Atlanta Braves pitcher Sean Newcomb causes fire extinguisher mess after kicking trash can

Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Sean Newcomb had a slight meltdown in the team’s clubhouse on Saturday night, triggering a chain reaction that set off a fire extinguisher after their loss to the Miami Marlins.

Newcomb, 26, kicked a metal garbage can in frustration after giving up the winning run in the 10th inning. The garbage can hit a fire extinguisher hanging on the tunnel wall between the dugout and clubhouse.

The extinguisher then started to spew chemical spray as a large fan helped it send smoke and dust flying through the air, which temporarily blocked the Braves from entering the clubhouse before the team’s final game in Miami during their four-game series.

ATLANTA BRAVES’ AUSTIN RILEY LANDS ON INJURY LIST AFTER WEIGHT ROOM MISHAP

A crew had to clean up the mess Sunday morning. One worker said Newcomb apologized and offered to pay for any damages, The Associated Press reported.

The Braves had led 6-2 going into the bottom of the ninth inning before the Marlins, who have the worst record in the National League, rallied to score four runs and send the game into extra innings. Newcomb entered the game in the 10th inning.

His postgame frustration seemed to stem from an errant pickoff attempt that hit off the glove of first baseman Freddie Freeman, allowing outfielder Harold Ramirez to advance from first to third base. A sacrifice fly by third baseman Martín Prado scored Ramirez and won the game for Miami.

MIAMI MARLINS’ ISAN DIAZ HITS FIRST CAREER HOME RUN WHILE FATHER IS INTERVIEWED ON TV

Newcomb has had an ERA of 2.99 this season, nearly one point less than his total of 3.90 in 2018.

In June of this year, Newcomb was involved in a scary scene after a 102-mile-per-hour line drive struck him in the back of the head. He walked it off under his own power and managed to play again 10 days later.

Naked Florida bicyclist stole underwear from sex shop, cops allege

A man in Florida was seen pedaling a bike in the nude before swiping underwear from a sex shop, police reported, saying the man was under arrest.

It all happened this past Thursday evening in Wilton Manors in Broward County, where police said they responded after getting reports from “concerned citizens” of a naked man riding down the street on a bicycle.

After those initial calls, the man then entered the sex shop where he donned underwear he took off the shelf and offered to pay for it with his bicycle, WTVJ reported, posting cellphone video of the arrest.

Colorado bear breaks into home, escapes through wall like ‘Kool-Aid Man,’ police say

A bear broke into a Colorado home Friday and escaped a responding police officer by crashing through a wall “like the ‘Kool-Aid Man,’” investigators said.

The scent of trash likely attracted the bear to the home in Estes Park, police wrote on Facebook. It wasn’t clear how the animal broke into the house.

There were no reported injuries, Fox 31 Denver reported.

Police quoted a warning from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) that cautioned residents to make sure all windows and doors to houses and cars are locked to help prevent bear break-ins and keep both humans and bears safe.

CPW officials said bears entered over 35 vehicles and nine homes in the Estes Park area, northwest of Denver, in the 10 days before Aug. 3.

Some vehicles contained no “attractants,” which showed that certain bears have become so used to finding food in vehicles that they were going from car to car even if they neither saw nor smelled food, officials said.

Habituated bears that overcome their wariness of humans have been a threat to human safety and often must be killed, according to the CPW.

Tattooed defendant convicted of killing 2 — after attorney sought jury that wouldn’t judge client’s appearance

The Louisiana man whose defense attorney sought a jury who wouldn’t judge the double-homicide defendant’s facial tattoos was convicted of murder on Friday.

William Bottoms Jr., 29, faced two counts of second-degree murder stemming from the deaths of two men in 2017. They were found shot in the head, in the back seat of a car, covered with a sheet.

When selecting a jury earlier last week, Bottoms’ defense attorney, Jarvis Antwine, reportedly told 14 potential jurors he wanted people who would not judge Bottoms for his tattoos — which include skull horns and a set of teeth  — on his face and neck.

“That’s the first thing you see with him,” Antwine told jurors, most of whom said they didn’t expect Bottoms’ tattoos to influence their verdict.

Bottoms’ girlfriend, Megan Gaylord, testified Thursday. She said she, Bottoms and the two now-dead men did drugs together before Bottoms became paranoid and killed the men.

In court Friday, the jury found Bottoms guilty of second-degree murder, The Advocate of Baton Rouge reported. A judge sentenced him to two consecutive life terms.

Texas superintendent head-butted other superintendent at educators’ training, police say

The superintendent of a Texas school district has been briefly suspended after police claim he head-butted another superintendent while drunk at a fast-food restaurant.

Xavier De La Torre, superintendent of Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, was suspended without pay for three days on July 30 after the alleged altercation at a Whataburger in June.

Following the July 30 meeting, school district trustees said De La Torre’s suspension was “an appropriate cause of action due to Dr. De La Torre not advising the board promptly about the incident in question,” according to the El Paso Times. Trustees didn’t acknowledge De La Torre’s alleged conduct in the incident.

