A Colorado woman reportedly gave some porch pirates a taste of their own medicine this week by leaving trash-filled Amazon packages outside her front door.

Christine Hyatt told KKTV in Colorado Springs that thieves have stolen at least 20 packages from her porch and last Wednesday was the third time she was able to dupe the criminals into removing her garbage for free.

“We forgot to set our trash out for Thanksgiving, so we were overflowing with trash,” she told the station. “I’ve had packages stolen and I went, ‘You know what? I have extra boxes — let’s see if someone will take our trash!'”

Hyatt said the thefts are more than just inconvenient. Among the items that have been stolen was her daughter’s diabetes medication.

“She can’t afford to have her own medication stolen just because people are jerks,” Hyatt said. “This is my way of fighting back.”

In her next package, Hyatt plans to include cigarette butts, kitty litter and fast-food wrappers, KKTV reported.

A Los Angeles Police Department officer was arrested and charged Thursday following an investigation into allegations that he fondled a dead woman’s breasts while responding to an overdose call in October.

The alleged incident was reportedly captured on the officer’s body camera.

Officer David Rojas, 27, was charged with a felony violation of state safety codes, which prohibit “having sexual contact with human remains without authority,” according to a statement from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

The LAPD Internal Affairs Division arrested Rojas on Thursday then released him on a $20,000 bond, The Associated Press reported, citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate locator website. He could face up to three years in state prison if convicted.

NEW YORK TROOPER KILLS MAN WHO STRUCK HIM IN THE HEAD WITH HATCHET, STATE POLICE SAY

The Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union that usually provides legal counsel for the LAPD’s 10,000 members, released a statement saying it would not defend Rojas in any criminal proceedings.

“We hope that District Attorney Jackie Lacey charging Mr. Rojas for his vile alleged crime will bring some solace to the deceased woman’s family during their time of grieving,” the union’s board said in a statement. “His alleged behavior is abhorrent and an affront to every law enforcement professional working for the LAPD.”

“This incident is extremely disturbing and does not represent the values of the Los Angeles Police Department,” LAPD Chief Michel Moore also said, according to FOX 11 Los Angeles.

“This incident is extremely disturbing and does not represent the values of the Los Angeles Police Department.”

Rojas and his partner had responded to a report of a possible dead woman in a residential unit on Oct. 20. After the officers determined the woman had died, the partner returned to the patrol car to retrieve something, the Los Angeles Times first reported. At that point, Rojas allegedly deactivated his body camera and fondled the dead woman before later reactivating the camera. It was unclear how long the officer was left alone.

The incident was captured on video — even though the officer deactivated his camera — because of a two-minute buffer on the device, according to the Times. LAPD officer body cameras automatically save video and audio for two minutes after the device is initially deactivated.

Police officials conducting a random inspection of the officer’s body camera videos found the incriminating footage, according to a person briefed on the incident. The person wasn’t authorized to publicly discuss the case and spoke to The Associated Press last week on condition of anonymity.

The LAPD is also reportedly investigating Rojas’ work history. The four-year veteran cop was placed on leave and stripped of his police powers last week during an internal investigation of the incident. He had been assigned to downtown’s Central Division.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Florida dad with accidental shooting conviction is charged in accidental shooting of daughter, 9: police

A Florida dad who was convicted of accidentally firing a gun that killed a teenage girl is now charged in a second accidental shooting that critically wounded his 9-year-old daughter, police said.

Dustin Adkins, 34, is a convicted felon who is currently on probation for accidentally discharging a gun that went through a wall and killed a 13-year-old girl in December 2011, according to police.

Adkins was arrested Saturday and held without bail at the Brevard County Jail Complex, Florida Today reported. He is facing child neglect and felony weapons charges in connection with a shooting over the weekend that left his daughter in critical but stable condition, police said.

The terms of the case prohibited him from possessing guns, Orlando’s Fox 35 reported. But on Saturday, Adkins allegedly brought four children — including his daughter — into a wooded area in Titusville and let them play with four firearms, the report said.

Police say Adkins left the children unsupervised while he checked on a hog trap. When he returned, one of the children had accidentally shot his daughter, according to police.

Rather than calling 911, which could’ve sent an ambulance or advised him to go to a nearby fire station, Adkins transported the 9-year-old himself to a hospital on the other side of the city, Titusville Police Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson said.

“This is completely outrageous to all of us,” Hutchinson said. “When I explained the facts to other members of the command staff, they had me repeat myself several times because they couldn’t believe the facts were correct.”

