Former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday was seemingly embarrassed after a rallygoer joked about some of his most recent controversies.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Nevada, a supporter shouted at Biden: “You can hug and kiss me anytime, Joe!”

JILL BIDEN: JOE HAS CHANGED, KNOWS TO ‘BACK OFF AND GIVE PEOPLE SPACE’

The 2020 contender smiled and looked out into the crowd, before laughing. Biden then did the sign of the cross and said, “That’s very nice, thank you.”

The supporter’s remark came shortly after he took the stage to applause. Biden told the crowd they should expect him to work hard as he vies for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Multiple women in recent months have accused the former vice president of touching them inappropriately at events.

Writer D.J. Hill alleged that at a 2012 fundraising event in Minneapolis, Biden put his hand on her shoulder, then dropped it down her back in a way that made her “very uncomfortable” while Hill and her husband posed for pictures with him.

In another incident, former college student Caitlyn Caruso claimed Biden put his hand on her thigh and hugged her for “just a little bit too long” at an event on sexual assault at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

Biden responded to the allegations of misconduct in a video posted to social media. He said that “social norms are changing,” and he’s “heard what these women are saying.”

“Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future,” Biden said. “That’s my responsibility and I will meet it.”

South Bend mayor and 2020 Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg  said Tuesday he believed that religion shouldn’t be used as a political “cudgel,” but then immediately suggested that God wouldn’t be a Republican.

Buttigieg has often discussed his faith on the campaign trail, which NBC’s Craig Melvin mentioned during an interview that aired on “The Today Show” Tuesday.

“You also spend a fair amount of time talking about your faith… why?” Melvin asked.

“It’s important to me,” Buttigieg responded. “I think it’s also important that we stop seeing religion used as a kind of cudgel, as if God belonged to a political party. If he did, I can’t imagine it would be the one that sent the current president into the White House.”

Buttigieg, who is openly gay, has repeatedly attacked Vice President Mike Pence over his religious views pertaining to LGBT issues and questioned the faith of Pence and President Donald Trump.

“How would (Pence) allow himself to become the cheerleader for the porn star presidency? Is it that he stopped believing in scripture when he started believing Donald Trump?” Buttigieg asked during a televised town hall.

Democratic congresswoman Tlaib accuses Israel of oppressing, targeting ‘Palestinian children and families’

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., has accused Israeli forces of targeting Palestinian children and families after a bloody weekend in the bitter conflict.

Tlaib leveled the accusation while responding to criticism of a New York Times headline that read: “Gaza Militants Fire 250 Rockets, and Israel Responds With Airstrikes.”

Yousef Munayyer, a pro-Palestinian campaigner, tweeted out a screenshot of the headline, which he called “stunningly irresponsible and misleading.”

Tlaib joined in, writing: “When will the world stop dehumanizing our Palestinian people who just want to be free? Headlines like this & framing it in this way just feeds into the continued lack of responsibility on Israel who unjustly oppress & target Palestinian children and families. #FreePalestine.”

RASHIDA TLAIB SAYS SHE WAS ‘AFRAID’ OF AMERICANS AFTER 9/11 — AND THAT FEAR PUSHED HER INTO POLITICS

Reaction to the tweet was mixed, with some expressing their support of the sentiment while others critiqued the congresswoman’s language.

The comments came as the Israeli military lifted protective restrictions on residents in southern Israel on Monday, while Gaza’s ruling Hamas militant group reported a cease-fire deal had been reached to end the deadliest fighting between the two sides since a 2014 war.

The escalation had killed 23 on the Gaza side, both militants and civilians, while on the Israeli side four civilians were killed from incoming fire.

The intense fighting over the past two days came to a halt in the early morning hours and residents on both sides went back to their daily routines. The Israeli military said that as of 7 a.m., “all protective restrictions in the home front will be lifted.”

Schools and roads had been closed, and residents had been encouraged to remain indoors and near bomb shelters as intense rocket fire pounded the area, threatening to devolve into all-out war.

Israel and Hamas are bitter enemies and have fought three wars and numerous smaller battles since the Islamic militant group seized Gaza in 2007.

