Charles Payne calls out ‘irony’ of 2020 Dems’ racism claims: ‘They’re living examples of why their rhetoric is so wrong’

Fox Business host Charles Payne said Friday there is “irony” in the way 2020 Democratic presidential candidates talk about systemic racism in America, as many of them also call President Trump a racist.

Reacting on “Fox & Friends,” Payne said many of them “brag” about their families coming from humble beginnings or immigrating to America and claim the same opportunities no longer exist for minorities.

“They are themselves living examples of why their rhetoric is so is wrong. They have achieved the kind of success that they are telling the audience is unachievable because of the man in the White House,” said Payne, arguing that day-to-day issues of race, especially in inner cities, go far beyond Trump’s tweets and statements.

At Thursday’s debate, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said no one should get a “red badge of courage” for calling the president a racist. “Racism exists, the question isn’t who isn’t a racist, it’s who is and isn’t doing something about racism,” Booker said.

“We have a white supremacist in the White House,” said former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, calling Trump a “mortal threat to people of color.”

And Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., said nothing has gotten done in Washington, D.C. in the last two-and-a-half years because Trump has been “full-time trying to sow hate and division among us.”

Payne, however, insisted racism is a deeper issue. He pointed out that in New York City last year, under Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration, 89 percent of people arrested for marijuana crimes were black and Hispanic.

“In my own neighborhood, the progressives that have moved in call the cops on black kids playing basketball in the street,” Payne said. “That’s what I’m worried about! That’s the day-to-day racism that I care about. The rhetoric they’re talking is just designed to keep people afraid and it’s not helpful for this country,” he said.

He continued: “The way they portray this country every time they speak is like it’s a hopeless place, where there’s no opportunity for black people and Hispanics … They themselves on that stage put that to rest. There is hope. In fact, your parents can come here from one of these countries and you could be running for president.”

Tomi Lahren on Beto O’Rourke’s vow to take away guns: ‘Finally they’re being transparent’

Democrats’ push for stricter gun control measures are an effort to “chip away” gradually at the Second Amendment, Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren argued Friday on “Fox & Friends.”

Lahren was asked specifically about Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke declaring at Thursday night’s presidential debate, “Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15, AK-47.”

The line from the former congressman from Texas received loud applause from the audience at the third-round debate in Houston, as he proposed a mandatory buyback of assault weapons.

2020 DEMOCRATS RAMP UP CALLS FOR MANDATORY ASSAULT WEAPONS BUYBACK

“Finally they’re being transparent. We have been saying for years that they want to take our guns and it was always just, ‘Oh you stupid hillbillies, we don’t want to take your guns.’ And now they’re coming out and saying it proudly,” said Lahren, also pointing to statements from Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who vowed that gun control would have to be gradual and be accomplished through many pieces of legislation.

“What that really means is let’s gradually chip away at it, so people don’t realize their Second Amendment rights are being corroded and then it’ll lead to what we actually want, which is confiscation,” Lahren added.

KAMALA HARRIS COMPARES TRUMP TO ‘WIZARD OF OZ’ ON TRADE: ‘A REALLY SMALL DUDE

In the wake of multiple deadly mass shootings last month, including two in Texas, many of the candidates stepped up their calls for the federal government to start buying back assault-style weapons from owners – with some of the White House hopefuls urging mandatory buybacks.

O’Rourke was among the candidates to recently declare, “Americans who own AR-15s and AK-47s will have to sell their assault weapons.”

O’Rourke was complimented by his rivals on the debate stage for his outspoken efforts on the issue of gun violence. He suspended his campaign last month and returned to his home town of El Paso after a mass shooting there that left 22 people dead and many more injured.

O’Rourke has made stemming gun violence an integral part of his campaign.

Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan faced personal attacks from House Democrats at a congressional hearing Wednesday afternoon, and the hosts of “Fox & Friends” recapped the fiery clashes Thursday morning.

Homan, in a “Fox & Friends” appearance Wednesday before his testimony, vowed to push back strongly on Democrats’ “false narratives” about immigration enforcement.

The House Oversight Civil Rights and Civil Liberties subcommittee hearing was called to examine the Trump administration’s decision to stop considering requests from immigrants seeking to defer deportation for medical treatment and other hardships.

Homan was called “bigoted” during the hearing at one point by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.

TOM HOMAN SAYS HE WARNED FLORES AGREEMENT WOULD LEAD TO SURGE IN FAMILY UNITS AT BORDER

“I think it’s important to really make sure that the jingoistic, bigoted testimony of Mr. Homan is called out as nearly completely untrue, as being an outrage, and as a former official directing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, he should know better,” she said.

