Washington Redskins’ Dwayne Haskins takes selfie with fan, misses final snap

Dwayne Haskins just won his first victory as starting quarterback.

But, he messed it up when the Washington Redskins rookie missed the final snap in victory formation to take a selfie with a fan in the front row.

“I was so hype I think I broke a water bottle,” Haskins, the former Ohio State star, said, as ESPN reported. “I look up and we were in victory (formation) and said, ‘Oh, I thought the game was over with already.’ But I’ll get it next time.”

Dustin Hopkins connected on a 39-yard field goal with 16 seconds left, and the Redskins snapped a four-game skid and won their first game at home in 13 months.

Haskins scrambled for 11 yards and completed passes of 5 yards to Kelvin Harmon and 17 to Terry McLaurin to set up Hopkins’ go-ahead field goal.

The 15th overall draft pick was 13 of 29 for 156 yards and an interception.

With Haskins away from the field, backup Case Keenum took a knee to run out the clock in Washington’s second win of the season.

It was a 19-16 comeback win over the Detroit Lions.

The weird ending confused even interim coach Bill Callahan.

“We were looking for him,” Callahan said. “I think he thought the game was over. I think he thought it was over. I’ll have to find out a little bit more.”

His actions angered at least one football great, as The New York Post reported.

“How do miss the last snap of a game because ur taking selfies,” tweeted Redskins legend Joe Theismann, who before the season gave Haskins his blessing to wear his former No. 7 for the first time since he retired in 1985. “That’s unprofessional & wrong.”

A fan seen in the selfie took the side of Haskins, retweeting Theismann’s tweet with the photo and the message: “OK. BOOMER.”

Alaska man arrested after allegedly smuggling $400G in drugs — stuffed in rotting goat intestines — at airport, officials say

A 71-year-old Alaska man was arrested after he was allegedly found with $400,000 worth of drugs — hidden inside rotting goat intestines — at an airport, authorities said.

Cenen Placencia was taken into custody Wednesday at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, months after officials opened an investigation to try to find a source of narcotics in Kodiak.

FLORIDA MAN HAD METH ‘WEDGED DEEP WITHIN’ BELLY BUTTON, COPS SAY

At the airport last week, investigators with Alaska State Troopers searched a large box that Placencia checked as luggage after he consented to a search, an affidavit filed with the charges stated.

Authorities said Cenen Placencia, 71, was arrested after he was allegedly caught with rotting goat intestines, that were apparently stuffed with drugs, at Anchorage, Alaska’s international airport on Wednesday. (iStock)

The box contained loosely wrapped frozen meat, with multiple small pieces of meat frozen together, and Placencia approved letting it thaw so authorities could further investigate. As the frozen items thawed, officials said they smelled rotting meat — that apparently turned out to be goat intestines — and a police dog detected drugs.

OHIO MOM WHO SAYS SHE SOLD METH TO PUT KID THROUGH COLLEGE IS SENTENCED

Placencia withdrew his consent to search the meat before it finished thawing, investigators said, prompting them to obtain a search warrant.

Once their search resumed, authorities found packages wrapped in plastic that contained about 740 grams of heroin and 389 grams of methamphetamine, the state’s Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

Placencia had been heading back to Kodiak when he was arrested, initially booking a morning flight and later rebooking for a late afternoon flight. Before that flight departed, Placencia agreed to be interviewed, and told investigators he packed the bag himself and denied knowing about the drugs.

The 71-year-old told investigators he bought the goat intestines for $140 from a California rancher for his own consumption, the affidavit states.

Placencia was taken into custody at the Anchorage jail, troopers said. He was arraigned Friday on a charge of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

Authorities said they began investigating Placencia in February, and in March served search warrants on his home, where they seized roughly 247 grams of heroin, 13 grams of crystal methamphetamine and nearly $2,280 in suspected drug proceeds, investigators said. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Sherman said those drugs are not included in the current charges.

“It’s just a way for me to connect more directly with you,” Watt added.

And yes, he actually texted some of his fans back.

He later tweeted: “Responded to a couple hundred texts already, but the inbox is currently sitting at 25,000+ 😂😂😂 I’m gonna continue to try it out to see how it goes and see if you guys like it as a more direct way to interact. One thing I can say is I truly appreciate all the kind words. 🙏🏼”

Rugby player takes metaphor to extreme with bizarre interview about getting back in saddle

An English rugby player took sports clichés to an entirely different level Wednesday when talking about his next match in a bizarre interview which has now gone viral.

Joe Marler, who plays for London-based Harlequins in the Gallagher Premiership, was previewing the club’s next match against Bath and essentially said his team needed to get back in the saddle.

ISRAEL FOLAU CLAIMS AUSTRALIA WILDFIRES RESULT OF COUNTRY LEGALIZING SAME-SEX MARRIAGE, ABORTION

Out of the gate, Marler explained his team’s disappointment following a 53-21 loss to French side Clermont Auvergne.

“I wasn’t hurting as much as the lads who were out there, but I definitely felt it and I know how hard the boys have taken that. They will be disappointed with the account that we put out,” Marler said, a fairly standard response for a sportsman after a bad defeat.

