‘Office’ actress Angela Kinsey tells why her character loved cats

Actress Angela Kinsey played a cat lover on the beloved NBC sitcom “The Office.” Turns out it wasn’t all an act.

She also deeply cares about cat health and care in her everyday life.

Her character, Angela Martin, originally wasn’t supposed to be cat-obsessive, but it felt organic to Kinsey.

“When I auditioned … my character was described to me as sort of the judge-y lady in the corner,” she told Fox News. “And in the pilot episode our director, Ken Kwapis, asked me if I would pass out papers in the background because we were all each other’s background.”

‘THE OFFICE’ ALUM MINDY KALING CLAIMS SHE WAS ‘DIVERSITY HIRE’ FOR HIT SHOW: I WAS ‘EMBARRASSED BY IT’

“I’d been doodling on a Post-It note. I’d drawn a little picture of a cat and I wrote ‘You’re invited to Sprinkles’ first birthday party, 4 p.m. in the parking lot.”

The actress added: “I’d just sort of made up for myself that I found a cat in the parking lot and adopted it and I passed [it] out to everyone. And then Jenna [Fischer] as Pam improvised a line off of that Post-It note and Sprinkles made it into the pilot, and I think the writers just were like, ‘Yes.’ And they just ran with it.”

Her ”Office” co-star,Kate Flannery will be hitting the stage this fall on the new season of “Dancing With the Stars,” but Kinsey insisted she doesn’t need any advice.

“I cannot wait,” she said. “I told her I said. ‘You have to get me tickets; I have to come to a taping. I have to.'”

STEVE CARELL SHUTS DOWN ‘THE OFFICE’ REBOOT RUMORS DURING ‘SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’ MONOLOGUE

“She is so talented,” Kinsey said. “I think a lot of people might not know this about Kate but she’s an amazing performer-entertainer. She’s been touring with [actor] Jane Lynch. They have a whole Christmas album and just like a big band. And she’s phenomenal. So I can’t wait.”

But Kinsey “would never ever” be part of the celebrity cast. “I love watching ‘Dancing With the Stars, but no one needs to see me dance,” she joked.

The “Haters Back Off” star is currently working with Royal Canin to promote cat health and encourage owners to take their pets to the vet.

Canadian service dogs attend ‘Billy Elliot’ production, photo goes viral

An adorable photo of a group of service dogs sitting in a Canadian theater last week catching a production of “Billy Elliot” has gone viral.

The photo shows the crowd of mainly poodles and golden retrievers taking up at least four rows and attentively watching the stage during the Stratford Festival in Ontario. The objective was to prevent fur from flying during live theater so the pups can help their handlers navigate a theater atmosphere.

“It’s important to prepare the dogs for any activity the handler may like to attend,” said Laura Mackenzie, owner of K-9 Country Inn Working Service Dogs and who spearheaded the outing, told CBC radio.

“The theater gives us the opportunity to expose the dogs to different stimuli such as lights, loud noises and movement of varying degrees. The dogs must remain relaxed in tight quarters for an extended period of time.”

The canines took part in the theater’s “relaxed performance,” made for attendees with autism or for those who need a calmer experience. The venue also has shows made for those with hearing or visual impairments.

“They were all extremely well-behaved,” Stratford Festival spokesperson Ann Swerdfager told the radio station. “I was in the lobby when they came in, then they took their seats, then got out of their seats at intermission and went back. All of the things we learn as humans when we start going to the theater.”

Swerdfager said both cast and audience members were thrilled to see the four-legged attendees and that service dogs are accepted there several times per week. It’s a unique training method that gives service handlers a leg up on attending outings, like a play.

“Everybody was so thrilled to see all these dogs at one time in the audience. It’s really exciting. And it’s thrilling to be part of something that is going to serve theatergoers of the future,” Swerdfager told the outlet.

“It’s wonderful that going to the theater is considered one of the things that you want to train a service dog for, rather than thinking that theatre is out of reach for people who require a service animal because it isn’t,” she added.

All of the doggies were reportedly all very good boys during the show, and Mackenzie said she plans to return with more pups in the future.

“All of the dogs were fantastic and remained relaxed throughout the performance. Some even watched through the cracks of the seats,” said Mackenzie. “The dogs loved the show almost as much as their handlers.”

More than two dozen shelter cats mauled to death after pitbulls break out of cage

Twenty-nine cats were mauled to death by two pit-bulls who broke out of their cages at an Alabama animal shelter overnight.

Employees found the dead felines at the Dothan Animal Shelter in Dothan, Ala., Thursday morning when they reported for work. Shelter Director Bill Banks said the two dogs forced their way out of their pens by knocking galvanized bars out of their clamps and pushing their way through chain-linked fencing, Dothan, Ala.’s WTVY reported.

