Brit Hume says feeling self-assured led to ‘the kind of rage’ seen in today’s politics

When politicians and their supporters feel certain in their convictions and see opponents as insincere, it leads to the discord seen today in America, according to Brit Hume.

People are losing sight of the American custom of spirited disagreements and discussions often devolve into “rage,” Hume claimed Tuesday on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“Liberalism has changed and the attitudes of liberals have changed,” he said.

“What I sense in all this… is a loss of humility about one’s own political viewpoint.

DEM-LED HOUSE FORMALLY CONDEMNS TRUMP REMARKS DEEMED ‘RACIST,’ AFTER DRAMATIC FLOOR FIGHT OVER PELOSI

“People have such conviction and certainty, that their views are right and wise and obviously correct, that they therefore believe that anyone who holds opposing views cannot possibly be doing so for any sincere reason.”

Additionally, Hume said he believed opposing sides sometimes thought their rivals were believing what they believed for reasons of “racism or greed.”

“That kind of viewpoint leads to a kind of rage,” he said.

“‘How can anybody possibly think this?'” he continued, mentioning a politico’s possible thought.

In his own life, Hume said he has experienced such friction firsthand.

He said Twitter users have wondered aloud why he decided to join Fox News Channel.

“You used to be a very good journalist and used to be respected… then you sold out and went to Fox News,” he recalled one case, adding that he formerly reported for ABC News decades ago.

He said he kept his opinions to himself as a reporter, and later, an anchor on “Special Report,” but could express his views publicly now that he’s specifically a political analyst.

Rep. Jim Jordan: Dems ‘focused’ on impeaching Trump, ‘not going to stop at anything’

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, voiced his frustration with “the squad” Tuesday and reacted to the House of Representative’s vote to condemn President Trump’s controversial remarks.

“I mean they’re so focused on going after this president, so focused on actually getting to impeachment I believe that they’re not going to stop at anything even if it means breaking the rules on the House floor where there is a certain level of decorum that you must maintain,” Jordan said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”

The House passed a resolution Tuesday evening condemning Trump’s “racist” remarks this weekend.  The moment was overshadowed by a dramatic floor fight earlier in the day that ended with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ruled out of order for a breach of decorum.

Jordan defended the president’s comments and his displeasure with the Democrat’s position on the border with Mexico.

Jordan also blasted the four congresswomen, noting their past controversial comments saying it was difficult to work with them.

“These are the same people who said abolish ICE, abolish the Department of Homeland Security. I mean these are the radical positions they take,” Jordan said.

Brit Hume: Trump’s attacks on ‘the squad’ run risk uniting a fractured Democratic Party

Westlake Legal Group Hume-Trump_FOX-AP Brit Hume: Trump's attacks on 'the squad' run risk uniting a fractured Democratic Party fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/shows/special-report fox-news/politics/house-of-representatives/democrats fox-news/politics/house-of-representatives fox-news/politics/elections/democrats fox-news/person/rashida-tlaib fox-news/person/ilhan-omar fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/person/alexandria-ocasio-cortez fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc Charles Creitz article a1fa1b44-9b5d-54bd-b1b1-f6675d87fd0c

President Trump risks uniting a Democratic Party otherwise enmeshed in a battle between moderate and progressive factions by attacking the latter group, according to Brit Hume.

Democrats were internally warring on an ideological level ahead of the 2020 elections, and Trump’s pointed critiques put their differences on pause, Hume claimed Monday on “Special Report.”

“It’s striking that these Democrats were at war with this group of four and the president decided it was a good idea to get in the middle of it,” he said, referring to Reps. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.

“If you’re looking for one thing that would tend to unite Democrats, it’s their loathing of Donald Trump.

AOC ‘SQUAD’ REFERS TO TRUMP AS ‘OCCUPANT’ OF WHITE HOUSE, CONDEMNS ‘RACIST’ REMARKS, AS TRUMP FIRES BACK

“If you want them to continue to stumble along — the Democrats — the way they seem to be fighting amongst themselves, it not at all clear to me that his getting in the middle of that is going to help that cause at all.”

