Jerry Falwell asks FBI to investigate alleged ‘criminal conspiracy’ against him by former Liberty U officials

Liberty University President  Jerry Falwell Jr. said he’s asked the FBI to investigate a “criminal conspiracy” against him that he alleges has been orchestrated by disgruntled former board members and employees of the evangelical Christian college.

Falwell said Tuesday he has evidence the former members shared emails belonging to the Lynchburg, Va.university with reporters in an attempt to damage his reputation.

“Our attorneys have determined that this small group of former board members and employees, they’re involved in a criminal conspiracy, are working together to steal Liberty property in the form of emails and provided them to reporters,” Falwell told The Hill.

The accusations come after Politico published a story Monday, citing unnamed sources only described as current or former officials or associates of Falwell, alleging the university president “presides over a culture of self-dealing” that has inappropriately benefited him and his family.

Falwell, one of President Trump’s earliest and staunchest supporters, has also come under increased scrutiny recently over his personal life and business investments, including his involvement in a Miami hostel.

Falwell claimed the emails were leaked as part of an “attempted coup” to oust him as school president, in part because of his support for Trump and the school’s financial stress following the death of his father — Rev. Jerry Falwell, the evangelist who founded Liberty and served as Moral Majority leader before dying in 2007 — as “leverage to take over.”

Speaking to the Associated Press, Falwell said he’s “not going to dignify the lies that were reported yesterday with a response, but I am going to the authorities and I am going to civil court.” He referred to the reporter who wrote the story as a “little boy.”

Falwell added Liberty University has hired “the meanest lawyer in New York,” whom he declined to identify, to pursue civil cases. Falwell also declined to identify the people he said were spreading the emails.

“Liberty owns every single one of those emails. It’s our property. They were working for us when they used our server,” he told the AP. “Our policies make it clear every email sent on our server is owned by Liberty and if anybody shares it with anybody outside Liberty, it is theft. And so that’s the underlying crime.”

Liberty was founded in 1971 with just 154 students, but now boasts an enrollment of more than 100,000, including those in its massive online education program. It has become an influential hub of conservative politics, frequented by candidates courting evangelical voters.

Brazen armed bank robbery on high-end Santa Monica street, suspect on loose

LOS ANGELES — A masked suspect armed with a long-barreled weapon robbed a bank in Santa Monica, Calif., on Tuesday and took off with as much as $5,000 before police could catch him.

The incident occurred inside a Wells Fargo Bank on Montana Avenue at 9: 51 a.m. The street is known for its posh stores and is frequented by celebrities.

The suspect — who was last seen jumping a wall in the rear of the bank — was dressed in layers of clothing and gloves, police said.

The robber entered the bank brandishing the firearm while wearing a “Day of the Dead” type mask. He approached a worker, demanded money and fled. There were no injuries but nearby schools were placed on a brief lockdown.

Geraldo Rivera: NRA and San Francisco board ‘both in the distraction business’

Westlake Legal Group Geranldo-Hannity_FOX Geraldo Rivera: NRA and San Francisco board 'both in the distraction business' fox-news/us/crime fox-news/travel/vacation-destinations/san-francisco fox-news/shows/hannity fox-news/politics/state-and-local fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc Charles Creitz b3c133a4-16ed-5a8a-8b9f-a143fd571fda article

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the National Rifle Association are both in the “distraction business,” according to Geraldo Rivera.

The board recently declared the NRA a domestic terrorist organization in a move that Rivera asserted was an effort to draw attention away from the city’s problems with homelessness and drugs. The NRA responded by suing the governing body to distract from the gun violence epidemic, Rivera claimed Tuesday on “Hannity.

“The NRA and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors are tailor-made for each other,” he said.

NRA SUES SAN FRANCISCO OVER ‘DOMESTIC TERRORIST ORGANIZATION’ DESIGNATION

“They are both in the distraction business. The Board of Supervisors … declares them domestic terrorists to distract us from this awful epidemic of homelessness and urban anarchy.

“The NRA is suing San Francisco and the Board of Supervisors to distract from the undeniable epidemic of gun violence.”

In addition, Rivera pointed to the fact the suit will be heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, an often reliably liberal San Francisco-based bench, he said.

“How much of a chance do you think that lawsuit has in the liberals’ favorite federal circuit?” the Fox News correspondent-at-large asked. “It won’t even survive a motion for summary judgment.”

In response, former NYPD officer and ex-Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino rebuffed Rivera’s claim.

“San Francisco just declared a group of law-abiding gun owners and an organization that defends the Second Amendment in our Bill of Rights [a terrorist organization] and you’re saying this is a distraction for them defending themselves?” he asked.

Rivera added President Trump is right to criticize the issues that are prevalent in cities like San Francisco, and the “failure of the local Democratic regimes,” but added the federal government and local boards are working together.

Texas executes inmate in 2010 murder of elderly woman during crime spree

A Texas man was executed Tuesday evening for killing a 61-year-old grandmother a decade ago during an eight-day crime spree that included another murder.

Mark Anthony Soliz, 37, died by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. He was the sixth inmate executed in Texas this year. Nine more are scheduled.