“What did I say was inaccurate?” Homan shot back, as Chairman Jamie Raskin, D-Md., intervened to restore order.

“I just think it’s important that it’s not accepted as accurate testimony,” she said. She went on to question other witnesses on the panel, but did not ask anything of Homan.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., told Homan he will be remembered as “ruthless and inhumane” toward asylum-seekers, while Homan also battled Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D.N.Y., and called on lawmakers to instead change the laws they don’t like that ICE and other agencies are enforcing.

Host Katie Pavlich said Democrats seem to have “forgotten conveniently” that Homan served in the Obama administration, and many of the problems at the border date back to 2014.

“Instead of coming back with some kind of argument, [Wasserman Schultz] just tried to move on and say his testimony should not be accepted,” she said.

Host Brian Kilmeade said Democrats are not used to someone pushing back with facts on their anti-Trump rhetoric about the border.

“Can you imagine someone sitting in front of you and saying ‘your bigoted policies’ and start ripping you apart and expect you to just turn your microphone off and move on? She called him a bigot!” he said.

Karl Rove emotionally recounts events of 9/11: ‘I’ll never forget’ meeting the Flight 93 families

Karl Rove gave an emotional recollection Wednesday on the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, specifically describing a meeting with the families of those who were killed on Flight 93.

“You can’t think about it without getting emotional,” Rove said on “Fox & Friends.”

“I particularly remember several weeks afterward, the families of the people who were on Flight 93 — the people who fought back — came to the White House. They knew that their loved ones had sacrificed themselves in order to keep that plane from flying in the Capitol or the White House. I’ll never forget meeting them,” he said.

Rove was serving as a senior adviser to President George W. Bush on the day of the attack. He said each September 11 he receives an email from former White House chief of staff Andy Card and his assistant calls him at 8:48 a.m., just as she did on that day.

Bush was reading to Florida schoolchildren when the planes struck the Twin Towers. Rove remembered informing the president of the first plane strike, while Card famously interrupted to whisper into Bush’s ear about the second strike after officials learned it was an attack on the country.

He remembered that Card briefly paused in the doorway before he left to tell the president what was happening.

“I didn’t know why until a couple of years ago … [Card] explained that when he got to the door, he realized he had to know exactly what he was gonna say to the president so the president wouldn’t ask any questions. He went in and said a second plane has flown into the World Trade Center, America is at war,” Rove explained.

Rove also spoke about America’s resilience after the tragic event.

“There were concerns that there would be attacks on American Muslims in retaliation for our country being attacked by Islamic extremists and that, by and large, didn’t happen.”

He went on to say, “We kept our focus as a country and our focus was to restore America’s confidence in itself and to live again as we normally would live, to live in freedom, and to take on the enemies of our country who struck us that day and we did.”

As House Democrats prepare to proceed with their legislative agenda, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said lawmakers should shift their focus from impeachment to investigating former FBI Director James Comey and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“When you’re solely focused on going after the president you can’t do what’s best for the country. And that’s been the problem with the Democrats,” Jordan said Monday on “Fox & Friends.”

“Jim Comey… is the guy solely responsible for putting the country through three years of this saga that we have now lived through,” he continued, arguing that many Americans want to know “when someone’s going to jail” over alleged wrongdoing in the Trump-Russia and Clinton email investigations.

Last month, a Justice Department inspector general report said that Comey violated FBI policy when he revealed information about discussions with President Trump to people outside the agency. Last year, the inspector general criticized Comey’s handling of the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private server for emails while she was secretary of state.

Jordan claimed much of the Democratic agenda has failed, including their questioning of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen and former special counsel Robert Mueller. He also said they should be more focused on shoring up the southern border and dealing with China’s intellectual property theft.

More from Media

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are looking to formally define what Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., has referred to as impeachment proceedings against President Trump. Democrats on the committee are planning on voting on how the investigation is defined, through a resolution that would set the boundaries of the probe, Politico reported.

“The Michael Cohen hearing didn’t work out the way they wanted. The John Dean hearing didn’t work out the way they wanted and of course, the Bob Mueller hearing and that investigation didn’t work out the way they wanted,” Jordan said earlier in the interview.