The firearms were hidden in the brush, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear who they were registered to.

“On a personal note, we are all extremely hopeful that the criminal justice system will keep this man away from guns and kids in the future until he pays the price,” Hutchinson added.

Barnard College students ‘apprehensive,’ ‘shaken up’ after freshman, 18, stabbed to death nearby

NEW YORK CITY — Students at New York City’s Barnard College told Fox News they are “apprehensive” and the community is “pretty shaken up” Thursday after an 18-year-old freshman was stabbed to death Wednesday night at a nearby park.

Tessa Majors, a Barnard student, was discovered unconscious with “multiple stab wounds about the body” near a staircase in Manhattan’s Morningside Park around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, police say. The president of the all-women school says she “was fatally injured during an armed robbery” attempt and investigators are now reportedly questioning two persons of interest in the case.

“It just makes me think about myself and what that means for me in the city because I love going out in the city and exploring and now I just feel more apprehensive towards doing that,” Natasha, a freshman biochemistry major, told Fox News outside one of the college’s entrances Thursday.

“I actually walked through the park that morning,” she added. “I walked up those stairs.”

Another Barnard student, who identified herself as Olivia, a political science major, said the mood there last night was “just kind of scary, because everyone was spread out around the entire campus and you don’t really want to walk anywhere anymore.”

The school Thursday positioned more security officers than normal next to its entrances, according to Malia, a sophomore biology major who described its tight-knit community of students as feeling “pretty shaken up.” Some professors, she said, have announced postponements of upcoming exams in the wake of the stabbing.

“It’s horrible. We are all really saddened,” added another student.

“I did not know Tessa but I do remember having a meal with her during orientation and meeting her, and being like ‘oh my gosh, she’s so cool’” Natasha told Fox News. “Because everyone knows everyone – it’s such a small campus.”

Earlier this morning, investigative teams were observed combing the area of the park where the stabbing occurred. At one point, a detective leaned down and placed a small red cone behind a lamppost.

Watching the police activity unfold from above was Jake, a student at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, who told Fox News that officers blocked him from entering the other side of the park after the stabbing last night.

“Two cop cars came up next to me and I was like ‘oh, can I go up the stairs’ and they said ‘no’,” he said. “They had just like swarmed around me … they were like ‘no, you can’t go up there, get out of the park right now.’”

Jake said he then took an alternate route around the park and talked to some officers on the other side who apparently were looking at evidence.

“It was just surreal to see this cracked phone with blood all over it,” he said.

An employee at Columbia University, which is the closer of the two institutions next to Morningside Park, described it as “a place where students, staff and faculty are either passing through or enjoying a nice outdoor lunch.”

“There’s definitely a feeling of sadness and concern going around,” he told Fox News in an e-mail. “To hear about this happening so close to campus is devastating.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio, following the stabbing, tweeted Thursday that the NYPD will increase their presence in the area to “keep this community safe, arrest the perpetrators and ensure NOTHING like this can happen again.

“We’ve lost a young woman full of potential in a senseless act of violence,” he said. “I want every student and every member of faculty to know your city will be with you in the days ahead.”

Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison told the New York Daily News that police are currently questioning two teenagers with their parents, in relation to the stabbing.

Police sources told the New York Post that the investigation is focusing on whether the attack is linked to past robbery patterns in the area and the August mugging of a 24-year-old man inside the park.

“They tell us very explicitly at orientation not to walk through the park” at night, Jake told Fox News, adding that he has ignored the warning in the past.

“But I’m not going to do that now.”

Baltimore defendant throws metal water pitcher, strikes judge in head after receiving life term: reports

A judge in Baltimore required medical treatment Wednesday after a defendant she had just sentenced to life in prison grabbed a metal water pitcher and threw it, striking the judge in her forehead, according to reports.

Chief Baltimore Circuit Judge Wanda Keyes Heard didn’t lose consciousness but required unspecified medical attention, the Baltimore Sun reported. Details on her medical condition were not available.

The defendant, Travis Burroughs, 36, had just received a sentence of life behind bars, with all but 70 years suspended, following his conviction in November on sodomy and false imprisonment charges, according to the Sun.

BALTIMORE CORRECTIONS OFFICERS INDICTED, ACCUSED OF EXCESSIVE FORCE AND GANG ACTIVITY, STATE’S ATTORNEY SAYS

He was immediately taken to be additionally charged with assault in connection with the pitcher incident, authorities said.