Soliz was convicted in the June 2010 killing of Nancy Weatherly in her home in Godley. Appeals to stop the execution were turned down at the state and federal levels. The most recent denial came Monday from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

TEXAS INMATE EXECUTED FOR KILLING MOTHER, 89, DAUGHTER, 71, IN 2003TEXAS INMATE EXECUTED FOR KILLING MOTHER, 89, DAUGHTER, 71, IN 2003

“I have represented Mr. Soliz for many years. Every legal tool in my kit was deployed to prevent this execution. The hope endures, the fight goes on, and the cause never dies,” Seth Kretzer, one of Soliz’s appellate attorneys, said in a statement.

At his 2012 trial, prosecutors said Soliz and another man, Jose Ramos, committed 13 crimes over the course of eight days in June 2010. They fatally shot Ruben Martinez, a deliveryman, on June 29, 2010, and drove to Weatherly’s home in a stolen car, they said.

The duo ransacked the home and shot her in the back of the head after she pleaded with them to leave her dead mother’s jewelry box and spare her life, according to authorities.

A friend of Soliz testified that he bragged about the killing and made fun of Weatherly’s “country” accent. He eventually confessed to the killing. Ballistic and fingerprint evidence tied him to the crime, police said.

Ramos was sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of Weatherly and Martinez.

Soliz’s lawyers argued at trial that he suffered from brain damage stemming from fetal alcohol spectrum disorder because his mom drank while pregnant. His attorneys said the disorder is the “functional equivalent” of conditions already recognized by the U.S. Supreme Court as disqualifying exemptions to the death penalty, such as intellectual disability.

Kretzer said Soliz’s IQ of 75 is considered borderline impaired and that he was intellectually disabled.

Arizona trooper arrested on sex-related, kidnapping and fraud charges: police

An Arizona state trooper was arrested Tuesday and charged with 61 counts — ranging from alleged sexual abuse and extortion to kidnapping and fraud — after his department said he was using his position to trade “leniency for favor.”

Tremaine Jackson, 43, worked for the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) for 13 years and was assigned to the department’s Metro Motors District when authorities say they started receiving calls from women alleging that he’d made inappropriate comments and sexually abused them while on the job.

Former trooper Tremaine Jackson, 43, was arrested and charged with 61 counts ranging from sexual abuse, sexual extortion, kidnapping, harassment and fraud.

Col. Frank Milstead, director of AZDPS, said at a press conference Tuesday that on May 19, the department received its first complaint from a female motorist. who said Jackson made inappropriate comments to her during a traffic stop.

While investigating that complaint, police received a second complaint that alleged Jackson made inappropriate comments and engaged in “criminal behavior to the extent of sexual abuse,” Milstead said. Jackson was put on administrative leave.

As the AZDPS’s special investigation unit began to further probe Jackson’s behavior while on duty, it contacted several women who had been stopped or cited by him dating back to Oct. 29, 2018, when police believe the first account of inappropriate and unlawful contact occurred.

Milstead said the investigation revealed at least eight women were alleged to have been harassed or sexually abused by Jackson while he was in uniform and in a marked or unmarked Arizona Department trooper car. Further, Milstead said, “we believe this may not be all of our victims.”

“I implore anyone who has contact with Trooper Jackson, who may have been affected by contact with him, who may have been victimized, either through commentary or through physical action by Trooper Jackson to please come forward,” Milstead said.

Jackson will be booked at the Maricopa County Jail on Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to 13 charges of sexual abuse, Jackson also faces eight counts of forgery, a dozen counts of fraudulent schemes and eight counts of tampering with a public record for allegedly falsifying department worksheets or citations, Milstead said.

He also faces eight counts of unlawful imprisonment and eight counts of kidnapping for “keeping people an inordinate amount of time and not allowing them … to leave when they were not under arrest.”

Milstead said Jackson used his positional authority to extort sexual favor from women and called the allegations “horrifying.”

Illinois police seek Walter White look-alike on probation violation

Police in Illinois are looking for a man who bears a startling resemblance to “Breaking Bad” protagonist Walter White — and is wanted for a probation violation related to methamphetamine possession, according to a local report.

The Galesburg Police Department in Illinois regularly posts mugshots of wanted people to its Facebook page, but the post for Sept. 3, which featured 50-year-old Todd Barrick Jr., got extra attention. Barrick’s mugshot shows him sporting glasses and a goatee, similar to the character played by Bryan Cranston on the AMC series. Barrick is also the same age as the Walter White character when the series begins.

“Heisenberg lives!” one Facebook user commented under the police department’s post, referring to an alias used by White on the show.

Oregon ‘monster’ sentenced to 270 years for sexual abuse, torture of three young sisters

After nearly a decade of delays, an Oregon man described as a “monster” and called the “worst of the worst” was sentenced Monday to 270 years in prison for the rape, sexual abuse, and torture of three young sisters he often offered to babysit.

Andrew Kowalczyk, 44, was also sentenced to a life term of supervised release after years of litigation and attempts to obstruct justice, including soliciting the murder of an assistant U.S. attorney.