TROLLS HARASS WOMAN WHO CLAIMS THAT SEAGULL STOLE HER DOG

The pit-bulls responsible for the attack were dropped off at the shelter the day before.

“These dogs were able to eat their way out, for lack of a better term, and attack these cats. That is horrible,” Dothan City Commissioner Beth Kenward told the station. She blamed the cat-killings on the outdated shelter. Mayor Mark Saliba agreed with the commissioner, adding that a new shelter is long “overdue.”

Kenward and Saliba recently made a new animal shelter a capital improvement priority for the town. City government is working to partner with business owners, private entities, humane societies and animal rights groups in order to raise the money to fund a new multi-million dollar facility, Kenward said. Saliba added that he wants to reach out to Houston County to share in the cost of the project.

A decision has not been made over what to do with the dogs after the incident, Banks said. Shelter staff and volunteers will be offered counseling. Kenward and Saliba want a board to be created to oversee the creation of a new animal shelter. The current animal shelter is operated by the Dothan Police Department.

Showbiz legend Barbra Streisand flew her three prized pooches on a 10,000 mile roundtrip to watch her perform at London’s Hyde Park on Sunday night.

The singer, 77, had her poodles Miss Scarlet, Miss Violet and Fanny with her waiting in the wings in a custom dog buggy with a dedicated VIP escort for them backstage.

She performed for 65,000 punters at British Summertime with Posh and Becks in the crowd alongside Spanish film star Antonio Banderas, 58, and actor Richard E Grant, 62.

The dogs even made a brief appearance on stage when Babs admitted they weren’t “into show business.”

A backstage source told The Sun: “There was no expense spared for her three beloved pets in the backstage area.

“They had free roam of her dressing room and a dedicated member of staff to push them in the buggy or walk them round at their free will.Barbra adores them all and would never travel with out them, fans were even queuing up for selfies with them.”

The “Woman in Love” hitmaker had Miss Scarlet and Miss Violet cloned from their mother Samantha, a white Coton de Tulear breed, before she died in 2017.

Fanny is from Samantha’s breeder.

Last month Barbra took the dogs to visit their mother’s grave and posted the event on Instagram with the caption: “The twins Scarlet and Violet honoring their mom (with cousin Fanny in the center!)”

Minnesota cat recovering after sneaking into washing machine, survives wash cycle

A Minnesota cat miraculously survived after sneaking into a washing machine — where it stayed for about an hour.

Stefani Carroll-Kirchoff, from Maplewood, a suburb of St. Paul, said she was doing her laundry on Wednesday when her one-year-old cat, Felix, jumped inside the washing machine while the door was open.

“I must have turned my back for a few minutes folding clothes and he apparently went in there when I wasn’t looking,” Carroll-Kirchoff told Fox News.

MYSTERIOUS ‘CAT-FOX’ DISCOVERED, MAY BE A NEW SPECIES

“It’s horrific. It’s absolutely horrific,” she added.

Carroll-Kirchoff said she hasn’t been able to sleep since the incident.

“This will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she said. “It’s the most traumatic experience.”

Her daughter, Asha Carroll McCullough, described her mother as a “devoted animal lover” and said her mom called her immediately after she realized what had happened.

“She was crying so hard I couldn’t understand what she was saying and she said Felix went through the washing machine,” Carroll McCullough said.

She told Fox News her mother went upstairs after starting the laundry and came back down after an hour. When she opened the door of the washing machine she realized Felix was inside the whole time.

“All of a sudden she heard a meow and saw a little white foot. The way she describes it was she was just in shock and she immediately phoned my grandpa and said come with me to vet,” Carroll McCullough.

She said within minutes her mother and grandfather “raced to the vet.”

HIKER DISCOVERS CUTE ‘ABANDONED PUPPY,’ GETS BIG SURPRISE

When they arrived at the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota, veterinarians said Felix was in critical condition. They told Carroll-Kirchoff “it’s rare that cats make it through something like this,” according to Carroll McCullough.

She said Felix was still in critical condition and veterinarians immediately put the cat on oxygen support and administered intravenous therapy.

“I will do anything I can for him to stay alive,” Carroll-Kirchoff said. “After what he’s been through, I feel like we owe it to him.”

Her daughter told Fox News that Felix’s recuperation required 24 hours a day in an oxygen chamber.

She said the therapy seemed to be working. The cat’s vision was returning and the animal had started to eat again.

She said veterinarians told them Felix’s recovery likely would take a few weeks.

Carroll McCullough said the oxygen chamber has cost about $1,000 per day and since her mother did not have pet insurance, she started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost.

“He’s doing remarkably well,” said Carroll-Kirchoff.

“We feel so, so lucky. He is the miracle cat,” her daughter said.

Orlando Bloom had his dog’s skeleton mounted at home

Orlando Bloom has revealed that he still has his dog’s skeleton preserved and wishes him goodnight.

The actor, 42, opened up about having the remains of his beloved pooch Sidi at his home during a recent interview.