In response, host Bret Baier asked Hume about how conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh appeared to take the opposite tack on that subject.

Limbaugh recently claimed Trump wants to see the Democrats united so he can pin ‘the squad’s’ political platform on all of them.

“I don’t think Trump likes the rift,” he said.

“I think Trump wants the Democratic Party to become known as the ‘Alexandria-Ocasio-Cortez-Green New Deal-Socialism Party’ —  I think he wants to hang that label around all of them, and for that to happen they have to be unified.”

Responding to Limbaugh, Hume said the radio host’s theory is plausible, but reiterated Trump should not be making such pointed comments as he had about lawmakers like Omar going “back” where they came from.

“Trump’s remarks were so blunt, so crude, so xenophobic, so nativist, that it opens up the charge he is a racist,” Hume said, adding however did not make specifically racist remarks.

He said the term “racist” is tossed around public discourse at inappropriate times.

Hume said it is however acceptable to consider the president’s statements “intolerant.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar fired a heated broadside at President Trump in the wake of his recent inflammatory tweets about the Minnesota Democrat and other progressive congresswomen.

Speaking during a news conference alongside Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., Omar forcefully went after Trump.

“This is a president who has ultimately violated the very value our country aspires to uphold,” she said in the stunning attack.

“To distract from that, he is launching a blatantly racist attack on four duly-elected members of the United States House of Representatives, all of whom are women of color.

AOC ‘SQUAD’ HOLDS NEWS CONFERENCE AFTER TRUMP DOUBLES DOWN ON EXPLOSIVE CALL FOR THEM TO ‘GO BACK’ HOME

“This is the agenda of white nationalists. He would love nothing more to divide our country based on race, religion, gender, orientation or immigration status.”

Omar, a frequent critic of the president and subject of his ire, earlier attempted to use Trump’s own expletive-laded statements against him.

“This is a president who has said ‘grab women by the p—-,'” she said. “This is a president who has called black athletes ‘sons of b—-es.’ This is a president who has called people who come from black and brown countries ‘sh–holes.’ This is a president who has equated neo-Nazis with those who protest against them in Charlottesville.”

Omar later declared that “it is time for us to impeach this president” for “openly violating” his constitutional oath.

TRUMP DOUBLES DOWN ON ‘GO BACK’ TWEETS AMID OUTRAGE, CALLS ON ‘RADICAL’ REPS TO APOLOGIZE

“The eyes of history are watching us” in this “pivotal moment,” Omar said.

Pressley, in her remarks, repeatedly referred to Trump as “the occupant of the White House” seeking to “marginalize and silence” the women, but quickly turned her focus to various issues, from gun violence to immigration.

Just hours earlier, President Trump forcefully doubled down on his call for progressive congresswomen to “go back” to where they came from — and demanded they “apologize” for what he called their anti-American “hate.”

Omar asserted that the U.S. had a “long way” to go until it could live up to its founding values. She repeated unsubstantiated allegations that people were drinking from “toilets” in immigrant detention centers. U.S. officials have fiercely contested those claims.

HILLARY CLINTON ATTACKS TRUMP OVER TWEET AIMED AT PROGRESSIVE CONGRESSWOMEN

“Right now, the president is committing human rights abuses at the border,” Omar said, before saying Trump has been “credibly accused” of criminal conduct. Omar also slammed Trump for keeping children in “cages” — prompting Trump to tweet, minutes after the news conference, that illegal-immigrant children were photographed in cages under the Obama administration.

Trump added that he wants to fix the “BAD IMMIGRATION LAWS” that lead to poor border conditions and overcrowding.

Tlaib, speaking separately, backed Omar’s call for impeachment, saying Trump’s language was “disgusting and bigoted” and that his administration was “lawless.”