Kowalczyk, who at 480 pounds was sitting in a wheelchair by the defense table, stuck his middle finger up at the judge and yelled, “You’re a corrupt piece of sh*t,” before being led out of the courtroom by four deputy U.S. marshals.

“It turns out that Andrew was actually a monster,” one of the victims, now 23 years old, told U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman at the sentencing hearing. “I know now that he was doing something to my sisters and I so that he could rape and molest us.”

OREGON MAN ARRESTED IN 1978 COLD-CASE MURDER OF ALASKA TEEN, AUTHORITIES SAY

The mother of the victims testified that Kowalczyk bought her girls, then 8 and 2-year-old twins, toys, clothing, diapers, shoes and even a birthday cake with their names on it. He also paid for their Portland, Ore., hotel rooms and would regularly babysit the children while the mother looked for work, according to court documents.

“In terms of the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, this defendant is the worst this courthouse has ever seen,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin. “(Kowalczyk) showed no remorse. He will always be a predatory sex offender as long as he lives.”

“It turns out that Andrew was actually a monster.”

— Kowalczyk’s victim

Kowalczyk was arrested on unrelated charges in Puyallup, Washington, on Dec. 27, 2007. He was pulled over by police in Des Moines, Washington, and refused to step out of his vehicle.

Police said Kowalczyk didn’t own the car he was driving, didn’t have a driver’s license and gave officers a fake name. The incident led to a high-speed car chase that police suspended for public safety reasons. However, Kowalczyk was arrested a day later at the Northwest Motor Inn in Puyallup trying to leave in a cab.

It was then that authorities seized the bags he was carrying. They found his cameras and a hard drive that contained 650 child pornography images and videos. Several files showed him sexually abusing two very young children and metadata embedded in some of the digital images revealed they were taken using the camera found in Kowalczyk’s luggage.

Puyallup police published some of the non-pornographic images to help locate victims.

In February 2008, a federal grand jury charged Kowalczyk with a single count of sexual exploitation of a child. In March that year, investigators carried out a search warrant of a storage locker Kowalczky rented and found a sofa, mirror and several shirts that were seen in the pornographic images found on his devices. A superseding indictment with eight additional counts of sexual exploitation of children was returned on March 21, 2012.

Since he was first indicted, Kowalczyk has tried to delay his trial by replacing his counsel more than a dozen times. He’s also filed motions to suppress evidence and even attempted to obstruct justice while he was behind bars by asking his father to retrieve other incriminating evidence found on hard drives before they could be seized by authorities. He also solicited the murder of an assistant U.S. attorney, according to authorities.

“Andrew Kowalczyk’s abuse and torture of his victims was unthinkable and will forever impact their lives,” said Billy Williams, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon. “Kowalczyk tried every conceivable tactic to delay prosecution and rob his young victims of the justice they deserve. Today, his attempts to delay punishment for his horrific crimes have ended.”

Judge orders resentencing for Rand Paul neighbor after ruling 30 days too lenient

Westlake Legal Group AP19239595054666-1 Judge orders resentencing for Rand Paul neighbor after ruling 30 days too lenient Louis Casiano fox-news/us/crime fox-news/politics fox-news/person/rand-paul fox news fnc/us fnc e472a7c3-5f0f-5f15-bc29-a070a51e7e49 article

A federal appeals court judge on Monday ordered the resentencing of the neighbor who assaulted Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., in 2017 after ruling the original 30-day sentence was too lenient.

Sixth Circuit Court Judge Jane Stranch said the lower court that imposed the sentence after Rene Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting the lawmaker had no compelling justification for sentencing him below federal guidelines, The Hill reported.

SEN. RAND PAUL TO UNDERGO HERNIA SURGERY IN CANADA AFTER ATTACK BY NEIGHBOR

“Federal defendants with a criminal history category of I who were convicted of assault received an average sentence of 26 months’ imprisonment and a median sentence of 21 months,” the 16-page ruling states, citing data. “We therefore VACATE Boucher’s sentence and REMAND for resentencing.”

In making her ruling, Stranch cited other 30-day prison sentences for those found guilty of assaulting members of Congress, including two defendants in 1981 who threw eggs at a congressman. They missed.

Another defendant was given 15 days after spitting on a senator at an airport, according to The Hill.

“These prison terms were similar to Boucher’s, but the offense conduct  was  quite  different – as the Government argues, ‘it is difficult to understand why a tackle resulting in long-term serious injuries warrants the same sentence as an egg toss or spit in the face,’” the ruling states.

Paul had part of his lung removed and suffered several broken bones as a result of the assault. The incident occurred in November 2017 when he was tackled from behind while mowing his lawn.

Boucher, a retired anesthesiologist, said the attack was sparked because he was agitated about piles of brush on Paul’s property. He also said Paul used his lawnmower to blow leaves onto his property.

Paul told Fox News in 2018 there was no longstanding dispute with Boucher.

A 23-year-old New Jersey woman was arrested Friday at a hotel after allegedly stabbing her mom to death inside their apartment earlier that morning, authorities said.

Marisa Rivera is accused of killing her 56-year-old mother, Denise DeNapoli, around 3:30 a.m. at the Mount Laurel apartment where both lived, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
