Texas superintendent head-butted other superintendent at educators’ training, police say

The superintendent of a Texas school district has been briefly suspended after police claim he head-butted another superintendent while drunk at a fast-food restaurant.

Xavier De La Torre, superintendent of Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, was suspended without pay for three days on July 30 after the alleged altercation at a Whataburger in June.

Following the July 30 meeting, school district trustees said De La Torre’s suspension was “an appropriate cause of action due to Dr. De La Torre not advising the board promptly about the incident in question,” according to the El Paso Times. Trustees didn’t acknowledge De La Torre’s alleged conduct in the incident.

Xavier De La Torre, superintendent of Ysleta schools, was suspended last week after he failed to tell the school district he was involved in an incident with another superintendent in June. (Ysleta Independent School District)

A police report said De La Torre, in San Antonio with other educators for a training provided by the Texas Association of School Boards, appeared to be intoxicated and head-butted José Espinoza, superintendent for the Socorro Independent School District, which covers much of El Paso County.

De La Torre denied the incident last week, claiming he was not the aggressor and that he didn’t head-butt anyone. Espinoza, according to the Times, said the police report accurately stated what happened on June 13.

The superintendent reportedly makes around $314,000 a year and his contract with the school district runs until June 2024.

No criminal charges were filed following the reported altercation.

Twin brothers pulled over in Ohio for near-identical license plates while en route to Twins Festival

It’s safe to say: good things come in twos.

Twin brothers driving near-identical vehicles were pulled over Thursday while driving to the annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, after state troopers suspected the pair each had the same license plate number.

Andy Baker told FOX8 he and his identical brother Chad were heading to the festival from Nashville, Tenn. in separate blue Teslas when state troopers stopped them, although they were not speeding.

IDENTICAL TWIN SISTERS MARRY IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHERS

One trooper suspected the twins had the same license plate, making him do a double-take. Both license plates appeared to read: “SUBJ TO” to the officer — but moments later he stood corrected.

“He says, ‘Do you know why I pulled you over? You guys have the same license plate,” Andy told the station. “I said, ‘Incorrect’.”

Two twin brothers, who were sporting matching vehicles, were pulled over Thursday afternoon while driving to the annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio after state troopers suspected defective license plates. However, one is an O, the other is a zero.

The two twins are real estate investors, and “subject to” is a term used in the business. “One is an O, the other is a zero,” said Andy.

Last year, the twins were pulled over by Ohio authorities for speeding while driving to the festival at 58 mph — making this their second run-in with the law.

Last year, both Bakers were ticketed, but this time their luck held and the state trooper let them go.

“Nobody likes getting pulled over by police, we were both nervous, but it’s a great story and we will tell it all weekend.”

Tantrum, fight and truly bizarre touchdown celebration get NFL player cut

A tantrum, a fight and a bizarre touchdown celebration led one NFL player straight to the unemployment line.

Now-former Baltimore Raven Jordan Lasley got his walking papers Wednesday after a crazy week that included fighting with teammates, scoring a touchdown and inexplicably throwing a football into a pond. Lasley, a 2018 fifth-round pick out of UCLA, started out his terrible week by fighting with Ravens cornerback Cyrus Jones during drills. When safety Bennett Jackson tried to break it up, Lasley fought him, too.

TEXAS MAN ACCUSES DALLAS COWBOYS OF CONSPIRING WITH COPS TO COVER UP EZEKIEL ELLIOTT CAR CRASH

Fights are nothing new in training camps, but what happened next was surely a first. Lasley hauled in a touchdown pass and then promptly hurled the pigskin into a nearby pond. Days later, the Ravens cut him. Coach John Harbaugh insisted it had nothing to do with the fighting, and the team can surely afford footballs.

“We never cut anyone for fighting,” Harbaugh told ESPN.com. “It’s over a year now. From a fit perspective, in terms of what we’re trying to do with our offense, other guys are going to be a better fit.”

It is more likely that Lasley got cut on the merits- or lack of them. As a rookie last season, he never saw the field. That followed a junior year at UCLA in which he led the Pac 12 in receiving yards with 1,264 and caught 69 passes, including nine touchdowns, before declaring for the draft.

On Thursday, the Oakland Raiders claimed Lasley off waivers.

Rocket launcher discovered at BWI Airport; second found this week

Military equipment was seized at Baltimore Washington International Airport on Thursday — the second such seizure in days — after it was brought back on a military flight by a U.S. Air Force sergeant who kept it as a keepsake.

The rocket launch tube was discovered around 5:20 a.m. in the American Airlines baggage area of the airport, located in Maryland, the Office of the State’s Fire Marshal’s Bomb Squad announced.

A bomb squad seized an inert rocket launch tube at Baltimore Washington International Airport in Maryland on Thursday. (Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal)

Before being flown to the U.S., the “inert” equipment was inspected by U.S. military officials for safety and was “empty of any explosive hazard,” according to a press release from the office. It was returned to the country by a sergeant “as a souvenir of their service abroad.”

Authorities said the tube “presents no immediate threat to anyone on the ground,” but noted “there is a slight chance that it could contain pressurized gas, and was therefore not allowed on the Sergeant’s connecting commercial flight.”

The rocket launch tube was taken in by the bomb squad “until it can be safely returned to the owner.”

2 TSA OFFICERS PLACED ON LEAVE AFTER OFFENSIVE DISPLAY DISCOVERED AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

TSA reminded passengers earlier this week not to bring explosives or devices that shoot explosives on airplanes — even if they’re just replicas — after finding a fake grenade and a real missile launcher at two different airports.

Earlier this week at BWI in Maryland, TSA agents found a missile launcher in someone’s checked luggage. That passenger said he was active military personnel traveling home from Kuwait and also wanted to keep the missile launcher as a souvenir.