Asked by Fox News’ Chad Pergram about Trump’s criticisms of Omar’s remarks as anti-American, Omar slammed the president’s “complete hypocrisy,” and said his presidential campaign was founded on all the things “wrong” with the United States.

David Avella: Tom Steyer is Biden’s biggest threat

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6057347981001_6057347777001-vs David Avella: Tom Steyer is Biden’s biggest threat fox-news/politics/elections/democrats fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/person/tom-steyer fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc e5cbaf93-1c9e-5a98-bec8-8b7561a1823b David Avella article

President Trump’s impeachment organizer Tom Steyer has joined the race to become the Democratic presidential nominee with a pledge to spend $100 million of his own billion-dollar fortune. While it will not put him any closer to defeating Donald Trump, it does likely close the door on former Vice President Joe Biden winning the nomination.

Steyer’s notoriety comes from donating the billions he has made investing in fossil fuels, private prisons and subprime lending companies into progressive activism for impeaching President Trump and reckless environmental policies.

TOM STEYER HITS BACK AT ‘INSIDER’ DEMOCRATIC RIVALS AFTER SANDERS, WARREN SWIPES

He will be pushing the same radical, job-killing climate change ideas that those defining the progressive agenda such as New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senators Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have been screaming for. The difference is Steyer’s pledge to spend $100 million means he will be a loud voice that voters will hear and see.

Steyer’s spending doesn’t guarantee voters will get behind his candidacy, but it does mean Biden will have to fend off attacks on his pragmatism or risk losing ground to Harris, Warren or Sanders.

He also ensures the eventual Democratic nominee will have to put economic socialism and environmental recklessness at the forefront of his or her message.

To date, Biden’s weakening support has been as much a matter of his own missteps as specific attacks by other candidates. His opponents have already increased attention to his record on race, his age, and not being connected to today’s Democratic Party – not to mention his propensity for being overly touchy.

Still, the negative quotient has been diffuse, making it hard to distinguish noise from actual sound. All that changes when Steyer puts his money on the table. The sheer amount he spends on a given message will force the discussion in that direction.

This will happen very quickly.  Steyer is already on television with advertising totaling $1.5 million in the first four contests — Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. The impact of Steyer’s candidacy is one more nail in the coffin that will become the Biden for President campaign.

Also, while Biden is seemingly content to mechanically run his campaign as he has in his previous two bids for the presidency, Steyer will be relying on modern technology to get the job done. Two early states, Iowa and Nevada, are allowing votes to be cast for their caucuses using a mobile phone. It will hardly be a shocker when Steyer’s forces go to university campuses to engage and activate students on the spot to vote for their man.

These activists are determined to have their voices heard. And the Steyer candidacy will have the infrastructure to make it happen. The more progressive and single-issue environmental voters participate in early contests, the larger a turnout there will be for Steyer, Harris, Sanders and Warren.

The more Steyer talks about carbon-free sources of energy, the more Biden will be forced to admit to Pennsylvania coal miners that he is ready to sell them out.

The more ground Biden cedes to progressive, single-issue environmental causes, the harder it will be for him to, with any credibility, claim to be a champion for blue collar manufacturing workers.

Biden has now endorsed the Green New Deal but that does not mean he will receive a pass from the greener factions of the Democrat Party.

The self-funding Steyer also widens a vulnerability for Biden that is already being exploited by Warren – and that is his coziness with lobbyists and wealthy donors.

Just like Donald Trump in 2016, Steyer will be able to make the case that he doesn’t need special interest money because he is spending his own – and then point to Biden as part of the swamp.

The knock on Steyer is whether he’s the answer to the biggest question being asked by Democrats: “Who can beat President Trump?”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

The GOP is ready to spend in the billions to win President Trump a second term.  Not even Steyer has the money it would need to overtake a well-funded incumbent party.

If Steyer actually comes through on his pledge to spend $100 million to push impeachment and progressive causes that Biden won’t support, then he is in the perfect position to spoil the race for Biden – and tip the race to Harris, Sanders or Warren.