He told Dog’s Monthly: “He was a great companion and I was very upset when he died. I had his skeleton mounted so that he stays with me.”

“I know that sounds a little odd to some people, but it is quite tastefully done and I still get to say goodnight to him.”

Orlando rescued the black Saluki mix in 2004, after meeting him as a stray while filming “Kingdom of Heaven” in Morrocco.

The actor was regularly spotted walking Sidi in New York before his death, however, in 2015 revealed that the dog was suffering from liver disease on Instagram and he died a year later.

The actor has since gone on to adopt new pup Mighty, who he regularly shares photos of on his social media and confessed that he is a keen animal lover.

He admitted: “‘I’m British and we are a nation of dog lovers. But even if I wasn’t British, I would still be an animal lover and especially a dog lover – I just cannot help myself.”

It seems a love of animals is one of the many things that Orlando and fiance Katy Perry have got in common too, as the singer regularly posts snaps with her Teacup Poodle, Nugget.

The couple got engaged in February after dating on and off for the past few years.

And sources previously revealed how the star couple are set to say their vows at a theme park.

They said: “She is busily planning the wedding of her dreams and is taking charge of the creative side.

“Money is no object when it comes to bringing the bride’s fantasies to life. She wants to exchange vows at Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World in Florida.”

Katy has also spoken about her desire to have Lionel Richie perform at her wedding during an interview to promote American Idol – where the pair both serve as judges.

She said: “You can sing at our wedding. For free!”

Lionel replied: “By the way, I don’t mind that. I am so into our little marriage here, that I’ve gotta tell you I just feel like we’re part of the family.”

Katy recently revealed how Orlando extravagantly popped the question in a helicopter – but things didn’t quite go to plan.

She confessed: “It was Valentine’s Day. We went to dinner and I thought we were going to see some art after dinner but we pulled up to a helicopter.

“The funny part is we had champagne in the helicopter and the [ring] box was in his pocket and he had written down everything he wanted to say on a note to divert.”

But his plan to distract Katie with his romantic note fell flat when he struggled to remove the large ring box from his coat pocket.

Katy quipped: “He’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket and he rips his coat pocket and then his elbow goes into the champagne!”

Man puffed on cigarette after repeated kicks left kitten dazed and ‘trembling’: police

An Arizona man was arrested Tuesday after he was captured on surveillance footage chasing a 6-week-old kitten around a parking lot and repeatedly kicking it, police said.

Nicholas Calfy, 23, reportedly faces felony charges of animal cruelty, drug possession, and drug paraphernalia possession.

The alleged kitten abuse took place in a parking lot in Mesa, about 20 miles east of Phoenix. The video shows Calfy taking off his shirt before chasing the kitten around the parking lot, police said. Calfy then corners the kitten, covers it with his shirt and kicks it multiple times, according to the police report.

“He repositioned the kitten back into the corner between each kick. The kitten was then observed in a dazed condition and could no longer run or defend itself from the defendant,” the police report says. “The kitten was observed laying on the ground trembling.”

Calfy was later seen looking at the kitten while smoking a cigarette and providing no medical assistance, police said. Staff members found the kitten alive in the same position eight hours later and took it to a veterinary center.

The vet said the kitten had suffered head trauma, trauma-induced hyphema, and neurologic tremors. The animal survived and was taken in by a family, KTVK-TV of Phoenix reported.

Calfy admitted it was him when shown a photo, the police report said. He said he was drunk at the time and didn’t remember a kitten from the above time and date, according to the report.

A search of his backpack yielded a piece of foil “that contained a usable amount of white crystal substance,” which tested positive for methamphetamine, police said. Calfy was arrested but later released on his own recognizance. He’s due back in court later this month, KTVK reported.

A Florida homeless man was arrested on animal cruelty charges Wednesday after allegedly dragging a pit bull behind his pick-up truck, badly injuring the dog.

Police said Gregory Tousignant, 58, was driving while his pit bull was standing in the bed of the truck. Witnesses saw the 1-year-old pup named Ollie jump from the truck, and then get dragged by a rope tied to his collar before slipping out of the collar.

“He came loose and flew into the median at which point he was rescued,” a man who witnessed the incident, Jan Harwood, told Orlando’s FOX 35. Harwood owns Nature Coast Animal Wellness & Surgical Center where Ollie is recovering from severe road rashes and bloody paws.

“He’s doing really well, he doesn’t have any broken bones or internal injuries,” Harwood said of the dog.

Michael Terry, a spokesman for the Hernando Sheriff’s Office, said it did not appear that the dog’s owner intentionally dragged the dog behind the truck to harm him. It is illegal in the state of Florida to transport an animal in the bed of a truck if it is not properly secured.

Nonetheless, Tousignant is charged with animal cruelty, which carries a $1,000 bond, Fox 35 reported.