“But that doesn’t stop them. They’re going to continue to push this ridiculous impeachment narrative,” he added. “When they’re focused on this warrantless impeachment inquiry, you’re not getting done the things we need to be doing, like fixing the border situation — dealing with… the intellectual property theft of China. Things we’re supposed to deal with on the Judiciary Committeee”

Dan Bongino, Rahm Emanuel agree: 2020 Dems making big mistake going into general election

Fox News contributor Dan Bongino expressed agreement Monday on “Fox & Friends” with former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who warned 2020 Democratic presidential candidates against going too far left on health care and immigration.

Speaking on ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday, the former Obama White House chief of staff said that it’s “reckless” to support “Medicare-for-all” and also support giving health care to migrants who cross the border.

“We’ve taken a position so far, the candidates have … few have not, about basically ‘Medicare-for-all,’ which is we’re gonna eliminate 150 million people’s health care and we’re gonna provide health care for people that [have] just come over the border,” said Emanuel.

“That is an untenable position for the general election. … This is reckless. You don’t have to take the position to win the primary and you’re basically, literally hindering yourself for the general election.”

Bongino joked that he has almost never agreed with Emanuel, but the Democrats’ argument on health care goes against basic economics.

“The very bedrock of economics is the allocation of scarce resources. A doctor’s time and hospital beds are scarce resources. You can either price them or you can ration them,” he said.

Bongino said government-run health care can only lead to “rationing,” similar to other single-payer health care systems like the United Kingdom, and Americans will reject it.

“If you instill a rationing system, Rahm Emanuel is right, it will be economic and political suicide for the Democratic Party.”

Rudy Giuliani blasts Bill de Blasio’s tenure as NYC mayor: ‘It breaks my heart’

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani lashed out at the Big Apple’s current mayor, Bill de Blasio, Friday on “Fox & Friends,” saying it “breaks [his] heart” to see the direction of the city.

Giuliani took particular issue with rising homelessness in New York City, which reportedly reached a record earlier this year.

“Homelessness was gone and homelessness should be gone,” Giuliani said. “There’s a way to look at homelessness that these liberals just don’t get. When I see a city with homeless people, I see a city with a mayor who doesn’t give a damn about people, because if you give a damn about people, you don’t let them lay on the street.”

BIDEN DEFENDS SELF WHEN PRESSED BY COLBERT ABOUT GAFFES

Giuliani said during his administration police officers were directed to intervene and offer to bring people to homeless shelters.

He said he disagrees with his mayoral successor, Michael Bloomberg, on many political issues but credited him for turning over to de Blasio the “best-run city” in the country.

Host Brian Kilmeade asked Giuliani about de Blasio’s claim that he has improved the city since taking office in 2014.

“He must be smoking something,” Giuliani jokingly responded.

De Blasio appeared Thursday on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” where he was pressed by Carlson on his floundering presidential campaign, his push for gun control and much more.

He said he plans to stay in the 2020 Democratic presidential race, with the goal of making the October debate stage.

“I’ve said very clearly my goal is to get into those next debates — and that’s a month away until that cut-off period,” he said. “I’m going to put ideas out there that I think are going to be meaningful for people. Even a $1 donation helps me to get into the next debates.”

The New Yorker added that his experience running America’s largest city is good grounding for the skills needed to execute the office of the presidency.

He cited what he considered “real, serious foundational changes” in New York and likened his current role to that of a chief executive.

A recent New York Post article claimed de Blasio spent only seven hours at City Hall in the month of May, when he launched his presidential campaign.

AOC’s gun rights feud with GOP Rep. Crenshaw proves ‘fact-challenged’ in ‘Fox & Friends’ segment

The hosts of “Fox & Friends” recapped Thursday the Twitter feud over gun rights between Texas Republican Dan Crenshaw and New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Host Brian Kilmeade called Ocasio-Cortez’s argument about implementing universal background checks “fact-challenged” after she criticized people who share guns in other parts of the country.

The U.S. representatives’ war of words began when Crenshaw tweeted about a Houston-area woman who used a handgun to defend herself when five men tried to rob her.

CNN’S CLIMATE CORRESPONDENT SAYS NETWORK’S 7-HOUR CLIMATE CHANGE TOWN HALL ISN’T ENOUGH

“Situations like this story are why we protect the 2nd Amendment,’ Crenshaw tweeted.

He added: “Side note: With universal background checks, I wouldn’t be able to let my friends borrow my handgun when they travel alone like this. We would make felons out of people just for defending themselves.”

Ocasio-Cortez quickly replied, asking why he is “lending” people his guns and accusing the Texas lawmaker of giving firearms to people who have “likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record.”