Did someone say Steyer for Vice President?

O’Rourke says he and wife descended from slave owners, has ‘more personal connection’ to slavery

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke revealed on Twitter Sunday that he and his wife Amy are both descended from slave owners.

“Something that we’ve been talking about in town hall meetings – the legacy of slavery in the United States – now has a much more personal connection,” O’Rourke said. “I was recently given documents showing that both Amy and I are descended from people who owned slaves.”

O’Rourke included a link to a medium.com article he wrote titled “Rose and Eliza,” in reference to two slaves one his distance relatives owned.

“A paternal great-great-great grandfather of mine, Andrew Cowan Jasper, owned these two women in the 1850s,” O’Rourke wrote.

What is going on in this country right now, especially on Capitol Hill, is nothing short of deceitful behavior which intentionally distorts the truth in order to win a political battle.

I saw it firsthand when I testified on Capitol Hill this past Friday, in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.  Aside from the six minutes I was given to read my opening statement, there was an attempt by most  Democrats on that committee to silence me.

BIDEN REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE FOR HIGH DEPORTATION NUMBERS DURING OBAMA YEARS

The issues surrounding zero tolerance and the conditions of confinement at Border Patrol stations is an important one and it is vital that the American people know the facts. But every time one of the witnesses or members of Congress said something that was downright wrong – a lie, an intentional mis-truth – and I attempted to speak up and correct the record, I was refused many times the opportunity to speak.

They didn’t want to hear from me. They didn’t want the truth. They simply wanted to continue to push their false narrative about the Border Patrol and ICE.  They wanted to continually attack our president.

The hearing was nothing but political theater to misinform the American people. It was politics at its worse.

Toward the second half of the hearing, I finally decided that I was not going to be silenced any longer. If they didn’t want to hear what I had to say, then I was going to interject, interrupt and speak to the American people.  I refuse to be bullied, and I will not be silenced in my support of the Border Patrol and ICE or in support of the truth.

Further, as ICE prepared to conduct a nationwide operation, Democratic leaders such as Nancy Pelosi held a press conference to instruct those who have violated our nation’s laws on how they can evade federal law enforcement.  How they can evade the law.  How what ICE is doing is un-American and they need to resist.

Are you kidding me?

The Speaker of the House, a lawmaker for decades, is instructing those who have violated the laws that Congress enacted – who were ordered removed from the country by a federal judge after due process – to evade arrest?  Since when is that appropriate?  What other laws can we ignore?  What other law enforcement officers should we evade?  Can I ignore the tax law and not pay my taxes?

The Speaker has made it clear that we can pick and choose what laws we want to abide by. Is that also true for all the mayors who are all over TV saying they will resist ICE and help people evade arrest? Can we pick and choose what laws we abide when we’re in their cities? Can we park in no parking zones in San Francisco and not worry about paying fines? Can we evade Atlanta’s police officers when they are trying to execute a judge’s order? Can we resist police in Chicago when we don’t want to be arrested? If not, why not? All of these mayors have made it clear we can pick and choose what laws we want to respect, and we can ignore the ones we don’t like.

This behavior by Democratic politicians both on the Hill and in our cities and states will result in several things:

First, it puts the public in more danger.

It certainly puts ICE officers in more danger.

And it will lead to unrest and violence and death.

It’s already happened. On Saturday, an armed man, after attending a protest at an ICE contract facility in Aurora, Colorado, tried to burn down the facility. Do you think he’d heard all the words of these politicians? Saying resist ICE, ICE is bad, ICE are Nazis, ICE runs concentration camps? Not only did this man lose his life when police shot him, he tried to burn down a facility where there were American civilian workers and hundreds of illegal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and many other countries.

When politicians incite discourse and hate, this is what happens.