But we have got another week to get back on the horse, you know, and take that horse to the water. And you can ask that horse, you can say ‘hey, horsey, do you want to have a drink, or do you want to swim?’ It’s up to that horse to then realize what he wants to do in his life.

— Joe Marler

The interview then took a bizarre turn, however, when Marler added: “But we have got another week to get back on the horse, you know, and take that horse to the water. And you can ask that horse, you can say ‘hey, horsey, do you want to have a drink, or do you want to swim?’ It’s up to that horse to then realize what he wants to do in his life.”

He goes onto do an impression of an Irish talking horse that wants to greet fans at the club’s home stadium.

“That horse, at the moment, wants to go out on Saturday, he wants to clippity-clop all the way to The Stoop [the stadium] and he wants to say ‘Hello’ to those fans.

“And he goes ‘I’m sorry about the result last week, but I’m going to give a better performance here at home against Bath.’ He’s a slightly Irish horse. So we are looking forward, like I say, to getting back on that horse.”

Just to be clear, Marler said there’s no way he’s riding that horse.

“I don’t like horses. I can’t ride,” he said.

Maine owl gets lift in state trooper’s patrol car after rescue

It was a tough night for one large owl but a hoot for a Maine state trooper, according to a report.

A car apparently struck the owl in Manchester, outside Augusta, Friday night, leaving it in a disoriented state in the middle of a busy road.

That’s where a trooper on patrol, Sam Tlumac, found it, WTHR-TV reported Tuesday.

California man who stole endangered lemur from zoo sentenced to prison

California man who last year busted an endangered ring-tailed lemur out of his cage at the Santa Ana Zoo was sentenced on Monday to three months in federal prison, prosecutors announced.

Aquinas Kasbar, 19, of Orange County, also was ordered to pay $8,486 in restitution to the zoo, according to a news release from The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California.

Kasbar broke into the zoo after hours on July 27, 2018, and stole North America’s oldest ring-tailed lemur in captivity to keep the endangered animal as his pet, prosecutors said, adding that he used bolt cutters to cut a hole in the zoo’s enclosures for lemurs and capuchin monkeys, which caused several of the animals to escape. Crews later recovered those animals.

CALIFORNIA TEEN FACES YEAR IN JAIL AFTER STEALING LEMUR FROM ZOO IN LATE-NIGHT HEIST

After he stole the 33-year-old ring-tailed lemur named Isaac, Kasbar placed the animal in a plastic drawer that did not have ventilation holes, according to court papers.

The next day, Kasbar abandoned Isaac, leaving the animal in front of a Newport Beach hotel, according to court documents, which added that the ring-tailed lemur was in the same plastic drawer with two notes placed on it. The notes read, “Lemur (with tracker)” and “This belongs to the Santa Ana Zoo it was taken last night please bring it to police,” prosecutors said.

Isaac was returned unharmed to the Santa Ana Zoo and the break-in caused $8,486 worth of damage, according to investigators.

This past July, he pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of unlawfully taking an endangered species.

The misdemeanor count carried a maximum penalty of one year in federal prison and a $100,000 fine, the Orange County Register reported.

The ring-tailed lemur is native to Madagascar and is on a list of the 25 most endangered primates, according to court documents, which blamed the illegal pet trade in part for its endangered status.

The Nightmare on Wolcott Street in Waterbury decided to cover two statues of the Virgin Mary with sheets at the request of the mayor’s office, WTKR reported. Apparently, some locals mistook the statues as being part of the attraction and found it to be disrespectful.

HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSE RELEASES PICTURES OF TERRIFIED VISITORS

The owners of the haunted house attraction took to Facebook to explain the situation. Their post began, “First we want to apologize to anyone who’s been offended by the pic of the statues. They have nothing and will never have anything to do with Nightmare On Wolcott Street. That’s why they’re placed on the back dock in front of the restoration shop and not at our front entrance of Nightmare on Wolcott Street.”

The owners went to explain that most visitors wouldn’t even see the statues, except for customers that park in their lot. They also confirmed to Fox News that the statues had been sitting in that location for about five years and hadn’t ever been connected with the Halloween attraction until this year.

“Our blessed mother has never and will never be part of our haunted attraction,” the post continued. “They’re placed where they are at the restoration shop because we’re planning to restore them and use them for an upcoming 2020 Christmas nativity scene. Isn’t passing judgment before knowing the facts one of the biggest issues in today’s society? All it does is cause chaos like this. The statues will be covered while Nightmare on Wolcott Street is open in hopes to bring some peace to this matter!!! Thank you!”

Renee Dearborn spoke with Fox News and confirmed the confusion had been cleared up. Thankfully, the controversy didn’t seem to hurt business. While the weekend before Halloween usually has been busy, Dearborn confirmed that they saw an uptick in business this year.

Dearborn said she wanted to clarify that she couldn’t attribute it all to the attraction’s recent press. According to her, about half of the visitors hadn’t even heard of the controversy.

She also confirmed to Fox News that once the last ticket is sold for the haunted house attraction, the plastic wrap will be coming off the statues.