TSA also discovered a grenade at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey in someone’s checked luggage. Explosives experts eventually determined that it was actually a highly realistic replica of a grenade.

“Military weapons are not permitted in checked or carry-on bags,” said the transportation agency, which did not immediately return Fox News’ request for comment regarding Thursday’s equipment seizure.

One Nevada restaurant is making the most of the hordes of grasshoppers that have descended upon Las Vegas — by using them as inspiration for a pizza topping.

“What started out as a joke amongst our stoner friends has swept the nation,” Evel Pie, located on Fremont Street, announced on Facebook Tuesday. The pizza shop said their new pizza, dubbed “The Canyon Hopper,” is for “only the bravest daredevils.”

RESTAURANT BUSTED OVER SERVING PROTECTED TARANTULA TACOS

The pie consists of chorizo, goat cheese, caramelized onions, arugula, and, of course, lime- and garlic-roasted grasshoppers.

Described as “damn good,” Evel Pie said the creation’s tastiness surprised even the staff.

The inspiration for the pie likely stems from the insect influx Nevada has seen in recent weeks. Videos showed Las Vegas, in particular, was swarmed with grasshoppers — which pose no danger, as they don’t carry disease and don’t bite, according to scientists.

Jeff Knight, an entomologist with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, told local media last week that wet weather is probably to blame for the migration of adult pallid-winged grasshoppers.

He said the number of grasshoppers moving from north to central Nevada is rare, but noted that, as history shows, “when we have a wet winter or spring, these things build up often down below Laughlin and even into Arizona.”

The grasshopper invasion has been so prominent that the National Weather Service’s Las Vegas office released radar footage last week appearing to show a storm, which actually showed “biological targets” — the grasshoppers that invaded the city.

This year, the Las Vegas area recorded more rain in six months than the annual average of just under 4.2 inches per year.

Scottish farmers lose damages claim after neighbor’s bull impregnated their cow

A Scottish couple has had a compensation claim rejected after arguing one of their pedigree Highland cows became impregnated by their neighbor’s bull.

Bernard and Kathleen Allen of Great Bernera, Isle of Lewis, sought $24,000, claiming they repeatedly found Ozzy, a Belted Galloway bull on land where they kept their livestock.

The Allens sought more than $24,000 in compensation, according to the BBC. But their neighbors, David and Janine Hargreaves, who have since moved, denied they were at fault for the condition of a boundary fence.

After hearing the case at Stornoway Sheriff Court in Lewis, a sheriff rejected the compensation claim this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen stated in court that they became aware of the Hargreaves’ bull in 2009, alleging it ambled into their farmland about 30 times over the next year when a taller fence was built; another incident sparked anger when the bull clashed with one of their own.

They further alleged that in 2010, one of their Highland cattle gave birth to a Belted Galloway-cross calf after mating with the Hargreaves’ bull.

Sheriff David Sutherland said in his ruling the “real nature of the claim was a neighbor dispute,” and added that while he was in no doubt Mrs. Allen was “extremely distressed” by the situation, “this does not excuse coming to court and presenting a case which is, at best, exaggerated and unreliable.”

“I accept the evidence of Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves that while their cattle did go onto the crofts belonging to the pursuers, nonetheless that was only because of the state of repair of the fence which Mr. Allen was responsible for,” he said.

Fowl play? UK police ask ‘anyone missing 100 ducklings’ after odd roadside discovery

The baffling discovery of a large flock of ducklings on the side of the road has police in Scotland trying to quack the mystery.

“Anyone missing 100 Ducklings? Not the usual Saturday night crowd control! You never know what’s on the road,” Perth & Kinross Police reported from Perthshire.

Despite speculation on social media the flock had been dumped, officials said they did not believe there was any “fowl play,” the Dundee Courier reported.

The new leader of Britain’s House of Commons, known for his orate rhetoric and affinity for tradition, has issued a painstaking list of grammar and etiquette for his staff.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, who was appointed to his new role on Wednesday by new Prime Minister Boris Johnson, demanded in his rules that his staff stop using words such as “hopefully”, “very,” “due to” and “equal.”

A San Francisco couple had their $79 parking ticket waived after local media outlets reported their car had been stripped of its tires and propped up on milk crates in a street sweeping zone Tuesday.

Kristan Dow left her home in the city’s Richmond District to move her parked 2016 Toyota Corolla when she found the vehicle’s tires gone. She went inside to arrange for a tow and came back to find the car had been ticketed by a meter reader with San Francisco’s Department of Parking and Traffic.

“I was livid. I was completely livid when I walked outside,” Dow told the Bay Area’s FOX 2. “So it was kind of a slap in the face to an already horrible morning.”

SAN FRANCISCO PLANS TO RESERVE PARKING LOT FOR HOMELESS LIVING OUT OF VEHICLES: REPORTS

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency initially said the couple would have to contest the ticket, which would most likely be dismissed. The news outlet reported the agency later said it had the necessary details and documentation to rescind the citation.

A local Toyota dealer loaned the family four tires so a tow truck driver could bring the car to a shop without further damaging the car.

Dow’s husband, Dan, said the meter reader couldn’t have mistaken the car for a mechanic’s work-in-progress.

“This isn’t a 1965 Studebaker that’s in somebody’s front yard that they’re working on,” he said. “This is a Toyota Corolla. Nobody leaves a car like this sitting on milk crates on the street.”

The couple will have to pay a $1,000 deductible to pay for the $5,000 to replace the tires and damage to the car.

“I’m more upset about the $79 ticket than the $1,000 that I have to pay for this car,” Dan Dow said.