Here are some facts that these Democrats don’t want you to know:

For all their pleas about locking up innocent people trying to make a better life for themselves, here is the truth: 72 percent of everyone in ICE custody are mandatorily detained by law, most for criminal activity.  Congress has said that they must be detained – not by choice, but by law. All of these politicians who keep saying they want to do away with detention are saying this in spite of the fact it is their laws, passed by Congress, that say these people MUST be detained because of danger or other circumstances.

Another fact is this: nearly 8.5 of every 10 people arrested by ICE are either convicted criminals or are facing pending criminal charges.  Therefore, these facilities are helping the U.S. government and ICE to keep our communities safe.

Another fact: For all the politicians’ talk about “for profit for prisons” – these contract facilities, like the one in Colorado, have doctors, nurses, dentists, psychologists, recreation, law libraries, three nutritious meals a day, all dictated by the detention standards that were created not just by ICE but by professional outside partners.  All of these standards are inspected and overseen by several different investigative agencies that perform unannounced audits and inspections, including the Office of Detention Oversight, Office of Professional Responsibility, the DHS Inspector General, and more.

Do you think the person who attempted to burn that facility down and kill hundreds of people ever heard any of these facts?

Not if he was listening to the Democrats who want to abolish ICE and all detention.

Facts. Something that has escaped the breath of the Democratic leadership and the media that want open borders.

Who pays the price for all these lies? The American people – who will be less safe if ICE isn’t allowed to do their jobs to arrest, detain and remove those that the law says MUST be removed.

House Democrats take aim at AOC’s chief of staff for tweet targeting Native American lawmaker

The official House Democrats Twitter account took a shot at the chief of staff of U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday night, responding belatedly, but strongly, to a comment he made weeks ago, directed at U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, D-Kansas.

“Who is this guy and why is he explicitly singling out a Native American woman of color?” the Democratic Caucus posted, in a comment directed at Saikat Chakrabarti, who works for Ocasio-Cortez.

The comment also seemed to be a dig at Ocasio-Cortez herself, following her recent comments accusing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of targeting progressive Democrats based on race.

AOC UPS ANTE IN FEUD WITH PELOSI, SUGGESTS SPEAKER IS ‘SINGLING OUT’ NEWLY ELECTED ‘WOMEN OF COLOR’

“Her name is Congresswoman Davids, not Sharice,” the House Democrats added. “She is a phenomenal new member who flipped a red seat blue. Keep Her Name Out Of Your Mouth.”

Pelosi said Thursday she recently addressed — “at the request of my members” — an “offensive tweet that came out of one of the member’s offices” that compared centrist Democrats to segregationists. That tweet was authored and then deleted by Chakrabarti.

Ocasio-Cortez has since accused Pelosi of being “disrespectful” to several “newly elected women of color.”

The House Democrats’ tweet included a screenshot of Chakrabarti’s response to someone on Twitter saying that while Davids is not racist her votes are “enabling a racist system.”

“I think the point still stands. I don’t think people have to be personally racist to enable a racist system. And the same could even be said of the Southern Democrats. I don’t believe Sharice is a racist person, but her votes are showing her to enable a racist system,” Chakrabarti tweeted on June 27, the night of the second Democratic presidential debate in Miami.

Chakrabarti responded to the House Democrats’ Twitter handle Friday night, asking why they did not point out that he was responding to someone else who brought up Davids.

“Why did you leave that out?” he asked.

“I’ve known Rep. Davids for a long time, consider her a friend, and encouraged her to run for Congress back in the fall of 2016. I’m glad she did,” Chakrabarti tweeted.

“Everything I tweeted 2 weeks ago was to call out the terrible border funding bill that 90+ Dems opposed. It gave Trump a blank check to continue caging people in horrendous conditions. Our Democracy is literally falling apart. I’m not interested in substance-less Twitter spats,” Chakrabarti said in a follow-up tweet.

Primary challenge to Amy McGrath’s bid to take down McConnell ‘might be helpful,’ Dem lawmaker says

The knives are out for Amy McGrath.