In the latest fighting, which erupted over the weekend, Palestinian militants fired hundreds of rockets into Israel, while the Israeli military responded with airstrikes on some 350 militant targets inside Gaza, including weapons storage, attack tunnels and rocket launching and production facilities.

It also deployed tanks and infantry forces to the Gaza frontier, and put another brigade on standby. A Hamas commander involved in transferring Iranian funds to the group was killed in an airstrike, in an apparent return to Israel’s policy of “targeting killing” of militant leaders.

Palestinian medical officials reported 23 deaths, including at least nine militants as well as two pregnant women and two babies. The four Israeli civilians killed were the first Israeli fatalities from rocket attacks since the 50-day war in 2014.

Hillary Clinton suggested she had the 2016 election “stolen” from her during the latest stop of her slumping speaking tour.

Taking the stage with her husband Bill in Los Angeles Saturday night as part of the couple’s “Evening with the Clintons” tour, the former Democratic presidential nominee told the crowd she has been warning potential candidates they could suffer the same fate.

TICKET PRICES PLUNGE FOR BILL AND HILLARY CLINTON’S SPEAKING TOUR

“I think it’s also critical to understand that, as I’ve been telling candidates who have come to see me, you can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you,” the former secretary of state said.

She’s hardly the only prominent Democrat claiming to have been wrongly kept out of office. On Friday, Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams again claimed she won the state’s 2018 gubernatorial race, despite losing to now-Gov. Brian Kemp.

“I’m here to tell you a secret that makes Breitbart and [Fox News host] Tucker Carlson go crazy: We won,” Abrams said, according to The Houston Chronicle. “I am not delusional. I know I am not the governor of Georgia — possibly yet.”

Abrams justified her refusal to accept the result of the election by calling Kemp “an architect of voter suppression that spent the last eight years knitting together a system of voter suppression that is unparalleled in America.”

At the Clinton event, the crowd broke out in applause after Hillary Clinton delivered the “stolen” election line, before she continued with a jab at President Trump.

“And that, my friends, has nothing to do with the economy,” she said.

“So part of our challenge is to understand what it will take to put together not only the popular vote but the Electoral College.”

Clinton won the popular vote in her 2016 campaign against Trump, but lost the Electoral College — and with it, the race.

The declaration wasn’t the only headline Hillary Clinton made with her tour over the weekend, with the defeated 2016 candidate telling a crowd in Seattle that Attorney General William Barr would rather “be the president’s defense lawyer than the chief law enforcement officer of our country.”

The former first lady also questioned how Trump could still hold conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the release of the information in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

HILLARY CLINTON SLAMS TRUMP FOR FRIENDLY CALL WITH PUTIN, BLASTS BARR AS ‘PRESIDENT’S DEFENSE LAWYER’

Mueller’s report “not only decisively proves, but goes chapter and verse about how the Russians — in the words of the report — conducted ‘a sweeping and systemic interference in our election,’ ” she said, according to the Seattle Times. “And then you wake up and your president is spending an hour on the phone with Vladimir Putin, who was the mastermind of the interference and attack on our election.”

The charge came after president and Putin on Friday discussed what Trump again dismissed as the “Russian Hoax” in their first known phone call since the release of Mueller’s report.

Trump said that, at no point, did he warn Putin not to meddle in the next election.

“We discussed it,” Trump said of the report. “He actually sort of smiled when he said something to the effect that, ‘It started off as a mountain and it ended up being a mouse,'” Trump said of Putin. “But he knew that because he knew there was no collusion whatsoever. So pretty much that’s what it was.”

Tickets for the Clintons’ speaking tour have gone for as little as $20 on the secondary market, The New York Post reported.

Official prices for the Seattle event ranged between $66.50 and $519, according to the Seattle Times.

David Avella: Joe Biden is going to lose, early and big

Former Vice President Joe Biden will not be our next president. Joe Biden will not even be the Democratic nominee. Joe Biden is going to lose. He’s going to lose early, and lose big.

Let us start with the fact that top Internet and social media search topics are “Creepy Joe” and “Joe Biden age.” This is not launching a campaign from a position of strength. Despite his best efforts to inoculate himself from political mistakes, Joe Biden is simply the wrong guy in the wrong year.