Crenshaw then questioned why Ocasio-Cortez thinks his friends are domestic abusers and criminals, and argued that people loan one another guns for self-defense and hunting.

CNN ANALYST CLAIMS MELTING ICE CAPS WILL LEAVE US CITIES ‘ENGULFED IN FLOODS’

Crenshaw then took a shot at Ocasio-Cortez’s hometown, saying, “This is America outside NYC.” Ocasio-Cortez responded by noting that New York “is one of the safest states in the country when it comes to guns, incl rural areas.”

“Try to keep up,” she wrote.

Host Ainsley Earhardt said she grew up in South Carolina, where hunting is common, and people share guns and loan each other guns routinely.

“It doesn’t mean that they’re abusing their spouse at home, or are violent or have criminal records. AOC can say that, she lives in New York City, that’s fine, she can have her opinion.  But she’s not educated when it comes to what people are using their guns for in other parts of the country,” said Earhardt.

Kilmeade said Congress is set to debate the private sales of firearms that occur without background checks.

“You can have a healthy, good discussion, hear both sides. You don’t have to accuse someone of abusing their wife if they borrow someone’s gun,” said Earhardt.

On “The Ingraham Angle” Wednesday, gun rights advocate Colion Noir said many gun control supporters on the left speak from an “emotional place” about firearms due to a lack of knowledge or experience on the issue.

“The only thing they can go to is emotion,” said Noir.

California dive boat fire was ‘freak accident,’ underwater cinematographer says

An underwater cinematographer said on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday that a California boat fire that killed dozens of scuba diving enthusiasts would not dissuade him from traveling on the same type of boat.

“This was a terrible accident, but it was a freak accident. That’d be like saying if you knew someone in a car accident, you’d never drive in a car again,” said Jonathan Bird, who has traveled on many boats similar to the one involved in the Monday morning tragedy.

Santa Barbara County officials announced Tuesday that the search for survivors had been suspended; 34 people were presumed dead. The bodies of 20 people – 9 men and 11 women – were recovered, and divers found at least four others in the hollowed wreckage. The identification process will require DNA testing, investigators said.

A total of 39 people were aboard the Conception when it caught fire off the coast of Santa Cruz on the final day of the Labor Day weekend expedition.

25 BODIES FOUND AFTER CALIFORNIA SCUBA DIVING BOAT FIRE, COAST GUARD SAYS

The Conception’s captain, Jerry Boylan, made a mayday call to a Coast Guard dispatcher around 4 a.m. on Monday.

Ventura County firefighters were able to reach the burning vessel within 15 minutes but struggled to extinguish the scorching boat as it continued to erupt in flames. The boat’s owner, Truth Aquatics, did not respond to a request for comment.

Bird said there was no way the passengers who were trapped in the cabin below deck were locked in their rooms. He said there would typically be a staircase leading to the deck, as well as an escape hatch for the guests to leave their rooms.

“There isn’t even a door you could lock if you wanted to,” he said, emphasizing that boats are designed this way because guests would be less likely to become seasick below deck.

“These are how most live-aboard are built. The passengers, the ones who are paying money to be there, are put in the most comfortable place on the boat.”

Nationally syndicated radio host and former spokeswoman of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Dana Loesch called for “bipartisan solutions” to mass shootings following the “horrific” shooting in Odessa, Texas.

Loesch told “Fox & Friends” on Monday that “We have to figure out ways — have real, bipartisan discussions to figure out what’s going on here. We always keep looking at treating the symptoms, but what is the root of the problem?”

Loesch went on to praise the first responders to the mass shooting in Texas.

The random shooting rampage in Odessa and Midland this past Saturday killed seven people. Police said only that the gunman was a white man in his mid-30s.

TEXAS GUNMAN WAS FIRED FROM JOB HOURS BEFORE SHOOTING RAMPAGE: REPORT

The police reported seven dead and 22 hurt, with three police officers among the injured. The shooting started after a traffic stop, investigators said. Officers killed the gunman outside a movie theater in Odessa after a pursuit.

“There are so many things about this tragedy, about this individual, this murderer that we do not yet know,” Loesch said. “We’re not even quite sure exactly how he acquired his firearm.”

Loesch said that accounting for how the Texas shooter acquired the firearm would help create a solution.

“All of this is very important to know when we discuss solutions, or when we discuss when were the points of failure in a tragedy like this, so that they can be addressed.”

Loesch raised the importance of reporting cases of “ineligibility” to the National Instant Criminal Background System.

“We have the laws there. We need to properly enforce them and properly follow through,” Loesch said.