Rep. John Yarmuth, the only Democrat elected to federal office from Kentucky, hinted Thursday that McGrath, a Marine combat aviator, might not be the best candidate to take down Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell next year as a series of unforced errors have already buffeted her campaign in its first two days.

Yarmuth told the Louisville Courier-Journal that McGrath made a “pretty significant mistake” by indicating that she would have voted to confirm Brett Kavanuagh to the Supreme Court on Wednesday. McGrath, who said she opposed Kavanaugh at the time of his contentious confirmation fight, flip-flopped four hours later on social media and said that after “reflection,” she would have voted against Kavanaugh.

Yarmuth told the paper that the first days of McGrath’s campaign “could have gone smoother,” despite raising a whopping $2.5 million in its first 24 hours prior to hitting turbulence.

“By her own admission she made a pretty significant mistake and corrected it,” the seven-term lawmaker said. “I hope she prepares a little bit better for the rest of the campaign. I’m sure she will.”

“I think a primary might be helpful in this situation,” Yarmuth added. “Because whoever is going to face off against Mitch McConnell really needs to get their game in shape. Certainly, Amy would be a favorite in any kind of primary, but I think it would help her and if somebody else could beat her they would have demonstrated their strength as well.”

“I think a primary might be helpful in this situation.”

— Kentucky Democrat Rep. John Yarmuth

McGrath’s campaign launch Tuesday was aided by a breathless NBC News report hours earlier that McConnell’s distant ancestors owned slaves — a revelation blunted by McConnell pointing out that President Barack Obama’s ancestors did as well.

In another striking moment, an eager MSNBC anchor also urged McGrath to tell viewers how they could easily donate to her campaign online.

But McGrath, who ran unsuccessfully for the House last year, was quickly criticized for her claim in a televised interview earlier on Tuesday that President Trump’s election was similar to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Then she opened the floodgates in an interview with the Courier-Journal, Kentucky’s highest-circulation newspaper.

“You know, I think that with Judge Kavanaugh, yeah, I probably would have voted for him,” McGrath said Wednesday.

“I didn’t listen to all of the hearings. I don’t think there was anything, and I’m not a lawyer or a senator on the Judiciary Committee, so I don’t know the criteria,” McGrath offered. “But I was very concerned about Judge Kavanaugh, what I felt like were the far-right stances that he had. However, there was nothing in his record that I think would disqualify him in any way. And the fact is when you have the president and the Senate, this is our system and so I don’t think there was anything that would have disqualified him in my mind.”

Although McGrath called Christine Blasey Ford’s accusations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh in high school “credible,” she reiterated that she did not view them as “disqualifying.”

“Well, I mean I think again, I think it’s credible but given the amount of time that lapsed in between and from a judicial standpoint, I don’t think it would really disqualify him,” McGrath said.

Four hours after her remarks were published, McGrath tweeted a mea culpa that immediately drew scorn from both Democrats and Republicans.

“I was asked earlier today about Judge Brett Kavanaugh and I answered based upon his qualifications to be on the Supreme Court. But upon further reflection and further understanding of his record, I would have voted no,” McGrath wrote.

She continued: “I know I disappointed many today with my initial answer on how I would have voted on Brett Kavanaugh. I will make mistakes and always own up to them. The priority is defeating Mitch McConnell.”

Reaction on social media was unsparing.

“This, my friends, is what we call an unforced error,” journalist Yashar Ali observed.

“Take your third position on this later, the night is young,” said Jake Wilkins, the communications director for North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer.

Read the headline of an article on the left-wing blog Jezebel: “Unfortunately, the Woman Trying to Unseat Mitch McConnell Also Kind of Sucks.”

McGrath narrowly lost a House race to an incumbent Republican in Kentucky last year. During that race, McGrath slammed Kavanaugh and suggested she would not support his confirmation — leading some prominent commentators on social media to charge that McGrath’s flip-flop was actually multi-layered.