The natural argument for Biden is he would be an extension of the Obama presidency. After all, he did serve two terms as President Obama’s vice president. It was a good argument for 2016. It is a non-starter in 2020, plus President Obama politely, because Biden allegedly asked, will not be endorsing his old running mate. As an aside, a resourceful fact checker might want to evaluate whether this is a “false or misleading” claim.

JASON NICHOLS: BIDEN’S FUTURE AS PRESIDENT RESTS ON HIS SUCCESS IN FIXING HIS PAST

It is not surprising that President Obama is not endorsing his chosen vice president and, according to recent media accounts, urged him not to run in 2016. Let us remember that President Obama had to endorse Biden in 2012 to calm Democratic jitters about keeping him as vice president because of his verbal gaffes. Once Biden starts talking, he invariably goes on until he says something that is offensive or embarrassing. And right now, there is no easier group to offend and embarrass than Democratic primary voters.

Absent his old running mate, critics will quickly turn to the laundry list of mistakes Biden has made during his more than 45 years in elected office. The first is how he handled the 1991 allegations Anita Hill made against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, which Biden tried to apologize for prior to launching his campaign.

Biden and the other declared Democratic candidates have yet to turn their fire on each other. Once they do, you can guarantee that the former vice president will be the first candidate attacked.

Next, you will be reminded that Biden’s record includes fighting to prevent school busing to achieve desegregation. He even “colluded” with the late Jesse Helms on this one. And then there is Robert E. Lee. As statues and memorials to Confederate leaders are being removed from public spaces, how many Democrats will agree that Biden is in line with the progressive wing of his party when he proudly voted to restore the citizenship of Robert E. Lee?

Biden is four years too late. The 2016 election offered Biden the opportunity to make the case that it would be a good idea to continue what the Obama administration had begun. Looking at history, you could even conclude that this would have been especially true in a campaign against Donald Trump.

Again, it is not 2016. Donald Trump won and is actually president, although many in the media and far left continue to deny any of this.

The old rules and adages may not have been rendered inoperative, but it is much harder to take them to the bank than in the past. In 2020, the Democrats, almost by definition, are working towards putting forward a candidate offering a sharp contrast to President Trump.

Democrats lose when they go with the establishment candidate. Former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama ran as outsiders who up-ended their party’s power structure by defeating the party insiders’ candidate(s). If you are the perceived flag-bearer of the Democratic establishment and are compared to the creepy uncle with a problem for respecting personal space while you are also the candidate who is on record praising Robert E. Lee, how much more fodder can you give your Democratic primary opponents? For 2020 Democrats, it is hard to imagine them concluding this to be the sharp contrast to President Trump they will demand.

When a candidate is the front-runner, he or she can sustain early hits, even a hiccup in the early nominating states. Biden and the other declared Democratic candidates have yet to turn their fire on each other. Once they do, you can guarantee that the former vice president will be the first candidate attacked. It will get very personal and gloves-off nasty sooner rather than later.

What a front-runner cannot endure is a rapid evaporation of his or her support. This is what is in store for Joe Biden. He will be out of the race by the time the South Carolina primary votes are counted.

Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams again claimed she won the state’s 2018 gubernatorial race on Friday, despite losing to now-Gov. Brian Kemp — telling supporters, “I’m not a good sport.”

“I’m here to tell you a secret that makes Breitbart and [Fox News host] Tucker Carlson go crazy: We won,” Abrams said, according to The Houston Chronicle. “I am not delusional. I know I am not the governor of Georgia — possibly yet.”

DEMOCRATS ABRAMS, GILLUM QUESTION OUTCOMES OF 2018 GUBERNATORIAL RACES

She made the remarks an a Houston fundraiser hosted by Annie’s List, a group that seeks to elect progressive women into office. Abrams justified her refusal to accept the result of the election by calling Kemp “an architect of voter suppression that spent the last eight years knitting together a system of voter suppression that is unparalleled in America.”

According to Texas Tribune reporter Patrick Svitek, she said in her remarks that “we don’t have to concede elections anymore, because when we concede, we are condoning systems that are used to oppress us.”

Abrams has considered both a Senate and presidential run and has been floated as a possible vice presidential candidate. She delivered the formal State of the Union response to President Trump in January.