“We are the enforcement arm of the court, and we will not allow anyone to assault or intimidate any of the judiciary officers here,” Maj. Sabrina Tapp-Harper, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore Sheriff’s Office, told the Sun. “We take this matter tremendously seriously. We will protect this court house and all of the individuals herein.”

Burroughs had been convicted and sentenced last year on second-degree rape, assault and false imprisonment, the newspaper reported.

Travis Burroughs, 36, was sentenced Wednesday to life behind bars, with all but 70 years suspended, following his conviction in November on sodomy and false imprisonment charges, authorities say.

The attorney representing Burroughs could not be reached for comment, the Sun reported.

Tapp-Harper said a sheriff’s deputy and a corrections officer were in the courtroom at the time of the incident and quickly subdued the defendant. She added that the sheriff’s office would be reviewing the case to determine what changes, if any, would be needed in its security procedures to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.

“After every incident, we always critique the matter to see what we can do better,” she told the Sun.

Burroughs is expected to return to court in January in connection with allegations that he assaulted a corrections employee last May, Baltimore’s WBAL-TV reported.

BELFAST, MAINE (AP) – Maine state prosecutors played police recordings of a mother admitting to severely beating her 10-year-old daughter during a murder trial in the child’s death.

Jurors in Belfast on Tuesday heard Sharon Carrillo admit in a police interview to abusing her daughter, Marissa Kennedy, who was found beaten to death at a home in 2018 in Stockton Springs, The Portland Press Herald reported.

Sharon Carrillo faces 25 years to life in prison on a charge of depraved indifference murder. The girl’s stepfather, Julio Carrillo, was sentenced to 55 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the same case.

MAINE MAN ACCUSED OF TURNING METHODIST CHURCH’S PLAYROOM INTO METH LAB

In the recordings, Sharon Carrillo is heard telling detectives that Marissa’s punishments grew more severe because she continued to act out. She said she would strike her daughter with a belt repeatedly, and her husband hit Marissa with a mop handle so hard that it broke.

The couple didn’t seek medical help until Marissa’s nose and mouth started bleeding, Sharon Carrillo said. The mother also described how she and her husband planned to say Marissa had harmed herself while she was alone in the basement the night before she died.

On the recording, Sharon Carrillo sometimes appears calm and sometimes can be heard sobbing.

MAINE SEES FIRST FLU DEATH OF SEASON, STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY

“She didn’t deserve to get beaten to death,” Sharon Carrillo said at one point.

The defense contends Sharon Carrillo gave a false confession because both she and her daughter were victims of abuse at the hands of Julio Carrillo. Her lawyers claim Julio Carrillo was solely responsible for the girl’s death.

But prosecutors say she is just as guilty as her estranged husband.

The state medical examiner’s office concluded the girl was a victim of battered child syndrome.

Before the trial began, Sharon Carrillo’s attorney sought to have her declared incompetent, but the judge ruled her competent enough to stand trial.

A Barnard College student was discovered brutally stabbed after a robbery gone horribly awry inside a park in upper Manhattan on Wednesday, sources said.

Tessa Majors, 18, was found by a school security guard inside Morningside Park near West 116th Street and Morningside Drive at around 5:30 p.m., according to police sources.

BOY, 2, STRUCK AND KILLED BY NYC TRAIN

Sources said that the woman was beaten and stabbed by a group 3 or 4 men at the bottom of the stairs on a landing.

“We mourn this devastating murder of an extraordinary young woman and member of our community,” Barnard president Sian Leah Beilock said in a statement Wednesday night. “Tessa was just beginning her journey at Barnard and in life.”

A trail of blood was found in the park as Majors apparently tried to make her way back up the stairs towards Morningside Ave after the brutal encounter, sources said.

Preliminary information suggested that Majors was stabbed several times in face, neck, and under her arm after she put up a fight when the men tried to rob her, sources added.

Majors was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, where she died.

North Carolina deputies find $3M in pork barrels possibly bound for Mexico

Authorities in North Carolina discovered $3 million in suspected drug money possibly being hauled to Mexico in containers filled with raw pork shoulders over the weekend.

A deputy with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office stopped the driver of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 on Saturday for failing to stay in the lane and impeding traffic.

A K-9 alerted deputies to the trailer, the sheriff’s office said. A search of the vehicle revealed the cash wrapped in plastic inside large barrels.

Authorities suspect the money was obtained from drug sales in the region and headed to Mexico, Sheriff Alan Norman said.