A police report said De La Torre, in San Antonio with other educators for a training provided by the Texas Association of School Boards, appeared to be intoxicated and head-butted José Espinoza, superintendent for the Socorro Independent School District, which covers much of El Paso County.

De La Torre denied the incident last week, claiming he was not the aggressor and that he didn’t head-butt anyone. Espinoza, according to the Times, said the police report accurately stated what happened on June 13.

Twin brothers pulled over in Ohio for near-identical license plates while en route to Twins Festival

It’s safe to say: good things come in twos.

Twin brothers driving near-identical vehicles were pulled over Thursday while driving to the annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, after state troopers suspected the pair each had the same license plate number.

Andy Baker told FOX8 he and his identical brother Chad were heading to the festival from Nashville, Tenn. in separate blue Teslas when state troopers stopped them, although they were not speeding.

IDENTICAL TWIN SISTERS MARRY IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHERS

One trooper suspected the twins had the same license plate, making him do a double-take. Both license plates appeared to read: “SUBJ TO” to the officer — but moments later he stood corrected.

“He says, ‘Do you know why I pulled you over? You guys have the same license plate,” Andy told the station. “I said, ‘Incorrect’.”

Two twin brothers, who were sporting matching vehicles, were pulled over Thursday afternoon while driving to the annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio after state troopers suspected defective license plates. However, one is an O, the other is a zero.

The two twins are real estate investors, and “subject to” is a term used in the business. “One is an O, the other is a zero,” said Andy.

Last year, the twins were pulled over by Ohio authorities for speeding while driving to the festival at 58 mph — making this their second run-in with the law.

Last year, both Bakers were ticketed, but this time their luck held and the state trooper let them go.

“Nobody likes getting pulled over by police, we were both nervous, but it’s a great story and we will tell it all weekend.”

A tantrum, a fight and a bizarre touchdown celebration led one NFL player straight to the unemployment line.

Now-former Baltimore Raven Jordan Lasley got his walking papers Wednesday after a crazy week that included fighting with teammates, scoring a touchdown and inexplicably throwing a football into a pond. Lasley, a 2018 fifth-round pick out of UCLA, started out his terrible week by fighting with Ravens cornerback Cyrus Jones during drills. When safety Bennett Jackson tried to break it up, Lasley fought him, too.

TEXAS MAN ACCUSES DALLAS COWBOYS OF CONSPIRING WITH COPS TO COVER UP EZEKIEL ELLIOTT CAR CRASH

Fights are nothing new in training camps, but what happened next was surely a first. Lasley hauled in a touchdown pass and then promptly hurled the pigskin into a nearby pond. Days later, the Ravens cut him. Coach John Harbaugh insisted it had nothing to do with the fighting, and the team can surely afford footballs.

“We never cut anyone for fighting,” Harbaugh told ESPN.com. “It’s over a year now. From a fit perspective, in terms of what we’re trying to do with our offense, other guys are going to be a better fit.”

It is more likely that Lasley got cut on the merits- or lack of them. As a rookie last season, he never saw the field. That followed a junior year at UCLA in which he led the Pac 12 in receiving yards with 1,264 and caught 69 passes, including nine touchdowns, before declaring for the draft.

On Thursday, the Oakland Raiders claimed Lasley off waivers.

Rocket launcher discovered at BWI Airport; second found this week

Military equipment was seized at Baltimore Washington International Airport on Thursday — the second such seizure in days — after it was brought back on a military flight by a U.S. Air Force sergeant who kept it as a keepsake.

The rocket launch tube was discovered around 5:20 a.m. in the American Airlines baggage area of the airport, located in Maryland, the Office of the State’s Fire Marshal’s Bomb Squad announced.

Before being flown to the U.S., the “inert” equipment was inspected by U.S. military officials for safety and was “empty of any explosive hazard,” according to a press release from the office. It was returned to the country by a sergeant “as a souvenir of their service abroad.”

Authorities said the tube “presents no immediate threat to anyone on the ground,” but noted “there is a slight chance that it could contain pressurized gas, and was therefore not allowed on the Sergeant’s connecting commercial flight.”

The rocket launch tube was taken in by the bomb squad “until it can be safely returned to the owner.”

2 TSA OFFICERS PLACED ON LEAVE AFTER OFFENSIVE DISPLAY DISCOVERED AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

TSA reminded passengers earlier this week not to bring explosives or devices that shoot explosives on airplanes — even if they’re just replicas — after finding a fake grenade and a real missile launcher at two different airports.

Earlier this week at BWI in Maryland, TSA agents found a missile launcher in someone’s checked luggage. That passenger said he was active military personnel traveling home from Kuwait and also wanted to keep the missile launcher as a souvenir.

TSA also discovered a grenade at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey in someone’s checked luggage. Explosives experts eventually determined that it was actually a highly realistic replica of a grenade.

“Military weapons are not permitted in checked or carry-on bags,” said the transportation agency, which did not immediately return Fox News’ request for comment regarding Thursday’s equipment seizure.