STACEY ABRAMS WON’T RUN FOR SENATE IN 2020

She announced this week that she will not run for the Senate in 2020 and that she was “going to continue to watch how the national conversation around the presidency unfolds.”

Yet she has repeatedly questioned the outcome of the 2018 race and refused to concede, saying in March, “I did win my election. I just didn’t get to have the job.”

It is unclear if Democratic Party leadership will be put off by her refusal to accept the election result, less than four years after many Democrats expressed horror at then-candidate Donald Trump’s statements that he may not accept the results of the presidential election.

“I will look at it at the time,” Trump said in 2016 when asked in a presidential debate if he would accept the result of the election.

“That’s horrifying,” then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton responded. “This is how Donald thinks, and it’s funny but it’s also really troubling. This is now how our democracy works.

Abrams on Friday, in video captured by The Texas Signal, indicated that any future run will not be preceded by a concession. She said that “usually candidates feel like they have to concede if they want to run for office again to show that they’re a good sport.”

“I am not a good sport,” she said to applause.

Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was slammed by top Democrats Friday after Caliburn International announced he had joined the board of the conglomerate that operates the largest facility for migrant children in the U.S.

Caliburn International’s CEO James Van Dusen said in a news release: “With four decades of military and humanitarian leadership, in-depth understanding of international affairs and knowledge of current economic drivers around the world, General Kelly is a strong strategic addition to our team.”

In December, President Trump announced that Kelly would leave his position at the end of 2018.

Some members of Congress have described “prison-like” conditions in the facility in Homestead, Fla.

KAMALA HARRIS ASKS DOJ IG TO PROBE WHETHER TRUMP ASKED BARR TO INVESTIGATE POLITICAL OPPONENTS

Democratic members of Congress, including 2020 presidential contenders, quickly condemned Kelly’s appointment.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. tweeted: “John Kelly pushed for family separation while in the White House. Now he’ll profit off of separating mamas from their babies.”

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., another 2020 presidential contender, tweeted: “John Kelly was the architect of the Trump Administration’s cruel child separation policy. Now he will profit off the separation of families. It’s unethical. We are better than this.”

Democratic presidential contender Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., wrote: “Profiting from your own cruel policies. This is disgusting.”

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro and 2020 presidential contender called Kelly’s appointment “unbelievable.”

“This is unforgivable,” tweeted U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who represents the district where the facility stands. “It confirms what we knew about the President — that he and the people he surrounds himself with, like John Kelly, are willing to profit off the cruel detaining of immigrant children.”

Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., called Kelly “indecent” and “corrupt.”

The facility is undergoing a massive expansion and has added hundreds of beds in the past few weeks. About 2,500 children are detained there now, ages 13-17, after they crossed the U.S.-Mexico border without a parent or guardian. An executive order on ethics issued by President Donald Trump in 2017 doesn’t appear to prevent Kelly and other White House officials from joining boards, but it does ban lobbying activities.

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke defended his fellow Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg after the South Bend mayor was heckled during an event in Texas Friday.

Buttigieg, 37, spoke to a crowd at the Dallas County Johnson Jordan Dinner when protesters interrupted his speech, CBS-DFW reported. The protesters appeared to shout homophobic messages, the Texas Tribune reported. The mayor of South Bend, Ind., who is openly gay, responded to the hecklers saying, “I’m thinking of that scripture that says blessed and do not curse.”

“To that moment when I was packing my bags for Afghanistan for the purpose of defending that gentleman’s freedom of speech,” Buttigieg said. The mayor is an Afghanistan War veteran.

Former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank asserted that Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s sexual orientation is helping him in the polls among Democrats running for president, saying voters likely give Buttigieg credit for being open and honest about himself.

“His being gay is an advantage,” Frank, who became the first openly gay Congress member in 1987, told the Boston Globe on Friday.

Frank, 79, who represented Massachusetts in the House from 1981 to 2013 after serving as a state lawmaker, added that if Buttigieg were straight he didn’t think he would be doing as well.

It “gives people a chance to affirm their lack of prejudice,” he said.

Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., announced his 2020 presidential run last month and has quickly risen in the polls. Buttigieg got married last year and is the first openly gay U.S. presidential candidate.

“I think Beto O’Rourke may be regretting that he’s straight,” Frank told the Globe.
