.

“I think everyone has the right to pursue those appeals,” said John. “But I think the affiliation with the Kennedys… is a double-edged sword. It was always in the papers… We couldn’t privately grieve. You were always grieving in public. Coping? You have to do it. What choice do you have? The difficult thing is we had to cope and grieve in a very public forum… The worst thing that ever happened to us was Martha being murdered… And with this court situation, I think it was important to get our side of the story. So you cope the best that you can.”

Mother and son said Kennedy, 65, added salt to their wound when he published his 2016 book “Framed: Why Michael Skakel Spent Over a Decade in Prison for a Murder He Didn’t Commit,” which aims to clear Skakel’s name and reveal who the likely killers were.

“I’m afraid I don’t particularly care for Mr. Kennedy,” said Moxley. “I really think he has caused more problems than he has solved.”

“Notable is one word but you wouldn’t interchange it with respectable in his case,” said John.

In the docuseries, former Los Angeles detective Mark Fuhrman said Skakel revealed to investigators that after returning from his cousin’s house on the night of Martha’s murder, he climbed a tree outside the Moxley residence. He then threw rocks at Martha’s window. When she did not answer, he masturbated in the tree. Furhman alleged the Skakels used these statements to possibly explain the potential presence of DNA at the crime scene. Furhman also claimed that Martha’s murder was a “crime of passion” and he has “no doubt” Skakel is guilty.

But the police were so kind to us. They tried as hard as they could. I know they were very sincere in their attempts to solve this. When the reinvestigation started, they asked me if I could help get the story out there. They knew that somebody had to know what happened. Whoever killed Martha could not keep it to themselves. They would tell someone. And someone may have seen it.”

“In the beginning, no one wanted to believe it was one of the young kids from the neighborhood,” continued Moxley. “It was a wonderful neighborhood. The kids could go out and the parents really didn’t worry… [But] police needed evidence. And I believe that’s why it took so long.”

“And some cases never get solved,” said John. “The Greenwich police weren’t experienced in homicide investigations. But that being said, they stuck with it. In the end, they were successful so we’re grateful for that.”

But mother and son don’t just want to relive the agony of losing Martha. They also want to cherish their memories with her.

“John was my little boy and Martha was my little girl,” said Moxley. “I loved them both to pieces and still do. I only had two children. They were my pride and joy. I loved them dearly. I still do.”

“Martha was my little sister,” said John. “She got all the best grades and made all the friends… Our relationship was going on a really positive direction in high school. Those were good times… Nothing is going to bring Martha back. There is no such thing as justice in this sort of thing. There are only losers.”

Michael B. Jordan honors Central Park 5 with ACLU Courage Award

Michael B. Jordan told the men known as the Central Park Five Friday that he cannot watch footage of the new series “When They See Us” without getting emotional and feeling like as a young black man he too could have faced a similar ordeal.

“It’s dangerous in America when you’re living in a black body,” Jordan said.

Jordan praised the men — Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise — for their perseverance and courage during a luncheon in which the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California honored Netflix‘s series about their case.

“The whole time that these men were incarcerated, they never changed their story,” he said. “They insisted of their innocence even as they did their time.”

Salaam cried as he accepted an award on behalf of series creator Ava DuVernay.

“I’m not ashamed to cry in front of you,” Salaam said after a moment of silence as he reflected on how he and the other men were “just boys” between the ages of 13 and 16 years old when they were wrongfully convicted.

“Our story is a story of an egregious miscarriage of justice,” he added.

Jordan hugged Salaam, who also spoke on behalf of the five men.

“That’s courage,” said Jordan, whose performances have ranged from his acclaimed portrayal of a young black man killed by a police officer in “Fruitvale Station” to the vengeful Erik Killmonger in “Black Panther.”

CENTRAL PARK 5 PROSECUTOR RESIGNS FROM CHARITY BOARD OVER NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY BACKLASH

Salaam and the rest of the Central Park Five were exonerated in 2002 after being charged with the 1989 rape of a white woman in New York’s Central Park. They received a standing ovation while accepting the ACLU chapter’s inaugural Roger Baldwin Courage Award. Baldwin was one of the ACLU’s founders and its first executive director.

“When They See Us” isn’t Hollywood’s first attempt to recount the story of the Central Park Five’s wrongful conviction, but it has sparked a renewed interest in the details of the case.

Hector Villagra, executive director of the ACLU of Southern California, said DuVernay refocused the narrative on the humanity of the five men and it has shone a new light on a widely known case 30 years later.

The series has re-ignited outcry about how the case was handled. Linda Fairstein, the Manhattan sex crimes prosecutor who observed the teenagers’ interrogation, has faced backlash for her role in their conviction. Fairstein has already resigned from at least two nonprofit boards as backlash intensified and a #CancelLindaFairstein movement spread on social media.

Shortly before the men accepted their award, Fairstein was dropped by her book publisher in the face of the increasing criticism. Villagra said that he thinks it’s fair that Fairstein be judged for her actions, even decades later.

“It’s in many ways justice delayed,” Villagra said.
